Real talk: Do you feel like Bryke dug themselves into a deep grave with this whole Avatar Studios thing? Cause I have a prediction that they'll leave the studio or either get kicked out of it because of 'creative differences'. I just FEEL like that's gonna happen. Avatar has become too popular and people would love to explore different stuff in that universe, like characters and whatnot...unlike Bryke who has a one-tracked mind on stupid TV tropes and one particular 'ship'(K*taang).
I think I've been very vocal about my predictions for this Avatar Studios project. I mean, remember what happened the very last time Bryke threw a jealous tantrum to keep milking their precious cult classic?
They chased them out of their own project.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Bryke hasn't delivered results ever since 2015. Every recent piece of ATLA and TLOK merchandise has been... cute, but not memorable. And none of their attempts to reboot or continue the series has been successful, because they were kicked out every time they tried.
Now, I'm not claiming that (👆🏽) will happen this time around as well, and I'm still very happily living in a world where everybody involved in ATLA moved on to other professional milestones and successful careers, but here's cruel reality: Bryan and Michael already went to the end of their own story — a story they, themselves, said never intended to prolong — they showed us all of their main cast married, with children, with grandchildren, and then dead; they added unnecessary aspects to their worldbuilding that didn't benefit the plot at all, and they did all of that for the past 13 long years. If they do anything — just one thing, something as little as forgetting their own plot (again 🙄) — for changing any of that, then everything they have built, everything they love, will crumble down to rubble.
So, I wouldn't say they dug a grave... but they did shoot themselves.
I have blocked every single news site that could inform about Avatar Studios, and I will gladly continue to do so if I happen to stumble across another one. I don't care about anything that comes out of that project, and just like with JK Rowling and her forced rep headcanons, I'm not obliged to listen to Bryke's interpretations. Do I think all of this project will result in nothing at all? Yes, but considering the remote possibility that they do go through with this... I just predict they'll do meaningless additions or sell the rights to their own story (again) and then be kicked out (again).
I just hope they'll learn lesson: there comes a time when you have to let go.

I have to admit that you're the first guy I've ever come across who ships zutara! They always stan k*taang or z*kka. Nothing wrong with shipping either of course, it's just so typical to see men ship one or the other, but never Zutara. It's a complete whiplash to me to see a male ZK shipper! And not only that, but you draw them too! Your drawings are really really wonderful, all of them! Not just atla related. I'm just so surprised to see this outcome for ZK! Wow!!
First of all, thank you so much!! Glad to know you enjoy my art!
Second, neat! I guess? Idk, I was just kinda surprised by this ask, I never really realized there aren't all that many guys that ship zk. I've always liked them since I first watched the show when I was a kid! Honestly this whole ATLA renaissance was really nice since now I get to draw for what was probably my first ship ever!

hey!! do you have any multi-chapter zutara fic recs?
DO I?!
Tumblr media
Okay before I start, here’s a link to my original masterpost of fanfic recs. A lot of the masterpost is made up of one shots, but I do have some great multi-chapter fics on there as well.
NOW FOR THE ONES NOT ON THAT LIST
FINISHED
Once Around the Sun by eleventy7 (RATED K+)
Oh MAN. If you’ve been following me for a little while, you would know that this is my ALL TIME FAVORITE Zutara fanfiction. HOLY. CRAP. It’s so good. Taking place shortly after the end of the show, this post war fic is the slow burn we all deserve. Starts K//at/ang and M/a-i/ko, and it beautifully highlights the flaws of both endgame ships without demonizing either Aang or Mai. AND we get an amazing Ursa and an AMAZING Azula. Sometimes if I need a pick me up I just read the last two chapters and sob at the beauty.
Fall of the White Lotus by Boo-82 (RATED T)
Do you love soap operas? Do you love sweeping romances? Do you love the idea that the entire Avatar-universe would be DESTROYED if Katara and Zuko didn’t fall in love??? If yes to any or all of those, than this fic is for you. An epic of a post war fic, this story could take the alternate title of ‘Road Trip of LOVE: A Zutara Story’. Has some Taang on the side, so if that’s your thing you’ve got that added bonus.
