First time trying Voicevox, using enthusiastic drive as a test (but I don't think I'll finish it), it's such a fast paced song so I like to use it as a test on how complicated I can make songs w specific voices and such. It's much harder for me to work with than synthV since it's all in japanese, as far as I can tell... but Nana was one of my favorite utauloids as a kid so I definitely want to make at least ONE song with her in the future

I'm torn between wanting Sega and Crypton to go fully scorched earth and just make Project Diva Mega Mix+ into a community-supported game with custom beatmaps and songs (similarly to that of Osu) knowing fully well that would never happen due to all the copyright and gameplay issues that would arise (it would be such a stripped down version of the game that it wouldn't even be Project Diva anymore) and just wanting them to release another paid DLC pack some day which also likely will never happen because dev support for Mega Mix+ is basically dead.

The songs packed with Mega Mix+ are great, I've found a lot of new favorites through it as well, but inevitably I'll still wind up dropping the game when I either hit my skill ceiling or simply lose interest in trying to perfect the same limited number of songs, and that bums me out because it is a very fun game, but it's severely limited by the restrictions that arise by its curated-only track design.

Like, 251 tracks (if you have all the DLC) sounds like a lot until you realize that only a third of them might be fun to play and despite so many legacy songs being available - Love is War, World is Mine, Rolling Girl, etc. - there are a lot of others that are strangely missing as well. Ievan Polkka and Hato are nowhere to be found despite being in prior titles thanks to copyright disputes. Matryoshka and Echo are both songs that have been covered to death by the Vocaloid community precisely because of how iconic they are, but of course they aren't even in the DLC packs. Despite Kasane Teto and Akita Neru being present as customizable characters, they don't really have any songs to show for their presence; they feel more like the obligatory fanservice cameo which I can understand to some degree considering they're from the UTAU cast and aren't as massively known characters as Miku and the Kagamine twins, but you're telling me the devs got as far as including the OG UTAU trio of Teto, Neru, and Haku, and didn't think for a second to include Triple Baka as a playable song??? 💀😭

There damn well better be some legal reason they couldn't include it because I won't take "the song is cringe" as an excuse, y'all put the Miku cover of Nyan Cat in there LMAO

I will continue to dream of a day when I can play a Project Diva beatmap for Bacterial Contamination. Or Panda Hero. Or Adventurous Girl & Miniature Garden Game. Shit, I'd even take Honey Honey at this point, at least the OG UTAUloid trio are in that one. Fifty years from now I'm gonna be in the fucking retirement home grumbling incoherent nonsense about Teto Territory and y'all can't stop me 😆

so, i'm raka. i've lurked around the internet for a little while now--since I was about five. restricted internet access? don't know her. i only started really participating in online communities when i was about 10, on quotev and amino (rip, it was a shitshow but i had a good time for the most part). at some point i just kinda...fell off of trying to find internet spaces? it didn't really feel fun anymore, y'know? i went back to lurking, looking at stuff i enjoyed/making things in silence.

My personal favorite of watashinokoko's. The emotional destruction this song has done to me is indescribable. The subject matter is wildly interesting- being through the eyes of anime girls created solely for eroge- and I can't help but wish we had more music with strange perspectives like this! To my knowledge, there's a single youtube video up with translated english lyrics, but I didn't include it due to the blatantly nsfw images in it; view at your own discretion. Speaking of similar subjects to the previously mentioned song.... I have a really strong fascination with people using h-loids to create music (it's likely you've seen the most popular case of this, being riyona's cover of maretu's SIU!). Their base functions don't mesh well with the act of actually singing which sure makes it an impressive show of skill and creativity. I believe I've seen talk of utau's being made with acme iku and riyona's(?) voicebanks but you'll have to double check on the latter

I am. Trying. To remain calm. About that vocaloid take.

First of all, anyone who has the opinion of vocaloid not having diversity in range and technique clearly haven't delved deep enough into the community because there are some voice banks that are so well tuned that they honestly sound like real people with FANTASTIC range. I've heard some fantastic covers of OPERA with vocaloid that have been so beautifully composed.

Also, Vocaloid is NOT to blame for the rise of AI generated covers. That is 100% on techbro jerks who feel they are entitled to anyone's voice. Literally one of the things currently being fought over is the fact that current AI voicebanks made by people are being made WITHOUT CONSENT! All official Vocaloid Banks, as well as most Utau banks, are made WITH CONSENT AND WITH EXPLICIT PLANS FOR THEIR RELEASE. One of my favorite singers is a trans man, and he's arranged for a vocaloid to have his voice as it was pre-transition because while he wants to work on lowering his voice as he transitions, he still likes the sound of his old singing voice and wants that part of his past archived and wants to be able to eventually do duets with himself in any future songs using both versions of his voice. I MEAN COME ON PEOPLE HOW FUCKING COOL IS THAT?

Also, imagine someone who wants to sing music they wrote themselves but they physically can't do certain notes due to injuries or heath complications. Or if they happen to be mute due to a myriad of factors and the sound of these synthetic Vocaloids and Utatus allow for those with that specific tone they want to convey to people (seriously, a song by Miku will song very different from the same song being covered by Flower or Pico or Lapis).

