Todays rip: 30/06/2023
vlEP
Season 2 / Season 7
Featured on: The SiIvaGunner Christmas Comeback Crisis – Original Soundtrack
Arranged by dante
Part of Voiceless Week!
Today's rip is a pretty perculiar one, as according to its composer, dante, it was actually made sometime during Season 2/3, several years before its official upload in Season 7. Created as part of a general sound library for the CCC, it never actually got the opportunity to be used until Episode 6 later had to be reworked due to music copyright issues. After the reworked Episode 6 featured Vlep in it, it got officially uploaded on the channel. Funny enough, I'm pretty sure its the most recent instance of voiceless showing up on the channel because of that.
At the same time, through its placement in Episode 6, it also becomes the FIRST instance of the track in the chronology of the channel. Though only part of the full arrangement gets used, and though the arrangement doesn't cover voiceless in its entirety, its enough to plant the seeds of a leitmotief - the calm before the storm two episodes later. It fits the scene it was placed in like a glove specifically due to that context, as a moment of intense yet calm strategizing before the raid on the North Pole (Seriously, go watch the CCC if you haven't!!)
The arrangement itself gave me chills the first time I heard it in a way I wasn't really expecting, given I never had the opportunity to hear it in its original context for the first time. Its almost certainly due to dante's touch here as the CCCs overall audio director, that the track feels so perfectly adapted, preserving both the CCCs sound and the sound of the original track in a perfect balance. The original track's feeling of anger and strife is turned into something hopeful and inspiring in a way that just...works!
I'm trying to find a way to talk about this track without just going in circles celebrating dante, but its hard for me not to!! He's sat in my own list of personal favorite rippers for longer than I can remember, and it blows me away that stuff he worked on over five years ago can still sound so effortlessly modern and high quality.
