In real life monsters, chapter 2 is up!
Tumblr media
Sansa slowly sinks in the chair and sighs; the world itself seems to crumble around her, but she has no time to crumble after it, she needs to stand strong and ensure that her family is kept safe from the rubbish.
Under the cut a small edit with the song which inspired me!
“They don’t call me the Carrion for nothing, love”

Someone on twitter found this old tweet from 6th August (before the airing of the show) and it's about leaks running around reddit that were took down. All the points written by the original Reddit Leaker happened in the show.
Now, I wasn't around in the fandom when this happened so I can't verify the event, but if all of this is true the second paragraph sounds very encouraging (brilliant!) for us Helaemond.
Many other Helaemond shippers had already drawn the parallel between Naerys/Aemon/Aegon IV and Helaena/Aemond/Aegon II situation and I think it's incredibly positive for us.
Now, we should pray that HBO will pull through and actually go for it at full force in next season. 🙏

“I heard you are to leave on the morrow,” Aemond says. “It would be a shame if we are unable to settle our grievances, do you not agree, nephew?”
With amused interest, Aemond watches as the Velaryon Prince attempts to steel his resolve.
“If that is what you desire, then I would not deny you, Uncle,” Lucerys says, trying to embody the negotiator he’s witnessed in his mother on countless occasions, and stay his rabbit heart. “At sunrise we can—“
“You think me a fool?” Aemond interrupts. “You would sooner tuck your tail and hide beneath your mother’s skirts. No. It’s here and now, little nephew.”

Sneak peek of next chapter, Aemond POV

Tumblr media
If we run everytime the day darkens, the darkness will keep chasing us for ever, had been her reply. If we face it, at least we’ve faced it. — from next chapter.
Alternatively called, Targaryens second born boys wanna take their Sansa and fly away to keep her safe, and she stands her ground, reminds them of their duties by upholding hers. Such an inspiration for those around her, no wonder she ended up acclaimed queen in the north.

Daella squinted as the light peering in from outside hit her face, awoken by the sounds of grumbling dragons. She felt a body shift beside her as she realized she was trapped in the embrace of Aemond Targaryen, and to her right was Jacaerys Valeryon sleeping peacefully. She sighed as she realized what she had done. "How did I get here?" she thought, combing through her memories.
It was a quiet day in the Vale with no real issues aside from petty squabbles of livestock. Daella had been sent by her aunt, Lady Arryn, to handle these minor issues, much to Daella's protest. Ultimately, Daella would always please her Lady aunt; she was the closest thing she had to a mother after her own passed away and her father abandoned her. Although Daella was born in a marriage, her father regarded her as a bastard. She was always making sure to ignore her exitance in favor of his silver-haired children.
For this reason, Daella made it her life purpose to make herself deadly. She promised never to marry and become the most fearsome warrior in the Vale. And Daella was precisely that. The only thing that could make her the ultimate killer would be a dragon, and her lady aunt was more than grateful that Daemon never returned to claim the girl or bring her a dragon egg.
But Daella and her lady aunt could not be prepared to watch two dragons enter the Vale. Daella raced to catch up with the beast in the sky, abandoning all duties. Her dark hair was wild in the wind as her ties came undone, allowing the silver highlights to shine through.
As she made her way to Runestone, she watched the first rider land. Her aunt, Lady Arryn, made her way outside and beckoned Daella to her. The young woman dismounted her horse, passing it off to a stable hand. "Oh, Daella, what am I going to do with you." her aunt frowned, eyeing her disheveled appearance. "I believe my appearance is the least of our worries, aunt. If there are dragons in the Vale," she glared for a second. A much more giant dragon landed, dismounting down with much ease.
"Prince Jacearys Valeryon," her aunt spoke as the first rider approached her, removing his gloves and extending a slight bow to her aunt. "Lady Arryn, I have come to ask your support of my mother's claim." Daella and her aunt looked confused at one another; your house had already pled fealty for Rhaenyra many years ago.  "The false queen," another voice chuckled. "King Aegon resides on the throne," he growled.
