Something about two touch-starved men who have rarely, if ever, been touched by another man without an undercurrent of violence, casually touching each other in increasingly intimate ways even before they process their developing romantic feelings for each other.

Something about this show actually looking at the complexity of toxic masculinity and how it warps men but also how they can be slowly unwarped by letting them have and express emotions other than anger.

what's your opinion on fanfics about dnp? (more in a way of do you think that it's crossing boundaries and/or being parasocial)

i'm of the same mind of dnp in that phanfic is fucking incredible. it's an important and valid way to express yourself, as well as a building block of our community. i don't think it's crossing boundaries, as it's fiction. i don't see it as parasocial either--you're writing for you and others like you. most people don't want dnp reading their fics, it's not for them in a sense, it's for us.

i think dnp are extremely aware of fanfic and its value and place in community. they've always encouraged it, appreciated the support, and given us space about it. they're not ones to make videos about it and mock fans for it (which happened to some of our lovely fic writers here writing for other yt fandoms, and i'm so sorry about it). dnp are fandom culture people. they've written fic themselves! and published it in their book!

the word parasocial has been twisted lately to imply any fan support is unnatural and should be shamed, which is complete fucking bullshit. making art is always important and valued. and it is necessary for your existence as a human, but also for the thing you're a fan of to thrive.

the parasocial side comes in once you start believing you know this person. and that you're their real friend. when in reality, they do not know you specifically, and you are not their friend, you are an audience member.

so a parasocial relationship only occurs when people start crossing boundaries (digging for not publicly available information, contacting people in their personal life, showing up to their house, etc). which, is absolutely nowhere close to real fan behaviour.

tl;dr: phanfic is great, i love you fic writers, parasociality is a problem but not one that we have

That it would override all their Dalek programming so much that all the hatred that had previously made up their existence would no longer be relevant... I need to lie down.

What I love so much about Arthur is that he's so much more than meets the eye. On the surface, he's rough and gruff and mean and rude. He walks about with an air of indestructible confidence and has a take charge attitude that a lot of people might find off putting or intimidating. He slings guns with the best of the best and confronts danger with confidence and control. He lives hard and he lives fast. He's resourceful and intelligent even if he plays it off and the others poke and prod him about being the brawn, not the brains of the whole operation.

But beyond all that, he's well-mannered with the ladies and supportive of everyone he meets unless they give him a reason not to be. He has a heart for animals and a passion for writing and drawing (sometimes I like to think that in another life he would have been an artist). He loves to act as if the favors he does for people put him out or inconvenience him, but in some way, I think he does those things to reconcile with himself and perhaps even a god above because of the guilt he harbors for all of the crimes he's committed, evern though it's absolutely a way of life for him, and the only kind of life he's ever really known.

I think there's a certain immaturity and maybe even inexperience with Arthur when it comes to being in love or even just forming friendships with others. His formative years were spent mostly under the questionable supervision of Dutch and Hosea, and I know they weren't teaching him about manners and ethics and how to properly court ladies and talk to people. Much of the way Arthur treats people is based on what he's picked up on his own throughout his travels, and I'm sure there's some of Dutch and Hosea's charming, charismatic influence there as well. Just like so many of us, he is the sum total of everyone he's ever met, and I just think he's fascinating in every way.

every other fic in the jason todd tag whether its romantic or platonic or whatever just has to include something about the no kill rule or him giving up killing like is it not enough ! have we not hashed out this argument enough already ! can I not read some jason content without having to be randomly bombarded by the morality police and how “oh jasons not killed anyone for x amount of months thats great! we knew u could do it jay”

and I wish I was just joking like I really do but I have scoured the tag almost from top to bottom and it always, without a doubt, has to come up at some point. its his fucking defining character trait apparently. mind u he’s not even the only dc character that kills but yall just won’t let it go! I do not need jason giving up his stance on killing to be written out for me to be able enjoy content about him

and whether its included so that his relationships with other characters can be viewed as ‘realistic’ is just so. what does it matter. its already fan-fiction who the hell cares about justifying the universe that you’re choosing to write him in

okay i’m primarily an angst writer but. just imagine starlo slowly opening up to you. letting down his facade of “North Star” around you, dropping the fake accent, eventually taking off his hat… just letting you in, and eventually letting others in, too. you help each other grow. and eventually he’s “North Star” not just for others, but for himself too. he can have fun without feeling pressured to just make others feel better…

Her husband, who has long since taken off his glasses and rolled over on his side, deigns to grunt at her.

