OOOOOOOOOH YESYESYESYES I WOULD LOVE TO INFODUMP ABOUT LOS CAMP LYRICS
okay okay so first of all. this band is so good. they have so many banger ass songs and that cannot be denied. HOWEVER in my heart To Tundra will always reign supreme. like holy shit. it's got lyrics like "meet me at st. nicholas among the oaks, behind the church that sway like pig-tailed girls as summer wind whistles around your bare-skin knees and the forsythia leaves" and "we take on the burden of all these sad-eyed children with lilies bunched in our hands" like. those lyrics are so visceral and potent they literally leave me with my mouth hanging wide open after i hear them. oh my GOD that song is magical
some of my other favorite songs lyrically is OBVIOUSLY tiptoe through the true bits. that's the song that whenever i hear it i have to stop literally everything i'm doing, turn up the volume as loud as it will go, close my eyes and just absorb the Vibes. it's so gorgeous AHHHHHH. the bit that makes my heart go !!!!!! is the part where it goes "the bed-spread decked in suns and moons and symbols of the star-signs, how you read how mine applied to how I would be sex-wise." like that paired with the little guitar picking up in the back and the drums kicking in are SO GOOD AHHHHHHHHHHHHH
AND. IN MEDIA RES. that song changed my life genuinely. like WOW. the whole vibe of it, especially the end when the trumpets (i think they're trumpets at least) kick in and gareth goes "if you were given the option of dying painlessly in peace at 45 with a lover at your side, after a full and happy life, is this something that would interest you? would this interest you at all?" like WOW what an existential crisis moment while you feel like you're running through a rainy field. man that hits yknow
ALSO i am emotionally attached to Documented Minor Emotional Breakdown #4. i dont know why but the first time i ever heard it my brain latched its claws onto it and now it wont fucking let go. so whenever i hear the guitar at the beginning i am Legally Obligated to belt out at the top of my lungs "I RESTORED YOUR MOTHER'S FAITH IN MEN WHILST BORING YOU TO DEATH LEFT NOTHING MORE THAN A CIRCLE OF STUBBLE RASH AROUND YOUR CHEST--"
AND!!!!!!!!! for flotsam also has a very special place in my heart. i love the lyrics in that one, particularly "summer of odd-numbered year" like. MY GUYS YOU ARE SO CREATIVE???? all of your football metaphors to describe your boredom and emotions. like i don't watch football but you go guys i think its so kickass. i love you los campesinos. also the bit where they go "flotsam, jetsam, and spindrift, all the girls i have loved, dumped to earth by a spendthrift, gilt angels from above" with the "aaaahhh" in the back and the very faint piano in the background that i can only hear when i'm listening to it with my gaming headphones on bc my gaming headphones have really good mid range. just AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH
AND WHAT DEATH LEAVES BEHIND TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 fun little fact this was the first song that i listened to when i first decided to listen to their discography all the way through. and let's just say that was a VERY good start because i was very impressed right off the bat. like "i was the first match struck at the first cremation, you are my shallow grave, I'll tend you as a sexton, if you're the casket door that's being slammed upon me, i'll be a plague cross painted on your naked body" LIKE HOLY SHIT. THATS SO EVOCATIVE. HOW DO YOU USE SO MANY METAPHORS AND BIG WORDS. THEYRE SO GOOD AT WORDS. i love listening to this one because it is so lyrically complex and yet it all goes together so well auuugghhhhhhhh
also since i started university recently, hung empty rings very near and dear to my heart. like the bit in the bridge that goes "my vision is fading, it's blurry, there are fingerprints all over the sun, we're glad to be loved but we're lonely and we feel like we're the only ones." like. that's the experience of moving out right there!!! i don't know where the fuck i am and i'm so lonely but it feels so bright and new and cinematic. this song Gets me on the most fundemental level it feels so very College-Esque
ALSOOOOOOO she crows!!!!!!!!!!!11 i LOVE she crows. someone inject this song into my veins Right This Fucking Instant. i need to live and breathe this song right now. just the instrumentals combined with the anthemic feel of the song really seals the feeling of looking back on your life and all of your mistakes and acknowledging that all of them brought you to where you are now. especially the end bit, i don't know why, but when it goes "big tip for the pretty girl waiting the IHOP, these blank napkins/unwritten suicide notes, it's dark inside these eyelids, blacker than the ink (squid)" it really feels like the end of the day. these are the lyrics that buzz like caffiene in your veins as you sit outside a dutchbros at eleven pm surrounded by the only people you feel like you can be yourself around. it's the feeling of cold biting at your skin while your heart feels warm and full. it feels like an open finale, the first time you smile in a long time, an acceptance of the complex beauty of life, that unforgettable moment when you realize that you wouldn't trade who you've become for the world
and CODA A BURN SCAR IN THE SHAPE OF THE SOONER STATE. I LOVE CODA SO MUCH AGH. PERFECT CRYING IN THE SHOWER SONG. like the lyric "an artist's impression of the manhattan skyline" will get me fucking SOBBING immediately. it feels like watching the world move on without you, the world a blur as you crumple inward under the weight of your emotions, a collapsing star in an endless void. and then obviously "i can't believe i chose the mountains every time you chose the sea" WOAH the SYMBOLISM i will just pass away right here in my dormitory with my headphones on. no sorry professor i can't write my essay i am unwell about the romance is boring album again. sorry yeah i'll be unavailable for 3-5 buisness weeks

motion: How does your OC move? How does their clothing help or hinder their range of motion? Are they flexible, coordinated, clumsy?
Minovae is surprisingly graceful for someone almost always in armor. She strides with purpose and moves around people like water, hardly ever bumping into anyone. Most would expect a heavily armored knight to be clumsy or a bull in a china shop, but Hellknights can sleep in their armor. They wear it all day and train in it, adopting it as a second skin. Mendevian/Crusader Paladins in comparison are like dirigibles next to a sleek fighter jet. [In game, the dexterity cap penalty for heavy armor is ultimately negated by fighter/HK levels whereas Paladin doesn't get that!]
There is more to it though: Mino fights like the battlefield is a dancefloor. She always has, too. Her movements seem extraneous. Too elaborate. Flourishes where they most definitely aren't needed. Her footwork is elegant and complex, but natural. She fights, honestly, like she is in the middle of a ballroom dance that is completely improv yet she has internalized all of the possible movements to.
The old bard habits never fell completely away from her, and she makes for a curious sight in battle: decked head to toe in heavy dark plate, wielding a spiked shield and hammer, yet each step is as light and each turn as flowy as if she were wearing chiffon and heels. This becomes the basis of her Paradox mythic powers too! Leaning on her old bard abilities to channel her power into movement and subtle lyrical humming, she can actually force the battlefield into a performance of sorts! Her allies are graced with increased speed and intuition of where everyone else is at all times, making them work together effortlessly as if they were all practiced performers that've been doing this since birth; complete harmony. Meanwhile, her enemies are all hampered like they're slowed, and disharmony makes them trip all over each other, clumsy and unable to coordinate in any way.

Show Review
The audience was waiting impatiently for the main act of the evening to arrive on the dimly lit stage in the Rose Theatre at Endicott College, with excitement in the air like electricity. The stage was prepared, decked out with a variety of instruments such as gorgeous drum sets, a guitar, and a stool with a mic, waiting for Andrew Gagne and Henning Reinholdt's musical skills to bring it to life. The small yet glowing crowd of about 40 viewers cheered as the lights went down even lower, indicating the start of an incredible performance. The first set, my favorite, is a mashup of Mac-Miller songs which the band can articulate so well. Normally, a mashup of rap songs the band has put an acoustic twist on to indulge in the hip-hop lyrical style with an acoustic touch. Gagne commanded attention with his mysterious demeanor and voice that could move mountains. Gagne and Reinholdt showed off their unquestionable talent right away, launching into their set with the explosive energy of a sonic tidal wave.
 Reinholdt's drumming provided The performance's pulse, which advanced the rhythm with unwavering accuracy. His booming rhythms echoed throughout the arena, creating the ideal atmosphere for Gagne's breathtaking vocals to soar. Gagne and Reinholdt had an obvious chemistry; they fed off each other's vitality to produce a musical masterpiece that was symbiotic. The performance reached new heights as a result of their flawless synchronization and intuitive grasp of each other's craft; it went beyond just playing music to become pure magic. 
Gagne's dynamic vocal range came to the forefront as the evening went on. With an agility that astounded the audience, he transitioned from soulful croons to electrifying falsettos. Every lyric was brimming with emotion, expressing a profundity of feelings that touched every listener deeply. But their unquestionable stage presence was just as captivating to the audience as Gagne's vocals. Gagne demanded attention from the audience with his magnetic charisma with every move, keeping them spellbound until the very last note faded into the night. Reinholdt's drumming, meanwhile, never ceased to amaze, exhibiting a versatility that spanned from nuanced subtlety to explosive power. His complex rhythms gave each song layers of depth and created a soundscape that embraced the listener sonically. 
Gagne and Reinholdt transported the audience through a rainbow of feelings, from the euphoric peaks of catchy choruses to the reflective valleys of heartfelt ballads. Every song was an expression of their skill and their capacity to write music that touched people deeply. The audience erupted in thunderous applause as the evening's final notes reverberated throughout the venue, a testament to the performance's profound impact on them. For those fortunate enough to be present, it was a night they would never forget, a night when music became something truly extraordinary rather than just the norm. 
Let me sum up by saying that Gagne and Reinholdt gave a professional performance. With their unmatched talent and captivating stage presence, they established themselves as genuine musical virtuosos, capable of touching audiences in ways they never imagined possible. Do not pass up the opportunity to see them perform live; it will be an experience of a lifetime.

