The Raffle (Under His Mask Ch.1) - JJK + KSJ
Tumblr media

Summary: Jungkook's luck is on his side when he wins a raffle hosted by his favorite camboy. The winning prize is a chance to sleep with him on camera. But when Jungkook finally gets to meet the handsome performer face to face, they realize they aren't the strangers that they thought they were.
Read on AO3
Jungkook’s entry into the raffle was a complete whim. He’d never had the best luck with that sort of gambling, but it never hurt to try. Especially not when the prizes – even the lowest – were so appealing.
The raffle in question was hosted by one Jinnie Sweet, also known by the handle genies_sweets, a relatively popular camboy who did formal performances weekly, and a few shorter appearances throughout the weeks. Jungkook had been watching the weekly performances since his debut on the adult performer’s scene, and did his best to catch the casual appearances as well.
Jinnie was stunning. Jungkook could say that much with confidence, despite the fact that he had no idea what the young man looked like. Due to strict prostitution laws of their country, Jinnie was forced to remain masked during his shows and pictures that he posted and sold, lest he wind up with a cop at his doorstep. The risk wasn’t entirely mitigated even then; Jungkook knew that there was always a risk that he or Jinnie or any of the other hundred or so individuals that watched him perform would end up arrested or jailed if their VPN somehow dropped or someone got too nosy.
But for Jungkook, it was worth it. Despite not seeing his face, Jungkook was crazy for Jinnie. Not insane levels of stalking, of course, Jungkook would never. Some of individuals he’d seen were bordering on unhealthy in regards to their “love” for Jinnie or other performers. Jungkook was happy to say that he never missed a show, and always set aside a small portion of his paycheck to send to Jinnie’s tip jar in addition to the costs of the shows and photos.
Jinnie’s shows were decently priced – low even, to be honest, for the quality of his performance. He seemed to just genuinely love both sex and performing. He did shows both solo and with other masked camboys and girls, some familiar names, some new up and comers; Jinnie was always eager to promote his fellow performers.
The raffle was a surprise. Jinnie announced it at the end of his one-year anniversary show. There would be five prizes, a custom photo (semi-clothed), a nude custom, an autographed nude photo, an item from his closet - worn during a performance and shipped after, and the grand prize, himself.
Though Jinnie performed with others, he never let them come in him. They could fuck either hole with a condom, they could come in his mouth, but internal creampies had always been off limits. For the grand prize, Jinnie was not only going to allow a fan to do it for the first time, but have it happen during a live performance.
Entry to the raffle was relatively straightforward; each ticket was the same price, and only five tickets per person. It would be open for a month, and he would choose the prizes live at the end of a show. The only stipulation regarding the grand prize winner was that it would be tentative; though he would announce it, it was dependent on an interview with Jinnie for safety reasons. If he was unsure about the winner, or if there were any reasons said winner couldn’t perform live, a second would be chosen, and so on. So, Jungkook gave it a shot. He paid for the five entries, and wondered if maybe, just maybe, he might get lucky enough to win one of the photos.
Tumblr media
He tuned in a month later, having nearly forgotten the raffle until Jinnie mentioned it. He was sitting on his bed, wearing an oversized hoodie, half zipped, and a pair of boxers. His hands were covered in a pair of tight, black leather gloves, littered with rings that varied from slender sliver ones to wide ones that seemed to cover the entire finger.
His mask tonight was a rather cutesy kitten mask that strapped around his head and hid everything above his mouth. Jinnie’s full pout, speckled with a dabble of wet, shining gloss paired with the pink and black kitten face was almost obscene in and of itself. He always wore contacts that darkened or lightened his eyes, a final attempt at anonymity. As he sat, his mouth curved into a gentle smile. He was clearly skimmed the comments flowing in from the viewers as they entered the viewing area. As he leaned back, the hoodie slid off one broad shoulder, revealing a peek of one dark nipple and the shadow of a surgery scar running along his chest.
“I did get your package, Teacakes,” Jinnie said. His voice always sent shocks directly to Jungkook’s groin. It was just the right tone – not too high or low – with a silken sort of sound that Jungkook dreamed of hearing in person.
“It was the perfect size, I think I’ll wear it one of these days.”
Jinnie paused, tucking the corner of his lip into his teeth. He laughed softly, more of a heavy breath.
“Oh, I see – well if you win second place in the raffle, I guess we don’t need to decide the item of clothing after all. Of course, I’m sure lots of folks want to win that… We’ll see how lucky you are.” He moved forward, curving his neck up as he leaned closer to the camera.
Jungkook’s mouth watered, his hand dropping to his lap. The curve of Jinnie’s neck was something he could admire for hours. It was slender and smooth, just the right sized adam’s apple… Jungkook wanted nothing more than to kiss and bite it, leave it with a smattering of tender little bruises. He sighed softly.
Jinnie leaned back, glancing at something off screen.
“About time I start, hm? You aren’t paying to watch me sit around,” he said. “No visitors tonight… I wanted to have some time just with my favorite people.” His smile was stunning.
“Should I take it off?” He asked, touching the zipper of his hoodie.
Jinnie smiled softly, leaning closer to the camera, his eyes – this time covered with contacts that darkened his irises to a rich green – shining in the lights behind the camera.
“Too bad there’s not one of you here to take it off me,” he purred.
He stood slowly, letting the hoodie slide a little more, still zipped over this toned tummy. It slid off his shoulders, and Jinnie slid his hands up and across his chest. He let one hand slide up further, over the back of his neck. He turned, the camera catching his hand as he buried it in his short black hair and yanked. He moaned, letting his mouth fall open.
Jinnie stepped back, shrugging the shoulder back over one shoulder to hold it more stable. He slid the hoodie up, peeking his smooth belly. He tucked his fingers into the waistband of his boxers, opening them a bit and looking down.
“God I’m hard,” he whined softly, one hand sinking lower. The telltale movement at the front of the boxers told everyone he was touching himself.
Without rushing, he removed his hand, bringing it up to his mouth and letting his tongue slip out, curling over the black leather – a slash of pink against the slick, wet black. His eyes fluttered shut and he sank onto the bed.
He reached out, touching something on the nightstand. A soft music began and Jinnie set to work. Moving leisurely, he danced to the music, teasing peeks at his perfect body and flirting with those brave enough to send messages to the chat. Jungkook envied them. To hear Jinnie say his name, even his nickname, once – he’d likely come in his pants just from that. But he was too shy. So, he kept quiet, gave tips, and watched the man he was enamored with dance and sway and perform.
Fifteen minutes in, Jinnie removed his boxers. He giggled at the apparent outrage in the chat when they realized he was being nothing more than a tease; his hoodie was long enough to hide his crotch. He began to sway and move to the music again, allowing only teasing peeks at his tight ass when he leaned over or moved just right. Every little bit the camera angle changed, and Jungkook knew enough from Jinnie’s casual videos that he had a rather complex set up in his performance room, with camera’s placed in various locations, all controlled with a remote he had accessible either in his glove, hoodie, or on the bed. It allowed him to move freely, zoom in or out, and get the perfect angles for his performance.
