Yu Ziyuan and Madam Jin! Look, I know we don’t get much info on Madam Jin (she doesn’t even get named) but they’re both such intriguing characters and the fact that the two of them were close enough to arrange for their kids to get married. Despite what their kids wanted! Not wanting to hear otherwise!

Look me in the eye and tell me that doesn’t have all the hallmarks of marriage by proxy! We know YZY wasn’t happy with her marriage and - I do think that her and JFM had some sort of care for each other that was likely built over time but clearly not a solid foundation - Madam Jin is stuck with JGS who is a colossal pos.

I’m just saying there is so much to play around with here. Two very skilled and talented female cultivators who were forced into loveless marriages for the sake of status and social norms. One runs her sect with an iron fist. The other has little control over her life or circumstances. They’re mean and ruthless, selfish at times, volatile but capable and AGH!

With the dearth of interesting and human female characters we get in MDZS, you’d think people would eat this shit up but no, of course not, how silly.

okay, so i am going to answer this through the lens of ravenstan and jerseykyle secretly dating sort of in the middle of rm, after kyle finds out raven is his stan ( which is my second favorite chapter aaaaa!!!! ) because by the time they start actually officially dating/are out to the public, the original corrupt management line-up, namely fartman aka e.t. tenorman, are dissolved/dealt w.

but management...while they don't Know abt it,

…they do naught like it.

because, yes, while i do think that kyle be ironing stan's pants and fluffing up his hair...he do be equally fucking it like secretly violently making out with him before shows ahsdlkadsk so, like, as a result, i would proport that stan is cleaner...but his reputation gets Sloppier.

i say this because ravenstan is a 'yes man', lived under managements thumb ( by management i really just mean cartman -- i called him 'management' so as not to give too much away ), was basically a pretty boy rockstar marionette that cartman could get to do whatever he wanted bc he owns raven/all of the cd boys technically.

but when stan starts secretly dating kyle...jersey really bolsters his confidence and rae starts to get very bold and defiant/take his power back. bc kyle watching stan wither is like, you don't need to take that baby! you are in charge, this is your show. you don't have to do whatever they want! they're the ones who have to listen to YOU.

so when management starts ordering stan around, for like the first time since he started being raven, he puts his little combat boot down ( ravenstan having tiny ass feet is so funny to me ) and is like "no, i don't want to do that. i want to do this." literally my man is like "I. SAID. I. WANT. TO. GO. TO. TACO. BELL!" sdhkjsahd go awwhff!

but more than any of that...he just looks so much Happier. :') like he is drinking waaaaay less, he's smiling so much more and it's genuine, its not a shield for his sadness...him and kyle do play up hating each other to divert the suspicions of their friends and the world around them, which is so funny bc they're like "i hate you" and then texting each other hearts and smileys, kickin their feet and twirling their hair.

tldr: stan gets securer, happier and bouncier while secretly dating kyle, but that means his performance as gritty bad boy heartthrob raven of crimson dawn gets a lot weaker, faker and messier. he starts standing his ground and i'm not sure about whether cart knows or not, but i think the wheels are turnin in his head, watching stan and kyle sit closer and closer together, stan racing out of his dressing room with his clothes askew, at meetings on his phone w/ heart eyes.

What is RSDS? I know Fei Ren Zai, is RSDS a related series?

It stands for Rénshēng Dàshì, or Lighting Up the Stars! It's a film about a little girl named Wu Xiaowen (who's heavily Li Nezha coded) who loses her beloved grandmother and, since the rest of her family don't care about her, eventually gets foisted onto the fresh-out-of-prison mortician Mo Sanmei (who's heavily Sun Wukong coded) and his friends. They clash a lot at first but spoiler alert do form a really lovely daughter-father bond that legit made me cry. For me it was particularly neat to see the "angry destructive child" aspect of Li Nezha being utilized for Wu Xiaowen to show how it's actually completely understandable for kids to throw tantrums and act out when no adult will give them the love they need or take the time to explain things, especially things like the death of a family member. And Mo Sanmei definitely stands no contest as the best cringefail loser Sun Wukong out there on account of the plot pulling no punches to show what a legitimately shitty and pretty pathetic guy he was BUT also showing his gradual and sincere change into a kind and caring man, including all the the hard work he put into making the lives of those he loves a little bit better.

