My distaste with season 5, and this show as a whole, boils down to the fact that the writers have gone all in on the idea that the only true Character that is allowed to exist in this story is Johnny, and nearly all the others are just malleable dolls for the writers to move around and play with as they see fit to advance the story in a direction that will make Johnny the Ultimate Winner Of Everything.
And I hear the criticisms already of “but Johnny’s the protagonist! Obviously every other character is ultimately going to serve his story.” But Walter White is the protagonist of Breaking Bad and Jimmy McGill is the protagonist of Better Call Saul and Kendall Roy is arguably the protagonist of Succession. And obviously it’s unfair to compare shows of that caliber to Cobra Kai, but do you see my point? In all of the above, the characters that orbit the protagonist are fully fleshed out people, equally complex and just as motivated by their own desires and history and traumas as the protagonist is. And yet still, ultimately, their characters do end up serving the protagonist’s arc, and the story as a whole. Because that’s what good writing is.
But increasingly, all the other characters in Cobra Kai have stopped behaving like actual people—especially the ones that pose any challenge for Johnny. Their feelings get stamped down in favor of removing Johnny’s obstacles towards happiness, which only winds up reducing Johnny’s own character in complexity and likability.
I watch Cobra Kai now and I don’t find any of these characters believable, maybe Johnny most of all, because the writers steadfastly refuse to let him face any real serious consequence for his actions. Instead, they have everyone falling over themselves to forgive him, repeatedly giving him a do over—a chance to right his wrongs without ever ever fully acknowledging the hurt and pain he’s caused. This season, quite literally in the form of a new baby. And if that’s the story they want to tell, well fine. It’s their story to tell. But they can’t keep pretending like this is a redemption story, that there’s anything deeper beneath the surface of this show than just being about a guy who does karate and kicks ass and gets the girl and defeats the Big Bad of the week. This is not a story about trauma, Johnny’s or anyone else’s. It’s really not about anything at all anymore.
#cobra kai season 5#s5 spoilers#throwing in a baby is maybe the cheapest trick in the book when it comes to writing#its so so so so so so so so so stupid#and the fact that robby AND miguel aren’t allowed to have conflicted enotions about this—theyre happy for him and were supposed to see that#signals character growth#thats just so beyond#your deadbeat dad suddenly having a new kid is hard. youre allowed to FEEL thing about that#and being inextricably tied to the kid who almost killed you? thats also hard#they threw in a baby as a cheap and easy way to get all these characters on the same page#and its lazy and boring not to mention spits in the face of everything this show originally claimed to be about#not to mention the idea that carmen would WANT to have a baby with a chronic alcoholic who shes been dating for less than a year#who she’s barely even KNOWN for a year#but what are women if not baby factories right? :)#but whatever!#and the thing is. daniel this season was the kost believable character of them all. because his actions DO have consequences. again and#again and again he is challenged with the consequences of his actions#and forced to examine whether hes making the right choices#but johnny NEVER is#and in the process theyre trying to retcon and reframe the mistakes he HAS made over the past 4 seasons#as trying to be something less severe than they were#you don’t have to water down the deoth of johnnys flaws to make him a likable character!#in fact doing that just literally makes him unlikeable#and it doesnt evade me that daniels writing being at its best happens to coincide with thebseason where he poses zero challenge to johnny#but whatever!!! its fine its fine its fine#ck negativity

Going into his first year at SEAU, Jeremy thought that he knew what he was getting himself into… that he had a pretty good understanding of the many horrors that he’d have to put up with while living on campus. All throughout his high school years, he’d heard about the countless humiliation rituals that the upperclassmen would put the new freshman through, to welcome them to college. Every day, there were at least a dozen new stories.
So many students were put through horrific “trials” — things like surviving in the woods at night, naked and alone… getting their heads flushed in all the dirtiest toilets on the campus, until their lungs were liquified and their hair smelled like potty-water… eating the disgusting foods that the upperclassmen would make, using stuff that they found in the garbage bins… and so much more. Trials were just part of the culture… more innocent than they were harmful… and, with the mandatory first-year stay policy being strictly enforced, “Froshies” were always the most populated class; that made them easy targets.
After graduating high school, Jeremy immediately set his sights on SEAU and applied to enroll in the following fall semester, knowing full-well that he’d be put through hell during his first year on campus. It was a risky decision, but he didn’t care. SEAU was located in the heart of his hometown, just across the river from his parents’ house… and with his transcripts looking the way that they did, it would’ve been riskier for him to go any farther than that for schooling. Like so many of the other kids in his town, SEAU was his only choice for higher education… at least, the only realistic choice. It was either SEAU, or he’d have to go work a hard job at the shipyard…
_________________________________
Before Jeremy knew it, the first day of school had already come and gone. He was officially a college student! The first in his family to continue his education past the twelfth grade.
He had no clue what career he wanted to pursue yet… but, nevertheless, he was happy to be there. Walking through the halls made him feel powerful… like he was a real adult, making his way in the world. He was studying his core curriculum — math, science, english, and economics — making new friends, eating delicious foods, and living in his own dorm.
Every weekend, he’d visit his family across the river, and be showered with praise and affection. His parents were so proud of their little boy, for pursuing a higher education… even if he wasn’t going to the best school in the state. Him living so close by made his mother feel like she still had her baby in her arms, and his father liked that he could still watch football with him on Sundays. They couldn’t have been happier!
Things were looking up… that is, until Jeremy was ambushed with his first freshman trial…
_________________________________
The day started out like usual. Jeremy woke up in the afternoon, put on his baggiest pair of pajama pants, bathed himself with cheap body spray, threw on some open-toed sandals, an even bunchier hoodie, and left for class.
He was planning to meet up with one of his buddies before class, and hang out in the student lounge for a while. The guy was in his junior year at SEAU, and Jeremy had only known him for a few weeks… but he seemed cool enough. Mitchell was his name, but everyone called him “Tuck.”
Jeremy strolled up to the building and swiped his ID card at the door… but, unbeknownst to him, when he stepped into the lobby, he walked right into a trap.
_________________________________
Alright, guys… where should I go with this story? Jeremy is about to experience his very first trial… and his belly is about to be pushed to it’s limits. Should our little freshman get pregnant, or have his belly stuffed with food?

Missing in Action 7
Chapter 7: Dream Team
Scout doesn’t like the fact that he misses his old man.
TW: Angst
Jeremy was surrounded by his rabid brothers. Frankie, Arthur, Henry and Jonas were all showing off how much better their civilian jobs were, and their wives, and their reading skills. He kept getting long-winded, wordy diplomas and essays shoved in his face and making it hard to breathe. They also would not stop loudly ranting about the stock market and how expensive their weddings were.
Pete, Kevin and Danny were pushing and shoving through the never ending paper and nerd arms, tryin to act like real ****; but he wasn’t paying much attention to them. He was payin real close attention to the fact that they were pressing in on him with their bodies and papers, makin it real Claus-try-fo’-bick. He couldn’t get out of the sweaty ring of siblings who were sucking up all the air just to say how much better they were than him. He was gonna suffocate at this rate.
There was a loud rumbling earthquake, and everyone’s feet lifted off the ground for a second. Then it happened again and again. His brothers scrambled away, which gave him time to breathe, but he wasn’t ready to avoid whatever was makin the earthquakes.
A big pair of fancy shoes -belongin to a giant that was towering up so high you couldn’t see his face- stopped a couple hundred feet in front of him. His brothers did nothing to help him, squawking over their precious paper trophies.
The giant’s big leather gloved hand reached down and pinched the back of Jeremy’s shirt between his pointer finger and thumb, and pulled him up into the air. He was set down in the giant’s other hand, which was cupped a little to keep him from fallin. The first hand also got cupped, in case one wasn’t enough.
The big hands lifted him higher and higher until he was face to face with Spy, who was really freakin big for some reason. Hell, if his brothers had the guts to try and scale one of his legs, it’d probably take them 2 days to reach one of his knees. Assuming they knew anything about rock climbing.
He was being held like… not an egg, people don’t hold eggs like they’re valuable. Maybe like… if Ma or Pauling got shrunk down, and he didn’t want em to get squished? Either way, big Spy started to walk away from the annoying brothers, and Jeremy could breathe pretty well even that high up.
Suddenly he was a little baby again, who had clearly been cryin for a hot minute, because there was snot dripping down his face. Spy plopped down in an armchair and wiped the baby snot off him with a tissue. Then he grabbed a baby blanket and wrapped Jeremy up in it.
It was warm and comfortable, made even better by the fact that he was held up to Spy’s shoulder and small enough to lay his head down in the crook of his neck. He curled up there, not paying any attention to the cigarette smoke smell or his loud toddler brothers running around the living room.
And then he woke up.
It was the second night in a row where he had a stupid dream about Spy being good. This one wasn’t even a memory, and Scout still remembered it in every little detail.
He hated the fact that he kept having these dreams. Spy left him and Ma behind for 20 years, stuck with his annoying gang-rat brothers and the kids at school that loved to boast about their dads. He spent 7 years not telling him the truth. And he was going to let them hang in Teufort without telling him for another 6 months.
And he was gone. Again. After promising he’d be back like a dirty liar. Spy didn’t deserve these rose-tinted dreams. If it was so easy for him to not care about Jeremy after all that, he should stop caring too.
Why’d he have’ta keep caring?
Dream Spy had carried him way better than Saxton Hale. Hale slung him like a cheap bag of potatoes and let him flop around as he galloped through the jungle. Scout felt his hard muscular arm digging into his stomach and almost threw up. And then, he got smacked around like a baseball bat.
But dream Spy wasn’t real, was he? Real Spy left him alone in the jungle like a coward, and Hale grabbed him from there.
Jeremy got up fast and shoved his clothes on. He stalked off towards the training room so he could punch something and stop thinking about it.
He remembered the ride back from the crappy Yeti theme park. Spy sat his stuck up *** right next to him like he didn’t turn invisible and leave him to go through all that.
The door was locked.
Scout was all beat up from being slammed into the Yeti like he wasn’t a human, hitting straight muscle at full force. Medic had patched him up some, but had to focus on Soldier because getting your spine snapped in half was a way bigger issue. His head was pounding and he felt sore all over.
The door was locked.
Spy tapped him on the shoulder, and made sure he was watching. Then he pulled his arm out, balled his hand into a hard fist, and punched himself square in his big nose. Spy’s head snapped against the back of his chair from the force of the blow, and he got a wicked bloody nose out of it.
Stop it.
Scout could hear himself stupidly getting concerned over Spy being hurt. Askin why he did that like it wasn’t a distraction.
Why is this **** door locked?!
“That’s for leaving you with Mr Hale. I’dve let you hit me, but you aren’t at full strength right now.”
“LIAR! It’s an act! It’s all an act with you!” Jeremy slammed his fist into the hard metal training room door and plunked his head against it. He cried out angrily.
“Scout? ‘Re you alright lad?” Demoman was starin at him, and all ready for fight too, since he was suited up with his bombs and safety pads. He must have made it sound like an emergency or somethin.
“Oh hey! Yeah, I uh… sorry.” Demo looked concerned. “‘Eard you had a bad phone call yesterday. The new Spy wouldn’t tell us exactly who it was but eh.. he said not to let ‘em Bostonian guys call ye again.”
Word had spread that fast? Well, new Spy had threatened his brothers with the scarier teammates existing. It made sense he’d want the others on board with what he said.
“Yeah, I um.. I got some crappy brothers. Always stressin Ma.. I think they stole her phone to make that call actually.” Demoman did a double take. “Them Boston brats were yer brothers? Spy said they were right cruel wit ye..” Scout tried to shrug.
“Well, those three are the worst of em.. The gang members. They think they’re real ****, acting like that n makin Ma worry… Y’know?” Truth be told, Jeremy never imagined he’d be sharing this stuff with his teammates; but now that some of the cat was out of the bag, he didn’t seem to have it in him to be secretive.
”Well, me ‘n the rest o’ the team’ ll keep an eye out for ‘nother call like that. None o us want ye to get mocked by losers again. Medic actually volunteered to scare em off if they try another stunt.”
Medic was up in arms about it?! Scout expected Demoman, Engineer and maybe Heavy to be cool with threatening his brothers, but Medic? He felt.. relieved in a way. Even though he knew the team wouldn't fire him now.
————————
None of the teammates were happy about some losers making fun of Scout for not having a dad, but by far the worst reaction came from Medic. He was seething with rage and everyone could see the bloodlust in his eyes. Heavy and Engineer hastily took him to MedBay to calm him down with the doves. Younger Spy looked terrified that he might have sent death on those clowns on the first warning.
Dr Ludvig knew a great deal about loss. He was from Europe after all, the land torn apart by two World Wars. The land of the Lost Generation. He also knew a great deal about his teammates.
Those spoiled American brats didn’t care to know about others and their loss. Not if they knew Scout and still chose to mock his father’s absence. Mikhal had lost his father to the Soviet Regime, had to raise his family. He was better at hiding it, but his rage burned against those boys too. Even if Scout didn’t know it, Spy would not have left him behind again. Heavy’s father wouldn’t have left if he could help it.
Sniper and Demoman’s foster parents wouldn’t have left them if they could help it. Sniper’s wouldn't have wished for him to meet his birth parents if they had known how scummy they were. Demoman’s foster parents wouldn’t have wished his alcoholism or strange, toxic family traditions on him.
Soldier was raised by feral raccoons from the time he was very small to the age of 7. Nobody knew who his parents were; if they’d died tragically or dumped him in the woods. The Americans tried to civilize him and were never very successful at it. It was something he didn’t speak about, but Medic had been curious about why he was not allowed in the military and had an iron stomach.
And then there was war. And the regimes. War that killed young men before they could become fathers, regimes that killed young and old for petty and hateful reasons.
In WWII, Medic targeted the important party members and not their underlings, for a very good reason. Many were brainwashed or pretending to be for their own and their family’s safety. He only wished starvation on the people in charge of the secret death camps, not the random foot soldiers who died as prisoners of war. In America more of them were taken care of well and allowed to live peacefully, in Europe they were not. Not fed well. Never to go home. Hell, Berlin was split down the middle.
The anger Ludvig felt against the three boys from Boston was close to his anger with Classic Team. There was a difference between being forced to be hateful and choosing it of your own free will. He didn’t hate the BLU teams they fought here; that Spy head would have been mutilated if he did. He stayed a mercenary because he knew he was insane and not fit to treat civilians.
But Scout’s enemies were hateful to civilians and their so-called friend by choice. And he hated them for it.
———————-
Antoine made a decision. He felt depression and lowness, but so did the team Scout. The team was missing a Spy and he felt their worry. So as much as he didn’t feel happy, he would pretend. He remembered better times and the silly things he used to do in battle. Today’s battle was too soon after his arrival for him to join; the Admin had not been alerted to him by the desert team.
But Scout -who had hurt his hand punching the locked training room door- and the scary Medic could get their frustrations out in the fight today. And he would be there to play the cheerful one and lighten the mood of the desert team.
Even if it killed him.