Hello! It’s been a couple weeks but I’m back with a new PAC! I will be going back to school the day after I post this, but I’ll still try my best to squeeze in time for putting out PACs for everyone here. I feel like it’ll really help me with time management and stability as well, so I really wanted to get this one in before chaos, I mean…… fun….. ensues.
I also just wanted to share that this is my first time getting drained before I could even finish the whole process for a reading. I had to get some rest before I could even get started on the third pile! But I guess that’s a given since this particular reading is a little more complex compared to the last two I put out. Do you have empire dating headcanons? How do they date if pda is tabooed? I’m also remembering an idea where imperials don’t start using first names until they’re married. Idk if that was canon or just Quinn.
 I think that might only be Quinn but I am more than happy for it to be a standard practice because honestly it sounds hilarious.
As to dating? I think there’s some in-game support for arrangements, both marriages and “you should meet this person”, in some of the NPC dialogue in Kaas City. (I don’t know if it’s still there, haven’t played the game in donkey’s).
So there would likely be formal meetings or meeting in a social situation, think salons, or work-dos, or Auntie-Darth-So-and-So is having her annual Running of the Slaves and General BigDeal’s daughter will be there, wink-wink nudge-nudge.
After the meeting and if the couple hits it off, there might be very proper dinners (I like to imagine Kaas City has a thriving restaurant scene), evenings out to the theatre*, or if you’re a bit younger, going clubbing (dance clubs, not beatings).
Due to the high level of military service in the Empire (pretty much everyone has some degree of training, so even the shelf-stackers in Space Boots can field strip and fire a blaster; this does also mean there’s a trifle less harassment of shop staff), however, being physically together isn’t always possible, so sexting is a big thing, and so are hook-up apps. So if you’re not the kind to fuck co-workers on the tin can you call home, put your details in Space Tinder, chat with like-minded people on other ships and stations and should you actually manage to meet up, that’s what the storage unit on Deck Three’s for.
The height of “I want to be serious with you” is spending shore leave together or watching the fireworks during the one time of the year the storms let up enough you can actually see them. This is true of both romantic couples and people who are friends.
Of course if your family doesn’t approve of your new squeeze or your previously arrange marriage partner decides no, actually, we’re going through with this contractual obligation, you might find yourself Struck by the former and having to bribe the latter if you can’t talk your way into a better arrangement. And for a fair number of people, just being disowned and out of pocket is the best outcome. However arranged marriages are less common and less strict the lower down the classes you go, particularly if there’s no Force Sensitivity involved.
But I digress. It’s all very proper, arms-linked, walking through the park and talking about holidays and hobbies and the War (because the Empire’s always at war, it’s a military industrial complex that grew a culture like a fungus), and while you might be raw dog fucking in the closed-top speeder, it takes a while to get to the “peck on the cheek and blush” phase.
This does not necessarily mean that the resulting relationships and marriages are what we might like to imagine ourselves having, and can become loveless and cold with a “do it for the kids” bent. Absence makes the heart grow fonder is a normal thing in the Empire, so you take opposite-wise postings in the Galaxy and sext like it’s your first night on Space Tinder, then hookup in the laundry room because the storage room is full.
*not all theatre is high-brow and neither’s the opera. Someone’s got to think u alternative lyrics to marching songs. And it’s actually a great way of explaining the ever shifting state of Sith political relationships, think Shakespeare but people actually get it’s 50% fart jokes.

Hello! May I ask headcanons for Kiseki no Sedai? Their reaction to their girl being cool and sexually dancing (something like k-pop girl group cover dance, if you know it) with her dance team at a school festival (or something like that).
A/N: Since my character limit is five I chose to do hcs for Akashi, Aomine, Kise, Murasakibara and Midorima, hope that’s fine with you! I immediately thought of Loona’s dance cover of Cherry Bomb by NCT 127 (https://youtu.be/s7kxoMYg3l8) which is so BADASS (both the song and choreography) and Move by Taemin (inspired by Twice’s cover: https://youtu.be/QTfzryUBlO0). Reader is in a group that dances to both in one set! Also I’m assuming the reader is in the school’s dance club/group that decided to do a cover of a lit K-pop song for some kind of school festival!

You’re Akashi fucking Seijuro’s girlfriend - he has high standards and probably would date someone who is equally as hardworking + high achieving as him 
Besides, outside of basketball he knows Rakuzan has an equally formidable dance program so the boy knows you are talented
Is so impressed when you start dancing to Cherry Bomb - the choreography is intense and requires so much synchronization as you switch between all the complex formations - he thinks you could teach the basketball team a thing or two about teamwork
You go HARD with the tutting at the end before you start doing edging your feet out until you’re almost doing the splits - Akashi respects how much strength and training went into performing the dance break + ending flawlessly
When the music changes to Move he is STARING at you - eyes are glued to your form as you perform
The moves are so sensual and he can see how you intensely look out into the audience - he can sense the sexual tension that fills the room 
At the same time is awed by how much control you have over your body - he can see how every movement is planned, from the position of your hands to the way you shift your weight between each dance move
As your hands glide along your body, he can’t help but get slightly turned on
Also glares at all the male members of the student body who are looking at you a little too intently
When you finish your set he calmly hands you a water bottle while smiling proudly
May ask you for a private encore later
Aomine Daiki
You mention the performance in passing, probably while you and Aomine are having lunch on the roof 
Despite his nonchalant response, Aomine remembers that you’re performing in the back of his mind - although he does get the occasional reminder from Momoi or teasing remark from Imayoshi 
Doesn’t really want to get too involved in the school festival - it’s far too rowdy and he thinks the idea his class came up with for the festival is a hassle (imagine if it was a butler cafe LMAO poor Aomine) 
Probably sneaks away from his shift managing his classroom’s booth or to find you and wish you luck (or uses you as an excuse to ditch his shift for a couple of minutes)
He knows you’re good at dance - he’s seen how many hours you spend rehearsing and how much you love dancing (and Kpop) 
Will sneak into the auditorium and probably stand in the middle of the crowd - probably doesn’t see the point of cramming in the crowded area right in front of the stage
Impatiently waits for you to come up on stage, he’s bored and is sick of the skits that other groups are putting on 
When it’s finally your turn he’s focusing intently on the stage. The instant you come out in a badass outfit with dark makeup and a black crop top he grins because you look AMAZING
The music starts and you launch into an intense sequence of tutting and formations shifts that has his eyes widening in surprise 
now he understands why you always felt the need to drill the choreography into your muscle memory, because remembering moves on top of switching spots with everyone else makes the performance that much more impressive
Proud of his badass girlfriend
When Move comes on he smirks - although you can’t see him, he watches you move your hips and trace the outline of your figure 
Can appreciate the sensual yet serious expression on your face that makes you look gorgeous, but definitely does not appreciate the dumbass boys in the audience who are drooling over your body 
After the performance he finds you and kisses you before wrapping his arm around your shoulders
Scowling at the now intimidated boys from before, he says “Gotta remind those idiots that you’re mine”
Will definitely invite you over to his place to spend the night for some “quality time” 
Kise Ryouta
Kise knows you’ll be performing a kpop dance at the school festival and is super excited
He probably helped style you and your team for each song - pulling out some leather jackets and ripped jeans for Cherry Bomb and picking out a diverse all black ensemble + accessories for your cover of Move
He hypes you up all day about the showcase: sends you good luck texts and gives you a hug before you have to go backstage + will keep you company when you do your make up before hand
Is not afraid to elbow his way through the audience so he can have a front row seat to your performance
Made the entire Kaijo basketball team come with him and instructs them to cheer loudly for your performance 
He’s pretty up to date with current music trends and listens to a fair amount k-pop himself so he’d probably recognize the songs you were dancing to + be somewhat familiar with the choreography
When you come on stage he’s already shouting “Go y/n-chii!!!” which makes you smile and you manage to make brief eye contact with him right before you get into your starting pose
It’s like a switch is flicked - you went from being his cute and smiley girlfriend to a serious BADASS - your expressions are so intense and serious Kise can’t help but be drawn in
When he hears the opening line of Cherry Bomb he’s thinking oh shit because damn that choreography is tough
From the tutting, to moving in sync with all the other members, to all the different formation changes - he knows this is a challenging piece to perform
Gave you his leather jacket (he probably got it from a modelling gig or something) to wear and seeing you dance in his jacket is just *chef’s kiss* stunning 
and it lets all the other annoying boys in the crowd know that you’re his because it has his jersey number embroidered on the back 
If people start shouting the fanchants he’ll join in because anything to support his amazing girlfriend
When you all change outfits and switch to move he is dying
He’s right in front of you and you are making very direct and SENSUAL eye contact with your boyfriend while you move your hips into another body roll
Kise smirks back and will pin you with an equally intense and lustful stare
When he sees you after the performance he immediately strides towards you and pulls you into a fierce kiss 
Spends the rest of the festival with his arm around you, bragging about his amazing girlfriend to anyone who will listen, then he’ll take you home and ;) 
May take advantage of perfect copy and learn a duet/routine with you sometime in the future
Midorima Shintaro
MY CARROT BOI — I swear I am taking this seriously
Midorima probably doesn’t listen to too much kpop - he prefers being able to enjoy the lyrics of a song and listening to Japanese music means he won’t have to look up lyric translations
Maybe has heard some Japanese versions of kpop songs on the radio, but is overall unfamiliar with the genre (context: Since Japan has such a huge market for K-pop, it’s not uncommon for groups to release Japanese albums where they sing the the in Japanese) 
When you first mention that your club is going to be performing at the school festival, he probably pictures some cutesy, bubblegum pop girl group song 
Is putting this into his calendar and making sure he sets reminders because he is NOT about to miss his girlfriend’s performance
Secretly happy because you are putting in extra practice for the rehearsal which means you stay late at school. Since basketball practice always runs late he’s glad he now has the chance to walk you home
Day of: checks your Oha-Asa horoscope and makes sure that you have your lucky item - he will buy it himself if necessary 
Knows you worked super hard on this performance so he knows you’re going to be fine
This tsundere carrot shyly wishes you good luck before you head backstage: “Good luck y/n, not that you’ll need it! Nanodayo…” with a slight blush on his cheeks 
Makes his way back to the audience - he made Takao save him a spot
Somehow Takao got his hands on a setlist/hear rumors and figured out what you were performing and is secretly filming Midorima’s reaction because your boyfriend is about to COMBUST
Cherry Bomb comes up and Midorima immediately realizes this is NOT the cute girl group dance he was envisioning
Is probably watching your performance intently - he never realized that your choreography would be this intense and physical 
Probably not as blushy during this one, just entranced and absorbed into your performance (will refuse to admit that he stared at you the entire time, even though Takao teases him about it later)
But when you transition to the cover of Move, oh gosh, this boy goes from stony faced to bright red tomato
Is 100% blushing and gaping at you while you perform the sensual routine, especially when your hands move across your body and you purposefully make eye contact with him
Realizing holy shit my girlfriend is so sexy holy shit you thought he was staring at you during Cherry Bomb his eyes are glued to your figure during Move
Probably rushes up to you awkwardly and gives you a surprise hug before whispering “Give me a little warning next time y/n.”

