Goodbye IDW! Hello Something New!

Hi there! 

After seven years and some change, today, 12/22/2023, is my last day at IDW Publishing. It's for good reasons. Things just timed out that my last day could be the last work day of the year for IDW and in the new year, I'll be starting a new job elsewhere. I'll still be in comics and once I can talk about the new gig, I'm really stoked to be letting you all know. So, today, I want to say my goodbye to IDW. 

But first, before I get to that, I did have something else notable happen this week. I sent my last tweet!  I'm officially shutting down my Twitter at the end of the year and if you see a Twitter account claiming to be me after January 1st, it's an imposter. If you'd like to keep up with me, however, I've got good news! There are lots of other ways to find me still. Here are a few!

Okay, with that out of the way, let's talk about it. This is not my first time saying goodbye. In fact, almost exactly a year ago, I said my farewells to Transformers, one of the hallmarks of my IDW run. I don't want to revisit that too much, so if you want to read about my early days at IDW or that part of my career or a big list of thank yous to my collaborators, you can! And while I've had significant runs with other books, most notably Sonic the Hedgehog which with January's Sonic: Fang the Hunter #1 will mark 100 issues of Sonic at IDW under my editorial eye, or my personally exciting, if shorter runs on stuff like Godzilla, Samurai Jack, the Hasbro Action books, Canto, Scarenthood, The Kill Lock, The October Faction, Wynonna Earp, Brynmore, Atomic Robo, or literally so many other books, I don't want this to just be a retrospective on the work. In fact, I'm largely not interested in talking about the past when I say goodbye this time. 

IDW has afforded me a lot. They've helped me find my place in the industry. They let me do some writing. They let me do a lot of editing. I learned various other skills both through directly on the course of the job and through my own interest because of what I was doing and seeing there. I have made true lifelong friendships. And I have made comics. So leaving feels weird. I'm very bummed to be leaving a place that really has been my home (and for the past couple of years, has quite literally been mostly at my home) for so long. But I am even more excited about what's to come. On my side, I can't announce it just yet, but watch this space for some big news soon (after a couple weeks of much needed vacation). 

Talking about the future I actually can say a little more about, I wanna tell you how excited I am for IDW. Yes, I'm leaving, but IDW remains home to so many people--both at the company and our freelance creators--and so many projects that are close to my heart. Next year is their 25th anniversary. That is an impressive feat in not just the world of comics, but any industry. For the milestone, they've got a lot of cool stuff planned. 

I'm not going to blow up IDW's spot and say anything about what's coming up too early. Just to talk about the things that are already public knowledge, you've got things like the new TMNT: The Last Ronin sequel! The TMNT ongoing on it's road to issue #150! There are cool new originals like Golgotha Motor Mountain! There's the launch of the aforementioned Fang the Hunter which is IDW's first Classic Sonic mini-series and sees 100 unique issues of Sonic at IDW and is just laugh-out-loud funny and full of such good action! And I'll tease this, when the Sonic ongoing is back with issue #69 in May, you'll be in for an absolute treat as that series runs up to #75! 

I know some readers of this blog don't read a ton of American direct market comics. You aren't "Wednesday Warriors" who go to the comic shop every week. You like the comics you like and I've been graced to be a person working on those comics. If you aren't as familiar with how these comics work, let me assure you of a couple things. The books I was editing and many unannounced projects that I set up will still be happening. Because of the timelines of comic production, you'll still see my name in IDW books for a few more months and, at the same time, you'll see new credits creeping in. And if we've done everything right, that'll be about the only thing you'll notice is different, at least at first. As the editors really take the reins and take over, we'll both be in for the treat of the unknown! I'll be reading them with a good sense of professional jealousy. 

Now, there's one other book that has been announced for next year and I wanted to do a special call out for. Godzilla: Valentine's Day Special went to press this week. It's the last IDW book I saw all the way from inception to completion. And, in many ways, it's kind of a really good analogy of a comics editorial career. I think, genuinely, this may be the book that went from conception to reality the fastest in my career. I think it took... less than a week from a half-joking suggestion of doing a Godzilla Valentine's Day book to getting Zoe Tunnell's pitch in and approved by Toho and getting it on the publishing schedule. Usually these things take a bit--people are working on other projects, licensors need time to review things, whatever other bumps happen along the way--but this was like lightning. Everyone just got it instantly. And then Zoe turned in the script and it was great! Things continued, as they do, and then... we got a curveball or two. I won't go into too much detail, but major thanks to Sebastian Piriz and Rebecca Nalty for getting it done and having a book that we were all so proud of that I could send to press this week. And it struck me on that final press day that despite the curveballs we had been thrown, when it came to actually getting it approved, everything was so easy, straightforward, and smooth. When you read it in February, if I've done my job right, maybe you'll remember seeing somewhere that there were some curveballs. But mostly, you'll just have a really good book in your hands. (BTW, you did JUST MISS the final order cutoff on that, so do check in with your shop about still trying to get you a copy!) 

Most of the time, after a book like that goes to press, an editor gets ready to do it again--maybe in a few minutes or days or the next week. For the first time in a long time, I won't be getting ready to do it again at IDW. That's a complicated feeling, but I'm so excited for the future. 

The best metaphor I've been able to come up with for what is happening is it's like I've been working in a one room office constantly for the past seven years. It's got that dull office lighting, you know the kind. Each day, projects come and go across my desk, and as they otherwise disappear into the world, I put up one of those glow-in-the-dark stars as a memory of it. And each day, I work with so many people--my coworkers at IDW who've helped foster my growth, my collaborators as both a writer and editor who have made so many stories with me, all the folks where things never quite lined up but we kept trying, and the readers who are an inherent part of the ecosystem, the reason we make what we do. And so, for each of those people, I put up a little glow in the dark toy. 

Now, for the first time, I'm going to get up and leave the office. As I flick the switch behind me, everything in there that has been soaking up light for years now glows. Some of the glows are slight. Some are so fantastically bright, it feels like they're drawing attention through the walls of the room. Together, they make the room brighter than it was when I left. Now, sometimes, I might sneak in to borrow a toy--make a copy of it for the new office I'm doing the same thing in. Other people will certainly do the same and make they've got their Evan Stanley figure on their shelf. If I ever return for a longer time, I'll be so glad to flick the light back on and let them all absorb even more light to glow an even longer time. If I don't, I rest happy that the glow goes on and forever people will be able to come back and discover some part of it. And I'll start working on a new office soon. 

If I keep going,  I'm a little afraid that I won't be able to stop. So, for now, I'll just say again, thank you. The future is about to be very exciting. Next year is for the creators you love or don't know you love yet, the books that are going to light you up that you've come to expect and the ones that will catch you by total surprise. While there are a lot of things I'm going to miss deeply and books that I'm going to wish I had gotten to do more on, I also have the really exciting experience of getting to see this stuff as a fan of IDW, just like you. And, hey, I hope you'll be a fan of the stuff I do next too! 

As for next steps, like I've said, I'm not going far. I'll still be in comics. I'll share the news when I can.

Before that, I'm getting a little break. Not too long, just a few weeks, and obviously the holidays are part of those, but in my time between my jobs, I'm going to be working on some personal projects. I put together a little tracking list recently and I have something like 40 projects in various stages of gestation right now. Obviously, I'm not going to be working on all of those at once, and chances are, some of them will never see the light of day, but I'm going to be working on trying to bring a couple of them to you in the new year (and beyond). Announcements: The Cartoonist Cooperative is still doing E-Sim cards for Gaza. You can donate a digital sim card so that residents can get access to the internet and have more functional phones and, in exchange, get some comics or a drawing or whatever else is available from the many participating artists. Additionally, the CC is hosting their mini-comic awards! It's a cool way to maybe get your mini-comic recognized and make some scratch!

You can also give more directly. If you don't have money, and I get it, you can call or fax or email or show up at the offices of your representatives. Keep your eyes open for actions too, whether they're another general strike or demonstrations and marches in your area. Given the nature of the things, they often come together fairly quickly, so do exercise your due diligence. Also, of course, being informed and just giving your time to Palestinian journalists and writers is incredibly valuable. 