Such Selfish Prayers by andromeda3116 (RATED T)
Didn’t you hate how in the comics Katara became a shell of herself who did nothing but wait on Aang hand and foot? Yeah, so did the rest of us. So here’s a story where Katara’s just chilling, watching the acolytes, and is like “Uhm wtf am I doing this isn’t me”, leaves Aang, and goes on to change the world because she’s that awesome. And yeah, Zuko just happens to be a part of her epic world changing. So beautiful.
Our Fortunes Together by NomDeGuerre (RATED M)
Like arranged marriage tropes? Love slow burn? Well here have both of them in the SAME FIC. Yep, that’s right, a slow burn arranged marriage fic. Really awesome AU where rather than be banished, Zuko has to suffer with Azula and Ozai after the Agni Kai, and the slaughter of the group he tried to save is blamed on him. His final shame is being married off to a member of the Southern Water Tribe, our babe Katara. Excellent story.
i didn’t know i was lonely (’til i saw your face) by raisindeatre (RATED T)
brb just sobbing over the beauty of this modern AU. I don’t like modern AUs. But I LOVE this one. It’s just… the best thing ever. Honestly. It’s so fluffy and cute and I’m blushing right now writing this summary for it. It’s the "I hit you with my car and was the only one to visit you in hospital" AU none of us knew we needed from Zutara. Also anyone else think of The Raven Cycle when they hear this song? Just me? Alright sorry this is a zutara fic rec I’ll stay in my lane
What Fortunes Lent by lewilder (RATED T)
Even So is one of my all time favorite one shots, but What Fortunes Lent by the same author is also an amazing worthwhile read. In this AU, the Southern Raiders mission comes when Katara is older and they take her prisoner rather than kill Kya. There are so many moments where you’ll clutch your heart and just want to cry but the ending is just beautiful if not horribly ambiguous… absolutely all around lovely fic.
STILL UPDATING
Southern Lights by colourwhirled (RATED M)
Now, I don’t really like drastic AU’s. They just aren’t what I’m typically interested in reading. But this one, oh man. I’m so in love and invested. It takes place in a universe where there is no Avatar (but there is Aang) and Sozin successfully conquers the world. The worldbuilding is FANTASTIC, characterization is amazing, and at this moment the plot is really picking up and getting interesting. Slow burn is absolutely fantastic in this story, and I’m so excited to see what happens. What I love the most is hints of events that happened in canon are sprinkled throughout, giving this feeling that some events are always meant to be, even in drastically different scenarios.
Brightest Nights or Darkest Days by Kittenshift17 (RATED M)
I want to give a warning with this one. This Zutara fanfiction will not be for everyone. This author is mainly a Dramione writer, and you can absolutely see that in how she writes the dynamic between Katara and Zuko. If you love Zutara but hate Dramione, you probably will not like this. However, as someone who likes both, I can say that this is a really well written season 2 AU and in the last update we just got an interesting addition to the plot that appears to be here to stay.
HOPEFULLY these will keep you busy for a while. Happy reading!!!

