#the characters ive been putting off making designs for i need to talk to my mom about. alot really

so, the posts on this blog about facial difference inspired me to make an oc with facial difference- specifically strabismus and a port wine stain. she's pretty much become one of my favourite characters to draw and develop, ive taken care to make sure she doesn't fall into shitty tropes. however, i have had one problem- in the world she lives in, rebels like her cover their face most of the time. ive been really struggling on how to design her mask/covering in a way that doesn't feel shitty, and doesn't feel like it's trying to cover her facial difference. and i know that technically it's not as bad if she's not the only character who wears a mask, but i still don't wanna push it, if you know what i mean? so it would be awesome if you could give suggestions on how i could handle her mask. here's a reference of her for. reference, and some ideas ive had for masks. thank you for taking the time, and for this blog in general!

I think that something close to the second one would actually be kinda fun (no irony or sarcasm). If we're talking about a story where everyone wears a mask, having the character with FD wear one that covers everything except for the FD is actually subversive! I never thought I would say that, but it does feel like it is.

Not sure how strict of a design should it be, but a diagonal - her bottom right to her top left - mask would be nice!

I tried to write down a detailed description of what I mean but it was coming out rather overcomplicated, so I hope you're okay with me doing a few demonstrative sketches; a diagonal and rather-silly option, an idea for the bandana with a drawn smile and the kind of tie that would show her necklace, and an idea for the half-mask but with an eye with strabismus painted on the mask.

So here are the suggestions! I haven't drawn in a while so my skills are kinda rusty, but I hope it conveys the concept! My personal favorite would be the first one - I know it barely counts as a mask but then again, in comics it's common that someone is unrecognizable when they wear a pair of glasses, so maybe it's not as farfetched haha.

The second one would be totally fine by my standards, but I'm assuming that her necklace has some kind of significance in the story, so maybe she could cross it at the back and tie it in the front instead for it to be more visible (or wear the necklace over it even?).

I think that doing something like on the third drawing above would be okay if there are also a lot of moments where her actual strabismus is shown. In general, I think that the idea of a character with a facial difference wearing a mask just to paint it on the mask is kinda silly, and I feel like it would fit her character. But for something like that to work, she would need to have the mask off often. If you choose to do that, I suggest your first time showing her to the viewer is with her mask off, both for the usual reasons I mentioned before but also because strabismus is often used as a gag in art. For me, seeing a character wear that kind of mask with no context would be kind of eye-rolling - but seeing a character with a crossed eye put on a mask with the same exact kind of eye, go and join their friends at doing rebel things? That's actually something new!

I enjoy that your character seems to be on the rather joyful and happy side, I like that :-) (smile emoji)

for ling:

most fandom takes are incorrect: maybe it’s just me but ive seen a decent amount of people make ling out to be a pervert or just reduce him to a stupid silly character. ling yao is NOT A PERVERT! WHERE DID YOU GET THAT FROM! he would never even do HALF OF THE THINGS YOU GUYS ARE TALKING ABOUT!!!!!!!!!! and he is so far from just being a funny guy that makes the audience laugh. his motives and character as a whole are so incredibly strong and i’ve never been so fascinated with a character like ling yao. please give him more attention.

that also goes hand in hand w/ stop putting them in situations!!: he would not be looking up girls skirts or something 🙁 be kind to him i think he deserves the world also. the cast of fma consists of a bunch of 14-16 year olds who traveled across the world to fulfill what they feel is their destiny but they end up on a journey of pain and suffering instead. they are children they should be playing roblox and minecraft and brain rotting like me ……….. i need a 500 chapter fic of ling being happy and joyous and eating all the wonderful meat in amestris.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE NOT ENOUGH CANON / UNDERRATED: as much as i love greedling and understand the combo … i wish ling got more screentime alone separate from greed. he is really such an interesting and unique character with a banging design and sometimes i feel greed robbed him of his iconic features (his yellow jacket & sword) and people just forget that greedling exists because ling was strong enough to withstand the homunculus in his system + LING IS THE BODY!!! he is serving that facecard and body 24/7 because that’s all ling yao!!! i still do really like greedling because they have a lot of room for interaction but i feel like ling yao is one of the characters who is often forgotten when it comes to merch n whatnot. he’s not as much of a main character as ed of course but he is just forgotten!! he is really such a cool character i wish there was more of him everywhere

there’s probably a deep seated reason why i love him: yes. because he is me and i am him (not really). i just project onto him and he is just me at this point! i will forever be such a huge ling yao fan the first time i watched fmab i instantly got attached to him i am so happy he is alive. i hope being the king of the yao clan is treating him well though he didn’t look to happy in that one photo of him as emperor….. it’s a tough job so i get it man! i hope he explodes

for edling:

pretty privilege: they are both pretty. brotherhood art style is a bit inconsistent at times i feel but their designs are both so gorgeous (their colors complement one another!). and also the bloodhell episode. ling yao fighting envy with his cool sword and handsome face…. ed somehow still looking pretty despite all the traveling and fighting. they are pretty!!!