While Becca has got some things brewing for next year (and now on a schedule), you should reach out if you'd like to work on comics with them! You can find their gallery on their website and also, y'know, maybe pick up a few things for belated gifts while you're there!

Time to digest some of the things I've learned and make my way to Mesa Island.

I. Think? I might not be the most important person on this ship right now.

It's pretty hard to believe, I know. But it might be true. I'm not saying I'm going to drop to my knees and worship the guy or anything but. Yeah. Okay. I get it. I get what's so important about this man.

I still want my fucking Captain's Quarters back. He has thousands of other timelines with other ships with other Captain's Quarters that he can use. We only have the one! And I want it! Grumble grumble.

Anyways. Mesa Island. Come on, TIA; Let's go put your hand on the scale.

Reversing the flow of time in order to temporally resurrect the island giant. Yeah, Aephorul won't notice that. We mortals do shit like this all the time.

Wait, "Master"? Did you create the stone giants? Are you the person I have to punch in the nose for the catastrophe of safety violations that is Yeet Ball transit?

Does my every grievance with our world ultimately roll up to you? Because I am willing to throw down after all of this is over. I have it on good authority that my magic's better than yours.

Yeah, I got that impression from all those sunken ruins of things that clearly weren't underwater at some point in time.

How did the sea levels rise? Global warming?

Oh, okay. I'll just make a note of that here: "Ask Teaks about rising sea levels later." Got it.

Huh. Mesa Island isn't connected to the seafloor. Khukharr holds it up like Atlas holds the sky.

Y'know, I was thinking about that. We've got your manager here and all, so he could give you his approval if we wanted to violate your job duties, right?

How about, instead of removing the barrier, you flip this whole-ass island upside-down and then slam it into the seafloor as hard as you possibly can. After that, you can go back to hoisting it on your shoulders while we pick through whatever's left of the castle to find the Dweller.

I mean, if we're going to cheat, why do it halfway?

Resh'an has the best method of escaping an awkward conversation I've ever seen. I now regret not trying to swindle him and keep the vial for myself.

...wait, it would still go back to him even after I broke it. *sigh* Maybe I can trick him into gambling it away or....

Wait, even if I won it off him in gambling, it would still go back to him when I tried to use it. That fucking prick. He's planning on cheating me out of my winnings! >.<

Oh, shit, I was thinking about important leadership things. What's going on now?

That's terrifying. Are you going to yeet our ship? How does yeeting our ship help!?

THERE WE GO. Thank you. Fuck, that was like pulling teeth. Stone giant teeth. I don't know why he had to be so obstinate about this when we were "friends".

At least it's done now. I'm ready to go get brutally murdered by the Dweller of Strife if you guys are.

Except you, Resh'an. You've reserved the right to peace out and run for your life as soon as we approach the thing. Honestly, you can probably go home now. This is a suicide mission after all.

Oh, this is pretty. Mesa Island's high enough to have weather. We knew that from Glacial Peak but it's still neat to see. Big change from most of our tropical sea-level locales.

How did you even get inside the barrier?

Are there people in here, besides the council of sycophants? Because if so, then that complicates my plan to upend and smash the whole island.

Not that we're doing the plan. We wouldn't be here if we were. But still.

Ohhhh, yeah. That definitely looks like a big, evil castle. Then again, it appears to be situated in the middle of the Mushroom Kingdom so we should prepare for the possibility that our Dweller is in another castle.

Okay, team. Against all odds, we've made it to Mesa Island. We have no reinforcements, no plan, and we're about to go wing it against a Dweller that killed dozens of our peers - And we have been explicitly told that the future holds no possibility of success.

HOWEVER

Those were useless futures foretold by a terrible seer who couldn't find his past with both hands. We have something he never anticipated! We have Resh'an!

Who will not be participating in this battle.

So I don't want to hear any hopeless talk out of any of you! They say that if you try to thwart a prophecy, your actions to escape from it will ultimately bring it about. You know what that means? That means that if you want to thwart prophecy, you gotta rush in and meet it head on! Let's go meet our destiny and spit in its face before it bowls us over!

1. Were you named after anyone?

Not my first name, but my middle name (Rose) is the first name of my mom's aunt. I think it was more that my parents liked it as a middle name vs. choosing to name me after her, though.

2. When was the last time you cried?

Yesterday, lol -- I went to the movies for my bday (for the first time since Feb 2020 actually) and saw Past Lives, which completely destroyed me 🙃

3. Do you have kids?

No, and am like 90% sure I don't want them. I think it depends on if I ever meet the ~right person~ but I'm getting older and that's not really feeling like a possibility. But I've also never been good with kids and definitely never had dreams of being a mom, so yeah.

4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?

Too damn much.

5. What sports do you play/have you played?

Just soccer, through middle school. I guess I also did dance for a while as a kid, and took tennis lessons with friends for a summer or two (but I always sucked at it.) I was really good about running regularly last year up until Feb of this year, and then totally fell off that wagon. But I got some new running shoes for my bday so it's time to try again 😅

6. What's the first thing you notice about someone?

I honestly don't know, I've never thought about it. It feels stupid to say "their face" but that's probably the real answer.

7. Eye color?

Hazel (my eyes are in fact my favorite thing about my appearance)

8. Scary movies or happy endings?

Happy endings, I've never been able to do scary movies. I'll watch some under the right circumstances, but I'd never choose one over a happy ending.

9. Any special talents?

I used to be able to name every country in the world bc I had an incredibly boring job where I mostly just sat around all day, so I started trying to memorize them via that Sporcle quiz where you get 15 mins to name them all 😂

10. Where were you born?

New Jersey, and I'm somehow still here. I think there must be some sort of ancient magic keeping my family in this state, because dad's side came here in the 1600s and apparently we just never fucking left lol

11. What are your hobbies?

I feel like I used to have legit hobbies, but if I'm being honest covid really fucked with the way I interact with the world and I don't do nearly as much as I used to do. Like I used to love traveling and taking pictures, but I'm still not really comfortable traveling and I rarely take my DSLR out anymore. I play guitar? Never with enough dedication to get really good, but I like picking it up every now and then and teaching myself a song.

12. Do you have any pets?

Hell yeah I do, her name is Pearl, she is a fluffy white Persian rescue and she will be 6 in September and is my favorite thing in this entire world.

4'11" (AND THREE QUARTERS OKAY) / 59 inches / ~150 cm

Anything artsy

15. Dream job?

Being independently wealthy? lolol but honestly, I don't really know anymore. I don't hate what I do, I just wish I had it in me to be more motivated to make a little more money at it. But then again that would probably require working myself to the bone, and I'm not interested in that either. I think I wouldn't mind running a little cafe someday, but the restaurant industry is too fickle to new businesses for me to ever want to actually take that risk.

Chapter 150. So much to say. I'll say a quick aside first that i love the mention of Luo Wenzhou feeling like he's right back to when he heard Lao Yang died, shaking as he grips the doorframe. Cause he's often so STRONG and keeps steady emotionally during so many crises, he earns the nickname of superhero and deservedly. But in a moment like that, despite it all, he feels as human as me and as weak as me or anyone else when the panic and fear and Crushing weight of emotions finally is ruining his ability to function like a superhero. He's just as emotionally distraught as anyone might be in the situation, fumbling just like anyone would, unable to be the Perfect hero in those moments in the hospital. Just trying to do whatever left to do while hes emotionally raw and totally unable to get out from under his emotions drowning him. I felt that scene was needed for a character like Luo wenzhou. I also liked how in retrospect he realizes the great blindspot he had for suspecting shiniang. How in a way, it parallels his huge Willful blind spot he had for Fei Du: knowing fei du was likely manipulating him, stealing info, spying, but letting him in the emotional based hope fei du wouldn't do anything harmful with it. Pained when fei du confessed to the spying, when Luo wenzhou had to finally face explicitly he'd let fei du do that for so long. He emotionally Wants to believe in the best of his loved ones. It's why he knew fei du was spying but just let him, knew fei du may well be capable of killing people but left him alone to accumulate his secret organization for taking revenge. That same trait of Luo wenzhous is why he didn't think to suspect shiniang. Why he let her HATE him so much he couldn't visit for years. Why he let her daughter, Lao yangs daughter, spy on him and play them all too.

