So like one common theme when discussing bullying is the tendency for bullies to project their insecurities on their victims right? like them taking their own shit out on the people they bully?
so i know that may not be exaaaactly the case with Max Jagerman in Nerdy Prudes Must Die like the dude even in the afterlife just really fuckin likes terrorising the shit out of people due to his god complex BUUUUT what I found very interesting was when in the Nerdy Prudes Must Die sequence, he was telling Richie to repeat after him: "Who will pray for me when my body's gone or until another Richie comes along?" And mind you, this song comes directly after another musical sequence about all the teens in that high school being so fucking happy that Max was gone. And like, well yea you can't blame the kids for being happy that Top Terrorizer #1 is gone and that they don't have to abide by his social strata anymore - but then again, having nobody pray or give a fuck about Max after him being mysteriously missing for 2 weeks is,,kinda fucked up for Max no matter the kind of person he is. So, to see someone he victimised get the attention and appreciation I would assume Max would've wanted from his team especially after being missing for so long - it really does seem to me that he was projecting onto Richie when he was about to kill him and making him feel how little he will matter to other people when he dies - like what he could've felt after literally everyone considered the high school "objectively better" now that Max was gone.
Which makes things a whole lot more interesting when Max snaps out of his WHO WILL PRAY FOR YOU solo when Richie belts out I'M NOT A LOSER - henceforth defying the idea of worthlessness Max was projecting onto Richie. So damn.

Astarion: You were by my side through all of this. Through bloodlust and pain and misery. You were patient. You cared. You trusted me when that was an objectively stupid thing to do.

I don't begrudge anyone their campaign preferences, and I think there's plenty of valid reasons to like Campaign 3 the best and this is not directed at people who are genuinely having a great time with it, but it feels like virtually all the nostalgia and wishful thinking I see surrounding Campaign 3 is screaming "you guys want Campaign 2." You want more slow travel and downtime and interparty conversations and slow-burn romance? You wish their main focus was fighting governmental corruption? You want a party that only semi-settles down at the end and keeps adventuring and remains very close? You're frustrated by how everpresent and overarching the moon plot is? You miss when they were just fucking around in a city? I genuinely believe you want Campaign 2, or at best you love a specific ship or a character from Campaign 3 but aren't happy about basically anything else, and would vastly prefer the tone and events and plot of Campaign 2. And I don't really care if you watch Campaign 2, or if you think I'm being annoying here; I simply genuinely believe you'd be happier watching Campaign 2 than Campaign 3 and are so deep in a sunk cost fallacy well you can't see it.

While talking to @menciemeer, something came up re: Jack’s motivations for being in Italy in season 3 that I haven’t seen discussed much - and that is that he’s explicitly there not to catch Hannibal, but to save Will. Here’s his dialogue with Pazzi in Secondo:
Jack: If he hasn’t already, Il Mostro will return to Florence. Pazzi: Come back with me. We have a chance to regain our reputations and enjoy the honours of our trade by capturing the monster. Jack: I’m not here for the monster. Not my house, not my fire. I’m here for Will Graham.
This is even more striking in light of the context for his character that the very next episode gives us - his conversation with Chilton in Aperitivo establishes that he’s been forced into retirement with the FBI, but he’s not interested in regaining his standing or reputation. (Very odd in light of the fact that come the Red Dragon plot, he seems to still have his old job in Behavioral Science). Chilton tries to get him to use Will as bait to find Hannibal:
Chilton: Will is going to lead you right to him. Jack: Oh, no, he’s not. Not to me. I’ve let them both go. I’ve let it all go. Chilton: You dangle Will Graham and now you cut bait? You’re letting Hannibal have him hook, line, and sinker. Jack: You’ll excuse me, Dr. Chilton. I like to be home in the evenings when my wife wakes.
What stands out about this exchange is Chilton’s “letting Hannibal have him” phrasing. It foregrounds not subduing Hannibal, but preventing Will from succumbing to his worst impulses, as a central motivation for Jack in 3A. It’s also significant that it’s his need to care for Bella that leads him to defer pursuing anything relating to Hannibal or Will, because her death is framed within the episode as the impetus for his investment in following Will to Europe - as he tells Will in the funeral scene, “you don’t have to die on me, too.”
So much of Jack’s character arc in the first two seasons is juggling his repeated sacrifice of others for the greater good. His guilt over what befalls both Will and Miriam features prominently in season 2, and during Will’s trial, he’s already prepared to put his career and reputation on the line to stand up for Will and atone for what he feels is his role in Will’s downfall. Both the traumatic events of Mizumono and Bella’s death bring about more of a full turnaround in that direction - Jack becomes less invested in apprehending killers in service of public safety, and more invested in saving the specific person who’s been harmed by that project.
I think this motivation doesn’t always stick in people’s minds because these exchanges get eclipsed by Jack beating Hannibal to a bloody pulp a couple episodes later, as well as his inexplicable return to working for the FBI in 3B. But even in the former altercation, his fight with Hannibal feels personal, more about venting anger and grief than actually apprehending Hannibal. In Dolce, when Will asks why Jack didn’t kill Hannibal, Jack responds “maybe I need you to” (in the same exchange, of course, as “you need to cut that part out”). That scene also establishes clearly that Will and Jack are, like Pazzi, “outside the law and alone.” As in Mizumono, they’re effectively vigilantes - and Jack’s mission is not serving justice for the FBI, but in saving Will from Hannibal’s influence.
This is why, despite the fact that Jack is once again embroiled in FBI business in season 3B, I always envision his role post-canon as being a continuation of what haunts him in the first half of the season - less about catching or killing Hannibal than about rescuing Will. It’s a lot more compelling to me, at least, than him simply continuing to be the face of law enforcement.

