So, Halloween is getting closer, and I thought it'd be fun to talk about what I think the gang would dress up as for Halloween

*when I say football I mean American football lol

Hiccup: I feel like he'd have a pretty simple, low effort costume, but he'd rock it. I'm leaning towards something like a super basic vampire costume. Dress shirt, nice pants/shoes, little cape, plastic vampire fangs, etc. But like, and I cannot stress this enough, he looks. so. good.

Astrid: Similar chill vibes as Hiccup, and I think she'd also go for something classic like a witch. But she kinda does it in her own style if that makes sense, short skirt, tights, boots, etc etc. (Also a witch hat and a broom bc duh). Bc this is a modern au, she steals Toothless from Hiccup (bc he's a black cat) and they're inseperable

Snotlout: The first thing my mind goes to is a football* player? Sports jersey, athletic shoes (wtv football players wear lol). I'm kinda between that or like a really slutty pirate vibe.

Fishlegs: He does those costumes that are like, puns or like, plays on words. Like like, when people dress up as a cookie and wear a pair of glasses and then they're a 'smart cookie' or wtv? Yeah, that's Fishlegs. He also gives bee vibes idk. Striped shirt, headband w antennae, wings, the works.

Ruff & Tuff: Definetly do coordinated costumes. I like the idea of them dressing up as Frankenstein (Ruff) and Frankensteins monster (Tuff). They go ALL OUT every year, never dress up as the same thing twice, oftentimes have multiple costumes in the day (and wear them before and after Halloween bc what else are they supposed to do lol). They probably make the costumes themselves. They totally dress up as clowns sometimes. (I redact my previous statement that they never wear the same thing twice; they DEFINETLY have costumes that they came up with specifically to freak certain people (Snotlout and Fishlegs mostly) out, which they can be counted on to wear at LEAST once a year)

um hello!!! im gonna be making a. bugbo murderstuck au Masterpost of sorts! I guess! ill format it like a q&a but im making up some of these questions myself. So lets get into it :3

this is a really long post! b careful :3

"what is murderstuck?" murderstuck is a Bugbo AU that made/am making (complicated wip status lol)! its a story that takes place a month and a bit after the events of familiar foe. "why is it called "murderstuck"?"

murderstuck is actually (Believe it or not lol) a Homestuck thing! murderstuck is a specific part in act 5 act 2 of homestuck where one character kills someone and then someone else kills THEM, so i was like  Fuck yeah that makes total sense for this au. In all honesty, i just called it that cuz i needed a name to jump back to in discord for easy finding and it. Stuck i guess GIGGLES lol.

AMAZING QUESTION !!!! Gradient Joe feels EXTREME remorse. of course when he looks back on it he knows why he did it, but if we're being completely honest; bugbo was immobilized. he did not need to kill bugbo. if he had killed him while bugbo was choking him, that would be a different story. but he killed him while he was backed up into a tree, immobilized and begging for his life.

he feels extremely bad ! Very extremely bad!

OKAY i coudl see this one of a couple ways. First way is, bugbo wins. bugbo succeeds in choking joe to death, And now he is alone (til hoppo gets back) i said this one first cuz its probably not the worst possible thing, but i think it would be pretty terrible!

second worst would be if Joe waited for hoppo to come back instead of going to thomas for help. In my humble opinion, i think that hoppo is very stubborn and VERY loyal. so. (to me at least) it stands to reason that if hoppo came back, she would side with bugbo VERY hard. she would probably fucking hate joes guts, and that would be the worst  thing for him after everything he already went through. Maybe they would Fight too idk…

Very first worst would be if joe just straight up killed himself after killing bugbo. I could see this as a thing he contemplated, but if he actually went through with it?  Oh my god Fucking imagine. all of there corpses there for hoppo to find when she comes back. Thomas rotting away in his lair without anyone to talk to (and without knowledge of bugbos death) for years? Devastating.

other notable endings include Joe OR bugbo Killing themselves directly after gerbos death, hoppo ending up killing joe out of anger when she comes back, Or (In a silly alternate universe that We made on Disc Ord…) bugbo comes BACK to life and DRAGS himself to go kill joe HIMSELF!!!!!!

