he’s a designer and you are an idol.. guess what that means. process and commentary under the cut:

ok so w.a.m.s is one of my FAVORITE (if not my favorite) songs off folie à deux and since it was recently folie’s bday (I’m like. two week late but it doesn’t matter) i thought i should do a piece for it!!!!!

about the piece: this piece went thru a LOT of redesigns because I really didn’t have a clear idea of what I wanted it to look like—at first I wanted to have a bit of a retro, 50s diner, mid-century modern look but that kinda all fell apart with the composition I ended up choosing (and yes, i could have changed the composition to make it work but that is seriously overestimating my creative ability tbh). it’s supposed to be like a headshot covering the waitress’ face (haha get it. bcuz w.a.m.s stands for waitress, actress, model, singer. get it) but also I haven’t drawn an actual face in SO LONG so that’s why it. looks like that. originally I wanted to have some sort of receipt or diner menu that had the lyrics to the song but ultimately i couldn’t make that composition work so I scrapped it

speaking of which, the LETTERING FOR THIS DAMN PIECE. oooooh i Talk a lot about having trouble w lettering but this one takes the cake—i could not, FOR THE LIFE OF ME, figure out how I wanted to make this lettering and I’m not 100% sold on it so do me a favor and just tell me it looks good without looking tooooooo closely at it.

while I work in black and white usually, the colors weren’t all that complicated because they are taken from the folie à deux album cover! in case it wasn’t obvious LMFAO

also ended up using a different brush than my other pieces so it looks a bit more polished than the rough, traditional art-looking vibe of my other FOB pieces—I’m not sure which one I like more!! what do u guys think :0?

hey ling, hope ur doing well and was wondering if i could ask some advice - totally ok if no but. im currently trying to screen record a cdrama right now so i can rewatch it later w/o paying, but i only recorded one episode and it's taken up all my icould and google drive storage 😭 i was wondering if u knew anything i could do, since i feel like r educated in the ways of 🏴‍☠️ 😭

screenrecording is the least efficient way of doing it i think :( ive never tried to do it for more than maybe a few minutes-long clips (most are around 30-40 seconds!), and doing it bloats your memory while also being worse quality. now the last thing may not be a huge deal (i personally dont mind if sth is 4k or 480/720p, esp since older films and dramas simply are harder to find in full hd), but storage efficiency is what you're here for so!!

delete things (files, programs, games, etc) you don't use (anymore), as that probably already opens up a ton of space. there are programs that can help you with looking up which files and shit you use/open the least.

when pirating, ofc use a trusted site and client but also check which files are the smallest and just get that one (unless youre a gifmaker or a real stickler for hd, 720p will suffice imo). tv series in my experience run about 20-30gb if theyre 1080, so even smaller if it's not as hd! google drive only gives 15gb but i think if you compress it into a zip file it miiiiiight fit? if not you can just split it between gdrive and your icloud :)!

an alternatuve option would be to find a streaming wrbsite that had the series but not paywalled, it's less work but the downside is that you can't access this offline (the main reason i like owning (digital) copies)

last but not least, and unfortunately this is the best way to have enough storage: invest in an external hard disk. if you're planning on having more tv series (and perhaps movies) on ur pc/laptop, the best and easiest way to make sure you (almost) never run out of storage is to just... buy more! i splurged on a 5tb external hard disk with bday-christmas money but obviously even having a 256gb/512gb one will be enough if you're not obsessed with putting entire filmographies on there like me djfngmv even getting a bunch of 32/64/128gb usb sticks will prob help out, and while it absolutely is an investment, if you're already paying for a subscription this is a surefire way to make sure you get your money's worth in case they take it off the platform or whatever (looking at how guardian got the boot from literally every streaming platform including yt 😭😭😭)

With every comment I read, another tear escapes. I can’t seem to stop reading them though. Why can’t I stop reading them?

Why are people so mean? How did they even find me?

I posted one photo. One photo where you can’t even see his face, but that doesn’t stop the crazy fangirls. Anthony was worried this would happen. Did he know that people would say I’m not good enough? Does he not think I’m good enough?