Change Your Ticket
Pairing: Danny Wagner x Female Reader
Warnings: None
It’s Danny’s birthday enjoy this one shot based on the One Direction Song if you were wondering
Your alarm started going off, and you cursed when you saw it was already somehow 5:45am and time to get up. Your flight didn’t leave for a few hours, but it was a holiday weekend, you were anxious about getting to the airport in time, and you wanted to leave earlier than probably necessary. You also still had to get all your stuff packed up. You’d been on the road with your boyfriend’s band the past week, and when you had to choose between packing your stuff when you got back to the hotel after the show or getting laid for the last time until the tour ended in two months, the decision was easy. You tried to get out of bed without waking him, but it was nearly impossible seeing as you were about as tangled as two people could be.
“Y/n, are you up already?” Danny said next you, definitely still half asleep.
“Yeah babe, I have to pack remember?” You turned on your phone’s flashlight, not wanting to turn on the overhead light, though you still needed to find something to put on. Unable to figure out where the clothes you wore to the show last night went (they’d been off not even 5 minutes after getting into the room), you grabbed Danny’s shirt off the floor after your foot had become tangled in it.
“It’s still dark, come back to bed.”
“Baby, I can’t, I have to pack and take a shower. Go back to bed, you have another show tonight and we probably don’t have to leave til like 7:30, maybe 8 depending on traffic.”
At this point, Danny was awake enough to give you puppy dog eyes in an attempt to get you to come back to bed. “Then you have time, please? I won’t see you til April”
“Don’t remind me, I’m actively choosing to ignore that for as long as I can. Can I turn this lamp on? I can’t see shit.”
“Fine. Will you come back to bed when you’re finished?” As he said this, he reached out of the bed and you're just close enough that his fingers brushed against your bare thigh.
“Ok, ok, you’ve convinced me. I do still have to take a shower if you wanna come?”
The minute you said that he was suddenly much more awake and on his way out of bed.
“I knew that would work,” you laughed as he followed you to the bathroom.
“Jesus, does this hotel not have hot water,” you complained after waiting for the water to heat up for a solid couple of minutes.
“Probably not, this place is honestly terrible.” He was right, they’d played in a bigger city last night, making hotel rooms more expensive, which meant less of a budget for your room.
“This place is kind of a shithole, you’re right. Oh well, I feel absolutely disgusting from last night.”
“Don’t worry, I think I can help.” You threw Danny’s shirt into his suitcase before climbing into the shower, wincing as the water hit your skin. It was lukewarm at best, and it didn’t help it was the dead of winter.
“Fuck, this is freezing. Danny, you wanna get in here?”
Just then the curtain slid open and he climbed in behind you, arms immediately wrapping around your waist. He was always so warm, your personal space heater, and you instantly felt more comfortable. You leaned back against his chest, closing your eyes and letting the water wash over you. You could have stayed like that, but you were pulled back a few minutes later when you felt Danny’s arms break contact with your skin.
“Wait, come back here, I need your warmth.”
“Hold on, I’m getting your shampoo”
“It’s fine, I’m good to just rinse off,” you said, holding your arms out.
“Y/n, you said your hair smelled like booze last night because that asshole at the bar spilled his drink on you. I love you, but you’re right, your hair smells like cheap vodka.”
“I don’t remember you having any complaints last night,” you rolled your eyes.
“Babe, just let me spoil you while I can.” You relented, returning to your place against just chest.
“What if you didn’t leave today?” Danny asked as he worked his fingers through your hair.
“I have to, baby. Trust me, I wish I didn’t have to.”
“You don’t work again til Tuesday though, right?”
“Right, but by the time I get home tonight, it’ll be a long day. I have a seven hour layover in like, Texas or somewhere that isn’t at all on the way to Nashville from here. And then I have a house full of things I put off before I left that I now have to do. Besides, you think i can change my flight if it’s in 5 hours?”
“Don’t think it hurts to try. What if you could come with us tonight and see if you can fly out of Detroit tomorrow.”
The rational side of you thought better of this. First of all, there probably weren’t even any flights you could get in at this point, and if there were, it would probably be a little out of your price range to do so. You knew you also had a million and one things you’d put off for “future y/n” and now it was the future. Then there was the part of you that ached at the thought if not seeing your boyfriend for two months and wanted any extra time with him no matter what it took.
“I don’t know, babe. Will you guys have room for me in the van? I know you didn’t expect me to be here after today and Jita’s getting in today”
“Babe, we have room trust me - we’ve finally made it big enough that we have space for an extra person on the road”
“Oh.” You were now closer to being convinced.
“Will you at least look into it before you say no?” Danny had moved on from your hair and was now lathering soap on you, stopping at the point between your shoulder blades that he knew got you every time.
“Fine, as soon as we get out, I’ll look. I don’t wanna get either of our hopes up this late in the game though. But before that, it’s your turn, you have that after-show musk,” you laughed as you turned around and started running your shampoo through his hair.
“I don’t remember you complaining last night.”
“Touché” after you’d both finished cleaning up, you leaned into his chest one last time before moving to turn off the water.
“I really hope you can stay,” he said as he ran his fingers up and down your back.
“We should probably get out and look into it.” You climbed you out the shower, threw on a towel, and went back to the bed where your phone was charging. You pulled up your flight information and prayed you could find anything you could afford.
“Baby! I think I found something - red eye Monday night, I could come to your show in Detroit tonight, you guys don’t have a show tomorrow and we can spend the entire day together, and this flight leaves at 11:55pm. Should I do it?”
“You have to ask?” Danny was now sitting behind you on the bed, pushing you wet hair aside and placing light kisses up your neck.
“Hold on, lemme make sure this all works,” you reached up so your hand was in his hair. You were trying to brush his lips aside until you’d gotten this taken care of, but he didn’t make it easy.
“And…done! You’ve got me for almost two more days babe”
“You know what that means right?”
“Hm?”
“We have a little more time now that I don’t have to take you to the airport before we get on the road.”
“Oh yeah?”
“Mhmm” Danny had buried his head in your neck now, his hand running up and down your thigh. You turned around and he instantly pulled you towards him so that you were straddling his lap. He very quickly leaned back, pulling you with him.
“I’m so glad you’re not leaving.”
“Me too, thank you for talking me into it.”
“I can be very convincing,” he said, going in for a quick kiss. “I love you so much, y/n”
“I love you too, so fucking much…now let’s put this shitty hotel bed to good use one last time before we check out”

JJ Maybank x Kiara Carrera (1.5k) JJ doesn’t turn down a dare, not ever. Right?
JJ Maybank wasn’t a fan of games.
Not the kind you played at parties, anyway. Even as a kid, he found things like musical chairs and pass the parcel stupid. Who wanted to wait to watch someone else open a gift? Especially one their parents could afford anyway. And what was the point in doing all that running for a seat if he was gonna get in trouble when he fought for it in the end?
And when he got older and stronger and braver and stupider, he found that the novelty of truth or dare wore off pretty quickly too. JJ never was a fan of telling the truth. The truth tended to be quite boring, unless you knew the right questions to ask. So he always picked dare and that grew old too, because JJ never turned down a dare, never said no. He bore the scars and bruises and had the stories to tell after each one, boasting and bragging about jumping from the highest cliff until there weren’t any left for him to climb.
But then one night when the tide was out and the summer had gone on too long, had grown too thick and sticky, some kid he’d once known from Mrs Peterson’s chemistry class chugged a beer, threw the empty can at his feet and dared him to kiss Kiara Carrera.
Even if they hadn’t made that stupid rule back in middle school, JJ was pretty sure kissing one of your best friends was pretty risky business. So he looked to John B and Pope, watched as they both hid their grins behind their drinks and shrugged and JJ suddenly felt like his cheeks were hotter than the sun.
Sarah was by her boyfriend, sitting on the sand between his bent knees and she was grinning, she was gloating and she took way too much joy in telling him and the rest of the group, “you don’t back down from a dare, do you, JJ?”
JJ narrowed his eyes at her, baring his teeth in what was supposed to be a smile but the girl knew differently.
“You know the script, Cameron,” he tried to sound casual, he tried to sound unaffected, but his gaze was wandering and trying to find the head of dark curls he’d last seen at the shore line. “No pogue on pogue macking.”
“Didn’t take you for one to follow the rules,” she shot back, still beaming.
“You could always pass,” the other kid said, smug and smirking at the rest of his friends, already pushing out his chest at the idea of finally getting JJ Maybank to turn down a dare. “Pick truth, you know, the easy way out.”
So JJ downed his beer, cheap and probably stolen and warmed from the lingering sun, and he pushed off of the tree he’d been leaning on to a chorus of whistles and cheers. It was never easy to walk steadily in sand but he did his best to keep his head held high and his shoulders squared as he pressed past the rest of the crowd.
Drunk people, high people, dancing people and people he didn’t know. People from out of town, people from the wrong side of town, people who got too close and tried to steal his attention with bubblegum scented chapstick and the promise of something more behind the old fish shacks.
He didn’t let his eyes stray from the girl at the edge of the beach, bare feet in the shore. Kie had left her sandals and her bottle of beer near a rock and JJ already knew she was following the prints in the wet sand, tiny scuff marks that told her the cluster of baby turtles she’d been watching had finally made their way home.
“Any stragglers?” He called out to her when he was close enough.
Kiara’s head shot up at the familiar voice, the edge in her eyes that told JJ she’d been on guard quickly fading away at the sight of him. She smiled, shrugging, bashful as if she’d been caught doing something embarrassing.
“None that I can see,” she told him. Kie toed at the wet sand, waiting for the boy to stand by her side like she knew he would. “Which is good. Gotta make sure everyone takes their trash home with them though, I’m so sick of picking up beer caps. Do you know that eighty percent of—”
“You gonna kill my buzz with the rest of that sentence?” JJ interrupted knowingly. He said with a lazy smile, his usual charm and flirt and Kie knew by now not to take too much offence to it.
Still, she rolled her eyes but she didn’t continue, her shoulder knocking his as she let her gaze flicker over his face. He looked a little off, a little lost in thought with pink cheeks and guarded eyes.
There was no drink in his hand, no pre-rolled joint tucked behind an ear.
“What’re you doing down here?” The girl asked. “The keg's back that way.”
JJ snorted, squinting out to the sea before running a hand through his already messy hair. He could feel his heartbeat rattle his bones and he was sure his cheeks matched the colour of the water by now, the sky above too. A rosy, hazy pink-red, an almost scarlet at the horizon as the last of the light sunk into the sea.
“What? M’not allowed to come say hi?” JJ huffed, all faux dramatics and offence. “Real nice of you Kie.”
Kie didn’t answer, she just kept looking at him, brows raised. A sweep of the beach told her enough, the rest of her friends huddled around a pile of wind-worn logs with some kids she once knew from school. They were all staring, waiting, whispering and passing what looked like money into each other's palms.
“You have an audience,” she murmured, looking back out to the sea. The waves were turning cotton candy with the setting sun, frothy pink amongst the blue. “Are they expecting a show?”
JJ shrugged, lips downturned and his nonchalant act started to slip. Kie’s arm brushed against his, bare skin on bare skin and the wind carried the smell of sea salt and the girl’s sunscreen.
Coconut, peach and something else that reminded him of an afternoon spent on a surfboard.
“Nah,” he drawled. He wrinkled his nose, tried not to look at her for fear of giving everything away. His task, his act, his feelings. “Just another dare.”
Kiara gave a soft snort and looked back over her shoulder at the group. Sarah waved, a wiggle of her fingers that Kie returned with confusion. “What’s the dare, Jay?”
Silence. Heavy and warm like the summer and it lingered between them in the same way.
“Something stupid.”
Kie raised a brow. “Like, you might get hurt, stupid?”
JJ turned then, swallowing the nervous lump in his throat, swallowing the lie with it. “No,” he murmured. Kie found his gaze, smiling and confused, her brow crinkled. “Maybe,” the boy conceded.
“That’s only slightly concerning,” Kiara joked but she moved a little closer all the same, shoulder bumping JJ’s as the tide touched her toes. “What is it this time? Jumping off that cliff at Rixon’s? Stealing Shoupe’s lawn furniture?”
JJ laughed and shook his head, careful not to move even closer, because if he did, the back of his hand would touch the girls and then it might have not been able to hold his cool for much longer. He could feel Sarah’s eyes on the back of his head. “Nah, nothin’ like that, don’t worry.”
So Kie waited, expectant, the silence filled with the sound of the water and the muffled music that came from way back by the treeline, where the greenery met the sand, an old Bluetooth speaker that came from god knows where. She watched JJ while she stood, the slight breeze that only came out at night picking at strands of their hair. The boy turned golden in the last of the sun, his bottom lip tucked between his teeth and he worried at it, wondering what to say next.
“I feel— I feel like it’s one of those things, this dare,” JJ coughed, voice breaking a little with nervousness. “I feel like I should do it because I want to, y’know? Not because someone else told me I should.”
Kie wasn’t sure what to take from that, what to say. She wasn’t sure at all what kind of dare would elicit this type of reaction from JJ but the boy’s eyes were flitting across her features, searching for something she wasn’t sure he’d be able to find.
“It sounds like it’s something worth waiting on then,” she finally said. Kie licked at her lips, suddenly self conscious. She took note of how her friend watched the movement. “Like something you should do for yourself.”
And JJ couldn’t find it in himself to disagree, dare be damned. He’d take the loss, head still held high and shoulders squared as he made his way back across the sand to the group. He wouldn’t call it a defeat, not when Kiara was walking by his side, shoulder bumping his as she laughed at one of his bad jokes.
He’d wait. He’d waited long enough.
He could wait a little more.

₊˚ʚ ᗢ₊˚✧ ゚.
“give it up for eddie munson, a free man at last!” robin yelled, holding her glass up in the air as everyone cheered.
“i was in jail for two days.” eddie said, sipping his beer.
“it was the worst two days of my life.” you pouted, putting your head on his shoulder.
“yeah cause fighting interdimensional monsters is so fun.” steve said, rolling his eyes.
“don’t be such an anti-cupid, steve.” nancy teased.
“yeah,” robin said. “young love is beautiful.”
“hear that, baby?” eddie asked you, pecking you on the cheek. “we’re in love.”
“‘course we are.” you said. “i wasn’t gonna call up my asshole cousin to get harrington out of jail.”
“woah, woah.” steve protested. “what is it? hate on steve day?”
“no, that’s february 4th.” robin said.
“that’s your birthday, robin.”
“i’m assuming you won’t get me anything, so i took matters into my own hands.”
“you’re so — ”
the two began arguing as an annoyed nancy got up to escape to the bathroom, leaving you and your boyfriend virtually alone.
“thank you.” eddie said. “i don’t think i would’ve been here if it wasn't for you.”
“don’t thank me, eds.” you said. “i was lying before, i would’ve done it for anyone. including steve.”
“i’m not talking about the lawyer,” he said, turning around to face you completely. “i mean, that was really fuckin’ helpful, and i immensely thank you for that, but i’m just talking about in general. believing me ‘n shit.”
“i’ll always believe you.”
“yeah, you say that, and i’m really flattered, but i’m just saying it would’ve been really easy to not believe me. But you still did, and you got everyone else on board… if you didn’t then i probably would’ve been face down in a ditch, bludgeoned to death by the basketball team or something.”
“i’ll always believe you, eddie.” you repeated, cupping his face in your hands. “even when it’s crazy, or unbelievable, or if everyone else in the world doesn’t – i’ll always be right here.”
he smiled, his cheeks squishing in your hands. “i think you’re way too good for me.”
“so i’ve heard.” you laughed. “i missed you so much.”
“can’t go two days without me, baby?”
“after all this shit,” you said, “i can’t go two minutes without you.”
“‘m not opposed to that.” he said, releasing his face from your hands and resting his head in your neck. “you can’t get mad at me for blastin’ my music at 2 am when you’re tryna sleep, though.”
you grimaced. “maybe i’ll just sleep at my parent’s house.”
he whined dramatically, the vibrations on your skin giving you goosebumps. “fine, but you’ve gotta listen to somewhere in time with me, ‘kay?”
“i guess they say love’s all about sacrifice...”
“that reminds me.” he said, looking back up in your eyes. “i love you too.”
“was waitin’ for that.” you smiled, pressing your lips against his. what started as a teethy, chaste kiss turned deeper when he slid his tongue in your mouth.
“woah, gross!” robin yelled, pulling the two of you out of your moment.
“thought you were pro-love today, what happened?” you asked.
“that was before i saw eddie’s tongue enter your mouth.” she said, fake gagging. “now i’m disturbed.”
“that’s a funny way of sayin’ you’ve never been frenched before.” eddie said, laughing at his own joke.
“gross.” robin mumbled. “dudes are gross.” nancy laughed and threw her arms around her, patting her shoulder in reassurance.
“mmhmm,” you said, the cheap beer you were drinking finally hitting your head at you leaned into eddie for another kiss. “let’s show ‘em how it’s done, munson.”
he smiled and kissed you again, dramatically ramming his tongue into your mouth over and over until he could hear steve and robin’s cries for them to stop.