Thirty minutes in and Jinnie laid back on the bed, spreading his thick, muscular thighs. Jungkook’s mouth dried completely. The camera angle shifted, zooming slowly closer. He’d shaved for this performance, entirely bare save for a light dusting of his dark hair over just his pubic mound. He slid his fingers down, spreading open his folds. The glint of the lights picked up just how wet he was, the vibrant pink shade giving away the level of his arousal. His dick was stiff, jutting out of its hood, darker than the rest.
Jinnie moaned brazenly, dipping two fingers into his hole. He arched, giving the camera a peek at his tight ass as he fingered himself. He wasn’t rushed in his movements, taking time to touch and caress each part of his body, exposing himself without shame to the people watching. Each motion was purposeful, dragging his own pleasure to the edge, and making his viewers crave nothing more than to be there, touch him, taste him, listen to him pant and moan.
Jinnie shifted from his fingers to his sex toys eventually, allowing some of the more vocal viewers to vote on the one he should fuck himself with. The ultimate winner was – blessedly – one of Jungkook’s favorites; a glass piece that was definitely more art than porn. It was in the shape of a sort of blunted horn, clear glass with neon swirls inside it like rainbow smoke. It wasn’t even really the look that appealed to Jungkook, if he was being honest. It was what it did to the beautiful performer spread out on his dark blue bedding.
Jinnie slid the toy over his folds, using his own ample fluids to slick it, before slowly sliding it into his hole. He used his other hand to hold himself open, the angle of the camera giving a perfect view of the blunted tip pushing his tiny hole open, his body gripping each little rib of the horn despite his arousal. Jinnie’s moan was long and rich, raising goosebumps on Jungkook’s arms. Jungkook squeezed his cock, whimpering softly as he watched with rapt attention.
Jinnie shifted, twisting his hips up to ease more of the dildo into his hole. He let his hand slide down, brushing teasingly over his puckered asshole. He moved the camera back a bit, allowing the viewers to see his full body. He was slouching against pillows on the wall, his hoodie spread open and unzipped now to reveal the full beauty of his tight abs. His bare feet were braced on the mattress, thigh muscles tense to keep his legs open. He looked into the camera, lips parted. Soft gasps and moans slipped from his mouth as he began to thrust the toy, his back arching and head falling back against the wall. He moaned the handles of some of the more vocal viewers, begging them to fuck him, touch him, touch themselves, come for him.
Jungkook could have watched Jinnie please himself on that glass toy for hours and wouldn’t have complained about a second of it. But Jinnie’s show was reaching its normal ending time, and Jinnie’s moans were becoming more and more desperate. He slid the toy from his body, letting it trace up his leg where it left an obvious wet streak. His folds were parted, swollen from stimulation and his hole, even from the wider angle, was open, desperate to be filled.
Jinnie reached over and grabbed a small pink toy. It was curved in a c-shape, with one end more bulbous and egg shaped. The other was slimmer, with a small bulge like a ring near the end. He grinned and giggled, running the bulbous end over his mouth and down his chest.
“You all know what this is.” He squeezed his thighs together a moment before opening them again. He slid lower onto the bed, letting one foot fall to the floor. He kept the other raised, forcing himself open obscenely. “Are you going to make me come tonight? You were so close last time, I barely had to touch myself.” He grabbed a small bottle of lubricant from under the pillow and added some to the bulbous end. He pressed what appeared to be a button on the toy before slowly sliding it into his hole. He let his hands rest at his hips, his thighs flexing and soft little gasps escaping his mouth. The toy was paired with the chat room, and set to increase intensity the more tips were dropped into Jinnie’s jar.
Jungkook could see the jar count already rising by leaps and bounds. He too, admittedly, added a bit to the jar, a little surge of pride when, after a deposit from him, Jinnie let out a desperate moan, his hips pumping the air as he struggled for more stimulation.
“That’s it,” Jinnie panted, letting one hand slide up to play with his little dick. “Show me how bad you wanna fuck me. How desperate you are to win that grand prize—Oh!” He shuddered, his body clenching around the toy and shifting it inside him.
“Oh God, I’m close,” he whined, his voice taking on a desperate edge. The camera eased in, still allowing most of his body to show but focusing on the toy.
“Yes,” he panted breathlessly. He rubbed his dick rapidly, the leather slick with lube and his fluids. “Please, oh yes, please fuck me!” His voice rose in pitch and intensity. “Harder, yes, oh God, more — oh, oh—“ Jinnie’s cries broke off.
His stomach clenched and his thighs tensed; beginning to shake. Fluid gushed from around the hot pink toy, as his hole flexed. The intensity of his orgasm forced the toy out with a wet pop, giving a clear view of his front hole, still dribbling fluid, gaped open and silky smooth as his body clenched and released around nothing.
Jungkook gave his own desperate cry at the sight, biting his fist as his cock spurted hot ropes up his bare chest, nearly reaching his throat. He couldn’t tear his eyes away, a desperate urge to sink his fingers, tongue, and cock deep into the beautiful hole on display on his screen.
Jungkook had just recovered enough to wipe his release from his chest and tuck his softening cock back into his sweats when Jinnie sat up, laughing. His hair was mussed and Jungkook was sure his cheeks were a delightful pink under his mask, matching the red mottle on his chest and neck. He slid his hoodie all the way off and scooted back on the bed, exposing a large wet spot where his ass was. He touched it and giggled once more.
“Look what you made me do. Now I’m gonna have to change my sheets.”
He grinned brightly and sat cross legged, leaning back against the wall. “Was that good?” He asked softly.
Despite the mask, it was clear he was feeling the effects of the prolonged performance, his eyelids drooping and his voice softening. “I hope you all came so good with me. I wish I could see you all… Watch you come with your eyes on my body. Maybe someday…” He drifted off, smiling a little distantly.
He spread his thighs, stroking his damp folds almost absentmindedly. “I’m so desperate,” he whispered, barely loud enough to be heard. “I’ve taken so many good cocks and straps on this show… And a few off camera.”
He paused and smirked. “I had my first orgasm that was given by someone else on this show, you know. I’d only ever come by my own hand before… But the first time you all made me come with my little pink buddy— I nearly passed out. And then other performers…” He shook his head. “But all that pleasure and I’m still so needy. I need to feel it. A thick, hard cock pumping into my holes… Twitching inside me and filling me full of their come. I wanna feel it…” he shivered, pushing his fingers into himself.
“God, I wanna get creampied. Watch it drip out of my body, feel so warm and used.” He withdrew his fingers. “Only fair that one of the first people to give me an orgasm should be the first person to give me a warm load, right?” He leaned forward, crossing his legs again and resting his chin on his hands. “Are you all cleaned up? Caught your breath?”
He reached over, picking up a phone. He was careful to keep the screen angled away until whatever he needed was open. Once it was, Jinnie slid forward, shifting the camera angle to show his screen. It was a list of names - handles from the chat room.
