disclaimer: all headcanons inspired by my own experiences as a former figure skater! honestly this started as just a "genshin tall guys as figure skaters" hc but then I added xiao and it just snowballed from there. there will be headcanons for the girls if there's interest!!

aether:

dain's student. late starter but seems to have a knack for skating. moving up pretty fast. just started nilou's ballet classes. actually pretty good at spins & quite flexible too.

albedo:

former competitive figure skater but mostly coaches now. does both Learn to Skate & private coaching. v patient & understanding. great with encouraging the more shy & hesitant kids.

alhaitham:

skating judge. only around for competitions & testing. hella intimidating. leaves v terse comments on tests. somehow, they're not as blunt as he looks. probably went to Worlds in his time.

ayato & ayaka:

extremely good pair skaters. everyone is in awe & lowkey fear of them whenever they're on the ice bc they're so focused & extremely fast. ayaka is super sweet off ice tho & besties with nilou. ayato has all the beginner skaters hanging over the boards wishing he was their partner instead.

baizhu:

medic. often gone on sick leave but always around for competitions. always has a cardigan on bc the building is hella cold, even in the lobby outside the rink. v kind but hopes no one will get injured so that there would be no need for him.

bennett:

in Learn to Skate. honestly probably shouldn't be on the ice but is trying his best. kaeya especially looks out for him. always encouraging the little kids & keeps a positive attitude.

chongyun:

just graduated to the freestyle ice!! unfortunately everyone there is extremely fast and scary. hugs the wall for dear life every time one (or two, in the case of our pair skaters) speeds by. actually started skating bc of his aunt shenhe, who used to figure skate. also takes nilou's classes.

cyno:

one of the guys working at the rink stores. usually the hockey store but occasionally the figure skating one as well. sharpens skates. will yell his bad dad jokes at people from across the lobby just to embarrass them (or maybe himself). also the guy jokingly twirling around & copying the ballet class outside their open door while they're practicing. actually surprisingly good at it.

dain:

serious af coach from Scandinavia or Russia or somewhere in Eastern Europe (no one knows). coached multiple Olympians in the past but has no current ones. scary af. only the really intense parents (the ones living vicariously through their kid) attempt to recruit as their child's coach. best of luck to them, since he only invites his students.

diluc:

arrives later & leaves earlier than kaeya (they drive separately). doesn't skate as often as his brother but has impeccable technique nevertheless. v consistent jumps. puts his waterbottle on whichever side of the boards that kaeya's isn't on. kaeya will move his own waterbottle over just to mess with him. iconic move is a beautiful spread eagle.

heizou:

that one guy from another rink who randomly shows up whenever his rink is closed for maintenance. still knows everyone despite not being a regular. super fun programs & does a lot of showcases.

itto:

hockey player. duh. did you think this guy figure skates. the little kids love him tho. probably the guy they call in for birthday parties.

“Tarnished, are we?” 

A tilt of the head, brows coming together in confusion. Then, a slow shake, as if unsure if it was correct. It made their long black hair flutter in the soft wind that picked up. 

“Hm. What are you then?” Kalé asked, and put his bow down. Better to be ready, just in case. The person didn’t look like one of the Golden Order. 

“… Revenant,” they said, after a long moment. Their voice was horribly raspy behind the cloth mask that covered the bottom half of their face. Not unlike Kalé’s own mask. 

His brows rose. “You’ve no extra limbs, nor do you stink of death and rot. You look like most other Tarnished that come through here.” 

They stepped closer and motioned at the other side of his fire, and he nodded. They sat with a sigh, their long half cape pooling behind them, and gently laid their sword down next to them. 

“Tarnished. What is that?” They asked, meeting his eyes over the fire. It was a bit hard to tell, but they looked hazel in color. 

“Those who were banished from the Lands Between, yet called back by grace,” Kalé said, and kept his confusion close to his heart. Who else, what else could this person be? 

