Rewatched The Tears of Uther Pendragon: Part 1 and you know, Merlin could’ve tried a lot harder to talk to Morgana about poisoning her. She calls him out, tearful and hurt (acting but he doesn’t know that), and he just says “I didn’t want to.” That’s it, and then he lets her do her remorseful bullshit, and says it’s good to have her back.
Mother fucker, maybe say a little more than that? Maybe even say you’re sorry?? Tell her you figured out the spell, and how you tried everything else you could think of? Maybe actually show how much it upset you to do it? How much you didn’t want to?
Maybe, just maybe, she would’ve listened to you a little bit, and maybe, JUST MAYBE, she would’ve thought about her actions going forward a bit differently!

Merlin S3E2, “The Tears of Uther Pendragon: Part Two”
Merlin is in a cave somewhere. With Kilgharrah.
Is the mandrake root some sort of voodoo doll?
MORGANA AND MERLIN ARE EACH OTHER’S FOILS!!
I’m actually extremely surprised Kilgharrah let Merlin ride on his back.
Soft variation of the theme music. I like this melody.
So Morgana’s threatening Merlin now. Great. (And they’re locked in a staring contest.)
Cenred and Morgause are SO toxic. I am, once again, in love with her voice.
Yeah no, still not a big Gwenthur fan. Please just let them be best friends? Loyal to each other until the end? Not lovers?
Morgause feels more nuanced than Morgana in her performance. Which is weird. But Morgana is so wholly one-sided… I like that about her. But it makes her lose nuance.
The “Sire. It’s time.” And Merlin’s whole demeanour in that scene and on the ramparts… And the whole destiny thing… I love serious Merlin. I wish he’d appear more often when talking to Arthur. I LIVE for these conversations. I’ve definitely got a new favourite scene and it’s that one. Well, all those in that 5-minute span.
THE MUSIC
Uther’s fighting…
Morgana is scary.
She’s in the dungeons. Nothing bad will come of this, I’m sure,
OKAY WHAT THE FUCK ARE THOSE SKELETONS
HOW IS COLIN MORGAN SUCH A GOOD ACTOR
Leon you better not die. I like you too much.
So he’s still not telling her he has magic huh?
Merlin you better not have killed her
So Cenred has some morals.
Camelot burning…
Oh I’m going to be sick
Well, at least one thing hasn’t changed.

god i would’ve loved to see uther meet merlin’s family. he meets and knows merlin for years and knows how impertinent he is and the lack of respect he holds for royals and nobles. merlin is a thorn in his side but arthur is fond of him so he leaves him be. then he meets hunith who is so much better than merlin and doesn’t seem to be at all related to that bastard peasant until she tears him a new asshole without any regard for propriety. she is a country woman and uses language appropriate in the countryside, not the royal court. she is very clearly merlin’s mother in that moment made obvious by the set of her jaw and the steel in her eyes. then balinor gets carted in and is brought before him and he’s gleeful bc finally he can kill the last dragonlord. then hunith calls his name and he calls hers. dread simmers in his gut and then they kiss as he watches with trepidation. then hunith pulls back and tells him to meet his son and tugs merlin forward.
it all makes sense. the very blood running thru their veins is made to give uther headaches. balinor (fugitive, dragonlord), hunith (harbored a fugitive, lied to authorities, punched the king), and merlin (annoying, dragonlord) being a family unit just makes sense. when merlin’s magic gets revealed hes not even shocked. he just amends his list to read “merlin (annoying, dragonlord, sorcerer)”

BBC Merlin is truly such a Show. We'll cut from young adult Merlin and Arthur saying the most romantic shit to each other because it's not gay if it's destiny, to Morgana (Katie McGrath) pulling the cheesiest villain smile in case we ever forget women are evil, to silly spirit halloween-looking CGI monster of the week
Every episode we need to be reminded that genocidal tyrant Uther is human too, and every episode he needs to slaughter some more innocents.
But also Merlin and Arthur are so cute and they make each other smile!!!

love when there’s an episode where arthur’s actually nice to merlin, and then the writers are like, “well, can’t have too much of that,” and the next ep he’s back to being a bully.

Merlin rewatch -- S3E1: The Tears of Uther Pendragon 1
I feel that Arthur looked more mature and authoritative this season. Ready to be king not in more actual sense than just the fact that he's better than Uther. Was it the haircut or Bradley just buffed up more? Maybe it's also because he had to take over some Uther's duties this episode(Is it the first time we see him doing paper work?).
It's this scene where he demanded Gaius' answer regarding Uther's condition gave me the vibe. He had always been a good leader but usually it was on the battlefield or in time of crisis. In this season he seemed to carry that aura around more often. He was confident, perceptive and have good political sense. He immediately knew how the appearance of the crown may affect the kingdom's stability. He also looked like he carried a heavier burden on his shoulders than before.
His demeanour was harder too which might seem closer to Uther. The way he berated Gaius for discussing Arthur's regency with other counselors. I think it's more coming from worrying his father (it's tough the first time seeing your parents severely ill) though, less about usurping the power or what not. Accepting regent meaning believing Uther wouldn't get better, which he hadn't prepared to do. Arthur often expresses negative emotion with anger.
I love how bluntly Arthur admitted that he's not in a good place. It's not easy to see that. A small growth? Hope the show will let him remember. He had a beautiful crying face too~