Murasakibara Atsuhi
Murasakibara is hanging out in your dorm room when you mention that you have an upcoming performance
“Ohh y/n-chan that sounds fun”
Lowkey pouty baby because he wanted to laze around during the festival and just spend the day trying all the food with you
Now he won’t have his girlfriend to keep him company for the whole day 
When you ask him if he’s going to come and watch, he’ll agree, because it’s at the school and it isn’t too much of a hassle and he knows you put in a lot of practice so he wants to support
Tatsuya probably still has to remind him about the performance on the day of
On the morning of your performance you wake up to find a bag of your favorite snacks and candies hanging on your doorknob
Murasakibara probably went to the nearby convenience store and bought you a bunch of “good luck” snacks to surprise you
Tatsuya and him walk into the auditorium, is kind of disappointed to see that it’s already packed so he has to settle for a seat farther away than what he liked
Thankfully he’s tall AF so he still gets a clear view of the stage 
Snacks through the other performances/skits and gets pretty bored, he’s here to see you and you only
Finally, they announce your club - Murasakibara immediately perks up with interest
Your group has a badass entrance before you start performing Cherry Bomb
You decided to temporarily dye your hair red for the performance and Murasakibara is surprised when you whip off the hat you were wearing to reveal bright cherry tinted hair
He’s watched you practice the moves several time and knows you struggled to master some of them - super proud when he sees you slay those hard bits of choreography on stage
Move comes on the speaker and he immediately can sense that this is definitely a very sensual dance
Like damn, watching you move your hips to the beat and confidently gazing into the crowd, he is very turned on definitely wants an encore from you in private
When you hit the last pose and the lights dim he is IMMEDIATELY walking out of the auditorium to find you 
Sees that you’re surrounded by some newly acquired fanboys and casually steps in behind you to wrap an arm around your waist
Towers over the guys surrounding at you, a scowl from him scares them off
You giggle at his antics because he’s cute when he’s jealous: “You don’t need to be that mean to them Atsushi”

Content Analysis:
Black Friday is monumental for the theatre community. While The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals was the first in the Hatchetfield series, Black Friday solidified that StarKid has created a theatrical universe of horror-comedy musicals that are all interconnected. There have been sequels to musicals before (including the infamous Phantom sequel Love Never Dies and the Annie sequel), the only group of titles that have come close to creating a theatrical universe a la Marvel is William Finn’s Marvin trilogy which encompasses In Trousers, March of the Falsettos, and Falsettoland, the last of the two often performed as the two-act musical Falsettos. Even then, Finn’s work doesn’t equate to StarKid’s latest and theatrical project; whereas Finn intended his works as a group of one-act musicals to be viewed in succession and continuing the same storyline, StarKid’s Hatchetfield series revolves around the town of Hatchetfield and the growing cast of characters within it as the audience witness different apocalyptic scenarios in alternate universe connected by a singular entity.
Where The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals was the introduction to the universe, Black Friday was the introduction to the extended Hatchetfield Theatrical Universe’s lore. The introduction of this universe’s version of force-sensitive children, Lex and Hannah, perfectly weaves together the growing plot and alternate-universe characters the audience is already familiar with, such as General MacNamara, Emma, and Paul, and adds so much more depth to Black Friday’s predecessor, providing so much potential for StarKid’s future Hatchetfield projects. When viewing it as a stand-alone musical, Black Friday holds its own because of the strong writing, creative story, and excellent characterization, but it would be a disservice to this individual story to only view it as such. Considering that it’s a part of a currently-growing larger theatrical work, the only way to fully comprehend the complexity and creativity of Black Friday is to view it in tandem with The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals.
The book is a perfect companion for The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals because of its great writing and each actor embodied their character so well that I would say the greatest performance throughout the show was given by the ensemble as a whole. An interesting difference between the two shows, however, is the tone. The overall tone for the show feels heavier and the plot bears much more significance to the characters, as well as the audience. A lot of that is largely due to the lighting and set design, provided by Sarah Petty and Corey Lubowich respectively. Even when viewing the production from a screen, I feel like I’m trapped in an enclosed space that increases my sense of impending doom the longer I take in the dark complexities of the plot.
Yet, story-wise, the plot is a lot darker because the consequences are higher and less laughable than being stuck in a musical. Black Friday does not shy away from its message that capitalism will eventually be the end of us all and is not afraid to say that if America continues its self-serving ways, then it will be a major, if not the sole, reason for the beginning of the end of Western civilization. Ignoring the fact that the entire show is about the poisonous effects of money in modern capitalist society, the running thread of the interpersonal disputes and internal struggles within the main characters revolve around selfishness and material gain. Our protagonists, Lex and Tom, spend the entire show trying to repair their relationships and make life better for their loved ones, but they bet their entire future happiness on a doll (who happens to be an evil being from another world set to destroy Earth but that’s beside the point). Granted, a lot of personal issues can be fixed with money - housing, food stability, education, healthcare, etc. are all dependent on a person’s finances. But, as Black Friday argues, people can withstand the worst of tragedies life throws at them as long as the people they love are close by and emotionally available.

Astaire & Rogers Rewatch Part 7: Shall We Dance
• Something I didn’t consciously realize about this film until reading Hannah Hyam’s book is that Astaire and Rogers don’t dance together until nearly an hour in. That hasn’t happened since Gay Divorcee. What was anyone thinking??
• Shall We Dance suffers from a lot of extra crap that it didn’t need, such as extraneous characters, far too many interruptions in the Astaire and Rogers relationship, and a bunch of weirdness like life-sized dolls, life-like masks, and backbending ballerinas. The film also has a lot of wasted potential, including a great score and songs by George and Ira Gershwin. 
The Gershwins were already well acquainted with Astaire and Rogers. The duo had first met when she was starring in the brothers’ show, Girl Crazy, and Astaire was brought in to help with choreography. Rogers was close friends with George and even dated him. Astaire had known the brothers prior, having starred in a few of their shows with his sister, Adele. 
• Our characters/actors: Peter “Petrov” Peters (Fred Astaire), Linda Keene (Ginger Rogers), Jeffrey Baird (Edward Everett Horton), Arthur Miller (Jerome Cowan)
• Around the time I was first really into classic Hollywood films, including these ones, my family and I adopted a new dog. I annoyed my parents to no end by suggesting we name him Peter P. Peters. Don’t know why I latched onto that name but I did. 
• Even in the massive portrait of Petrov, you can see Astaire has his fingers curled in rather than fully extended.
• Astaire’s ballet attire lets us once again see just how skinny he is. 
• Always loved how Peter does a little tap at the rhythmic sound of his name and birthplace: Pete Peters, Philadelphia PA.
• Rogers’ cardigan with all of its baubles is truly awful looking. It will only be out done by a terrible floral dress she wears later. 
• I do however like that she shoves her handsy stage partner into a fountain. Why are men constantly the worst?
• “And why must there always be a kiss at the second-act curtain?” is YET ANOTHER example of these films trolling us. Not once up until this point has any act of an Astaire/Rogers outing included a kiss between them. 
• Linda’s disinterest in even meeting Petrov is based on the assumption that he’s a “simpering toe dancer.” While that’s incorrect, she’s not wrong that he is indeed another man who has seen a picture of her and wants to tell her he can’t live without her. So she gets partial credit. 
• If Peter wasn’t totally smitten before, Linda’s jab, “It’s just a game little American boys play” gets him. 
• As a mixed race number, “Slap That Bass” is incredibly unusual for the era. Astaire was a great admirer of African-American dancers and was strongly influenced by Bill Robinson and John W. Bubbles. I love the blend of all of the voices in this song. 
• The dance portion of “Slap That Bass” gives Astaire a chance to show off more of his innovative mind and choreography. He dances in time with the sounds of the ship’s engine and compels the camera to follow him across and up the vast set. The dance is also special in that we have behind the scenes footage of Astaire rehearsing, thanks to a home video shot by George Gershwin.

• Peter making Jeffrey believe the boat is rocking may seem a bit unbelievable but having been on a large ship myself, sometimes you don’t realize it’s rocking until you see other passengers weaving or a giant chandelier swaying. 
• I usually skip most if not all of Jeffrey and Arthur’s scenes together. They slow down this film soooo much.
• Like in all of their films, songs are sometimes heard in the background before the actual musical number they appear in. But because this film is scored by the Gershwins, there’s an array of shorter pieces of music that are all their own, such as the whimsical score heard while Rogers and then Rogers with Astaire are walking her dog.
• The dog Peter borrows to give himself an excuse to talk to Linda hits his bark cue perfectly and looks extremely happy about it. 
• I would love to know what exactly Astaire and Rogers are talking about while walking her dog. Maybe they were given lines that were then not recorded or maybe it’s improv. But it seems very natural. 
Rogers did say that Astaire was a wonderful conversationalist and was adept at talking while dancing, something she noted most men couldn’t manage. 
• Wow do I love it when Rogers gets to be extra sassy
Peter: “Isn’t it wonderful being here tonight like this? Still on the same boat together.”
Linda: “Oh, I seldom change boats in mid-ocean.”
• “Beginner’s Luck” is such a charming, fast song that Astaire delivers wonderfully. He hardly seems to take a breath. 
A jazzed up version of “Beginner’s Luck” is the song Peter tried to dance to in Paris but the record kept getting stuck. 
• Something this movie fails at is letting Linda and Peter’s relationship continue to progress before throwing more obstacles in their way. We know from the gossip of the ship’s staff that they have been spending a lot of time together. When we see them, they are having a relaxing evening that’s incredibly domestic: sitting side by side on the deck while she knits and he smokes. Wouldn’t it have been nice to see more of this part of their relationship? 
• Why on earth did Peter think sending Jeffrey to fix the false baby rumors was the right decision? Jeffrey can’t handle a single thing. 
• Infuriated at the rumors that she’s married to Peter and pregnant with their baby, Linda tries to call him. “Operator! Get me Mr. Petrov. What? Don’t you dare congratulate me!”
• The theme of this movie is supposed to be the blend of dancing and music styles. Peter’s ballet and Linda’s jazz styles are one example, George Gershwin’s varied score, which switches from jazz to waltz to foxtrot to classical, etc, is another. But it’s a fairly weak concept that doesn’t quite land and reportedly, neither Astaire or Ira Gershwin was wild about it. 
• I love the new version of “Slap That Bass” that plays as Peter and Jeffrey enter the rooftop club. 
• When Rogers sings “They All Laughed,” she is singing to an off-screen Cary Grant, her friend and sometimes date who was visiting the set at the time. 
She is also wearing a dress with a horrible pattern. It’s supposed to be floral but it always makes me think of amoebas. Maybe it looked better in color?
• Astaire clearly has fun during the part where Peter hams it up a bit with his ballet next to Linda’s tapping. 
• In some ways, “They All Laughed” is reminiscent of “Isn’t it a Lovely Day.” They’re testing each other, trading glancing as they see whether the other can keep up with the increasingly complex steps. Until now, Linda didn’t know Peter could dance this way so her surprise and amusement unfolds slowly as the routine progresses. But he has been grinning since the start because he’s hoping to win her back through this dance.
• This is another duet where it takes a long time before they touch. The first physical contact is just her executing a series of spins with the help of his fingers. And it’s during this part that Rogers finally breaks into a wide smile.

• When he spins her up onto the piano the first time, she happily waits for him to retrieve her. And when he spins her into a seated position and upright again a few times don’t miss how he looks at her with a wry, slightly mischievous smile. 
• The Linda doll is so creepy and not lifelike. Who was fooled by this?
Also, Arthur is terrible. Jeffrey is terrible too but he’s an idiot so I’m more willing to let it slide. 
• Peter walking out of Linda’s bedroom in the morning in his robe right in front of her fiancé while she is in her negligee is pretty funny. 
• Peter and Linda’s nice day out is just further proof that this movie should’ve spent more time on the two of them together rather than breaking them up every few minutes. 
• “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off” is a fun song, though Astaire gets most of the good words imo. However, Rogers does do an extra affectation to some of her lyrics and that makes them funnier. 
At one point when she’s singing, he turns to her and for just a moment his face goes soft in that way it does sometimes when he looks at her. 
• Some film historians have labeled this dance as not that great when compared to other Astaire and Rogers numbers. But I’ve always found it very enjoyable and innovative. While Gene Kelly probably takes the gold medal for dancing on skates in It’s Always Fair Weather, Astaire and Rogers did it first, did it well, and deserve some extra credit for a duet on skates rather than a solo. 
Rogers also deserves some extra credit since the idea to dance on skates was supposedly hers. And probably deserves even more credit for doing this dance on skates while also in heels. 
• For some reason I really enjoy that they perform this number in their hats and street clothes. It’s so informal and feels like something you do on a fun date.