Because once he decides "this is my family" and "I care about them" he wants so badly to keep seeing them as HIS people and trustworthy. With Fei Du it was a special case in that Fei Du HAD the red flags he might murder or be cruel for most of their relationship, what with saying he enjoyed hurting things and would like to Strangle and would make a secret org to do Crimes as both a child and an adult who really should be suspected when as an adult they're still doing it as suspicious things happen around them (and to be fair I think fei du partly desperately wanted TO be honest to Luo wenzhou and that's why Luo wenzhou heard him say such things). But even with red flags galore for years, Luo wenzhou chose to love and trust him unconditionally. So of course a man like that, to people without such red flags, who he also views as family... of course he would have a blind spot. Even if he did suspect them, like all his loved ones he'd WANT to believe they didn't have bad intentions even if they lied to him. So shiniang and her daughter proving to have lied to him? Wow that's a lot.

I wonder if it will also in the long run shake his relationship with fei du. After all, fei du is another person who DID lie to him. Who he kept choosing to trust even knowing he was being lied to, in the hopes fei du did not have bad intentions. Since shiniang and her daughter did actually have bad intentions and get people killed, I wonder if that will bleed into Luo wenzhous perception of fei du.

(However I will say in contrast... fei du choosing to admit what he did definitely earns Luo Wenzhous trust in a way that makes their relationship harder to shake, and fei du had also always been seen almost as Luo wenzhous own child. In the sense of responsibility to take care of fei du, to "save" him. Luo wenzhou loves fei du in the unconditional way you would love your own child even if they smashed your house up and screamed they wanted to kill someone. They're your responsibility to get help for, to protect even when they're being bad, to keep alive and try to make a better future for, to steer toward being a good person even if no one else believes they are worth trying to teach to be kinder. Luo wenzhous utterly unconditional love, like a parent loves almost, does mean in fei dus case I think he's unable to stop caring for him. Sure, fei du can break his trust. And certainly as an adult, fei du would face consequences now if Luo wenzhou sees he is lied to. But even if they were estranged, even if fei du full on killed a person, Luo wenzhou might feel betrayed but he'd still ultimately want to work things out. Maybe he'd even sever their connection line for communication... but I doubt Luo wenzhou would. Because fei du fears abandonment so Luo wenzhou doesn't have the heart to even temporarily abandon him, would be too worried fei du would not be able to cope if he did. And Luo wenzhou drove away when fei du confessed and STILL CAME BACK WITH FOOD AND BROKE IN AND COOKED AND MADE THEM TALK AGAIN. So even if fei du did lie more, do the Worst... Luo wenzhou would ensure they talked again. Even if fei du had to go to prison lets say lmao, Luo wenzhou would be there to visit his ass every other day and suggest counselors and suggest lawyers to help him shorten the sentence and order him around to be good and reflect on the bullshit he did and all the rest. Luo Wenzhou is WAY too attached to fei du to ever truly cut him off, even if fei du betrays him. Even if your kid betrays you, you still care for them. Even though fei du is an adult now... and you might limit contact with a violent 30 year old child the way you'd not do that to a 14 year old... Luo wenzhou isn't the type. He just couldn't. Emotionally fei du IS HIS PERSON. That's more true than anyone else in the world. When Luo wenzhou told him your MY PERSON he really meant it with his entire soul.)

Inquisitor Drawing Meme 1: Skyhold Outfit

So I designed Dalisay's outfit with a lot of heavy references from Pre-Colonial Philippine outfits and it was fun to give her a lot of headpieces NGL. Dalisay’s vallaslin is different cause homebrew Dalish clan do be like that, she has the snakeskin which means safety, protection, health, shield and strength while the one on her forehead are people holding hands/family which means harmony and unity. These are what I imagine the Sylaise tattoo of her clan/people to be.

I've been wanting to do the Inquisitor drawing meme for awhile and since I have two leaders for the Inquisition, expect the second one, Mahalina, to come in soon!~

My DA4 Main WS protag Himagsikan on the day of their rigged trial that led to their disownment and exile after years of leading and protecting their people while also trying to make peace between Clan Magsumakit and the others who their father had offended. Himagsikan's hair was cut to brand them as a criminal and traitor and also to bring shame to them, their jewellery and fine silks were also taken back by their father to be given to their younger sister and the protective spells that's been put in every tattoo of my Dalish clans were taken back thus leading it to become the plain white colour it originally was.

Clan Magsumakit will regret the fact that they didn't fight to keep the young leader within their clan after Himagsikan's exile.

Also, all these tattoos mean something! Each of the tattoos used by my various Filipino-coded Dalish OCs have either their wishes, dreams or sometimes their parents' wishes for them tattooed with the different symbols that meant the different wishes they have. For Himagsikan it's mostly tied to strength, guidance, courage, protection with only the sun and moon meaning life. You could tell their wish is uhhhh obvious

EMERGENCY COMMISSIONS

Hi guys so this morning at 6 am, my elder sister found out  my younger sister had vomited and was shaking but limp but also in a way jerky in her movements, i took out money from my paypal to try and help with hospital funds but my dad just messaged us saying that we’ve exceeded the amount we had on hand (currently running on minimal sleep while also trying to run the house)

I’m opening commissions right now to try and help with the excess costs because apparently trying to make sure my family is healthy would mean paying an arm and a leg at the hospital

1. Are you named after anyone?

Meto: You could say my name is a family name.

Rychell *shrugging*: I think so, but I didn't pay attention when I was told. Why should I give a fuck about dead people?

Orincia *rolling his eyes*: Yes. Orincia is always given to the second born male child, in my case my name was legally changed when I was 16-17, after I came out as trans.

2. When was the last time you cried?

Meto *eyes shift nervously* I'm not going to answer that.

Rychell: About twenty years ago. Ghosts can't cry.

3. Do you have kids?

Meto: I don't like childern.

Rychell: No unfortunately Orincia and I tried, but it was discovered I am infertile.

Orincia *side eyeing Rychell*: Unfortunately? Based on what you've done I think it's fortunate we don't have more or you running around.

Meto: *laughs* No. Never.

Rychell: Sometimes, depends on the person.

Orincia: I don't have the time, but sometimes when I'm upset.

Meto: If there's anything worth stealing.

Rychell *nods his head*: Yeah. Same.

Orincia *middle distance stare* *sigh*: Sometimes their chest, sometimes their torso. It depends on how much taller they are.

Meto: Emerald, but now they have a white pupil, and red ring around the iris.

Rychell: Dark purple, but now they are orange.

Orincia: All black.

Meto: What the fuck is a movie?

Top three favourite fic tropes.

Reincarnation fics, hurt/comfort, enemies to lovers

Do you research before writing or while you write? Is it fun or boring for you?

Both! I usually do a lot of preliminary work on a given fic, where I'm exploring the waters and really....seeing how viable it's going to be, and then there's a lot of work that happens as I delve into it and the plot becomes clearer. (There are some fics that I've been putting off for years just because...I know I need to have more experience, and even though the audience will be small, I want it to be the best it can be for my sake if nothing else. There's one fic that would be set in Brittany, I've been planning it out for about...4-5 years, and I think I'll finally be able to start seriously working on it next year because by that time I'll have had the chance, hopefully, to actually make it to Brittany and pick up a bit of Brezhoneg myself, because it's an under-represented culture, for a lot of people going in on the Anglophone side of things, this might be their first real exposure to it, and, on the Francophone side of things, I want to be as respectful as possible.)

Honestly, the research is one of my favorite parts! I always run with the idea that, in any given fic of mine, I will learn at least one thing I didn't know beforehand, and usually, that's how it turns out. I really enjoy getting to look into material and trying to figure out what to include, what to discard, whether it fits in the canon world I'm working with, how to adapt it, etc. Since I'm overwhelmingly working with musicals, I think that I go into this very much with the idea of staging in mind, looking at how the people behind the production chose to transmit their world and then trying to add onto that while also keeping with the basic continuity, designing costumes that are things the characters would wear while also being accurate, figuring out when to bring in historical figures and historical events, etc.