“One hundred and twenty-eight people. Almost every one of you guys did all five tickets. I’m so honored, honestly, that you all care that much.”
“I’m gonna start by picking fifth place first. I have a random generator here so it’s totally fair and unbiased.”
He tapped his screen a few times and then held it up. It was a white screen, names cycling rapidly. As it slowed, he turned it back, watching.
Jungkook leaned forward. Over six hundred tickets, he knew his chances were slim to none, but he couldn’t help but get a little hopeful.
Jinnie read off the name and showed it on screen, taking a moment to read the comments. He grinned brightly. “I’m glad you’re excited. I’ll email you tomorrow to discuss what pose and clothes you want me in.  Thank you for your support. Now, fourth…”
Jinnie repeated the steps, another name that was not Jungkook’s. The third place - same steps… Another name that wasn’t Jungkook. His heart sank a little. It was silly, being hopeful…
The second place, the item of clothing, Jungkook held his breath…. But it was once again, not his name. He sighed, leaning back in his chair. Well, that was okay. He still had the weekly shows to look forward to. He turned, digging in his drawer to grab the textbook he’d tucked away; he had a pile of assignments to wade through.
As he opened the book, he registered Jinnie talking about the grand prize. Who won it? He must have missed the name. He glanced up, his breath catching in his throat at how casually beautiful the masked camboy was. His broad, sweat dampened shoulders, his muscular form, his soft jaw and shapely mouth… God he was everything.
At the moment Jinnie’s focus was on his phone, waiting for the names to stop. He smiled softly - it must have been a vocal regular, Jungkook figured.
“Aw,” Jinnie’s voice was soft. “I’m so pleased,” he said. “Now, I see this cutie in here all the time, he’s so devoted. But he’s such a shy little thing, I wonder if he’ll accept his prize. I hope so… I’ve always wondered what he was like...” He turned the phone to display the name as he said it.
“Cooky Boy.”
Jungkook’s vision blurred, his heart stuttering. Surely that wasn’t right — He was delusional. He leaned closer, staring wide eyed at his handle on Jinnie’s phone screen. His body shuddered, a hot flash that ended in a cold chill. Him — Him— He won first prize. He won Jinnie— The honor of meeting Jinnie — Having sex with him.
Jungkook’s hands were shaking so badly be had to retype three words. Finally he managed to hit enter.
 ‘No— No way, me?’
It was stupid, he knew it. Jinnie read the message and laughed brightly. “You, Cooky. If you want.” His smile slipped from bright to something much more lust filled. “Did you come for me tonight, Cooky Boy?” He purred. “Come on, you’re so shy… Talk to me…”
Jungkook swallowed the lump in his throat. He forced his fingers to work, typing out a pathetic response.
‘I came. I shot almost up to my neck when you showed your hole… You’re so handsome.’
Jinnie’s grin broadened, and Jungkook realized with his mask and that smile, he looked like a sexualized Cheshire Cat cosplay. He leaned back a little, spreading his legs again.
“You came when you saw my little hole, hm?” He asked. Jungkook’s gaze dropped to his crotch, where Jinnie spread his folds to reveal Jungkook’s prize. “Real soon I think you’re gonna be coming inside it. Shoot that load deep inside me… Make me come while I’m being filled for the first time. Does that sound good, Cooky?”
Jungkook nodded lamely, swearing at himself.
 ‘Yes’
Fuck, he needed more than that. He typed again.
‘Yes, please. Thank you so much for this honor, I’m in shock, I never believed I’d win.’
“Well, clearly fate wanted it that way,” Jinnie joked. “I’ll email you tomorrow and we can talk details, okay?” He grinned then and sat more upright, closing his legs. “I’m gonna sign off tonight. I wanna thank all of you again for supporting me so often and so much. Honestly, I love all of your guys.” He said. “Tomorrow I’m gonna be running a sale on some of my stuff, discounts on some of my prerecorded videos and digital photos… And keep an eye out, because there’s gonna be some limited physical merchandise coming out tomorrow. I wanted to do something for all of you that participated in the raffle, the turnout was so much more than I expected, so I decided to add this merch at a discount for a limited time for you all.” He pulled his hoodie on and rose, shifting the camera view to one that showed the full bed and him standing there. He grinned brightly and blew a kiss to the camera, winking playfully before ending the show.
Jungkook sat still, staring at the black screen for a solid fifteen minutes after the show ended, feeling like he was in a state of shock. He’d won. By some miracle, he had won this honor. Jungkook was still unsure he wasn’t dreaming. It couldn’t be. He shut off his computer, shutting it and pushing it to the side to try and focus on his assignment. His mind wandered back to Jinnie, hearing his name – even his handle – slipping from those beautiful lips, his name on the phone screen… It felt like a dream, a fantasy, even though it only happened minutes before.
Twenty minutes of attempting his assignment and Jungkook gave up. He snapped the book shut and rubbed his eyes. Bed. He needed to sleep. Maybe he’d wake up in the morning and realize this was all a great dream. He tugged his shirt on and padded into the bathroom, scowling at his reflection in the mirror. Jinnie. He was going to come face to face with a man he idolized… What if he didn’t think Jungkook was handsome enough?
He’d had people tell him over the years he was good looking – but just as many added the backhanded compliments to it as well. Good looking but or good looking if. He didn’t think he was ugly by any standards… But he certainly wasn’t camboy material.
Black hair, neatly cut but shaggy, long enough to just reach his eyes in the front. He’d somewhat recently gotten a brow and lip piercing along with numerous ear piercings over the years, both because he loved the look of them, and because it made the vein in his father’s forehead stick out delightfully.
He’d been working on a design for a tattoo as well, but knew he was already pushing it with the piercings; he had to live with his parents for at least another semester to finish college, and getting kicked out would make that near impossible with the amount of work he was taking on in classes.
He’d been told he had an attractive, symmetrical face and good skin, but his nose was often pointed out due to the size, and his teeth were big – giving him a rabbit-like smile that he both loved and hated. Jungkook knew he had a good body; he loved working out, particularly taking time out of his week to go boxing with his friends. His looks were appealing enough to draw the attention, unfortunately, of the women his age that his father was always attempting to throw at him, and he’d not been entirely unlucky in the queer department either, though his inability to come out to his family had always seemed to throw a wrench in those relationships long before they reached anything serious.
Jungkook sighed heavily, looking away from his reflection to brush his teeth and wash his face. He padded back into his room, flopping on the bed. As he stared up at his dark ceiling his mind wandered. What would it be like? Meeting Jinnie in person. Would he get to see the face under the mask? What would he feel like – would his skin be as smooth and warm as it looks on camera? Would Jungkook be permitted to kiss him? And sex…
A cold sweat broke out over Jungkook’s body. In fantasy, it was fine. In his fantasies he knew exactly how to please Jinnie. In reality… His experience was sorely lacking. What if he couldn’t make him come? What if he came too fast? What if his dick wasn’t big enough? The anxiety washed over him in waves. Jungkook squeezed his eyes shut. It was amazing he’d won, yes… But could he actually go through with it? He took a deep breathing, trying to calm himself. It would do no good to send himself into a panic before he’d even spoken to Jinnie. For all he knew, he wouldn’t meet the qualifications anyways. One step at a time, he knew that. Jumping ten paces ahead would only give him a stomach ache and a sleepless night. Setting his anxiety aside, at least temporarily, Jungkook was able to drift to sleep, his dreams filled fantasies of his beautiful masked crush.