“Hm. The yellow light, from the…” Here they flicked their fingers in the direction of the Lost Grace, glowing softly in the middle of the church. They traced their finger in an arc from the grace to the north, one that Kalé could not trace. 

“I see nothing.” He said, and shook his head. “If you can see it guiding you, that is a good sign. Or so they say.” 

They merely tilted their head and considered it. He could practically see the thoughts shifting around in their skull before they simply shrugged and looked at him again. “If it fits.”

I have over 135 hrs in ER and I'm only just barely getting to Lyndell. My brain has demanded that I put something out here for my time and efforts. This is not a crossover that should work. I am brute forcing this and having a wonderful time.

Initially I tried to start the game with one of my other OCs, but I just wasn't vibing with it and the class I started out as wasn't really working. So I started again and took Aiden from Code Vein (and my fic Raven Feathers) and plopped him into the Lands Between with the vague sort of idea that Some Tragedy has befallen Vein and he's looking for a place of refuge for the revenants, and that he's been traveling so long that he's been knocked back down to starting level. And then the game handed me spirit ashes and ideas started forming based on a revenant's final death in CV.

Anyways here's this crossover, enjoy. I might add more to it as I go, idk.

For the older meta/discussions, @convenientalias and her ‘my country the new age’ tag (starts at page 20) is a good place to start. I remember this Seon-ho meta and also love reading everyone's responses to this mctna list of questions she created. There’s @dangermousie and their ‘my country’ tag (starts at page 11), @hedvig-ulrika has a lot of good meta posts as well, right now I can only think of this one (marketplace scene) and this one (Seonhwi scene towards the end), and this one for Seon-ho & Sung-rok. For Seonrok stuff in general, platonic or otherwise, the ‘seonrok’ tag by @pashminabitch is a treasure trove, @sadviper has great thoughts about them too (and I enjoyed reading their top 5 mctna scenes), @valarinde has meta about this very heart-wrenching scene, and @eohachu has written compelling meta about them too; their ‘seonrok’ and ‘nn meta’ tags are def worth checking out. @strandedchesspiece has an amazing series of mctna meta posts. I really love @the2headedcalf ’s Seonhwi meta (1, 2). @ciriwrites has written this excellent meta that led to an interesting discussion and other meta, @staidwaters has this headcanon about how Seonhwi became best friends, and @rain-hat has a lot of intelligent and eloquent meta in her ‘my country the new age’ tag and got a lot of mctna asks a while ago. You can also read @crayonflop 's very entertaining commentary in their ‘my country’ tag (starts at page 28), then there’s @husberttee with an interesting discussion about Sung-rok and his scar. This funny text post about Sung-rok + Seonhwi by @petekaos always makes me smile. This one is good too - all the Seon-ho feels! @bienmoreau has meta posts like this one about Seon-ho and his brother and @tlanwen has good meta and web weavings too. And @elderflowergin 's description of Bang-won's voice is perfect. There are others like @crithir, @eremin0109, @asena-queenslayer, @monstersqueen, @mctna, @doorhine with a scene comparison here and dozens of others who I remember writing mctna meta, in the tags or otherwise! This anon ask sent to fatallist (who has sadly deactivated) about the water/river symbolism is interesting too. 

For more recent stuff, we have @howlingmusketeers ’s Bang-won meta, @nubreed73 ’s thought-provoking commentary here (you can find more in their ‘meta’ or ‘my country the new age’ tag), @wangkuans here (there's more in their ‘my country the new age’ tag too), @navramanan has this edit/tags-meta and meta, and @itsza recently watched mctna and has made some posts too.

I’m sure I missed a lot of the early discussions since I only discovered the fandom a year after mctna was airing... Please forgive me, friends, if I missed anyone /o\

A small caveat: I’m very clearly biased towards Seon-ho who's my fave, and there are some Hwi-resenting meta posts/tags you may encounter on my or other people’s blogs. I started out being quite critical of him, but after many good discussions with some of my friends I’ve come to understand his side of things more. As such, I'm trying to avoid being too harsh on him and am determined to love the boys more equally now!