• Throughout this dance, Peter continues to be the playful one, as he’s been in their interactions in the film, and Linda is the more serious one who needs to be coaxed into having fun. Maybe this is why Astaire frequently glances at her and even spends long seconds watching her at different parts as they move into the next series of steps. Rogers is more reserved in her expressions but whenever they are face to face, she appears happiest. 
A few times she looks triumphant, leading me to wonder if they or she had finally nailed a section that was giving them or her trouble. 
• Can’t say for certain but I swear she almost falls when they do the backwards steps. She just baaaarely snags his hand in time. 
They had to film this dance something like 150 times so I imagine there was more than one time where at least one of them did indeed fall. 
• The circular dance they do leading up to the end is based on a dance Astaire and his sister made famous in their time on the stage.

• Apparently the grassy bank they tumble onto wasn’t padded so those fake grimaces of pain aren’t that fake. Their exchange after the tumble feels very much like married banter to me:
Peter: “Yes, it was my idea.”
Linda: “Have you any more of them?”
Peter, exaggerating: “No.”
• They’re such a good match:
Linda: “Peter, you’ve got to marry me.”
Peter: “Why, Linda, this is so sudden.”

• It will never make sense to me that a dance was not planned in this film for “They Can’t Take That Away From Me.” It’s a truly lovely song. I know Astaire and Rogers will dance to it more than ten years later in The Barkleys of Broadway but it’s just not the same. 
It’s also a good reminder in the film that Peter has legitimate feelings for Linda and she does for him but they’re far more conflicted. Though he must sense he’s hooked her in a bit since he becomes very aloof once they return to the hotel in the stupid hope of making her want him more? Idk, men are dumb. 
• “They Can’t Take That Away From Me” carries special poignancy because it became a form of consolation to Ira Gershwin after his brother suddenly died two months after this film was released. 
• Oh Linda’s face when she walks in to see Peter with the loathsome Lady Tarrington is so sad and crestfallen. Ever thought you and your crush were finally on the same page only to find them canoodling with someone else? 
Although, she could’ve knocked first instead of just walking straight into his room…
• The ballet portion of the finale is weird and unappealing in every way. Harriet Hoctor was known for the backbend dance she does in this film. Maybe it was something spectacular in 1937?? but it doesn’t hold up. 
One thing I’ll say about Astaire’s duet with Hoctor, it’s a great chance to see him in a romantic duet with someone other than Rogers and notice how different he acts. No secret smile, no lingering looks, no whispered words, no soft expressions.

• “Shall We Dance” is another upbeat song that deserves more than being featured in the remaining few minutes of the film. Their dance is far too short but wonderful all the same. Her delight when he finds her always makes me smile. She also executes some impressive full length lunges that I couldn’t do at this moment much less in a dress and heels in the middle of a dance number. 
For a few seconds, his fingers press into the exposed dip of her spine in yet another example of Victorian hotness. 
• And so we finish film number 7. Shall We Dance underperformed at the box office and wasn’t a critical darling. Everyone, the actors included, started to feel the magic was coming to an end. Coming up next is a film I pretty much never rewatch: Carefree.

Hunter x Reader
A/N: What nobody asked for. I didn’t think a title would be appropriate for this particular piece of work. It really doesn’t coincide with any Star Wars themes, save for everybody’s favorite Sergeant making his debut within. It’s more of a Lil perspective. (Lol I’m sorry my last two brain cells have no sense of humor) For context: I have been absolutely suffocating lately, in every sense of the word. It’s almost indescribably oppressive, so I wrote this in desperately seeking comfort and therapy. Just a fragmented depiction, addresses underlying mental health issues and sensory disorders—in carrying my own subtle semblance of it, I love exploring those complexities with Hunter. It turns out soft. I think. Also, if you squint hard enough, you will see some song lyrics scattered throughout the fic in the form of thoughts. I wrote this in the format of Reader, though it’s practically a self-insert, I’m just not brave enough for those particular pronouns. :) Sorry in advance if this doesn’t apply to you...