THE 6 BEST PLACES TO VISIT IN EUROPE IN 2021
Anticipating how travel will glance in 2021 is a waste of time. However, what's without a doubt is that this year has hit the delight business hard: the meaningful ventures, the mother and-pop organizations, individuals doing things right. So going in 2021 will not simply be an opportunity to reconnect with ourselves and feel the buzz of showing up in another spot and another headspace, alive to additional opportunities. As it were, it will be our opportunity to decide in favor of the sort of world we need to live in: one of maintainable organizations, environments and networks, instead of people gazing into the seductively empty bereft of a cell phone screen. It will likewise be an opportunity for a considerable lot of us to recall that we live in a mainland that is one of the extraordinary interwoven designs mankind and topography. Here's the place where we'll be going in Europe in 2021, and it feels progressively basic that we as a whole get out and do likewise – and make a decision in favor of euphoria. For more future motivation, look at our manual for the best occasion objections for 2021 and the best UK objections to visit in 2021.
6. THE AZORES
With the conceivable exemption of Iceland, no place in Europe does land dramatization very like the Azores – the Hawaii of the mid-Atlantic, with thickly forested islands bordered by rough precipices that appear to emerge from the nothingness like goliath green knees from an early stage shower. The archipelago, 950 miles from the bank of parent country Portugal, is a position of volcanic cavities, sulphuric natural aquifers, penetrating whales and surf breaks ignored by epic stacks. The archipelago of biospheres and marine stores has likewise been a calm paragon of practical the travel industry, a kind of European response to Costa Rica.
There are ships and little planes to islands like Faial, Pico and São Jorge, yet the majority of the activity occurs on Sao Miguel, which is all around loaded with great spots to remain. The exemplary twofold header is to put in a couple of evenings each at two sister inns: the Azor, with fresh mod-store calculation and a roof pool ignoring the harbor in the principle town of Ponta Delgada; and the Furnas Boutique Hotel up in the mud-percolating volcanic focal point of the island, where the superstar is the dark stone, Japanese-style warm pool.
In Vila Franca do Campo, the whale-watching and plunging area of interest thirty minutes along the south coast from Ponta Delgada, Convento de São Francisco is a 10-room shop in an exquisitely stark seventeenth century religious circle. Different features incorporate the Sete Cidades Lake Lodge, a progression of wood lodges on a kayak prepared lake in the wild north-west; and the Santa Bárbara Eco-Beach resort , a position of low-threw substantial innovation ignoring a long surf sea shore on the north coast.
By need, the food is consistently locavore, from the islands' popular cheeses to uncommon however delightful fish, for example, wreckfish and blue-mouth rockfish, and cozido das Furnas, a seven-meat stew slow-prepared in Furnas' volcanic earth. This is an immortal kind of spot; a profound nature escape, which feels about directly in 2021.
5. DUBROVNIK AND ITS SURROUNDS, CROATIA
Dubrovnik might be a little overwhelmed with Game Of Thrones sightseers, yet there's constantly been a sure wizardry to this limestone fortification on the Adriatic. Also, what's regularly neglected is the thing that an extraordinary beginning stage it is intended for a legitimate experience. Toward the south, it's not exactly an hour's drive past the languid harbor towns of the Dubrovnik Riviera to Montenegro – a country which has step by step been rediscovering its post-war magic, particularly with the impending appearance of a biophilic-innovator inn from Janu, Aman's new more youthful sister brand. Toward the north, it's under three hours to Mostar, an impeccable Bosnian town of fairylit millhouse cafés and Ottoman stone scaffolds, not a long way from the Kravice cascades, with a turquoise swimmable tidal pond encompassed by Niagara-like falls.
Yet, the alternate approach is offshore, towards the vehicle free, tumbledown Elaphiti islands of Koločep, Sipan and Lopud, handily came to by neighborhood ships. The one to visit in 2021 is Lopud, an island of Renaissance-time stone houses, outlandish gardens and demolished fortifications. Its Franciscan religious community is presently open as the five-suite Lopud 1483, following a meticulous 20-year redesign by Swiss workmanship supporter and donor Francesca Thyssen-Bornemisza. She and her family have filled the 5,000-square-meter religious community with Renaissance and contemporary workmanship, a Franciscan drug store and a reflection garden planned by an Arctic shaman, while protecting the unpleasant plasterwork and patina of the antiquated cloister.
4. SKÅNE, SWEDEN
Sweden's southernmost region infrequently gets the inclusion it merits – in huge part in light of the fact that such a lot of buzz is drawn across the Øresund Bridge from Malmö to Copenhagen. Yet, Skåne is certainly worth investigating, from the interwoven appeal of the city to the lakes, wineries and Nantucket-esque clapboard waterfront towns of the rich open country, frequently alluded to as Sweden's larder.
Malmö has large numbers of the things making it work that have put Copenhagen and Amsterdam on each most-liveable rundown going: youthful, bikeable, streaked with trenches and substantial espresso joints, yet additionally home to a wonderfully saved Dutch-Renaissance old town. However it stays more blended than the disobediently elegant Danish city across the water, particularly in regions like Möllevången, a refined, multicultural piece of town referred to local people as Falafel City. Furthermore, Sweden's generally loosened up Covid-19 guidelines have implied that hip locavore frequents, for example, Bastard, Vollmers and the Höganäs Saluhall food corridor, just as zero-squander lunch most loved Restaurang Spill, have clutched their magic heading into 2021.
A sample of Skåne produce is a decent antecedent to an excursion to the open country: regardless of whether south to the sea shore hovels and marram-grass rises of the Skanör-Falsterbo promontory, or north to the clapboard coastline town of Mölle, where the Grand Hôtel Mölle remarkably investigates the stone sea shore and the wild Kullaberg Nature Reserve, with its porpoises and beacon climbs. Past Mölle, Båstad is another exemplary coastline town, with a customary kallbadhus (cold washing house) spa toward the finish of a wooden dock, having a place with the legacy splashed Hotel Skansen. All over the area, which is by and large calmer than the Stockholm archipelago, there's a relaxed feeling of provenance at spots, for example, at the zero-squander Hörte Brygga in the south-west, with its superb water-side nursery in the mid year. Like an European response to New England, this is the most polished of breaks.