There are a few critical takes on Seon-ho or Bang-won or Hui-jae too, but I think it’s a sign of what amazing, complex characters they are that they elicit such strong emotions in us and we feel compelled to take sides!

That one supremely delusional Jon stan that is constantly putting her braindead metas in the Aegon VI tag is so fucking annoying. It's 2023, no TWOW publication date in sight, and these insecure bitches are writing word vomit text posts about how bad Aegon is and how he's doomed while Jon Snowflake is the best Prince, with the Best Mentors Ever, and will be the Best King of the 7K (not happening and will never happen, cope!).

These people read Jon getting stabbed to death by his brothers on the NW because he was such a garbage leader and ruler who broke every oath and responsibility you can imagine, and bitches on here are still writing metas about how he will make a good king and ruler lmao. Bare in mind, the brothers on the watch are people who most of which are literal criminals, etc. whose option is 'join the night's watch or die' and they still took the risk and decided to kill Jon en mass because he was such trash at leading lmao. And good for them.

Honestly, shit like this makes me happy that ADOS and probably TWOW at this point will never be published. No TWOW means his book ending, which is being dead in the snow for being one of the worst Lord Commanders in NW's history is his endgame and the only other ending they get is the show where Jon becomes the most hated kinslayer/queenslayer war criminal in Westeros and gets his ass exiled to live in obscurity beyond the wall.

It's what they deserve!

Okay... question. Hypothetically.. in a case of a nameless protagonist for CV.. what place holder(?) name would be appropriate

Because I don't think writing with just "Queenslayer" is probable, like there's Protagonist.. but saying "I am Protagonist" is a bit... odd.

Or maybe I should just (insert protag name) and call it a day 🫠

So far, what I know is that the protagonist is called 4 names

Queenslayer, Protagonist, Hero, and "The revenant"

So sometimes the writers would avoid dialogue where the protagonist or other characters mentions their name, and for the other characters they would probably just called protagonist based on their pronouns, the writer will decide is the protagonist the canon one (usually they use the male protagonist so it would be he/him) or just use "You" or "I/me" as pronouns (this one is good for self-insert)

secret former lover: back when anna was in aew, she had a quiet relationship with ??? and nobody ever knew about it. anna still to this day regrets the way they ended things and is more than shocked to realize they've also signed with invasion, resulting in some hard conversations and maybe even one night reunion somewhere down the road. (doesn't have to be an aew muse, we can work around it)

Spellslinger Review

Spellslinger by Sebastien de Castel is a 369 page Young Adult Fantasy novel. The first in the Spellslinger series and is followed by Shadowblack (#2), Charmcaster (#3), Soulbinder (#4), Queenslayer (#5), and Crownbreaker (#6) with a load of smaller stories between them.

There are three things that earn you a man’s name among the Jan’Tep. The first is to demonstrate the strength to defend your family. The second is to prove you can perform the high magic that defines our people. The third is simply to reach the age of sixteen. I was a few weeks shy of my birthday when I learned that I wouldn’t be doing any of those things.

Magic is a con game. Kellen is moments away from facing his first mage's duel and the start of four trials that will make him a spellcaster. There's just one problem: his magic is gone. As his sixteenth birthday approaches, Kellen falls back on his cunning in a bid to avoid total disgrace. But when a daring stranger arrives in town, she challenges Kellen to take a different path. Ferius Parfax is one of the mysterious Argosi - a traveller who lives by her wits and the three decks of cards she carries. She's difficult and unpredictable, but she may be Kellen's only hope...

I rate this book 3.5/5 stars.

I thought this book was very entertaining, but I kept wishing for something more to happen. Even when writing this, at least a month after reading it, I still feel like it was missing something. Perhaps it’s the fact that I keep thinking it’s and adult book, instead of YA and it just didn’t go to the places I wanted it to.

To me the characters are a bit forgettable, but I did really like Ferius as a character.