The silence was prodding. Hunter’s gaze darted to your tense form numerous times over the span of several painfully long, anticipating minutes. Each time, your lips remained pulled into a tight line while your extremities fidgeted in repetition. Agitation hung thick in the air. A terse statement of Y/N’s mystics echoed off the walls, to no-one in particular.
“I think... I’ve been gone for a long time.”
Hunter’s eyes incredulously searched you. “What do you mean?”
You see me standing, but I’m dying on the floor...
Your fists reflexively clench in grabbing at any semblance of weight to prevent your form from being dragged down into the mental abyss. You could feel it’s foreboding pull. It’s impending chaos.
It’s coming.
“Talk to me, Y/N...”
Your grip slackens, and you slip right over the edge. Hunter is too late to grab you.
I only want to die alive...
Your broken, unbridled guttural cries in response to the months of overwhelming emotional suppression caused Hunter to wince, and his own sensory receptors gain enough momentum to inwardly complain. He instinctively stuffs it down before kicking into action.
“Hey, Y/N, I’m here—”
Electric. The touch. His touch. It pricked, and the very fine hairs adorning the skin along your arms instantly retaliated to the calloused padding of Hunter’s fingertips caressing. It exacerbated your state of distress and just like that, your neurons overloaded. Sharp, stale air seeped in between your grit teeth and inhalation of insecurity.
Your sudden intake of breath and harsh flinch caused Hunter to cease in brushing up and down the outer region of your upper arms. His eyes narrowed slightly and quickly picked apart your stance. It greeted him like an old adversary with the remnants of a longstanding history, and a discomfiture swirled around Hunter at it’s painful familiarity.
“I can’t do this...” You breathe out despair.
The existing in general? The physical connection itself?
The latter wasn’t your fault. But it sure as hell felt like it. It certainly wasn’t his fault. Thankfully, somehow, the glint in Hunter’s shifting irises reassured you that he was privy to your suffering, to some degree; he knew. He understood.
Of course he did.
For who to better understand heightened tactile sensitivity than Sergeant Hunter of Clone Force 99? He was neither confounded nor dissuaded by your particularity in the slightest.
It had always been an inherence of yours; a rather obnoxious caricature within the conundrum, some obscure accessory buried in your already heavily packed bags. An extra ingredient that completely screwed up the recipe. Constituted as awkward, plain and simple; the dramatized detail never became easier to address with age, and the thick lump of disdain in your throat only grew.
You set your jaw in frustration. How to even begin picking up and putting together the pieces of a person who’s constantly missing one, or several. You were never satiated, equanimity never extended it’s stay for long; simply just renting. There was always something, someone, leaving a smoking hole in your chest, forcing every euphoric guest out.
I seek to cure what’s deep inside... frightened of this thing that I’ve become...
Your features twisted in agony and discomfort that accompanied the stoked episodes. It made you bitter. It threw you to the streets and dubbed you a martyr before satirically exposing, taunting at the misfortune of your dealt deck of cards. It was downright embarrassing, obtruding. Trepidations instantaneously trampled your meager, sensory overloaded form each and every time. Your bitter, corrosive laugh was all the evidence in that moment; a feeble reminder of your hypocrisy.
Because how, pray tell, does one’s physicality simultaneously experience both a revulsion for tactility and desperate craving for touch itself? You never understood exactly the way the two collided and contradicted themselves. Your teeth clamped your tongue in quelling the deprivation and plea for more rising in your throat, while your neurons worked to whisk your form as far away from the man as possible—away to the repetition of obsolete emptiness and desolation awaiting to greet you. As always.
“Let me help, cyare.” Begging... the man was hurting for you.
Don’t want to say yes, don’t want to say no...
Your mind ached. You can’t stop the pendulum in your head. Forced to look through a kaleidoscope of melancholy. Pleas echoed in a cavernous empty shell, but fell on deaf ears. Tears cancelled their appointment, and the well currently ran dry. There was... nothingness. And you fought the growing complaisance with the notion. Numbness was terrifying, and being terrified was numbing. You didn’t do well with attitudinal changes, seeking restitution more than ever while you wholly acknowledged the aspect of a ginger touch; the literal power within one’s fingertips to effectively mitigate your suffering. An opportune moment standing before you, his brows furrowed in sympathy and the corner of his lips angled in assuring you of his patience.
But the sharp pang and quick successions of staccato rhythm reverberated deep in your chest and only exaggerated your pain. Curse your heavy heart. A huff of breath incited subtle movement in the loose strands hanging over your profile, to which Hunter borrowed a moment in reaching out to sweep the curtain back.
Your head was under water, yet... you were breathing just fine. You just had yet to find the damned drain to expel the pernicious and suffocating sea of psychological terror into.
I just need to clear my head... don’t let it go to your head...
You quiver under Hunter’s intense appraisal, and shame swirls thickly. “I’m so sorry—”
“Don’t be. Please.” He immediately interjects, his palm turns upright and opens invitingly. “I’m here. Tell me what you need.”
Just tell him what you need.
“I... I don’t know.” Your admission speaks in a whisper of loss and uncertainty. You roll the flesh of your bottom lip between your teeth, the lump returns to your throat, and it’s crawling. Your gaze flickers.
“Just focus on me, cyare.”
Another catch: you can’t maintain eye contact to save your life. Kriff your soul. “That won’t work.” Your eyes anchor to the cold floor as sheer panic and the sturdy walls themself began to rise around your trembling self.
I can’t come alive... I want the room to take me under... Feel myself fading away...
“Okay—it’s okay,” he soothes. Hunter fervently wracks his brain—the way he decompresses and approaches his own form of stimming is slightly different; it’s different for everybody with a hyperactive response to stimuli. It took the Sergeant years to cultivate those particular penchants and even longer to tailor and perfect them to his predilection. If anything, he felt slightly apprehensive in the success of his methods.
Your hands that now wrap tightly around your rigid form are currently the only familiar pair of hands granted permission to access the area. You give a brief squeeze and teeter on the balls of your feet.
Hunter didn’t require a sniper’s nonpareil eyesight to see right through your peculiarity, even if he was briefly taken aback at it’s sudden effervescing. Truthfully, he should’ve picked up on it days ago: at your fierce denial and subtle panic over Hunter’s harmless offer of a massage after you had worked out a particularly stubborn knot kinking his lower back—a simple requite of mutuality, or so he thought. At the time, the Sergeant found himself shrouded in enigma over your reaction; seriously, who—other than him who barely tolerates it—doesn’t enjoy massages? It now made perfect sense. He fought the urge to self-deprecate over his ignorance.
“I’m suffocating, Hunter.” You choke, and the cadence of your voice is like a knife twisting into his heart; he gleans vicarious pain from your own.
Clarity suddenly lights up the Sergeant’s features, and you’re briefly hyper-fixated with the way the inky but slightly faded outline of his shadowy tattoo fluctuates in natural contortion with his many facial expressions. Just behind his eyes he beholds his brothers—
‘I’m suffocating, ori’vod’...
Hunter remembers...
Of the exact way he presses against Tech in order to smother his vod’ika’s fleeting bouts of anxiousness—the pressure nearly breaking the kid’s goggles on more than one occasion, and the way he compresses Crosshair’s shoulders in squeezing out the pent up anger to placate amidst the sniper’s wavering, and the position of which Hunter managed to encompass his brawny brother in a comforting embrace whenever the big guy experienced despondency—that is until Wrecker quickly outgrew his ori’vod and began flaunting his own prowess of overpowering hugs.
The difference between the scenarios was minimal. Hunter knew exactly what to do. Like second-nature to him, his nurturing instincts fully kicked in and determination spread through every fiber of his being, quashing the previous buzz of his own nerves.
Hunter didn’t know how well he could alleviate your emotional pain, but there was something he could do for the neurological aspect, and hopefully, one could ease the other...
Hunter ambles up to you and in one swift motion, secures the length of his arms around your upper back, noting the delineate contour of toned muscles and shoulder blades poking into his forearms that now drape across before his hands encircle and come to firmly rest on each shoulder. Firmness. Pressure—for your state, this depiction is key. He determinedly pulls you to him, unrelenting in a tight grip. The position of the crown of your head settled neatly under his chin, and stray hair peppered his textured features with tickling kisses as Hunter dips his head to softly press his lips to your roots.
I wish that I could bring you back to me...
With your face suddenly buried in the man’s chest, you come to distinctly acknowledge two immediate sensations. One; the man is warm. Not the muggy, stuffy warmth of Tatooine that is unpleasantly abrasive and dry; but a soft warmth that permeates, stoking memories of baked goods within the cushion of a heated oven warmly enveloping you each time it’s doors open, and seeking to melt the hardened encasing that is your tense muscles. It eases you towards a serenity. You have a ways to go before you can make out the sign in the distance, but Hunter himself is one step forward along the path.
Two; he smells amazing. A faint smoky sultry, an obscurely mesquite scent, slightly tangy and reminiscent of raw timber that is both luxurious and intoxicating; a sweet smell you’d classify as anything but cloying. Like he bathes with suds of fresh mountain air and luscious forests. It’s soothing, and your mind immediately associates the tangibility with a daydream and mercifully blesses you with the glimpse; of your husband having just entered your cozy homestead from a day of hard but fruitful labor in his intricate works of carpentry within the serene seclusion of temperate countryside enveloping your favorite planet—
Handle with care... say you’ll be there...
“Whatcha thinkin’ about, cyare—is this okay?” Hunter momentarily shifts and the rich baritone of the Sergeant’s voice resounding through his broad chest reels you back while he briefly tenses at your pending answer.
It was okay—your head was still swimming in an infinitely deep ocean of thoughts, but the way his hand slips from it’s position on your shoulder to cradle the back of your head before curling around the soft locks equates to the physical manifestation of a life preserver cast to your drowning form.
Your muffled confirmation and sheepish thanks warmly enveloped Hunter, as did your hands shifting to wrap around his broad frame in reciprocation. His grip tightened, and he patiently waits for you.
Hold.... Hold on... Hold on to me, ‘cause I’m a little unsteady...
Hunter refrains from trailing to stroke further along your back; the sneaking suspicion that the sensation might further tip off your nerves. So he remained stationary, and deciphered the way you seemingly favored a firm, weighted grasp and a grounding touch over ghosting fingertips and light, feathery textures. He could relate to that.
But Hunter couldn’t stop the hum of contentment that escaped his lips at your fingers having absentmindedly wandered up to twirl at his ebony tresses. He, personally, loved your soft, well-placed strokes full of deliberation and meaning, and only you were allowed to grace him with them.
Hunter could feel your heart hammering against the veil of his blacks, and his ears hearkened to the rhythm of your burdened breaths. He shifted his weight and began to gently sway with you, unsure of the words to say.
“I should’ve told you earlier,” your conscience suddenly prods.
A snort fills the air. “Oh, I would’ve figured it out soon enough. I’m kinda smart like that,” Hunter cringes at his corny sense of humor, but he swore the faintest of chortles rumbled beneath him.
He grants a final squeeze to your shoulders, careful to avoid the sensitive areas along your arms, before pulling back to address your face. Trouble and distress still graced you, and Hunter laced his fingers with your own. He thumbed at the worn flesh encasing your defined knuckles, a relic indicative of steadfast manual labor. You slowly exhaled at the touch; pressure along the palms and backside of your hands was soothing to you. You often wrung them to keep preoccupied when there was no warmth to solidify the muscle, fingertips drummed erratic tempos along your thighs whenever the mood struck, and loud cracking of the stiff joints in transient tics was a regularly becoming thing.
Take me by the hand, take me somewhere new...
Hunter tugged lightly in ushering you to the cot, firmly planting himself on the worn, creaking edge before his gaze met yours in awaiting approval. If he blinked, he would’ve missed the barely perceptible nod of your head in confirmation. Hunter leaned back on his full weight in gesturing you with him, and your form followed suit as you found yourself abruptly layered directly atop the rugged plains of his chest. The quirk of his lips told you he didn’t mind being used as a body pillow. Hunter’s arms suddenly turned up empty to rest above his head.
“I want you to be comfortable. No brushing. Just tell me where to put my hands.” He clarified, and appreciation bubbled in your chest. You contemplated for a moment.
“Just... hold me close.” You began to guide his hands to the exact position. “Please.”
His limbs obeyed by wrapping snugly as a hand found rest at the small of your back, and the other nestled itself slightly higher up the expanse, fingers splayed. Hunter solidified the closed space, and not even a muted ray of light could pass between the two forms.
You found solace within the cage of well-endowed muscle, slowly suppressing your nerves on each side and physically shielding you from the works of mental oppression. But his touch left you hyperaware; from an overtly suffocating insecurity towards every part of your body now lingering against his own, to the precise and tranquil thrum of his heartbeat in contrast with your racing one. Your stimuli sparks again in response to the stress.
“Y/N.” Hunter cuts through your tension, his voice laced with concern—you cannot calm yourself down, and you’re certain your mind absolutely loathes you. “Everything will be alright, I promise—don’t tense up, baby. Relax against me.” You angle your head so that one side of your face plants to his chest; you wish to better hear his sturdy heartbeat. You suddenly remember your own. It’s still beating. Resounding; indicative of purpose. Your breaths; symbolizing life.
Just keep breathing... my air...
“That’s it. Just breathe.” Hunter encourages. He reaches up to press against your temple in stroking at the hairline. Unbound locks cascaded around each other, a mixture of two colors softly tangled on either sides of the furniture. You lost count of your numbered breaths in the midst of solitude when a question unveils from your thoughts.
“How do you do it?” Your words trump the stagnant silence, a desperate inquiry that peaks through the fibers. You tilt your chin to better regard the man.
Confusion tugs at the corner of Hunter’s lips. “Do, what?”
“Anything...” you unload, and there’s a crackle to your voice. “The stress, the sensory... how do you manage? What’s your anchor in this wretched, kriffing life?”
A smile creeps up Hunter’s features, and his deep, reflective pools burn through you. “I’m looking at my anchor. And she helps me manage just fine.”
Your eyes blow protuberant and you manage to stare at him, dumbfounded. “What?”
“Honey, you are it.” His satisfied smirk grows wider, digging into his cheeks.
Something twitches at the corners of your lip and pulls into an upward curve; the feeling is tight, foreign. Your cheek muscles are unsure of how to compensate for the expression. You can’t remember the last time a smile has naturally graced your features. Now, it’s genuine. It’s... nice, and the hot rivulets currently streaming down your face are in a unanimous agreement.
Hunter moves to cup your face and thumb below your eyes, and his lips kiss the salt away. You grab hold of his forearms and shut your eyes.
“You want to know how I manage?” He croons in determination, “When my visual is overstimulated, I close my eyes and focus on the features of your face ingrained in my memory. When certain auditory has me weak at the knees, I remember the lull of your voice, comforting. When my nerves are on fire and I want nothing more than to be physically desensitized, it’s your soft touch that acts as a blanket, covering, making it easier for me. You make it better. Me better. Life better.” Hunter finishes his declaration in lovingly swiping at your face once more, expunging your pain. Words make a prompt exit along with it.
Your lips find purchase at the stubble along his jaw, in response. You love being able to fully make out the intricacy of his irises, now that you’re lovingly gazing into them. When you exit your captivated trance—his eyes are beautiful—you vaguely note with a twinge of pride that the encounter was indefinitely your longest standing record for maintaining eye contact. Another gentle smile fills your features. You remove your weight from him.
“Take this off?” You shyly tug at the collar of his blacks, seeking his consent, respectful of his own sensory receptors and their boundaries.
“Thought you’d never ask,” Hunter sits to quickly shed the upper article of clothing. He pulls you on top once again, and you are relishing in his bare skin. Your fingers map out a path of their own volition along the various textures and scars dotting the pectoral flesh.
“You never told me what you were thinking about earlier,” Hunter nonchalantly called you out. Your brows furrow in confusion. “There was something different on your face when I first held you. Just a flicker. But you looked... happy. Content, even.” Hunter smirked. “Hope you’re not planning to keep all that happiness to yourself.”
You certainly weren’t planning to. You recalled the picturesque and beckoned it forth... there was your sign of serenity. Just the shape of it, but solid, and clear. Hopeful, and promising, just on the horizon. It made your chest flutter, and ebbed away at the heartache. You realized Hunter’s brow arched in anticipation.
“How would you feel about working in carpentry?” A chuckle. Hunter was thoroughly humored, and surprisal was briefly evident on his features.
“So I can build you and I a house? To fill a bunch of babies with? Gladly.” He chased the daydream alongside you, and it was your turn to borrow the surprise; your mouth hung agape as heat crept through the apples of your cheeks. Hunter’s laugh boomed as a hand fit under your chin to close your parted lips. He wished to use his own to do the trick, but, another time.
“I’m with you.”