- joe ends the fight with his shirt partially open and his tie missing!

- joe breaks bugbos right leg! there is a noticable gash on his inner right knee!

- joe kills bugbo by slitting his throat with a meat cleaver!- after joe is done, he drags bugbos body over to where gerbo died! (he was crushed by the fallen Stone Structure!)

Important things to know:

pretty much all the other fronters SUCK at fine motor skills, including typing. so if you see me typing extraordinarily poorly, one of them probably has control of the body.

sometimes they have control of the body but I'm the one talking/typing/deciding what we do. It's kinda weird.

We use sign offs if someone other than me is fronting but its generally me. sometimes they choose not to use sign offs.

Talk to people other than me in the system, they like it. you can send asks and tags and shit adressed specifically to them.

i have never been more intrigued and confused and clueless abt where this show is going to go and i am HOOKED. i called my one (1) shot in abt smith dying in ep8 and so now i am just along for the wacky ride until the end!!!!!!!!!! also my understanding of time travel stories is very poor compared to my understanding of wow cool robot stories so that is undoubtedly a part of it FNDNFBJD

i’ll probs catch more on a rewatch and others have pointed this out but. it seemed like the “timeline” changed right when we got the ep1 flashback/eyecatch? like that’s when hibiki’s arm wound vanished and switched to her head, and wehn we saw hiro again, and also lulu’s demeanor switched from being sad to more determined? so like. i wouldn’t be surprised if lulu shenanigans happened as well in that time…………

also lulu. obviously bravern is smith + knuth + brainwave bot but i would NOT be surprised if there was some of lulu in there too. since her brainwaves were in there too? which would make sense as another ingredient in the bravern soup, if he gets his clinginess and more childish demeanor from her in addition to his horniness from knuth and his heroic attitude and love for isami from smith. which is maybe why, after the “timeline switch” i just mentioned (idk what else to call it) lulu suddenly Knows Smith’s In There in a way she didn’t SEEM to before? like she called bravern “smith” ofc but this was like. deliberate in a different manner imo. idk. lulu is up to Some Shit tho and like everthing else i am SOOOOOOOOOO excited to see it !!!!!!!!!!!!

Sam and Colby going to Jake’s party made me think that maybe when things got bad between them , it was more Snc and Corey being on worse terms and having some fight and Jake just sticking to Corey , because he was always closer to him? Idk. Because Snc are bad at cutting bad people out from their life, but I doubt that they would forgive Jake if he would really did something really really bad for them. Even Colby wouldn’t I think … idk… just thinking.

Bit honestly I hope they will never reunite with Corey and for fuck sake i beg you never Elton. I can tolerate Jake… but not those two

i always believed that whatever happened between snc and jake was just petty, dumb shit and that nothing truly serious happened. but i figured whatever did happen caused them to need a break from one another.

this is my guess about all of it (so obviously take it with a grain of salt):

i think when jake and corey moved in with snc, they thought things would be like it was in the old trap house. however, snc weren't gonna let them go buckwild crazy bc now this was a house that they owned, not rented. i think once snc went from roommates to landlords (in a way), that started the riff in the friendship. we also gotta remember that it wasn't just them splitting off, jake/corey and snc, it was also the entire friendgroup. slowly but surely, everyone stopped being friends for some reason. my personal guess is that once snc stopped making the content they used to make ie the paranormal content with jake and corey, mix that with the pandemic and not seeing one another, i think that caused everyone to reevaluate their friendships. mike had his issues with some of the friends, kevin ventured off too, aryia moved, most moved onto knj's friendgroup, ect ect.

and you could tell things were changing or had changed. by kat's bday of 2020, not everyone was showing up. and then definitely by sam's, no one came over. i also believe that snc changing up their content made some of their friends jump ship. i think some of their friends didn't believe that snc would be succeeding if they changed their format, and if snc don't succeed, neither do their friends since so many of them at the time relied on snc's clout.