Like, my current tentative WIP is for the Toho production of Romeo et Juliette, which is a postapocalyptic take on the story, and so I've been doing research on what, realistically, would happen after a nuclear explosion, specifically looking at it over 150-200 years later, at least, when society's had some time to rebuild. I never thought I'd be doing something like that! I'm used to the 18th century! But here we are, and it's a lot of fun to get out of my comfort zone and build a setting from the ground up like that.

For Door #2, my Resident Evil 8 fic, it was actually a bit daunting because I had this very detailed in-game map, everything is THERE, so it isn't so much about building as much about knowing what's there and working in those lines to keep the suspension of disbelief going, and I had to do that without having access to my own copy of the game, so I had to rely on streams that had been posted online. People aren't going to be checking every step of the way to make sure that, when I say a character walks ten steps to the nearest door, it IS actually exactly ten steps, but they will notice bigger digressions, and it's a matter of keeping to that, and, unfortunately, because there's a huge medical and scientific aspect to it that I'm hopeless at, I have fewer options than normal. One way that I kind of rounded out that world and established it as its own thing was by delving more into Romanian history, so I was doing a bit of research on Romania in the 20th century, folklore, holidays, popular songs, media suppression during the 1980s, looking up Romanian brands online, things that would really establish a sense of place, because there's always that strong urge to default to America whenever we have the chance (and...without throwing the RE fandom under the bus...I've noticed that this happens a LOT in Village, where I can absolutely tell that a number of the people writing fic have never considered how life in a modern Eastern European country might differ from suburban America. And like...people from other countries very obviously are not from a different planet, but there are going to be things that are different, especially depending on if they're living in a small village VS in Bucharest.) Which comes with its own problems as well, because with some things, especially some of the darker things, there's always that question of "How much DO you want to bring in, and where do you draw the line to avoid fandomizing very real, traumatic things that are still affecting people into the present while also respecting that these things would be something that a given character lived through and that would have shaped them in some form?" (For me, I drew the line at directly talking about the events of Christmas 1989, because I knew that that is relatively recent and raw and that it would be very easy to misstep, and it was easy enough to do because they're living in an isolated village that's been cut off from the rest of the world, so...it's the sort of thing they would be seeing the ripples from, but wouldn't directly be participating in. Likewise, for my Irish material, I can almost guarantee you'll never hear me talk about the Famine, the Civil War, or the Troubles. Other people can if they want to, I'm not touching them.)

But, yes, it can be really interesting, it's usually one of my favorite parts of writing a given thing, even though it can be hard to track down some of the more obscure things. (I'm forever limited when it comes to accounts of every day people's lives.)

Once again, you are absolutely correct! I do post a lot of red velvet, especially yeri & joy (bias line) 💓 I mean their music is fantastic and the girls are all beautiful. Now that you've told me, I think nct and shinee are the only boygroups I really like. Wait! I kinda fell into the txt hole last year. I won't say I'm a fan, more of a casual listener. I do enjoy some of their music. Apart from those, I don't listen to a lot of boygroups. Although, I did listen to be mine because you held me at gunpoint 🔫 literally! When I listened to it on spotify, I realized I already listened to kb's be free and enjoyed the song a lot! The only thing I know about both songs is they're sung by members of ooo but I don't know anything about the group so if you want to recommend some songs, I would love to listen to them. Background

I see Eren is 150+ years old tbh. Like he’s been around for a good while.

I see that he was a turned vampire so he probably turned when he was 19+ so that’s like his physical age.

He has heightened senses again so like inhuman strength, mind compulsion, ability to smell b*ood from far ranges, can hear very well, able to fly, and speed.

The sun is still a big problem like he’s obviously burned from it so tbh he probably has some object he keeps with him that allows him to not burn over probably something cast with a spell. Might have a necklace, bracelet, or a ring. I see it would be a necklace. (the one in the photo)

He probably doesn’t have too much control if he drinks too much so he tries to not overdo it. Probably depends on b*ood bags since it’s safer and he won’t be caught.

I don’t think he’s a playboy or anything like that he just doesn’t give off the vibe. Though he has been with (many) women throughout the years.

He seems like he would be a bit secretive tho.

His family is probably all dead except for his brother tbh.

Btw I really see him as a werewolf so this is a little hard to imagine 😂

He probably hasn’t really had any lovers that he’s been too serious about. Maybe two before you.

How they met

Now I don't have an exact idea as to how you met him. And this is mostly because I don't know what to choose so I'll list several ways it could’ve happened.

Setting 1: You were in college and there was a Halloween party at a friends house and you went you were dressed up as like a nurse or something but seeing your dress got dirty by someone spilling punch on you just changed into the extra clothes you wear before you changed into your costume. After that you wanted to get some air since you were out of the hole dancing mood. You walked out of the house from the party in some jeans and a cami top. (The one in the photo, literally will be using this outfit in any scene I talk about for your first meet. Mostly cause Eren likes those kinds of tops on you.)

So as you walked on the side of the street (you knew the area well) and just decided to walk home. It was completely deserted outside since it was late and everyone was busy. As you walked around, probably at a park with trees, you heard things but didn't pay much mind to it at first. Though as you got closer you noticed the atmosphere changing into something more mysterious. The crows made more noise and fog seemed to circle about. As you looked around you then heard a scream from afar and lets just say you saw a "vampire" (it’s not Eren tho) drinking from a girls neck but this was all in the dark so with what you saw you just decided to run seeing you made eye contact with the creature.

So you decided to run and with doing so you ran into someone and were completely terrified. You probably ran into Zeke (which again is the bad guy, just like I have mentioned in the werewolf version of Eren's hcs.) and he's probably talking about draining you from your b*ood since you know, he doesn't care and he's hungry, even after the body he just discarded. He was close to doing it but Eren pushed him away and fought with him. This is cause they've been feeding too much recently and they don't want to blow their cover.

You were left shook from fear but he soon erased your memory so you could go home safely. And you didn't remember a thing afterward.

After 1-2 months later Eren enrolled at your campus in order to blend in with society. I see that he got the wrong dorm number and entered your dorm room and you too had a bit of a confrontation.

Neither of you actually recognized each other tho. And believe it or not his dorm was only a few doors down.

Here's the convo of when you first met him:

"Can I help you?"

"Uhhh, I'm looking for room 186, but I think this is the wrong room?" He laughed a little scratching his neck.

"Yeah, it is." You giggled.

"Sorry about that." He'd smile at you before you shook your head to reassure him.

"It's fine . . . uh, I don't know your name."

"It's Eren."

There was a moment of silence before you spoke, "Uh right, I'm Y/n. . . . Um your room is on the left side four doors down I believe, I know it looks like there are two 186's but the nine just turned upside down--- they're kinda slow on repairs here."

"No worries, I get it. Thanks, Y/n. I'll see you around."

"You're welcome. See you around, Eren." You'd smile before closing your door.

Becoming a couple

It was through seeing each other at college parties, classes, and when you two would walk to your dorm.

There were just lots of conversations.

And you two got to know each other through the small things.

Here’s a convo I picture they have at a party:

“You know if I’m not wrong I’d say you’re not enjoying yourself.” He’d say walking over to you.

“Hey, what are you doing here?” You’d smile.

“Just hanging out with friends. . . Although it’s really boring.”

“College parties are supposed to be fun but I guess that’s just in the movies.” You’d give a smile as you looked down not knowing what else to say.

“No they are, you just weren’t around when they were good.” He’d disagree as he shook his no.

“What is that supposed to mean?” You’d smile with a small laugh.

“You’ll see, c’mon.” He’d end up getting you into the party and have fun.

You’d thank him for the night and things only continued to be fun and intriguing.

As time went on you both had feelings for each other and you wanted to put it off since you still felt like there were things you wanted to know about him before you could possibly date him.

For example, why did he move to town? Is he by himself? What's his family like? How does he always know what you're thinking?

Despite all these questions you do like him, which is why you're making the effort to get to know him.

He hasn't kissed you yet but he wants to, he might get the chance too when you both are at the library alone and you two are studying for history.