Okay so as you all probably know, I’m generally very much of the opinion that fanfic writers should be able to change the six queens to help them grow beyond the squabbling children they’re presented as in the show.
But I how Cleves is sometimes reduced to only being the violent or feral queen...because unlesss you’re specifically talking about Vicki Cleves then that characterisation really doesn’t make much sense on any level.
Cleves is shown to be against things getting violent in the show. She grabs Boleyn in an attempt to stop her from insulting Aragon any further, and then either gets between Boleyn and Aragon to stop them from tearing one another apart OR tries to move the competition along because she can sense that Aragon, Boleyn and Seymour are about to tear into one another depending on the script. And Cleves is far from feral at any point in the competition (again, unless it’s Vicki Cleves). Her entire song is dedicated to hyping herself up, and doesn’t contain any lyrics that belittle the other queens (unlike say DLUH or AWYD). And even though Cleves can make the odd snide comment or be blunt with the other queens (“who decided you were the winner” to Boleyn or “You? Queen please” to Seymour) her insults never reach the levels of the other queens like Boleyn or Aragon, and she specifically doesn’t insult Howard at any point in the competition, even though Howard insults her without any provocation.
I’m not going to be a hypocrite here. I did once make a headcanon that Cleves would deck nice guys for refusing to leave the other queens alone. And I regret that massively now because as I’ve learned more about the show and Cleves’ character, I realised that just isn’t who Cleves is. Please take this as me officially redacting that old headcanon and apologising for it, since I no longer believe in it and think it’s an insult to the complexity of Cleves.
But I just,,,I really want us as a fandom to try and move away from that idea that Cleves is somehow the violent queen or mean queen because she’s not! She’s a level-headed, non-violent queen who is shown to be just as invested in the concept of fairness as Parr and just wants to talk about her palaces and her dogs.
(This is mainly based off Lexi’s Cleves, but I’d argue that most of it rings true for the other portrayals such as Grace or Brittney, with the exception of Vicki Cleves who just does come off as a little unhinged)

You were late.
Normally the hustle on the steps of the subway wouldn’t bother you as much, but today was one of those days. What with the bills pouring in and the stress of your degree bearing in, you had decided to sleep in for one day. That one day, your professor decided to hold a thesis meeting.
In short, you were now rushing through pressing crowds to hopefully catch a train that would get you to the campus in time.
You knew you shouldn’t have moved out from the apartment you shared with another student on campus, but you couldn’t stand the pounding of her headboard against your shared wall any longer. The awkward silences the next morning which let you both know that you could hear her vile screams every other night just weren’t worth it.
Finally emerging on the very edge of the platform, you leant in recklessly, looking both ways for whatever train went the direction you wanted it to.
“Hey, do you have a death wish?”
You turned to see a man right behind you, one hand reaching forward as if he was going to pull you back.
You shifted back into the safety of the yellow strip.
“I’m sorry?”
The man grimaced, or so you assumed from what you could see of his face that was revealed over the thick black face mask and even thicker scarf wrapped around his head. Eyes darting down to the yellow strip and then your feet, he waved a hand at the nonexistent distance between them.
“You could’ve gotten hurt falling in, died maybe. What else am I supposed to think?”
You clicked your tongue at the thoughtful stranger.
“I’m just in a hurry.” You tried hard not to sound snappish. After all, he wasn’t wrong; you were just not in the greatest mood.
“In a hurry to die?”
“I don’t want to die; I’m just late for a meeting.”
It didn’t strike you that maybe you could’ve just thanked him and moved places, somewhere farther away where he wouldn’t catch you doing it again. But the man was conversational and you were on a roll.
“I decide to sleep in for one day and my douche of a professor called in a meeting which he should’ve called a month ago. It’s really not my best day.”
The man, dark inquisitive eyes glinting under the stark lights allowed you to regale him with the woes of your life before you stopped, realizing that not only were you pouring out your life to a complete stranger, there were also other people around listening, some looking irritated at your chatter and others blatantly staring at you in interest.
Heat rising in your cheeks despite the high collar of your coat, you turned away from the prying eyes, his and others.
“Sorry,” you grunted.
You had only decided to pull your phone and headphone out to drown your embarrassment in music when you felt a hand on your elbow.
You turned in alarm to see it was the stranger again, hand curved around your elbow to tug you gently back, almost into him.
“I would just feel a lot better if you weren’t across that line.” He said and you wondered if it was sarcasm or genuine concern in his voice.
You blinked slowly up at him before nodding, trying not to acknowledge the slight tug in the gut you’d felt in your stomach due to his proximity.
You’re just lonely. You haven’t had someone show you this much sympathy in a while, especially a stranger. Get a grip.
Finally – finally when the train arrived, you were the first to board it, thankfully noting that not a lot of people were getting on the commercial way of getting to the university grounds. Aside from the ones already there, you’d have a chance of hopefully crashing at your friend’s place.
You glanced up when you spotted a familiar black clad figure sit beside you, worryingly looking at the ‘thoughtful’ stranger.
“Are you following me?” you blurted out.
You didn’t have to wait for the man to turn to know he had raised his eyebrows.
“Why do you ask?” he asked.
The question threw you. You might have expected an offended rebuttal; you didn’t know why he had gone with simpler words, posing a more complex question.
“I…well,”
“Don’t worry I’m not, I have to get to the university grounds as well. I have something to do.” He said.
“Oh,” you looked down to your hands, feeling silly. “Sorry,”

You turned your head but found yourself looking to the reflection of the man sitting beside you time to time. He had removed the mask and scarf a little time into the journey and you had to say you gaped.
He was pretty.

Bulletproof was one of Siyeon’s guilty pleasures. She’d found their debut song on Sound Cloud, claiming it was her Nirvana and she’d religiously followed the underground band since. You’d seen her sporting their songs and flaunting their deeper lyrics on her notebooks but you had never actively pursued her mania with them.
After all, she was bound to move on sooner or later.
You wondered if their tour on your campus meant the beginning of another one of Siyeon’s obsessions while the one with Bulletproof subsided, now that she could see them in person.
“…Hoseok sent me exclusive tickets, two of them! So naturally, I told them I would bring you…”
You jerked your head up from your textbook.
“You did what?” you grunted in irritation.
Siyeon sighed.
“Y/N, we both know you’ve been cooped up in your apartment for way too long, you need to get out.”
“I can’t get out. I don’t have the money to afford both an outing and my electricity bill.” You reminded her. You were being crushed under debt and while you appreciated the offer, you’d rather not.
“Well, you don’t have to pay for this one, I already did it.” Siyeon said, flopping down next to you on her plush bed.
“Siyeon, you didn’t have to do that.” You mumbled.
“Hey, if I want to take my best friend to a band show, I can, okay? Stop whining and pick something out from my closet.” She was already up before she finished her sentence, throwing open her closet doors to display her vibrant selection of clothing.
Smiling a little at her over enthusiasm as she reminded you that you had exactly two hours to get ready, you closed your textbook.
Maybe one night out wouldn’t be so bad.

The café; normally decked out in shades of comfortable browns and creams had undergone a stunning change.
Deep reds, bold patterns and black draped over the surfaces, a small platform set up near the back beside the counter.
“They are the band colors and sigils,” Siyeon let you know as you trudged past the decorations, earlier than other patrons and made your way to where Hoseok, your friend and owner of the café was lifting beer bottle crates to the back of the counter.
“Girls,” he mumbled, counting heads of the bottles, “you’re early.”
“I know! I wanted to get the best places!” Siyeon gushed while you stifled a yawn. You were so going to bed as soon as this was over.
“Siyeon, it’s a ticket based show. You’d get the first stand anyway.” Hoseok reminded her but there was nothing that could’ve made your friend dim. She was giggly and skipped where she stood.
You studied your friend; maybe the band really was good.

You helped Hoseok carry out a few errands in the café until the time of the show, when he waved you away just as Siyeon arrived, her hand clawing at yours to drag you to the very front of the stage.
Not a lot of people had shown up, considering it was a concert show but the café was fuller than you had ever seen it.
Your sides pressed against the people who were clamoring to get to the stage as well, who probably listened to the band. Siyeon won the battle though as you both emerged, triumphant just as the curtain fluttered, signaling movement backstage.

It was a band of six members; you counted, watching them take their respective positions and instruments. What you found strange was that each of them had a hood of some thick material on.
You watched as the tallest man raised his hands to the microphone while Hoseok pulled out a megaphone from the counter, announcing the band.
“That’s the key, their bulletproof hoods. It means they are faceless guardians of their fans.”
“Deep,” you returned, clapping politely as the café broke into applause, signaling the band to reach up and pull off their hoods in synchrony, the last member, at the microphone doing it slower and more dramatic that the others.
Your clapping stopped immediately.

The tallest man standing right at the front of your best friend’s favorite band was the kind man who had decided to pull you away from a reckless position and listened to your ranting when he had zero obligations to.

The angst in their voice, bled into the surroundings while the passion of the more upbeat songs even lifted you enough to bounce just a bit.
Siyeon cast you a sly grin. “Knew you’d like them, you just had to listen.” She said.
You ignored her, choosing to focus on the lead singer of the band, your stranger.

You slowed in your steps. “Seokjin,” you questioned.
She nodded. “The lead singer, he was eyeing you up and I saw you smile up at him.” she said.
I shrugged, filing away the name, “It was just some meaningless interaction, nothing more.” You told her as she led you to the office at the back of the café, repurposed to serve as a backstage for Bulletproof.
She knocked on the door and Hoseok opened it. “You are the only ones,” he advised, pulling the door open wider to let you and Siyeon in, “Don’t annoy them too much Siyeon.” He warned, earning an indignant smack from her which he dodged.
“Guys, this is Siyeon and Y/N.” he pointed you out. “Siyeon’s the one begging for your show here, huge fan. Y/N’s our best friend.” He said walking to the six boys who nodded to you.
“Hey, I’m Jimin, the prettiest of the group.” The shorter boy with the acoustic guitar spoke up, earning eye rolls from the rest.
“Yeah, right,” the taller one beside him said.
You watched as Siyeon went up to each member, quickly getting surrounded by the members as your own eyes went to the far corner, finding dark eyes already on you.
A shock of thrill went through you as Kim Seokjin peeled himself from the wall and joined you in your corner.
“Y/N,” Seokjin greeted you with a nod.
“Mr. Kim Seokjin,” you replied, feeling a smile bloom across your face as his own broke out.
“Found out about me, huh?” he asked quietly.
“Siyeon is a huge fan,” you explained and he nodded again, both of you watching your friend mingle easily with his members.
“What about you?” he asked curiously.
You shrugged.
“I’ve heard a few of your songs but my life hasn’t been exactly affording me to pursue any hobbies or obsessions.” You reminded him.
Seokjin smirked a little at that.
“Are we worthy of being your obsession, Miss Y/N?” he whispered.
You blinked, turning to look at him out of the corner of your eye. Surely he wasn’t flirting with you?
“Well, you were pretty…good up there.” You said, trying not to acknowledge the heat flaring in your neck.
“Hmm,” Seokjin looked like he was going to say something else when a hoot went through the group near you.
“Y/N! The boys are taking us for drinks!” Siyeon called and her eyes squinted when she saw you standing with Seokjin before her pursed lips quivered; the tell-tales of a grin threatening on her face.
She’s probably planning your wedding already; your mind told you and looked shyly up at Seokjin.
“Oyo, Jin! You in?” The man who had sassed Jimin earlier called.
You felt Seokjin nudge you a little as he raised a hand to mime ‘ok’ with his fingers.

The small bar the band took you, Siyeon and Hoseok to, was small and quaint, just like them, the tall one who you found out was Taehyung, explaining to you that this was the place where they had started performing from.
It had a special place in their hearts.
Your friends had quickly blended in with the setting of the hyped band, ordering their drinks as stories were swapped and they divulged about how Namjoon, the lyricist was friends with Hoseok from their school days.

