Meooooow meowmeow meow Encore Power Hour and Scrapyard Tutorial Level meowwww
I think Yaoi is oretty cool (also I just wanted to give TTK a little bit of context)
Also Jouse for some reason
More Encore & Scrapyard

The reason I had them be engaged was because of Twist The Knife having a Horribly Toxic Relationship in the song/story and im like ykw. Yeah. Might as well. Except the killing metaphors and stuff are kinda literal. The killing and sex can coexist if you put your mind to it!

Here's How it's Done - Five of the Best-Made Tutorial Levels
What’s the most boring part of any video game, the part most players tend to skip? That’s right, the tutorial level. They’re always full of boring text box pop-ups, spelling out all the different buttons and controls and slowing the game’s opening down to a crawl - it’s almost like the game is teaching the player how to read more than how to play! At least, that’s the case with most games. Sometimes, developers try spicing it up a little, adding a bit of excitement and interest to the first level. It can come in the form of an engaging narrative intro, cool action, interesting locations and scenery, less linear pacing, and so on. There are plenty of tricks to keep that first level interesting; you could consider these games as a tutorial on how to do good tutorials! I’ve collected a handful of games that really hit the ground running with interesting and enjoyable openings - have a look for yourself! Press [Keep reading] to continue.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 How many games teach you how to play by immediately throwing you into a gargantuan, multi-phase boss battle? Spider-Man 2 does, and it’s equal parts tutorial and showcase of how powerful the PS5 can really be. Swinging into action, the Spider-Men cross the river besides Manhattan into Brooklyn to battle the latest villain of the week: the swirling, skyscraper-sized walking desert known as Sandman. The massive boss fight puts the opening action of the previous games to shame, as well as cleverly working in the tutorial amongst the story of the fight. Seamlessly switching between playing as Peter Parker and Miles Morales, the game runs through the basics of combat and mobility - swing into the fight, battle sandy clones summoned by Sandman, dodge the sandy giants’ attacks, and so on. A particularly impressive moment is when Sandman grabs Miles and flings him across almost the entire horizontal length of the map, only for Miles to slingshot himself right back - all within five seconds, no loading or slow environment generation to be seen! Peter and Miles make use of plenty of new, untested gadgets throughout the fight, such as the new Web Wings to glide on the wind and Peter’s mechanical spider-limbs popping out of his suit, learning how to use them alongside the player in an epic cinematic battle between the two Spider-Men and the largest enemy seen in the series yet!

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves The Uncharted series is known for its’ engaging narratives, but Among Thieves is a particular standout for being a great early example of how cinematic games can really get by throwing the player straight into the action. After the player presses “Start”, Nathan Drake wakes up with a bullet hole in his gut, sitting sideways in a busted-up train car dangling over a sheer cliff. In a desperate climb to safety as the train falls to pieces around Nate, the player will quickly learn the basics of parkour and movement that you’ll be using for the entire game - or plummet to their death in the beautiful albeit deadly scenery. After a quick flashback that hints at how this adventure started out, it’s back to surviving in the frozen, flaming wreckage Nate has somehow ended up in. Finally, Nate uncovers a mysterious artefact in the wreckage, presumably the source of all this fuss for the entire adventure - and it’s time for another flashback, all the way to the beginning for the story to really get started. It’s an expert combination of cinematic storytelling and intrigue (just how did Nate get into this mess?) with intense action and control tutorials that flow naturally alongside the plot - all the way back in 2009!