He knows that subject so well because he was around for so long. Especially all the german history since he probably participated in the war at the time not that he was a nazi. He was probably just some American spy dressed as a nazi for information. And I mean if he's like 150+ he was born in at least 1871. And Nazi Germany was around in the early 1900s. so that falls into place, but whatever the case lets get back to the setting and convo here.

So because he knows a lot of facts cause he remembers since he's traveled so much, you'd be impressed for sure.

"How do you, know so much?" You'd ask, your head titled to the side as you looked at him curiously.

"Plenty of time to read--my friends a history geek." He'd explain with a smile despite your neutral expression as you were acknowledging this.

"That must be nice to have a friend that's an encyclopedia." You giggled, meeting eyes with him once more.

He moved closer to you to reach for another book, at the same time you reached for the object; leading the both of you to touch hands.

"I'm sorry." You mumble, just enough for him to hear as he also retrieved his hand from the object. Still, he didn't move from where he was sitting.

Eren was now facing you and was only inches away from your face. You could feel the tension in the room as you both held eye contact for what seemed like forever. You felt awkward to say something and all stared at him, wondering what he was thinking.

"No worries." He whispered, making you taken back as he attempted to lean in closer to your lips.

You stopped him from being any closer as you cleared your throat and asked, "Your necklace---do you always wear it?"

Cutting him off guard he was startled before answering, "Oh, yeah. It keeps me close to family."

You move close to see the pendant and become curious. "They look like thorns surrounding it, and the stone---" You examined the stone in your hands whilst Eren placed his hand over yours to examine it with you.

"The stone represents the eye color in my family--all the males in the Yeager family have tend to have green eyes, it's a dominant trait somehow. The family heirlooms have just been passed down through time." He'd explain while looking at you studying the details of his necklace.

You glanced at him about to say something else but his hands on your chin turned you to face him again as he leaned in to give you a kiss.

Finding out about his vampiric nature

I could see Zeke also enrolled too probably a semester after when you got to know Eren and you two became a thing and he would probably be there to just ruin it.

It had been a little bit since you and Eren had gotten together and you two were getting to know each other even further.

Though when Zeke came into the picture one day (he recognized you from that one night before you had your memory erased) things were different.

And he saw how you were with Eren and he wanted to end it cause he's not on the best of terms with Eren.

Picture this convo between you and Zeke meeting:

You were walking past each other till you bumped into him. (He did this on purpose) “I’m sorry.” You'd say as you stopped to meet eyes with him.

“You look familiar.” He'd say a little confused.

“I’ve never met you before.” You'd shake your head admitting the truth.

“Are really sure about that?” He'd ask, approaching you closer.

“I really don’t think I know you.”

“Huh, he really did a good job didn’t he—-“

Of course, before anything could happen Eren stepped in, “Zeke, I didn't know you were coming to town.”

"Well, you know how it is. I missed my little brother."

"You two are brothers? Eren, how come you didn't tell me?" You’d ask with a confused expression.

“Oh gosh, maybe I said too much? I'll see you around, Y/n.” Zeke would wink before he left you two be.

And this would lead Eren to probably lie to keep you from questioning.

You'd find out what Eren was because Zeke brought up animal attacks or missing people and he'd ask questions that really made you think. Plus you were starting to notice things about Eren that weren't normal.

For example, if you happen to bleed he tends to act differently, or if your neck is near him he tends to step away.

You saw his eyes change, they were probably red.

Zeke wanted to ruin things for Eren so he most likely gave you back your memories since Eren was just protecting you.

So when you got them back you were terrified in the moment and you hated that Zeke had made you relive those moments of when he drained a bod/y of b*ood and now Eren erased your memory.

And Zeke was just going to use you as food for his own selfishness and ruin Eren’s life even more.

But luckily Eren steps in before you can be bitten. And while the two of them are fighting you decide to run away cause you’re scared out of your mind.

When you stopped to catch your breath Eren found you. He approached you with caution since he can only imagine what you think rn.

“Y/n, I’m sorry Zeke did that too you.”

“You knew who I was, that’s why you approached me.” You’d say upset.

“No, I compelled you to protect you. But I never knew that girl I protected was you, because I’ve compelled so many people before to cover my brother’s tracks.”

“Because he drinks b/ood and k*lls innocent people—all those missing people come from the both of you?”

“No, no, no, I don’t drink from people, I use b/ood bags. I'm not like other vampires."

"So you don't hurt people?"

"No--"

"Then what about Zeke--all those people who've gone missing? You know about it and you don't stop him." You’d frown with a terrified look on your face.

"Y/n, please listen to me--" he’d beg, wanting to reach out to you.

"No, stay away."

"Y/n, I know you don't trust me but please. Let me explain."

"Please, just go a-away, Eren.”

“Y/n, please. I would never hurt you.” He’d say approaching you with an apologetic look on his face as he reached out to grab your hand.

“If that’s true then p-promise me you’ll let me go and you’ll leave me a-alone.”

He’d think for a moment.

“Eren, please, p-please promise m-me you’ll go.”

He wouldn't give you an answer but he would leave seeing how you reacted.

Couple moments

You both are just cute tbh. Eren would do anything for you like you mean so much.

He can "fly" so he has taken you up on rough tops or in the sky to show you the moon or the city view.

"It's beautiful up here." You'd smile.

"It's better when you're in the view tho." He'd smile before bringing you in for a kiss.

He can overhear any convo you're having so be aware.

Eren might tease you for it later.

"So a little birdie told me you liked that first kiss I gave you." He'd give a smug smile as he stood at the door of your room.

"You mean the one you stole?" You'd look back at him only to end up smiling.

He is very protective over you since you’re human.

Like no shit if someone bit you or hurt you he'd be real mad.

Eren has like great reflexes to so I mean good luck trying to hit with something cause he's just gonna catch it.

And I mean he’d probably teach you all the ways you can protect yourself from vampires.

Just in case he’s not there you have a way to fend for yourself.

He always shared memories of his past about what things were like and where he’s traveled.

“Close your eyes.”

“Why?”

“Just close your eyes, no peeking.”

“Okay?”

“Take my hand and just relax.” So before you know it you're seeing memories from the past which are always so interesting.

He’s full of surprises like all the time.

Likes to sneak up on you since he has super speed so it’s fun to scare you.

Gets you flowers on your dates cause he’s a little old-fashioned.

Always gives you a smug smile cause he knows how you feel about it.

Has a lot of playful kisses with you.

Plays with your hand.

Lots of forehead kisses.

Teases you about vampire s*x.

Oh gosh he probably has tattoos so this is just—-where do I begin?

Anyways I see that he’s also a real sensual guy here so he likes to distract you with being handsy all the time.

He is very playful too and I mean like he will chase you around his place.

He’ll playfully nibble on your ear and growl.

Like he likes to tackle you, not much different from werewolf eren.

Pins you against the wall or down on a surface.

And he’ll even put you over his shoulders or pick you up and spin you around.

This is mostly when you joke with him about being old and he’s just like “alright, that’s it.” 😂 But he loves this part about you.

He has a red car that’s like an oldie tbh.

Cause he probably really liked the 50s and 60s tbh.

He gave you a necklace once and it’s to protect you away from anyone who could harm you. It probably has your birthstone or something with some magic in it.

I see that he has some photos of what he was like in the 1800s but there aren’t too many tbh.

Loves to put a strand of hair behind your ear and trace your facial features with his fingertips only for him to brush his fingers against your lip.

He’d never drink from you unless you forced him to bc he was on the verge of dying.

Only uses b/ood bags so you never have to see him bite someone and it’s mostly cause he doesn’t want to hurt someone.

Eren likes to have late-night talks with you whether it's in person or over the phone bc he loves having you smile.

Would be the type to throw rocks at your window or climb through your window just to see you.

You get to watch the moon and the stars while you two look at the sky from the rooftop.

although you two love each other it can be hard with him being a vampire because it has put you in danger.

You two usually fight about him not wanting to have you be in danger and the fact of you becoming a vampire.

Eren wouldn't force you to turn, in fact, he hopes you never become a vampire.

But he knows he can't control that 100%.

Even so, he hates when you revert to it and when you talk about the fact how you'll get old and he's still going to be young.