3. SALENTO, ITALY
For a genuine Italian break in 2021, we'll head right to the lower part of its heel. Habitually under-staffed as the nation's response to Cornwall, on its own hot recurrence, the Salento district offers an unpleasant cut rendition of the best of Italy – from the nearly Caribbean west coast to the plunging bluffs of the west coast; from Brindisi down to southernmost Santa Maria di Leuca through the florid dream of Lecce, all beasts and limestone sections. This is a dry, ochre-toned place where there is olive forests and precipice hopping kids, too drowsy to even consider having a very remarkable scene. The cucina povera will in general be plain and unfussy: take the shockingly awesome gnummareddi, or sheep offal rolls, served in the walled garden at A Casa Tu Martinu in Taviano; or the barbecued bream at Lo Scalo, incorporated into the bluffs at Marina di Novaglie, and run by the Longo family for 50 years.
In any case, a progression of little savvy stays have increased the game here as of late. For example, the nine-room Palazzo Daniele in Gagliano del Capo, a nineteenth century apartment given a rich mod-devout makeover by hotelier Gabriele Salini – where travel disruptor Thierry Teyssier dispatched his 700,000 Heures 'fleeting inn' idea. Or on the other hand Masseria Canali, a low-threw, seven-room estate of curves and collectibles west of Brindisi, which opened for takeovers this late spring with a pool deserving of A Bigger Splash.
2. TIMIȘOARA, ROMANIA
This western Romanian city is regularly alluded to as Little Vienna, with its stupendous Habsburg Secessionist structures and roundabout downtown area. In truth, it's not as glossily refined as the Austrian capital, however that is the point. Indeed, even in its stupendous focus, the primary spot in Europe to have electric streetlamps, Timișoara doesn't feel like a scam. Also, as other Romanian urban communities, including Cluj-Napoca and Sibiu, there's a discernible feeling of energetic good faith in this understudy town. A large number of the city's foundations have the vibe of somebody's parlor – like Scârț Loc Lejer, a bric-a-brac bar possessed by a craftsman's group, with a congested nursery, a bordering theater and a gallery of Communist commercialization in the cellar. Somewhere else, there are hopping club evenings at underground Database and practices at the graffiti'd Aethernativ Café, with faint echoes of early Noughties Berlin.
There are celebrations in Timișoara for everything from world music to film, Romany workmanship and jazz, the last of which has consistently been enormous here, in any event, when Ceaușescu pushed it underground. The National Opera House has drama and expressive dance works of art, with tickets at the cost of an IPA in London, and the craftsmanship goes from a road workmanship display in a street passage to the Muzeul de Arta's assortment of wry pictures by Corneliu Baba. All of which drove it to be named European Capital of Culture for 2021, an assignment which might get pushed back a couple of years in the wake of Covid-19. Name or not, this is a legitimate city of culture, and definitely worth a city break.
1. CHANIA, CRETE, GREECE
While its Ottoman-affected harbor and spaghetti bowl of cobble-stoned roads are gently delightful, Chania is sneaking up all of a sudden with regards to its food. From basic ocean side bistros to lovely Cretan high end food, this city on the north-west shore of the Greek island has a select yet rapidly growing scene that is tricking in master palates.

Steve here. Mary Beth and I try to show off our tans in a pic from home. We are just lucky people, and the story of our departure from Ecuador is a perfect example. Last Friday (a lifetime in Coronavirus time) Mary Beth and I decided we should leave Ecuador early for one simple reason, Mary Beth wanted to be home more than 14 days before her scheduled surgery. No other reason, just that, and we figured it would take until Monday to get everything scheduled. So, Mary Beth the travel expert started by contacting our driver José to see if he could drive us the seven hours to the Quito airport. He said yes, so then she struggled through a Delta change of flights, finally getting us on the Monday night 11:30 flight, getting us to Atlanta, then on to Hartford. It cost an extra $600 and Mary Beth hesitated, but we decided it was worth it for the surgery date. So, driver and flights set, we let our landlord know and begin to prepare. On Saturday, the Ecuadorian government announced that they were closing the airport and all their borders on Monday at midnight, and like many places, closing restaurants and bars, restricting domestic travel etc. this started a bit of panic for foreigners, although humorously Bahia, our little isolated city just continued on as usual. We were concerned, but we did have a reservation so all we could do was wait. On Monday morning, we checked in with Delta, chose two of the four remaining seats (not together of course) and got more anxious. Jose arrived that morning and said even car travel was restricted but we would take off. He stopped to show us some beaches and the beautiful town of Mindo that we were supposed to visit on our way home. We had a rainy walk in an orchid reserve and saw tons of big hummingbirds, arriving at the airport at 6:00 for an 11:30 flight. At that point, only people with tickets were being admitted to the airport.
Most flights from Quito come and go late at night because of the winds, and in addition to our flight, there was one to Miami and one to Dallas, all around 11:30. There were a few people in the airport without tickets who had either tricked their way or were still there from Sunday. Those without tickets were understandably frantic, but the rest of the people were very subdued but with tension in the air. By 6:30 people were lining up at the Delta area even though the area wasn’t opening until 8:30. By 7:30 we joined the line which grew very long by 8:30 when it started to move. We were without boarding passes while everyone around us had one, so another piece to worry about. We got through the line, checked bags and got boarding passes, a huge relief. I figured at this point, Delta owned the two of us and it was their responsibility to get us out. On our way to security, we passed a line of 10 or 12 people, mostly Americans who were waiting on Stand-By. It was a sad scene, and everyone was generally quiet and keeping to themselves at this point, as there was some fear in the room. The waiting area was packed, and the Delta flight from Atlanta was late. The Miami and Dallas flights left, and at 11:30 boarding began. Mary Beth and I laughed as we watched the Mormon young volunteers board in first class while our boarding was the very last group in the airport. At 12:18 Tuesday morning, we lifted off and were safely out of Ecuador. In Atlanta, customs was a breeze, but at 6:30, TSA was a disaster, no Pre-Check open and well over an hour to get through security. It could be a story in itself, but now, let’s just say there was no organization at all. As we stewed, we missed our Hartford flight, which frightened us yet again, but there was another at 10:00 AM and we were in the Uber and in our condo by 2:00PM, exhausted but safe and sound. One comment about all of this, from Quito to Atlanta to Hartford, not one official said even one word about Coronavirus. We did not get a piece of paper, a temperature taken, a comment about precautions, a suggestion of what we should do on arrival home, nothing. We may as well have been in an August flight from DC. Weird we thought.

What Otome Has Taught Me About Writing Romance (and Some Other Things)
Alright, time for me to come clean about my love for visual novels and otome games. (Otome, if you're not familiar with it, is a genre of games with female protagonists that tells a love story, allowing the player to choose a suitor and make choices along the way that influence the ending. It's fantastic fun.) Aside from being an excellent little diversion, it's actually proved to be a useful tool when it comes to writing elements of romance into any WIP.
On with the Show
Otome games tend to be relatively short, so they need to pack a lot in to every chapter or episode. The best of them manage to cram in a full range of emotion and a cohesive plot to forge a memorable experience in relatively few words. I'm not suggesting that novels or other fictional formats need to be stripped down to their barest word counts, but there's something extremely valuable about being able to convey important elements of a story with economy. For one thing, your readers are probably busy people, just like you. They don't have unlimited time to read all the things they want to read, and if you spend too much time saying nothing at all (like in exposition), they might drop your story in favor of something else.