That thought causes a whole new onslaught of tears to escape. I finally decided to shut my phone off once it became impossible to even read any more comments with the amount of tears blurring my vision.

As soon as I put my phone down it immediately starts ringing. I quickly wipe my eyes to try and rid the tears so I can see who is calling me. It’s Anthony.

I answer the phone with a short greeting, “Hey, what’s up?” I wince at the obvious crack in my voice, knowing he’ll pick up on it.

“Hey, you alright?” Knew it.

“Yeah, yeah. I was just watching some cute videos of puppies. You know that always gets me!” I lie straight through my teeth.

He chuckles. “Is that your way of subtly hinting that we should get a dog?”

“We? Yo--you would want to get a dog... with me?” I stammered out.

I don’t even hear his answer because I instantly start doubting myself. Why would he want a dog with me? He probably just meant in general.

He notices my silence and clears his throat before continuing, “Uh, so anyway I just wanted to let you know that I’m on my way over. I got some Mexican food from that place you like by mine. Is that good?”

I snap out of my thoughts to stutter out a quick answer, “Ye--yeah that’s fine. See you soon.” Then I hang up before he can say anything else.

I go to my bathroom to try and freshen up so Anthony won’t be able to notice I was crying earlier. I don’t want him worrying about me.

I hear keys jiggling before Tito echoed out, “Y/n?”

I quickly splash some more water on my face before drying it off and making my back out into the living room.

“Hey.” I greet my boyfriend, who's setting out all the food and tupperware on the coffee table.

He looks up at my voice with a bright smile on his face, which immediately turns into a frown upon noticing my face.

“Have you been crying?” He wondered. “What happened? And don’t say it was the video of puppies.” He drawled.

When I don’t give him an answer right away, he slowly approaches me and takes me into his arms before whispering into my hair, “What’s wrong baby?”

At that question, the waterworks return.

Confused, Anthony pulls me at arms length and tries to look me in the eyes before asking, “What do you mean I was right? About what?”

Ignoring his questions I continue to blubber out, “Why do you even like me? I don’t even look like any of the other hockey girlfriends or WAGS or whatever you call it!!” With tears streaming down my face, my voice gradually gets higher and higher as I continue to spew all my insecurities.

Realization dawns on Anthony’s face and then he cuts me off by shushing, “Hey. Hey stop. I don’t want to hear any of that, okay?”

He cups my face with his calloused hands, forcing me to look at him.

“They’re just jealous, okay? They know nothing about you, about us. Nothing they say is true.I could care less what anyone thinks of us. None of their opinions matter except for ours.”

He pauses to wipe the tears from my cheeks before bringing me into a gentle kiss. Instead of fully pulling away, Anthony pressed his lips to each of my cheeks kissing away the remaining tears.

I wrap my arms around his torso and bring my head to his chest to listen to his heartbeat. I softly murmur against his chest, “God, I really don’t deserve you. You are so amazing.”

Tito makes a little noise of disapproval and asks, “Are you happy with me?”

“Of course I’m happy with you.” This time I’m the one who pulled him at arm's length to stare him directly in the eyes to make sure he believed every word coming out of my mouth.

“Well, you deserve to be happy.” He voiced.

You couldn’t help but tease him sometimes, it was not everyday that you get to see this benevolent dorm leader this needy after all. However, as you kept on feeding him, Azul’s gaze accidentally shifted on your hand and widened to see multiple band-aids decorating them.

He stopped eating and gave you a serious, yet worried look. “What happened to your hand?” He firmly asked, which startled you for a second. “Don’t tell me…You got this from cooking earlier…!?”

You blinked multiple times before smiling once again. “Oh, this? Yeah, it’s just a few cuts though, some are burns actually.” You explained, honest to a fault, unaware on how it might affect the dorm leader. “It doesn’t hurt at all, I just covered them up because they’re not very pleasing to look at.”

Azul scrunched his eyebrow together as he grasps your hands against his. “B-But still…You got hurt, right?” He said softly, which was incredibly rare for you to hear. “…This is why I told you that we should’ve let others handle it…”

“If it does then, would you hate for it?” You asked, and was quickly met with Azul violently shaking his head.

“Of course not! Why would I-!”