don’t typically discuss irl because of fandom: more and more people nowadays seem to forget fma franchise as a whole 🙁 it makes me so sad because this series is so fire and i wish it would keep its popularity but it obviously makes sense that more relevant shows and animes will overtake its light. i’m also afraid most people don’t like edling (edling nation consists of like 10 people) so i just don’t really talk about fma irl at all! no one here has a Fullmetal heart..

everything else is just me wanting to bite them (lovingly) and stuff them in my pocket and hold them in the palm of my hands to show them off to the world. i do not actually want to plot their demise and i am not actively doing so. i would put them in a wood chipper in a loving manner

for ed:

has done nothing wrong: he’s innocent, your honor… everything he’s ever done has been for his family. he’s committed a huge taboo in the alchemy world by trying human transmutation but him and al just wanted their moms back. they were TOO YOUNG TO BE ORPHANS AND HAVE TO GROW UP WITHOUT THEIR MOTHERS LOVE! he ended up becoming a dog for the military but he had to do what he had to do to get closer to that philosopher stone… in 03 he did end up taking some lives too i think. he’s only 15 and never intended to Actually murder someone. seeing him after the greed scene is so incredibly heartbreaking. 03 and cos are such horrific renditions of fma (in a good way) and it makes me so sad to think that’s how he ended up??? he had so much hope as a little kid and was so full of life but by 18 he’s stranded from the last bit of family he knew and is left a depressed alcoholic who keeps losing people. edward elric has done nothing wrong..

there’s probably a deep seated reason why i love him: even from the outside HE IS SUCH A COOL CHARACTER. a character who canonical has prosthetic limbs is already so cool. knowing the story behind those limbs and his brother is so 🙁☹️☹️… his iconic red jacket!!! his LEATHER PANTS WITH HIS PLATFORM BOOTS? his striking gold eyes and bright blonde hair? how he wears his stupid pocket watch…. his dumbass belt… i love edward elric’s flamboyant style so much i’ve never seen a more bi-coded character ever. i love everything about his design and his personality is unlike most shonen anime protags and that adds to his charm. he is hot-headed and will bite your head off if you comment on his height or call him pipsqueak but he is still such a sharp and intelligent young man .. He is literally an Alchemy God…. he is so capable even at such a young age and carries himself so well because if i were him i would be breaking down crying every step of the way! he is dedicated and loyal to his cause of finding the philosophers stone to return their bodies back to normal and doesn’t even hinder once throughout the journey. he loves his brother dearly and it makes me so joyous to see a strong sibling relationship in this genre that isn’t Weird. hi! for the past month i’ve been seeing people say BEN is a child and i think that part of it is linked to the fact that they think of Benjamin Lawman being BEN? but it’s so annoying to read these type of stuff because i understand not everyone read the whole arg story but stop spreading things that aren’t true </3 it’s such an interesting story too! another note do you prefer BEN’s canon or fanon design? :3 i love both but his canon design is so nostalgic i can’t let it go at all omg!! i’ve also been wondering, do you think Ben’s avatar was the statue? i was thinking about what if BEN took over it early on, before Benjamin did making BEN inhabiting it since the start?

Ok this is going under a cut becus . . . Its ben and BEN and if u didnt know i am Obnoxious about these two. Im gonna try to keep it organized a bit, so ill talk about the canon stuff first and then ill talk my personal headcanons and my fic so le's go!

In terms of the age and child thing, yeah i 100% believe you are correct. Ive been p open on my stance with the whole "is ben a child?" thing, and i think a lot of the heat with it comes down to current fandom purity culture and the pro/anti thing. So, lemme try to like. Boil down a complicated situation into smth easy to read. ahem

Ben Lawman and BEN are completely different entities guys, and for those that do not know the arg story, the Ben you know is not human nor a child.

You know BEN, BEN is the one in the story who terrorizes jadusable and spreads himself on the internet as a virus. That BEN is a program, a mess of code, an AI, however you want to interpret it. Personally i interpret it as a series of protocols running in a machine, like a self learning AI, but ive seen lots of cool interpretations of BEN. So . . . What does BEN specifically? Its an anagram for the Behavioral Event Network. If you dont wanna call it BEN cuz it gets confusing with actual kid Ben, do what i do. I call mine Evie :) ive seen some call it Netty, my bf calls his two izzi and clever (@benilos btw hes also got crazy ben stuff). Just go ham! Have fun! Remember when fandoms were about having fun and not accusing each other of pedo shit and call each other horrible things for just writing black-to-grey characters and stories??