AND DO NOT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE STORY TELLING ASPECT FOR THINGS LIKE THE EVILIOUS CHRONICLES.

There are fantastic uses for Vocal banks and fantastic ways they are used. And there's absolutely ethical ways to use it (which is honestly what most of current Vocaloid and the Utauloid community is doing). The issue currently is the fact that people are unethically sourcing voices without consent. We need to put together laws and guidelines regarding this. Something that will make EVERYONE happy, from performer to composer to fan.

So sorry to whoever submitted that take but seriously. Dude (gender neutral).

Help me pick vocaloids for my vocaloid dating sim

Hey! I'm making a dating sim for miku day. I'm now deciding on side characters and I need, for a very small minor scene, to pick two vocaloids to play a prince and a princess and I decided to let you guys vote.

The catch is instead of doing the sensible thing and making a poll with popular ships, I decided to make one large poll with a bunch of characters and let you all vote on your favorites. The most voted will play the princess, and the second most voted will play the prince. I thought it would be more chaotic that way.

Since tumblr limits me to 10 options I just picked ones I already wanted to include if I had time. If there is a vocaloid or utauloid you personally really wanna see just send me an ask and I'll consider them when picking minor roles.

I haven't included Rin, Len and Miku since they are datable characters and Gumi is already a secondary character with a different role.

like i think he knows vaguely of miku from when she releases (he's an otaku online in 2007, of course he does) but he's only like semi-aware of vocaloid...? like he's heard a few vocaloid songs in passing, seen miku in a few flash animations, but then post-big shell he ends up stumbling across megu megu ☆ fire endless night by samfree & he's holy fuck they make eurobeat with this shit? and then he's hooked (otacon loves eurobeat to me. if / when i make a playlist for him it will be a lot of eurobeat)

side note but i like to think otacon loves to dance parapara but he sucks absolute balls at it. like he just cannot memorize the moves and he's all out of sync but he drags snake into it and they both end up laughing so hard they have to sit down on the couch and its ok because they had fun :)

also i think otacon still listens to vocaloid long after mgs4 (sorry kojima but i am REJECTING the "i used to be an anime otaku" line. his ass is STILL an anime otaku) like i bet sunny gets into it just by chance (she's a kid online in the 2010s of course she likes vocaloid) and she tells him about it and hal gets to go full "well back in my day" and sunny is like awestruck that her uncle hal knows so much about hatsune miku. i think sunny's favorites are hime & mikoto meika and she makes raiden cosplay them with her at least once (sunny is hime because that's her favorite of the two). raiden seemed too grumpy about it to actually cosplay them but he ends up having a lot of fun i think raiden is a really big fan of cosplaying it's like an escape from his real life if only for a little while.

if i had money i would pay someone to draw raiden & sunny as the meikas im actually thinking about this so much now. please imagine otacon getting dragged into this and cosplaying gumi because she's his favorite. if snake got roped into it he'd cosplay miku (probably to match otacon but also because the mental image of solid snake in a miku wig is really funny to me). please imagine, if you will, otasune but they are cosplaying miku & gumi as they appear in hachi's song matryoshka ok?

8. Favorite Vocaloid song?

impossible question. evil. thank you. but i have to answer, so let's start off strong! Kikuo produces songs that make me want to turn into a dragon and destroy a city. i yearn for the day i can go to a concert of his or at least hear this at a con rave LOL

11. When did you start listening to VocaSynth songs?

2009. one middle school (MIDDLE SCHOOL!) friend told me to look up Vocaloid and i think i started with this ancient niche song by Kiyoteru HIyama? at least, it was the very first file downloaded into my itunes that was Vocaloid. i still kinda adore it hehe

13. Favorite dance?

idk if this even counts but i have been personally obsessed with this one dance cover of Envy Catwalk and the entire trend of spontaneous dance. i think about how much of a serve this was even now. Nyantaro you are always in my ♡

14. Favorite VocaSynth classic?

hmm what are the classics... hmmmm. not sure if it's a classic but it is from what i'd consider the classic era, i adore Carnival by Gumi. also Otetsu as a producer was one of my top in the early days. (when i was so little i wanted to perform this at a talent show and make the dress LOL)

17. What VocaSynth is underrated to you?

so Rim is proprietary but i think her company greatly underutilizes her. they make really idol-pop music for her when her depth of range is just so much more than that. I want more songs like Lonely Person. just. just LISTEN to this. she's insane.

18. What VocaSynth do you wish there was more songs for?

she's got a lot, but i really love Teto Vsynth! im partial because my friend from high school loved Kasane Teto as an utauloid back in the day straight up til now. but seriously, her voice bank has transcended all expectations and she sounds amazing when paired with her utau bank too. you get really cool songs like this,

actually im not done with Teto. the thing is i don't listen to her as frequently as other Vocas but every time i do, it's instantly a brain worm.

22. Have you ever cosplayed a VocaSynth?

Kaito! no i do not have pictures :) remember, this started as the middle school obsession. *shudders*
