We Should have Stayed in Gotham ch 4
(Almost every Maribat fic I read has the akuma class going to Gotham. But tell me which is more likely, a class touring the city of crime, or a class touring the city of lights? So here it is, the Daminette fic that only I asked for, where Gotham goes to Paris, and the poor students have to grapple with the fact that they have competition for the most dangerous city in the world. I wonder what will happen?) (a/n: Warning dark Conversation. Don't be taken off guard.)
ao3 Beginning Previous
Despite what his brothers might say, Damian did not hate fun. He just hated their idiotic brand of fun that usually found them needing Bruce and the WE PR team to bail them out of jail while Barbara laughed at them from the other side of the bars. (He would never forgive Todd from stopping him from freeing the Zoo Animals. They would have gotten away with it if he had just followed orders.) Still, he planned to have fun on this trip, especially at the Louvre. He had always wanted to see the inside of this place, the art, the history, maybe even correct some of the factual errors. A scavenger hunt would not interfere with that, even if it was tedious and pointless.
But then Alix and Kathryn had skated by waving a half-completed work sheet shouting, “You’re falling behind!” Apparently, they had gotten a head start by going through her father’s office. Mendeleiev just groaned as manic grins spread across multiple students’ faces, including Marinette’s.
And so it was, that before any of the teachers could stop them, the Parisians had grabbed their Gothamite’s hand and took off running through the halls of the most famous museum in the world. Damian didn’t know how to react as Marinette pulled him through wing after wing, her hand holding his in a vice grip, until they stopped in the Egyptian hall. He was surprised to see that she wasn’t panting, even though she had to be running at full speed in order to stay ahead of him.
Instead she just skidded to a stop and began to say in very broken German, “Ok…the first…question…is about…”
Damian cleared his throat, and said in French “You want to win this, right?” Marinette cocked her head but nodded. “Then I think it will be best if we stick to our fluent languages. We can help each other after we finish demolishing your insane classmates.”
Marinette grinned and then said in English, “Very well, but what about your classmates. Won’t they be a problem?”
Damian glanced at his work sheet and raised an eyebrow. “I doubt they will be much help. After all I’m not even sure what this first question means. Is it some sort of riddle?”
Marinette laughed and pulled him deeper into the wing. “Sabrina and your class representative, no you call it president, made this to encourage us to ask questions about each other,” she explained, “‘The scroll that awoke the Pharaoh, and revealed the secret of the Bug,’ is a reference to the akuma Pharaoh. He was a researcher here at the Louver whose theory on resurrection magic was dismissed, so he was akumatized in order to prove it worked. He tried to sacrifice Alya to the god Ra.”
Damian squashed a quip about how that would not have been the worst thing, instead settling on the more pressing question, “And the secret of the Bug?”
Marinette stopped in front of an old papyrus scroll, her smile fond and almost nostalgic as she looked at it. She pointed at the image of a woman with a yoyo in a spotted robe fighting the Pharaoh. “It was during this fight that it was revealed that Ladybug was over five thousand years old.”
Damian nodded as he looked at the scroll with consideration. “I thought the SpotsOn blog said that the title of Ladybug was a mantle passed down.”
“It is,” Marinette said as she scribbled on her work sheet. “But it was this scroll that set the question in motion. Since then scholars have been scouring the artifacts looking for people who could have a Miraculous Holder.”
“So why is it on our work sheet?” Damian asked.
And Marinette once more smiled as if at a fond memory. “I was with Alya when she found this. I got turned into one of the hundred mummies meant to aid in the sacrifice. Believe it or not we were actually good friends back then.”
Damian opened his mouth to say something, but Marinette clapped her hands and spun towards him with a smile. “Alright, the first one was for Paris, the second one should be for Gotham. Alix and Kathryn, have a good head start, but if we run, and take a few short cuts I know, then we should be able to catch up and beat them!”
Damian stifled a grin with a smirk. Her competitive spirit was infectious, and it pulled at his own instincts to push them to victory. And he was so tempted to give into it. He was the Son of the Bat after all, there was no way they could lose. But Grayson was always warning him that he overdid it, so he fought the urge to string trip wire everywhere and looked down at his sheet. His smirk turning devilish. “Are there any bat artifacts in the Chinese Wing?”
Marinette nodded briskly, “Tang Dynasty, this way!” And with that she had grabbed his hand and was once again pulling him through the Louvre at a devastating pace. And as the game went on, Damian stopped denying the genuine and bright smile that was slowly growing on his lips. But even as he gave into his more competitive instincts, he noticed a few interesting details about the Parisians.
For example, the Museum had obviously prepared for them, because they had roped off designated running lanes so the students could go wild without breaking anything or disrupting the other guests. And as they zoomed past, while the tourists stared in shock, the employees and locals laughed and cheered them on. It was strange considering that in Gotham they would have had security called on them ages ago.
Another thing was that all the Parisians were strangely athletic. Even the ones who should have been out of breath at the first sprint, vaulted and laughed as if it was nothing. At the pace he and Marinette were keeping, he expected that she would have to slow down after the first three questions. Instead, she only seemed to gain speed as she pulled him after her in a rush of adrenaline. And she never slowed down. Even when her classmate, the tall Chinese one, barreled toward them with his partner on his back, Marinette never slowed. She just pulled Damian down so that they slid down the slick floor, as the boy vaulted over them with ease.
Leaping to her feet, Marinette continued to pull Damian along even as her peer shouted, “I’m going to get you Mari!”
“In you dreams Kim!” she shouted. She beamed with pure joy, and Damian felt his own adrenaline muddling his senses, because he found himself mirroring her.
“What was that?” He demanded when they reached the Enlightenment Room.
“Hm?” Marinette said even as she searched the artifacts, “Oh, have you ever played the floor is lava?”
Damian grimaced against the memory. Grayson had thought it was a good idea to yell that phrase in the middle of Titan’s Tower, resulting in Jon scooping him up and hovering over the floor. Everyone had laughed as Damian thrashed like a kitten in the bath. It was one of his more embarrassing memories. “Once or twice,” he said through gritted teeth.
“Have you ever played it with real lava?”
Damian cocked his head at the question then nodded his head in understanding, “Lava Boy, he was a level 10 right?”
“You read the list,” Marinette said with a smug smile.
“Tt,” Damian said has he scanned for their opponents. “Of course, I did, I’m not an imbecile.  But what does this have to do with the fact that your entire class seems to be experts in parkour?”
“Not the entire class,” Marinette mused as she jotted down the answer. “Just those who know to pay attention in gym. Parkour became a curriculum requirement after Lava Boy. Every Parisian school teaches it as apart of our Physical Education. Or as we like to call it, ‘Running from Akumas 101.’”
Damian nodded his understanding. It was smart. It made him wonder why Gotham schools didn’t teach self-defense. But then again, maybe they did. He never really paid attention in class. But he had no time to ponder, because Marinette was grabbing his hand again and pulling him to the next artifact.
They ran into Alix and Kathryn twice, and saw that they were catching up, as the pair debated if they should be going towards Modern Art, or Ancient Greece. Which was when Damian noticed something else about Marinette, she was smart. When she had competed with him in languages, he had known that she had intelligence. But now she barely had too look at the clues to know the item they were talking about. And they really were some of the strangest clues, for example, “This Queen’s spear is lauded as Luck’s greatest hand.”
“That could be anything!” Damian exclaimed.
“Queen Hippolyta’s spear was donated by Wonder Woman back in 1983, as a gift to her adopted city,” Marinette stated and then dashed off.
“Wait how did you know that?” Damian cried as he chased her.
“Hippolyta was the first named Ladybug, although technically she was the second holder. The first was the Oracle of Khepri, although her name was lost to time. We saw her scroll like ten minutes ago.”
Damian just shook his head and followed her without question. And that was another strange thing that he noticed. He didn’t mind following this girl around. Under normal circumstances, he would have demanded the lead. But Marinette just pulled him along as if her leadership was the most natural thing in the world. And as of yet, Damian could not begrudge her for it. And so it was in less time than he thought possible, they were racing back to the teachers with Alix and Kathryn hot on their heels and gaining. Then Marinette pulled out a bag of marbles and scattered them on the floor.
“Hey!” Alix yelled as the two girls were forced to slow down, “That’s cheating!”
“No rule against it!” Marinette shouted back as Damian laughed.
Mlle. Mendeleiev was pinching her nose as the pair skidded to a stop in front of her and handed her their completed work sheets. “I hope,” she said in her stern voice, “That the two of you got to talk at least once during that…escapade?”
“Yes Mlle. Mendeleiev,” Marinette said with her signature bright smile growing even as Damian sunk back into his signature scowl.
“Oh, and what did you learn about each other,” Bustier said with her signature plastered smile and too sweet voice.
“That Damian knows a lot about bats but not a lot about bugs.”
Damian couldn’t help the amused snort, even as the teachers rolled their eyes and took their sheets. But it was one of the Gotham teachers, Miss. Faustus who said, “You finished three hours early. Why don’t you two go back through the museum slower this time? Or perhaps spend time at the museum’s café?”
The two nodded their assent and then waited for Alix and Kathryn to turn in their sheet. “Well,” Marinette said, beaming so brightly, Damian was sure he was going to go blind. “We won!”
“You cheated!” Alix cried in mock annoyance as she skated up to them.
“Tt,” Damian said, “You were the ones with a head start, not to mention you were on skates. If anything, you were the ones that cheated, and yet we still were victorious. I do not know if that proves the depths of your ineptitude or the height of our excellence, but either way, you cannot argue with the results.”
Kathryn face palmed, as Alix stared at him in shock. Suddenly Damian was very aware that offending the wrong person in this city could result in a villain chasing him down. But he refused to back down as he tilted his chin to the girl, daring her to question him. Instead, Alix just turned to Marinette who seemed completely unfazed by his attitude.
At her friend’s questioning look, Marinette smiled gently. “Imagine if Kagami and Chloe were one person, and male. That’s him,” she said jutting her thumb at Damian. He furrowed his brow at the comparison, but faced Alix undaunted all the same.
She however just said “Oh,” as if that made perfect sense and then studied him more critically. Then her face split into the widest, most mischievous grin, Damian had ever seen (and he lived with Jason). A little nervous he took a step back even as Alix leaned forward and said, “We kill Lila!”
“Alix, no!” Marinette cried.
“Alix, yes!” Alix cried grabbing Damian’s shoulders before he could even begin to process what was happening as she said in a hissing voice, “Come! We have murder to plan!”
“No murder!” Marinette cried, even as Damian threw her hands off of him.
“First,” he said coldly, “Never touch me again. Second, I assume you have a strategy?”
Alix cackled and led him to the café even as Marinette screamed in frustration.
---------------------------------------
“So,” Kathryn said once they were all seated at the Museum’s outdoor café, “Who is this Lila and why are we trying to kill her?”
Damian remained silent as he watched the Parisians. They had only ordered drinks, because apparently the best bakery in Paris was catering their “Getting to Know You Party” later. So he sipped his as he watched Marinette tense, and Alix huff in frustration. It seemed, that now her adrenaline from the game was spent, the roller blading menace was ready to be serious. But it was Marinette who began the story.
“Lila,” she said simply, “Is a compulsive liar in our class. The only way to ensure that she didn’t akumatize anyone from Gotham was to pair her with the worst French speaker in your class, because she doesn’t know a lick of English no matter what she might claim.”
“When she first came here,” Alix said anger dripping from her every word, “She would tell all of these crazy stories about the places she’s been, and the celebrities she’s met. Of course, none of us actually believed her. We actually personally know a lot of the celebrities she likes to name drop so we always knew she was lying. We thought it was just some sort of game she liked to play, so we entertained her. It wasn’t doing any harm.”
“I never liked the game,” Marinette said as she stirred her coffee. “So I asked her to stop, and she threatened me. It was the only time she’s ever been completely honest.”
Alix took a deep calming breath, an action which Damian was quickly learning to associate with deep negative emotions from the Parisians. “That’s when her lies became a little less obvious,” she said, “She started sneaking subtler lies in with her obvious ones, slowly turning the class against Marinette. Started framing her for stealing, cheating, and bullying. Things like that.”
“She almost got me expelled,” Marinette said into her cup. And Damian couldn’t stop the shock from spreading across his face.
“Are you saying that your teachers believed her?” Damian demanded. He had only known this girl for an hour and a half, but already he felt that her being anything other than a model student was just preposterous.
But Marinette didn’t seem to register his outrage as she just shrugged and said, “The principle is more worried about funding and press than justice,” she said, “And I don’t know if you’ve noticed this, but Mlle. Bustier is a bit naive. Mlle. Mendeleiev is great, and she doesn’t let Lila get away with anything. But Mlle. Bustier…”
“That woman needs her license revoked,” Alix said in a huff, “And she probably would have by now if it wasn’t for Hawkmoth.”
“So?” Kathryn said leaning forward, “What happened?”
“Adrien,” Marinette said with a sigh of exhaustion, “Another classmate. Apparently, he talked to her, made a deal with her to back off. He told me about it as if it was this grand gesture on his part. But basically, it boils down to, he lets her do whatever she wants as long as she doesn’t directly target me.” Marinette rolled her eyes, “His heart's in the right place, but his arrows don’t always hit their marks if you know what I mean.” The Gothamites nodded and then gestured for the girls to continue.
“So anyway,” Alix said, “Later, Lila comes forward and admits that she lied. Claims she has a mental disorder that forces her to lie. Only, that night Marinette goes home and does a crap-ton of research on mental illnesses and lying and guess what?”
“There’s no such thing,” Damian said with a sneer.
Marinette just shook her head, “Compulsive lying is a symptom of many different illnesses, mainly OCD and psychopathy. But neither force the individual to lie. The person is always conscious of what they are doing, and can chose differently given that they are actively working towards their mental health.”
“And when Marinette presented her research,” Alix said, “The class basically split in two. The enablers who think the best way to help Lila is to humor her. And the intelligent people, who are just sick and tired of her crap.”
“Me, Chloe, Sabrina, Alix, and Juleka are the most outspoken members of the Intelligent,” Marinette explained. “Alya, Rose, and Mylene are the most outspoken of the Enablers. Everyone else falls on a sliding scale in between. But of course, none of this would even be a problem it is wasn’t for Hawkmoth.”
“Yeah,” Alix said sipping her coffee, “Hawkmoth has everybody thrown out of whack. I mean how do you in good conscious call someone out for being an idiot, when they’re enough of an idiot to let that akumatize them.”
“Next thing you know,” Marinette said, “You're running through the city with a horribly dressed flying fox demon on your tail.”
Both girls groaned and sipped their drinks, as Damian exchanged a look with Kathryn. Finally, Damian asked the question that had been plaguing him since the moment he had heard the name Hawkmoth, “What about the Justice League? Why hasn’t anyone called them in?”
“Screw the League,” a harsh voice called out, and the party turned to see Chloe and Sabrina with Alice and Will following behind.
“Chloe,” Marinette said instantly brighter, “You’re done early. I thought you would be dragging your feet in there.”
“Chloe helped me make the scavenger hunt so she can’t participate,” Sabrina said sliding into the chair beside Marinette. “So, we decided to do a walking tour with our partners instead.”
Everyone then introduced themselves, with Damian being introduced to Chloe last. They stared at each other with narrowed eyes before huffing simultaneously and sipping their drinks. The rest of the group giggled at that before Alice said, “What do you mean, ‘screw the League?’ I know some of them are blowhards, but they do have some powerful magic users. They can help.”
Chloe sniffed derisively, but the rest of the Parisians became somber. They looked to Chloe almost as if asking for her permission before she nodded. Then Marinette cleared her throat and said,
“It was three years ago, at the beginning of this…mess. At first all of the akumas were level 1-4s. Powerful and scary but not dangerous. No casualties, and they always had limited goals. It was very rare for them to effect more than ten people. Then…then we got our first level eight, Dark Cupid.”
“I saw him in my research,” Damian said stiffly, “I couldn’t understand why he was put so high, all of the other level eights had a death count in the high thousands, but his wasn’t even in the high hundreds.”
Sabrina nodded emphatically, her face contorted with pain, “Yes. The akumas are categorized by the damage they do. Which means that the higher akumas are rated by their death count. 5 is 1-1,000. 6 is 1,000-10,000. 7 is 10,000-1 million. 8 is 1 million-10 million. 9 is 10 million to 1 billion. and 10 is anything high than a billion.”
“But there are other kinds of damage that rank just as high as death,” Marinette said as she reached over to grip Chloe’s hand which was starting to shake. “When those akumas happen on a wide scale, they are usually ranked higher.”
“And Dark Cupid was one of those?” Kathryn asked.
“I read about him too,” Alice said leaning forward. “There weren’t any fight videos of him on the blog, but it said that he made people feel the opposite of their true emotions. What does that even mean?”
The girls took a deep breath and looked to Chloe again. She just nodded as she stared numbly into her coffee. It was Alix who spoke, “Dark Cupid was a boy whose Valentine humiliated him. So he made people feel the opposite of their true emotions. Love turned to hate. Hate turned to love.”
“I don’t see the problem,” Damian said, his brow furrowed in confusion.
“Oh!” Will cried, horror etched over his face. “Oh, that…that’s awful!”
“What?” Kathryn demanded.
Marinette sighed and looked them in the eyes. There was something hard and cold in her gaze, and it seeped into her voice as she said, “Imagine the person you love the most. The person you trust the most, parent, sibling, partner, spouse, being struck with a black arrow and then turning against you. They are consumed with a burning obsessive hatred for you and everything else they love. What do you think would happen?”
Damian paled at the thought. He could imagine it. He didn’t want to, but he could see it happening. His family sitting down to dinner, suddenly struck from behind…and then turning on him. It was a horrible image and he wanted to forget he ever saw it, but Marinette was not done.
“Now, imagine the person you hate. You’re worst enemy, and the same thing happens to them. Except now, with love. Or perhaps more accurately…lust. You’re enemy filled with an obsessive drive to ‘love’ you, just as your loved ones are filled with an obsessive drive to hate you. What do you think happens then?”
Damian was suddenly very glad that he had not eaten anything, because he was going to throw up. The images that Marinette was painting for them. They were horrible. They were gruesome, and disgusting on so many levels. And…and they had lived through that. He looked up and saw it. All four of these girls had faced that. Spouses turning on their partners. Parents turning on their children. Friends turning on their friends. All on a day when they were supposed to be celebrating their love and trust. And then to add their enemies into the mix…
“Only 136 dead,” Sabrina said solemnly, “But over three million reports of assault and battery, and over ten thousand reported rapes, and sexual assaults. And those were just the people who came forward.”
“We called the Justice League,” Chloe said as a single tear fell down her quivering jaw. “We broke their website begging for help, once the Miraculous Cure passed through. But they never answered.”
“Three more akumas were created because of that,” Marinette said squeezing Chloe’s hand as Sabrina wrapped her arms around her. “Eventually Ladybug gave a press release saying she got in contact with an International member, but she didn’t say whom. Here,” Marinette pulled up a video on YouTube and showed it to them. “You can watch that later. It basically says that miraculous matters are miraculous matters, and the Justice League will not be coming unless it’s a level 11 akuma.”
“Level 11?” Kathryn squeaked.
“Yeah,” Alix said with an amused huff, “Otherwise known as the ‘How in God’s Name are You Still Alive!’ Protocol.”
“If either Ladybug, or Chat Noir ever lose their Miraculous to Hawkmoth. Then the other is to retreat and go into hiding, while every citizen still alive in Paris spams the Justice Leagues number until someone shows up,” Marinette said with a small smile. “It hasn’t happened yet, but we’ll be prepared if it does.”
“Were you?” Alice looked at the shaking Chloe, her voice hesitant and soft. “I’m sorry but you told me that you used to have a lot of enemies. So…were you…um…”
Chloe sniffed and straightened, she was as rigid as a bored, but her chin was up and her jaw was set. Her eyes had not lost their fire as she scoffed and said, “Kwami no, no one touched me during Dark Cupid. I was the bitch who caused the whole thing.”
The Gothamites blinked. “What?” Damian demanded.
“You heard me,” Chloe said firmly squeezing Marinette’s hand. “Dark Cupid. The most emotionally scaring akuma aside from Sand Boy. I caused him. I was the dumb bitch who humiliated the boy and made Valentines day banned in Paris! It was my fault.”
“Chloe—” Sabrina began, but the heiress silenced her by leaning forward and growling,
“I caused more akumas, and suffering in this city, then Joker has probably done in a year. Everyday I wake up knowing that I am probably the most despicable being on the planet. But you know what? Everyday I wake up and decide to change that. It will never be enough. I will never undo the damage I did to Paris. But damn it, I’m trying! And I’m not alone.
“This is Paris. If you haven’t been an akuma, you’ve caused one, and no one is immune. Not even angels who are too good for this world like, Sabrina and Marinette heaven help them! So everyday we wake up knowing that we are villains! But every day we wake up and we swear we are going to do better. We make amends and we try. We’re all monsters, but we all have one enemy, and that’s the idiot who thinks he can put chains on monsters and not get bit!”
Chloe was seething now. Her teeth bared. Her eye wide. But she was still in control, and she stared them all down with the deadly force of a lioness. It quelled any arguments, pinning the Gothamites to there seats. As she roughly wiped the tears from her eyes, she declared,
“So yeah, screw the Justice League. As far as I’m concerned, they can all go and suck it! This is Paris, and we clean up our own messes. Besides even if they did show up, there’s nothing they can do. Ladybug is right, this is a Miraculous problem to be solved by Miraculous Holders.”
“Besides,” Sabrina said in a far gentler tone, “Do any of you really want to see and akumatized Superman? Or Batman?”
Everyone shivered at the thought, even Damian. He then drew in on himself as he thought about everything they had said. Lila. Hawkmoth. Dark Cupid. Chloe. The Justice League. Not all of his questions were answered, not by a long shot. But then he remembered the scavenger hunt. The pure joy radiating off of the Paris Class as they ran through the Museum. The genuine laughter of the employees at seeing their antics. The bright smiles of the civilians as they walked with their heads held high down the streets. They had been through hell, like Gotham never had. But where Gothamites scurried and scowled they…smiled.
Even now as he looked up to study the four girls before them, they were smiling. Bright, genuine, pure smiles. They laughed as they pulled the Gothamites out of their horror. They cheered as more of their friends joined them from within the museum. It was strange. It was confounding, confusing, and impossible for Damian to comprehend. It was…miraculous.
And so Damian whispered to himself in his heart, "I swear on mantle as Robin, and on my title as the Son of the Bat, and the Demon's Heir, I will do everything in my power to defeat Hawkmoth."

