Any hockey player out there. the power in knowing that the nhl is a show for people’s entertainment… the glory and gore of it all. he can dance the dance more than the rest of them can. it’s in his nature to play to the audience, love or hate. with his current status as the nhl’s protagonist what couldn’t u write w matthew in it… personally i think he’s too genre aware for something weird and bendy and full au-type so you’d have to go abt as mundane with it as u could. keep him in the real world let the people confuse him as opposed to the universe. i think a healthy dose of family drama would do him well. not that he’s not already experiencing that but we know so little about the REAL internal machinations of the tkachuk’s web you could make it go however you like

oh man i didnt even post my fnaf movie thoughts yet oops.

so as someone that used to be like. a Mega FNAF fan in middle school (thats when the original quadrilogy was coming out during) and a casual fnaf fan in high school after the original series finished with pizzeria simulator (last game i was there for truly was sister location but i was around for pizzeria simulator & the vr one), i remembered following this movies production since like. 2015. i was very excited to hear that the jim henson creature shop were gonna work on the animatronics, and i just couldnt wait for this film, now that its out, what do i think of it???

disclosure: yeah it was also released on streaming so thats how i was able to watch it

but yeah. idk, i thought this film was Fine. from a casual outsider point of view. i must give my praises to the jim henson creature shop for the animatronics, they were adapted beautifully to live action and they felt like real robots in a chuck e cheese's that could walk around at night (because they're haunted). so they got the animatronics right, if you were worried if they couldnt depict freddy & gang right

but besides that, eh??? i think scott cawthon is not a good writer (dont get me started on the william afton gasses children with nightmare gas lore. you dont wanna hear my thoughts on that). they made mike, from the first game, kindof an unlikeable, white bread charisma vacuum. i did not care for him or his family drama, i like. understand why it was important at the center of the film. (just like mike stoklasa redlettermedia will say in his eventual review for this film, "this film was about family") i just did not care for him or anything surrounding him

im glad they didnt make purple guy british in the film. the youtuber cameo scared me more than the animatronics did, this film has a massive tonal problem that. i think wouldve been solved if they leaned in on how humourous the situation is, because you get some occasional splashes of how funny scary this is (the cupcake eating someone alive, the balloon boy jumpscares). but it's really more melodramatic or somber than it needed to be. and like. you could have Some Serious or Quiet moments, those are fine, but there isnt as much fun in here as there should be. there isnt really a balance, this is kindof a film more for the older fans

with that said, the fans of the older games LOVED this film, so this might just be an unpopular opinion that i share with a few others. so yeah, if you like the older fnaf games and wanted to see it in a film, this is the film for you. if you wanted a fun animatronic horror film, then look else where (theres that one nicholas cage fnaf film, and the banana splits film as well), because this is just another by the books horror film if ur looking from the outside

Elvis & Nixon (2016) review

Whelp, since I gave the showtime 90s movie depicting this infamous story a watch, time for the modern Amazon version. And right off the bat they are both similar and very different. It contains by far the strangest Elvis performance I've ever seen acting along side a certain disgraced Hollywood actor... Theres a lot to go through so let's take a walk

Okay, bandaid off, Kevin Spacey plays Nixon. In watching this movie I in no way promote him or his actions, and frankly whether his performance was good or not doesn't change my negative feelings on him as a person. This viewing experience was for reviewing purposes only.

Theres a lot to cover so I'll try to keep it informative without going into full on spoiler territory.

Right, so the movie itself, the story of Elvis meeting Nixon. It's a comedy (hard for a story like this not to be) but a different one from it's more campy 90s predecessor in almost every way.

Structurally speaking, Jerry Schilling is a major player in this movie (both in producing and as a character) And it dips into the themes of Elvis as a person always kind of pulling him back into his life now and then. Jerry is sort of the audience stand in, in that way. But unfortunately this lands with Elvis's own character not being as deeply explored.

What I do like is they give him a couple of scenes in which he expresses a loss of identity, and like most Elvis movies worth their salt, Jesse Garon gets a mention.

But time for the other elephant in the room.

Micheal Shannon as Elvis.

So as someone who has now seen a ridiculous amount of Elvis movies, theres a spectrum of how actors depict him. You want to be recognizable without going full on novelty impersonation.

Theres even a scene that pokes fun at over the top impersonators.

Austin Butler hit that golden spot where he found a way to do the accent, the voice, mannerisms, without it becoming like a halloween costume, it's hard to pull off.

Whats interesting about Micheal Shannon is he went for the complete opposite. In that he acted nothing like Elvis. No accent, no drawl, no pet names or nothing. Now in his defense, this is a comedy/drama. The idea of someone being soft voiced and deadpan while being Elvis Presley is funny.