“Exactly!” You cheerfully said, making Azul blink in response. “You’ve done so much for me, Azul. So, I at least wanted to do something for you in return. These cuts and burns are all accident, but even if it’s not, it was for your sake. I thought getting a little hurt was worth seeing your cheerful face for.”

Azul slowly blushed and looked down at you. “…You should know that it’s not just because it’s your birthday, you know? I’ll be happy to treat you like this any time you want.” You said, leaning closer and gently knocking your forehead against his. “So, don’t be sad anymore, okay?”

Silence ensued for a few second before a gentle but upset “…Yeah.” Was said, along with a slight nod. Regardless, you smiled as cheerfully as before now that he’s slowly going back to his own self. Giggling, you quickly pulled him for a hug, hoping to demolish his sulking attitude.

It took a while, but slowly, you felt his hand wrapping around you as well. He was really warm. “…Dummy.”

You were on your way to Albedo's station on Dragonspine. It was the day you were finally deciding to confess to your best friend of 8 years. Of course at first you were afraid of telling him about your feelings, afraid to ruin your friendship. But after some persuasion from your other best friend, Kaeya (idk I feel like he is one of the characters who is most likely to try to convince his best friend to confess their feelings), you finally agreed after 2 years. Yes, you have been hiding your feelings for 2 years, that was until Kaeya caught you staring at him a few months after you started liking Albedo. He only took a few second to catch on to what was happening. "Oh ho I see someone is in love aye?" Blushing at Kaeya's comment you turned away from the boy you were unconsciously staring at to scowl at Kaeya. "No I do not!" you scoffed, standing up and storming off as he chuckled at your reaction. After 2 years of convincing and encouragement, you were finally going to confess. You nervously played with your fingers as you walked up towards his campsite , the snow not affecting you due to your cryo vision (I wish this was real in Genshin ehe I got this idea from a fanfic on Wattpad I'm so sry but I forgot who wrote this although i just read this fanfic yesterday). As you approached his campsite, you could hear faint voices and one extremely high pitched and loud voice. Paimon. You decided not to intrude on their conversation and just waited outside, not thinking much about their conversation until you heard this one line coming out from his mouth. "I- I like you..." you peeked your head a little to see the inside without letting them see you, to see a flustered Albedo with a burning red face and a extremely happy Lumine. You choked back a sob, alerting of them of your presence. You saw Albedo and Lumien turn to face you with eyes widened. That was when you made your run for it, all the way back to Mondstadt. Once you made it to Mondstadt, you ran all the way back to your house, but of course you had to run into Kaeya halfway through. He stopped you and was about to ask how the confession went until he saw your red puffy eyes. You pushed past him and ran back to your house without anyone stopping you anymore. Shutting the door behind you, you rushed to your bedroom and shut yourself in. Flopping on the bed, you thought to yourself, "Why am I like this? I'm his best friend, i should be happy for him, he finally found someone he loves. So why am I so disappointed? Why didn't I catch the signs earlier? Maybe that way it wouldn't have hurt this much. I should have caught on earlier. I wish I am Lumine, would you have chose me if I were more like her? Because I'm not her, I'm nothing like her."

this has been my “I don’t feel like sleeping yet so imma work on something” piece for about a week now, not that it was exceptionally hard just that it was originally supposed to be just a normal digital illustration, but then I tried watercolor, messed that up, tried colored pencil that didn’t work either. so ✨pixelart✨ (it’s like,, my second time doing pixelart but it’s so therapeutic like wth)

Haha its fine! Im book anon for a reason so take all the time you need! Before I start, I wanna apologize for the possible asks you got about the merch and hybe in general. I didn't intend to cause stress and need to be careful bdjahdsj so slap me with a fish!

Onto the ask! But agreed, I mean before the big kpop boom we saw, this was very common. Build a decent fanbase and then move to Japan or China. (Of course sometimes you see INSTANT movement in other countries but that depends on the company and such but you know what I mean) but since we do have the more global kpop era, we may see more companies do America which isn't a bad thing. It makes sense buisness wise so they will jump on it after debut or something. Thus I don't see it a bad thing for kpop groups to promote in America because hey, if in Korea they do sell western artist music who also tour there, kpop groups can also do the same ya know?