I want to ask you about those characters you have liked less, and you have commented on the blog, if you could change some stuff on their writing and on events that involve them to make them more likeable what would they be? I think yours are Lucie, Jesse, Gabriel and Cecily right? Like for example "make Jesse be resurrected in the beginning of chain of iron and develop more Grace and his relationship" , or "make Lucie hold less secrets from Cordelia".
Sure, I hope I'm understanding what you want correctly.
PSA: When I gush about how perfect I think TLH is I don't mean Ghostwriter. I never mean Ghostwriter. Their story is terribly executed. However, TLH is still perfect because I give 0 fucks about Ghostwriter, so their poor development and terrible relationship doesn't impact my reading experience in the slightest <3
Lucie and Jesse
Lucie would basically just need to get her head out of the sand. I find her annoying primarily because all the other TLH characters act 25 and she acts like a spoiled 12 year old.
She starts the series with her head completely in the clouds, dreaming of silly fairy tales, and ends it in exactly the same place. Zero growth. And why would there be any? Everything that happens in her TLH plotline, what with getting a ramifications-free ghost boyfriend, reinforces that life is a fairy tale that she can twiddle her thumbs and dance through.
I think that this is what's disappointing about Lucie. She's fine at the beginning of ChoG because that's where her arc begins, but the problem is that she ends it as the same silly girl she started it while most other characters around her grow a lot.
I also think that Lucie would benefit from, like, just generally being less selfish. There was no reason for her to endanger Cordelia by not telling her about the Creepy Ghosts at their prospective parabatai ceremony. So, yeah.
As for Jesse, dude, I don't even know where to start. Get this man a personality, please, or at least a semblance of one. I genuinely believe that perhaps Cassie purposely made him a flavorless cardboard cutout so that teenagers reading could project their ghost-fairytale fantasy man onto him.
The main thing for Jesse, though, is that he needed to be less of a shithole to Grace. He was just so fucking godawful to her in Chain of Thorns that everything else about him (which isn't much to start with) pales in comparison. I hope she never talks to him again.
An aside --
I have a whole Ghostwriter plot idea that I think would have made Lucie's story really layered, but Jesse would actually die in it (thus forcing Lucie to show actual growth). Basically, everything would be the same until the end of ChoI, when Lucie would fail to bring Jesse back to life and realize then that her power was gone. She then would no longer be able to see his ghost. No more Jesse. Lucie would need to confront her happy-go-lucky-lalala-life-is-but-a-dream attitude and would therefore need to actually grow tf up. Lucie and Grace console each other and become close friends. They also both lost their love interests (I'm changing nothing else about TLH in this world, only Blackdale stuff), and both girls' happy ending lies in that friendship.
I loathe character death and I almost always hate tragedy, so you know shit's bad when I'm saying this. But Jesse's not an actual human; he's just a plot device! So maybe we should use that plot device in the best possible way if we're not going to make him a layered character :)
Gabriel and Cecily
I don't think about these two nearly as much as Ghostwriter, who I contemplate sometimes because I'm a TLH girlie.
I also don't find Gabriel or Cecily anywhere near as annoying as Lucie or Jesse. I don't care for them, but I also don't really hate them or even dislike them.
In Cecily's case, there's not really anything I'd change or even would want to change. I liked her a lot when I was 18 and the annoyance has built up steadily over time. Now I'm 27 and just view her as an annoying teenager. There's nothing wrong with her, but she reads young (I staunchly consider almost every TID character to read 20ish and every TLH character to read mid-20s. Cecily and Lucie are exceptions). I also don't want her gone, she contributes to the story and has her Moments.
Gabriel just is imo kind of off-putting to everyone besides Cecily and occasionally Gideon, and I just personally am not a big fan of him. But unlike Lucie or Jesse, he's a complex character with an interesting plotline and a tangible personality. He grows. He just didn't resonate with me. I will, however, say that there are a few moments where I want to give him a hug, because damn that kid got hit over the head with a ton of trauma baseball bats in a row.
Basically, in the end, Lucie and Jesse are characters I think are poorly-written and badly developed. Gabriel and Cecily are fine characters with good enough development, they just don't resonate with me through no fault of their own and that's okay.