baby steps: noah marshall x mc
937 words. plotless. tw: mc is getting used to eating solid food again after being saved.
“So this is the famous french dip with au jus that I’ve heard so much about,” you grin, teasing Noah.
“You remember that,” he blushes.
You sniff, unsure about this. You’d been on a liquid diet for ages since coming back. It had been Tom and Connor’s plan since you threw up from fries. Keeping down food had been hard at first. Remembering to eat. Being alive was hard. It was shitty how hard the adjustment was after being a disembodied shadow for so long.
“You can just have the au jus if you don’t think you're ready,” Noah offers, leaning on the counter next to you. He’d cut the sandwich in half.
You take a deep breath, “I never want to have bone broth again,” you scowl, sick of it. Sick the lack of texture. “‘Sides,” you reach out for Noah’s hand, “how else am I gonna taste test the Baby Jane menu?”
“I still have to sign the lease,” Noah reminds you.
“Oh please,” you wave off, “they’d be crazy not to give you the place. Lot’s been empty since we were kids. I’m actually surprised it’s still standing, and right on the highway too.” Westchester was a small town. People only drove by on their way to New York City.
You pick at the sandwich first, tearing a piece of bread. “I still can’t believe you know how to bake.”
“It’s really easy,” Noah points out. “Salt. Flour. Yeast. Bread flour is the game changer. Not that all purpose stuff.”
You stick your tongue out at him.
“Don’t knock it till you try it.” The asshole winks at you.
You kick him lightly.
Then you have to pause to wiggle your toes. You had toes again.
You pinch your arm.
Yup. Still here. Alive.
You pop the piece of bread into your mouth.
“Mm.” Oh fuck it was good. Light and fluffy. You’d forgotten what chewing was like. Better than the store bought white bread that stuck to the roof of your mouth. Still, you tease Noah, “not bad.”
Noah puts a hand over his chest, “that’s it.”
You laugh at him, “okay. It’s really good. I’m surprised you don’t have your own starter.”
“I do actually,” Noah tells you, “gotta save that for the grilled cheese later. It’s mind blowing.”
You giggle. It was adorable how into cooking Noah could get. You didn’t know the difference between tri-tip and sirloin but you could listen to Noah go one about it for hours. You liked watching him move around the kitchen, shredding cheese and sauteing vegetables.
You had a newfound appreciation for the mundane. Anytime spent with Noah was special to you.
Next, you pull out a piece of the thinly sliced beef, popping it into your mouth before you chicken out.
It was. . .you chew, unable to place the flavor. . .you remember the cold seeping into your body, the wind going right past you, the smell of iron and rot and dirt in your jaw. . .
You grip the counter, swallowing the bite. You hope it stays down. You can practically feel it crawling down your throat, landing in your stomach with a heavy thud.
It felt wrong.
Eating, being solid-
It was so hard to get used to.
Stay down, you tell yourself. It was a tiny bite.
You were sick of pedialyte and strained chicken broth. You could do this. You’d managed to keep your sanity through it all, you could do anything.
“You okay,” Noah squeezes your hand.
You nod, “yeah. It’s nothing just…give me a moment.” It was hard to be human again.
“Maybe you should stick to bread? If it’s easier.”
He was so sweet. Noah who never left your side when you needed him most, who gave you all the space you needed to recover, who made you laugh when you felt like shattering. Noah Marshall who made it all worth it.
“No.” You insist, “Let me try another piece,” you decide when the slice of beef doesn’t give you nausea. When you manage to keep the bite down, you decide to have another.
This time you focus on the cheap particle board bar top in Noah’s tiny home. The entire neighborhood was rundown, but quiet. There were never any issues except the neighbors sunday get together that would go on until 2 in the morning.
Secretly you liked hearing the noise. It gave you something to focus on when you woke up from another nightmare back in that place.
You rip another piece with your fingers.
This time it’s juicy, the beef tearing to pieces easily. You lack the words, barely remembering food enough but it’s good. It’s a lot like deja vu, the flavor of beef was familiar but you couldn't remember how.
“I like it,” you tell Noah.
“Does it live up to expectations?” He flicks your nose.
You flip him off. “Company could be better.” You tear another piece of bread off. Small bites. You could do small bites. “I like getting to chew.” It sounds insane. “Fuck, that’s sad.” You slump in the bar stool.
“No,” Noah reassured you, “it’s cute.”
“Liar.”
“I’m not lying.”
“Okay,” you scrunch your nose up, “so we’re both pathetic.”
“Maybe,” Noah grins.
You laugh, covering your mouth with your hand.
Maybe you two were sad losers barely working on getting GEDs after flunking high school for supernatural reasons, but you wouldn’t want to be with anyone else. Things as simple as doing the dishes was tons of fun when you got to flick soap bubbles at Noah.
“So when do I get to try the grilled cheese?”

too sick to draw or do anything else which means its the perfect time to watch mca and be a little autistic nitpicky bitch about it. planning to do a post like this per episode, this one's for episode One. well episode one part one bc nothing in my life is easy and i keep forgetting theres a fucking image limit for posts 🙄
- I HATE THIS FUCKING ANIME ok i needed to get that off my chest...... groaned so loudly at the first four seconds fucking... Church Bells and POLES?!?!? POLES?!?!!! i hate shaft's enviromental choices ok moving on
- how the fuck did i not realize that ayano's VA is rena ryuugu lmfao its all i can hear nowadays
- right theyre on a fucking clock... for some reason.... also honestly i dont like ayano's voice that much. like the voice is fine but i dont think it fits ayano's character
- also this clock sucks i wish it was like more More you know more gears more machinery like ep12 insanity ok wait. are shinaya 3d models here lmfao.. maybe?
Tumblr media
- i like this line. saur mysterious
Tumblr media
- hahaha.... the Kaien Panzermast
Tumblr media
now that i think abt it i have no idea why its called kaien panzermast. like i what its referring to (the song siren thing thats telling kids to go tf home) but what the hell is a Kaien Panzermast?
- this scenery is near meaningless to kagepro literally just a whole bunch of nothing when i say i hate shaft's choices for this anime..... like what is any of this shit. also orange??!? orange of all colors..... god damn man
Tumblr media Tumblr media
like yes ok its the evening BUT THIS IS KAGEROU PROJECT. GIVE ME MY RED AND BLUE!
-- this part is cool tho. a bit too heavy handed in the symbolism but i appreciate the gesture
Tumblr media
- lol at this:
Tumblr media
BECAUSE SHE DIDNT! not until 2017 lmfao. this makes me suspect that the revelations from mr2 were initially supposed to be in the anime. but in the end for whatever reason it couldnt fit itself there, so the only revelation we got was The First Tragedy Exists. and no elaboration.... now that i think of it, iirc me and many fans were pretty thrown off from this opening back when it first aired cuz this was like, the first time we've seen ayano act like this. wait. let me check my timeline
Tumblr media
ok nvm lol. second time. first time shes ever like this is in the manga:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but anyways back in 2013/2014 before the LTM episode, there was like no context whatsoever for Why Is Ayano Like That. so that was a doozy
- damn can u imagine working on some songs writing a novel and getting these amazing voice actors to voice ur characters... ohhh i wouldnt know how to act
-HJEKHJSKDFHASJKDFH THIS LOOKS CHEAP AS HELL HELP ME
Tumblr media
i mean thats um. one way to show a timeline getting thrown away... I Guess. ignoring the fact that Mary Has Long Hair (which she shouldnt), its a cool visual idea but the execution is um... hfjkssjk
- hehe
Tumblr media Tumblr media
headphone actor mv on the left and mca countdown thingy on the right. holy shit they are near identical damn, i just thought they were similar but no, its practically identical. thats so cool T_T if only the rest of this anime was this cool.... whatever onwards i go
- shintaro's stupid futuristic high-rise apartment... i loathe thee
- the fuck is this
Tumblr media
- first instance of shaft's trademark of putting random shit on the screen and im already annoyed its gonna be bad for me for the rest of this rewatch if i can even last that long. i know i will at least til ep 10 (11???) cuz i need to see baby mekatrio
- no aku benci lmfao shaft hates to animate so much they threw this story into the future so they could just conveniently project things onto shintaro's cyberwall hahaha..... i fucking hate this anime
Tumblr media
- looks like shintaro was drawn by 4 different artists in these various shots that only span like 5 seconds
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
- damn in the anime its not even ene's fault that shintaro spilled the soda lmfao. thats all on him this time
- also shinene's voices are srsly perfect
- XX you say...... 🤨
Tumblr media
- storyboarding sucks shit they went from flashback to not a flashback to flashback again my fucking god dude. the only reason i can make sense of any of it is cuz im rewinding every little thing
- literally no reason to add 'roomie' to this translation but it made me laugh so I GUESS
Tumblr media
maybe i should hunt for the official crunchyroll subs. but im too lazy
- lmfao
Tumblr media Tumblr media
text from Mekakucity Talkers 24, translated by x0401x. only difference from tht and the screenshot is that shintaro still has hair lol
- hm. i wish it made a bigger deal of shintaro leaving the house. yeah he threw a fit but i wish the actual stepping outside aspect was more dramatic yknow. like how Children Record emphasized it
Tumblr media
- WHY IS THIS CITY SO EMPTY
- also curiously this episode is missing this sentence from shintaro abt someone rebuilding the city bit by bit which is in the novels and the manga, which is meant to foreshadow saeru's influence. but then again the first 17 manga chapters are taken nearly word-by-word from the novels so maybe thats all it is 🤷
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- also it took like 6 minutes for shintaro to leave the house... theres other things being done ofc, establishing shinene's dynamics, quick exposition of how ene ended up with shintaro to begin with, and spilling soda onto the computer and leaving the house. but i feel like it wouldve been better if the anime stuck to what the novels + mr1 does, where ene blares a loud fucking alarm. that quickly establishes shinene's dynamic and easily leads to a So You Must Be Wondering How I Got Here type of thing, and then knock over the soda leave the house bam easy. instead the anime really took its time with like..... idk making shinaro look ikemen. yeahhh not the best choice, especially considered how rushed the last few episodes are gonna be. ok back to watching the anime
- also aku benci x2 like its only futuristic when its convenient which is soo fucking Lazy. theres literally no reason for this story to be set in the future. like all this city scenery is based off actual modern day Kashiwa its just... ugh. barely any care put into this anime at all
- this anime is cool sometimes
Tumblr media
- reused this pencil texture from the start of the episode... wonder how many times ill be seeing that
- the fucking comedic timing of these terrorists lmfao. and right theyre clowns... for some reason....
- also dude ill still never understand why only their thumbs are the only parts ziplocked like what. also isnt that harder to animate... THIS STUPID ANIME
- this is a completely fair reaction to having kano shuuya speak to you for the first time
Tumblr media
- no the fuck he isnt he hasnt thought of shit my god.
Tumblr media
that comic person on here was not lying shaft really fucked up the order of events here bigtime. kano only speaks to shintaro after shintaro's done brooding.... also seto doing fuckall lol. ik he'll say smth in like 2 seconds but i do find it funny that we've seen him for like the past minute and he hasnt said shit
- ok but its cool that kano's hand just doesnt obey the ziplock.... very clever of the artists to just make him put his hands behind his head and other gestures to indicate that theres something up with him
- why are his eyes red.