by 2021, things changed a lot. i think by that point, jake had alluded to wanting to move out and have his own place so that he could be loud and obnoxious without it being an issue (which is what seemed to be a problem in the house for some reason that he never explained). so he moved out. and then corey followed suit not long after that.

now with corey, i think he had plans to move out eventually, but i think snc not doing paranormal content and moving on to other things pushed his hand. corey barely made his own content around this time. realistically, he relied on snc and their constant posting to give him any attention since he couldn't keep up or bother to post his own content often enough. and once snc stopped doing haunted stuff, i think corey knew he had to jump ship and find someone else to lean on. and that's where elton comes in at.

ppl forget that there was a period of time that elton didn't want to do tfil. back in late 2018/early 2019, he stopped tfil. he literally ended it and said that he wanted to make documentaries. he made one or two and no one cared about them, which is why he came back out with tfil and did those trips with snc, corey, and andrea. elton lost the love he had for his own brand and only brought it back bc he had no other options.

elton had done paranormal stuff before on his other, personal channel (which is now the overnight channel). granted, a lot of them were faked or had edits in them to make the content more interesting, but he did do that stuff prior to snc doing it. while elton moved onto paranormal stuff, snc switched to 25x25, which elton saw as a copycat to tfil - even tho it never was.

corey had to move on with elton, not only bc from he said he wanted to make music and get back into dancing (which… how's that going for you) but bc elton was doing the one thing that brought corey attention: paranormal content. ppl knew corey for the paranormal content he made with snc, so jumping onto someone else's brand that was paranormal related worked for him.

and things only escalated once snc went back to paranormal investigating when 25x25 didn't work out like they hoped.

i think jake and corey were very close since they became friends, and it only made sense that once they moved out and kinda pretended snc didn't exist (for one reason or another) to rely on each other. but again, i don't think jake ever really had a deep issue with snc. maybe in the beginning when he first moved out, but i say after a couple months he probably was fine with them again. plus, friendships go thru ebbs and flows all the time.

as for corey and snc….. that friendship will probably never be fully mended. i think corey only sided with elton in the beginning bc he had to. but by this point, i think he's equally lost in the sauce as much as elton. they both love to think that snc stole ideas from tfil/elton when that just didn't happen. and now they're in a race with snc when they aren't even in the same game as them lol

i don't see elton or corey ever really being friends with snc again, or vice versa. if they do become friends, there's gonna need to be a LOT of talking to get thru all the bs that occurred.

also… snc are gonna have to deal with half the fandom hating elton for forever sksksk

So I’m having another… let’s call it an internet crisis. A thing that typically happens when I have Big Problems I can’t do fuck all about which means now it’s time to get Really Upset about problems that are comparatively small but do affect my daily routine (sorry again for no cut, I still can’t remember how to do it on mobile and I fucking hate hate hate the desktop post editor as much as someone can hate a piece of code)

It’s… getting harder to use tumblr. This isn’t about the sidebar, I don’t actually hate the sidebar cause we used to have a sidebar on the other side and I’ve missed it every since it left, but it’s about other things. A lot of things, but I won’t get into them all right now. For me, the new post editor is just. Really fucking difficult to use. If you’re just doing an unformatted, unplanned ramble (like this) or a little shitpost, it’s fine, especially if you’re on mobile (somehow the shitty mobile editor is now less shitty than the desktop editor, how tf did that happen), but if you’ve got multiple paragraphs and literally any formatting is needed? Well, you’re fucked, quite frankly, it is the most dense and convoluted post editor I’ve seen in like roughly 2 decades spent online. I’ve never seen anything more counterintuitive and difficult to use

And I’m sitting here with all these twitter posts I want to move. Some are little and would be easy. Others are a lot longer and more complicated and would shove me into that formatting hell I despise so much (and given how much feedback and unanswered asks to wip I’ve sent with no improvements, I’ve given up hope of it ever being made better). Like god I really, really want to save those posts but is it even worth it to do it here? But where else would I do it?