In a country where mages have all the power and healers supposedly only exist to support them, Clematis—a talented healer—is despised for her past attempts to defy the mageocracy. In her early thirties, she’s already on year seven of a life sentence for treason. But when the most powerful mage in the nation suddenly loses all her magic, the government wants unconventional Clematis to help get it back. The mage is a tall, distant woman called Wist, and Clematis knows her all too well. They used to be classmates. Best friends. Perhaps more. Wist is also the person who reported Clematis for leaking state secrets. She’s the reason Clematis spent the last seven years in prison. Clematis wants revenge for her betrayal, but she wants freedom even more. She’s got thirty days to recover Wist’s magic: miss the deadline, and she’ll be shunted back to prison for the rest of her life. Yet attempting to resurrect Wist’s lost magic will force her to face the real reason why Wist betrayed her—and to face her unresolved, unspoken feelings for the mage who stabbed her in the back and walked away.
"I never forgot the sound of you calling for me. Not for a second."
Hiyodori's The Lowest Healer and the Highest Mage is a sci-fi/fantasy hybrid that combines a compelling protagonist and sole POV character with a surprising plot that keeps you on your toes as it slowly unveils the background of the characters and their history. Clematis and Wist navigate the consequences of an old betrayal that put them at odds with each other, while trying to solve a problem that might prove to be fatal for their world.
Clematis is a delight, caustic and angry and incredibly competent. Her old friend Wist is remote and mysterious and she has secrets which will change everything Clematis thinks she knows. Their relationship, in the present and the snippets of the past, is a compelling one, and so is the way they learn to trust each other again. The supporting cast does its job, with two very fleshed-out and interesting characters in the form of a friend Clematis made more recently, and a Healer that Wist trusts to treat her.
The snippets of world-building paint a vivid picture, albeit a fragmented one, that I hope to see explored more in the other books of the series. The contrast and politics of the usage and abuse of magic, with Healers as glorified batteries for Mages that, at least in the nation where the characters live, have no system in place to check their treatment of Healers, makes for an interesting conflict.
The Lowest Healer and the Highest Mage is a captivating novella.
✨ 4 stars