You Fit Me
The floor was littered with old chewing gum and spilt, sticky puddles of alcohol when I lowered my gaze at my mechanically piloted feet. It was hot, too hot underneath my wig, too hot between these strange bodies. With nothing but numbness in my mind, I made my hips sway to the rhythm of the heavy beat, felt the base resonate in my chest and alter my perception as my nostrils filled with the scent of people's sweat, cheap liquor and the stale dampness of the fog machines.
My eyes wandered into the dark corners of the club, where hidden figures were locked in a passionate kiss or lived out their high with their mouths wide open as they gazed into the flickering lights. They were but quick illuminations of limbs and faces, pale picture frames of colourful people dancing to a heavy electronic beat. A hypnotic voice was singing and people upon people danced to it like they were in a trance. The air was thick and condensation threatened to drip from the ceiling. It was easy to be sucked into their midst, give in to the alluring promise of forgetful hedonism and just float into the river Styx. Float into another dimension while fate would handpick the gluttons who would descend into the third circle of hell.
What would Pedro say if he saw me like this? Not having fun and denying myself any peace. Was I pretending to push myself into a nihilist universe to chase fatalism and toxicity? A blind person would have been able to see it.
Maybe I wasn't drunk enough to stop my mind from constantly wandering back home and wane between regret and anger. However, I was intoxicated enough to tilt my head into the sticky air, close my eyes and remain in the eternal Asphodel meadows for a little while longer. I felt so alone yet free of all that I knew. An anonymous, ordinary soul drifting through the night.
My state in limbo felt complete until a slimy touch seized my hip and I was promptly forced to take a step away. "No!" My protest fell on deaf ears.
"C'mon, baby. You gotta try this!" A guy in a gay club of all places forced a shot on me. He waved a friend over who brought more glasses that were filled with some kind of dark liquid.
I batted his wandering hands away and yelled at him to leave me alone.
"Fucking fa-." I could read the slur from his lips before he took another leering step towards me. How easily his words shattered against the heavy armour I had braced my soul with.
"She said no, dickface! Fuck off!" A woman with rhinestone eyebrows stepped in. Her shrill voice was loud against the music and she shoved him away. She flipped the man off and cackled at the range of slurs he threw back at us. "You okay?" My saviour hollered in my direction once he'd left us alone on the dance floor.
"Yeah, thank you!" I yelled back. I had seen and gone through worse things. Infinitely worse. "I'm sorry-" I gestured aimlessly when everything became too much anyway. In an attempt to escape, I made my way through the crowd and to the bathrooms.
I had no clue how much time I spent trying to sober up inside the stall that was plastered with graffiti and scribbles. A stick figure lay horizontal with x's crossed over instead of their eyes and memories of last summer flashed through my mind. Overdosed eyes had glazed over into a blur and I recalled how scary it had been to not be able to move my body as I nearly choked on foam and vomit. In a hazy fever dream, Pedro had found me just in time and in the worst way possible. How terrified he'd been. How stupid I felt about the way I behaved again.
In my overwhelmed state, I kept ignoring my phone as it buzzed for the millionth time this night. Pedro's ID blinked up again, the pet name I gave him mocked me along with all the hearts we'd sent back and forth in our recent past. Such a stark contrast to his currently unanswered texts. I wasn't tone-deaf to their urgency.
01:34 - Baby, I just need to know if you're ok, then I'll let you do your thing. Promise
Can you please pick up?
02:04 - Where are you? I can come and pick you up, wherever you are. I'm not mad at you
02:11 - Please just tell me you're safe
02:50 - Leonie, this has to stop! You've made your point ok?
03:00 - I swear tfg, the least you could do is answer! You care at all??
03:01 - *(Angel deleted this message)*
03:02 - Pick up the fucking phone.
The last text, I imagined he had written before pulling his hair out in sheer frustration. A full stop. Yikes.
"Fuck." I whispered to myself.
Inside the filthy stall, I closed my hands over my eyes and slumped over with my elbows resting on my knees. I tried willing my cramp to go away or at least deal with the pain of heavy guilt setting into another part of my stomach. "I'm such a fucking fraud," I admitted to myself in a moment of clarity and regret. Impulsive and short-tempered Leonie van Fleet, the misophonic asshole who doesn't know what she's doing, everyone. Round of applause.
A voice in the stall next to mine ripped me out of my thoughts. "Does anybody have a tampon?" They asked obnoxiously above the dull sound of thumping music.
"I do! Hold up." I yelled back immediately, pondering on my last one and deciding giving it away would limit my time here but maybe having no other choice was a good thing. "I'll trade you for some toilet paper." I put my hands through the bottom of the stall door and crouched down, hoping I wouldn't lose my balance when chipped white nail polish met equally broken black polish as they grabbed for the tampon.
"Thank you so fucking much. My night is saved." They said, made the exchange and I felt dizzy when I decided to end my crisis and finish up myself. "No problem, that's what uterus pals are for." I slurred before flushing and walking up to the sink. I felt a little more drunk than I had originally thought.
"What was that you were saying?" The voice sounded nasal like it's been through quite a bit of crying before. "You're a fraud? What do you mean by that?"
Nosey, this one.
"I mean uh... I'm pretending to be this destructive version of myself. Or what am I doing here?" I was reeling with thoughts while washing my hands with barely existent soap. With no option to dry them in sight, I let the water drip as I stared at my reflection. A stranger stared back, a vision of everything gone wrong.
"Sounds like you've put a lot of thought into it." The voice ripped me out of my tunnel vision again.
I crossed my arms and the words somehow kept flowing out almost too easily. "I just keep making the wrong decisions," I spoke above the sound of the distant, thumping beat. "Just don't know why. Maybe just to punish myself for my perfect life." I narrated my unthought-through, impulsive actions and concluded my crisis with the afterthought of a selfish brat. "You know what? What's worse is that all I do is punish the person that matters to me most."
"Huh." The toilet flushed and out the stall came the same woman from earlier and a look of recognition washed over our faces. "Oh, it's you!" We burst out at the same time. She was of similar height, maybe in her early forties but it was impossible to say with that skincare routine she had going for her. Apart from the eccentric decorations on her face, she had black shiny hair and red-painted lips. "The self-punishment over a hypothetical would make sense if you think you might not deserve the positive things in your life. Have you been through some shit? Apologies for assuming-" She washed her hands messily and also noticed the lack of soap. "I'm drunk."
My brain caught up with her a second later. "Yeah, horrendous stuff." I dramatised in my tipsy state and leaned my weight against the neighbouring sink.
I lacked the ability to comprehend how she could have been so spot-on at first sight. Maybe my cry for help was painted above my head as obvious as the neon sign of this club. The woman spoke with an equal amount of compassion and anger. "Many of us have. Bullied and chased out of our homes. Fewer rights as a marginalised group. It's worse even for the trans community. So many places where you must have felt not accepted. I'm sorry, that had to be tough."
"I'm... Yes, that's true but I'm not trans." I informed her with a smile, amused she'd thought I was.
She froze like an elephant in a porcelain shop. "That wig-"
"It's a wig, yes." She had a fair point for assuming. It was a high probability in a queer scene club like this and my heavy makeup and a wig I hadn't even glued on.
"Well..." She grinned, making it obvious to me that my hairline was crappy enough for me to not pass as a woman. "Anyway then, your partner, she's the best thing in your life and you're emotionally dependent on her?" She asked before bending down and took a sip straight from the tap.
Feeling like such a fraud again, I suddenly felt ashamed. I was out of place. "He is. I hope I'm not but the truth is, I couldn't live without him. He's the best thing in my life." I corrected her and she coughed into the stream.
"Damn, I assumed you'd at least be part of the L in the alphabet mafia. What were the odds?" "No, it's fine. We're in a queer club so... I'm sorry for invading this space. I guess I just wanted a peaceful night out. Can't escape men anywhere though. Surprise." I chuckled at her before being serious again. "Karma. I haven't been treating my partner well these past couple of months." Suddenly admitting it felt devastating and my voice quivered so much, it made her turn her entire body and meet me with a worried frown. "I had a very abusive dad and I'm afraid, so fucking afraid I'm the abuser now." I was taken aback by my confession, for it was so unlike me to bring up my past, let alone to a stranger. However, there was something about this woman. Something so comforting and familiar, I had to reveal a well-hidden part of my life to an equally drunk stranger in a filthy bathroom.
Yet I received nothing but her entire attention and while her presence felt comforting, her voice was clear and cool as ice. "My best guess is you have tried to cope with everything yourself, depending on whatever distracted you and fed your love deprivation." She deducted.
I gaped at her. "How-"
"Do you mind?" She pulled a cigarette from a battered package and I shook my head 'no' when she offered me one. "I think I get it now. Wait for it-" She climbed onto the heater and blew smoke out of the tiny window. For a moment, she digested the first drag, smoking in a kind of club where nobody would bat an eye anyway. I felt like a lost little kitten, staring up at her with big hungry eyes. It nearly seemed she gathered information by scanning me from head to toe. "You have some kind of European accent, maybe you were new here at some point and lonely. You're a petite, pretty little thing with daddy issues in a queer club, still unable to escape that predatory behaviour from earlier. So in theory, you know how to protect yourself because you had trauma to deal with but you feel deep hurt all the time. Plus, a loving partner and a domestic fight, equals the fragile state you're in. Babe, you're trying to run away from happiness. It's called self-sabotage."
My throat hurt from having swallowed too hard. Mind completely blank from unadulterated surprise, I stuttered. "Self- self-sabotage... is that what this is?"
She clicked her tongue. "It's a behaviour that makes you think you have control over the negative outcome of your actions and be in charge of your pain. It's not real. You're just calming yourself with predictability." She had opened her arms like she had presented me with a magic trick and I was the stupified spectator who couldn't appreciate her art form. Although, what she said, sounded perfectly logical.
Impressed by her quick mind, I stood there with a frown between my brows while I took my time to process. "I was not expecting free therapy at three in the morning," I said numbly.
"Surprise." She grinned like a Cheshire cat despite the thin veil of tears that was still evident in her eyes.
"Are you in a psychological field of any kind? You seem so..." I tried to think of a better word than 'intelligent' and a kinder word than 'crazy yet wise. "Analytical."
She disposed of the burning cigarette through the crack in the window and hopped down to me. "Psychiatrist in crisis." She winked before turning to the mirror and giving her lips a fresh coat of red paint. A burst of frustration made her voice quiver. "But I have come to the realisation my work is fruitless in a world where people keep having normal fucking reactions to toxic post-capitalism. I'll never accomplish anything." She stopped doing her makeup to let go of her rage as she reenacted a conversation with one of her patients. "Oh, you're having a burnout and you live in a constant state of anxiety? You're a single mom working two jobs and you still can't pay rent let alone your medical bills but sure, you must have problems because Mercury is in retrograde." She was close to crying again and angrily tossed her lipstick into her purse. "I'm supposed to help people but all I see are unsolvable problems and stupid shit." She stared ahead in a nearly manic way and then breathed out like she was trying to get it out of her system.
Our tearful eyes locked in the mirror and I felt we had bonded in that moment. "I'm Giulia." My new companion introduced herself then.
"Nini." We shook hands and I came straight back to the point with something she said that had bothered me. "How did you know I have some unresolved issues?"
She didn't conceal an ironic smile. "You were talking to yourself in a bathroom stall. That's not a tough one to guess." She was right and my eyes started to become blurry before she interrupted me with a suggestion. "Wanna go outside? Dr Oswald will see you now." She offered with the grin of a siren who seemed to lure me in with a promising song of mental stability. After a short consideration, I sighed and nodded.
My path tonight had brought me to a club with a bright pink neon sign buzzing above its entrance. This hole-in-the-ground club's heavy electro-dance beat could only be revealed when its doors swung open. After falling shut, the soundproofing reduced the thumping music down to a dull ache in my memory. Some friends had shown me 'Nomi's' a few years ago and my disguise was either good enough to remain anonymous or simply nobody was bothered by the fact that a celebrity, and a hetero-normative one at that, was floating through an LGBTQ scene. The buff goth lady simply nodded at us before setting us free into the cold night.
Giulia poked me in the arm. "You hungry? I'm starving."
I shuffled about in the cold, considering if my anxiety was treatable with some food, then everything would be fine again. "I could eat."
"Wanna get kebab or pizza?" She held onto a street light and swung around playfully.
The corners of my mouth turned down into pathetic pout. "Chicago pizza?"
She smiled and frowned at the same time. "Yeah, why not? I know a place that's still open."
We talked on our entire way to the pizza place, shared our worries and doubts and she listened like we were two old friends who had finally reconnected but had never grown apart. The more she poured her interest into my problems, the more she lit up and somehow, I had overshared my entire trauma history. I was free to pretend to just be someone ordinary while in reality, I was opening up to a past life my public persona only dealt with when ugly rumours after a speculative peer-review turned into invasive interview questions. Giulia on the other hand had no idea who I was. To her, I was just another lost person.
The buzz of the alcohol had somewhat lessened during our cold morning walk. Some delis were already opening their shops for the day while the pizza place served their last customers.
A chosen New Yorker claiming Chicago-style pizza was superior was a dangerous opinion to have. Yet, I never felt more certain of it when the cheese string connecting to my piece seemed to never end. I chuckled darkly and groaned in delight while Giulia gave me an approving "Yeees, get in there."
"All I needed was some damn pizza." I sighed lowly, and yet again, battled my crisis with humour. "Can you believe that my ex-therapist advised me to go on a crash diet? All he wanted to talk about was my weight and my sex life. He wanted to stop me from being a massive kinky bitch and why would I want that?" Both of us cackled.
"Shit." She frowned, the doctor having a habit of leaning into me when she found something interesting. "I don't get how someone like that is able to keep a license."
"Yeah! Right?" I cried out, mouth full of hot pizza. I found enjoyment in being a hot mess when I mimicked his voice. "Oh, doesn't matter if you have a drug history. I have you under my wing, this is completely safe. Now here's some Ketamine. And boom, I'm dealing with withdrawal, cheers. Thanks a lot, dickhead."
"You weren't safe with him. Therapy shouldn't be manipulative." Dr Oswald stated.
"I swear, I have no verbal filter anymore. Being off meds is the worst." Though I had conveniently left out the part that I was famous, I remembered we were still in public and I shouldn't talk about too private things. I stared into the starless night above Manhattan and missed them as much as my sanity. "I can't help missing this... howling loneliness and complete lack of ego inside what was just mind fog." There wasn't any other way to describe ketamine to me. My nose clogged up at the pain and struggle of it all. "My sweet boyfriend- I was so mean to him and I know I'm also on my period and extra mean and the sauce I made was way too runny!" I sobbed at this point, nearly inarticulate, drifting off towards a point that was still very important to me.
"I'm sure it wasn't that bad." "It was practically water!" I sobbed out at the memory of our unsatisfactory dinner last night, shoulders shaking from crying.
"No... I meant what you said about being mean." She clarified while I suppressed a threatening hiccup. "What's your underlying concern?" Doc redirected our conversation with an annoyingly stereotypical therapy question but I guessed that had to be part of it.
"You know, I lost my cat-" A gulp broke my speech and I breathed until I got it together. "And it shouldn't feel this marginal but watching her die and realising I wasn't over my mum's death and feeling this profound sense of grief made me realise that maybe I don't want to be loved like that when I die. This much." Thick drops of tears streamed down my face and I knew I must have not made a lot of sense. "Never expressing this much love again. Feel the way I'm feeling... in that moment. I never stopped grieving and I figured, if he'd hate me, that would be easier."
The look she gave me was one of full understanding. "Go on, you got this." She encouraged me with a firm hand on my shoulder.
I wiped my face with my sleeve, snot, tears and makeup got stuck on the black fabric. "You know what my angel said? He said he could never hate me and he would never regret loving me, that I taught him that." I stifled myself with more pizza.
"Sounds like your person is there to help you navigate your pain," Doc said. "Maybe you're looking to become the people who would rather love like no one has ever loved before than to avoid the greatest suffering."
It seemed Pedro and I kept growing together. Through good and bad times. Despite the hardship, we still remained a unit and maybe that was all that mattered.
I soon rediscovered that food made everything better again and I filled the hole in my soul with cheese until my phone started buzzing in my pocket. Pedro was calling again.
"That's him?" Giulia asked with a look at the caller ID showing that 'Angel' with a load of heart emojis was calling. I showed her a picture of him and me together from our last New Year's celebration and she cooed at our big smiles. "I miss him," I admitted.
"He looks sweet. A bit... older than you, I guess?" She slurred back.
Bless her heart, she didn't recognise him either. "A bit." I downplayed our eighteen-year age gap. "Truth is, I am lucky to be with this treasure of a man, he's kind, sexy, smart and so talented." I gushed over him.
"But you've not communicated about your argument?" A slight smile spread on her lips despite her seriousness and somehow, I saw someone competent past those rhinestone eyebrows.
"No. I ran. Like always." I said in pure disappointment in myself. "I don't know if I fucked up for good this time. I can be such a bitch these days. But imagine me going home after this, what the fuck." I chewed slowly. "He already worries so much." I already knew my eyes were puffy and my lips were swollen from biting them. "Pedro thought he'd get a fun and bubbly, nurturing girlfriend but then he met my insecure dramatic traumatised and needy ass. What if I can't give him everything he deserves? He somehow still settled for me." A fresh tear ran down my cheek, this time I thought it might have been a happy one.
"You don't think your relationship is healthy?" Doc asked with a cough and I shrugged my shoulders. My fingers played with my sea glass necklace. "Do you think it's bad that... I don't feel like I'm not constantly on fire?"
"You think about the mind games that kept you interested?" "Don't call me out like that." My eyes narrowed.
"Let me ask you something. Does your relationship feel like an up-and-down roller coaster?"
I felt stupified and stammered out. "No?"
She kept insisting. "When someone has a hard time, do you make time to be there for the other? Not to improve things but just to be there."
"We can be miles away from each other at times but... yes. He's my lighthouse." I smiled widely despite her not getting the reference.
Giulia licked sauce off her thumb. "Do you bring the inner child up in each other?"
"Always." I laughed with tears in my eyes at every happy memory. I recalled our Christmases, birthdays, interviews and public events or simply the ordinary evenings just between the two of us.
Dr Oswald's shoulders relaxed with a sigh. "I think your relationship is more than healthy. Healthier than average couples. Don't let your insecurities talk you down, grow from them." With that, she shoved her last bite of pizza into her mouth and clapped her hands-free from crumbs.
My eyes skipped between her and the floor awkwardly. "Thanks, I guess."
She hummed before sharing an amused memory. "When my ex was fed up with me, I made her a sock puppet and tried to talk about it. She never called again." She demonstrated it with her glove. "Why don't you trust people?" She voiced her hand.
I gave her a fond smile as we began our walk back. "You're weird," I said with a chuckle as I retrieved a pre-rolled blunt from my purse and held it up to Giulia in an offer.
She grinned before passing me her lighter. "You're a cliché." She watched me light joint and take a practiced drag of the spicy herb.
"You're the one who said she dismembered Barbies as a kid." I countered with a deep exhale.
"Don't pretend you're not just as weird. You probably tortured your Sims or played with scary spiders or something." Giulia assumed, judging by my goth outfit by all accounts before taking a drag herself.
I couldn't help but play a joke on her. "There were indeed only spiders in the basement to play with," I commented dryly and her eyes closed while mine widened. Having just listened to the story of my sad childhood and the fact that my father used to lock me up in the cellar, she choked on the smoke. For a moment we were both shocked by my words until I noticed she was slowly breaking into laughter. She tried to keep it behind her hand but now we were both finished trying to hold back and instead of trying to work through and process my trauma, we let go of a hollering laugh. She at least tried to remain decent. "That's not funny. That's so not... funny."
I thought I was allowed to think it was. "It's a bit funny." She shook her head no, tearing up when she gave me my weed back. "See, you helped me already. I could talk about my dad without having an emotional breakdown. It's been easier already but I haven't felt this... relieved in a long time." I blinked away my tears stubbornly, finally admitting to myself that I was not fine and I was constantly reacting to my trauma. I decided then and there that if I would ever mistreat a future child of mine, I would not deserve to waste any more oxygen on this world. "You're really good at this. Knocking sense into people." I said sincerely.
"I appreciate you trying to end my lost cause. You made me feel like I'm not a total failure after all." She said on our way back through the calm side alleys. Our steps echoed from the red brick stone walls as we passed the joint back and forth.
"Are you kidding me? I appreciate your work so much. You do matter. This was... this was really helpful. I mean it." I saw her bottom lip trembling at my promise.
"Thank you. You're very nice."
Like a cool cat, I flicked the joint away. "I have my moments." She let me drape my arm across her shoulders as we made our way out of the last alley.
The night was slowly lifting and my mind felt light as a feather when the club came back into view. "I don't think I'll go back inside again." I said at the end of our journey.
Giulia turned and her hands clapped onto her sides with a sigh. "Now imma tell you what I'd say as a therapist and imma tell you what I'd say as a parent from an Italian household." She took a step closer and lowered her voice, her concern sounding far from patronising. "I would very much like to test you for PTSD and bipolar disorder and I want to break down generational trauma and introduce you to the right medication and progressive, beneficial habits because you girl, are not making wise choices." She finally put her finger down. "Second, and this is my nonna speaking-" Suddenly she raised her voice and I jumped. "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING HERE? GET YOUR ASS HOME, PRONTO." She gestured like her Italian grandma and I chirped out a laugh.
"O-okay." I was met with a passionate grin I had to somewhat dampen. "PTSD has kind of already been diagnosed though." A deep intuitive feeling matched and I somehow knew she would be able to help me.
"No depression?" "It's more of an anxiety disorder." "Shame. People with depression have the best Spotify playlists."
I blinked at the sound of her disappointment. "I would very much like to become your patient." I decided then and there.
"Fantastic." She wrestled her hand into her boot in return to give me a white business card with a font that promised a brutalist interior design. 'M.D. G. Oswald' written on it with an office address in Manhattan not far from here.
"Fancy," I noted and tucked it away into my bra. She seemed genuinely happy at the encounter. "God knows, I've made my partner age ten years tonight. After this-" I began to walk backwards towards the street. "I owe him a lifetime of happiness... and no more runny sauces."
"Try creme fraiche next time." Giulia advised me and the only thing I could do was comment with an awkward 'ah.
I shifted my weight from one to the other foot, pointing in the direction of an approaching cab. "I should probably... I'll give you a call." I turned one last time after I had already managed to hail it. "Hey Doc, one more thing."
"What?"
I couldn't have addressed her with a sterner tone as I stood by the open door of my ride. "If you ever tell me I need to forgive my dad, I'll be out the door." I threatened and at first she looked puzzled, but then saluted me in understanding and we smiled at each other.
I was already inside the taxi when she whistled sharply with her fingers and provoked me to roll the window down. "Ey, one last word of advice." She began as she stood in front of the door back where our journey had originally started. "Make up with your fella. If he's mad, suck his dick. He'll get over it."
"Amen!" A bunch of suddenly cheerleading people roaming the club's entrance in their colourful outfits contributed with loud and some lewd additions.
I nodded and sank a little deeper into my seat with my cheeks heating up at her thumbs up. "Thanks." Giulia slapped the roof of my taxi for goodbye and as I drove off, I looked back to see her going back inside the club.