Her aunt frowned. "Prince Aemond, it is a pleasure that you have finally made your way to the Vale. It seems that you both seek the support of House Arryn and the noble houses of the Vale." she shook her head. "I will invite you both to stay; the weather is turning; we must discuss much. News reaches the Vale ever so slowly," she said ever the diplomat. The two princes nodded, following behind her aunt, the distrust of one another thick in the air.
Tumblr media
Later that evening, Lady Arryn decided a feast would be most appropriate for welcoming the princes to the Vale for the first time.
Daella shifted uncomfortably in her dark blue dress, her chestnut and silver hair adorned with silver stars and moons. "You look beautiful, my lady," a maid remarked as she adjusted her cuff. "I don't feel beautiful; I feel uncomfortable," Daella grumbled.
A soft knock on her door alerted her maids, "My lady, the prince is here to escort you."
She raised a brow. "The prince? Which one?" she questioned her maid
"Both of them," the maid answered, a blush creeping on her cheeks.
Daella scowled, "Shut the door; the princes can wait." She shouted loud enough for them to hear as the maid shut the heavy door on them, leaving both princes stunned by her boldness.
"Escorting me." she huffed. "Who do they think they are coming to escort me." As she approached the door, she could hear them both arguing.
"There is no need to be upset; I'm sure she knows you're a STRONG prince." She could hear Aemonds voice tease Jacearys. Her eyes widened. She knew of the rumors of his parentage.
However, she had never believed that his family would be so bold as to mock him.
She threw her doors open, interrupting the constant mocking. "I will be escorting myself," Daella said matter of factly, pushing past the two.
Walking down the hall, she heard their footsteps behind her.
"Please, my lady," Jacearys pleaded. "Lady Arryn has requested that we accompany you, and we don't wish to upset her."
Daella turned, narrowing her eyes at Jacearys. "You do not wish to upset my lady aunt, or WE do not wish to upset her?" Jacearys shifted uncomfortably under her gaze while Aemond stared on smugly. "Because truthfully, I don't quite care about my lady aunts' opinions this evening." She whispered loud enough for both princes to hear before turning down the corridor, leaving a dumbfounded Jacearys and a very intrigued Aemond.
"Perhaps whoever secures the vale might secure more than they bargained for." He thought to himself.
Tumblr media
The feast had already begun in the great hall, and the noise of the bards and revelry were celebrating the visit of the two young princes, ignoring the grim circumstances that led them to the Vale in the first place.
As Daella entered, a hush fell over the room. The men of the high houses, ogling her youth and beauty, examined her like a prize for their unmarried sons or even themselves.
Her Lady Aunt stood. "My beautiful niece Daella, how pleasant of you to join us." She spoke softly, but Daella could see the disappointment in her eyes as she noticed the lack of princes at her side.
Her face soon turned to concern as she looked up to see that Prince Aemond was walking to stand beside her niece.
Prince Aemond reminded Lady Arryn of someone—Daemon, a man she hoped would never return to Daella's life, especially after her mother's death. If this prince inherited any of Daemon's traits, as she feared, it would only spell destruction and heartbreak for her dear niece.
As he opened his mouth to speak, Jacearys cut him off. "Lady Arryn, Lady Daella, if you would do me the kindness of granting me the first dance of the evening."
Daella groaned internally as her aunt accepted the invitation on her behalf. A sense of uncertainty loomed as she took his hand.
Meanwhile, Jacearys stared down Aemond smugly as he led her away.
"You seem incredibly close with your Lady Aunt," he questioned as they danced, hoping to learn something from her to use to his advantage.
"She's raised me since I was a babe; I'm her ward." He nodded slowly. And what of your mother? Or your father?" he prodded.
