Cookie Based Desserts.
Original sweet recipes created by The American Home magazine in the 50s (except for the angel snow squares).
What do they all have in common? Cookies or crackers (apparently publicised on this page 82, which I don't have with me as far as I know).

Local libraries getting rid of physical medias such as newspapers, magazines, cds, dvds, and audiobooks is turning experiencing art into a privilege instead of a right but I don't think you guys are ready for that conversation
#the 95 year old lady who takes the city bus from the old folks home three times a week doesn't have spotify or a smartphone or a computer#how is she going to listen to her johnny cash cds#do you know how many kids I attended school with didn't have internet or wifi???#that wasn't even that long ago#they do not have streaming services stop getting rid of dvds and stop not buying new ones#also there are so many people who have a smart phone and the only thing they know how to do is call or text#if they want to keep using audiobooks let them! It's not killing you that they're not using libby#yes libby and hoopla and kanopy are great but the latter two have limited checkouts and the former usually has long waits#its not fair to expect older people and children learn how to use them if they don't want to or can't!#also magazines are basically unreadable online#so many girls will not be able to experience borrowing american girl magazines from the library because the library doesn't have magazines!#also don't even get me started on no newspapers#sorry I don't have the money for a monthly subscription to a newpaper guess I just won't know the news now#this is why everyone is getting fake news from twitter!#"but everyone has spotify and streaming services and audible and wifi and internet and smartphones and ipads and laptops#newsflash! they don't!#getting rid of physical media from libraries is actually very classist and ageist but people don't want to hear that#I love local libraries and think they are an amazing resource in so many ways#and that's why it hurts so much that they would leave such a large portion of their customers high and dry to maybe save a few bucks#rant#tags so long they probably could've been their own post lol

Peter Tork, 1966.
“Local Singer Debuts On NBC-TV Sept. 12 Mansfield (Special) — A local folk-singer will make his television debut Sept. 12 when The Monkees’ premiere on the NBC network at 8 p.m. Peter Thorkelson, 24, is the son of Prof. and Mrs. John Thorkelson of Wormwood Hill Road. Known professionally as Peter Tork, [he] has been interested in folk singing and the guitar for the past 15 years. A 1959 Edwin O. Smith High School graduate, he attended Carlton [sic] College in Northfield, Minn. While there he was a disc jockey for the college radio station. Thorkelson as been entertaining in Greenwich Village and Hollywood, Calif. for the past three years. During his year at Smith, he was a reporter for the school humor magazine and was active in the drama club. Before attending Smith, Thorkelson completed three years at Wyndham High School where he was active in the drama, rifle and French clubs and was a member of the school band. […] Peter will be flying into New York with the other cast members, to spend the weekend with his grandmother, Mrs. Cait Strauss [sic].” - Hartford Courant, September 3, 1966
"[When I lived in New York] I also taught a bunch of kids up in Westchester for awhile. I wonder if they remember me now." - Peter Tork, The Monkees: Here We Are (1967)
“I arrived on the Village scene the winter of ‘61, and stayed there for about two and a half years. I played guitar and banjo. I came to the Village for glamour, excitement, hippiedom, the liberal lifestyle, free love. I was on the basket-passing circuit in the smaller clubs, like the Basement, the Cyclops and the Id. I later played Gerdes. What I was working towards was to be in a group. When the Beatles hit, where were all the folkies going to go? But I also wanted to be a folk music performer. A lot of what I did was hanging out, feeling for the first time that I was part of the scene, walking down the street and seeing people I knew, doing a little flirting. People were coming to the Village to sit down and have a cup of coffee and hope to find the free love that was supposed to be all around. The character that I was on The Monkees was developed on the stages of the Village clubs.” - Peter Tork, Bringing It All Back Home: 25 Years of American Music at Folk City (1986) (x)
More about Peter’s years at Carleton College and Greenwich Village here; more about Peter’s school days here.

I've been looking at ideas for apartment layout and I do not enjoy looking at pristine desks with almost nothing on them except the computer and some glass jars. (only writers get an exception from my complaint about this and still only the ones that keep all their notes digitally). what are people doing there???? where is the desk burdened with materials? where is all the stuff you use when you sit down and create things? I'm not expecting a mess here; it's not hard to nicely arrange a lot of stuff. But these pics are too empty. They're not useful to me as interior design inspiration because they couldn't handle more stuff. too delicate. Another terrible variant is the pristine house full of kitschy crap on every free surface. Same problem as the empty case but now the design is overburdened already. No room to live there unless you want to push aside the faux-aged books and the fake heirloom things on the shelfs (that have nothing practical on them). I cannot stand it when the entirety of pointless home design demands being filled with garbage as a sad attempt to hide how useless the house itself is to anyone that lives there. (this is extremely common in cookie-cutter houses in suburban wastelands like Las Vegas) I request more cozy lived-in small spaces inspiration. With books and stacks of papers and that little pile of computer dongles and your headphones and doodads that collect on top of the books you're trying to read and over on the sofa there's a few blankets and your nintendo switch and another pair of headphones and on the side table is a half-put away board game and on the coffee table is some craft stuff you were working on while watching The Terror.