At around five in the morning, the house was dark and perfectly quiet. Everything seemed to go according to plan if it meant Pedro had finally gone to sleep. The key and wind chime at the door hardly made a noise when I crept inside, yet having to greet a pathetically whining Edgar who had been waiting for me on the doormat required an advanced level of discreteness. "Hey, good boy, hi! Oh, dear. Oh, dear." I went over to pacify our boy before I snuck inside bare feet with my shoes dangling from my fingers.
Completely parched, I passed into the kitchen, unloaded all of my belongings onto the counter and fumbled at my earrings with a sigh. My mouth tasted weird.
I was stretching towards the glasses when sudden bright headlight illuminated the entire room and scared the living hell out of me. His sudden appearance had been nearly enough to drop my glass before I could even retrieve it from the cupboard. "Kut, fuck! You scared me!" I cursed after swishing around to see one particular unpleased Pedro in the French doorway. His frown only deepened and he gave me a thin-lipped stare as he leaned against the frame and crossed his toned arms over his chest.
I knew I had to look like an absolute mess, yet I gestured around as if I couldn't see what the point of him busting me like a naughty teenager was. This was terribly like a bad childhood memory of my father doing practically the same thing, the only difference was that I wasn't scared of Pedro. He was dressed in his old pyjamas and his hair was adorably ruffled post-shower but his softness was entirely replaced by harsh tension. Deep bags cast a shadow underneath his eyes and it was then that I noticed the sheen of tears in their hardness, something between pure anger and also, relief.
"Hi." I gulped, sensing I was in deep trouble regardless. I slowly pulled my wig off my head, discarding the long black strands as they flowed off my shoulders. He didn't echo my greeting as usual.
My eyes skipped to the floor at the sight of his obvious disappointment in me and I wondered if I would manage to raise any kind of reaction from him other than eyes that stared daggers into my soul. Pedro's anger was a chilling thing to behold. It was rare.
His chest first expanded and he tore his hand over his mouth like he needed to stop all the necessary curses from tumbling out with his next exhale. "How was it?" He asked instead, ironically with a sharp edge to each word. His eyes radiated a kind of severe heat that promised this was merely the calm before the storm.
I forced myself not to stutter but my heart beat out of my chest. "It was... nice. I feel good. Really good. Better um... I thought you'd maybe be asleep by the time I get home."
"Oh, really?" He parroted with dripping sarcasm, finally stepping down the few stairs and stalking intimidatingly closer. I shrunk underneath him and bumped into the counter, wincing at his proximity more than the impact. "Where were you?" He growled, jaw clicking.
Irritation glared up at me at his patronising tone and I realised I wasn't done provoking him after all. It was like I couldn't stop myself. With an attitude, I raised my chin and snarked up at him. "Why does it matter? I'm no longer there."
"Did you take anything?" He turned my face into the light above with force and I blinked, irritated at the examination. The light was too bright and his grip pinched my cheeks a little too harsh for his gentle character. He held heated eye contact that made my pride resolve and finally crumble. "Leonie, did you take anything?" He bit down at me after he couldn't detect something unusual about the dilation reflex in my pupils.
I freed myself from his grasp. "No, I didn't! Let go of me." I pouted childishly and he let it be for the moment, stepping back and letting me go like my touch burned him. "I'm fine!" I added when he walked away from me.
He faced the garden, his broad back casting a shadow onto the blueish-hued floor when I dared to speak up again. "I'm... I'm tired. I think I should just go to bed." I tried to sneak my way out but he was quicker to strut to the couch and toss me a pillow.
"No, you're not." He ordered, clearly insinuating I was sleeping here tonight.
"Fine." I bit out and aggressively fumbled with a blanket while he turned around and didn't take another look at me. A gush of air pushed through his nose when he walked past me.
I could only watch as he went to leave, a rush of sympathy and guilt provoking me to finally do the right thing. "I'm s-"
He broke off my apology. "Go to sleep and sober up. We'll speak in the morning."
A heavy stone settled in my heart. "Pedro."
He went to go upstairs and not once turned to look at my sad, lost form that waited in vain for a sign of forgiveness.

When I woke about five hours later, it was by the sound of items banging in the kitchen. The smell of something delicious sizzled in a pan but my stomach dreaded it and my head felt like it could burst. The first wave of sickness crashed into me when I remembered the resemblance of hatred in Pedro's eyes. Mine opened to the sight of his chocolate curls bouncing as he chopped something with a knife. His gaze was still turned down even though he must have seen that I was up and the more I told myself that he didn't care for me anymore, the more I felt like I deserved it.
The smell of bacon suggested that the thick tension hanging in this house was merely a delusion. Normally it meant something different. A cosy breakfast with a newspaper and coffee, loving banter and plans for the future.
Pedro discarded something into the bin when I sat up and disturbed Edgar, who had been sleeping cuddled into my side.
Pedro sighed and tossed the towel he'd been using over his shoulder. It was like he needed to brace himself before acknowledging me with a side glance and a tight pull of his moustache. I threw my blanket off and felt nothing but awful at the sight of the fatigue on his face.
"Good morning," I muttered meekly and got up to go and sit at the table with my hands folded sheepishly in front of me. I didn't even dare to walk up to him and get myself a cup of coffee. Pedro on the other hand, knowing me inside and out, fetched it for me and the creamy liquid sloshed over the rim at the force he used to slam it down in front of me. A plate with a croissant followed next with a harsh clatter of porcelain on wood. Before this 'talk' I dreaded more than anything would ensue, he waited for me to examine my favourite breakfast that I still adored him for. "Thank you." I barely managed to say.
He watched me dunk a piece of buttery deliciousness into my coffee, slip it into my mouth and treat him to a careful smile. I knew he had gone out of his way to get me fresh croissants but I couldn't tell if it was a peace offering or should merely act like a little sugar to make the medicine taste not so bitter. I braced myself for the latter. "D'd you sleep well?" He muttered tiredly and I nodded.
"The couch is pretty comfortable, actually." I attempted to make an insignificant observation before returning the question and receiving a hardly noticeable shake of his head as he brushed it off.
"Pedro, talk to me," I begged him, still hoping I could fix this. "Please."
Yell at me, throw something. Just anything.
I could hardly swallow as he stalked through the room. He took deep breath before his agitation finally unfolded. "Do you have any idea-" he spoke slow and patiently. "-how worried I was all night?"
Finally, his eyes met mine and it was nearly devastating. A heavy gulp forced my food down and I inhaled to start with an apology but he stopped me from making even the tiniest approach. "I was frightened, I didn't know what to do. You just... storm out after we had a fight, I have no idea where you're going-" The heat still radiated from his eyes when his voice turned a mocking tone. "The problem is you don't fucking care about anything! I wait for a fucking sign of life from you but you ignore my texts, you don't answer my calls-" His voice rose in volume with each word. "And then, finally at five in the morning, you come home, reeking of alcohol and weed and I knew-- I knew that would happen. Who else but you would just disappear, then pop up like nothing happened?" He had bent over the table, hands splayed out across when he spoke to me in calm anger. "You know what you did? You mixed painkillers with alcohol and drugs, you're lucky you didn't end up in the ER! And don't get me started on the scandal you could have caused when you walk around fucking wasted like that." He shook his head at me and I decided to keep it to myself that I had been to a gay club on top of that. "Irresponsible, stupid, impulsive girl. Give me one fucking reason why I shouldn't think you're a fucking danger hazard to yourself!"
"I was 'not' wasted," I muttered under my breath, but he looked past my antics and the flaw of design I called self-medication. He was speechless. "I'm sorry, okay?"
"Oh, you're sorry?" he chastised me, louder this time, ready to berate me a little more. "I'm sorry is not fucking good enough this time!" He was breathing irregularly.
"I needed a little bit of freedom, Pedro!" I cried out.
Maybe emotion made him irrational at this point too. He didn't care Edgar was whining at us. "Oh, remind me again how horrible living in LA was and make me feel guilty about it."
"I begged to come with you, to just leave New York, remember? Poen died and I wanted to leave." I yelled back, frantically wiping away the first couple of tears at his fury. "I love you, wherever you go, I go!" I sobbed. Silence hung in the room like thick fog clouding us.
He sighed, holding back the severity of his anger when he realised he had made me cry. Finally he sat next to me at the head of the table and with a terrible sigh, ruffled his hand through his hair.
He sounded so tired. "I was so fucking mad. Still am. You treat my concern like it's nothing. I get you're searching for yourself and what's good for you but call me out on my delusion if I assume it's not in self-medication but right here." He told me with his eyes closed. "Honey, I'm so invested in helping and supporting you and I also know you won't find that sort of thing while going out and risking your wellbeing. I have... a lot of empathy for what you're going through. Be selfish, by all means, but I am 'not-" he fixed my eyes with his and put his index finger onto the table. "deserving of being treated like shit. Trust goes both ways. If I can't convince you to do what's best for you, I trust that you at least won't disrespect my compassion."
Finally it sank in and I was struck by so much shame, my eyes stung violently and I hated myself for ever hurting him. Even if unintentionally, he was the only one who could stop me on my way down because he was in control of my heart. I was the first to break our tense silence. "I need help," I admitted in tears. "I want to get better."
We finally seemed to understand each other's dire struggle, for when he grasped my hand, it meant the world to me. "Maybe you want to try this clinic I found. I heard it's-" He began but I interrupted him and tried to conceal my disgust at even the mention of rehab.
"I already found a new therapist," I announced and he leaned back in a puzzled state. "Good, eh... good. What?" He stuttered.
"Last night." I finished and watched his jaw drop. He gave me a look like he was finally done with my bullshit and the hand he'd previously held so comfortingly let me go again. I aimed to pacify him before he could say anything. "A good psychiatrist, I met her in the club and I got a free session but I'm already a hundred per cent sure, she's the right one for me. She is... incredible."
Pedro was still too baffled to even process this piece of information. "That's... that's-" Pedro didn't know what exactly this was, he tried to think about his words but failed. He put his palm to his forehead to relieve the headache that had to be forming there. "I feel like you forgot everything I just said. You don't get it." Pedro looked at me, puzzled.
"I do." "No, I begged you to make more sensible decisions and then you barge in with this." He pinched the bridge of his nose. "God, you're a piece of work."
I tried not to take that past comment personally. "I mean something good came out of my manic episode. I realised important things. For example, that I'm self-sabotaging."
"Okay... okay. Let's think this through." Pedro had calmed down somewhat and ran his hand over his beard in an attempt to try and start over. "Does this therapist have any credentials? What's her background? References? Do you have any idea who she is?" His questions were all reasonable but I had no answers to them. All I knew was that none mattered because I had a good feeling I about her.
"She's extremely smart and empathetic, she's boisterous, a lesbian and she's a socialist. You'd like her." I explained and he blinked at me. Dumbfounded, he folded his hands and I felt free to tell him the entire story of how Doc and I met.
Even after I was done explaining, he was still not convinced. "You know can't have a personal relationship with your therapist. This meeting while going out... thing and smoking together doesn't sound good at all. Who parties with their therapist?"
"I know, I know we can't be friends. She already said something like that. That and, that I should suck your dick if you're still mad at me." His frown seemed edged in stone, causing my innocent expression to crumble bit by bit. "You don't want that." I assumed, quietly.
"No, I don't." He dismissed, low and pointedly. "This is a bad idea. And this... therapist suggesting a blow job would fix this-" he looked up with a spark of humour I fixed my hope on. "Maybe."
I raised my eyebrows and he pointed a finger at me. "No, I was joking." "Okay, jeez." "I'd appreciate it if you took this seriously."
Maybe it had dawned on me or my manic episode was finally tranquillized by cold sobriety but my eyes stung with tears and my voice cracked when I spoke under my breath. "I am taking it more seriously than ever." I tried and was met with a look of love and pain in his eyes that nearly broke my heart.
"Don't say that if you don't mean it." He begged quietly.
A heavy gulp got stuck in my throat and for several moments, I gathered the right things to say. "I know... I know you have a good reason to be angry with me but I felt... so helpless." I choked up. "So unseen."
For several long, insufferable beats, we stayed mute until the quietness became too much to bear. "I'm sorry if I made you feel that way." His voice had cracked mid-sentence. "Just the thought anything could happen to you... and it would have been my fault. When I didn't hear anything from you, I was so angry."
When his eyes filled with tears, I reached over the table to gently try and loosen the arms he had crossed in front of his chest. Reluctantly, he opened up and let me hold his hand.
"Baby, I know it's been hard. I know-" My voice quivered while he tried to compose himself and meet my eyes. He was right, I hadn't been myself lately and I was so sorry for everything. For last night, for what nearly happened in LA. He was the one person I wanted to keep trying for and I made a promise with the only words that mattered. "I'll do better."
Pedro nodded, the flicker of warmth in his moist eyes. He believed me. "Okay." He decided and merely the thought of ever disappointing him again broke my heart. Never in my entire life had I felt such shame. The tears that had gradually been filling my eyes spilled over and I watched them fall into my lap when I couldn't hold them any longer.
He cupped my cheek when a sob shook my body and raised my chin so he could look me in the eyes and make something clear. "I was scared, for you. And you- you don't understand how much it hurts when you run out the door like that. Please, at least let me know you're okay next time." He admitted quietly.
"I'm so sorry." I cried out.
"You were right, I was too controlling. And I'm sorry for letting you sleep on the couch and being too harsh on you." He sighed, wiped first mine, then his tears away before he regained his composure. "If you need time for yourself, I won't stop you."
"Not... time away from you but-" I sighed. "Maybe I just need to get back to work. Do my own thing again and work on some music."
"That's a very good idea." He smiled for the first time and it was soothing, even though something seemed to still weigh on his mind. "Can you promise me something?" His eyes snapped back up from our entwined hands and I braced myself to receive an expectation I would have trouble meeting. "Promise you'll tell me when you feel like I'm smothering you, so you won't start to resent me?"
Finally, the consequences of my actions had an impact when I realised he was definitely the more mature person about this. The fact that I made him worry about that deeply saddened me. "I could never resent you." I squeaked out, finally broken.
Pedro breathed out a relieved sigh when I threw myself into his arms and I could hold him tight. His shoulders sank low as he hid his face in the crook of my neck and hugged me close. He needed me as much as I needed him, right here and wrapped up in his arms.
"Lost my fucking Duolingo streak." He grumped, spoke muffled into my shoulder and triggered a peal of laughter to bubble up between us.
"I'm so sorry, angel. I really am." I replied nasally but somewhat relieved of all tension. Looking back at him, I wiped away the moisture underneath his eyes.
"It's okay now." He promised. "I promise it'll be okay."
I revelled in his gentle touch. "I'm sorry for being all wrong in the head." My voice thinned out.
He caught my chin between his finger and thumb. "Hey, hey, you're not. Look at me." I did, looking into his still glistening, beautiful brown eyes to see him sniff and brace me for some uplifting words. "You think there's something wrong with you? There's nothing. Absolutely nothing is wrong with you. Anxiety and depression fucking suck but you're gonna stop being so hard on yourself. It gets better, I promise. And when we fight, we fight hard but we love even harder." His eyes were so soulful and he was in every way, kindness and beauty while I was ashamed of the way I looked, felt and behaved. Somehow he made me feel deserving again just by looking at me.
"You don't know how much that means to me." I was hardly able to say through my throat closing up in tears as I held his face in between my palms. "I'm sorry, Pedro. My sweetheart." Gazing into his shimmery, yet determined eyes and finally seeing no sign of irritation in them lifted an enormous weight off my heart. A desperate need for closeness forced its way into our embrace. It was nearly too harsh, the way he pulled me closer when his fingers tangled into the roots of my hair like he'd lose me if he didn't but I needed it to survive.
He held me close for what felt like forever and again, I felt the need to just disappear within him. "Hey, I don't want a mentally stable partner. That's boring." I said in an uplifting tone and I nearly giggled. "Because that's not fun. It doesn't fit me. You fit me. I want you, with all of your issues. To me, you are perfect." He placed many, loving kisses on my head and made his devotion and immortal support finally resonate within me. I was a path without an end and he was happy to keep treading on it.

I'm still tryin' to act like, nah it ain't that serious Cross around my neck and a crystal in my pocket I believe in miracles Guess you could call me spiritual Yes I'd love to stay, but my home is the other way Hard to describe it You never are alone I'm not certain who it is I'm praying to I never really thought I could belong When I lay beside you I know that I'm home When I try but the words ain't coming You know exactly where it is I'm coming from Baby, I'm not made of stone I'm alright, I'm alright, but I could be wrong, baby I know you remember me You could at least try and look at me Hold on it's a marathon My tears don't fall too often But your knife is cuttin' me deep It hurts the way that you pretend you don't remember It's forever, baby Loving you the way I do, it hurts I guess I got caught up I didn't mean to cause no trouble I'm just so sick So give me something Oh God, forgive me Have mercy on me Oh it's not easy here Hey, please excuse the mess Where does that leave us? Don't you dare say tomorrow Who's gonna love me right now? I need you to love me right now And oh, my heart breaks I'm not telling you to love what I love You've seen things my lips can't confess Talk is cheap, can you rescue me? I threw my cautions to the wind, my friend I'm a serial lover I set up all the dates You went in straight for the jugular And that's what I got for just loving you But now you're suggesting we try again I'd rather not I'd rather not have my heart blown to pieces again Do you have any idea what you put me through? See, when it was good it was amazing We could never seem to find an in-between But I don't have the heart to risk what's left of me No, I'd rather not get my heart ripped into pieces Well sometimes I get lonely So come on, let's stop wasting all our energy And don't lie to me, I know you felt the changes Baby, I'm outta here And I wish you'd just hold me Can't find my address I've been lonely since the day you left Yeah we're still here and we're still breathing Oh when it rains it always pours There's more of us than ever I need you to love me tenderly I need you to touch me gentle, please We all need someone to hold onto Why don't you just love me tenderly? Oh please, just close the door behind you, dear No I don't wanna talk about it Baby, won't you take me outta here? And if we run into trouble, know I won't disappear I've been standing right here Well here I am and I'm all yours