Dear fans of Unikitty and subscribers of my blog. The author of the blog is in touch with you and I have big news for you, since it depends on the plot in my AU, and I will also tell you about a couple of works for the near future.
1) I've been dragging my feet with this statement for a long time, but I decided to express it right now – I'm getting rid of the character of Cornelia in my AU.
More than a year has passed since I created her, and earlier I didn't regret that I created her.
Initially, she was conceived as a child of Unikitty and one canon character (that is, yes, I literally "aged" Unikitty for this idea) so that she also had a child from the company of 7 main characters. And it was my mistake: the fact is that no one had ever thought of complaining or writing to me directly before that it was better to change everything and "return the old age" to the princess, which at first was not easy because of Cornie. But later I still noticed that I completely stopped developing the Unikitty × the canon character relationship, and therefore I finally got rid of this peering, but I will clean everything and rewrite chapter 1 of "Santa Frown" by the end of this fall, if not later.
It would seem that the problem was solved, but it was not there: since Cornie was previously the daughter of Unikirty, I had to do something so that I would not be accused of anything, and I decided to turn Cornelia into the third (adopted) sibling of Unikitty and Puppycorn, and it was written well in the end. But over time, realization came to me.
The realization that I seem to be "deliberately ignoring" Unikitty, passing everything to Cornelia, as if I am thereby "killing" Unikitty and just not touching her.
And because of this realization, I made two decisions for myself, one of which I'll choose and completely change everything – either I A) literally kill Unikitty and Cornelia will be "her face", or B) I get rid of Cornelia for the good of my AU. The answer didn't take long to wait for myself and I chose plan B. That's right, I decided to "erase" Cornelia from AU so that she would not overshadow Unikitty and take an active part in various trials and funny stories.
I consider the creation of Princess Cornelia in AU to be my BIGGEST mistake that I did and I'm terribly ashamed that you saw everything I did with her and I want to "clear" my conscience by deleting/editing ALL posts related to Cornie/her relationship with Uni n' Pup.
Tumblr media
But, if it weren't for this deliberate innovation, I might never have created my own mascot for my creativity. In other words, she is dead in MJ AU, but I resurrect her as part of her becoming my mascot for my creativity. After all, the design doesn't disappear, does it?
it WAS IMPORTANT for me and for my brainchild, and I do not regret that I made such a difficult choice.
2) On works for the near future – COMICS! Yes, I really want to draw comics and I have a spoiler for you with the participation of Jacob's company!
Tumblr media
Also REDESIGNS and stories of Old concepts of both existing characters and wasps for AU. And also the Unikingdom citizens will be affected and only some will have children. I won't spoil it too much, as I have a lot more to tell you.
I hope that after this post my conscience is clear and I will come up with something with all my posts here before I delete them. Thank you for your attention and see you again!