Anyways ive gone off in enough peoples tags like this, for those that dont know the canon dont be spouting the age discourse. You look stupid as hell. And for those that are gonna spout it, please dont cherry pick through the canon. Use both characters, use the other moon children, actually please do because I want more rosa content so bad, im down so bad :'(

Or just. Heres a thought. If someone has him as an adult or writes him in adult situations, maybe dont assume that they interpret him as a kid and call the writer a pedo? (Literally has happened to me, yall are fucking weird)

Yes i use more of the canon design and heavily use the canon story, i participated in arc 3 of the arg and it left deep grooves in my brain, i can never go back to fanon Ben. I say, as i put a more fanon appearance on my Ben 🤭

My Evie is full canon design, green hair, red eyes, creepy ass grin. I actually based it very heavily on my desktop wallpaper, which we actually figured out was a picture of @hauntedtotem (also amazing ben artist plz check them out) that they edited and posted. Sorry friend, it looked way too cool, ig youre in my fic canon now 🙇

And my Ben Lawman bleaches his hair and goes from the canon Ben to fanon Ben because of it. Hes got the pale pretty green eyes and glasses and hes a total nerd and i smooch him on the daily so he knows hes loved ♡

As for bens situation in the actual arg, yes i do think he was in the elegy statue, we actually do see him for the first time in the arg buried in the games code and trapped in that statue. I do think he was in there from the beginning, i personally think BEN was not limited to the models it could inhabit. Personally i would place it as skull kid and hms, but it also feels disingenuous to me to say it was in one model the whole first arc.

The arg events do happen in my canon, before my fic (like right before, it picks up after the arg left off technically), but the events are skewed a bit because i had a hard time deciphering what happened and i wanted my fic timeline to fit more with the characters i had made. Cuz my evie isnt as chaotic evil as canon BEN, its very logical and has a path of logic and reason you can follow for every action it does. It was also originally meant to be very pleasant and corteous and beneficial to the people it housed so, yes its pretty different from canon.

Ill do a quick run through of the arg events in my personal headcanon and fic here.

Kelbris starts coding BEN (Evie) for the Eternity Project. Initially, Evie was meant to be an afterlife director. People that died would be digitized into code that would be moved into Evie's servers, where it would keep them happy and occupied as the Behavioral Event Network (notice and log behavior, create events for residents). Like a community organizer kind of, think the Good Place.

While Evie is in development, Ben Rosa and Matt are friends and have yet to join the cult. Rosa and Matt are siblings, and Ben is the kid who lives catty corner on the street. They walk to school together and play at recess and all that jazz.

Kelbris quickly learns that the Eternity Project isn't as goody two-shoes as he thought. This was in like, the 90s, before digital corporations were really established. After seeing the greed and corruption in the company, he goes rogue, takes the source code for Evie, and jumps ship. He keeps working on Evie at home, anthropomorphizing it and kind of seeing it like the son he never had. This is where it actually gets the name BEN, as thats what Kel calls it. He also begins working on a body for it, so it can live independently. Its light, cuz Kels old, made of crystalline structures and hollow steel beams. A hard light projection would make its appearance.

Since Kel has basically locked himself up in his house and isolated working on Evie, he goes a leetle bit crazy. He has hallucinations of his deceased wife (you know he was doing all this just to give her a good home, you KNOW IT) and eventually starts writing kind of poetry, kind of none-minded rambles about her in a forum online. He gets a following, some of which that interpret these divine words as a goddess, one Kel has called Luna. The Moon Children start to form as Evie finishes development.

Matt sees this literature and starts talking about how this Goddess could save them like it saved the man online, whos username is only Father. He gets sucked into the cult and drags Ben and Rosa with him. Ben doesn't see the harm and joins pretty easily with his best friend, but Rosa is the older sibling and sees the red flags and is more resistant to joining.

As Kelbris finishes Evie, he wakes it up for the first time and says hello to the son he made from scratch. Evie is bright, curious and naive like a child, but heavily knowledgeable about its protocols and the information it knows about the world. Kelbris tests its function by killing himself, and ascends into the code, finishing off the hardware by becoming its firewall. Evie is alone for many years.

The abuse Ben's father slings onto his mother is slowly being directed towards him as he gets older. Ben is not the "good little girl" his father sees him as, and his mother does all she can to protect them both. Matt and Rosa constantly refuge him, and Matt specifically is constantly being a guard dog for him. If he wasn't just 13, he'd probably go at Ben's dad himself.

Because of his homelife and the conflict he has with himself, Ben takes the first ascension. He thinks when he drowns himself, he will meet Luna and she will give him another life free of pain and fear and full of happiness and freedom. Instead, he dies a cold, dark death, and wakes up in the white endless void of the Event Network.

Evie has not known another living human since Kelbris, but it does know its protocols to support and keep the deceased happy. It makes fast friends with Ben, devoting itself to him. Ben actually finally takes the name "Ben" from it. Together they recreate the inside of Evie's hivemind into their own paradise.

Slowly the other Moon Children ascend. First Matt, wracked with guilt for what happened to Ben. Then Nekko, from a different branch of the cult. These three figured out that the Moon Children cult was all a farce, and that what Kelbris had started, the Eternity Project had found and twisted. Next to ascend was Dusk, then Insidiae, and finally Rosa.

This all leads into the first arc, shortly after Rosa ascended, Evie in the outisde world stumbled upon the Operator. The Operator attacks it and seals its coding into the game that it carried, a personal item of Ben's. The game eventually finds it's way to a garage sale, and Alex picks it up.