So if you have better filters than I do, basically there was someone hc'ing (honestly looking back they were more so just making their own au lore?? At least that's what it feels like now) that Micheal SA'd Lucifer. Personally, I'm a be in charge of your internet experience, anti-censorship, block/filter kind of person so I feel like a lot of the reactions I've seen are kind of harsh? (Fiction shouldn't warrant chasing someone off the internet, if you need to be mad and get your energy out idk go watch and comment on an inabber video essay or smt. Reports on heinous shit that directly impacts irl people not stuff like this) I blocked after I saw it but I'm pretty sure they tagged everything in the text so it's not a case of people being uninformed before they read. Maybe coming from a time of reddit 50/50 and trolls spamming disturbing content made me more immune but even so, I saw someone named and shamed for replying to a discourse post saying the poster should block and move on :/

Also there's some hypocrisy bc I've seen at least one person also say Solomon did nothing wrong. Like,,,, Solomon's character is literally morally gray and will do evil things for the sake of humanity. I think he's one of the more complex characters and if you take that away from him then did you ever even really like him?? It's okay to like fictional villains/antiheros, but you can't deny that his pact formation with Asmo is the closest thing we have to SA in canon. Idk reading comprehension is always in low supply

OK SO. First off my absolute favorite way to ship these two is honestly in AU formats, just because it's so so fun to imagine them in different scenarios to the canon KH ones and also because it's kinda *hard* to ship them in canon KH because. Well. Strelitzia's.... current state of being.

But at it's core Streliven is like. Equal parts tragic and funny to me. I know considering what's happened in canon it really SHOULD be more tragic but I'm all about making the stupidest ships imaginable. Obsessed with Strel and Ven meeting post kh4 and both going "ok so I know our pasts were kinda Fucked Up but damn... honestly.... you're kinda cute you wanna go out for ice cream later" and making things work out meanwhile Lauriam is in the background tearing his hair out. IDK something so funny about them going from, like, not knowing how to address their past to the two of them instantly wanting to kiss each other. Because that's totally a healthy and normal way to cope for sure, totally fine and good and dandy /sarcasm .

On a more serious note. Despite the tragedy that comes with this ship. These two would just be SO sugar sweet together, wouldn't they?? The appeal here is similar to Ven/Nami, because we know Ventus would be such a little gentleman to someone so shy and sweet as Strelitzia, but there's also the juicy backstory. I've admittedly roleplayed two separate scenarios (one shippy, one not) where post KH3 Ventus has met an amnesiac Strelitzia and it's always the sweetest thing. In the shippy scenario he took her to a fair first thing, won her some prizes and even did a cheesy pretend knight act with a plastic sword and promised to protect her. IDK, I just see Ventus as being playful enough to break Strel's shell a little.

Then ofc there's more AU scenerios. Maaan there's been a few Strel/Ven AUs I've read/written for but most of them are just. In my head. But there's always this level of like, misfortune bringing them together. I like that. For me, Streliven is a sweet ship, but it's got a layer of like, "something's not quite right" here. Forbidden love, or met through a terrible circumstance. Thennnnn there's a few more situations I've imagined for them, like the idea of them (in a post KH4 world or something) learning about their connection and being forbidden from meeting, yet kinda coming together regardless. Ventus feeling so guilty about everything that he's willing to do anything for Strelitzia/feels indebted to her, meanwhile Strelitzia just HATING that Ventus feels that responsibility (being a bit creeped out by it, too, probably) and maybe one thing leads to another and they both break down a little and that leads to the two of them having to heal with each other. They suddenly open up to each other, and because they've felt so much pressure to heal on their own, they just become a mess and have to figure things out. It's definitely not the best way to go about things, but who knows?

Maybe one day they'll feel safe enough to be friends.

Thinking about this post about the mainstreamification of fandom and it was both too relatable and got me thinking about the early days of fandom going 'mainstream'.

I'd argue Community was one of the earliest fandoms to really become -- if not mainstream, then at least highly visible as the show was still airing. But it was so so different to what's happening now.