Daella scowled at him, unsure if she wanted to reveal the truth about her parentage to him or change the subject. "My mother died in childbirth, and my father was a soldier." She lied. If Daemon didn't see it necessary to tell his stepson of his legitimate child from his first wife, she didn't feel the need to add more confusion.
He hummed, accepting the answer but knowing there seemed to be more. As he spun Daella, they could feel Aemonds gaze peering into them. Jacearys couldn't tell if it was jealousy or annoyance since they were both working to attain House Arryn and the Vale.
Daella and Jacearys chatted for three dances, learning superficial things about one another.
If he had to marry her to secure the alliance, it seemed as if they could be happy together.
Throughout the night, gentlemen began to cut into their dances, wishing to spend time with the future Lady of the Vale.
Daella's feet began to ache, and her patience began to wear thin as different lords and their sons twisted and twirled her, all while interrogating her. She felt like an insect inspected under a magnifying glass.
Suddenly, a voice broke through the room. "A toast!" He shouted, "To the jewel of House Arryn, whose beauty shines brighter than the stars themselves." Aemond raised his chalice toward Daella, a smirk appearing as he heard the chants of agreement, turning to face Jacearys in a silent challenge.
As Daella studied their subtle interactions, she realized the power she held.
Daella Targaryen has bewitched the heir and the spare, and what they don't know is that she is prepared to devour them both; after all, she is her father's daughter and they are birds of prey.

THANK YOU I AGREE WITH YOUR AEMOND POST 1 MILLION %. Some of the replies are so frustrating, all you were doing is discussing the writers' decisions this season regarding Aemond, and how simplistic it would be for Aemond's motivations to betray Aegon to be based on the brothel scene. You put into words everything wrong with Aemond's arc this season and I tremendously agree! I feel that the writers are flip-flopping with Aemond and Aegon's relationship, first they were enemies as children, then Aemond lost his eye and they seemed to be on the same page, then AEGON'S SON WAS VICIOUSLY BRUTALLY MURDERED AND AEMOND IS (besides showing no character evolution driven remorse to speak of) BACK TO HATING AEGON AGAIN?! THAT'S HIS BROTHER. HIS NEPHEW. HIS SISTER'S KID. Aemond had zero fucks to give!
The fandom's reaction to Aemond has been so embarrassing! Why is he not held accountable for ANYTHING. EVER. I defended Aemond all through S1 and will always defend him from TB but HE'S A GROWN MAN NOW. He just doesn't show empathy for Aegon after Jahaerys' death, your brother is grieving and he swears Aegon is his King and he's his hitman and he will always serve his ass. IF THEY HAVE AEMOND MURDER AEGON BECAUSE HE TEASED HIM IN A BROTHEL WHAT EVEN IS THIS. Really bad writing. Really cringe too.
So don't worry there are some of us who whole heartedly agree with you and don't coddle Aemond a grown man, with the same standards season after season and hold him accountable for the sin of hoping he grows as a character even if he is heading for a darker turn.
thank you so much, anon, for this unexpected reply, as i'm hanging out at the airport with not much to do 😅
yeah, i think that, ON PAPER, aemond turning on his brother as a result of years of bullying is believable, sure, BUT. the bullying truly needs to be horrific to explain away the urge to commit basically three of the most grievous crimes in westeros: kingslaying, kinslaying and usurpation. like. no one takes those things lightly. and, i'm sorry, but teasing just doesn't cut it. i think that a lot of people may be kind of projecting their own personal grievances with school bullies onto aemond, which is natural to an extent, but they have to step back a little and realise that being rude or hurtful to someone just doesn't, in any way, merit a reaction so disproportionate that it amounts to soul-drenching crimes
in that regard, last season i was 100% on aemond's side as well, because, well, MUTILATION might warrant such an escalation in violence. compared to all that pent-up anger aemond felt for luke, the aegond rivalry is just not really well done. it COULD have been, but, without having seen ep 4, it feels very milquetoast and, most of all, unearned.