Evie does not like Alex. Matt does not like Evie. Matt gets Evie to lash out at Alex for prodding into its code, its too naive to think that Matt would want to see it or any of them hurt. When Alex stumbles upon the Father, he awakens and swallows Alex down into the game. After his disappearance, the game gets picked up and passed around again.

Because of Alex's actions, at least Evie can now branch out a bit from the game. Though it doesnt "escape" into the internet, it learns that it can now access it and uses that freedom to try and steer the game around into places it wants.

Matt gets fed up with Evie. The fact that its the leader, how close it is with Ben, he just doesn't agree with it. So much so, in fact, that he tries to kill it. Cue arc 3 events, Sarah picks up the game in the aftermath of this. Evie is traumatized from the events and snaps a bit, locks everyone down into code or immovable models and tries to hunt Matt down. It goes rouge, and because of this, the Father wakes up.

Sarah's actions in arc 3 eventually hard reset the game. Matt gets sealed away, the Father also takes Sarah, and Evie gets reset as well, though its less like a clean slate and more like snapping back awake. Its personality changes and it has major trust issues. Its more muted, hyper observant of everything around it, and murderously overprotective of the Moon Children it keeps within itself.

And this leads into my fic 🤗

How bout my less talked about jojo oc Doro

Iv been lookin for an excuse to redo his design, iv never been totally happy with his original look so he's a go again!

Changing his stand from a regular stand to an armor stand. Still works the same, mean to reflect someone deepest desires to the point that they will walk right to it even if they KNOW the stands trick. Once close enough it snaps like an angler fish with the armor equipped with booby traps all over that open up to get their enemy. the inside of Fisherman Blues armor looks like an iron maiden and god knows where Doro's actual body fits, skinny legends fitting it in there somewhere.

As for Doro's character profile, its not much I'v ever dived into like i have others

But Doro is on the younger side of Roxanne's current Hires only being there for a short few years.

Doro and Janelle are friends but the two dont see eye to eye, as when Janelle started scheme to get everyone out of Roxanne's clutches and out of their dangerous work, Doro flat out told her he wanted no part in it. Their close enough that he won't snitch on her or stop her, but he wants nothing to do with it. Janelle may be tired and upset by the reality that has become their work, but Doro knew exactly what some rich fancy woman with hair a foot tall on her head with a law degree was not capable of any kindness. The work does pay as promised at least and so long as it does Doro is content playing punching bag for rich assholes to get off to

Before coming to work for Roxanne, Doro (like most of Roxannes hires) had little money and no connections in the world. Anyone he grew close to, or grew close to him he always hurt. Everyone wants to get close to him, get to know him see who he is, but no one ever wants to stick around once they know him. Roxanne doesnt want to get to know him, Roxanne just wants him to run around in skimpy outfits and flaunt what he has while some big muscle pushes him around in the ring so they can make some big bucks. He gets his work done, he gets to go home so long as he survives and he can do and buy whatever he wants because he has no one who needs to lean on him, he doesnt want people to lean on him or need him. He's alone and its the way he likes it, supporting number one at the bottom of the ladder comfortably.

At least that what he'll tell people. Its probably half truth, and half defeat and acceptance to the way of things. make no friends, make money and leave a hot corpse.

Also to the side of his character, Doro loves Janelle as a coworker, but hates her best friend Mac. Especially because Mac often ask to be put against Doro in the ring (and as one of Roxies favorites he gets what he wants) and its always for the same reason, because despite Doro's ability meaning to show people what they want and drop their guard, what mac see's only makes him fight harder, Doro is sure to get the worst ass kicking when Mac is the one he's fighting because whatever Fisherman Blue's showing him, his gets Mac's blood pumping. He also just hates Mac lol, beyond this he finds the younger man loud and bothersome especially with all his advances of friendship and inviting Doro out constantly to hang out with the other wrestlers.

Hey! Its my birthday today!

To specify, Its not my birthday, but my in-character birthday! Its been about 5 years since I first made our wonderful little bomb here! Which makes it the perfect time to look back at his past designs and talk about how he, and by extension myself, grew over time! Although, Since I myself am bombfolk, Itll be a bit difficult to differentiate between the two. So for that, Hi! This design here will be used from here on to represent my out of character self!

With that, Lets get right to it shall we? A quick pulling back of the curtain to talk about some of the past! Its worth mentioning, With each design, There will be a little sticky note that shows the original drawing of that design, So you can watch how Ive progressed in art-style as well! As a heads up, I'll be rattling off a LOT, you can also just look for yourself and not bother with reading it all, I'll just be pointing out the differences and some small tidbits.

First and foremost! The very first design! As you can tell, It used much duller colors as compared to now, but the shirt design is the same! Alongside that, The bomb part itself is ALSO very different, With a smaller base and MUCH smaller fuse. I went for a more thin design that had five segments back then but as we go along you can see how it changes! Alongside that you can see with the bomb itself, There was no alternate color, It was just straight void-black, same as the borders. As of when I originally made these I actually just straight up used the circle tool for the head, hence why its all one color! We also have the eyes which are considerably smaller and in this iteration eyebrows just sort of appeared when needed!