Now onto the hybe comment, I will try not to speak too much on it so I will try to summarize. I think my theory is due with merch from their main artist, they think maybe it could work with svt which maybe could but svt has a different fanbase so throwing on random merch won't make fans really want to buy (not saying some won't which kudos to you! As a fan you are allowed to consume what you please except not be a bad apple about it) so thus like the infamous water bottles which was done for bts, they thought why not do it for svt because bts fans sold it out apparently for a 2nd wave of it being sold again. (Which to this day idk why someone in the hybe team thought this was smart. Like...this is just in bad taste imo) I do wanna agree that it appears that hybe doesn't seem to have a proper art team for svt because while sometimes wild, I do know for their main artist they do have thoughtful merch based around say an album concept I recall. Kf course they will make mistakes i.e. the water bottles. I do wish it can improve because even though it is capitalism, I think fans do want decent merch. We have seen interesting ideas like svt making their own magazine and selling it lol. Of course it is hard to please because some fans want subtle merch ideas while others don't mind the vibrant pastel colors we got or some want wild ideas like svt figurines or something. Overall I hope I didn't drag this too much as I just wanted to respond back to you, I agree with many points you said so yeah cx I say let's also wait as this is barely what, a year or even less of svt being under hybe properly. Especially when hybe had its rebranding and expanding so things are being changed, I know fans are worried about this which is valid but let's not panic just yet. Let's come back in a year to this and see what has improved and what hasn't. (OK but peldis sold the boys rings!? :o since when!? I haven't heard of this actually, when did this happen if I may ask?)

Oof yeah sadly with streaming, many view "oh you don't stream it means you aren't a fan" when isn't the case (which is why I personally don't like when certain companies also do "listening parties" which seems a bit ???) I do remember this popped up big in 2017 but many fans called it out so it quiet down a bit. Like we didn't see it so often where fans were causing problems over it so idk why this returned nor what the cause of it was.

But thank you!! It really was a nice closing chapter, I think when I have personal stuff settled I will try maybe get a new bunny? And oohh congrats on the album! (Note to hybe or pledis. Please make the us store a more common thing, it makes things so much easier! Am happy it was at your place quick so kudos to the us store. Oohh wonderful choices! I think for many fans anyone or heaven's cloud seems to be the popular picks? For me, I may have to say game boi or heaven's cloud as well! Those songs make me just so happy? Like game boy is just so creative with the way it was made. As a video game nerd, it is perfection. I could make an essay about this song lol and heaven's cloud is just...wow. I feel so at ease with the song, comfortable and soothed. Like you are on a cloud lol. Also that is totally fine! Rtl was a grower for me (I blame the mv, it didn't do the song jusitice) but it is a bop and can't stop humming the chorus at random moments. Overall a great summer album. Just imagine any of these songs performed live ndjansns

and yeah i agree! i don't think it's a bad thing for groups to promote in the US, as you said, it's similar to groups expanding their fanbase by promoting in china or Japan or other asian counties, it makes sense from a business standpoint and there's nothing wrong with promoting in different countries. i just wish that some kpop stans understood that western and/or global popularity is a bonus and not a requirement for success. while they do have a global appeal, at the end of the day kpop's main audience is korea, and groups that achieve popularity in Korea have already achieved what they set out to do. but there's unfortunately a decent chunk of international fans that prioritize western popularity over anything and can't fathom that a group can be successful without being popular in the US. or they just talk as if their groups western achievements are more valuable than their Korean ones and to me that starts to look like xenophobia... (sorry if I'm repeating anything i said before in regards to this, i feel like i am but I'm too lazy to go back and check OTL)