I think the main difference, other than it was 2010 and again one of the first fandoms to hit mainstream, is that no one treated what the writers said as the gospel truth. Fans and the showrunner/writers were in a two-way conversation with each other, and usually the format of that conversation was "No but...." It was a mutual rejection, while still inspiring a cult level of adulation from fandom. Because Community writers engaging with fandom was just another fourth wall broken, another genre parody in a show chock full of them. The writers didn't purposefully spite the fans (only the haters). They didn't shift to bashing a character because the wrong people loved them the wrong amount. They didn't stuff plot points down the garbage disposal because fans understood how to read foreshadowing. (Of course, Community was a sitcom that didn't have long term plot points to foreshadow, but still.) At most, the writers lovingly mocked the fans ala spoofing the Jeff/Annie S1 Gravity fanvid with their own Gravity edited montages in a canon episode -- which in turn only spawned more Gravity spoof fan vids by fandom. It was a mutual mocking the way siblings poke at each other.

And vice versa, no one in fandom cared whether the writers would ever make Jeff/Annie (or any ship) canon. If the writers couldn't see it, that was their problem! The fans could see it! And wrote a shit ton of fic about it. That was the point. Most people didn't even get upset when Dan Harmon and company claimed the Jeff/Annie shippers were all teenage girls shipping themselves with Jeff. We just busted up laughing because MOST of the fandom was 30+ year old women. Me at 22 was on the younger end. And sure, most of them did want to date Jeff themselves, but lbr being attracted to a fictional character is 90% of shipping. (And some people like myself were subconsciously shipping themselves with Annie because Alison Brie is absurdly hot.)

IDK what my point is here. I guess just that I was there at the beginning of fandom going mainstream and it's hard to regret that exact moment in time because it was fun! And rewarding! And spawned so so many creative works and discussions just like fandom is supposed to do.

But my god is it depressing that it ended up rotting fandom from the inside out. To the point that I try and say a S4 plot point is connected to S6 in a recent show when there's absolutely nothing to contradict this in canon -- and immediately get someone 'well actually'-ing me about what writers said their intentions for those plot points were in interviews and how that meant I was wrong. And it's not even because that fan preferred the writers' interpretation! They hate it actually! But they're so convinced that what a showrunner says is the absolute, irrefutable truth that they refuse to analyze the show for themselves and draw their own conclusions. Oh they'll complain about it all day long, sure. But engage with the narrative on a structural or meta level? Literally beyond them, and I can't wrap my head around that at all.

Fandom is not bound by writer intentions and never has been. Fandom isn't even bound by canon!!! Why the FUCK would writer intentions that can only be found in outside interviews be binding? Why would you slap shackles on yourself and then get mad that the chains cut into your wrists? Babe, look at me! No chains! I am free and happy not giving a fuck about what a show runner said! So why do you think I'm a problem that needs to be solved instead of your new life goal? Join me over here in headcanon land! Please!

I think i have some pretty simples ones all things considered? And they’re all pretty fluid/all exist at the same time but for these

Chosen: made with they/them in mind -> experiemented with she/they/he -> had a crisis abt it -> she/her at the end

Dark: started we they/he -> she/they at the end

This isn’t really a queer headcanon (maybe?) but i do think theyre soulmates in a “whatever souls are made of, yours and mine are the same (insult)”, which is probably the closest thing i have to a queer headcanon LDNWOODOW.

-i know the popular theory is that its bcs chosen’s a virus (considering she was beaten by an antivirus in ava 2 + in a way so is tdl and tsc) but idk, they were made by alan (maybe tsc is a virus but thats a theory for another time), but i also like to think its more that chosen knew about victim in some like, unfathomable way?

Headcanon 2: Chosen is the tragedy of a stick born without love

Reasons Why I Think End of An Era Should Be More Loved

(also known as a long list of why I love this song <3) watch out, this is going to be a pretty long post lol

First and foremost, this isn't a list kind of thing but it will be more of a rant, because Goddammit I love this song and I don't see much people giving it the praise IT CLEARLY DESERVES