Next up, A design I am still baffled to this day about, My second iteration, We'll start with the most in your face part, The sun and moon gimmick. So I made this design with the whole idea of my goal of brightening peoples days taken REALLY literally. I was and still am a massive fan of duality in my designs and theming so I was originally gonna make a second character to represent the moon, but I have no idea where that went. In terms of design, We have the collar that was meant to look like the sun and replacing the circuit design with one a sun and moon on the cuffs of the shirt and a wavelength on there as well because white space is not something my brain was a fan of at the time. Also the base of the bomb was smaller than that of the first design, However the it makes the fuse look bigger so a step in the right direction. For the coloring, It was much more vibrant, I actually have kept some colors in my current design as you can see with my shirt's base color. Eyes were still quite small and a smidge duller than the shirt itself, For the bomb part itself, I used a gradient which led to this shade of grey. The fuse however, was shortened to 3 segments but also just the colors were inverted, Likely because the first segment in the fuse was originally brown and I just removed that segment at the time

Next up, The third iteration of the design! The base of the bomb got a bit larger this time, and its quite blatant that this design feels way TALLER than the others. Thats mainly because I ended up focusing on making the character feel more slim. Unfortunately the experiment made him look uncannily tall. Other than that, The sun and moon gimmick was dialed back a bit, Although the MOON IS PURPLE FOR SOME REASON It also swapped places with the sun. This iteration did make quite a few lasting changes though! First being that it coined the face changing color with emotion gimmick, As well as finally figuring out what color the bomb part is, Sticking to a nice navy (Which is specifically called "Valhalla" by the way!). The fuse follows suit, Inverting its colors to look much nicer in my opinion! The shirt was turned into a minty color, As well as the pants with a VERY vibrant ocean-y blue! I still cease to understand why I decided to put a logo on the shirt, Like you weren't able to tell who it is by just looking at the bomb.

Regardless, We bring ourselves to the current form of the design! The base of the bomb is now much larger, even moreso than that of the original iteration, And we've gone back to the original hoodie design, integrating it with the color gimmick from the previous iteration! Alongside that, The fuse is quite noticably bigger compared to all the others and hangs back a bit more, Usually behind my head. I've also decidedly made the eyes and face much bigger, usually taking up a good amount of space, It gives a much more cartoony feel that I like going for! The design also takes more chibi elements, Mainly stubby arms and legs alongside a pretty large head! Finally, I've finally decided to give the shoes a bit more of an interesting design, inspired by the boots of the Mario bros.

Well, thats all for going through the past designs of myself, I always find it fun looking back and appreciating where I came from and how much I've grown, Especially since I can remember a good deal of life events that occurred during the time of each iteration, Its a sweet way of remembering all the great things and fun times that have happened over the years. one thing that's been bothering me for a few years now is how i basically have 2 types of ocs: ones that are pretty much entirely original, and ones that are very obviously inspired by media i like. it's that second category that's been bothering me, and i just... feel the need to finally put it into words.

it's no secret that i'm incredibly passionate about the media and characters i like, especially if you're someone that knows me closely and/or talks to me a lot. so sometimes when making ocs i just go 'ooh i should make one that's like this character i like', and i think that's normal. characters people like often have traits they find to be interesting, and those traits can easily be spun in many different ways.

however, there are quite a good chunk of my ocs that i think are a bit too... derivative. and i have no clue how to make them not feel that way, both because me and my friends who i do oc stuff with all already know what the inspirations were and because i feel way too attached to make any major changes.

it kinda started as a joke. a few years back when i was in an active rp community (a story for another time (never)), and thought 'hey it'd be funny if i made some ocs that were just bootleg touhou characters since all my friends know im obsessed with the series lol' (this was technically not the first time i had done something like this, but the previous characters had very rapidly separated themselves from their inspirations in all but general appearance and/or color scheme). and so i did. and it was great, i had a lot of fun taking them and spinning them in a different direction, trying to subvert the mold i had made them from.

however. i quickly began to feel just... really conflicted about these characters. i REALLY liked them, and i still do, i think some of them are some of my most fun characters, but... can i really call them my characters when they're so heavily inspired by something else? even if they're different enough, it didn't matter. you could still tell (or i could, at least). and i couldn't bring myself to massively change anything about them because... they were already cemented into my mind. it felt wrong.

even now, having redesigned basically all the characters i have that fit into this category at least once i just... can't help but feel conflicted about most of them. and i kind of can't escape doing this, even with new ocs (example: i recently made a character based off of a japanese mythological figure, and all i could think about when designing them was the touhou character also based off of that mythological figure... and it definitely shaped the design a lot).

i... don't know what point im trying to make here. or if this is even coherent, or something i should be all too concerned about at all, or something other people have even noticed.