But, this movie doesn't go all the way with it. Maybe the idea behind it was 'wouldn't it be crazy if we cast two totally unexpected actors for these parts?' Heres the issue I had. Spacey plays it straight.

Yeah, Kevin Spacey is just doing a regular ass Nixon performance, it's not campy or over the top its just a regular performance. And every other actors are also playing their character pretty straight as well. There are also a couple of more serious scenes that include Elvis questioning his identity.

If the whole movie was weird, then yeah, Micheal Shanon would be a perfect fit. But all I'm thinking here as an audience member is... 'why are the people around him blown away by this deeply underwhelming guy in sunglasses?'

And if the point was 'Elvis was a man, not a brand', it missed the mark on that too. Humanizing is one thing. But Elvis truly was a charismatic and magnetic person. And if you completely cut that out, I'm sorry it's missing a huge part of who he was.

Now not every movie has to worship the ground that Elvis walked on. But with Elvis Meets Nixon (1997) There was a real sense for the guy, you totally got why people put up with his more silly shit, you got why women would let him get away with murder. Even if the actor playing him in that wasn't drop dead gorgeous, his charisma put across just how he got into places no one else could. That movie both took pot shots at him, and showed an understanding.

In the context of Elvis & Nixon (2016), Elvis just comes off as an old famous guy with money. He's cold to his fans and strangers a like. Without the hair and glasses, you would have no idea what this performance is going for. And if you're gonna be passing off Elvis like that, you better be packing in a hell of a lot more laughs along the way.

The saving grace is by the end Spacey and Shannon work off together pretty well. But nothing great, honestly. And I'll say this, it's more realistic than 'Elvis Meets Nixon', if thats more your speed.

Considering it has fuckin Kevin Spacey as one actor and a deeply odd version of Elvis across him, I'd say skip this one. If you're on a marathon, I'm sure it's on the list, but I just don't feel much of any heart in this one. It just comes and go without much impact and honestly, not much point.

Introducing Gusher Crusher, my Bugsnax sona! He used to be famous for being in commercials for an orange drink- he could crush the can in his mouth and drink it that way! Buuut after a scandal and people finding out he's been faking it, he went to Bugsnax island...

He is super charismatic and Loves to boogie. He is also very judgy and loves drama, which made him Beffica's new bestie...until he found out SHE was the one who broke the story about him faking crushing the cans.

Gusher and Cromdo get along due to a love for advertising and selling useless shit to people. Cromdo knows he himself does NOT have the charisma to do that well- but Gusher DOES. Gusher doesnt have the business sense to come up with "product", but Cromdo does!

So they quickly became a team. The reporter, upon doing Gusher's quests, finds out that for a long time Gusher COULD crush those cans- but he had a bad tmj injury and could no longer do it well, but wanted to hide it becuase he didnt want to lose his status...

He was always invited to places as "The guy from the grumpy-d commercials who can crush cans" and he didnt want to lose that! He thinks theres nothing else to him besides that anyone would ever like  :(

I think the reporter then asks Cromdo about Gusher and he well..starts gushing. So you can ask him "You seem to like Gusher...a lot." and Cromdo is like "Buddy, the only thing I care about around here is these snax, so either give me some or get outta here"

But the reporter can follow him midday to the Mill- surprisingly meeting up with Chandlo and Snorpy...asking how this whole "Gay" and "Love" stuff works. I think the 3 eventually notice you and Cromdo is like "FINE ya caught me red handed. Er..rainbow handed, I guess."

"If youre gonna go snoopin around like that at least help a guy out. I gotta know if Crusha feels the same, you know? I didnt think Id feel like this about anyone since my wife left but- him..I do."

And Chandlo is like "So you want us to help you figure out if your crush likes you?" And Snorpy is like "I do have on question." and Cromdo is like "What." and Snorpy is like "Are you stupid? He CLEARLY likes you, hes not subtle."

So the next day you see the conclusion to the quest line, which is Cromdo 'pitching' a new product..and that product? is HIM. It takes Gusher a sec to realize but when he does hes like O MGOMGOMGOMGOMG I THOUGHT YOUD NEVER ASK

So these two middle aged advertising men are together now. You get a pride flag in the mail but theres bite marks on it and the letter says "Sorry, this was on the floor last night, we got a bit crazy. Hope its still usable."

i know there was drama over folks debating whether will afton was morally okay to enjoy as a character but they all ignored the fact hes objectively hilarious

like he can time travel through ball pits, he has died at least 4-5 times, he somehow had a wife and children, he kills people for seemingly no reason whatsoever, he disguised himself as a nightguard and had to check his name badge to remember his fake name which was Dave, he wears a fursuit that can kill him, he was bricked up in a wall by his co-worker, he ran at least 3 successful children restaurant chains even though hes described as having 'negative charisma', theres an implication that hes either a vampire or a corpse, hes survived being burnt alive and crushed by metal, he built a lair underneath his co-workers house that was apparently big enough to have technicians hired, a robot he built his daughter promptly killed her, no one really questioned why his robots have spaces designed to trap people inside, he gives his robots anxiety, he got his ass trapped in a VR game and somehow possessed someone through this