Jedi: Fallen Order Leaping and climbing across a dangerous scrapyard full of old derelict Republic cruisers, while the Empire’s spy droids and TIE Fighters constantly drone overhead - just another day on the job for Cal Kestis. As the game opens with breathtaking vistas of a vast, grim, rainy planet littered with familiar giant ships, Cal hides his Jedi training as he picks his way across the treacherous worksite. All the jumping, climbing and parkour you’ll be doing is taught very early on - the Empire sure doesn’t seem to care about workplace safety, but Cal (and the player) easily clambers across the machinery like it was a giant playground. Of course, the inevitable workplace hazard occurs as the ship Cal and his buddy Prauf are standing on falls apart, sending them sliding to their likely doom until Cal reaches out his hand and you get the coolest tutorial prompt in any video game: [RB] Use the Force. His Jedi powers revealed, the Empire quickly catches on and suddenly, Cal is fighting through a speeding train armed with a humming lightsaber and the power of the Force, effortlessly slicing through countless Stormtroopers in his path. After that taste of how strong Cal is against the cannon fodder, the player is pitted against a dreaded Inquisitor in a literally unwinnable fight before a mysterious new ship comes to your rescue - and the journey begins.

DOOM (2016) As a soft reboot of the longstanding DOOM franchise, DOOM (2016)’s opening instantly tells you exactly who the Doom Slayer is. Waking up buck-naked and chained to a bloody tomb in a laboratory, surrounded by shambling demons, what does Doomguy do? Snap the chains on his wrists, grab the nearest unfortunate demon by the face and smash it to pieces, leap to his feet, snatch up a stray pistol and aim it right at the next demon - and now the player is in control. Once you’ve cleared the lab, it’s time to grab your armour and get to work doing what Doomguy does best. Quickly, you’re shown just enough exposition to know who the important characters are and why things might be all demonic right now, but not so much that it slows down your path of annihilation. Doomguy even throws away a monitor trying to give lore, as if to say “I’m not here to listen to dialogue, I’m here to blast demons!” Through bloodstained halls and surrounded by hellish shrieking, the player sets off clearing out the first building of demons, given only the most absolutely necessary control tutorials. Finally, as the thumping main theme builds in your ears, Doomguy gives his trusty shotgun a pump as he steps onto the surface of Mars, ready to rip and tear.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild All these openings are fairly straightforward, but how about something a little less linear? In Breath of the Wild, the tutorial “level” is a wide-open sandbox by itself, allowing the player to explore the Great Plateau they find themselves waking up on at their own pace, in more or less whatever order they like. After you’ve left the cave you awaken in with your few belongings, the first thing you see is an old man walking away in the distance; the game’s way of telling the player exactly where to go and who to speak to, all without a single “go here” arrow. The tutorial’s open nature gives a sense of just how much freedom the player will have in the rest of the game - you can do whatever missions you like in whatever order you choose, or just wander around and enjoy the scenery at your leisure. Across the plateau, you’ll notice various shrines around you, each one granting a new power that you’ll use for the entire game, and none of them require any other shrines to be completed first. You’ll quickly learn the basics as you pick your way across the plateau - climbing trees and hills to gather resources, fighting off the handful of foes in your way, and so on with very little direct hand-holding from the game. It’s a great example of how easy it is to learn by messing around and doing things yourself, rather than reading constant button prompts and objective markers.
There’s a thousand different ways to teach a player how to play - and of course, some ways are much more intuitive and entertaining than others. Now that you’ve learned a few different kinds of good video game tutorials, you’ll probably never look at a games’ first level the same way again. Are there any other games you’ve played that did a great job showing you the ropes? Let me know! Feedback, reblogs and likes are much appreciated! Thanks for reading!