Veronica Bishop is a vampire that currently resides in Downtown and has been a Lunar Cove resident for 1 week learning that if she thought life was hard, the afterlife is like, way harder.
ITS THE END OF THE WORLD
GENDER/PRONOUNS: Cis Female, She/Her
DATE OF BIRTH: October 23, 1997
OCCUPATION: Unemployed
FACECLAIM: Ella Purnell
AS WE KNOW IT, AND I FEEL FINE
SPECIES: Vampire
CLAN POSITION: Non-member
AGE AT TRANSFORMATION: 25
WELCOME TO LUNAR COVE, RONNIE BISHOP
Trigger Warnings: Death
Veronica Bishop was, like, kind of the shit, okay? And she knew it. That was by fate’s design, a blessing in being born privileged. She had everything growing up, everything that she could possibly ask for. Born and raised in Greenwich, Connecticut, Ronnie’s parents made a good life for themselves and their three children. Between high paying jobs and no small amount of nepotism, the Bishops lived a life of luxury and leisure in their spacious mcmansion. Oh, but they did what they could to keep their children humble. Ronnie and her siblings attended public school for their education. They had to try out for teams and plays and everything else. But Ronnie was the baby, and, really, she was always just a little bit spoiled.
She was Popular, too (that capital P’s intentional, the girl was that good). She was rich, she was pretty, and she had a kind of charm that was magnetic, if at times casually cruel. Ronnie liked getting her way, and everyone knew it. Sometimes, it was easier to just let her rather than deal with the consequences. Ronnie didn’t know what consequences even were. Trouble always seemed to find her, but it never really stuck. And why would it? There was never anything for Ronnie to worry about. Her life was easy and perfect.
Pretty and popular with decent grades and the aura of someone that ruled high school, she decided to take that energy with her to college. Ronnie was used to being a big fish in a little pond, so it was an adjustment period to get to NYU and realize that she wasn’t immediately the hottest item on the market. But confidence is not something that Veronica Bishop has ever been lacking in. She found her niche, roaming in social circles that threw the best parties, went to the biggest events, had the most fun. Because fun was why Ronnie went to college. If she could have majored in it, she would have (she didn’t; she majored in marketing, but she put significantly more effort into having fun). When she graduated– something that shouldn’t have surprised people but kind of did– she stuck around New York, and the party never ended. Ronnie never really had to work, though she’d occasionally get paid for helping social media starlets set up their brand. Life was a party that never had to end, and that was the way that Ronnie liked it.
All good things must come to an end, though. Ronnie was out one night in April of 2023 and ended up getting separated from her friends in a club. But meeting a man named Cain was totally worth the separation. Cain offered her a good time, and he was charming and handsome. There was something a little dangerous about him, but Ronnie liked that, too. Sometimes it was fun to ignore the warning bells. Her friends finally caught back up to her, but Ronnie was already planning on going home with Cain. She remembered someone trying to warn her, saying maybe not to go home with some guy she’d just met, but Ronnie did whatever she wanted, always, even if it wasn’t the smartest decision.
So, Veronica Bishop died that very night.
Except she woke up. Cain was leaning over her, his face coming into focus haloed by the light of some cheap lamp, behind him a rundown Brushwick apartment. He didn’t apologize. He didn’t even really tell her what was going on. He only called them what they were once: vampire. He didn’t mean to turn her, but she’d been about to die, and he hadn’t wanted to kill her. She was pretty. Ronnie was grateful she was pretty. So, he said, they were stuck together. The supernatural world was dangerous, and Cain mentioned there was only one true supernatural stronghold left in the world in Lunar Cove, Rhode Island, but he was confident in his abilities to survive, and so he dragged Ronnie into his lifestyle.
Cain’s rules were simple, and he only went over them once during the course of the first night: don’t get caught in the sun, or you’ll die, and don’t kill too much, or you’ll get us killed. Otherwise, there were no real rules. Cain was prone to overindulgence and excess, and Ronnie hadn’t been much better in life; why should she be any different as a vampire? She was squeamish at the thought of drinking blood and murder, but the first time she fed was a mess. Cain didn’t teach her to be any different; he only laughed and told her to clean up.
Ronnie was only with Cain for a week before everything fell apart even further. If she’d been more conscious of what was going on around her, then she’d have probably been disgusted with her new living arrangement; the apartment was small and mostly bare, and Cain didn’t appear to have that much money, not like Ronnie was used to. But it hardly mattered; they were barely in the apartment, and the party that was Ronnie’s life continued to spiral. Ronnie’s first week as a vampire ended with her watching Cain get murdered in front of her by a group of armed people. Neither of them had seen it coming. They would have gotten Ronnie, too, but she’d taken off running and hadn’t stopped. She just hadn’t stopped.
Hiding in the subway until the sun set again, Ronnie didn’t even have the capacity to be disgusted by her circumstances. She was only afraid and alone for the first time in her entire life. When the sun set, Ronnie tried to figure out what to do. She remembered the place that Cain had mentioned. It seemed like the only place to go. Ronnie didn’t want to end up like Cain. The party was over, then, and Ronnie had to find a way to actually live.
Ronnie made it to Lunar Cove as a refugee, not really sure what to expect. Her circumstances weren’t exactly… luxurious, to say the least, and she complained about them when she got the chance, but the truth was that Ronnie was scared in a way that she’d never been in her entire life. Without a clue about how the supernatural world works, and without the resources that she grew up with, Ronnie wasn’t as prideful as Cain to think that she could survive on her own like this. Still, she’s yet to decide if Lunar Cove is lame or not.

Being With Nanami Kento
For Anon :) Anon I am so sorry this is like three weeks late. I had finals and then got super sick. The past couple of weeks were a lot.
What it's like being with Nanami Kento:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Sorry, I’m late.”
Nanami held a plastic bag from the Chinese place down the street in one hand. In the other was his jacket. His tie was incredibly loose, and upon closer inspection, blood on his collar. Nanami wasn’t the type to be late. Being an adult meant being on time, but if he had to be, he would come with take-out, an offering of forgiveness no one ever asked for, even if that day he had quite literally gone through hell and back.
“Those kids are going to be the death of me,” he groaned, putting the food on the table and pulling out plates. Despite the strain in his voice and obvious strain on his body, he carefully portions out the food for the one he loves most based on their favorites. Extra fried rice and only enough broccoli to reach a satisfactory vegetable intake. He takes the extra steps to make the cheap take-out look presentable, finishing it off with a glass of white that was nice enough to give someone he loves but not so nice that it felt odd to be drinking with this meal. On his plate, he threw on what was left.
Trying to ask him about the day is futile, although it’s easy enough to piece it together. He might not technically be a teacher, but he didn’t trust Gojou to always treat the kids like kids- he always thought the man put too much pressure on the young sorcerers to fulfill his vision, noble as it might be. They probably went into a fight, recklessly like their teacher, and had to learn the hard way that they weren’t the strongest. They weren’t like him. So Nanami, the saint he is, intervenes and not only has to fight a curse but tend to the students as well. Not just during but after, too, that was also a point of contention between the two men. Gojou wasn’t always the best to meet someone's emotional needs, especially after something traumatic. It was hard, exhausting, and long work, but someone had to do it.
But who took care of Nanami?
No one. Or that’s how he felt about it. He was strong, mentally and physically. The burden of the world was to fall as much as possible on his shoulders. “I’ll be right back. I should shower before sitting down to eat. I probably smell like sweat and blood.” He figured that he also probably wasn’t enjoyable to look at in this state, and they deserved only the best from him.
As he walked away, though, he found himself impossibly stopped by the small tug of his shirt. One hundred grade 1 curses couldn’t get him to budge, but that delicate hand, untouched by the darkness of his world, sometimes felt like the only thing keeping him grounded. Without another word, he sat back down and started to eat. It was silly to think that eating before a shower was anyone’s version of being cared for, but for a man who put everyone’s feelings and comfort in front of his own, the small gesture was the permission he didn’t know he wanted. It had been a long day, and all he wanted was to enjoy a nice meal in front of the most beautiful person in the world. That’s what made him feel taken care of.

