The conspiracy theorist in me thinks the reason we keep getting Love Never Dies productions is so they don’t make enough money and ALW can do them tax write offs.
But also, and this is after going to the concert which was pretty much sold out, maybe there really is a growing audience that enjoys LND for what it is and we’re experiencing some kind of retrospective love for it.

hiiiii ur the biggest theatre person ik and i watched phantom of the opera (2004) last night and was wondering if you’ve ever seen it & what you think about it ?? :0
i have seen it!! i don't hate it - obviously it's not perfect (why did they give gerard butler a mild sunburn and call it a day) but it's still nowhere near as bad as some of the movie musicals i've seen lmao. visually it's very fun and i do genuinely enjoy the performances for the most part HOWEVER my hottest take is that no movie adaptation can ever come close to phantom as a live stage musical bc it needs a huge orchestra blasting your eardrums and big lavish sets and ever so slightly campy operatic melodrama, none of which are quite as good on film

Okay but the moment in the LND tour when Gustave starts singing the main theme from Phantom and playing it on the piano altered my brain chemistry

Audio
Although he’s known in recent years for his role as the Witch’s Father/Ozian Official in the Broadway Production of Wicked, William Ryall also had a stint as The Auctioneer in the National Tour of Phantom of the Opera.
According to his website, William played The Auctioneer from October 2004 to around January/February of 2005 during the Tour’s stops in Cleveland, Indianapolis, and Tampa
From what I could find this Audio of The Phantom Tour on November 7, 2004 in Cleveland (Thanks @glassprism) is one of two audios from around the time Bill would have been in the cast so I’m assuming that this is him
Also featuring Tim Martin Gleason as Raoul
I included the Overture as well just because I love the audience reaction when the Chandelier is revealed

The Literal Phantom of the Opera (DpxDc prompt)
When Cassandra Cain first began taking ballet, her fellow dancers quickly warned her about the ghost haunting the theater.
"He likes to watch us. I see him looking down at the stage from the catwalk all the time."
"It looks like he stole one of the Phantom of the Opera masks last time a tour came through, but its been covered in stars!"
"I heard him when I was acting in Wicked. I was alone in the green room doing some last minute practice and I swear he was humming along while I was singing!"
"It was the phantom who stole my makeup from my dressing room I just know it!"
"Haley from front of house didn't believe he existed until they came backstage to grab supplies for seat repairs. I don't know what they saw, but now they refuse to go backstage."
"That ghost is evil. It pushed me down the stairs to the office and I tore my suit on the railing. Do you know how hard it is to find an all white suit on short notice? I'm lucky it didn't break my ankle!"
"We used to have balconies before the renovations. Sometimes it sounds like someone is moving inside the walls where they used to be."
"I'm not sure that the ghost is fully aware we're performers. A few years ago when Heathers was here, the actress for McNamara said that it felt like someone was hugging her after Lifeboat."
"I've seen him without the mask. His face looks like it was just... shredded. I only saw it once, but I'll never forget that face."
"I heard that he likes to mess with the equipment in the control booth."
Cass isn't sure that the ghost is real, but she is sure that the other dancers think he's real. They often gossip about the theater ghost in hushed whispers, knocking on wood at the very mention of him. Her teachers prefer not to talk about the ghost at all, but they don't deny its existence.
It's not until she is practicing alone on stage and feels eyes on her that she thinks there might be something to the ghost rumors.

Jonathan Harker praises the bottle of Tokaji wine he was served at Dracula's Castle on his first night there.
Tokaji is one of the oldest dessert wines. Sweet, intense in flavor, and prestigious. Produced in Tokay, Hungary since the 16th century. Most often paired with spicy and hot dishes.
Apparently Jonathan enjoys sweet, intense wines.
Erik in The Phantom Of The Opera novel offers Tokaji to Christine Daaé during her first visit in his lair.
Mephistopheles in Goethe's Faust serves it to the young lovestruck Siébel. (Siébel: 'No wine for me can ever be too sweet.' Mephistopheles: 'My best Tokaji shall presently appear.')
In the 19th century it was used as a remedy for plague and anemia
(all this occurred to me thanks to @wheresjonno while thinking about what Jonathan would enjoy in a euro food tour)