tfw it’s been  y e a r s  since the series ended and people still fight over the ships over which ‘should’ve’ been canon and ‘shouldn’t’ have been
and you’re just like ‘man just shut up’ (rant in the tags fellas because i’m tired jukuiloh;luikjyh)
#Random ramblings#i'm talking about Avatar the Last Airbender here#like it's fine if you thought the romance was forced (i don't agree with you though because there were indications of interest from both#Aang and Katara during the series over the seasons and they did have bonding moments)#but for the love of god stop tagging your ship hate in tHE ACTUAL SHIP'S TAGS AND GETTING ALL SALTY AND PISSY ABOUT A SHIP THAT BECAME CANON#OVER YOUR SHIP THAT MADE 'JUST SO MUCH MORE SENSE' AND THAT AANG IS A HORRIBLE PERSON EVEN THOUGH HE'S 12 YEARS OLD AND ZUKO AIN'T EXACTLY#AN ANGEL EITHER I MEAN THEY LITERALLY HAD NUMEROUS EPISODES EXPLAINING THIS#but yeah :)#like honestly if you're just here to have fun and look for cute K*taang art and not even discourse; you'll most likely run into ship#discourse whether you like it or not =-=#and it s uc k s#like fuck off and enjoy your damn ship sweaty and stop being such a whiny ass bitch#it happened YEARS ago and i'm sure you've already heard the same arguments already to counter the same points y'all keep bringing up#(not to mention that you guys literally make things up like how Katara was the first one to trust Zuko when;;; that was not the case;;;;;#even back when she offered to heal his scar;;;;;;;;;;; that's not trusting someone that's showing compassion and even then Aang did it first#in the Gaang and if you wanna go further - his mom and Iroh did it before anyone else did but we ain't here shipping incest though because#for obvious reasons and just; ew)#like i can't even fully embrace the triangle poly ship of these characters because of the discourse like at most it'd be V poly ship one#because when i hear Z*tara i don't think of a cute alternate ship i could've been interested in as i grew up and acknowledge some of their#traits might've worked well together - i think of a very popular toxic fandom full of salty shippers who have nothing better to do with#their lives than to crosstag ship hate all day and shove the ship down people's throats even if they're just trying to be chill and enjoy#their side of the fandom jukilhoiuikujyht#i mean there's other reasons why i still don't ship it even now despite it being the more 'mature' ship that makes 'more sense' and had 'so#much potential' than the 'forced' and 'immature' canon ship (because i literally don't see them getting along that way nor think the show#even had a lot of hints) but still - i don't get Fr*ezerburn from RWBY but at least they had positive bonding moments and personalities that#were different but didn't clash so often#anyway rant over i'm fine now ;w;#that is until the next crosstagged anti-K*taang post#i would say Z*tara reminds me of R*ylo but that'd be doing a disservice to Zuko since he's a billion times better than that flat piece of#white bread and by flat i mean that Kylo Ren has no personality other than Edgy and Anger and his story is really boring and unrelatable

★ Salman Has Gone Beyond Bajrangi Bhaijaan in Tubelight: Kabir Khan !
Subhash K. Jha | April 16th 2017
After Ek Tha Tiger and Bajrangi Bhaijaan, director Kabir Khan is ready with his third film starring Salman Khan. The film is unusually titled as Tubelight. Of course, Salman fans want to know everything about this project, which is one of the most eagerly awaited films of the year. Kabir shares some interesting tit bits about Tubelight in this interview.
Q: Kabir do you feel the pressure of delivering a bigger hit than Bajrangi Bhaijaan?
Kabir Khan: I don’t think about it. But I’ll tell you the one thing that has changed. I am recognized by my face in public. This is strange because I don’t appear on television and on magazine covers. In fact, the first full-fledged interview I did was on Koffee With Karan with my wife (TV personality Mini Mathur). As for the expectations, if I start considering what people expect from me, I’ll end up doing more of the same.
If I had let the expectations after Ek Tha Tiger weigh down on me, I’d have never made Bajrangi Bhaijaan. I’d have made another Tiger. Bajrangi took Salman Khan’s image to a diametrically opposite place to where it was.
Q: Yes, Salman actually played a character in Bajrangi Bhaijaan?
Kabir Khan: There was no misplaced machismo, no unwanted bravado. Salman played a hero of the kind that is bigger than any action hero could ever be and it paid off. While making Bajrangi Bhaijaan, we didn’t take on the pressure of living up to Ek Tha Tiger. And Bajrangi went on to become Salman’s biggest hit by miles.
Q: Doesn’t film trade put the pressure of outdoing Bajrangi Bhaijaan?
Kabir Khan: It does. But then, I can only make the film that I want to make, not what the trade wants me to make. Bajrangi went on to make Rs 325 crores. If I start thinking that in Tubelight I have to perform one of the biggest hits of all times, I’ll be a nervous wreck.
Q: Your films bring into play a certain subtle politics with a great amount of humanism. Is that true for Tubelight too?
