In 1803 the First International Healthcare Expedition in history, known as the Royal Philanthropic Vaccine Expedition, set sail from A Coruña. 22 orphaned children and doctor Francisco Javier Balmis, personal physician to Carlos IV, set off on a trip to the Americas, China and the Phillipines with the ambitious goal to immunise thousands of people against the dreaded disease.

Today we know that smallpox has been the deadliest viral disease in the history of mankind. This Spanish nurse was the only woman on board and she became the backbone of the expedition. It is known that more than half a million people were innoculated. It was, without doubt, one of the greatest healthcare feats in history. Isabel Zendal is considered by The World Health Organisation (WHO) as the first nurse in history to take part in an international humanitarian mission.

In this Work we wanted to capture the moment before leaving. How did she feel? Did she already know that she won‘t return to spain?

It will give you a sense of calm because they are speaking commonsense without any hidden agendas, unsolicited truth, because math, science and all the arms from that, stating facts, everything they deliver to the public is evidence-based, I know because I do a lot of that work. Sexual Health | Positive Sex Sexual Health…what is sexual health?  It is in our Positive Sex bi-line (Advocates for Sexual Health & Self-Awareness). And it is what we are all about 😊 According to www.who.int, (The World Health Organisation) Sexual Health is defined as, “…a state of physical, mental and social well-being in relation to sexuality. It requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships, as well as the possibility of having pleasurable and safe sexual experiences, free of coercion, discrimination and violence.” For us here at Positive Sex, we feel that sexual health is encompassing of all these elements.  But most importantly to us, is the ability to be able to communicate freely & honestly about how we identify with our self-expression, what we want, & what we do not want with our sexual partners, peers & healthcare professionals. This is important to us as this ultimately leads to acceptance, self-acceptance, understanding & freedom to explore what feels good with our consenting adult partners. South Korean authorities have sought to reassure people as the number who have died after being vaccinated against seasonal influenza rose to 13. The doctor leading an inquiry into the deaths has said he does not believe the vaccine and fatalities are connected. But trust in the vaccine programme has been dented, and the Korean Medical Association has called for it to be halted until its safety is assured. So far around 13 million people in South Korea have received the flu jab. The country launched a free flu vaccination programme for 19 million eligible people last month as the government tries to avoid a mass flu outbreak while it tackles Covid-19.. A 17-year-old boy who died two days after receiving a flu shot was the first to be noted by officials. The other reported fatalities were all elderly. At least eight were in their 70s or 80s with underlying conditions. "I understand and regret that people are concerned about the vaccine," Health Minister Park Neung-hoo said, but confirmed the free programme would go ahead.