hey, read your answer about you being an anime only! i promise i'm not trying to pick a fight, but if you're open to discussing this a little: considering it took endo years to get to this point, it's unlikely we'll be able to get a full S3 next year since there's probably not enough manga chapters. will you be reading the manga then? ps: the manga isn't exactly. spoilers. it's the original story, no?
I don't think I'll be reading it, no. I mean, I can't be sure, my resolve may break at some point and I may indulge, but as I've explained why I'm doing it that way, I plan on continuing watching the anime first and then reading the respective manga chapters.
If I may be a little more personal here, this past year I've been stuck on a job that, while not unpleasant or demanding or exhausting in any way, it was far from fulfilling. This job's contract ends at the end of July and if I'm lucky, I may actually get a much more fulfilling job this September and be more proactive in it in general, so I'll have more time filled with stuff I like. Last fall it was Spy x Family that filled a lot of that hole, and I've been stuck all these months without that nor a job I enjoy. So I'm thinking, if I get that job I want, I'll have less unfulfilled time and thus less dependence on the show (not that I'll love the story or characters any less), so it may be easier for me to wait for ten months again for new content.
As for your p.s., by anime-only standards, yes it is a spoiler. If you go to the cinema to watch a film that was inspired by a book, you wouldn't tell someone what happens at the end if you knew they haven't read the book. That's spoilers. The book is still the original story, the film is still an adaptation, but by revealing a part of the story that a film watcher doesn't know, you're spoiling it for them - and no film watcher is obligated to read the whole book and know the whole content just to enjoy the film. And while Spy x Family is quite popular, it's not common knowledge popular. Saying "Jesus dies on the cross and then gets resurrected" isn't a spoiler for the bible or any film inspired by it because it's a millennia-old story that even many non-Christians know.
When it comes to the manga vs anime debate on what's spoilers and what's not, it can get a little tricky cause you have snobs and purists on both sides, which is why I prefer to stay away from the fandom instead of engaging and then complaining about getting spoiled, because I will get spoiled and it will be my fault. My one request is that, if someone reblogs any posts of mine, to not add any details about stuff that happens in manga chapters that haven't been animated. That's all. But no-one is obligated to read or engage with my stuff, a lot don't even see it, I'm not demanding anyone tag their spoilers on their own posts or complaining to those that don't, I recognize my own responsibility in curating my experience and avoiding spoilers and take the necessary measures to do so. So I don't see where's the problem with me, in my personal blog, referring to stuff that hasn't happened in the anime yet as "manga spoilers".
I understand you wanted a discussion, not a fight, but honestly it's a tricky issue, and I'd really really rather not get into the bad side of a purist, whether they're a manga or an anime purist. And such a discussion can be derailed very easily, so while you're welcome to discuss it with me in a civil manner, I will stop it if I feel it can get out of hand.
I'm not mad or upset at you or anything. I'm just a little wary because I know how toxic fandoms can get, especially when they hold some very passionate beliefs about what's "right" and what's "wrong" in the way other people consume fictional media.