Kabir Khan: That’s how it is in Tubelight as well. Though it is set in 1962, the politics of those times is still very much relevant. In fact some of those issues from back then are more relevant today than ever.
Q: What made you turn to India’s relations with China, when Pakistan is a far more dramatic neighbour?
Kabir Khan: Maybe I had enough of that (in Bajrangi Bhaijaan). When you see Tubelight you will realise that Indo-Chinese relations provide the perfect backdrop for my story. When it comes to the politics in my films, I like to be authentic and accurate. The 1962 war served as a perfect backdrop for Tubelight. It’s like my film New York, where first there was the story of these three friends and then came the backdrop of New York.
Q: Have you gone out of your way to recreate the aura of 1962?
Kabir Khan: There is some amount research and effort gone into getting the physicality right. Come to think of it, this is my first period film. But people in 1962 didn’t dress and talk very differently than they do today, except maybe you have them wearing less brands, more hand-made clothes, etc.
Back then in 1962 there was no television either. Doordarshan started in 1965. But after a while, you will forget the clothes and the period in Tubelight. You will be looking at the story. In Lagaan you weren’t looking at the dhotis. You were looking at the grudge match being played in front of you. The story should make the audience forget everything else.
Q: And that happens in Tubelight?
Kabir Khan: I think it will. I am very happy with what I’ve done in Tubelight. And I am a pretty objective judge of my work.
Q: In your evaluation have you gone beyond Bajrangi Bhaijaan in Tubelight?
Kabir Khan: I wouldn’t say that about myself because I can’t really grade my own work that closely. But I’d definitely say that Salman has gone beyond Bajrangi Bhaijaan in Tubelight. Way beyond as an actor. Yes, he becomes the character completely.
Q: From the looks of it, Salman again plays a simpleton with a heart of gold in Tubelight?
Kabir Khan: I won’t go into the details of his character. But yes, it is the most endearing character Salman has ever played.
Q: Do you think Salman’s fans will ever accept him in a negative role?
Kabir Khan: Why not? It would depend on the story and the context. But I know that Salman would never play a negative character. But audiences would accept the character if it is written convincingly. But Salman’s heart won’t accept it. His characters have to have their heart in the right place.
Q: How much of yourself do you put in your films?
Kabir Khan: Cinema is a reflection of its maker’s life. You know, every single character in my cinema is named after someone I know. Take Manish Chandra, Salman’s name in Ek Tha Tiger, is my brother-in-law, my wife Mini’s brother. He’s a lovely guy. Everything is so correct about Manish. When Tiger wanted an alias in the film, it fitted in well. Even my friend Jaideep Sarkar, he used my name for Shah Rukh Khan in Chak De. He wanted the name of a liberal Muslim for his hero.
I always say that Bollywood is not a satellite hovering in outer space. It is part of our every day life. We all are human and we borrow stories and characters from around us. Which is why we have so many characters, who are so patriarchal in their attitude. The values in our cinema come from within us. If they don’t then we are guilty of making dishonest cinema.
Q: What about all those stories of you and Salman getting into a fight?
Kabir Khan: (Laughs). This is nothing new. We were supposed to have had fights during Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Ek Tha Tiger. It’s true! We do have a lot of arguments, discussions, differences of opinion during shootings. You know if you are are working closely with someone, you are bound to argue with them.
Q: Such stories come from within the film industry?
Kabir Khan: They probably do. These are signs of insecure people. Insecurity is not conducive to great creativity.
Q: Tubelight would probably be the last time we’ll see Om Puri on screen?
Kabir Khan: Yes, this is his last appearance. I can’t believe he’s gone. What I will always remember is his childlike enthusiasm for his work, even after so many years.
Q: Does he have a substantial role in Tubelight?
Kabir Khan: Oh yes! This was right after the cameo in Bajrangi Bhaijaan. He warned me, “Iss baar agar issse badaa role nahin diya toh taange tod dunga teri” (if this time you don’t give me a bigger role I’ll break your legs). Om jiplays a heartwarming character. His going was so sudden and shocking. Luckily he went with his boots on.