He knows you two will have to come to a decision at some point of either leaving or having you turn.

He is rough, like pretty rough.

would definitely rip off your clothes without a care in the world like even it was your favorite shirt, too bad.

he says he'll buy you a new one, but when does he ever?

Eren's very passionate though, so maybe that can make up for things.

He'd bite you but not harmful, but he likes that his fangs can graze over your skin.

Hickies all the way tbh, like he loves marking you up.

Likes to play with your lip when you two are having a quiet moment.

You've had s*x in his car before like idk, i just see that.

Most of the time you have it as his place, god forbid if his brother ever saw you two. But I'm sure he has.

Ending

There are so many ways this could've ended but why do I get the feeling that this wouldn't end well.

If it ends well he either became human (I'm not sure how) or you became an immortal somehow.

And you two were always together, but I don't you two had a family if you two were immortal can idk I don't think vampires procreate but it kinda depends I guess.

Eren could've d*ed trying to save you at one point, leaving you to live as a human but alone. Or you ended up turning after because of something that happened which caused you to be immortal.

Or you ended up sacrificing yourself to have him live, I mean both ways just sad as hell.

I think it would be a sad ending, there my fav tbh.

summary: on a night out, atsumu manages to get his next flings number. written on a flimsy napkin, they scribble a cute “call me” and their number. however, the next morning atsumu realizes the last few digits are smudged. with his superb guessing skills, he manages to guess the last 3 digits….or what he thinks is the 3 digits. so what happens when atsumu texts y/n some raunchy messages? he gets called a pervert.

Hearing the sound of keys you jump out of bed to meet Meian at the door. Sprinting towards the front door and unlocking it before he could even finish putting the keys in, you smile at him.

“Hey? I thought you would still be asleep.”

“I was actually awake early but the wildest thing just happened.”

You reach towards the bags Meian has in his hands, take one and start walking towards the kitchen, “How much did you buy? I thought you were just making me breakfast, not breakfast, lunch and dinner for the next week?”

“I just knew you didn't have anything, didn't want you to starve. Its not a big deal, it was all on sale anyway.” he flashes a grin at you as you walk towards him with your arms out.

“Well thank you, I appreciate the help.” He wraps his arms around your shoulders and rests his head on top of yours. "And once I finally have a job, I promise to buy you dinner!"

Looking up at him, he raises one eyebrow, "You think all of this is worth a single dinner?" He motions to the 5 large bags filled to the top resting on your counter.

"I think my continued friendship is worth even more than this." You release him to make a heart with your hands in front of you. He scoffs but you don't miss the smile he tries to hold back, as he begins to unpack the bags.

“But, oh god listen to what happened this morning some random man sent me a nude!”

“Sorry, what?” he stops putting stuff away to fully turn towards you

“It's all good now though because we are kinda friends, and I know it sounds insane but think about it, you are my only friend so I can use all the new people I can get. Plus, he seemed chill even though I like screamed at him through text and turns out it was all a mistake anyway so its perfectly fine. But, I do think the jet lag heavily effected my decision.”

You meet his wide eyes looking at you with utter confusion, trying to comprehend what you just said, he asks you to explain the story to him.

You pull out your phone to show him the texts and let him scroll through the conversation.

He pauses as he looks at the number, “Did you ever get their name?”

“Nope. All I know is he is a man, didn't even get his age. Why?”

Meian places your phone down on the counter top as he grabs his phone from his pocket, opening it and going to his contacts.

“Do you know him?” You yell while trying to look at his phone screen over his shoulder.

Opening his contacts he starts to type in the number and once the entire number is typed in, the result pops up.

“Fuck, this is awkward.” Meian mumbles.

"Wait! Isn't this that one guy who is always on some new twitter drama page every other day? You always complained how you had extra PR meetings because of him right?"

You sit for a second to contemplate the situation, “No... this is good. I can mess with him a bit” you said while smirking, thinking of every way you could confuse him by already knowing who he is.

“No. I'm gonna call him out for it, that's not how you treat people." He tells you, while starting to draft a text message to the setter.

“Meian.” you say as you pull his face towards you, missing how his breath hitches. Looking into his eyes you say “I'm okay, it ended up being a really funny situation. If anything, its more comforting that you actually know him, that means he isnt some creepy old dude or something. There's no need to even tell him, so promise you won't say anything just yet, okay?”

He looks at you as he begins to say something, but you glare back at him. He sighs as he mumbles out an ‘okay’.

“Thank you! So now, lets make breakfast because I have a lot of job searching to do today.”

“Well this entire situation makes me want to not tell you about this job I might have gotten you. He is Atsumu’s twin but-”

“No! None of that, I want to hear about the job. Please~”, you stretch out the last syllable of the word until he says, “Okay fine, but stay the hell away from Atsumu. I'm telling you this because I care about you, he is not good news. Just, don't let him hurt you okay?”

“Pinky promise!” You say as you grab his hand and fold it so his pinky is the only finger left up. You quickly wrap your pinky around his and giggle.

“You still put a lot of faith in pinky promises huh?” Meian laughs as you both reminisce the hundreds of pinky promises you forced him to make.

“They are the only form of assurance that works.” You smile at him, “Don't act like you didn't believe in them a few years ago.”

“Y/N,” Meian says quietly. You turn to look at him, trying to avoid his eyes.

“Yeah?” you whisper back. He sticks out his hand clenched in a fist while he slowly lifts up his pinky, “Promise me you'll come back?”

Your eyes begin to water as you bite your lip to keep it from quivering. You wrap your pinky around his and whisper, “Promise. I promise I'll come back to you.”

Now both in tears, he grabs you and pulls you into a hug.

After you finish reenacting the last time you saw each other before you left, you take a bow. He stares at you with a deadpan expression as you come back up, “I was worried you would never come back to Japan, sorry for caring about you a little bit. Won't do it again.” He huffs while you run up next to him by the stove, “I would never leave you alone here, you would be so bored without me.” You grin at him, “Now, start cooking and tell me about the job!”

Tribe Nine progress report #00 (part 1)

Translations from the official Tribe Nine website, supplemented with things that were said on stream.

Character names are in Japanese order because that's how they're officially romanized.

Also, I'll be posting this in multiple parts because I reached the image limit on this post.

World

In the country of Neotokyo, year 20XX, youth with no hope for society's future form Tribes to find a place to call home.

With time, the disputes between Tribes continued to grow more and more violent. The situation was very intense in the eyes of the Neotokyo government, so they enforced the XB Law, which limited the quarrels between Tribes to only Extreme Baseball.

Pitch, bat, and trade blows. The youths were crazy over this radical pride-staking game.

XB (Extreme Baseball)

A duel method similar to baseball, designed to settle conflicts between Tribes. As determined by the XB Law, the loser must obey the winner's order(s).

Runners and the fielder with the ball can initiate battles with each other for the right to reach a base. The slugfests between players equipped with body-enhancing gear are XB's greatest trademark.

Rules

The games must be played late at night when there are no longer any onlookers.

The games will use the entire City as its field.

Batters are only out by tag out or by strike out.

There is no home run. In case of an extra-base hit, the runner(s) can run through the bases until they initiate a battle against the fielder with the ball.

A fielder with the ball is allowed to initiate a battle against a runner, staking the runner's right to reach a base.

Players can equip XB Gear to enhance their physical abilities.

Anything can be used as XB Gear, as long as it's approved by the Judge Robot acting as the umpire for the game.

The win condition is either scoring more points than the opposing team or knocking out the opponents in battle.

The winner can give any order to the loser.

Characters

[This section will have some character profiles for a few Tribes, but before that, I'll have to go over some elements that were only explained in a previous interview and in the stream. The game will contain 23 Tribes, each themed after one of the 23 wards of Tokyo. The names of the Tribes here all match the names of the wards they represent. Their base concepts will be all about local stereotypes, of course, but in the stream, Kodaka compared them to One Piece pirate crews in terms of how much individuality the characters will get within the team.]

Minato Tribe

A Tribe famed as the strongest in Neotokyo. They value the bonds between teammates and genuinely enjoy XB.