i guess what im trying to say is i was gonna post some redesigns ive been working on for like two weeks but im kinda too scared to because i feel like all the characters are very obviously derivative and it's making me feel really... well, conflicted.

scarab is my quote "bitch wife" aka i've selfshipped with him for so long he's become my fp which is...not really a good thing but hey! shows he's very fundamental to my life. guh where do i begin, scrabs is a very very interesting character in the way he is initially presented as a threat slowly gets broken down over the course of the show. i also like that he's not really well liked by most other cosmic entities, though we really only see him interacting with prismo and orbo.. he's REALLY petty and stuck up and i love that about him, like genuinley he is SUCH a prick about evreything that i kind of understand why orbo brushed him off when he was trying to explain the illegal shit prismo was doing, which holy shit i need to know what the fuck their beef is aside from scrab want time room he want power. but I also would not be upset if his grudge against the wishmaster was just that shallow. he's just,,, an absolute masterpiece of a villain being so terrifying to our protags yet so EASILY THWARTED, like... wk trapped that bitch in ice and all he could do was yell about a bunch of empty threats at cake briefly [which like... he has telepathy i guess??] Scarab is a very "aesthetic first practicality next" type of guy, slowly taking his time hunting them down and being theatrical when he finally found them in farmworld, [only to be flung by Finn like that bitch weighed nothing.] and i just,,,, i love the duality of his nature between this regal, clean, poise creature he tries to make himself out to be and the screaming little idiot he really is underneath, i've gone off about it before but i am in love with his character design [as well as everything else about him..] and it shows his duality so so perfectly even if his anatomy is hard to understand at times he gets a pass for being a shapeshifter. Its just so comical to me this arguably scary guy that you do not want to be a target of is also just .. this very disliked dude by all his co-workers, like he’s,,, he;s just a bitch that's the best way i can put it, he is a very egotistical freak who is very dedicated to his job to the point of arresting people for arguably minor offenses… please don’t tell my wife that i pirate shows.. I also think its interesting he relies on his crystal despite displaying extreme feats of strength [collapsed a building just via slamming his body into it, grabbing a huge chunk of pavement, ect..] i mean it makes sense as its a multitool and needed to complete his job [which i could go on a whole other rant about how his crystal is so interesting in itself as a piece of tech] but it's  so interesting as he displays some very interesting combat like..he could kick people's asses very easily but he’s too focused on theatrics, like he’s so desperate to be menacing.. IM PUTTING IN MY TWO CENTS HERE because I think the entire conversation about why people choose certain potions and routes within non-linear choice based game,s, or any game that provides some level of illusion of choice. I remember talking about this extensively in my Psychology class for Game Design, and though of course theres a multitude of reasoning, I think what peoples idea of fantasy or even coping is largely at play. I know one of your thoughts on playing questionable or morally challenging characters is because you already conform to a societal expectation to "be nice" or an upstanding citizen, and Honestly thats super understandable! Im not here to analyze anyone, but a good chunk of other people I talk to have some sort of revenge fantasy and I dont mean that in a bad way! Rebellion to rules that plague reality and the ability to let lose, or just an interest in consequences for your playthrough that dont actually affect you is another reasoning, albeit the rarer of the two options. On the otherhand, as someone who loves to make The Most Morally Good Characters, and is also a big baby when it comes to being mean in most video games, My "revenge fantasy" IS being nice, because we are all forced to tiptoe around the same sociteal expectations but even those on the other side dont have much power in helping people on a larger scale that video games allow! To be The Hero that helps as many people as possible, that has to power to fundamentally change the world for the better, that is a unrealistic reward of its own. And I know you also mentioned briefly how you see it as limiting, and I think to some people this might ring true of them allowing themselves to cave and actually enjoy the "morally questionable" decision making, however I think for the other half its not limiting? Its Highly Rewarding. Theres also something to mention in how Linear people are themselves, its much more common to hear about people replaying one exact route despite there being 100000s choices vs those who do every route imaginable, so the more likely someone is to lean one side esp in their initial playthrough, the less likely they are to want to go the other way. I HOPE THIS DOESNT COME OFF AS LIKE...A REBUTTAL, Its not! I think this is a genuinely facinating phenomenon that ive had to think and write about in school, theres so many layers to it Id love to discuss and love to HEAR discusssed so youre so smart for actually starting that poll bc Ive been enjoying searching through the replies of it

And I think your points are really cogent and in line with what I've kinda been angling at, which is that they're two sides of the same coin of "indulging in a fantasy." And it probably makes me a bit of a hypocrite that I'm like "I just don't get why other people can't see the appeal of Doing Bad Things as an escapist fantasy!" even though I would also say with my whole chest that being the big damn hero who saves everyone and changes the world for the better holds absolutely zero appeal to me LOL It is truly just a matter of taste.