This book is the prime example of the advice ‘end every chapter on a cliffhanger to keep readers to continue reading’. To me an amazing book should make me want to continue without a cliffhanger to push me forward, but of course the occasional reveal is a good thing.

Will I continue this massive series? Yes, when the others books in this series cross my path of a good price.

Finally uploading my favorite pictures from Code Vein thus far! These are my four main characters I use. (Both in-game and for a story I’m writing with my boyfriend)

At the top we have Lilliann, the actual Queenslayer of the story. (She has three more braids in the back, this photo just hides them well.)

Next is Ren Komatsu, with the Blood Code ‘’Reaper’’. He’s a sweet boy, but very protective of his little sister. He is paired with Yakumo.

Yuko Komatsu, Ren’s little sister. Her Blood Code is called Doppelgänger. While physically, she become a Revenant at 13, she doesn’t see herself as that young anymore because of her time living as a Revenant. This has caused quite a bit of emotional turmoil for her, and has made it very difficult for her to confess her feelings to Louis.

Last, we have Damian Crowe, Blood Code ‘’Chronos’’. His history is... complicated. However, it has driven him to personally become a Hunter to turn Revenants bordering on frenzy to ash.

kaeya:

another of dain's students. practically lives at the rink. that one guy everyone has a crush on. one of the best singles skaters. menace on the ice in both senses of the term (v fast) (& teases everyone). stunning programs. teaches Learn to Skate classes on the side & is v good with the kids (klee's in his class). iconic move is his no-hands hydroblade & sassy high kick after landing his triple axel (no this is definitely not inspired by yuzuru hanyu haha what are you talking abt).

kaveh:

complains about the fading artistry from figure skating. v beautiful programs & extremely good at expressing emotion. the one who breaks down after his ending position in competition. unfortunately broke, so skates for a few weeks & then disappears for months on end. religiously takes nilou's ballet classes (does not help with the broke aspect but at least nilou loves him). iconic move is his stunning spiral.

kazuha:

from the same rink as heizou, but shows up even less frequently. still, his grace & flow is the envy of all. beidou's student (she commutes back & forth between the two rinks).

tart:

menace. clown. also practically lives at the rink. doesn't actually skate much during practice, but is somehow still v good. teases everyone. the reckless guy sprinting around the ice instead of skating. iconic moves are his high af Russian split jump & gravity-defying cantilever. occasionally helps out with Learn to Skate. god help the class who gets him & kaeya paired as teachers bc they are chaos incarnate.

thoma:

front desk guy. brings his dog to work. friendly af. everyone lowkey has a crush on him. will let regulars in for free when they run out of passes & forget money to pay for more. drives the zamboni.

tighnari:

the substitute medic when baizhu is on sick leave. kind but has little tolerance for stupid people. yells at the public skaters walking around on the unpadded areas & kids who kick their rental skates against the bleachers (damages the blades).

venti:

local musician. popular choice for program music; but everyone either hates or loves him since his songs are rather overplayed. shows up to all the competitions in horrible incognito (literally just a pair of sunglasses & the occasional fake mustache).

wanderer:

the kid who hates being there. grumpy af abt being forced to skate. is actually not bad tho, just really hard on himself. the person who keeps restarting his program music bc he messed up, even if it was small. secretly likes showing off. iconic move is his dramatic af spider lunge.

xiao:

zhongli's student. v v good & v fast. jumping machine, probably has quads. doesn't talk or smile much. rarely helps with the Learn to Skate program bc the kids are scared of him. iconic move is his biellmann spin since he's actually flexible enough for it.

xingqiu:

the supportive friend who comes to watch chongyun skate. always carries a book with him. chongyun is a little embarrassed but always glad to have xingqiu & the rest of the liyue squad cheering for him when he steps onto the ice for competition.

zhongli:

cool af older coach. probably won multiple Olympics & Worlds in his time but no one has any idea until they look him up online. everyone & their parent want him as a coach. fully booked tho so rather difficult to get lessons with him as a new student. rarely gets on the ice, mostly stands behind the boards & coaches from there. however, every time he does step onto the ice, everyone can immediately see the old Olympian in him.

