first of all, the duffers absolutely didn't have the full series planned out from the start because Stranger Things was originally pitched as a limited series with 1) the potential for a direct "sequel" that would follow the younger kids as adults (basically, they pitched "It") or 2) an outright sci-fi horror anthology. second of all, even if the duffers did have everything mapped out from the start that doesn't mean that plan isn't garbage.

You know, as much as I personally feel episodes revolving around him are a damp squib at best atm; it's both a blessing and a curse that modern Randy especially has batshit insane takes that are not unlike things I've heard from various adults I actually grew up under - obviously not the only instance but you can tell underneath comedic absurdity that Matt and Trey write from life juuuuuust a touch at times

Fwiw it's kinda oddly cathartic to see a goofy comedy show feel like it's practically quoting your elders, with how ridiculously their opinions on "wokeness" and cultural appropriation can often come across without their awareness being part of the joke lmao

I finally finished How to Get Away with Murder! it was my background show for knitting to, so the fact that it kept getting crappier with each season didn't bother me but hoooo boy! they sure did come back swinging for the finale. that closing scene was fucking perfect.