"No," she presses. "Kazuo. We have to. That-- that boy."

Kurusu Kazuo, married to his wife for eighteen years and exasperated for each and every one, gusts out a sigh and rolls over onto his back. "Hicchan."

"That's not my son." It tears out of her, this horrible thing that she says, rips its way free from her breast and hovers bloody and menacing between them. The wound it leaves isn't clean; she's already short of breath, heavy and aching. "That's not my Akichan. You have to see it too. You have to."

A pause; Kazuo finally rolls to face her entirely. "Hicchan. We've talked about this."

"No, I've talked about this! You just bury your head in the paper and go 'yes dear', I know you don't listen to me! That boy doesn't move like my son, he doesn't speak like my son, he doesn't act like my son--"

"And what are we to do?" His voice is firm, but hollow. "We were lucky to get him back in one piece in the first place, after that man. He's a teenage boy, and he's back with his family. You'll see. Akira is still your son."

Hisoka takes a breath, another, wet, gulping. "I'll just have to remind him," she says, mostly to herself. "That he's my baby. That he belongs with me, with us, right? Once he gets his legs back under him, he'll realize he can stay here and be safe. No more of this-- escapism."

Her baby, her boy; she almost went mad the year he was gone, but Kazuo had expressly forbidden her from calling more than once a week. And half the time she could tell Akira wasn't even paying attention to her, could hear the low background murmur of voices behind him.

Her poor baby boy, all alone in that terrible city she'd barely escaped from. What a blessing it is to live here in Inaba, quiet and calm and safe.

What a relief it will be for her boy, her calm and placid boy, when he finally calms down and remembers who he is, who he's supposed to be.

I was hoping maybe one or two people would recognize me, but I actually lost count of how many people knew who I was! There was much lamentation about early cancellation. I even had someone come up and ask my for a picture as well, which was super flattering.

I was also super, super self conscious about wearing something so tight, I've never worn anything so form fitting as an adult- completely forgetting that anime conventions are full of people breaking every single societal norm involving clothing so once I got there I was like "oh lol nvm we're all just doing what we want without judgement, I love you guys" and proceeded to feel totally comfortable and normal.

I had to resist the urge to t-pose on every escalator.

did you ever make a post about pete not liking tankhun ? i know you mentioned it a few times in your tags but i don't remember seeing a post. (i share your opin ions.)

I definitely toyed with the idea of meta or a gifset but I didn't ever make a full post! I love unrequited love and I ESPECIALLY love the extremely rare platonic version which Tankhun and Pete absolutely nail in my opinion!

There are loads of moments where Pete's smile drops around Tankhun very quickly, or he insults Tankhun behind his back. Instead of laughing things off like Arm and Pol, he almost has a wincing fear-response to Tankhun, which we don't really see at all from the other bodyguards.

I think that Tankhun likes to think of himself as being close friends with his bodyguards, and he does genuinely show a lot of open affection for Pete and eventually concern for his safety. But I think ultimately for Pete, Tankhun is just a part of Pete's job, and over time resentment has built up until he thinks of Tankhun as one of the *worst* parts of it. I definitely don't think he resents Tankhun enough to hurt or endanger him, but that's about as far as it goes, there's certainly very little love there.

Something about that dynamic is just particularly brilliant, especially when combined with Pete's eventual defection from Tankhun's side to Vegas'. He chooses a man who has beaten and tortured him over a man who showers him in affection and throws parties on his return.

I utterly adore Tankhun but I think as a character that's grown up in a gilded cage, he doesn't really understand that what Pete needs is a sense of his own autonomy rather than being dragged to "fun" "lets cheer up Pete" parties that Tankhun has demanded on his behalf. At least with Vegas he *chose* to go back, he handed Vegas the ropes, let him lock him back up again. Even before he develops feelings for Vegas, Pete has clearly felt like a subhuman pet for Tankhun and the main family for a long, long time and I think ironically Vegas acknowledging Pete's humanity is the tipping point for him.

I think even without their nascent romantic love as a factor, Pete would always choose Vegas. Because despite the threat of suffering, he offers a sense of freedom that Tankhun's gilded cage does not. It all makes for an incredibly interesting betrayal, and makes Pete choosing Vegas over Tankhun all the more pointed. By choosing to be Vegas' pet, he chooses to be human.