BIG DEAL
Pairing: Chris Evans x Reader
Warnings: smut, cheating, angst
Summary: After being away of you boyfriend for three weeks, you come to Chris’s  house after he had thrown a party where you met a girl you haven’t see ever. The beginning of the relationship was unconventional so you couldn’t do anything else but suspect.
Part 1  Part 2  Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Epilogue
“It’s not fair” the voice from de other side of the phone was deep, he was slurring his words. I did recognize it, it was hard to forget it, but it was quite odd hearing him like that, so drunk that he couldn’t speak.
“Chris? It’s 3:00 am. I was sleeping.” I said sitting on the bed better.
“Oh yeah? How does that feel? You know what? I was doing it fine. I let you go; I was getting you out of my head. Why it's so fucking easy for you to get into it?” he sounded sad and mad at the same time.
“Chris, I’m sorry if what I told you hurt your feelings, it was mean, I know. I'm really sorry. Your personal life is not my business anymore.” He didn’t let me finish. He wasn’t interested in my apologies.
“I wanted everything of that with you. I wanted a wedding, I wanted to find a fucking house together, a big fucking house to have a big fucking family. I made up my mind to have kids, adopt two and maybe have one, because that was your dream family. And fuck! I wanted it so much, I wanted to be part of that fucking dream so much. I don't want it if you aren't in the equation. Why it's so hard to believe for you? Why don't you want everything of that just with me? It's not fucking fair, why are you still in my head? How can you be so collected?” his words brought me back to the time I told him my dream.
He was staying in my apartment after being away for a couple weeks, he couldn’t sleep because of the jetlag and I wasn’t tired either, he was happy for my sleeplessness, he hated being alone in somebody’s else house. We went to get a few donuts, one of the perks of living in NY was, no matter what time is it, you can always find some food.
I remembered we walked the entire night, just talking, enjoying each other’s company.
He told me about his family, about his relationships with his parents, with his siblings and he explained to the adoption’s process of his sister. I told him about my workmate who thought that adopting a child and having a baby was not the same, that he wouldn’t take care of a someone’s child. He was so absorbed in his donut that he responded without looking at me.
“Sorry, if he’s your friend, but he’s an idiot. Being a parent is about loving, taking care of and protecting a child, not a biological relation.” I saw him in a different way, in that moment I realized I loved him. He continued in his unawareness and asked me about my family, and my dream family.
I told him about what kind a family I wanted. I wanted to have a big one, a big house, a couple animals and a house in the woods. He laughed “I would never have said you were like that.”
“What? Why?” I tried to look offended, but it wasn’t the first time I got that. “I don’t know, you love living here, your tiny apartment and your demanding job.” he was right, I loved that, but I had always lived by my own, I was used to it. “My apartment it’s not tiny.”
“Honey, you don’t have a dog because of it.” He spoke. “It’s a standard-sized apartment in NY” I defended “That is just another statement in my favor” he laughed.
“Are you okay?” I asked coming back to the reality.
“I thought I was until I saw you. How can you be so happy? Why can you live without me when I’m not able…” he blurted out all his inside feelings, I knew him, I knew he wouldn’t tell me those things if he was sober or calm. He is so impulsive. I knew he was going to regret it later. “Chris…” I interrupted him but he didn’t stop. “Fuck, I miss you and I don’t want to.”
“I’m sorry” I said calmly. He didn’t respond. The line was alive, but he was in completely silence.  “Chris?” and I didn’t hear nothing else.
I put my phone back on my nightstand while the conversation came to my mind. I don’t usually come to L.A, but I was Linda’s birthday, and we came to celebrate it. The club was new and kind of exclusive, I shouldn’t have been so surprised of finding him there.
He was chatting with a girl; I couldn’t see her face, but I could see him. He was so close to her, caressing his arm and touching her face. I wasn’t sure if I was on his vison, but it hurt me a bit he didn’t notice me.
The night went fine, I tried to forget about him and enjoyed the rest of the night. At some point, I went out to smoke a cigarette, I wasn’t a smoker but sometimes it feels good.
“Can I have one?” he said, I recognized his voice, I could feel his presence. I turned around to face him. I handed him one cigarette, trying to look calm. “Thank you.” He said with a smile. We stared for a few minutes until he spoke. “You look gorgeous. Your hair in that way, it has always been my favorite.” I give him a little smile as a thank you. “You look...taken.” I said, I shouldn’t have, he was free to do what he wanted. I had to admit that it bothered me, I got jealous. He didn’t look bother, anyway. He shook his head with a shy smile. “Well, you’re wrong. I’m completely single.”
“Is she aware of that? It doesn’t work if one of both doesn’t know it.” I said, he didn’t look hurt or annoyed by my words. He looked cheerful. “Ouch! Low blow. She is, don’t worry.” He said, looking at me right into my eyes. He is so flirty with a few drinks. “We are just friends. I’m not very good at relationships.” He spoke.
“I wouldn’t say that you’re not very good at it, you just miss the monogamy part. I thought you were ready to settle down. I guess they’re right, talk is cheap.” I threw out my wasted cigarette and was ready to say goodbye, but his face changed. He looked mad then, he didn’t say anything, but I noticed his mood wasn’t the same. I went too far. He got inside the club before me, without a word.
In the morning, I checked my phone. He didn’t call me again, but he did send me text.
“Sorry about last night, I shouldn’t have call you I was drunk and being an asshole. I`m so sorry. I won’t bother you again. Take care of yourself!”
After the day he left, we didn’t talk for three months. We didn’t have a tough conversation since then. He sent me flowers with a simple note for my birthday but nothing else.
“Hey girl! Why are you up so early?” Linda spoke, entering the room. “It’s 1 p.m.” I said joking. “Whatever! It’s my birth-weekend, if I said it’s early it is” she said with a big smile. “Why are you awake? We needed this, enjoy it and go back to bed.” she asked again.”
“I saw Chris last night” I said simply. “Where? At the club? I didn’t see him. Are you okay?” she got worry.
“Yes, at the club. And yes, I’m okay. We talked and I was being mean and kind of a bitch. He got mad and called me later. It was weird.” I responded.
“Why were you being mean? Did he tell you something?”
“He was with somebody. I don’t know, I got jealous.” It was hard for me to admit that I wasn’t like that I was completely against that but couldn’t help it.
“It’s normal, you were deeply in love with him.” He said before kissing me head.
We walked around the city and get lunch at a very nice and modern place. I didn’t think about him for the rest of the day.
“I know he lied and cheated but he is so fucking good looking.” Lucy commented suddenly. All of us got confuse until I turned around to see what she was staring at. A big billboard promoting his new film. Indeed, he was hot but in the picture he was breathtaking.
“Isn’t a shit that he is everywhere? I mean he is your ex.” Vanessa asked eating his meal.
“Yes. I guess.” I said simply. The topic of the conversation didn’t last long.
I didn’t realize he was everywhere until she mentioned it. The rest of the day he was in everything, Instagram, TV, even in the street.
I couldn’t take him out of my head.
“You are on every-fucking-where. Your face is all over this place.” I laughed, entering his house, he was filming something in L.A and I got a few days off to be with him. He was the face of a new fragrance so pictures of him were everywhere. For the first time in our relationship, I realized how famous he was. L.A was the place where I was with an actor and the rest of the world I was just with a guy. We were getting home from a night out. We were kind of drunk, not too much but in a very happy mood. “Oh! Shut up!” he said laughing. “Oh! Sorry sir, I don’t want to bother a such an important person. I will be a good girl.” I mocked, before I could do anything else, he took my face to his. “Will you?” he asked seductively, he kissed me deeply, holding my face firmly. His touches were always like that, comforting, protective and loving. I nodded smiling, unable to say anything with his mouth on mine. “Even L.A is a nice place when you are here.” He muttered against my cheek. His hands flew to my thighs to pick me up and take me to his room. Slowly, he took off my dress and helped me to get out of shoes. Just in my underwear, he smiled at me, and rubbed his gingers through my collarbones, the middle of my breast, my stomach and played with the band of my panties. “Haven’t you come out of my dreams?” he said. I moved my arms up to cover myself, laughing at his comment. “Alcohol makes you sappy.” I spoke. He took my hands to bring me closer to him “It makes me honest.” He kissed me and continued “Not even alcohol makes you speak. You’re such a cold heart chick, aren’t you?” he joked, I knew he was playing because he was smiling and kissing me but that wasn’t the first time, he insinuated something like that. “Chris…”
“I’m just joking, relax.” I let it go because I knew he was kind of right, I’m not a very affective person, or someone who loves to talk about love, but I was working on it.
At night we went to another club, it was a chill night, so we didn’t drink, we just talked and ate. When we wanted to go back to our rented house, we took a taxi but in the middle of ride I realized I left my jacket at the wardrobe’s club.
“Don’t worry! Get inside! I will be back in a couple minutes.” I said while the girls got out of the taxi.
I went back to the club, looking for my jacket. I asked the girl in charge of the wardrobe for it, she looked at me for a little bit too long. She handed my jacket and asked. “Sorry for question, but your face looks so familiar to me. Weren’t you Chris Evans’s girlfriend?” I got uncomfortable and she noticed. “I don’t want to bother you, it just I remember your face from where I used to work in. I worked in a restaurant in NY for a long time, and you and Chris used to go there, quite a lot.” She explained, I remembered her then, it was one of our favorite restaurants, and she was one of the waitresses. “Oh, yeah I remember you, Hi.” I spoke.
“We weren’t allowed to talk to our costumers there, I just wanted to tell you that you both make such a good couple, me and the other girls were in love with you guys.” She made me smile. We said goodbye and I left the place with him in my head.
“Okay, I’m ready. We can go.” I said to my driver, he was nice enough to wait for me to get my jacket. “Back to the house, right?” he asked turning on the engine. “No, can you take me here?” I asked, showing him the address on my phone.
I didn’t want to think about it twice. I wanted to see him.
As soon as we were near to his house, I realized I didn’t know where he was, he doesn’t come to LA until he has to. He was here yesterday but that was all I knew.
I got out of the taxi. “Do you want me to wait, or should I go?” the driver asked. For a few minutes I didn’t know what to do, and I saw the driver’s face was sightly impatient. “You can go, thank you.” I answered quickly, I wanted to see his face.
I rang the bell; I held my breath and I hoped he was there.
I waited for what I thought it was an eternity, but it was just two minutes.
I hear his voice on the intercom, and I blocked. “Who is it?” I couldn’t talk. I forgot how to speak. He waited not long before turning on the camera. I saw the red light and I knew he could see me. I didn’t say anything, and the sound of the door opening brought me back.
I walked to the house, and I just could see his silhouette because of the darkness.
“Are you trying to get even?” he joked, “Sorry to tell you, but you’re not as much intimidating as I can be, you can’t scare me”.
I didn’t respond, I kept walking in silence until I was at his door. Face to him. “What’s wrong? Are you okay?" he asked, suddenly worry about my state. I guess my expression was concerning.
“I’m sorry.” I just could say.
“Don’t worry, you can come whenever you want.” He spoke.
“I don’t mean that. I’m sorry…” I wanted to explain but he interrupted me.
“Hey! If this is about the call, don’t worry. I was being irrational, please! Just ignore it.” He looked shy.
“Can we talk?” I asked, I was feeling uncomfortable being outside. Before he could speak a woman’s laugh sound from inside the house, I realized he wasn’t alone. I blocked again. Him not being at home was an option, but I didn’t imagine that he could be with someone else.
“Oh! Shit! I should have called. I’m sorry,” I said, and I started to walk away. He looked confused for a few seconds before getting my arm. “Holy crap! No! Stop! It is not what you think! It’s Tara and Scott” he yelled.
I turned around and he continued “I had a few meetings here and they are spending the weekend here.” I felt the embarrassment going over my body. “We can go inside but they will be around. We can walk around the neighborhood, believe me it’ll be more private.” He suggested. I doubted for a second, but I nodded, he was right we’ll have more privacy.
“Okay! Wait a minute! I need my shoes.” He said before going back inside the house.
I started to regret, I wasn’t sure why I was there, what I wanted or anything. Before I could make any decision, he was back. He closed the door and started to walk by my side.
We walked for a few minutes, in completely silence. Our appearance was kind of odd, he was wearing sweatpants, an unmatched hoodie, and a pair of sneakers. In another hand, I was wearing a midi black dress, my shoulders were free and my feet in super high heels.
“Aren’t you cold? It’s kind of chill, isn’t?” he asked, breaking the silence, and starting to unzip his hoodie.
“No, I’m fine.” I knew he was trying to start a conversation, but I just didn’t know what to do.
“Great.” he said awkwardly. The silence came back. We just walked around the houses, there wasn’t many, but they were big enough to get us tired.
“So, how have you been? I heard about your promotion, I know you were trying to get it.” he asked, he knows if I was nervous, he had to keep up with the conversation.
“I’ve been fine, and yeah I got so excited for the promotion. Linda threw a party.” I told him. “I know, I saw a few pictures on Instagram.” He said quickly. Letting me know he had been stalking me. I looked at him in the eyes and he got what I was thinking about. He wrinkled his eyebrow trying to think how get out of judgment. “Okay! I could say you were suggested by the logarithm but, whatever, I was just curious. I have the normal curiosity of an ex-boyfriend, of a non psycho ex-boyfriend.” He explained shyly. He made me laugh and that made him smile. I felt more relaxed then.
“I’m sorry for being so mean at the party.” I spoke. His smile vanished and he started to shake his head slowly. “it wasn’t my business…”
“Hey! No! it’s fine, I was being too sensitive. I know you were joking. Don’t think about it. My call was completely out of place.” He spoke.
“I wasn’t joking, I was having an attack of jealousy.” I told him the truth. I had had a few with being his girlfriend but I didn’t admit it so I was a big statement for me.
“Well, you shouldn’t have…” I knew he was being nice enough not to make me feel even more humiliated. I interrupted him.
“I know, I know you’re free to…” I tried to explain but he spoke over me.
“You shouldn’t have because she is just a friend” he saw in my face a smirk that got him know what I was thinking about he used to have a lot of just-a-friend‘s friends. “A normal, regular, simple friend. We have been friends for years. Actually, I think you know her, she was Jessica, do you remember her?” I nodded, we used to go out with her when we were in L.A but we didn’t come very often. He didn’t like it and I was more than happy to be in N.Y.
“Great, can we pretend I didn’t say I was jealous? I feel ridiculous now.” I joked, he smiled at me and guided me to sit in a bench. “Now we’re even, you have my mortifying call, and I got your brutal honesty.” It was weird how I felt around him, after all that time, he could make me feel butterflies. I was still in love with him.
“I was being completely serious when I told you I was ready to settle down with you. You don’t understand how fucking different everything was with you, and when I realized how important you were to me, it was too late. I know I don’t have any right to be upset because I was the one who fucked everything up, but these past months I have been irrationally mad at you. I felt that you were taking my future with you away from me” he said laughing at himself. I was surprised by his words.
“I know, it’s a shitty though.” He continued when he saw my unbelieving face. “but these couple months have been awful, I haven’t felt like this before. I went to therapy and I realized that I’ve been sabotaging my relationships for a very long time. I didn’t think of it as a problem but then, I lost you and our relationship, and everything changed.” I kept quiet, astonished by his words.
“Chris…”
“No! Please, let me tell you something first. I’m sorry, for everything; for making you go through all of that, for not loving you how you deserve to be loved. I’m going to regret what I did for the rest of my life. I just want you to know that I truly loved you. Fuck! I’m still in love with you, I guess this kind of love doesn’t go away so easily.” He said, making my eyes get wet.
“Why didn’t tell me anything of this before?” It was everything I could say.
“Because you were right; what we had, wasn’t going in the right direction. You deserved better. And to be honest I was afraid to see you again, I wanted to leave you alone as you told me and even now, I’m not sure I’m going to be able to do that.” His speech left mute. I didn’t know why I came and now I wasn’t feeling any better.
I got up, and without a word I started to walk back to his house; I could feel his anxiety for my silence, but he didn’t say anything.
“It wasn’t all bad, was it?” I said in a try to cool off the situation.
“You were the best part of my life, honey. Of course, it wasn’t all bad!” he said uncomplainingly. That took every word off of my mouth.
After a big deep breathe I said, “I’m sorry for being so cold in our relationship.” He tried to stop me, but I didn’t let him. “I’m not very good at showing love, I know it hurt you in order of how you are, but I really tried to make it better.” I knew he hate that about me, not just avoiding the word -I love you- but I used to avoid expressing every feeling. I was a very lonely person so I didn’t know how to do it.
“I love every aspect of you, honey. You shouldn’t feel sorry for anything” he said. I knew he was right but I couldn’t help it.
“I should leave, it’s getting too late. I’m sorry for bothering you.” I said, he looked confused, but he didn’t say anything. We walked back to his house silently.
“Can I ask you something?” he asked when we were getting close to his entry’s house. I nodded “Why you came? It’s not like I don’t love to see you or know about you, but it was unexpected. And I don’t believe you came to say sorry.” He commented.
I didn’t answer right away. I didn’t have a reason to come.
“I honestly don’t know.” I said after a couple minutes. ”I saw a billboard announcing your new film. I remembered you. I started to think about you, about us. I just felt the need to see you.” I explained. He nodded and opened the door. “Give me a second, I will give you a ride,” before I could say no, he was inside the house.
I waited for him, getting close to his car and I remembered the first time he brought me to this house, I just moved to NY at that time, and we weren’t anything more that friends. He was being so talkative during our way to this house, which it wasn’t odd, but something told me he was overexcited.  We spent literally every minute of the week together, he was a fun guy to be around, and the sex was explosive. The last night, he set up a romantic dinner in the garden and showed me what he was so excited about.
“What’s this?” I asked surprised, holding the little box he handed me.
“It’s a gift.” He said simply, smiling at me. “Come on! Open it.”
It was a pendant, the one we saw in London, when I was visiting him while he was filming. After our first date in the airport, we kept in touch by texting, when he had to fly back to London for work, he asked me to visit him. We went for a walk one day and we passed by an antique jewelry store. I realized it was similar to one pendant my mom used to wear, I didn’t know he was paying me attention.
“It’s beautiful!” I just could say.
“It is! Just like you.” I wasn’t sure what was the meaning of the gift, that weekend in London was months ago. He saw my expression and kept talking. “I knew this was going to make you happy. I want to make you happy. Just you.” He was asking for exclusivity, and I wanted the same thing. I couldn’t say anything because he spoke” You don’t need to say anything right now…” I kissed him deeply before he could continue. I straddled him “Should I assume you want the same thing?” he said between kisses. I nodded smiling while he moved us to the seat next to the outdoor fireplace. He rolled my skirt up in my waist, leaving my butt free just covered it by his hands. He felt my uncomfortableness and said, “Don’t worry, nobody can see us.”  I looked at him questioningly by his conviction. “I promised. Trust me.” he said kissing my neck. ”Do you trust me?” he asked again. I did, I trusted him, I’ve sent him nudes, told him my deepest secrets or my filthiest thoughts. “I do” I simply said.
Trusting him became our biggest issue, maybe our only one, but it was enough to break us.
I missed him.
In the car, he asked me where I was staying, and he drove us through L.A’s midnight.
“Are you seeing somebody?” he asked suddenly after I quite long conversation about my promotion and his new project. “You don’t have to answer. I’m sorry if it’s too nosy.”
“No.” I answered, and a little smile appeared on his face. “Are you happy about my loneliness?” I joked, he chuckled.
When arrived, I said goodbye and got out of the car. I didn’t hear him getting out too.
“Hey” he called. Holding me from my arm. “Is it too bold to ask you out?” he saw my surprising face and kept on “Maybe when you are back in NY, I could go and have a date.” He spoke rapidly.
“Do you think it’s a good idea?” I wasn’t sure about what to say, I wanted to yell yes, but leaving him was the most painful thing I’ve done. I couldn’t handle it again.
“I don’t know. To be honest I just really need you in my life again. I feel completely empty without you.” He spoke. “You don’t have to answer right now. Just think about it. Okay?” He said, I nodded, and he started to walk back to his car. Before he could leave me again, the words just came out of my mouth without any warning. “Yes”
He turned over to see me again “Are you sure?” he looked surprised. “Yes”
“I can wait.” He said with a big smile in his face. “I don’t think I can.”