Now, there's no perfect formula for when to launch into the action of a story - each one is different and calls for something different! Personally I love to have some time for introduction at the start of a novel, not just so that I know who the characters are, but also so that I have a chance to crawl inside the world and live there before having serious plot to keep up with. That said, I have a 100 page rule - I only require myself to give a book 100 pages to convince me to stay. If I hit page 100 and I'm still saying, "what is this book going to be about? when is something going to happen?" there's a very good chance I'm outta there.
In contrast, if you jump into the deep end of the action immediately, readers may lack a sense of why they're supposed to care. These characters are distressed? That's a bummer, but if the reader never sees who they are and what their lives are like without the drama, they may have less passion for seeing that drama resolved. Like everything else in writing, this is a balancing act. It's all about finding your sweet spot so the progression from opening your book's cover to finding yourself swept into the narrative can seem as natural as possible and get the best emotional and intellectual investment from your readers.
Cheap Drama Feels Cheap
Your readers are intelligent people. Don't try to fool them into thinking there's real drama and suspense somewhere there's not because they'll be able to tell right away. It's annoying to most readers, especially when excellent characters - like yours! - are wasted on it. The otome routes that get dropped somewhere in the middle and receive the absolute worst reviews are the ones that feature the 'easily-resolved misunderstanding' trope. It's. The. Worst.
Terrible misunderstandings happen all the time in real life and in fiction, and the ensuing conflict (or disaster) can be extremely rewarding for the audience. "NO!!" it will make them scream as they clutch the book thinking about how it doesn't have to be this way. If only the characters knew, if only they realized! It's not the unnecessary nature of the issue that makes it cheap - it's how easily it's resolved. If there's an easy answer conveniently within your characters' grasp and no reason for them to not realize it or not take it, it will bug your readers.
One of the most infamous examples is when the female protagonist glimpses her suitor for a total of 20 seconds innocently talking to/hugging/putting a hand on the shoulder of/etc. an unidentified girl, and immediately sprints away, tears streaming from her eyes, despairing that the man she adores does not really love her after all and has been unfaithful. O woe, that this strange woman was chosen over her! Curse the vixen who stole her suitor's heart! The female protagonist then uproots everything good that was happening, abandons it all and runs far away. She ignores his and everyone else's attempts at communication until, in a crescendo of needless drama, the suitor travels a great distance to corner her and say,"yo, that was my sister."
Are you rolling your eyes? You should be rolling your eyes. Think of all the things anyone with any sense could have done in this situation. Stayed for another minute to hear the conversation. Walked up and asked to be introduced. Left after a minute or two, but asked about it later. Answered the phone when he called.
The bottom line is this: don't let your story's conflicts have easy answers. Especially not multiple easy answers. Take away the simple resolutions! Make every option cost your characters something!
Emotion Must Be Earned
I mentioned above that if you dive into the drama of your story too quickly, you risk losing the readers' investment in your characters and plot. That's because emotion must be earned. This goes for both your readers and your characters.
You can't just tell your readers they should care about what's happening to your characters and actually expect them to. Even if you have the cutest, most squee-worthy romantic scenes in store, they'll feel hollow without the proper buildup. This happens all the time in otome (and other forms of fiction) where it seems like the writer was in a hurry to just get to the butterfly-inducing romance already! You read through a scene, and oh my gosh that dialogue nearly made you swoon, but... when that initial "OMG" fades, you're left feeling like something was missing. That thing was the feeling of resolved tension, or a triumph over struggles - something to make you say, "Finally!"
You have to make them work for it. It's not about being super clever, or surprising your reader with the build of emotions or the happily ever after. No one starts an otome game under the impression the main characters may not fall in love, after all. But there has to be something that keeps them apart for a while, some will-they-won't-they limbo, or that "ohohoho they're catching feeeelings!" process that makes the characters coming together feel like a win.
The bottom line is this: When romances are quickly and easily achieved, they feel cheaper.
You Can't Rush Love
The characters need some understandable reasons for feeling as they do about one another, as well. Even if it's some intangible 'it' factor that can't quite be explained, readers want to really feel like these people belong together. Otome routes with multiple seasons can fall into this trap pretty easily. When the writers want to get from the first season story of meeting and falling in love directly to season two getting married and talking about babies, it can feel like something very important was skipped. Like where their relationship naturally progressed and grew from that new, fresh whirlwind romance to serious life plans. (This works the worst when there's no time jump at all, or very little time is supposed to have passed.) The wedding and baby dialogue may be as swoony as Pride & Prejudice, but readers still don't want to have the nagging question "How did these people get to this point in their relationship?" in the back of their minds.
Sometimes this happens without time jumps or milestones, and the couple seems to leap from flirtation and new possibilities to 'I-would-die-for-you-and-without-you' levels of love. Like above, maybe it leads to great scenes, and maybe this part of the story is actually very well written, but if you're left asking "what did I miss?", there's a problem there. Along with earning your readers' emotional investment, you have to earn their belief. As a writer, it's your job to convince readers that this is a relationship worth rooting for - something that can last, or at least burn brightly before its bittersweet ending. If it's real love, your readers have to be able to grasp why: why these people are a couple, why they're meant to be, etc.
Keep 'Em Coming Back
If you've played much otome at all (particularly free-to-play mobile otome), you're familiar with the typical ticketed reading system. In most of these games, you only get to read about half a chapter a day unless you pay for additional tickets, divided up into about five shorter segments. Along the way there are often checkpoints you have to pass by raising scores by completing tasks and mini-games and the like - and sometimes it takes a while (several days or even a week or two) to obtain the resources you need to continue reading!
And what's this got to do with writing? One word: pacing.
In otome, the story has to be good enough and each cut-off tantalizing enough that you 1) cash in all your free tickets each day, 2) want to come back each day to keep reading, and 3) are motivated to take the time to pass checkpoints. This means the game writers have to master their cliffhanger game as well as overall pacing. Not all the cliffhangers are of the type that probably jumped to mind upon first reading this. It doesn't always have to be a sudden and imminent danger, a shocking revelation, or other plot twist. Often it's dangling a sweet, romantic moment in front of players or otherwise developing a character through backstory or some meaningful event. The romance genre is largely about discovering the character of a person, all their dimensions and convolutions, and that journey of discovery can be an extremely useful tool for maintaining interest chapter to chapter and throughout the story.
Usually, if an otome route is going to drag, it's going to be in the middle. Perhaps this is because the writers had few compelling ideas for that portion of the plot, which is another topic for another day, but regardless of the genesis of the problem, it can kill a story. Life is busy, time for games and reading is limited, and content to play and read is plentiful. If a story becomes dull for a long stretch in the middle with no end to the doldrums in sight, it can easily be abandoned and forgotten about. At the same time, things can't be explosions and adrenaline-fueled car chases all the time. The less glamorous, less obviously exciting bits of a story are often where its soul takes shape and future payoffs are set in motion, so the trick is not to eliminate the quiet moments but to intersperse moments that make readers need something new. New questions they need answered, new angles they need explored, new emotions they need to experience again.