i also just really really love that lil moment in the promo where they're showing tarlos kind of giggling with Paul as they hold hands. its so sweet and so realistic because weddings can be so overwhelming and emotional and the little laugh break that up a little and and its going to drop kick me off the planet since i'm still not going to be recovered from this week

oh yeah i’ve been having a meltdown over them having that little laugh, hands clasped, glimpse of gabriel’s ring on carlos’ finger, them being so so happy and it hitting extra hard because paul was the first one to know something was happening with them? paul inherently has a deep connection to them? and like ignore the blurry screenshots but i’m truly like shaky and teary over them

i think the idea of doing so did, but i don't think i ever considered actually doing it - it just didn't really appeal to me at the time. fun fact, i went into the fic fully intending not to include any romance apart from wizlecto's established relationship (which as we all know has now fallen through)

generally i'm not the biggest fan of their romantic dynamic - i feel like if i were to push them in a more intimate direction, they'd be more of a qpr

Uhhhh honestly, Roxy's pretty different to a lot of my usual other blorbos. I could compare her to Labrys from Persona 4 Arena in a sense that they're both robots with horrible trauma that have been forced to do things they wouldn't dream of doing otherwise, but that doesn't feel like a great comparison ngl

I could compare her to a lot of blorbos though. Like Bracken from Ni No Kuni 2, Unit #024 and Labrys from Persona 4 Arena, for being chronically underutilized by the devs. Maybe PURL from Kuni 2 but PURL feels more... Like an opposite to Mimic? The first attempt at sentient AI in that world, determined to answer the question of what colour is the sky for herself... Only knows a few things, a child her closest friend, and accidentally takes over the wholeass factory in her attempts to see the sky again after like a decade of being deactivated. And also because the devs couldn't think of anything interesting for a new Broadleaf area so they wanted to make sure you did the wholeass factory again for some fucking reason.

Ohhh then again, I was watching those clips last night and Toothless and Hiccup made me think of Roxy and Cassie in an AU kind of way. Mostly because of the dogisms I like to give Roxy and because of several AUs that are more in line with How to Train Your D/ragon... (Put a slash in it to make extra sure I don't end up in any searches for that) So maybe Toothless? Maybe not?

Honestly I don't think I've ever liked a character that has shown much interest in their appearance before. Maybe Erza from Fairy T/ail? Looks cool and could kill you but has zero braincells whatsoever? Also very traumatised? Koromaru from P3 cause his persona is Cerberus and Roxy is the Cerberus to Mimic? And I can see her running around with a knife in her teeth? I dunno man that's a tough question

Ohhh there was also Blaze from the Sonic games! Not because of Roxy specifically, but because in coming up with a horse for her, many of the ideas for it was giving my Blaze vibes lmao. She has a horse in the Olympic games and it's pure white with light purple tack and possibly eyes I don't remember so yeah that kept popping to mind in coming up with a horse nsjsdj

And I suppose my OC Zephyr somewhat reminds me of her. That whole universe I made was started when I got so deep into a Pupcakes/Roxica Pirates AU that I decided to make it a whole thing and Zephyr is who Roxy in the story became. I like Zephyr she's very cool and has become very distinct from Roxy, but her roots are still there, ya know? I'll always remember where she started.

Jsisjsi I could associate Roxy with Disney's Bolt too just cause he's a superhero dog and a funny lil guy. And for some reason one of the OST tracks for the DS game will plague my mind for the rest of my days. Even though I'm thinking of every track but that one right now. It's the one for Bolt's part of the... Something Temple level. Bolivia? Belize??? I think it has a B in it... But anyway yeah Superdog! Hooray!

P03 from Inscryption too but mostly because it's tech themed, and I had that old AU where I drew her as the Scrybe of Technology. Inscryption is incredible btw I fucking love it. I suck at it apparently though. I got to Act 2 and played a fucking beefed up Ouroborus in the first stage of P03's fight like "oh I've got this fucker now!!" No I did not. I absolutely did that. BACK ON TOPIC yeah Roxy's a pretty different character to the norm for me. Genuinely can't think of anyone that might be similar to her enough for them to remind me of her if I saw them again. Maybe if I went back and watched the old My Little Pony from the fucking 70s or whatever, but it would just be the standard stereotype of "all girls care lots about their appearance and gasp in horror if you dirty a pretty dress" probably. You know the one. I do my best not to humour that shit in my own Roxy interpretation but it's hard to forget that's absolutely where her written personality stems from :/

Well anon given my lethal weakness to dad Wukong, Li Nezha who's given a decent parental figure, and stories about genuinely sucky people who genuinely try and succeed in doing better by themselves and others yeah I'm going to have to thank you for introducing me to this film. Have to note that of course it's not perfect & that some parts seem kind of overblown, but honestly I found this work to be a really touching piece on death, grief, selfish desires and their consequences, and how we might live with joy with each other even after our loved ones are gone.