So let start from the beginning

The song starts off with an acapella part - (0:00 - 1:10) I feel like almost every Marianas Trench closing song starts with something similar, soft vocals and/or elongated notes that are at a slowly relatively slow pace (which is valid because every song before the closer is a ballad that makes me want to bawl my fucking eyes out). And it always work. It helps set the pace and eases smoothly when the tempo kicks a little higher which brings tension and momentum. This case is no different. I always enjoy listening to Josh sing in this little acapella format, his vocals are nice and clean, and not to mention the lyricism <3 Just the beginning lyrics make me want to swoon "One last cue/from love true/to final adieu" Idk, something about that line just got me !!!dlsk it's so simple yet poetic at the same time his delivery connotating sadness and realism that reflected his life back then. This whole exposition just completely keeps up with the concept of being an 80's coming of age action movie and the rest of the song does not disappoint.

afterwards, it kicks up

OMG the CALLBACKS and motifs from every other Marianas Trench song

everyone loves to talk about Dearly Departed as having the best call backs to others songs. C'mon we all freaked out in the best possible way when we first heard it. but I really would like to give End of an Era some of that spotlight BECAUSE COME ON!! this song doesn't only have just lyric call backs from the other songs but also their musical motifs and IT WORKS!! like, it doesn't sound tacky nor out of place. It's all fitted so smoothly and seamlessly into the song in a way that makes such musical sense and doesn't stray from the overall tone.

Here are all the call backs that I have found (and let me know if i missed one)

Masterpiece theater - right after the acapella beginning, the song immediately introduces a marimba that plays the beginning part of Masterpiece Theatre III as a musical motif. I freaked out the first time I heard it and I imagine a lot of you guys did too. I was like KDSOFDJS

Astoria - ofc it has to include the beginning song and it sung so beautifully tense compared to it's original. You can clearly imagine that this is ending climax of the movie. the stakes are high and there is a clear thick tension. Calling back to the titular song, through both lyrics and strings, is a way to narrate how far the journey has taken.

Ever After - the haunting "Face the Music/when its dire" background melody ITS SO FUCKING GOOD YALL LIKE WHAT THE FUCK. so all of this literally happens in the beginning. like first its the intro to masterpiece III and then uses lyrics from astoria and then uses lyrics from ever after as background vocals to harmonize with the astoria vocals and IT'S SO GODDAMN BEAUTIFUL and it's so well executed. LIKE I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH HOW MUSICALLY TALENTED ONE HAS TO BE TO COMBINE THREE SEPARATE MUSICAL MOTIFS FROM PAST SONG TO MAKE A NEW SONG THAT SOUNDS FRESH BUT STILL BE RECOGNIZABLE TO THE OGS LIKE WAHAT/? but that's not all folks,, no no no no .

Ever After motif - the AHahAHah AhahAhah (yknow) the singing voice that appears in almost every song throughout the whole Ever After and most prominent in Porcelain. It is woven into the song so beautifully.

Low and Alibis - "I feel so ashamed/wish this was easy" KDLSJFKSDF; this lyric is from Low from their debut album Fix Me. "I want you to know to, this never was the man I hoped to be by now" this is a call back to the song Alibis from the same album. and i cannot even try to begin to describe the absolute ferocity I felt when this part came on. The refer to two of one of their most emotionally charged songs from their debut album and AHHH and in the song, it serves the role as a comparison in the journey. These specific lyrics help continue the flow of the narrative that the song is going by being the 'before' and comparing himself to the what he is now. He had a specific image of himself before and the journey has converted him into something new but ultimately not what he wanted ("this was never the man I hoped to be by now"). If anything, he is expressing the lowest he has ever felt and is brilliantly using lyrics from his song LOW. He's expressing his regret, his sadness, his struggles that he had faced and acknowledges throughout his journey and knows that he does not want that to be the end. And it is such a wonderful call back because Fix Me and those specific songs are sonically but bring this authenticity because these songs are truly part of the 'beginning' of Marianas Trench's journey. It lowkey made me shed a tear