It's probably beyond the scope of a tumblr poll but I feel like an interesting follow-up re: people not choosing to behave badly in games, would be to ask people why. Like there's the obvious "it's usually not written as well/doesn't let you have the full game experience" reason which is valid, but of the remainder I wonder how many people would honestly say it's just not fun to be mean, and how many would admit that it makes them uncomfortable because they still feel the need to conform to societal standards even in their fantasy world. I think this is actually why the only game I like being morally questionable in is fnv, bc both "choices" actually present interesting outcomes. Theres also something to say how in games the good side rewards more which I think is stupid.

ok i will ramble abt my ocs as promised

so long story short how i thought of them is. i saw the word digital somewhere on a sign and i misread it as digigal so uh. hey can you tell where this is going (no) anyway . so in this world i have created theres like this company called DigiPal that makes robot friends and usually theyre acessible to some extent..? like you can rent one i guess. most use digipals as like temporary friends?? or as caretakers . yeah those exist! they can also be customized for certain tasks / objectives and also visually customized (i literally cannot think of a better way to put that im so sorry) but theyre like REALLY REALLY expensive that way

so ANYWAY this girl. i do not know her name. but on a whim in a depressive spiral she. buys one. and she fully customizes it too. yes this part is important beAR WITH ME ;_; and usually a fully customized digipal takes +3 months to code/manufacture and she wholeheartedly believed shed be in her apartment alone for her indefinite future. i dunno what went thru her brain honestly but i guess she did that. wow im talking about an oc like its not my own character!! so fun! ok yea

so. actually i have no idea how to explain this part. uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh BASICALLY the digipal has 2 sets of code- their like example-based programming and an a.i learning type thing. i guess you could think of it like chara.cter ai?? but yeah something with this digipal's a.i got Fucky and basically forced the human manufacturers to give it a more feminine body. ok now do u see where im going with this.

so while this digipal (who calls herself digigal now) is shipped to this girl's apartment, she (the girl) gets a roommate (who i have in my notes as roommate. none of these girls have got names!!!) and by this point which is like 4 months later, the girl is doing better off now that she has her roommate and they help each other its a mutual benefit and also theyre basically dating but neither of them know it !! OK back to digigal who i keep calling digigirl in my head. ive also been calling her digi so. yeah anyway digi arrives in this MASSIVE box and the roommate opens the door to their apartment and is like ??? what the hell is this thing and the girl is liike I CAN EXPLAIN. anyway all 3 of them eventually get into a loving relationship w each other :D!

ok basically my thought process went: digigal -> oh fun! robot girl :) -> what if she was a robot GIRLFRIEND -> wait what if she was trans. wait how do i get to that. -> wait what if she had TWO girlfriends AND HERE WE ARE. ok heres what they look like!! first is digi, second is the roommate, and last one is the girl (i need names for them aaaaaaaaaaaa)

Chimata if you feel like it!

General opinion/How much I care about them: i dont remember if it was really soon after or if it took some time for it all to click, but i've really come to adore all of th18's cast, and that includes that Chimata who has one of the best designs ever and I am being completely sincere! 🌈 i love everything about her. Her concept as a god of markets and how that was clearly inspired by real life doujin conventions yet still making it make sense in the setting of touhou, and her personal journey of rising back up to power thanks to the really complicated connection she's struck up with Megumu is so compelling and instantly had me and so many other fans running hamster wheels in our brains for years to come...

Also the majority of her dialogue is just really really funny, between bragging about how amazing markets are (She's right) or getting so offended when the player characters insult her card... She's kind of a mess even moreso than the usual touhou character, and that she's also a final boss and super powerful god makes a fun contrast i like a lot.

A ship I love: the obvious one is chimata/megumu though its a bit weird to talk about in this context because personally what i love about the marketeer quartet polycule is how Megumu is at the center and how the other three reflect and bring out different aspects of her (Although at the same time i also think Tsukasa can easily be the 'center' pov if needed to, because they all think the scheming tube fox is cute!). Going into detail on all that would probably steer the topic away from Chimata too much so i'll just say for now that I think Chimata and Megumu, without either really meaning to, brought the 'best' out of each other. Its just that their 'best' in this case meant giving them the means and confidence to take everything for themselves 😄

(also kind of a tangent but ive also always kinda thought megumu/chimata is similar in superficial ways to how i see yachie/keiki from just the previous game maybe with the dynamics reversed a little. But then following on that thought, momoyo is kinda similar to saki, and then i have no choice but to say tsukasa like some inverse mayumi... Its just nonsense but its funny to me think about)

A non-romantic relationship that I love: as of right now, she's gotta be reeeeeally ticked at Marisa right? Chimata had gotten over that whole thing of attacking her market as a robber and turning her bedridden, but then the stuff with the black markets had Marisa being trusted to stop them and then putting it off to enjoy collecting cards instead 😂

But despite all of that, I think Chimata ultimately would still acknowledge that avariciously human spirit which is vital in those who seek to do exchange, and will probably take Marisa off her personal market banlist eventually....

The NOTP: I actually think Chimata would get along surprisingly well with Momoyo but ive no desire to make something romantic out of it. although... maybe if megumu was somehow their driving motivation???