“I’m not. Siyeon is making me stay with her so for the time being, I’m safe from the threat of accidental deaths.” You told him.
Seokjin nodded, backing away a little as you and him turned away from the conversation completely, the bubble you were in with him seeming way more inviting.
“I was surprised you were in the crowds today. I didn’t think you were a fan when you didn’t scream so I was even more surprised to see you visited us backstage.” He said.
You nodded to Siyeon’s bobbing head. “She’s the reason I was there at all. She literally adores you lot. Plus she doesn’t like me being alone so she keeps dragging me everywhere.” You shook your head fondly.
“I’m glad. I’m happy that you kept her company.” He said, eyes intense again as he stared at you.
You bite your lip, eyeing him right back.
“I’m glad as well; you’re one intriguing man, Seokjin.”
“Jin,” he corrected gently, raising a finger to brush a tendril of hair behind your ear, “How is that?”
You leant in dangerously close, his eyes sparking just a little at your proximity. “You listen. Your songs are a reflection of what you’ve all heard in your lives and it’s so precious that you consider yourselves guardians. Not a lot of musicians do that.” You whispered.
Jin turned his head, taking a swig from the beer bottle and your eyes were drawn to the way his lips wrapped around the lip of the bottle, pressing and pulling against each other.
You clenched your fist tight. What else could he do with that mouth?
Jin glanced at you with a smile as if he knew exactly what were you thinking.
“I’d be happy to show you.”

Did he actually just? Yes, he did. You glanced at Siyeon and Hoseok, both too engrossed in their conversation to glance at you.

“You can do more than that, if you want, but yes.” He teased.

You were surprised by a lot that night.

“Not all of the mess is mine,” Jin chuckled nervously behind you. “The guys find it comfier to just crash here when we work so all their stuff just stays here.”
If you had to be guessing you’d probably bet he was sobering up. Almost all your drunken brazenness had faded off anyway and you wondered if he would regret bringing you here and showing you this.
“I like it.” you told him firmly, turning to face him.
Jin’s face seemed extra youthful in the dim lighting as he stared at you, looking for any signs of deception but smiled broadly when he found none. His eyes quickly went to the sofa as he reached for you, large hands gripping the plush curves of your hips, pulling you tighter to him.

I hope you don’t mind that I changed it a little bit - i couldn’t imagine Roger disco-ing, so I thought it would be fun to set it at Deaky’s kid’s roller disco birthday party instead.

It’s a Saturday afternoon, and you’ve been called into work last minute to cover a kids birthday party after Sarah phoned in “sick”. 
“Interesting.” You smirk into the receiver when your manager calls you to the break the news. “She seemed perfectly fine when she was downing those Sambuca shots in the pub last night -”
“I’ll pay you over-time.” He cuts in. 
“Fine.” 
You grin and slam the handset down. 
It’s just a temporary job - evenings and weekends, until you finish getting your MSc. And it isn’t even bad. You were a bartender during your third year and it had been hell. The hours here are better, the wages higher even without tips. And you don’t get nearly as many lecherous old men. 
Anyway, you don’t mind working over-time if it’s for this. A kid’s party - teeny tiny kiddies, like ages 5 and 6. They’re everyone’s favourite kinds of shifts. You burn your throat gulping down your coffee and pull on your roller skates. You’ll be late if you don’t skate there. 
You roll in and immediately head to the rink, slinging your bag down onto the reception desk where your manager, shooting you a grateful look as you pass, takes it through to the back for you. 
“I’ll sign you in!” He half yells after you, and you wave him off and speed down to the rink to join a harassed looking Louise. 
“Oh thank God you’re here.”
She’s got a line of tots jostling at her counter, grabbing for skates in the right size. 
“Did you hear what Sarah’s told Tommy?” You wonder as you eye the long line of excited kids snaking up to the kiosk, some chattering in groups, some clinging onto their parents hands. 
Louise raises an eyebrow in question. 
“Flu.” You smirk. 
“Flu?!” She says in disbelief, disappearing under her counter momentarily to tuck a pair of pink sparkly Lelli Kelly’s away underneath. 
“Flu my arse! Wouldn’t have believed her if he’d seen - there you go sweetie, size 13 - seen the way she was dancing on those tables last night!”  
You chortle with glee. 
“That’s what I said!”

You skate out into the middle of the floor and the first thing you notice are a pair of young men hanging over the side of the rink. There are, of course, a few parents supervising, but these two only look a year or two older than you, and it isn’t clear whether they are accompanying a child. Plus, one of them - a blond - looks to be swigging from a can of beer. 
You decide to skate over and just make sure. 
“Hi there,” You approach the blond with your best polite customer service tone, not wanting to cause any problems. 
He looks up at you with a smirk. 
“I’m sorry sir but you’ll have to drink that outside,” You explain apologetically.” “This is a children’s function, and we don’t allow alcohol on the premises.” 
His gaze is fixed on you, and you shrink a little in it despite being raised up a head taller than him in the ring, bumped up by the height of your wheels. He tips the can into his mouth and slowly finishes it, before crunching it up and putting it into his pocket. 
“Sorry ‘bout that.” He says. His voice is oddly soft. 
You nod, and your gaze switches between him and his friend. He doesn’t look 25. 
“Are you here with a child?” You ask, trying to keep your voice neutral. 
“Nah.” The blonde cuts in casually and your head snaps back to him once more. “M’just tagging along to check out the hot talent.” 
He leers at you and grins, and it’s enough to make your eyebrows shoot up into your hairline. “Excuse m-”
“He’s with me” His friend cuts in loudly before you can shout, clearly exasperated. “I’m John, that’s my wife Veronica.” 
He nods toward a wooden spectator bench a little way away and your eyes fall onto a young women, sat handing out cartons of juice to a sea of grabby children, one of whom had on a little paper hat, and a birthday boy badge. 
“It’s my son’s sixth birthday party.”
“Sorry,” You say, smiling at John quickly. “You just looked young to have a child.” 
He nods and gives you a slightly strained smile. 
“Yes, well. We were very young when we had Robert.”
You take that as your cue to leave them to it.

“You not getting your skates on?” You ask as you loop backwards past the man - whose name you’ve learnt is Roger - for the hundredth time that hour. 
“Disco’s not really my thing.” He retorts, and you roll your eyes. 
You hadn’t imagined that it would be. Even standing there at a kids party, his can of beer now replaced by a carton of Ribena, the man looks the epitome of edge. Cigarette placed behind his ear, poking out from his messy, bleach blonde waves. Red leather jacket and a loud, zebra print shirt, with so many buttons undone it barely covers his naval.
“Oh, come on!” You say with a grin, looking backwards at him over your shoulder as you skate away.
“Stop flirting.” Louise has had to remind you more than once, because you’ve been so distracted laughing at him you’ve nearly tripped over a child.
You just smile bashfully at her and shrug as he calls out after you, “Maybe you can show me later!”

“Lucky bitch.” You sniff as you watch Louise stow her skates away in her locker and grab her things. Sarah’s shift happens to be the close, meaning you’re stuck there until the last customer leaves the complex, and then you’ll have to clean up and lock up.
She just grins at you wickedly as she waves goodbye, and exits the building. The Deacon’s are also heading towards the exit, after having ensured that every child has been collected, and you shoot them a quick smile and a little wave to Robert as his mum drags him away from his party.
John has reluctantly left Roger with you, who has offered to stay and help you “clean up”, in return for you teaching him how to skate.
Big feet, you muse to yourself as you spray his size 11s with the antiseptic, before handing them over. As you watch him struggling to pull the skates on in his tight leather trousers,  you can’t help but speculate at what else might be big.
You have to hold his hands at first (big and rough with calluses - you wonder briefly what he does for a living) but by the time you come back with the brush and mop he’s holding his own, wobbling around the ring in a slow but steady circle.
“That’s it!” You praise, and he grins to himself. 
You sweep up while he messes around, your skates and Tommy’s long-handled platform broom allowing you to have the place clean in record time. Roger gets in your path a few times and you use the bristles to swat at him playfully. You finish up, and skate over to the decks and put some music on. You’re flicking through the tracks absently, until you come across one that sparks an idea.
You glance around the rink until your eyes land on little plastic chairs they leave out for the parents to sit on. Roger watches you quizzically as you drag one over to the middle of the floor, setting it down and then motioning him to skate over.
“Are you gonna give me a lap dance or something?” He says cheekily as you push him down into the chair, but you only shush him and whiz back over to the disco decks. He waits patiently for you, a little bemused. 
You press play on your competition song and skate over to stand in front of him, grinning at the confused expression on his face as you get into your starting position, waiting for the intro to count you in.

Roger’s face breaks into a wide smirk as you start to dance around his chair, realising what you were doing. You were performing your competition piece for him.

The lyrics make blood rush to your cheeks, aware of his hawk-like gaze upon you at all times. He leans back against the back of the chair, legs spread out wide and his arms coming up to fold across his chest. He bites his lip and grins, and you cast your eyes down to the floor with a smirk of your own, too shy to look him in the eye.

Your focus, instead of on Roger, is on the wall behind him, spotting so as not to get dizzy as you execute your turns. You don’t, therefore, notice how tight his leather jeans are becoming, nor what’s straining against them.

You’ve turned to perform the section where you have your back to the audience, and the music is so loud you don’t even realise he’s skated right up behind you until you feel him bumping into your back.

You jump and let out a little gasp, and his hands shoot out to grasp onto your hips to steady himself. The two of you jostle back and forward slightly on your wheels. You stop dancing.

You feel something pressing into the small of your back, and Roger’s need becomes apparent. You place your hands on top of his, tight on your hips. His lips come down to ghost over your bare shoulder.
“Y’know, my cars parked round the back.” He whispers into your ear. You feel the tickle of his breath on your neck, and swallow.
“I’ll lock up.”

You step out into the night. He’s sat in the driver’s seat, warming the car up. Rubbing his hands together in the cold and blowing into them. You grin and get in. 
“Cor, it’s freezing in here!” You giggle, and you’re barely sat down in the passenger’s seat before he’s making a grab for you. 
“C’mere.” He says, pulling you forcefully across the gear stick and into his lap, and it’s half-muffled by an eager kiss before it’s even out of his mouth.

“Well.” You say a little awkwardly as you plop back down in the passenger seat, hastily pulling your clothes back on. “You should probably take me home.” 
You’re still panting. That had been quite something. 
He’s bare-chested, using his top to clean all the fog you’d made off his windscreen. 
“Come for a drink first?” He says easily, and you fight a smile. 
“It’s kiinda the wrong way around, but… okay.”
He grins victoriously and starts the car, smiling to himself as he puts it in reverse and backs out of the parking space, arm thrown over the back of the passenger seat. You can’t help but grin back, excitement bubbling up in your tummy. 
He turns on the radio as he gets onto the main road, just as some cheesy disco song is finishing. Roger’s fingers, still resting behind your head, tap out the rhythm absentmindedly. He looks sexy, driving with one hand like that. 
The presenter chatters away at a frequency you can’t quite hear, so you miss him introducing the next song. Roger doesn’t, though. 
He looks at you out of the corner of his eye with a shit-eating smile on his face, waiting for the light to go on in your head. He watches the look of familiarity wash over your face as the symbols kick in. 
You whip your head around to look at him just in time. 
“One of these nights -”
Roger’s bent double over the steering wheel in peals of laughter almost the entire way to the bar.