you ever think about how MK never gets a chance to really define himself?
#had this thought while driving home#like he barely even gets any chance to place some identity other than monkie kid and delivery boy bc he always gets interrupted#every villain has their own preconceived notion on who and what he is#Demon Bull family saw him as a ‘little thief’ and ‘noodle boy’#Spider Queen called him junior or something????#Macky even told MK that he is nothing w/o the staff. He also projected a lot of his anger with swk to MK bc he saw a lot of similarities#LBD did one better and shattered his own self worth by feeding into his insecurities and trying to mold him into her pawn (champion? will w#ever know what she wanted and why she wanted Mac to capture mk and swk???? what was their role that she wanted them to play???)#Azure even tries to assert his own perceptions on MK in the special and oh boy how he snaps back (🥰 so satisfying)#‘Oh there’s nothing mindless about me…friend’ <- one of the rare times MK puts his foot down when other try to assume what he is#I betchu s5 will focus on MK grappling with his identity bc we laid some foundations he is ok with acknowledging it#But actually processing what this meant for him? I have a guess that he wants to avoid that#And the ironic part is that swk (if he knew which I think so) is now the one trying to get MK to communicate his thoughts and feelings#It’s swk who warned MK about the dangers of hiding or avoiding huge issues like having a giant & powerful monkey form#bc swk has spent like the past 3 seasons doing the opposite of what he’s preaching to MK at the special (this is why i love him he’s trying#lmk#lego monkie kid#lmk mk#lmk qi xiaotian#qi xiaotian

i like to give characters the happiest possible outcomes whenever i fill up canon gaps (in time-skips, mainly) and i love the idea of 10-year timeskip orihime living this idyllic slice-of-life adventure where she makes daily deliveries for the bakery and meets many people on her route – cats, little old ladies, preschoolers on their way to school, maybe the occasional ghost or two – and she always greets them, and sometimes they greet her back when she whizzes past them on her bicycle. and maybe there are days where the sales don't go so great or someone says something a little off-putting, but this is still the life she enjoys living and she still has friends to text and meet up, still has a warm, lovely-smelling bakery to return to, still has people to smile at and deliveries to make!! she's alive and it feels good!!

#persona 4#p4#persona 4 golden#p4g#hanamura yosuke#yosuke hanamura#souyo#this was an interesting scene for a lot of reasons#for context naoto goes out to take a breather and yu follows with yosuke following behind yu.#yosuke cracks a joke to lighten the mood (something i've already talked about a lot is making jokes is yosuke's fall back to raise morale)#there's 3 things happening here - yosuke opts to go outside with yu to cheer yu up instead of staying in to cheer up the rest of the team#so it kind of implicitly suggests that like it or not yosuke kind of still prioritises yu - that yu is the first person yosuke looks to#but it also comes closely at the heels of that moment in the hospital room with namatame and i think this is very much a scene where#yosuke is testing the waters with his r/s with yu like “hey we're good right” by making a joke so that things btwn them feel normal again#and finally it's something that i don't think even yosuke himself realises - HE is the catalyst to yu's realisation on who the culprit is#yosuke's comment that “the fog's so thick the snow gets lost in it” is reminiscent of the english saying “to hide a tree use a forest”#at least for me anyway - snow and fog are both forms of water that come about during low temperatures#but it's right after this comment that yu made the connection that the culprit was someone else that could hide in the crowd#by blending in in a different manner to namatame#namatame was not noticed because he was a delivery driver and that was a mundane everyday figure#but adachi blended in by being one of many police officers that were present in inaba - in other words the tree in the forest#without realising it yosuke has come in clutch to support yu again - i'm fascinated that it wasn't naoto that deduces it#despite being THE detective and being in this scene#it's the combined work of yosuke and yu#and that they really are better with each other#he's good with his queue

literally me right now you don't understand
i wish the webcomic had shown just a little bit more of what happened in the two months between serazade asking for julian's hand and the wedding because it is so heartwarming <3
right after serazade asked to marry julian, they had a family meeting in the middle of the night (including lloyd who was barely awake for it) where the count asked both julian and serazade separately if they were both sincere in their respective declarations of love.
and when they both said they were the count was immediately supportive of them, even taking on the task of asking for the permission of both the queen and the sultan for the marriage.
like. this is a man who by his own words was often to soft hearted and indecisive to be a good lord. and yet when it came to his son's happiness he didn't doubt for one second to take action and wrote to two monarchs to get the permission they needed. he could've easily let lloyd take the lead, reasoning that he already had a connection with both of them, but he didn't!! he stepped forward and did his duty as father without any hesitation or doubts!!
i just,,, really love arcos you guys <3