i was scrolling through your blog and saw you read redpen's "unhinged" on ao3, which i read before and thought was super good. ive been looking for more jnoir fics. do you have any recommendations?
Yessir unfortunately i hate most fanfiction i read about him and i have read most of the jack/slick stories that are available on the archive (i scoured through both tags extensively) but even though few else could be as excellent as "unhinged" there are many with more good qualities than others. i will try to categorise the ones i dont hate for you with my views. This ranges from proper bants to 'On a good day this wouldnt make me feel that suicidal if this were the only piece of literature available to read against all the dogshit on the archive while waiting 7 hours at the ER'
(A Joker's Not Even A Real Playing Card Anyway) <- this is a masterpiece. I dont even know anything about batman or anything but it doesnt matter if you do or not because the comedic value in this story is insane and it was clearly written by a genius. It deals with the midnight crew carrying their cartoon physics/lifestyles to the batman world where everyone takes them and their actions seriously. This is possibly even up there with unhinged or even higher . It is absolute scenes, bloody brill, and puar radgee. If you have to pick one thing to read read this one and ignore everything else
The Ruby Tie-tack -> this is good this is about Droog dying and haunting snowman. They are right about the way droog would die. it would be without the dignity he wants
The Old Ball and Chain -> this is kinda cute i guess it passes the time. it is about problem sleuth getting stuck with slick
lucky_spike -> This person is good at what she does in general. if you enjoy “stabdads” plus problem sleuth there is that for you. And i think in most of the stories they are humanised but honestly i just imagine that theyre carapacians just do wahtever you want. I tihnk she was part of a 2011 era humanised-stabdads-centric cabal of artists/writers so if youre into these stories you can easily find her affliates. They have more...interesting spins on the crew
Hello, My Lovely this is honestly ok and it is well written. It has spades slick locked in a trunk but its not about him. it is about pickle inspector and boxcars. Actually i was drunk when i read it
This really isn't funny. <- i like this this is about bec noir resurrecting as a dog who slick picks up in an alley and makes his pet. Bloody Brill.
there may be more that i don't remember and also i read a lot of fanfictions a long time ago and my judgment could have been impaired by the stupidity of youth. i went through the archive a little tonight and tried to find any good ones at all but i taste blood in my mouth now. No more

Thoughts on the OOO movie, starting with things I liked (obviously spoilers):
.
.
.
I actually really enjoyed the Goda plot. "Eiji gets possessed by a Greed" is a fun premise, it was great getting to watch Shu's amazing acting (being just off enough to be uncomfortable before the reveal), and I liked what characterization we got of Goda even if it wasn't much. He felt like a kid playing Kamen Rider and I would have loved to see more of him.
Goda is voiced by goddamn Vector from YGO Zexal. With lefty Ankh being voiced by Astral, it's too funny.
Similarly, the midpoint around the Goda reveal and people dealing with it was imo quite good.
When Ankh said "Goda" for the first time and did that little spin, made the whole movie worth it.
Ankh's character development was shown in lots of ways, most obviously him actually crying(!) but also things like stopping "Eiji" from breaking Uva's Core.
Ankh!Eiji and Tajador Eternity were hot.
Even if the scenarios weren't great, it was fun to see all the characters reacting to them. Just seeing everyone again was great ❤️
Things I didn't like:
They seriously just went full palpatine on the King/Greed plot huh.
Why the hell would the Greed be willing to work with the old King. And they just killed off the Greed before they did anything interesting.
Total disregard for character development--mainly erasing Eiji achieving a will to live, but also making Goto straight (I half kid)
Eiji's death didn't even feel good narratively? Like I already knew I hated the choice to kill him off, but they didn't even try to sell me on it, it was just unsatisfying.
NO ONE ADDRESSED THAT ANKH IS STILL POSSESSING SHINGO. THIS IS A PROBLEM. This was literally what the entire conflict between Ankh and the others was about at the end of OOO, and they just, shoved him back in there? And didn't address that Ankh would still have only Greed senses, be unable to feel satisfaction in his Greed body, etc? No problem was solved here?
All in all, it was like watching the actors act out a semi-decent fanfic, and since I'm used to OOO movies being bad, this one doesn't feel much worse. I just hope the actors got what they wanted out of it and are satisfied with this ending for their roles.

okay but you having a you that goes on continuous adventures throughout the Favorite Fictional Worlds is AWESOME. That sounds like a blast. I am never in any of my daydreams. I'm not about to inflict situations upon myself lol. I DO however badly voice act a line I'm making my characters say until the emotion is right. Much to the horror of everyone else who lives with me, I'm sure. I write a TON of dialogue and the thought that the readers don't understand the exact voice I want the character to say things in... and that I barely comprehend that voice myself... brutal. Don't make me voice act my own characters I swear to god. It's just everyone talking in different flavors of my voice in there.
Yeah, it's unbelievable how much mileage I've also gotten about Seven Deadly Sins as compared to the other fandoms I've been in. Sometimes I just don't want to pluck the characters out of the canon and put them in my head, because I feel like that would disturb the beautiful creation, so I don't daydream about those fandoms at all. I basically have like three main universes, the longest of which I've had and have been working on regularly since the fourth grade. VERY interesting story to go along with that one, but it's the kind that you CANNOT tell unprompted, so I'm waiting for an appropriate time to entertain the Internet Strangers with my strange childhood book experience.
Anyway! Happy to be following you now, I'll have a blast looking around at your blog :D
Tumblr media
You are so freaking nice, thank you!
I inflict SO many situations on myself, partly because a lot of the time I find it easier to roleplay myself-but-slightly-to-the-left than to roleplay one of my ocs, but also because I legitimately enjoy my big crazy universe and also it’s just fun to be like “Yeah, I’m best friends with Meliodas and a member of Fairy Tail and a companion of the Doctor and also grown up Gamzee’s my moirail now cause I saved him from going brainwashed-and-crazy and also I fixed the MCU! It doesn’t suck anymore! The plot holes are gone!” It’s just fix-it fics and self-indulgent “girl fell into Middle-earth” style fics all day long. Unfortunately for alternate me I very much enjoy whump and angst and hurt/comfort so alternate me goes through. So much. Luckily alternate me is immortal due to shenanigans (the same way as Meliodas, essentially, except the resurrection time is way faster and also there’s no losing emotions), so they can survive everything. Unluckily this means I can kill them as many times as I want. Angst! 😃
(Meliodas may have had to essentially shake me by the shoulders and go “I know you want to help me and I appreciate it but I would like to not have to watch you die for me repeatedly because I see you as a friend and it hurts to watch you die regardless of whether you come back or not” whoops)
I also voice act all my characters (I actually find it significantly easier to keep track of my story if I speak it out loud) and boy howdy is it awkward when a family member comes down the stairs or I’m out on a late-night walk and suddenly realize Oh! There’s a person there! Hearing everything I say! And I sound insane!
And saaaaaaame with the problem of everyone speaking in different flavors of my voice!!! There’s a few characters that I have a pretty good grasp of their voice, and some that have very distinct ways of talking (Gamzee my beloved. Also literally everyone from Middle-earth) that make it easier to do them. But yeah, I FELT that.
I don’t usually write stuff down, I just let it exist in my head and hope I remember it next time I feel like playing in the sandbox. My au that you found is only like. The second thing I’ve actually tried to write down as a coherent narrative since my first attempts at fanfic when I was 15 (the other thing being my Tolkien OC Mavwin’s story. It is. Not even a full first draft. Oh boy.). I have a bunch of notes for a rewrite of an old fixit fic for a musical I like, and a bunch of notes on some Harry Potter OCs and significantly less notes on a Fairy Tail OC. Also a largely-unused sideblog for my multiverse-travelling daydream. (Don’t look yet, it needs some rewriting and a whole lot of updating.)
I am very curious about this world you can’t speak of unprompted, so consider this your prompt lol. I promise it can’t be any worse than what I’ve read/come up with/listened to my best friend explain about their OCs (I swear she’s worse than I am about giving her characters trauma 😂)