[The Minato ward is the ward where the Tokyo Tower (also called Minato Tower) is. Due to holding the symbol of the city, Kodaka chose it to be the ward of the anime's protagonist Tribe.]

Kamiya Shun (Leader)

"What could be more exciting than XB?"

The founder and leader of the Minato Tribe, as well as the main reason why they're considered the strongest. He is one of the very few Beam Bat users. He's as top tier as you'd expect as a pitcher and batter, not to mention he's unmatched at a fistfight.

He enjoys unchallenged popularity on the XB field, but he also has a more goofy side. His antics include giving his teammate incomprehensible nicknames and getting hungover on coffee, among others.

A timid bullied boy. He was getting into trouble with the town's delinquents as usual when Kamiya and Taiga saved him. He was bound by his own perceived uselessness, but Kamiya noticed his natural agility, wits, and keen eyes and he was invited to use these "weapons" of him for the Minato Tribe.

You got nothing to worry about, you got me as the captain on this ride aboard the S.S. Big Ship Taiga, where S.S. stands for "safe and sound"!

A hot-blooded boy who came to Neotokyo from the other side of the ocean in pursuit of one dream: winning against the strongest man, Kamiya Shun! He joins the Minato Tribe along with Haru. He's a novice in XB and struggles to memorize the rules, but he keeps challenging his opponents with his dauntless courage and the brute strength he's so proud of.

Arisugawa Saori (Vice-Leader)

There's no ball I can't catch!

The Minato Tribe's vice-leader. Despite her frail looks, she's an outstanding catcher, capable of stopping even Kamiya's blazing fastballs. She takes charge, commanding Minato's ensemble of oddballs since Kamiya is too careless to be a real leader.

No one values the members of Minato's team more than her, but she is extremely strict about rules and morals, never hesitating to unload a cartridge of her favorite airsoft gun on a transgressing teammate.

Mita Santarou

A member of the Minato Tribe. He claims to be the ace of the team but is actually just a reserve pitcher. He's a pervert and a sleazeball and often gets punished by Arisugawa for it, but he shows no signs of wanting to fix his flaws.

He tends to abuse his seniority over the new members, but he's as caring and friendly as he is unreasonably bossy.

Daimon Manami

Despite his usual calm, no one can stop him when he snaps.

A mysterious boy who suddenly appeared asking to join the Minato Tribe. He can't properly play XB because his left hand is injured. But for unknown reasons, he's very knowledgeable about XB tactics and how to handle a Beam Bat and makes full use of his ingenuity to bring victory to Minato.

He seems to have some kind of goal in approaching the Minato Tribe, but what could it be?

Chiyoda Tribe

A tribe under the patronage of the king of Neotokyo. They have been suppressing many other Tribes all over the country to ostentate their power.

[Chiyoda is the ward where the Palace is, so the Chiyoda Tribe are the guys with political power]

Ootori Oujirou (Leader)

Katie's 2021 Reading Stats

Wooo, it's the time of year again, when I get to crunch my GoodReads numbers re how many books of each type and format I've read. :D As usual, the definition of "book" is rather loose: it can be a picture book (I read a lot of these to keep my daily streak going before it broke), a single comic, a comic collection, a middle grade book, an audiobook/audio drama of any length, a full-length adult novel, etc. Numbers are rounded to the nearest percent so probably won't add up to 100.

I can't be bothered to find my post from last year, but I imagine this years audiobook percent was higher because I'm finally allowed to have headphones at work again! =D To that number's just going to increase next year. eBooks continue to be my preferred, with phsyical books pretty much reserved only for reference books that can't really be experienced on a phone screen and books that aren't available as an ebook.

The weirdest thing I must admit I read: "Her Fertile Futa Benefits: Fruitful Futa-on-Female Perks." What can I say? I'm still so amused people are making money on wild sexy fanfiction tropes. You go, babe.

I relistened to the first five books in the Extinction Cycle and plan to get back to the other two and then the four Extinction Cycle: Dark Age ones I haven't read before after that. Still really like them; the characters are just so good. That'll probably happen after I finish with the Grishaverse, of which I've just finished the Shadow and Bone trilogy. Liked it okay, heard Six of Crows is better (and more queer) and hope to find that true.

As far as my faves and least faves...

You've all had to live with me whining about Thrawn Ascendancy and The High Republic. We do not stan. XD We will not spend more time on those here.

Practical Magic: A Beginner's Guide to Crystals, Horoscopes, Psychics, and Spells

As for next year's forecast, it looks a lot like in the past: I'll keep reading my Star Wars, likely whining about every new thing that comes out. I'll also continue my journey through Legends. I'm only eleven Young Jedi Knights books away from my dream of finaly starting NJO! XD You'll also see there's a witchy book on that list above, a topic I've become curious about lately, and though I'm not gonna run off and becom Wiccan, I do have a short stack of similar books on my TBR. Angela smiled and took the key from the manager, finding her way into the room, many memories had made their way into this small little room, Mercy could swear it even smelled like Sombra at this point. She let out a small sigh at the fact that her girlfriend STILL wasn’t here yet.

“Late as always Olivia.”

Mercy sat down on the one armchair that resided in the room, she lounged on it and eventually dozed off.

Around 20 minutes passed, and Sombra finally arrived, making her way into the room, and noticing the sleeping Mercy on the chair. She stopped and stared for a moment, admiring the angelic figure before her, pure beauty had never been seen before until Sombra met Mercy, and she fell, HARD.

Olivia finally stepped towards the sleeping woman, and began to litter her face with kisses, leaving small purple lipstick imprints all over her features. Mercy just pulled her arms up to cover her face and began to giggle.

“Y-You know everytime you do that I hehe.. I have to wash the lipstick off my face, right?” Mercy said, lowering her arms.“I can’t help it ángel! You are just too cute miel..” Sombra said in a snarky tone.“Well now I have to spend an extra 10 minutes wiping lipstick off before we can actually go on a date.” Angela said with a laugh.“How about I give you a little more to wipe off?” Sombra flirted.“Oh?”

Olivia smiled and placed her index finger under Angela’s chin, and placed her thumb on top of her chin, leaning in and kissing her gently, Angela kissed back, and then began to smile again.

“You are incredibly cute Olivia.”“Yeah, coming from the literal ANGEL, you’re the cute one miel, I can barely keep my hands off you.” She leaned in and kissed her again.

Mercy’s cheeks flushed, and she hid her face in her hands.

“I need to wash off this lipstick now.” She said, standing up from her chair, Sombra giving a hand in lifting her up.

Angela walked over to the bathroom and grabbed a rag, gently washing away the purple markings left on her face. Sombra began to strip down to change into casual clothes as well. Mercy peeked over at Olivia while she was changing, and then quickly looked back in the mirror, her face flushed.

Sombra noticed this, and walked over to Mercy in just her underwear.

“You know you’re allowed to look at me ángel, right?” Sombra said slyly, wrapping an arm around Mercy’s waist.

Mercy just looked away, continuing to wipe her face.

“Right, ángel?” Sombra repeated.

“Can I be honest with you Olivia?”

“¿Qué tal?”

“I don’t think I’ve ever been quite so in love with someone liebe, I get so nervous, so many butterflies when you are near, sometimes it’s easy to forget how long we’ve been together because of how childish I still feel about your affection. I love you, Olivia.” Angela said, placing a kiss on her lover’s forehead.

Sombra placed both her hands over her mouth as the colour in her face deepened. “I could marry you right now Angela, I swear.”

“If only we could meine geliebte.”

Sombra frowned, walking into the other room to change into her outfit for the day, she finished changing, and Mercy walked out of the bathroom. As soon as she did, Sombra quickly wrapped her arms around Mercy again.

“Sombra?” “What’s stopping us?”“What do you mean?”“What’s stopping us from just leaving and getting married? Why can’t we just run from all this shit and just have each other?”

Mercy paused briefly, speaking up again shorty after.

“Talon might have you killed, and Overwatch would arrest me for treason.”

Angela lifted a hand to scratch her own head, and then placed her other hand on Olivia’s.