(I've sent something similar to Duchessbitch but I wanna send it to you also cuz l like hearing your thoughts <3) I think Meg and Harry expected to leave and get the same treatment that Diana got when she divorced, the thing is, Diana was a beloved and iconic Royal for 16 years, she had a great record in terms of charity, work ethic, and fashion. she was also (most importantly imo) SINGLE, so there was always a vibe that she was starting a new an exciting chapter as a fully realized woman after being 'shy Di' for so long, people wanted to know who she was going to end up with and how she would balance that part of her life while still raising a future heir. Meghan and Harry are a middle aged couple with two kids, and it doesn't help that there is no mystique to their characters considering how well documented Harrys life is and how open Meghan was about her life. theres just not that "new beginnings" feel with them, especially after the Oprah interview, neither of them have the charisma or character it would take to make it big just talking about whatever, and they don't have any talents to carry them forward in any chosen field, Meg was a decent actress but no production company would touch her considering how controversial she is, and all Harry has ever known was being a prince, so if he talks about it more it would just feel hypocritical considering he supposedly hated that role, so why continue to milk it?? I honestly think they missed their chance after the interview and will only be minor celebs who do charities and maybe promote some ""ethical"" brands from now on.

I think another thing to consider is the way in which they left.

Diana got to play the "scorned woman" card. She got to be like "Listen, my husband cheated on me, I tried to make it work but I couldn't and I'm a victim here. And now The Queen is FORCING him to divorce me. BUT my son is the future King so I will always have a place here." She had a LOT of built-up good will from the people - 16 years, as you said - working in her favor. People were already well and truly on her side. And, for all intents and purposes, Diana took what they offered her and left. She took her massive settlement and her huge apartment in a literal palace and was like "Okay, I will continue to be this quasi-royal and *continue* to do good work and not embarrass The Queen and my sons any further."

Harry and Meghan threw a hissy fit and left. They kicked and screamed and said they wanted more than they got. They called everyone names and whined about how horribly mean everyone was to them. They made demands of The Queen and Prince Charles that couldn't be met and when they didn't get what they wanted they went on international TV to tear the family down. And they did all this after 72 days of working and kind of causing problems and drama everywhere they went. They were already polarizing figures that many people were a bit unsure of and they torched every shred of good will that that built up by denigrating The Queen.

i’m pretty new to bruce’s music, i’ve only listened to born to run, darkness on the edge of town, and nebraska. he’s so special and definitely one of my favorite artists i’ve come across in a really really long time. i’ve listened to the river a couple of times too, and i have some mixed feelings about it, so i was just wondering if you have any thoughts on it? bc i feel like the good songs are really good (the river the song is one of my favorites out of all his songs so far) but a lot of them feel lackluster compared to born to run or darkness imo? and idk if i’m just not giving the album enough of a chance because i love the first three so much or what. i was also quickly curious if you know if he ever wrote any other songs as hard and angry as adam raised a cain? i love angry bruce 😌

hi i love the river!! after seeing bruce during the 2016 river tour was what really made me a huge fan of his so it has a special place in my heart 💛 its an explosive album when performed so i really recommend checking out live versions! i think e street captured their bar band sound to the greatest extent on the river but literally theres nothing like the real thing... i also recommend watching the ties that bind documentary because the record really fought 2 be in this world.

the biggest reason i love the river is that unlike bruces first 4 albums i think the river distinctly married his soul influences (the drama and sentimentality to even the pop sound) with his 50s rock n roll charisma (the exciting big band sound and corny but straightforward and witty lyrics). like soul and early rock n roll is so exciting and moving and seemingly simplistic but at the same time it can be so profound and complicated.. i think the river attempts to do all that in such a genuine way

ive wanted to do youtube, or animation, or anything to do with being an influencer, for literally 6-8 years, ive attempted to make videos during those times, or write scripts, or do anything along those lines. but every single time ive attempted, ive had the same trains of thought or the same voices in my head that essentially make me give up before i even start. i have super complex feelings about it and im in a rambling mood so i guess im just gonna vent all i can about it and get it out.

i mean, a huge reason has been because ive been going through absolute hell my entire teenage/young adulthood, just all these personal traumas/emergencies/crises that have made me need to prioritse surviving day by day, which makes taking time to create genuinely so difficult. it makes me sad because as a preteen/early teen, i of course went through a lot of trauma and family dysfunction, but i used the computer and mt creativty to escape it all. i was really actively making amv’s, stories, art, etc. i arguably had more of a following/community than i do now. and im not sure what changed. i think just the general....fact that my trauma started to get more complex and being repeatedly shown that escaping didnt truly let me escape my abuses. i think ive been rewarded for staying low, keeping quiet, staying agreeable and compliant, because anything outside of that has gotten me hurt in the past.