I did some digging
I want to stress I will be talking about Pagan practices and nothing more. According to multiple sources Christmas was never a thing until it was decided on December 25th as Jesus being born; Christianity never celebrated the birth but only his death and resurrection. Pagan holidays were actually celebrated during the Winter Solstice which is the longest dark day of the year opposite to the Summer Solstice. The ones I will talk about are Yule and Saturnalia which Christmas is heavily based on. According to History (1) "In Scandinavia, the Norse celebrated Yule from December 21, the winter solstice, through January. In recognition of the return of the sun, fathers and sons would bring home large logs, which they would set on fire." this means they celebrate light, the birth of light. According to History about Saturnalia, "In Rome, where winters were not as harsh as those in the far north, Saturnalia—a holiday in honor of Saturn, the god of agriculture—was celebrated." this continues  with December 25th being (1)"In addition, members of the upper classes often celebrated the birthday of Mithra, the god of the unconquerable sun, on December 25. It was believed that Mithra, an infant god, was born of a rock. For some Romans, Mithra’s birthday was the most sacred day of the year." These two holidays are Pagan holidays...so why is this so important and why do Pagans get so upset about Christmas and why do people react to Christmas? According to History (1) "It is commonly believed that the church chose this date in an effort to adopt and absorb the traditions of the pagan Saturnalia festival." This is something that is common in history when it comes to Paganism and Christianity. This continues with The Real Truth (2) "The most common justification that one will hear regarding Christmas is that people have replaced old pagan customs and intents by asserting that they are now ‘focusing on Christ.’ I have heard many say that they are ‘honoring Christ’ in their Christmas-keeping. The problem is that God does not say this is acceptable to Him! Actually, He plainly commands against it! Keeping Christmas dishonors Christ! He considers everything about it to be an abomination! We will soon see why." And again in CrossWalk (3) "Two pagan festivals honoring the sun were also celebrated on that day and it is possible that December 25 was chosen to counteract the influence of paganism. To this day some people feel uncomfortable with Christmas because they think it is somehow tainted by the pagan festivals held on that day." So Pagans getting upset with people saying this can be very justified and this can continue with other Christian holidays with Christianity being used to erase the past. During the Winter Solstice, many Pagans celebrate the longest dark day, but also around this time you have Christmas which celebrates the birth of Christ which wasn't important until erasing pagan practices. So can you separate the holidays from what you know? What are your thoughts and feelings on this? Are there any questions? What other holidays are based on paganism?

My #1 post of 2022
Been thinking about the like, tonal dissonance between this season and the previous few, plus Witch Queen, and with Lightfall coming up and all. And like, the pirates being kinda like heehee yar har har and less cutthroat vicious Actual Threat.
But I think a lot of it, at least in the main game, is getting filtered through our Guardian's view. Like, we see a problem and we kill gods about it. We just dealt with the Leviathan getting in everyone's heads, and the Lucent Hive coming up. Among the old crews, I doubt our Guardian sees any threat except for Eramis. Even the Vanguard is like ehhh we'll get some Hidden looking for Eramis but we have bigger fish to fry. Plus, I have a feeling (or maybe I'm biased) that we're gonna see more of a "girl when you are ready to break up with that piece of shit we're here but this relationship is making you horrible as fuck," with her than "oh shit oh no Eramis big evil bad!" Almost more like how we handled Savathun in Witch Queen.
Like, reading the lore and such not in our POV, the old crews and their fellows are incredibly vicious. They literally tear each other apart for the slightest infractions and revel in it, and they don't have the safety net of resurrection that the Guardians do. Spider and Misraaks, who seem to be most aware of/wary of the crews' strength, are both mortal. Misraaks gives his "these people are more dangerous than you think" line to his similarly mortal daughter rather than us. He knows we eat bullets for breakfast and grenades for lunch.
In summary of the rambling, I think these guys would mean business for like, anyone but the Guardian, but they're small peanuts to us so we're just gonna goof off and treat it as a Fun Pirate Adventure.

Christian Social Network Has Been Resurrected! I am pleased to announce that being as I have acquired a lot of new online friends since shutting down the Christian Social Network -- a.k.a. CSNet -- last year, I have decided to bring CSNet back online again. However, please be advised that all old accounts have been deleted, and we are starting completely from scratch. As such, even if you were an old member, you need to go through the sign-up process and create a new account. To join CSNet, simply go to the blue URL that you see in the bottom portion of this image. If I post the URL here in text form, some social networks will make this post mysteriously disappear. Sign-up is really quite easy, but you DO need to provide a REAL email address during the sign-up process so that the software I use can verify that you are a real person. For best results, please use a Gmail address, and follow the instructions in the email that is sent to you immediately, so that your account can be verified and unlocked for you. If you encounter a problem signing up, you will see my email address on the sign-up screen. Shoot me an email if necessary, clearly explaining your problem. Include screen shots if you can. Once your account has been created, from that point forward, you do NOT need to click on the sign-up button again. Instead, click on the green login button that is located in the top corner of your web browser window. Also, please add both a profile pic and cover image as soon as possible after logging in to your account. There is a short grace period, but people who fail to do this will eventually have their account deleted. I hope that you will choose to be one of the first to build back up our Christian Social Network membership. On a final note, please be advised that being as I can no longer afford for iOS and Android apps, and the constant upgrade fees, CSNet is geared primarily towards desktop and laptop computer users. Tablets may work okay as well. I am really not sure. But as far as cell phones are concerned, being as I no longer offer the apps, you will have to use whatever web browser you like on your phone, and proceed to the URL you see in this graphic. If you turn your phone sideways to landscape mode, you will get better results, BUT will still have problems navigating and seeing some things properly. You can give it a try if you like, but I just want to let you know that it won't be nearly as good of an experience as with a desktop or laptop computer. https://www.billkochman.com/Blog/index.php/christian-social-network-has-been-resurrected/?feed_id=172851&Christian%20Social%20Network%20Has%20Been%20Resurrected%21