Your writing is not likely to be diced up to the extent an otome game is, but it's equally important to keep the middle from sagging and to provide that "just one more chapter!" feeling for your readers. Be careful not to make too many assumptions about the attention spans of readers - they need to be kept wanting more!
Don't Drag Out the Dark
Most people like a solid infusion of angst into their media. There's nothing wrong with a dark night of the soul your characters and readers can experience together, but you have to make sure there's some promise of dawn. If things get too abysmal for too long, people may be tempted to put the story down. I myself have been on hiatus with an otome game I absolutely love for more than too years because the route I was playing was simply too depressing! Life has a lot of challenges in store for all of us, and seeing fictional characters triumph over their own hardships can make even the darkest times more bearable. It's important to remember, however, that readers invest heavily in your characters - their burdens become the readers' burdens. Even when life isn't putting you through your paces, you can have a long day, and at the end of a long day, you may not have the energy to plunge headlong into the enduring agony of a novel. If readers feel like the terrible things happening to your characters are never going to end, they may simply lose the will to keep reading, despite loving what you've set up.
Like anything else, it's about balance. As readers, we tend to like being strung along by glimpses of better times ahead, or at least something to make the struggles worthwhile. Happiness makes pain more meaningful. Peace makes strife more striking. There has to be substance to the sadness. A reason for it, and an end to it - even if the ending is tragic. Be creative about what constitutes a good reason (a lesson learned, a sacrifice made, etc.) and also take into account what you advertise vs. what you deliver. (i.e. readers will be much more amenable to a sorrowful tale if they knew that's what they were getting into than if they were sold a happy-go-lucky romcom.)
At the end of the day, what's most important is how the story makes you feel.
I never pay for otome games. I opt for free-to-play offerings instead, and this has in no way impacted the quality of games I've had access to. Most of my favorites are not those with all the bells and whistles like animation and voice acting, those with the highest art budgets, or those from the most popular companies. They're the ones that people poured their hearts into and created earnestly and lovingly, starting where they were and using what they had.
And that is the bottom line of every piece of writing advice I could ever give. A lot of flaws can be overlooked in favor of the emotions a story evokes. Who cares if it was not told as artfully as another so long as it made you feel something real? Storytelling skills are marvelous, but when all is said and done, it's not the telling that matters most. The story itself is what counts.
I hope you believe in the story you have inside of you. I do! Thanks for making it to the end of this super long post (sorry but only kind of) and please feel free to share your thoughts on this topic with me.

Personal GUIDE - Love and Producer EN (Mr Love Queen’s Choice) - EVENTS, Gavin Birthday event

(NOTE: the picture is just Part 1 of the event)

PLEASE DON’T STEAL, COPY OR POST ELSEWHERE.

Small note: The “bigger” events are usually 7 days, while “smaller” events like Stone Locket and 2x Elite Drop whom are only 2-3 days. Limited Karma gacha are 10 days, and then there are some really special events that lasts 1 month.
Events where there are 4 SSR cards are around 40k gems.
Events with only 1 SR card are around 8k gems.
Do not use that number as an exact estimate of how much this card will cost.
One important thing to note is that Love and Producer doesn’t really revival events. Ever since the game launched back in 2017, I’ve only twice seen them bring an event back, which was the first week of June and July 2019. Limited cards are exactly that: limited.
So save up your items and hope your account has some amazing luck!
EVENTS, Gavin Birthday event
Tumblr media
If you played Kiro’s Birthday event, Kiro In the Heart, this is the exact same. Or it’s a tiny bit different, this one has 3 parts instead of 2, and there are a few extra things added as well. The prizes are the same: two limited birthday cards, one R card and one SR card.
Here’s what the event looks like:
Tumblr media
The number bar to the left shows the points needed for specific rewards. 2200 is the R card and 8000 is the SR card.
Part 1: Booking Breeze.
Tumblr media
Complete missions to collect event items Star Cake and Eyemask. (it’s the purple and blue items you see in the picture) When you finish a column, like Bingo, you can get the rewards for that row. Get 32 Eyemasks and 7 Star Cake. Aim for clearing the whole board. When you finish it, you can send a personal invitation to Gavin.
Part 2: City Stroll
Do City Stroll to collect more event items. This drops a third item, Gavin’s house key, which are used for part 3. Get up to 90 Eyemasks. Don’t forget to read the scenes with Gavin this time! There are limited time special scenarios when you meet him during Strolls!
Part 3: “Shoots”
Tumblr media
Complete Shoots/Stages to collect more Star Cake. Remember you can only use Gavin and Other cards. (meaning no Kiro, Victor or Lucien). Like any limited time Shoots/Stages, there are only 5 daily free tries. Any more has to be bought for Gems. As you can see, there are 6 Shooting stages. The 3 with the Ginkgo leaf are birthday stories. Every try will give you a Star Cake, and on rare occasions you can get 2 Star Cake.
Remember the Gavin House Key I mentioned in part 2? This can be used here in part 3, to reset the Shooting Stage, meaning you get extra free tries. Extra tries cost 3 Gems each, as always.
Rewards: *Only including the cards in the picture*
Tumblr media
Other rewards are Stamina, Gold, Gems, etc. etc.
Give Gavin the event items you collected. Star Cake gives more points than Eyemask.
So how much do you have to spend to get these cards?
Obviously you can’t get the SR card with the 5 daily free tries, you have to spend Gems to buy more tries.
Remember: There will, as always, be special limited event Evol packs. These packs are always worth it, if you are going to spend money, because they give additional things like a lot cheaper Gems, tickets, Stamina, or other things.
Based on the original event from Chinese, the event lasted 7 days.
Eyemask are 2 points, Star Cake are 9 points.
That means 7 x 6 x 5 = 210
At max the cost is 1935 Gems, average was around 1,8k.
Basically, it’s 100 Gems more than Kiro’s Birthday card, Kiro In the Heart.
Let’s look at the math:

Here are the materials needed to Star Up and Evolve:

Written for the @klarosummerbingo Klarosummer Bingo Event prompt: Shakespeare in the park
The sweat stung her eyes as Caroline helped Bonnie lift the unwieldy metal archway from the pristine lawn, wondering if Matt’s beat-up truck bed would be long enough to transport it back to the park where the rest of their theater group had started building the sets. The Shakespeare in the Park Event was going to be a success; Caroline had put too much of herself into the pre-production planning to let it all fall apart now. Even if their flighty director Sibyl had decided at the latest minute to turn this year’s production of Titus Andronicus into a fusion Western.
