hale appleman as eliot is very good at giving off this really specific vibe of a high strung yorkie who needs to be the center of attention at all times but also if you look at him for too long he'll explode
i’m rewatching the magicians and on season 2 episode 12 “ramifications” quentin asks “what’s more important than a life?” to which mayakovsky answers “you talk like life means something” and quentin says “if it doesn’t, then what’s the point? this is what magic is for” and quite honestly i’m about to start biting
the thing about the magicians is that. well i’m no expert but i’m pretty sure tv shows are not supposed to make you physically ill when you think about them.
thinking about Eliot having beef with the psychics and calling them losers in the first episode, Eliot who has a bulletproof spell he can give to Quentin to keep the specialist from reading his mind, Eliot who only Margo knows is from Indiana and only because he had to tell her to pass the trials - and Eliot telling Quentin, who he's only known for a few weeks, about Logan Kinnear because he thinks it might make Quentin feel better.
Thanks to the rewatch chat (esp @bredalot and @cpmhew) for bringing this idea together.
I had some tentative plans for 1x01 vs 3x05 parallels, but now it's actually a set
I just love this moment, getting to see all the emotions as Eliot begins to remember. How much Quentin, their family, their lives together mean to him as it all comes flooding back...with the smell and taste of a peach. Regardless of what he says later...he feels so deeply about it. So glad we got this. It's also so striking/appropriate to me that Eliot remembers through vivid physical sensation, while Quentin remembers through reading. But this moment...somehow for me encapsulates everything.
getting very close to the point I stopped back when I first saw the show (pretty sure I stopped around the end of season 2 because I got so pissed with how it was going I never bothered with season 3) so here's a non comprehensive list of things I completely forgot about that happens in the magicians
eliot's clay-golem and subsequent coma after the golem dies while he's possessing it
the whole cacodemon thing
Quentin gets possessed and almost killed by niffin-Alice
mayakovsky shows up again in season 2 and is like. Penny's mentor for a little bit
magic gets fucked up for everybody because ember took a shit in the wellspring
Raynard the fox's demigod son is a highly favored and successful us senator who has accidentally and unknowingly been using his extremely powerful innate magic abilities to win at politics
the temporary alliance between Julia and the Beast
ok circling back to the Alice possessing Quentin thing most of the time when they're depicting the possession it's with Olivia Taylor Dudley as just Alice with the understanding that everyone else sees Quentin but there's like a 10 second scene with like 1 line where it's just Jason Ralph and holy SHIT it's really good they should've done that more I love it when someone is acting as a different character pretending to be their usual character and it was pulled off soooo well for just those few seconds that I wanted to see more of it so bad it's not even funny. anyways
julia does war crimes against sentient trees
THE BANK HEIST EPISODE!!!!
I was going to end the list here but it won't let me delete this bullet point so I'll take the opportunity to say that I like Fen way more than I did back when I first watched the show. she's cool.
In the latest gamechanger episode, i'm not sure if anybody else noticed but when everybody was being introduced again- the players in the 2nd round earliest- but yeah when they were introduced again for a very short second their title cards displayed a pun on their name relating to the loop !! in case you guys need it i decided to grab pics and stuff !!
[Photo ID: 7 images of contestants and guests of the episode's intro cards. Mike Trapp, Ify Nwadiwe, Siobhan Thompson, Sam Reich, Brian David Gilbert, Josh Ruben and Grant O'Brien. Except the names have been altered so that they reference the episode's 'time loop' theme and instead of their actual names they say 'Mike Trapped', 'Infinity Nwadiwe', 'Siobhan Thompsagain', 'Same Reich', 'Brian Déjà Gilbert', 'Josh Rewindben' and 'Grant O'Rerun'. Ify, Sam and Josh's cards are affected by visual effects like a glitched tv. End ID.]
Doctor Who is at its best when the plot is a little bit stupid, the special effects have the budget of a freddo, and the acting is completely and entirely sincere
quentin coldwater's entire character can be summed up by him struggling to summon the welters ball with magic until alice just bends down and picks it up because you really didn't have to use magic to do that