Worthy Brief - April 26, 2024
We are the "bikoreem" of creation!
Leviticus 23:10-12 "Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: 'When you come into the land which I give to you, and reap its harvest, then you shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest to the priest. He shall wave the sheaf before the Lord, to be accepted on your behalf; on the day after the Sabbath the priest shall wave it. And you shall offer on that day, when you wave the sheaf, a male lamb of the first year, without blemish, as a burnt offering to the Lord.
1 Corinthians 15:20-23 But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ's at His coming.
This season of the Resurrection also occurs during a significant Old Testament feast day, the feast of “Firstfruits” (Hebrew, “bikoreem”). When Yeshua (Jesus) rose from the dead he was the firstfruit of the resurrection. On that day the keys of Hell and Death were obtained by our Lord. The apostle Paul connected the resurrection with the feast of Firstfruits in his letter to the congregation at Corinith. "But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep."
Remember in the Garden of Gethsemane that all the disciples had fled in terror because of their connection with Yeshua. Yet not much later they experienced an astounding transformation which empowered them to preach the gospel fearlessly and face all kinds of suffering and martyrdom. What inspired this transformation? The resurrection… the living, breathing Lord who appeared to them in a glorious resurrected body. No longer were they concerned about this life, having experienced the reality that death's power had been absolutely overcome and there was nothing remaining in this world to threaten or shake their complete confidence in eternal life.
The letter of James identifies believers in Jesus as "a kind of firstfruits of all He created"; [James 1:18]. Through our faith In the Lord's resurrection, we have received His Holy Spirit and gained His resurrection life and power. It is a power over the fear of death, an overcoming power which enables us to endure and triumph over every kind of threat, problem, affliction, every trial or test involving suffering, pain, even the greatest anguish this life can bring. It's the same power that filled the Lord's disciples and transformed them from terrified men into fearless witnesses.
We are no longer bound by the circumstances of our lives – but, as "firstfruits" who share in the resurrection life of our Lord, are empowered to endure, be transformed by, and ultimately overcome everything we face. Paul exults in this wondrous triumph, “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." And then he offers this exhortation, "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”
We are the “bikoreem”, the "firstfruits" of the resurrection and we are no longer bound by the troubles and problems of this world. We can "count them all joy" as "steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord" we know that our labor is not in vain!
Shabbat Shalom and have a great weekend!
Your family in the Lord with much agape love,

Resurrecting "Make Comics Not Excuses"
So like.... 10...ish years ago I used to do a blog called "Make Comics Not Excuses." In which I took the reader submitted reasons as to why they thought they could not make a comics and I show them it was just an excuse they were making. I'd then go through how to overcome the problem so they could make comics.
In an age where indie comics were really taking off, showing people that they can be apart of this media I love so much. But it just became too time consuming to write. I'm not great at writing and to make something meaningful to read took me several drafts and edits, and I just couldn't take the time anymore so I slowly stopped doing it.
But now we're in a new age! Comixology, Webtoons, GlobalComix, Tapas, Drivethru comics, as well as other print on demand services has made comics more accessible than ever before, and there are even less excuses! In that spirit I want to bring back my old series, and hype people up to make some comics.
But no one cares about blogs anymore. It's time to update the series for a new age too. I'm going to start doing "Make Comics Not Excuses" as videos on Tiktok and Instagram, and thats where you come in: You need to give me your excuses! Why do you think you can't make a comic book. Or why do you think you can't pursue the creative discipline you like? Do you not "know how to draw"? Do you not have the "right" equipment? do you not have the "best" software? Give me your excuses And I'll start showing you how you can make comics instead of excuses on tiktok and instagram!
Oh I guess I should link to those two huh?

I look forward to hearing from all of you!

[Peter Parker x Rogers!reader (adopted, of course), Steve Rogers x sister!reader]

My Blood Turns Into Alcohol | fluff, angst
[bartender!Bucky Barnes x fem!reader]

Until you, that is—the town newbie who stumbles inside the lanky old bar and won’t stop showing up in your pretty dresses and with that shy smile. Bucky is infuriated. Maybe that’s why he won’t let you pay for even one of your drinks, or why his coworkers won’t stop bothering him about you.
Braces Are Breaking | angst, fluff
[Peter Parker x sister!reader, Bucky Barnes x reader]
Peter Parker does not have much family left, and the small part he has he protects fiercely. When he suspects someone is dating his sister, he’s determined to find out who it is. What he doesn’t expect is to do so under such dire circumstances.

Resurrection Masterlist ON HIATUS!
[brother!mafia!Bucky Barnes x adopted!sister!reader, mafia!Thor Odinson x reader, mafia!Loki Odinson x reader, eventual Steve Rogers x reader]
Bucky Barnes was only nineteen when the lives of his parents and little sister were taken right in front of him by the ruthless members of the Odinson mob. His father’s mistakes have turned Bucky into a vengeful and cold shell of the charming boy he once was, now deeply rooted in the criminal lifestyle of the Stark mafia. Sudden attacks ignite the conflict between the two forces of the city, refueling the rivalry that has been rather tame for years. Nine years since Bucky’s life fell apart, he finds it shattering once more when what was supposed to be long dead returns to the living.

People have already talked to hell and back about discord servers on your blog and I want to set my petty gripes free as well
Even when they're good, discord servers are SO overwhelming to keep track of. Even if the server is about ONE ship in a relatively small-to-mid-sized fandom. I'm not a super active participant in servers, but I enjoy seeing fan activity happen, and I enjoy being able to add my two cents every now and then (plus, like others I'm worried about social media crashing and leaving me with no fandom connections, so i want to be in the 'little secret club' for posterity). But if I log off for a few days because of irl errands, there's so much backed up content in different channels it feels like a chore to sift through. If I don't have the time, I leave channels unread so I can maybe catch up a little later (and possibly reply to somebody's headcanon), but then more chatting happens and channels get more clogged. So after a while I feel discouraged to even try and read everything, let alone drag up old posts to reply myself when there's already a totally different conversation going on.
I enjoy the servers I'm in, but there's something so much less enticing about discord messages as opposed to people's headcanons on tumblr, or forum posts. Maybe it's just nostalgia, but I miss the atmosphere of being able to grab an old post and add whatever rambly replies your heart desires onto it without interrupting the flow of conversation or derailing somebody else's post
TL;DR wahhh discord servers are soooo exhausting.
Very much my own problem to deal with, but I needed the vent without offending any mutuals/discord friend who follow my blogs lol....
--
Depends on the forum, really: plenty of them used to pitch a fit about resurrecting old conversations and/or nobody would respond after a short time. But yeah, Discord tends to be much worse for all that.