Week 2 post (11/01/21)
Media I have used this week:
Games- the first game I have been playing this week is rainbow six siege and the thing that stands out for me in this game is the physics and tactical gameplay. Most of the things you look at in this game can be broken like you can blow up walls and stuff.
For the tactical side you have to use drones to gather intel and gadgets in defense mode to protect the objective.
The only wierd thing about the physics in this game is how if you shoot somethings like a TV a few times it will begin to crumble into nothing .
Tv show- South park
The thing that keeps south park interesting is the humor . Because after all of the seasons they’ve used the same animation style and it still manages to be enjoyable to watch . The way the add in the jokes flows naturally and they can also be out of no where and that’s what keeps you watching.
Culteral sources:
1. For the stacker game instead of cakes I could use smashed up cars so its like you’re in a scrapyard and all of the different types of cars can be .
In games that are based in china like sleeping dogs , they use these run down cars and also small cars and vans but in the UK you see different types of cars so there could maybe be a few different levels using different cars
2. Pinball
In 1966, the first solid state electronic pinball machine called spirit of 76 was released and it was then followed by pinball which used a video screen in 1998
.
Pinball was originally made in 1871 by an inventor in Ohio and pinball originated from a century old game called Bagatelle which has a similar layout and concept and his idea was just pretty much improvements on Bagatelle and bagatelle was made in Italy .
Nowadays there’s different spinoff versions like sonic spinball which was on the megadrive .
3.Space Invader-
Space Invaders is a game that takes advantage of colours because without colours it wouldnt really be as fun to play . You can still get space invaders on the switch which shows that people still enjoy it and they also have different spin offs to surive.
Space invaders uses the principle that you are shooting aliens out of the sky so even in 1978 people were thinking about aliens.
4.Asteroids-
This is another game which is based on space and uses physics like gravity because of the way the asteroids move freely in space . The spacecraft also has floatiness to show that theres no gravity. The game was made in 1979 so could have been inspired by the 1969 moon landing.
5.Stacker -
This arcade machine was a more recent one from 2004 and it could be found all over the world in places like Spain and the UK. The company was founded in Australia called LAI games and I would have expected it to be created in Japan because thats usually were you see arcade machines like this.
Furthur audience discussion
1.The games that I have used for the culteral sources have got bright coloured lights. For example space invaders , each row of the different enemies is different colours .This is good to make the game look interesting .
2.Like in these culteral games I have looked at , there are no real main characters so what I was thinking is just to make the game without a character or try to make a crane animation but it might be too hard without photoshop.
3. I could take photos from google that been taken then they can be the backgrounds for different game levels to match the neon bars you have to stack .Kind of like cyberpunk cities and how they have neon.
Research being implemented-
The things that I am going to take forward from my research is that from some pinball games you have this neon glow effect to them and it makes them attractive so I was thinking instead of cakes I could use neon glowing bars as the thing to be stacked in my game.
The thing that I want to try and leave behind is the whole cake idea because the whole idea of having a game based around cakes just seems a bit boring and It wouldn’t really keep the attention of older players who are playing the game and the age range would end up being for very young toddlers which is not want I want really.
Unreal engine timer-
From YouTube I found a tutorial on how to add a timer and It showed me how to make a retry button pop up as soon as the timer finished so then I tested It and it worked so this could be used for the stacking level timer.
As soon as you click retry the level will reset.
This is the code for the timer set up.
It starts with an event tick and it uses 2 branches and 2 integers called seconds and minutes.
If the seconds don't equal 0 then it will start to take 1 away each time .
At the end it shows the mouse cursor and pauses the game when the widget pops up so you can click restart.
There are 2 bindings that are the same for minutes and seconds.
This is the code in the level blueprint .
Weekly Reflection-
I think the thing that has gone well in the past week is learning how to make the timer for the game because it should help me with the project. Also deciding not to use cakes in the game was good.
The thing that could have gone better is the cultural research because I didn’t think there was much related to the arcade game stacker but now that I think of it Tetris might have been related.
What I’m planning to do next week is design a title screen .

