why’re two of the main characterizations for Wars I see (especially in older fics) either “hyper sexual flamboyant twink with a waist snatched by the gods and zero personality past that” or “strict judgey asshole with abs sculpted by the gods who uses trust issues and trauma to justify cruelty”

why did the completely normal secret third option, in which Wars is characterized as a kind and caring person whose trauma isn’t just completely overlooked and who actually has depth to him and isn’t just his physical appearance, not become a common characterization of him until recently??

This is such a boring answer, but my Tav is literally just me 😭

I know a big component of DnD is to play as a made-up character, but since there's a bunch of options for customization in the game, I wanted to see if I could make a character that looks like me and I got surprisingly close!

Fittingly, my plan was also to play my first run as if I had been isekai'd into Faerûn, and pick the dialog options that were closest to what I would have said myself if I had been in those situations

Salmael is definitely the easiest to turn into a human since he already looks like one, but I still had a lot of fun doodling him, his design is so much fun (✿◕‿◕✿)

AU ramblings + No text alt are below!

For sure the most relaxed of everyone in the team. Salmael doesn't usually raise his voice, so on the rare occasion that he does, everyone listens.

Before finding EMMA, he acted as the navigator for the team, only joining in combat when necessary. After his awakening, he could use split-consciousness to detect any nearby signs of life. After EMMA takes the role of navi, he is able to better focus on attacks, specializing in pierce-type physical moves. I'm still working on magic typings for the group, so I'm unsure what his is!

He's Yaldabaoth's and EMMA's younger brother (✿◕‿◕✿) Salmael definitely acts like the eldest though.

Yaldabaoth doesn't understand how he is perpetually relaxed, while EMMA makes fun of his outrageously fancy lounging wear.

Salmael gets along pretty well with everyone, though he prefers to keep to himself. He was initially not a fan of Nyx, given the stunt she tried to pull, but eventually learned to accept her as she is now.

Satanael and Izanagi are way too extreme for him. He thinks they're dense, but he doesn't dislike them.

His deity state is now equipped with even more guns! I'll draw that out sometime soon... Fighting in his humanoid form though, he uses... a gun. Or any long weapon such as spears.

His hair? He has to do it up every morning. He is very high maintenance.

He is trying so hard not to call everyone "little lost lambs" or constantly preach about serenity. Not that he's embarrassed about it, but the others make fun of him.

I'm catching up on the last 4 episodes of HOTE (I am always waiting for @isaksbestpillow's subs 'cause this story is too precious to have it be misinterpreted by bad Gaga subtitles).

I am so fascinated by both of the characters. They're so traumatized and yet there's this hint of hope that can be built upon. They're trying to find something healthy among all the cruelty of their life. Their relationship is at times incredibly toxic and yet it is the best thing that happened to either of them. They're so desperately trying to cling to the bit of good that's there. I do not know whether it will end well but I am fascinated by the characters and the story being constructed here.

one of the really interesting things to me about about abijah fowler is that he's irish, which i thought at first was like. they're just picking any random european accent guy to play the white guy and yknow what power to them. but no they have him talk about life under the tudors, they mention the history that ireland has at the opposite end of the imperial violence that abijah wields in the show. he always makes a point to emphasize that he identifies with the english, always uses "we" when talking about them and their conquests. abijah coming from a colonized people yet dealing out what he specifically characterizes as english imperial violence, versus heiji being japanese and heavily resenting abijah yet doing business with him and facilitating his rise to power with western weapons. they both collaborate very directly with their oppressor for money or power, at the expense of their people (however broadly or narrowly you want to define that. not only are heiji's political collaborators killed, it's also him and not abijah who tortures taigen. the saw trap guarding fowler's fortress was designed by both of them). as does the shogun; abijah providing gold makes him a "necessary evil" even though the shogun knows what he's all about and presumably knows he's power hungry, and the people who bear the brunt are anyone who happens to upset abijah at the wrong time and specifically female sex workers + their children