Because of the last-minute changes, she and Bonnie had been scrambling to source low-cost props that would transform the production sets into an Old West-style town with a Shakespearian twist. To help stretch their meager budget, Caroline had the brilliant idea to drive around the fancier side of town on trash collection day to see if they spotted any furniture that could be repurposed.
“You know, all this dumpster diving could’ve been avoided if you’d just played nice with Damon,” Bonnie grumbled as she struggled to hold up her end of the metal structure. “I know he’s a jerk, but he’s Stefan’s brother and agent and he convinced Stefan to star in the production for free to boost ticket sales. He even offered to pay for the set costs; all he wanted was—”
She shook her head violently, nearly adding another dent to Matt’s battered fender. “Was for the female cast to agree to a gross version of ‘Girls Gone Wild’ theater edition calendar as part of the promotional materials. It’s one thing to celebrate the female form, but another to make it mandatory for the entire female cast. I shut that shit down as soon as Sibyl brought it to me.”
Bonnie awkwardly cleared her throat, telling her quietly, “Oh. Um, I didn’t realize that’s what he was after. I just overheard him ask Sibyl for the girls to do some promotional posters. I didn’t know about that part of it.” Grunting under the weight of the archway, her tone turned outraged as she added, “To hell with Damon then. We don’t need his help.”
“Exactly,” Caroline nodded, using the corner of her t-shirt sleeve to wipe her sweaty forehead. She recalled with a pang that in addition to their concerns about sourcing props, they still hadn’t cast the lead, Tamora, the Bandit Queen. Normally, anyone in their theater group would relish the opportunity to play such a well-written villain, but everyone knew that it would mean sharing almost every scene with the other lead, Titus, who’d be played by Stefan.
While Stefan was a classically trained actor whose enviable professional career included numerous Broadway productions and several well-known Indie film accolades, behind the scenes, he was a pompous ass who clearly thought his talent allowed him to rise above common manners...and hygiene. Apparently, he was in the middle of a durian fruit and fermented soybean paste juice cleanse that made him smell like an outhouse in July and the organic sardine oil hair gel he insisted on wearing made one’s eyes water if you got too close.
Caroline sighed in exasperation, “Can’t you just play Tamora this one time? Sibyl’s getting desperate and she’s one crazy eye twitch away from making us meditate underwater to commune with our inner siren. Again.”
“Nope. Besides, it’s just like Demetrius says in Act 2: ‘She is a woman, therefore must be wooed.’ So far, no one’s done much to woo me into taking this role. Let’s just stall a bit longer. Surely some nitwit will stupidly volunteer because Stefan’s their sad little celebrity crush.”
Caroline favored her friend with a small smile, hoping she was right. She tossed Bonnie several bungee cords and began tying down the archway to make sure it didn’t fall out of the truck when she heard a woman’s indignant screech.
“What the bloody hell do you think you’re doing; traipsing about our lawn as though you lived here?”
They both looked up to see an intimidatingly beautiful blonde come storming out of the impressive colonial-style mansion, waving her arms angrily at the truck. Following close at her heels was an equally attractive man with a dimpled smirk, and Caroline inwardly questioned whether a free archway was worth what looked like an exasperating conversation.
“We were careful not to step on your flowerbeds,” she called out, wondering what the big deal was, “and your gardener told us that you’d approved the removal of the archway to be tossed out on trash day. Since you didn’t want it, we’re repurposing it.”
The blonde crossed her arms, eyeing Caroline’s paint-stained t-shirt and cutoff shorts disdainfully. “Do you just flit through posh neighborhoods, collecting rubbish then?”
A frown crossed the handsome man’s face, and he hissed, “That’s enough, Rebekah.” He stepped forward, offering his hand for Caroline to shake as he introduced himself. “I’m Klaus, and this vengeful harpy is my sister, Rebekah.” He gestured toward the legs of the archway that Bonnie had been struggling to tie down. “And yes, the gardener had been instructed to toss that out. Do you need any help making it secure?”
“Honestly, brother, the blonde doesn’t look particularly discerning. I’m sure offering to buy her a beer would require less effort and produce the same results.”
Caroline felt her temper flare, but she didn’t have time to get into it with whatever crippling insecurities this woman had dragged with her into adulthood. She also saw that familiar vicious smile of Bonnie’s, the one that had signaled two separate brawls down at the Mystic Bar and the super-charged prune and apricot laxative in an ex’s drink. She quickly said, “I’m Caroline and that’s Bonnie. We’re out looking for things we could turn into props for our local theater group. Bonnie, why don’t you get them a flyer out of the front seat?”
Bonnie ungraciously thrust the flyer at Klaus, who immediately seemed intrigued by the unique Old West-inspired wanted poster that formed the background of the ad. “You’re performing Titus Andronicus as a Western,” he asked, a healthy bit of skepticism in his accented voice as he said dryly, “That’s one of those creative ventures that’s either positively inspired or sheer madness.”
“It can be two things,” Caroline cheerfully agreed as she helped him secure the remaining side of the metalwork into the truck bed.
Klaus chuckled, sharing a smile with her that made her grateful for the already stifling morning so he would assume she was just flushed from the heat. His tone turned thoughtful as he offered, “Actually love, if you’re searching for pieces to help sell the Old West atmosphere, there’s some leftover ceiling beams from when we remodeled the downstairs study — perhaps they could be made into a fence? In fact, I happen to have some kits leftover to transform pieces into more of an antique woodgrain appearance if you’d like to have them.”
Caroline’s eyes lit up with wonder. “That sounds perfect, thank you!” She did her best not to fidget under his warm gaze, trying to sound casual as she asked, “Uh, do you maybe want to stop by the park sometime to see how the sets are coming along?” She caught the teasing little half-grin on Bonnie’s face and knew she’d hear all about it later.
“I’d be honored,” he quickly answered, that accent of his doing fluttery things to her stomach that Caroline was helpless to ignore.
“Really, you’d offer utter strangers African mahogany,” Rebekah scoffed, snatching the flyer from Klaus.
While Caroline had no idea what that actually meant, from the way the tips of his ears reddened, it sounded like their production company just received an unexpected windfall. As Bonnie was texting Jeremy to bring his truck over to pick up Klaus’ generous donation, an odd, strangled noise came out of the angry blonde that made everyone glance over in surprise.
“You’re part of the Shakespeare in the Park Event,” she asked faintly, her perfectly manicured hands shaking slightly as she seemed to be rereading the same few lines on the flyer in disbelief. “You get to work with Stefan Salvatore, one of the greatest modern talents of both stage and screen?”
Bonnie raised an eyebrow, telling her flatly, “Yeah, he’s playing Titus, the reformed bank robber returning to his family’s homestead. So far, it’s been...something.”
Rebekah’s entire demeanor changed, and she was practically bouncing as she gushed, “I’ve seen all of his shows on Broadway and his movies and I’d wanted to stop by the park for an autograph but was told it was a closed rehearsal. I’d do anything to meet him!”
Caroline exchanged a sly look with Bonnie, who looked positively gleeful. “Well, as it so happens, we need someone to play Tamora...”