i feel like im constantly swimming with ideas and inspiration, and i have a lot of feelings and need to talk about things. im not self absorbed by any means, and the idea of being an “influencer” itself is not whats appealing, i just like the idea of having my ideas out there and seeking connection through that. 

and a lot of the thought patterns i get when i think about creating are a combination of “whats the point?” “someone else has already done it and better” “its an oversaturated market” “what makes me more interesting than the next person?” “i cant handle having my existence on display to others for them to critique and form opinions about” etc which i know are all very self-deprecating thoughts

but they get more complex than that

i think about how much youtubers are under scrutiny, i think about how toxic internet culture has become, and not even in a just way, like i literally cant handle the idea of a small group of people stalking my internet history over the 14 years ive been online, even knowing my deadname or some shit. and ive seen how much people can hurt when they wanna hurt.

i also, in a self deprecating way, just find myself not interesting. i think a lot about how people are constantly fighting algorithms and creating an online persona to get an edge, to grow their platform. then i get into this spiral of feeling like ugh. we’re forced to make a brand out of ourselves and sell ourselves. we lose a lot of our humanity through this, because weve curated a very specific version of ourselves that is digestible and consumable. im also not a confrontational person (due to trauma) and i see a lot of the popular youtubers be people that are very outspoken, cemented in their ideas, and unfortunatly, are in dramas or even seek/perpetrate it. of course i follow a lot of people who arent like that, but they feel a lot more educated and well spoken compared to me.

again, i understand a lot of this comes from self depreaction and pesimission, but i literalyl cannot shake these thoughts every time i go to create something. “whats the point” is a very strong thought, because i feel like a nothing, someone who cant add anything substantial to pretty much any topic that has already been discussed into the ground. it feels very bleak and a big reason ive struggled to even draw or create merch the last 2 years. or bothered with my online presence as an artist. i have lots of visions and goals about where i wanna take myself, but dont have the charisma, motivation, or certainty that i want to.

and i know that being a creator isnt as vapid and vain as im making it sound, being a creator online is just that, a creator. expressing creativity, taking the ideas in your head and sharing it with others. i feel like thats, at its core, why pretty much everyone starts out doing this. but i mean, dont even get me started on the need to monetise off your creativty, thats another big chunk as to why i falter in producing “content”. im just so fatigued, because i know i cant ever been like my 13 year old self again where i just created whatever the fuck i wanted out of fun, bc i now feel like the internet has been...”infected by capitalism” for a lack of a better term, and theres a lot of pressure nowadays to sell yourself to a certain standard.

ironically, i feel like composing a proper think piece about my feelings and putting them into a video lmao.

also just practical issues like i dont have the money to invest in a camera/equipment, ive had unstable housing in the past so production has been difficult/impossible, and i havent had the computer to handle video editing up until last year. siiiigh, just so much fuckery

Hello welcome to me rambling about how much I love my dnd character :3

So first of all you need back story: so our first campaign ended and we're starting our second one. The character we'll be using are mostly the children of our last characters. One of the characters (kaysa) had twins from sleeping with a demi god in a sewer (pls don't ask theres no explanation) so the twins are super mega powerful. I am playing one of them.

Her name is eira. She's a sorcerer like her mom. Unlike her mom she has 1d8 hit dice (socerers usually have 1d6) she can use martial weapons (which no magic user can usually use). Her ac is 16 w no armor (again not usually something spell casters can achieve as sorcerer are squishy, kaysa had a 13 ac no armor if I remember correctly) oh and she's has a 22 charisma making her the most beautiful person you'll probably ever see (super not normal in dnd you can only usually go up to a 20 in any skill, but eira is a part god so rules don't apply to her or her twin)

In other words I got hella lucky when I called dibs on playing this character more than a year ago

The party member who played kaysa is playing eiras twin brother: enis

We decided enis would be the sweetest boi ever and eira would protect him with her life from being bullied (the bullying has already started ahshdjd) enis and eira are gonna go to magic school on the Continent their "father" is from (their real father- sewer man- is a demigod and in their culture they do not stay to raise their children, they just go around having kids with everyone)

I've decided to make eira a girly tomboy; likes dresses but wouldn't hesitate to put you in a headlock for literally no reason. She also wants to be a necromancer agsgdhd

Also our real father is the enemy of our current father and the school were going to is to train us to kill our birth father's family cause they're sworn enemys and absolutely no drama could come out of that right?

There's a lot of little personality traits I have planned for eira but idk how much they'll stick until I actually play her but I'm super excited and I think about her every day