Porcelain (and maybe Dearly Departed) - So at 5:00 - 5-16 is literally just an excerpt from Porcelain (Ever After 2013) but just melodically inverted and LET ME TELL YOU, IF THAT'S NOT ONE OF THE MOST HEARTBREAKING THINGS. In Porcelain, it goes Ahhhahh ahh, then you hear the guitars and drums picking up, and then the lyrics come in "oh, when your heart releases, you won't fall to pieces, you'll let those diseases lie" with nice expressive melody. You hear that same melody in End of an Era but you hear first the ahhh ahh - since it was already kind of in the background for most of the song but it becomes most prominent in this section - and then then that melody with the lyrics "i gave in to sickness, could you find forgiveness, for a dear old friend" and then it kicks it up with the same guitar sounds and drums that was in Porcelain (but accompanied with kickass guitar riffs -- like cmon those riffs are so good!!!) and I'm not sure if this is too much of a stretch, but I think that those specific lyrics are a callback to Dearly Departed. They parallel the lines "in sickness and health" and reference the "dear old friend" that is is a constant in Dearly Departed. I don't really like to pry on people's lives (so feel free to correct me if i'm wrong) but I remember hearing that one of the reasons that Amanda called off the engagement was because Josh got sick at the hospital and was acting drastically different. I'm not sure if his parents' deaths happened around that time or if the cheating was also a factor but i feel like with this line he is referencing that he owns up for how he was acting and gave 'in to sickness' both in a literal and metaphorical sense despite the vows that he references in Dearly Departed (since "in sickness and in health" are part of wedding vows which reference the engagement). This part is just so emotionally and musically complex because what Ramsay is essentially doing is putting on the melody of the love song (tm) underneath the lyrics that reference the what could be the actual breakup in order to make a new meaning and basically use it as a way to salvage it because he still cares and loves her. AND YOU GET THIS FROM LITERALLY A MINUTE OR HALF A MINUTE LIKE WHATTT

After that emotional train wreck that was the middle section of the song, it starts nearing the conclusion with this anticipating climax and when it gets to the top, there's this intensity that reaches and is let out with a scream. and not just any scream, but the one that was in Astoria as a final cry of victory and perseverance, accompanied by amazing guitar riffs, drums and just overall DJSILFJSK ( i don't know how to put it in words) but its all there and it so good and victorious in a way that makes you think that you just watch a glorious coming of an age epiphany and rising to the occasion to finish out the journey and it just truly feels so magical.

The quoting of Shakespeare's Midsummer Night Dream (which i can make a whole analysis in it by itself but the post is already way too long lol) , which is a play essentially about love and marriage. and just the phrase of "dear friend" as a way to acknowledge that his beloved is not just the love of his life, but a friendship that he has cherished and cared for a long time. Using the quote from shakespeare and affirm that Astoria must end, gives it a spine tingly knowledge that this is the end. the end of the journey, the end of the song, the end of the relationship, the end of this era.

and the best part is that this does not necessarily mean that this journey is just about josh and his relationship and real life problems but also his musical journey. Marianas Trench has gone through so many changes, so many sounds, and has given people so many experiences. This song is the song that culminates all that Josh has written, produced, and created into one spectacular musical sound that is their way to leave their old selves behind. They have acknowledged that they have grown quite a bit as well as their audience and they are just saying good bye to this era. i don't know about you guys but I just think this is quite literally one of their bests songs ever and even though I barely made sense throughout most of this post, I hope it brings you more a somewhat good insight on what this songs means to us, the band, and to Josh. <3 <3 <3

Chapter 1

In the few times Dave Strider has been in contact with the police, nothing good has happened. Considering the amount of illegal shit he has done throughout his life, the three close calls are a heaven sent. Today, he has the pleasure of working with the police on purpose for crowd control and management, leaving him to constantly check between his brother, the police walkie talkie, and his old friend and ex-girlfriend Jade from his years in college.

While he was there as a twinkish dipshit art student, she had been there studying physics and quantum mechanics. He had no idea what the fuck quantum mechanics were then, or now, and was just silently glad she had never come back from her private island to rearrange is atoms.

He had contacted all of his trustworthy friends to come to this event, or help him by filming and posting what happens. That is, everyone accepts Karkat. To the bottom of his little chicken heart, he wished Karkat was here with him, shouting in shrill tones about the integrity of the stage and how it most certainly would not pass OSHA guidelines. He’d probably say he should double check everything one more time, maybe rehearse this once, tell Dave he was a bludgeoning idiot for even thinking of doing this in the first place. Dave thinks he would say all of this, but would still be holding his hand before he went on stage. That is, if he were here. But he wasn’t.