honestly, i think gwen emphasized really well the fact that we're in a fandom obsessed with their headcanons and brainrot, to the extent that it becomes difficult to separate the backstory one has created for some character with what has actually appeared on screen. what we've seen so far has only been mockery, and i get that, when you're a kid, it's very difficult to go through, but we are talking about murdering your sibling here. i mean, no, i don't think "it makes perfect sense". ALSO. pointing that out doesn't mean you're invalidating the trauma of bullying victims, let us please separate people's real experiences from fictional experiences, which 1. are fake and 2. can be improperly presented in media, which is what we are critiquing in the first place
on a final note, i have had people on my post clinging to this idea that, just because the writers had aemond say (in the most bored tone in existence) that he regrets "the business with luke" (or however the hell he phrases it) means that the writers want to communicate to us that he feels sorry over jaehaerys. please. they must either be aliens that are just now learning about human emotion OR they want to relay that aemond isn't really all that bothered fundamentally. his reaction is basically the stoned out version of this gif!
Tumblr media
but, anyway, as dumb as aemond's reasons are or aren't, what ultimately brings the whole rivalry down is that they really didn't invest in creating any dramatic tension between these two. think of the scene at storm's end, it's the literal version of "you could have cut the tension in the room with a knife" and it's only a few minutes long. so it can be done. they just don't care OR, because of this stupid trend of reducing the number of episodes in a season, aegond was just one of those things that hit the cutting room floor. so we can all blame capitalism for rook's rest. 😅

I am in a vicious Helaemond brainrot and I have to write down my silly thoughts. Bear me.
Now, I was thinking about Maelor and Alys. In the book Maelor is the second son of Aegon and Alys is a supposed lover of Aemond. Why am I thinking about them? Because I have some speculations (wishful thinking? Who cares, sue me then).
We know (as asoiaf readers) how sometimes the tv show eliminated certain characters from the narrative and gave their storylines to other existent characters. Like some parts of Jayne Poole's storyline was given to show-Sansa or how they skipped Val of the freefolks, focusing on Ygritte as Jon's love interest or the creation of a new character as Robb Stark's wife who was different from the one in the books. So I was thinking (like others here have catched up) what if they do the same with Helaena and Alys?
In the book Alys is a 40 years old witch of uncertain origin (maybe a bastard of Lyonel Strong) who became bedmate of Aemond after he conquered Harrenhall from Daemon. People have speculated on the possibility of Alys not being present in the show, because they already gave her prophetic powers to Helaena. In the book it was never mentioned that Helaena had any form of magic powers and because it's an historical account from an author who is writing everything based on others witnesses, it is plausible that the detail of Helaena's power was lost or never discovered.
However, it is a pretty big change. Not because Helaena's prophetic lines are heard by the people in the show (those people ignore them and just think she is weird), but because it was made evident she had these powers for the sake of the viewers. We are the target of this shown detail, we are the ones who have to catch up on her prophetic powers and not the characters in the show.
There was a specific decision in the writing room to give these powers to Helaena and if there is something the show does it's to try to keep the magic at minimum and clean most of the contorted storylines Martin usually comes up with.
There isn't a single reason to give Helaena magic powers if there is in plan another future seer in the show, they do not like make things double. They do not look pretty in a show, it takes away the element of surprise. Also, I argue it is better that a Targaryen has prophetic dreams than some random character. It makes the story of this dinasty even more poignant.
"Dreams didn't make us kings, dragons did" said Daemon. Well, ACTUALLY, dreams did made your dinasty, you fool. They saved your dinasty from the Doom of Valyria and (as the show told us) convinced Aegon the Conqueror that his desire to conquer the Seven Kingdoms was his family's destiny (duty).
Now, what does Maelor have to do with anything above? The fact is that I kept thinking about the decision making in the writing room, following this course of thoughts I thought: what if Helaena becomes pregnant of Maelor in next season?