“Then.. Then I’ll join Overwatch! I barely exist already, do you really think Talon would be able to find me if I just.. Erased myself?” “Maybe, maybe not, but that still leaves the entire “Joining Overwatch” part Olivia. You ARE a part of Talon, it would take some serious time and reasoning to convince everyone there.”“I’d probably have to be a rat, you’re right.. But..”“But?”“I just know I’d do anything to be with you Angela.”

Angela began to tear up, and tightly wrapped her arms around Olivia, placing her chin on Sombra’s head.

“Ich liebe dich.. Meine geliebte.. Ich liebe dich über alles.” “H-Hey come on now Angela.. Don’t start, you know I will t-too.” She said, choking back tears.“I will do everything I can to ensure your safety meine geliebte, I promise.”“I promise the same for you, mi amor.”

Angela let go of Olivia, and she did the same, Mercy walked over to the door and looked out of the peephole just out of curiosity, and then waltzed back, sitting on the bed, Sombra took a seat next to her, laying her head on her girlfriend’s shoulder.

“Most of the people have already left the base, but Jack should still be there, we can go talk to him privately, and try to convince him to let you into Overwatch.” She paused. “But please, Olivia, try not to be rude or snarky, Jack will take that as a sign of insecurity and will be less likely to trust you. “Oh pobrecita, Jacky Morrison can’t take a little joke?”“I’m serious Olivia, if we’re serious about this.. I just want to ensure you DO get into Overwatch, we HAVE taken in criminals before, but never quite like this, so please, just stay with me and do as I say.”“Okay Angela, lighten up a little, I know I know this is serious, but right now it’s just you and me, I just want to enjoy these moments while I can, because I am assuming that they WILL detain me in the base?”

Mercy gave a small sigh, and leaned into her girlfriend.

“Maybe, but I will do everything I can to make sure it doesn’t stay that way.”“You’d better.” Sombra said, reaching up to boop the nose of her lover.“We should go before it gets too late and Jack leaves.”“Okay, lead the way Angela.”

Sombra and Mercy held hands and walked towards the Overwatch base, when they got near the base, Sombra went invisible and followed closely behind Mercy. She walked up the the guards stationed outside and gave them a wave and a smile.

“Back again Miss Ziegler?” One of the guards chimed in.“Yes, I still have patients and work I need to attend to, but even doctors need breaks.”“I understand Miss Ziegler.” He said with a smile, as she handed him her ID card, and walked inside.

The two walked deeper inside, and Sombra unstealthed with a sigh. Mercy just leaned in and kissed her girlfriend’s cheek, when Sombra went to do the same, Angela stopped her with a hand.

“Lipstick, Olivia.”“Dammit, you’re right.”

Angela gave a small giggle and walked towards Jack Morrison’s office. When she reached his office, she gave a gentle knock and turned to Sombra.

“Wait here until I come get you okay? If someone comes, stealth.”“Got you.”

Mercy opened the door and walked inside to see Jack hunched over his desk, she walked over to him and placed a hand on his shoulder.

“Are you feeling alright Jack?” She said with a smile.Jack leaned up from his desk and turned his chair around. “Ah, Dr. Ziegler, you’re back sooner than I expected. Yeah I’m fine, just tired.”“Having trouble sleeping again?”“Yeah, it’s no big deal though.“Mm. Jack listen, I have something important we need to talk about.”“What do you mean Angela?”“I’ve brought someone here, someone very special to me, someone hoping to take refuge here, and I needed to come to you about it first.”“You don’t always have to come directly to me for new recruits Doctor, you can-”“Jack, this case is special, she’s..”“She?”“Yes, she.” “Huh, I never took you for the type Angela.”“Besides the point Jack, she’s.. From Talon.”

Jack’s eyes widened and his mouth slightly agape, he furrowed his brows.

“You brought someone from Talon here? Are you crazy?! She could tear us apart from the inside out!”“It’s not like that Jack! She’s different! We’ve.. We’ve been together almost 2 years now.”“2 years?! Angela are you insane?! How much information has she fed to Talon?!”“Nothing Jack! You’re not listening to me! She’s WILLINGLY fed personal Talon information to me to show her trust in me. If anything, she’s in deeper shit than we are, if they found out about her, they’d likely kill her.”

Jack placed a hand on his face and looked away confused, he turned his chair back towards his desk and spoke again.

“So who IS she?” he said in a gruff voice.“Let me get her.”

Angela walked towards the door and out into the hallway, she stared at Sombra for a moment before whispering “Are you ready?” Sombra just gave a gentle nod, before following Mercy inside, holding her hand. Soldier turned towards the pair.

“It’s her, Jack, Sombra.”“You’re absolutely insane Doctor.”“Do you really think that she would go out of her way to meet me at a motel weekly for 2 years just to take down Overwatch? Are you serious Jack?”“She’s the most dangerous hacker in the world Angela.”“And she wants to disappear Jack, she wants to be safe.. With me.”

Jack paused and let out a disgruntled sigh.

“You’re right about this situation being special Doctor Ziegler.”“I know, but I promise you her intentions are pure, I know her, ALL of her.”

Sombra blushed slightly, turning to Mercy, and burying her nose in her collarbone.

“Look! Look at how flustered she is Jack! Have you ever seen “The world’s most dangerous hacker” hide in the shoulder of a world renowned doctor? She’s still human Jack..”

Angela placed a hand on Olivia’s head and ran her hand through her hair.

“She even told me her name Jack, her REAL name.”

Jack was silent for a while before finally speaking up.

“We would need to make absolutely sure she’s not here to sabotage Overwatch.”“Then put us under surveillance Jack, you can have people check on us, and also have us under technological surveillance. I don’t care I just..” Mercy paused and closed her eyes. “I just want my girlfriend to be safe from harm.”“If I do that, you two would be confined to the Overwatch base, and have to be escorted by Overwatch agents, you’re still our doctor Miss Ziegler, so you would still be working, however you would be under the supervision of guards at all times, are you sure this is what you want Angela?” Jack said with remorse.“If it means that Sombra isn’t getting killed for having relations with an Overwatch agent, then I will gladly oblige to any precautionary measures Jack.”

Soldier just placed a hand on his forehead and sighed again.

“You must really like this girl Angela.” “I do, Jack, I really do.”

Sombra finally opened her mouth after being silent for ages.

“Never as much as I’ll like you though mi amor.”

Olivia turned her face to the side and pressed her cheek against Angela’s chest.

“Oh, so she DOES speak? For a second I thought she’d gone mute after meeting you Angela.” Sombra side-eyed Soldier and said “If I were to ever go mute from seeing the most incredible thing in the world, I would have gone mute over 2 years ago.”Angela giggled and wrapped her arms tightly around Olivia. “Such a charmer you are.”

Olivia looked away from Soldier and thought deeply about what she should say next “Just stay with me and do as I say” Mercy’s words echoed in her mind.

“I know you’re skeptical, I got it, but I’m just saying, everyone sees me as the most powerful hacker in the world, do you really think I wouldn’t be able to find any important information about Overwatch in the blink of an eye? OF COURSE I knew where this base was but you know who doesn’t? Talon. I’ve been purposely keeping secrets to keep Angela safe, doesn’t that mean anything to you Morrison? I could DIE for doing this.”

Jack groaned and turned back towards his desk, resting his head on his arm.

“Look, I want to believe you, and our beloved doctor, hell I trust what you say, however, if I were to just let you in here without any investigation, Overwatch would be in shambles and I would get SO MANY complaints, that’s too much paperwork. You’ll be confined to the base but..” He paused, avoiding eye contact. “You two can be confined together, Sombra, you will stay with Doctor Ziegler in her office while she’s working, and you two can share a room, you will still be under major surveillance, so keep that in mind,

Angela gave him a wide smile and let go of Sombra, running over to hug Jack tightly.

“Thank you so so much Jack, thank you.”“Yeah yeah alright Angela. Could you also change my sleeping medication so I can actually sleep tonight?”“Of course Jack, care to escort us back to my office?”

Angela let go of him and headed out the door, Sombra walked close to Jack and stared at him for a moment before whispering “Gracias amigo.” and walking out to Angela, grasping her hand. Soldier stood up from his chair and saluted to Sombra, before following out with them.