It had been hours, and still Aiden hadn’t resurfaced from exploring the vestige he had found. Yakumo wasn’t one to really keep track, sure, but he knew that at most the longer memories only took about thirty minutes, tops. No one else had gone in with him, which was a bit unusual -- even for the ones at home, Aiden said that Io was usually with him, or witnessed them. Yakumo, Louis, and Mia all were here and conscious, keeping guard while their friend was occupied. 

Not for the first time he looked at the … altar, really, he wasn’t sure what else to call it, that had cradled the vestige. No other vestige was like that, usually they were sitting innocuously on the street, just waiting for someone to pick them up. This one was nestled between what looked like two white thorns, and had a halberd stuck into one of them, almost like a talisman. Yakumo had never seen any of the Queen’s Thorns himself, but the ones that held the vestige reminded him of the descriptions he’d heard. 

“Is it a full on code that you found?” He asked, not expecting an answer. “Maybe, but you didn’t pass out when you picked up that Hunter code in the city. So what is it? Maybe the person who built this place…” 

The sound of footsteps had him lurching to his feet, blade at the ready and reaching for his Gifts when he caught sight of Louis’ mop of dark brown hair. He relaxed a bit and shook his head, trying to get at least some of the tension to go away. 

“Sorry, didn’t mean to frighten you,” Louis said as he got closer, and his eyes flicked past Yakumo and onto Aiden’s still form. “He’s still not awake?” 

“No,” Yakumo sighed, and leaned his back against the railing. “He twitched about twenty minutes ago, but that’s about it.” 

“Damn. Well, I suppose all we can do is wait,” Louis sighed and moved to stand next to him, placing his hands on the railing and letting his weight rest on it. His gaze flicked over the rest of the structure. 

“... How are you holding up?” Yakumo asked after a moment. “This place is… well. Not really fond of the fact that the Lost can teleport .” 

Louis snorted softly, and his fingers fiddled with one of the spikes on the railing. “As well as can be expected, I suppose. Truth be told, I’ve actually felt better while we’re here, out exploring.” 

Yakumo paused and looked at him again, vaguely startled to see dark circles under his eyes. “Louis, you alright man? I know you get antsy when we’re not making progress, but…”

A   :   AFFECTION.  how does your muse show affection?   

She shows affection very subtly, a lot through touch.  She’ll tend to be a little more touchy with the person, either tugging on their sleeves or grazing her fingers on their hands.  It’s up to them on whether to allow her to hold their hand or not.  You’ll have to squint if you want to see her being affectionate and notice the little things she does.  

G   :   GIFT.   is your muse good at gift - giving or do they struggle to get it right?  

She’s pretty good at gift giving.  She pays attention to people’s likes and dislikes and can infer whether they might enjoy a certain item based on what she notices.  She tries to keep her gifts practical, meaning she wants the person to be able to use it or solve a problem they may be having.   

U   :   UNREQUITED.   has your muse had their heart broken? 

Not in a romantic sense.  She’s had bad experiences with other people that caused her loner nature.  People have thrown her under the bus, betrayed her, and in general, taken advantaged of which has left a foul taste in her opinion of people.

In Vein especially, she’s had to make some difficult decisions that has led to her keeping a wall around her heart to avoid feeling that sort of pain again.

I’m not even gonna waste my time criticising anymore. Everyone pretty much agrees that nobody got the ending they deserved and that’s the only validation I need, knowing that most people are on the same page on how the show was ruined. No other source of entertainment has made me this angry so I’m gonna stop ranting and just agree/disagree with you guys because it has come to a point that I can make essays on how a show I have loved so much for years became a buffoonery and it is really not good for my mental health. So while I will be reblogging posts I will keep things light or else I will remain miserable at this shitshow for the rest of my life.