I know, this is just a speculation and without bases beside my fantasy, but I have some logic on this. In the official website HBO updated the Targaryen's family tree (more of a wreath actually lol) and added Daeron (Viserys and Alicent's third and last son), but Maelor is still not present. He is not "born" yet in the show-universe, meanwhile Daeron is indeed alive and well in Oldtown.
Maelor has to play a pitiful part in the overall tragedy of the Dance of the Dragons and his presence is rather important in the context of the Blood&Cheese scene. The choice Helaena is forced to take in that scene is heartbreaking and impactful on her journey to madness, so I wondered why Maelor was not already introduced in the show.
Of course the scene will be heartbreaking with or without the presence of Maelor, but somehow it will take away some good shock value and HBO love giving shocks to the public. They could just eliminate Maelor and nobody will complain, but I came up with the idea that he will still be present, only later and still play some tragic destiny as victim of the war.
This is where my two streams of thought merged together. I imagined that the show could give parts of Alys' storyline to Helaena, it's within HBO writers' modus operandi as I explained before and they did already (her magic power). I also imagined that the show could still introduce Maelor, by making Helaena pregnant in season 2. The show can still make Maelor's presence impactful in Helaena's storyline, even if it is not in the context of Blood&Cheese. Maelor's demise can still hurt us emotionally. They just need to write it.
Now, do you know who is allegedly pregnant in the
book? Alys. And allegedly it is Aemond's child.
Now you know where I am pointing, right?
What if the writers give all those Alys' storyline parts/elements to Helaena? It is not far fatched and they subtly already hinted at Aemond's interest on her. So I can see them make a strategical choice from a narrative point of view and clean the already messy storyline of the Dance of the Dragons, by giving Aemond and Helaena a shared path as lovers. It just makes sense and it makes their journey even more tragic.
Anyway, I am not sure this discourse is clear enough. I am just vomiting my Helaemond thoughts, I know. Thank you for coming at my Ted Talk.

GUYYSSSS GUYSSSS HEAR ME OUT...
HOTD Scream au!
Aegon and Aemond are Ghostface, as that's the thought that started all of this...
Aegon would obviously be the Stu of the duo, treating it like a game and being overly enthusiastic and such. He'd get really frustrated with Aemond though for always being on his ass about being clean and careful, and I can see that causing problems for the duo in the future...
Anyway, Aemond would be Billy. Now, obviously, he's not as charming as Billy, but he's equally as conniving and has one hell of a poker face so I can see it. Despite him being the #1 suspect when it came out that the murderer was a student, because of his school shooter vibes, he somehow managed to talk his way around it.
Sweet little Helaena is the more relaxed, less social Tatum, who, although NOT dating her brother, is equally as close with him. Aegon treats her like one would a puppy, constantly doting on her and gushing about his cute baby sister.
Yeah, sister complex is real with that one.
Jace would be this au's version of Dewey, although he's not an officer, just the son of one (Harwin). Honestly, he's just a nosey high-school student who has far too much free time and unlimited access to the towns crime records. Once the Ghostface murders started happening he jumped on the chance to investigate and began snooping around the school, somehow not at all including his uncles in his list of suspects... (low-key stiles stilinski vibes)
Luke is Randy. Enough said lol. He's the one who convinced Jace to start looking into the case himself bc Harwin wouldn't listen to his horror movie nerd ramblings that he claimed were 'leads.'
Now, as for Sydney, I think the most fitting character for her would be Rhaena. Not only is she dating Luke (Corlys + Rhaenys, Vis and Daemon were all just super close friends, not actually related) which could cause a reverse Billy + Sydney and Randy situation, but she's also smart and a little youthfully naive, so she'd be more susceptible to believing Aemond and Aegons lies... I can see her being final girl.
Baela is Gale. It just makes sense. She's stubborn, strong, and badass and would absolutely work with Jace to uncover the Ghostface in order to post the story in the school newspaper and make her debut as a real reporter.
Just wanted to share my brainrot <3