I just remembered this scene, and how Arthur’s like “God help me” in response to this statement by Merlin; looking back on it it, it’s kind of silly that he says that, given the fact that Merlin has saved his life several times at this point that Arthur acknowledges.
He pulls him out of the way of the knife in the first episode which is what gets him the job in the first place
He warns him of Valiant’s shield when he definitely would’ve been bitten and died if he hadn’t known
He drinks the poison for him which Arthur DEFINITELY remembers given how many times he repeats the sentiment that Merlin saved his life in that episode alone
He tries to drink the poison again during Arthur’s last test to break the curse he caused by killing the unicorn
He goes out to fight the dragon with him, which he doesn’t realize saved his life, but he does recognize Merlin’s dedication/loyalty before the battle
Obviously this excludes all the times behind the scenes, but these examples alone prove that Merlin does in fact protect him, or probably in Arthur’s egotistical head, tries to.
Just a little something I noticed that’s all!

Merlin S3E1, “The Tears of Uther Pendragon: Part One”
We’re starting off with a slew of dead Camelot soldiers.
It’s been a year??
…what’s Merlin’s kill count?
MORGANA??!
So Morgana’s back in Camelot. I’m sure this will go very well. Considering she’s at war with Uther and Merlin poisoned her.
Colin’s haircut is unnerving. It didn’t change that much but also it’s so different
I don’t believe for a second that Morgana was captured, or that Morgause let go of her. There’s no way she’s not playing a double game here. I don’t trust her intentions.
Ah. Morgana has seen Merlin.
No way she’s forgiven him. Morgana? Forget a grudge? And Morgana? Be against magic? No way.
That was uncalled for, Arthur. (Also, short sleeves Merlin?)
Oh she definitely has something planned. (Katie McGrath also looks divine in purple.)
Why is Morgause the one doing the magic? (Also, who’s the older sister? I’m curious.)
Arthur is particularly unbearable in this episode. Those jokes aren’t funny. Arthur deserved that tbh
I love how many cuts to and from Merlin and Morgana we’re getting. I love the contrast between the two. BEST duo.
…why is Uther staring down a well? Who the fuck was that?
Okay! So Morgana is totally down with murder now?
So that’s Cenred. I don’t like him.
Who is that boy?
Please tell me she doesn’t plan to use that poison on Merlin.
I didn’t expect Morgana to have seen him follow her, but I’m not altogether surprised.
Morgause is clever. And honestly? I fear her more than Morgana.
Using his power as the last Dragonlord!
Kilgharrah’s there! Not sure how this is going to end. I’m fairly sure he’ll consider his debt repaid.

Another silly headcanon list, this time for my Arthurian/Arthurian-adjacent muses and how much they swear from most to least:
In first place is Elouan. He may be the Lady of the Lake's reincarnation but he's got a mouth so foul a sailor would blush.
Close second place is Dinadan. He's a farm boy before he's the son of a lord or even a Knight of the Round and someone has to tell Tristan off.
In third place to the surprise of anyone who doesn't know her it's Gareth! She grew up with three older brothers, spent time hanging around the fishermen at the Orkney docks, and spent a year working in the kitchens of Camelot. It's habit.
King Lot comes in at fourth place. He's more controlled about swearing than Gareth, but his creativity makes up for it by more than enough. But he never swears around his kids, or around Morgan.
Uther's in fifth, surprisingly. But let's not linger on him he sucks.
Emrys is very creative with swearing, but he doesn't often do so out loud. If he does start cursing then it's for a very good reason and is usually a sign of something being very wrong.
Accolon doesn't usually swear more than the occasional muttered "damn", but he can explode if his temper is pushed enough. Still, for the most part he's pretty polite and formal.
Arthur very rarely swears, and if he does it's almost always under his breath. A king needs to be without flaw, and it wouldn't do for him to give people reason to remember who his father is. He did swear a lot more often before he was crowned king, though.
Percival has only ever sworn during high-stress moments on the Grail Quest, and only because he wasn't thinking of anything beyond getting Galahad and Bors out of the situations alive.
Do you honestly think Taliesin has ever even whispered a swear word in his entire life? That man lives and breathes formal speech. The most he's ever done was writing the ancient language words down for Yvain to learn for fun.
Not even the big man upstairs could get Bors to swear. He's more formal than even Taliesin and a lot less inclined towards writing poetry. It somehow makes the moments when he calls someone a "fool" to their face all the more cutting since he doesn't accentuate it with a swear though...
Marrok is a dog.

Merlin rewatch -- S3E1: The Tears of Uther Pendragon 1
“I have not felt like this for a very long time…”
“What, drunk?”
I’ve never noticed the cute little father and son moment! That phrase sounded more Bradley than Arthur lol. Uther hitting him with the napkin was unexpected. So sweet.