Meet Judd Madden: Melbourne’s Most Prolific One-Man Band

How are you doing?
Pretty good! As good as we can in these strange times.
When you are not doing music you are doing web design. How busy does that keep you?
There's not much work on at the moment honestly, so personal projects have filled the void. And video games.
You live in Melbourne Australia right? Tell me a little about Melbourne and where you live.
Melbourne is home to 5 million people. It's a wonderful city with vibrant live music, restaurants, parks – anything you're into, you can find. I've lived here for 16 years and I absolutely love it.
How have the wildfires affected you?
We had smoke here in Melbourne for weeks, though Sydney was much worse. The bushfires (as we call them) were hell on earth for those nearby.
How are you holding up with the Corona virus affecting everything?
My wife is working from home now, with me, so that's nice. My friends and family are healthy and safe, but I miss seeing them in person – video chats and phone calls are just not the same.
I miss live music and being in a crowd, the physical space and sharing in the moment. Australia is doing well comparatively, we're a spacious country with a low population, and we're good at following rules like "stay home."
What places do you go to in Melbourne to see heavy music?
The Tote, The Bendigo, Max Watts (HiFi), The Forum. I can't fucking wait to get to a gig when all this is over.
What are some Australian bands you love and we should check out?
In the doom/metal scene there are so many. Droid, Dr Colossus, Pod People, Thaw, Holy Serpent, Lucifungus are some I've enjoyed live recently.
Glacial by Judd Madden
My first introduction to Judd Madden was Glacial. I loved it and checked the other albums on your Bandcamp page.
Oh, cool! That album featured my one and only music video; Mountain Slayer, which received great exposure.
Is there an album that was removed from your Bandcamp page? There was a song on an album that almost had a hardcore tempo, great bass line! I want to say something like against set. I wish I remembered!
Before Waterfall (the first album) was released I made dozens of rough songs, to see if I could do it all by myself, and to experiment. Most of them were bad. "Against Set" and some of the less bad songs are on the Old Doom & Demos album. Listening now, it's not that fast -- maybe you're thinking of something else? There are not a lot of fast songs in my catalogue, perhaps "Mouth" from Waterfall or Waterfall II?
Please tell me about 528hz (DNA repair). I have heard many frequencies in that range, higher and lower but never in a doom song!
It's from "Everything In Waves" which is about reality, energy, perception, matter, cosmos. In my research about wave-forms of all types, I stumbled across the "healing tones" genre, with its wild claims about specific frequencies.
The song is mostly tongue-in-cheek, but leaves the question open. Can listening to certain tones have healing/meditative benefits? Well, we don't know everything, right?
Feel No Pain by Dead End Thoughts
What prompted Dead End Thoughts?
The desire to create even heavier music, with vocals. It's a separate project, as my main catalogue doesn't have vocals – Dead End Thoughts is a different beast. I wanted a space to explore complex ideas, the edges of my mind and darkness. The songs are thematically and musically extremely heavy.
It doesn't come from a place of depression or anger, as some people have suggested, but a need to explore and create something original. If it's original I'm happy. Musically the songs are totally organic, it's a stream of consciousness in the jam, with vocals and instrument layers added after.
Dead End Thoughts recently released 'Feel No Pain' (2020). Please tell me about the spark that started the fire for this album.
Feel No Pain is created directly from live jams between myself on guitar and Dan on drums. It's an evolution from the first album, which I created recording guitar first and drums second (which was difficult).
When you jam with one melodic instrument and one rhythmic instrument, both are free (within reason) to do what they like. Adding a second melodic instrument like a bass usually requires more planning and results in more structured songs.
We enjoy seeing where things go. These five tracks were chosen from around 20 that we recorded throughout the year. I realised mid-year that this could be the next album; the riffs were of similar tone, and I wouldn't have to drum over them!
Once I added a second/third guitar, bass, and vocals, they no longer sounded like jams and became real songs -- but you can still feel the live energy. It's also not perfect, which I think makes it more interesting.
We surprise ourselves when we're jamming, there is no staleness from playing a rehearsed song over and over. Most of the riffs on the album were new to us as we played them. It's so much fun.
On 'Feel No Pain,' Dan Jolly plays drums and did the album artwork. Please tell me about him and his role in Dead End Thoughts.
Dan has been one of my best mates for many years. We've played a lot together, he's a fantastic drummer who's even more into doom metal than I am! He played on half of these tracks unaware that they would become an album, sorry Dan. (laughs)
Our drumming styles are actually pretty similar, but he's younger and more energetic. I asked him to do the album art, as I was doing all the production and extra instruments, so he could share ownership of the project. It's an awesome painting, we had it before the lyrics so I was able to connect with "By Burning Heat."
Colour High by Colour High
Tell me about Colour High and how that is different from the music you make most of the time.
Colour High is an electronic doom project, similar to the music in Stranger Things. It was made over two months very late at night, in headphones when I couldn't make noise.
I've always dabbled in electronic music, once I even 'played live' in 1999 with my brick of a computer and CRT monitor. I just sat behind it and pretended to be doing things -- I wasn't.
Colour High is all about exploring sounds, compositions, just having fun and enjoying a different process. Having the entire score and all instruments available when composing is very different to the track-by-track approach required for solo instrumental music.
What makes Judd Madden laugh?
Most things. My friends, my wife, my cat. I love TV shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm, Always Sunny, South Park, The Office. Love stand-up comedy -- hard to name just a few, but Dave Chappelle, Brian Regan, Bill Burr, Iliza Shlesinger, Joey Diaz, Dylan Moran and all the greats like Carlin, Seinfeld, Prior, etcetera!
Which bands have influenced you and the music you make?
My parents like Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Beatles, Metallica. 90's bands like Tool, RATM, Chili Peppers, Prodigy. Then I started getting into Kyuss, Sleep, Yob, and the amazing stoner rock/doom metal scene. It resonated strongly with me and I immediately wanted to make music in that genre.
Now I listen to anything good: jazz, classical, electro, darksynth, math, weird stuff like Scott Walker or doom bands like Conan, Bongripper, Aleph Null. Completely obsessed with an electronic artist called 2814, the album Birth of a New Day is a real trip.

Name some good books that you have read.
The Gap Cycle, Stephen Donaldson. The Nights Dawn Trilogy, Peter Hamilton. Enders Game Series, Orson Scott Card.I like big space operas, currently getting through The Culture series, but honestly I've fallen out of the habit of reading – I usually listen to music in headphones in bed.
How is the weed in Australia? Good?
It's illegal mate. But good, yes. I never touched it until I was 30 – now it's fun occasionally. I find it can help creativity, particularly with music. It can lower your ego, allow a more natural flow.
Is there anything you want to plug or promote?
Aside from the new album and the other projects we've discussed, my wife and I made Duel 52, a card game that you can play with a standard deck of cards. It's free and fun, if you're bored in lockdown check it out!
What is in the future for Judd Madden and Dead End Thoughts?
Once Dan and I can jam again we'll keep making music, and another heavy album. For my main project I have the beginnings of a lighter album similar to Float, spacey and guitar-heavy. Calm, meditative music to balance all this darkness.

1) Do they believe in true love?
Not entirely. She is well aware that love is something that comes and goes. There are types of love that are temporary and very few that last. 
2) Do they believe that their life has meaning?
Isabelle has always struggled to know her purpose in life. Most of her childhood she was at someone else’s mercy. She is convinced that to some degree the Fates have just been toying with her. She has only existed so far for someone else’s use and amusement which does not settle well with her.
3) What first impression do they give when they first meet someone?
Isabelle has been known to give the energy she receives. If someone is polite to her, she has no problem at least tolerating them and being decent. Should someone be a problem, she sees to it that they receive their own medicine.
4) Do they believe in Heaven/Hell?
She believes in an afterlife that is judged based on morality.

Other people’s desperation to belong.
8) Biggest Regret? 
Hiding while her brother was killed. He was never meant to pay for her sins.

Her hair is very noticeable. She usually wears it down and rarely ever ties it up.

Eyes. Since eyes are the window to the soul and whatnot, she is a sucker for eyes.

Isabelle suppresses many of her negative emotions and bottles them up. She’s been known to be overwhelmed to the point of having panic attacks and break downs. She can hold back traumas for ages until the smallest thing in the world sets her off. She’ll often cry herself into a migraine and pass out from exhaustion in whatever chaos she’s unleashed.
16) Hardest decision they ever had to make?
To decide if she should follow the path the Greeks wanted for her or to split from the pantheon the way Castor had. 
17) What makes them fond of someone?
Isabelle is drawn to souls like her. The ones she shares interests with. She’s also very fond of children. Children can never do wrong as far as she’s concerned. She’d die protecting a child.
18) Do they believe in forgiveness?
Forgiveness is something that is very difficult for Isabelle to achieve. It’s much easier for her to hold a grudge and to go after someone.
19) Biggest TURN ON
Loyalty. If you’re loyal and honest to her, she will fucking burn the world for you.

People who act superior to her when they clearly aren’t. You treat this woman like anything other than a celestial/witch offspring capable of leveling a city you’re getting decked into next week. The only people she’ll tolerate it from are beings who are stronger than her.

Being dominated, being marked/scratched, restraints, being praised 
22) Do they have a perception of god?
She doesn’t worship any gods. But she acknowledges their annoying existence. Some of them she more than tolerates. 
23) A memory from their childhood that shaped them
Literally, you could draw any memory from a hat and she’ll cringe. Her child was hardly enjoyable. Her mother was abusive to her brother so severely that he ran away from home. Her mother disappeared and never came back. Presumably, she died. Then you have the Purefoys who took her in and trained her to basically be an attack dog. After she killed Elizabeth accidentally in a quarrel, she ran to her brother who was later slain in front of her. Her family, in short, really did a number on her.

March 22. Aries.

For the most part Izzy really does fit into the Aries template. She’s honest, driven, passionate, creative, and to an extent, she’s even romantic. But she’s also got a temper and she’s competitive on an unhealthy level.
26) What is ONE thing that they wish they could change about themselves?
How she pushes people away who want to be in her life. She thinks that she’s either protecting them or that they’re just not worth it. But really she would like to think that at some point it’ll be safe enough to have friends and people she loves.
27) A dream that they have never told anyone
Oh, you mean the one where her family doesn’t abuse her all her childhood and she and Castor get to be regular children? It makes her so happy in the moment when she’s sleeping but when she wakes up she hates herself for ever imagining such a thing.

She believes in the Fates and their abilities to weave stories. She also believes that to some extent a person has control over where they wind up.