since you sent this ask hybe released the caratland merch which was actually really nice, and today they also announced that there will be birthday merch for cheol (and presumably all members from here on out). we don't know what the bday merch is yet but some carats are already a bit miffed that hybe is even thinking to capitalize off the boys' birthdays... i bring both of these up bc i feel like the caratland merch proves your point that hybe is capable of designing good and thoughtful merch, and honestly this does reassure me a bit. but on the other hand them trying to capitalize off the boys' birthdays also proves that they still don't fully understand carats wants and priorities as a fanbase. which, if the future of seventeens merch is gonna be quality merch with some shitty cash grabs in between, i can live with that. I'm not gonna like the shitty cash grabs and i think it would be in our best interest as a fandom to not go crazy buying those shitty cash grabs, because if we don't then hybe will hopefully stop wasting their time and put more effort into /quality/. but if we get quality merch for important events like concerts and fanmeetings, i can live with it. as you said too, it can take time for these things to change, and we should all recognize that. but at the same time merch specifically is market driven, so i don't think it's a bad thing if people like @ hybe on twt about any bad merch that comes out in order to drive that change dhfkfj

but also on a maybe more fun note in regards to the merch... with some carats being upset about the bday merch i was thinking about what hybe could do for merch instead that would fill the niche of being at intervals throughout the year that could still be limited time drops but that carats wouldn't be mad at them capitalizing on and then i was like duh! they could literally just make merch off of going seventeen! honestly I'm surprised they haven't yet. maybe not merch for every episode, but they could have a line of permanent gose merch w a basic logo or something and then release limited time merch themed around some of the more popular episodes at various points during the year. I'm actually kind of obsessed with this idea now and for once I'm like hybe/pledis please capitalize off of this!! dhfkgjg

they never actually sold them, but for seventeens 3rd anniversary, pledis planned to sell replicas of seventeens rings. after it was announced carats were understandably upset since the boys worked so hard for those. luckily pledis heard carats concerns and put out an apology and didn't manufacture them in the end. I'm glad that at least they listened to carats even though it would have been better if they had never considered the idea in the first place :(

oh yeah listening parties are definitely just another marketing technique to boost streams. i think like with a lot of marketing techniques, it just depends on the execution. imo if they're done well it can be a good way for fans to connect while listening to an artists music, which is mutually beneficial for the company, but i can totally see a situation where companies get greedy and push it too hard. i don't know anything about what happened with them back in the day, but if you're curious why SVT had listening parties leading up to your choice, they were set up by UMG, the American distributor that SVT worked with for this cb. in this case the listening parties weren't just for boosting streams, but also likely for UMG to gauge interest. SVT isn't officially signed to a US label yet, but UMG's data from the listening parties could be used to show US labels whether or not there's enough interest for them to be signed. which if that happens we'd almost definitely see a more permanent US shop!

yes! heavens cloud and gam3 bo1 are both such feel good songs! my sister actually added heavens cloud to their Spotify after i made them listen to the album in the car dhfkf it's now one of 6 kpop songs they have saved (4 of which are SVT... my influence 💅 DHFJFH) I'm certain we'll see some of the songs from your choice at caratland this year, hopefully it's all of them but I'd especially like to see heavens cloud and wave 👀 I'm also still crossing my fingers for an i wish live performance bc i can't believe my favorite SVT b-side is one of the TWO tracks they haven't performed live not including the new album (the other one being network love, which i would also like to see live!)

my tl on twitter is reminiscing old dsmp era again so now im thinking about how i got into watching puffy. i dont even remember how or when exactly i actually became an avid watcher of her? all i know is that the first proper stream i watched of her live was the one where she built a cat statue for hbomb's bday. and its from that stream where i drew her for the first time, as well as posted anything dsmp related on the internet :D

idk how i imprinted on her or whY i just read comments about how shes great and funny and because her stream schedule was a GREAT help in getting into her content because it wasnt in an extremely late time for me (goodbye to those streams btw, she's starting to stream much earlier now and genuinely seems to like it more which im happy for her for BUT IM SADGE TOO BC THOSE TIMES ARE 2 AM FOR ME CRIES), i guess i just got more and more attached :’3

dream actually used to be my most favored cc/character in the dsmp, not that i dont love him now, but because i watched puffy everyday my love for her just skyrocketed throughout the months ive been here lol. ive even written fic about c!dream, two of them to be specific, one of which is a.. uh.. an unfinished multichapter prison redemption fic which i have yet to update since... uh... late february, but we dont talk about that. unfortunately i havent really been into it as much as i used to? since the lore streams just kept pouring out and MAN am i self-conscious about how i write, so its in the back burner for now