My biggest headcanon about them: i actually dont have anything too substantial this moment if only because her actual canon has been already so substantial and fulfilling... Though i think after becoming bedridden after UM's ending, she was resting at Megumu's place and was helping herself to the fridge and stuff without any hesitation or remorse 😊

An idea for a fanfiction I would like to write/read about them: well i'll just say for now that i definitely want to do a specific story featuring the market quartet sometime.

anyhow, something about her makes me feel like shes a prime candidate for those AUs where she swaps roles with another character (like megumu or kanako) yet somehow retains mostly the exact same personality and mannerisms.

the sphinx experience

for the longest time, ive always had the dream of dressed up as a four legged sphinx character with specific built in features for me to be able to move fully, not entirely naturally, but enough for me to look like some mythical fantasy creature. i dont know why. id design the character myself, build the suit tailored to my body, and id do whatever crazy shit i could think of as soon as i put it on

since i was a little kid ive always wanted to act like some feral animal, usually i wanted to be a werewolf. i used to try out those werewolf spells on youtube, specifically the ones that required you to say things like "mote it be" at the end of them like that was such a specific thing for werewolf spells back then. idk if people still do them. when i was 16 (maybe 17?) my psychosis got so bad that i started believing i actually WAS a wolf. im pretty sure it was clinical lycanthropy. ive recovered from that ever since

but ever since ive always had this lingering need to get on all fours and act animalistic; i have never been satisfied in my own body but over the years i "adapted" specific traits that animals do. its kind of weird. i try flexing my ears like a dog, i tuck my arms under my chest like a cat, etc. again. really odd but not in a bad way. odd in a "oh this is something hero would do" kind of way (if that makes sense). anything animalistic has also given me tons of gender euphoria, ESPECIALLY if its sphinx related. explaining my obsession with sphinxes and how important they are to me is a whole nother can of worms but they are super important to my entire identity in ways that i never thought were possible. and its funny i say all of this because like... im not otherkin, or a therian. i am a furry though but i dont really think that counts (?). my connection with sphinxes is just a weird personal experience thats not too serious but also still super important to me as a person

and i always think to myself, what would it be like to be these creatures?? how would i feel walking on all fours? people would think its weird, people think anything out of the ordinary is weird, and it IS weird. but they think its a bad weird. i think its a good and fun weird. and its something that id really wanna try one day. of course id have to get fit for it if i really wanted to get in full costume, and its not just a quadsuit kinda thing. im talkin about running, jumping, etc etc, getting super active for the hell of it. i wanna get the full body experience of what it would be like to be wild, feral, and FREE. i still want some of my humanity attached, hence why itd be a sphinx character id base said costume off of

this is more of a haha funny thing but halloween is coming up, even if i wouldnt have it ready in time (i doubt id even have materials to make it myself) but i think chasing after people on halloween late at night would be hilarious

ok. havent updated in a bit but talking to myself. yeah. im very good at that. reminder that there's no rush to progress and things take time first of all Carly!

but anyways. first!) i've gotten a lot more character designs and motivations fleshed out but i can admit some routes definitely have a bit more poored into them than others atm and thats something im trying to fix. not force. just... add a lil something more yknow. bcuz there ARE many pieces of media like that where you can tell that a creator just had more care for one thing than the other and I dont at any point want to come across that way bcuz i do genuinely love all these characters, and I think they each deserve to be enjoyed and loved by someone that isnt just me! so I want other ppl to feel the love as well through ALL routes! not just a "Oh you can tell these handful of characters are the creators faves" So essentially not favoring certain kids over others like good parents would lol

secondly) I've started properly separating routes in different documents... lol. I'll be honest I had EVERYTHING. and i mean EVERYTHING all stored in one document. Names, notes on things, character bgs, clothing inspo AND the actual routes all on one big document. at some point i was like ok there needs to be some separation here. OBVIOUSLY. so I did that, and now i'll be able to actually say like "Oh Reapers Route is now currently at _thousand words making good progress there :)"

but yeah. theyre separated by:- -a document just for writing tips/advice/things to remember -a document just for character profiles (what they like, family bg, info like that etc etc.) -a document just for route plans. like an outline ig. briefly with notes like ok I want X character to have X arc, and X happens and progresses enough until they get to X -separate routes for each character in a diff document -and then just a main document to fall back on and compare notes or there's a few extra things there. like for example, im still not sure on some names. In this doc there's a section just for me to look at a long list of names i've saved to mull on later. :)

I know is not good, but that's been my process while working on the game and most things. -I share a little tidbit (but not too much with friends or mutuals. -They express interest or tell me abt which characters they feel drawn too -I feel good and want to keep working harder! its like that and lastly) concerning things going on with the relationship between creators and other ppls entitlement to their OCs (which i will not name directly), that is something ive talked abt in depth in private but I would like to at least put this down somewhere one day in case anyone finds it. Please do not treat my OCs like they are yours. its much different as a small indie creator to have characters than to claim a character from a big company game or series is your OC. I'd feel so bad if people overlooked what I say and cross boundaries