Big post
23/10-2017 Hey all So it’s been some weeks since my last post. Sorry about that! I’ve done a lot since then however. Some with the project at school, but also a lot with a work assignment I got from DICE. I’m going to try to tell you about my work at the project today, and hopefully I will tell you about DICE tomorrow.
The project I started to create the level to the project, where our player will run around and solve puzzles in this scrapyard. The idea from the beginning was to create more levels, which would be tutorial levels where the game would introduce game mechanics and different kind of puzzles, so the player could learn she can do in order to solve puzzles through the level. So in the beginning I created two different tutorial levels. The first level would teach the player to use the avatars magnet in order to move around objects in the world. In this level the player needed to fill a hole in the world with objects, so that the player could cross it and go through a gate to finish the level. After that, she would start the other tutorial level. The second tutorial level was the same as above, but instead of learning the player to move around objects with the magnet, the player would in this level learn the player to jump on objects so that she can progress in the world. To jump from one object to another higher object, and from there jump to an area she had to reach in order to move forward to the finish line. These two tutorial level mentioned above, I sketched out on paper first and then I took it to Photoshop and made the level there with a legend. The artists wanted me to create the level in Maya too, in 3D, and send it to them. So that I did! Later on, we decided to create one big level instead, with these puzzles included in that level. This level would also be a tutorial level, but a lot bigger with more puzzles of different kinds. So with that decided, me and Namie sat down and started to do that level in photoshop. This level started out with 4 different puzzles. The first two puzzles was the two mentioned above: jump and magnetism to move around objects. The third puzzle is a conveyor belt that spawn objects. The player need to drag down objects to the ground and place them against a wall, in order to be able to jump up on them and reach the higher ground she needs to go to. The last puzzle is a static turret, that is standing on the ground and shoots projectiles around itself in 180 degrees. There will also be a generator standing close to the turret, which the player needs to push down in a hole, or lake, in order to “kill” the turret. To do so, the player needs to use an object as a shield for the bullets, or else she won’t be able to reach the generator without getting killed. And after that… well, that was the final puzzle and the player would win when leaving the scrapyard through a gate or something similar. Just as the two small tutorial levels, I created this level on paper first, and then took it to Photoshop and finally created a 3D model of it in Maya. The level grew bigger and bigger however, and now we don’t have that much time left to implement all the things everyone planned for. We have more puzzles and another function in the game: triggers. So with the triggers we can put an object on a trigger plate, in order to change something in the world. For example: there is a door we want to open, but in order to open the door, we need to place an object on a specific plate on the ground. This plate maybe have an icon of a key or some other simple thing so the player understands what that trigger does. And by the look of it now, we’re not sure if we will have the triggers in the game. Some people thought it would be to hard to do, for some reason. Not the function of it, because we already have it. The programmers gave us the function for it pretty early, but it’s so many other things we need to priority right now. And we only have 2 weeks left and that means we don’t have the time to fix and add more puzzles. We just need to fix what we have and make that good. Hopefully I will have time to tell you about my DICE assignment tomorrow. Have a great one & take care!

Hints
Halo 4 (wait What)
In the first level of the campaign as soon as Chief wakes up look on the floor and you may find the Collecters Edition of Halo 4. Also under the stairs you can find a computer that tells the story of Halo all the way up to Halo 4. A little info for newbies to the series.
Shoot Who?
First never kill a grunt with a assault rifle. (Believe me, I once did it and it is wrong!). Shoot grunts with DMRs and pistols, but not machine guns. Don’t use power weapons either. That would be wrong. Shoot bigger enemies with those guns.
Golden Spartan
You need two players then go to forage then make a veical pres a in edit mode the make the other player get in it while you hold it then make the other player jump out then you got your golden spartan.
Machinima Weapons
To lower weapon, hold X, A, and B and the down button on the D-pad and HOLD all of them at same time and your weapon will disappear.
How To Go Through The Pole On Requiem With A Ghost
First, you have to get a ghost on requiem in the rally point “a star to steer by” then after you killed all the covenant, keep going where your supposed to go but with a ghost then just melee the boosters off the ghost (only 2 hits will do the trick) then boost through the pole or console.
Pilot A Pelican On “Relaimer”
This video includes a step by step tutorial to perform a trick that allows you to Fly a Pelican in the Halo 4 Campaign mission, “Reclaimer”. (This vehicle is not normally accessible outside of the mission “Shutdown”).
Some Halo 4 Preview Videos
Here’s the official trailer video from E3 2012:
And here’s a Halo 4 Gameplay video, also released at E3 in 2012. Looks good!