His entire body felt raw with guilt, although he genuinely believed this was the best thing for him to do. He knew how badly this could go down. If he stands even a little too far to the left, or if he sends the signal a second too early it would ruin everything. His whole career, everything he had built for himself, his reputation, his life could be over in seconds. Dave refused to make Karkat watch him crash and burn like that. It just felt immoral and wrong. He would rather die than cause that insufferable gray smurf any emotional damage.

So, instead of his shaking hands being held by his favorite tasmanian devil of a man, Dave sits a miscellaneous crate massaging his temple with his head in his hands, his brother looms over him.

“I feel like I should say something, but I’ve said this from the beginning: this is kinda fuckin stupid Dave.” His brother said, with the sympathy of a brick wall.

Dave’s head shot up to look at him, almost offended, before they both looked away and closed their mouths.

“It’s stupid, but it clearly means something to you.” Dirk sighed, his arms crossed as he looked away, “That and at this point? I doubt anything bad will happen. You got the feds in on it, so however the crowd reacts you’ll be safe. You got the backdrop so if something goes over your head it won’t hit that building, or a pedestrian, or a window, or whatever the fuck is housed through that window. Kanaya was fucking ruthless with the fit, genuinely some of the most fire shit I’ve ever seen you wear-” “Fuck you.” “And we both know the music is good, it would be a personal offense to the Strider name if you were dog shit.”

“Yall wouldn’t take my membership card for Strider related goods and or privileges right?” Dave asked, his voice was a little rough.

“I think I just might.” Dirk said, “You got five minutes, but since stage production really isn't a thing you can just go whenever you want.”

I don’t see a tag so lemme kick it off, partially because I am excited to talk about my CO text fic! Yes, it is done, so this maybe isn’t really a “WIP” Wednesday, since the fic left the hospital, but I’ve seen other people use these posts like this.

This fic has shenanigans, Dev and Niall being idiots, mutual pining, scheming, giant inflatable fishes and the power of Magic Mike Live. I have some musings about this fic, but I’ll put that under the cut. Beware of spoilers!

Okay, I admit I just tweaked some small things in the fic. There were still some minor formatting issues and some mistakes that the format cannot explain. As in, the best part of writing a textfic was that I could keep in the typos and small mistakes, because when you quickly send a text, it is so easy to write the wrong thing. Heck, even when tweaking I found some typos I didn’t see before, like this one:

Obviously, Niall meant to write “i dont” or something. I didn’t catch the idk, but I think that from the context it is clear that Niall means “I don’t” and again, this is a believable mistake in the world of textfics. But yeah, there were one or 2 mistakes that made me go 🤔🤔🤔.

The biggest thing was that yesterday I found out that after the party I completely fucked up the dates. When Baz texts Niall after midnight on Monday 5th, it is a continuation of what happened on Sunday 4th, so I accidentally wrote “Sunday 5th” and this wrong dating thing continued throughout the entire story up until the “epilogue” (aka the prize ceremony on the 23rd). Damn. So I fixed all the days only to realise that I wrote certain events around the day. As in, Baz has classes on Tuesday, so he texts Simon from university when they just got together. I had to add a quick line somewhere that says Baz has classes on Tuesday AND Wednesday. Oh, and now Dev and Niall left on Monday, not Sunday, so it was longer than a weekend trip 😅. I am certain that if you just read the fic, you didn’t notice this error, but I did and it annoyed me oop.

This used to be “My friends will be here for the weekend”, which is still true, but now it was longer than the weekend, Bazzy.

Speaking of dates, it’s interesting that I have been writing this since September, I think. I used November and December 2022 as a setting and when I started out, that was still in the near future. Now I’ve published it in February 2023, so the events happened in the near past.

Anyway I am happy that people like it. I read all the comments on AO3 and here in the tags. I’m glad I made people laugh (especially since I laughed a lot while writing it) (Niamh dipping out was peak characterisation if I may say so!)