Head resting in your hand and elbow resting on the counter, you huffed, still not used to the heat that accumulated in the store throughout the day and praying for just one customer to walk through the door so you could experience a refreshing blast of evening air. You supposed you could go outside yourself to cool off a little, like Keishin had previously suggested in lieu of sticking your head in one of the fridges, but being the only person at the store currently, you felt a little bad about leaving the building, even if it was just to step out front.
You were still trying your best to put on a good impression for Mrs. Sakanoshita—despite the rough first impression you had made on her son—and you knew the family store was precious, so you decided to suck it up for the remainder of your shift.
Without much to do, since you had completed your chores early, you remained seated at the front counter, bored out of your mind. That was, until your prayers were answered and you heard the front doors slide open.
“Hello!” you greeted happily, ready to welcome a customer. Your radiant excitement faded when you noticed it was just Keishin, however, and went back to slumping on the counter. “Oh, it’s just you.”
“Wow, those rapid mood changes must be why we’ve been so busy lately,” Keishin shot back at you, a cigarette hanging from his mouth like usual. “Will the girl behind the counter smile or frown at you? Maybe it’ll be both. Oh, how exciting!”
“Can it, dye job,” you grumbled.
Keishin feigned hurt, his hand resting over his chest dramatically as he pretended to have been shot. “Words hurt, you know. You’ve hurt me.”
“That doesn’t matter,” you told him, lazily gesturing around the empty store. “What does matter is that we’ve been dead for hours and I’m bored.”
Keishin poked his bottom lip out and faked a pout. “Awh, poor baby. Is getting paid to sit there and do nothing hard work? You must be exhausted. Poor thing.”
“I don’t get paid nearly enough to put up with you.” You reached across the counter to lightly smack his shoulder but he jumped out of the way just in time. “Seriously though, stay and entertain me for a while.”
“If you’re that bored, why don’t you dust the vents or something?”
You laid your head down on the counter and exhaled slowly for effect. “You know I aim to please but that sounds like hell. Can’t you just talk to me for like ten minutes? Tell me about your day or something.”
Keishin threw his head back and groaned loudly. “But I’m too hungry to think about anything other than food right now.”
“I’m hungry too but you don’t see me complaining about it.”
“No, you’re just complaining about everything else.” He leaned against the other side of the counter, his tongue flicking against the tip of his cigarette as he thought. “Actually, I’ve got a better idea.”
You glanced up at him, waiting for him to elaborate. “I doubt it but proceed.”
Done with your constant back talk, which was extremely common between the two of you ever since you had worked out your differences and agreed to the deal he had suggested, he took a drag of his cigarette and blew the smoke directly into your face. “Just shut up and listen, will you?”
You coughed when you accidentally inhaled the second-hand smoke. “If I get cancer and die, I’m haunting you.”
“Go ahead.” He didn’t pay any attention to the words leaving your mouth as he headed into the back room and shut off the store lights. Then, with his own set of keys in hand, he headed back toward the front of the store. “Come on.” He looked back at you expectantly when you didn’t immediately follow.
Confused, you slowly stepped around from the back of the counter. “Where are we going?”
“We’re closing up early and going to get something to eat.”
You narrowed your eyes at him, half of you wondering if this was some sort of employee test to see how responsible you were. “Are we allowed to do that?”
“I am, you aren’t,” Keishin said, beckoning you over to him. “But let’s just keep this between you and I, yeah? What my mom doesn’t know won’t hurt her. Besides, it’s slow anyway.”
Taking off your white apron and grabbing your things, you reluctantly followed the older man out of the store and watched as he locked up behind the two of you. Anxiously, you shifted your weight from foot to foot. “Are you sure I won’t get in trouble for this?”
“I promise I won’t tell on you,” Keishin assured you as he stuffed the keys back into his pocket and dropped his cigarette bud to the ground before crushing it with his foot. “Let’s go. I’m starving.”
Falling into pace beside Keishin as the two of you set off down the sidewalk, you following his lead, you weren’t sure exactly sure what to say or even if you should say something. Never before had you and Keishin existed outside of the store together and it felt a little awkward.
“So . . . is this like a date or something?” You regretted the words as soon as they left your mouth. What you had meant to come across as a casual inquiry ended up sounding more like a desperate girl clarifying what she meant to the boy she liked. You sounded like a child.
The corners of Keishin’s mouth curled upward and he shrugged. “Call it whatever you want.” He really didn’t seem to care one way or another. “Although, I’d be a horrible boyfriend if I didn’t take you out at least once . . . fake or not.”
You nearly choked on your spit at the use of the word ‘boyfriend’. Even though you had been pretending to date him for the purposes of changing your parents’ ideals for the past few weeks, you were still caught off guard every time Keishin referred to himself as your boyfriend—even though he was usually doing it to mock you.
“Yeah, just awful,” you agreed halfheartedly. “Where are we going anyway?”
“This little place that I like,” he said, his answer extremely vague until he continued. “Best ramen I’ve ever had.”
After a few more minutes of walking, the two of you arrived at the place Keishin was talking about and he ordered two take-out bowls and paid for them both, insisting that you should try his regular order since you had never been there before. Not wanting to disagree because he was footing the bill, you let him do what he wanted and tailed him out to a picnic table outside like an obedient puppy.
“It’s much too hot to eat inside,” Keishin reasoned as he plopped down on the opposite side of the picnic table from you. “Plus, it’s nice outside. Might as well enjoy the weather while it lasts, right?”
“Right.” You nodded.
While Keishin dug right into his meal, you sat still, hands in your lap, and watched him. One thing you had quickly come to realize was that Keishin was the perfect specimen for people watching, and not just because he was relatively easy on the eyes. He was an interesting person; for example, how he tucked half-smoked cigarettes behind his ear to smoke later or how he always wore a headband to keep his hair out of his face but vehemently refused to just cut his damn hair.
Even though you bugged him about cutting his hair all the time, you secretly hoped he would continue to stand his ground and refuse because you wanted to see what he looked like with his hair down. You also wanted to run your hands through his hair—it looked soft and fluffy—but that was besides the point.
“Hey, it’s gonna get cold,” Keishin snapped you out of your thoughts, his mouth half full of ramen as he jabbed his chopsticks in your direction. “Don’t tell me you don’t like ramen. You should have said something before I ordered for both of us.”
Snapping out of your daze, you picked up your chopsticks and shook your head. “No, I like ramen.” You took a bite to prove your point. “Sorry, I was just lost in thought.”
Keishin waited for you to eat a little more before digging for your consensus. “Good, right?”
“Yeah, really good,” you agreed. “I always walk past this place but I’ve never gone inside.”
“I was the same way. It doesn’t really catch your eye, so unless you’re looking for it, it’s easy to miss,” he said. “Then one day my grandpa took me here for my birthday and I’ve been coming ever since.”
You snickered. “Popular date spot then?”
Keishin cocked a brow. “What?”
“I mean, if you come here a lot, I’m sure it’s a go-to for dates,” you continued. “It even comes with a wholesome story about how your grandpa introduced you to it. Ultimate chick magnet.”
Keishin just rolled his eyes at you. “You know, contrary to popular belief, most girls don’t like it when you take them out to eat cheap ramen on a picnic table that’s falling apart.”
You chuckled. “I wasn’t going to say anything about the table, but I’m pretty sure I have at least ten splinters in my ass by now.”
“Yeah, this thing is torture. So eat fast and then we’ll move to the park across the street or something.”
Shoveling the rest of your food into your mouth, you ate fast while Keishin stared you down, every second that passed introducing your butt to a new world of pain. As soon as you were done, Keishin took both of your take-out bowls and tossed them into a nearby trashcan.
“Well, sucks for all those other girls then, because that ramen really is amazing,” you said when Keishin returned, the two of you crossing the street and heading into the park.
“Told you.” Keishin smiled. “I’m glad you liked it.”
Once in the park, which was empty considering it was dark out and most kids were in bed by then, the two of you picked a nearby bench that wasn’t splintering and took a seat.
Drawing your knees up to your chest, you wrapped your arms around your legs and sighed. “Thanks for dinner.”
“Yeah, no problem.” He let his head fall back and looked up at the night sky. “Damn, I could really go for an ice cold beer right now.”
“Well, we could start heading back now if you want,” you suggested. “The beers at the store are extra chilly since I didn’t stick my head in the fridges to cool off today, despite how sweltering it was.”
Keishin laughed. “Well, thank you for that,” he drew in a deep breath and relaxed into the bench, deciding whether to get up or not. “Let’s stay here for a while longer though.”
“Okay.”
Silence fell over the two of you as you stared up at the sky and listened to the sounds of Miyagi in the evening. You tried to remember the last time you had gone out like this—just going wherever you wanted and doing whatever you wanted. You couldn’t recall the last time . . . or even if there was a last time.
Tilting your head to look at Keishin, you smiled at the sight of him sitting with his eyes closed, arms crossed behind his head and head lolled back. He looked happy, almost as peaceful as he did when he was sleeping.
“Hey,” you whispered.
Keishin cracked an eye open to look at you. “Hmm?”
“Thanks for tonight.” You breathed in the scent of the night air and a feeling of content washed over you. “As you’ve probably already figured out, I don’t really have any friends. I don’t get to go out like this very often . . . or ever, really.”
“You don’t need to thank me. It’s what boyfriends are for, right?”
You giggled. “Well, considering you’re not my real boyfriend, I think a ‘thank you’ is in order.”
“Well, you’re welcome,” he caved. “Speaking of fake boyfriends, how’s it going with your parents?”
You let out a frustrated moan. “Oh, about as well as expected. When I mentioned I was seeing someone they bombarded me with a million questions, none of which were answered to their satisfaction.”
Keishin cringed. “So I’m that bad, huh?”
You scoffed. “If you think that’s bad, you should have seen their faces when I showed them a photo of you.”
Keishin let out a laugh. “Don’t tell me they weren’t fans of the piercings?”
“Oh, they weren’t fans of anything,” you said. “I think the only positive thing they could say about you was that you had a pulse . . . no offense.”
“Eh, no worries. At least they didn’t call me a burnout . . . then I would have started crying.”
“Hey!” You smacked at his shoulder again, managing to hit your target this time. “I said I was sorry.”
“Sorry doesn’t pay for my therapy.”
“Yeah, well, if you need therapy I doubt I’m the biggest reason.”
“You really are so cruel to me. Do your parents know you facilitate abusive relationships?”
You closed your eyes and shook your head. “That insinuates I’ve had past relationships, or any real ones.”
Keishin craned his neck to look at you, eyes wide. “Wait, you’ve never been in a relationship before? Like never?”
“Nope. I don’t even have any friends, so what makes you think anyone wants to date the boring girl with the crazy parents?”
Keishin looked at you like you were some wounded animal he had just found on the side of the road. You could see in his eyes he was slowly coming to terms with just how isolating your life was. You could tell he felt bad, but the last thing you wanted was his sympathy.
“Hey, don’t look at me like that,” you told him. “I’m not completely pathetic, okay? I still went through my experimental phase like most teenagers do. I just had to be very sneaky about it.”
“Sneaky?”
“You know, back of a car, other people’s houses when their parents were gone. As far as my parents know, I’m untainted . . . a precious, naive virgin. I’m just not very experienced.”
“I can imagine.” Keishin was a little thrown by the direction the conversation had taken, but you were both adults and he would be lying if he said he wasn’t a little curious, so he just rolled with it. “High school boys aren’t exactly known for being great in bed.”
The two of you let out a shared laugh at that. “You got that right,” you agreed.
“So, wait, no relationships but you’ve had sex? So you’ve never been with someone you have a genuine connection with?”
You eyed Keishin, perplexed by the sudden sincerity in his words. “You didn’t peg me as someone who cares about that kind of stuff.”
“I mean, I’ve had my fair share of one night stands, sure, but I’m not completely heartless,” he said, the eye contact he was using while he spoke sending a chill down your spine. “It’s completely different when it’s someone you care about. The experience is something everyone should have at least once in their lives.”
“I don’t think I’ve ever had a genuine connection with anyone before,” you confessed, unsure why you were spilling some of your deepest secrets in public, on a park bench, to a man you had only known for a couple of months. “It’s kind of hard when everyone is held at an arm’s length away.”
Without warning, Keishin shifted closer to you and placed his hand on your face, the pad of his thumb ghosting over your bottom lip. “I . . . I don’t know what to say,” he breathed.
“It’s not sad, not for me at least. You can’t miss something you’ve never had,” you spoke softly, worried you might scare him away if your voice was too loud or if you made any sudden movements. “No best friends, no boyfriends. Just me, my parents, and everyone else.”
Keishin looked like he wanted to say something; in fact, he looked like he wanted to say a lot of things, but despite this, he remained silent. Maybe he was worried about offending you, or maybe he was finally understanding just how different you were from other people. Maybe he didn’t like different.
“But now there’s you.” You flashed a small smile, hoping to draw him out of whatever mess was going on inside of his head. “I’ve never met someone like you before.”
“Someone like me?” he finally spoke.
You nodded as you placed your hand over the one he was resting on your cheek and held it. “I’m not your responsibility and yet you’re going out of your way to help me. Not to mention I don’t even deserve your help. You are the first truly selflessly kind person I’ve ever met. Thank you.”
“What if I’m not as kind as you think I am?” His hands found their way to your waist and he pulled you into his lap so you were straddling him. “What will you do then?”
“That depends on what you’re planning on doing.”
Hands running up your sides, Keishin dug his finger tips into your skin as you lowered your head toward his, mouths inches apart. “What if I took you home, laid you down, and took care of you like a boyfriend should?” You could feel his hot breath on your face as he spoke. “What if I took advantage of your lack of experience?”
“I would say thank you,” you said, inching closer. Before your lips met, however, you stopped yourself. “But I promised not to fall in love, and I think it would be awfully hard to keep my promise if you did that.” With that, you planted your hands on his shoulders and pushed yourself away from him before he could make a decision he would later regret.
Standing up, you collected yourself and drew in a deep breath. As soon as you had detached yourself from Keishin, you could see the fog that had been clouding his judgement dissipating as he came back to his senses.
“I should probably head home now.” You decided, not wanting to ruin the first actual friendship you had by doing something stupid and selfish.
“Yeah.” Keishin nodded, slowly standing up as well. It was clear he was slightly embarrassed by his actions, but you also noticed the glint in his eyes that gave away the part of him that still wanted to take you home with him.
Trying to immediately leave what had just happened in the past, you smiled and turned to start heading home, opting to take the longer way so you wouldn’t have to take the same route as Keishin. “Good night, Keishin.”
“Good night, Y/N.” You heard him call after you, but you didn’t look back at him. Instead, you kept walking, hoping the time apart would serve as a reset on your relationship and put things back to how they had been before that night.
A few weeks ago, you would have jumped at the chance Keishin had dangled in front of your face just now. But since then, you had realized he was more important to you than someone you could just throw away with a one night stand. And since there was no way the two of you could actually be together, this was the only option if you didn’t want to lose him.
If only someone had warned you that genuine connections were this complicated.

Game Night...
(Heads I win...Tails you lose)
Synopsis: Game night at Erik’s crib with a twist...
Pairing: Erik Stevens x Plus size OC
Warning: Language, Smutt
A.N- Inspiration was this picture
Tumblr media
It was Game Night at Erik’s. He held them every other Saturday night and it was starting to become a ritual for Kaila to attend within the last month. When being surrounded by coworkers ,who became good friends, food, drinks, and music how could anyone turn down a time like this. Along with his beautiful luxurious bachelor’s pad Erik made a pretty good host.
Everything from wings with different flavors, a meat and cheese board, warm soft cinnamon pretzel bites, chicken and beef quesadillas, as well as different chocolates and chilled high class wine ,that Kaila wasn’t used to, had covered his antique walnut wooden dining table. Like she thought, he was a great host who had great taste and wasn’t cheap at all.
Standing in front of the miniature buffet with an empty plate Kaila was indecisive on what to get and how much. Still fresh to the friend group she was conscious on how much she ate in front of people that she wasn’t really comfortable with yet. Out of the six times she’s been here this was only her second time eating with them after getting pressured by her cubicle buddy ,Celina, telling her to make a plate before everything was gone.
Hearing the chatter coming from the livingroom, Kaila decided on a few slices of the quesadillas instead of the wings. She didn’t want to look like a pig knowing that she would try to suck the sauce off of her fingers afterwards. Filling up her red plastic cup with the cool wine she headed back into the huge living area. Spotting her purse and coat she sat in her spot and cuddled up with her belongings.
“See I told you, the food is good.” Celina smiled while sipping on her wine. She brought a hand to her hair stroking the box braids and giggled.
Kaila noticed that she had three cups prior so she knew that she was starting to become loose.
Laughing with her, Kaila shook her head and dug into her finger food. Looking at the small group she wondered how she was able to fit in with them. The group consisted of three women and three guys, Erik including as one of them. Every single person in their clique was extremely attractive and in shape. Her body type did not belong at all. There was always rumors going around the office about them setting up date nights to throw orgy parties. At least that’s what people assumed because they were so tight and never invited anyone else.
But Kaila had to take a chance and ask, since her desk buddy was a part of the famous group. So one day she asked Celina if it was true only to earn one of the most hysterical laughs in her face. She shut it down immediately and informed her the reason behind their closeness was because they all trained and got hired for their jobs at the exact same time and have been inseparable since.
Celina thought it was funny and invited her out so she could see that she wasn’t lying. Kaila refused the first few times but gave in after Celina had another one of their members, Leah, tag team against her insisting that she’d come. Kaila wasn’t an extrovert at all. Her regular day included work, talking on the phone with her baby sister who was away for college, and tv time with her cat, Snuggles. But she wanted to change that so she made Game Night at Erik’s a part of her weekend routines.
“Y’all mufuckas ready to get this bitch started.” Erik walked in finally making his presence known after being upstairs for half an hour. He was changed out of his work attire into something more relaxed. Nike grey sweats, a crisp white tshirt with his gold chains falling over it, and his Nike slides to match. His dreads were out of the braids that he only kept in while he was at work, now they were wild and free.
Kaila took in his frame. She watched as his muscles flexed from the slightest movements. Twisting open his personal bottle of Hennessy, she watched him take a long swig and shaking his head at the taste afterwards. She did a short giggle when she seen him hiss making his gold canines show. When Erik’s eyes turn to her direction she quickly averted her gaze to everyone else praying that she didn’t get caught staring.
This crush that she had for him was starting to be too much. At first she thought it would go away once she would find out that his body and personality didn’t mix but it became worst when she started to hang out with them. Erik was nothing like how she thought of him to be. Before hand she for sure figured him out as a smug and arrogant jerk but he was the total opposite. He was such a gentleman, sweet, and a charmer when it came to the ladies.
The littlest things he did like hold the door for her, or making sure that she wasn’t the last one going into a building whenever they went out for lunch to grab coffee. Kaila was falling for all of it. But after hanging out with them for so long Kaila noticed a few things about him. Yes, Erik was a sweetheart but he had a rough edge to him. When the drinks were in his system Erik liked to talk his shit, and he was nasty with it too. Of course all of the girls in the group would openly let him know that he could fuck if he wanted to. All except Kaila, she would never make a statement as bold as that no matter how much alcohol she had.
“About time nigga. The hell was you doing back there?” One of the guys, Tyler asked sitting in between Leah’s legs on the floor.
“My shit, my business bitch ass nigga.” Erik retorted playfully. He walked in front of his coffee table sitting in his chair. On the table had a display of all types of games. He sorted through them taking his time.
“Erik hurry up and pick a gamee.” Celina whined as she still sipped.
Glancing up he eyed everyone briefly. “The fuck is it, rush Erik night or sumn shit. Y’all niggas know without this y’all wouldn’t have shit else to do so calm the fuck down for I throw all y’all ass out.” He laughed drinking out his bottle.
“Hold up I didn’t say shit. I hope that’s not for everyone.” The thick dark skin girl who’s name was Keisha came in and sat down. Kaila thought she was the prettiest.
“Nah not you Keisha, you know you my boo.” He smirked.
She giggled doing the “period” motion with her hand. Kaila smiled sitting her plate on the floor beside her making a mental reminder to throw it away before she leaves.
Erik cleared his throat picking up a box. “Aight I got one. Do or Drink!” Sitting the other games to the side he placed the box in the middle.
Groanes and curses came from the other people. Kaila faced them amused with their reaction wondering what was wrong with the game he chosed.
“No Erik you always pick this game.” Leah flopped her hands to the side of her.
“Yeah I don’t like this one bae. You be making everybody drink and get drunk while playing this. Can we play something else.” Keisha sighed picking up her glass.
“No y’all only get drunk cause y’all mufuckas don’t know how to drink or hold ya liquor. Besides she ain’t never played this with us yet.” He spoke sorting the cards.
All of the attention went towards Kaila. Trying her best to shrink in her side of the couch she felt her cheeks heat up. Kaila hated when she was put on the spotlight in front of everybody. Bringing her cup to her mouth she sipped some hoping to calm her nerves.
“Kaila you ain’t never played this with us?” Troy asked.
Shaking her head she smiled timidly. “No but I guess I will tonight.”
“Kaila the game is real simple, all you have to do is draw a card, read it aloud so that everyone can hear you and you can either choose to do what it says or drink instead. Don’t worry about all that extra shit. Got it?” Erik asked her shuffling the deck.
“Yeah I got it.” She answered softly.
When he eyed her up and down part of her had to clenched her thighs to keep the wetness she felt down there from damping her panties and the other part wanted to run away from his gaze. The way he looked with his dreads covering his eyes was so enticing and it had her excited. Something she haven’t felt with a man in almost two years.
There was an order on how the rotation went. It was Celina, Keisha, Troy, Tyler, Leah, Erik, and lastly Kaila. She was okay with going last just to see how the game was to be played. It was easy to catch on to after the first few turns. Some of the draws that Kaila picked up were to risky for her so she had to drink for not doing them. Because she didn’t drink hard liquor Erik allowed her to take shots of the wine but for everyone else it was either tequila or some of his Hennessy. She was definitely starting to feel warm from the drinking she’s been doing.
Now it was going on the second round and it was Leah’s go,she had to draw a card. “Okay it says let the group go through your phones photo gallery for 60 seconds. Do this or take two shots?” She threw her card down looking for the shot glass.
Erik jumped up from his seat. “Unh uh hand it over. You passed the last time. Gimme your fuckin phone.” He chuckled walking near her.
Kaila laughed watching Leah try to keep her phone away from him but failed due to his tall and bulky stature taking it clean straight out of her hands. He held the IPhone to her face unlocking it and went to her gallery. Erik’s eyes went from entertained to lustful within seconds. Sucking in his bottom lip he glanced back at Leah.
“Damn girl. Yo shit pretty as fuck.” His low voice crept throughout the room. His eyes traveled down to her covered area.
Kaila, knowing what he was referring to, felt herself get jealous and turned on at the same time. She wanted him to look at her like that and speak to her the same way but she was to shy to say anything.
“Nigga let me see.” Tyler hopped up standing next to him. His mouth dropping when he saw whatever that was on the screen. “Damn Leah.”
Rolling her eyes Leah snatched her phone from their view. “Okay y’all niggas not bout to be fantasizing over my pussy.” She sat back on her end of the couch.
Erik shook his head walking to his chair. Picking up a card he read silently before trying to pick a new one. Celina sat up when she saw him and called him out.
“Uh Erik you never skip cards. What you doing baby boy?” She sat on the edge.
Erik smack his lips. “Nah not that one. Plus it’s my shit I could do whatever I want.” He spoke lowly going to the next card.
Keisha got up walking over to him. “No let me see the card because I ain’t never seen you skip one a day since I met you.” She tried picking it up but Erik snatched it away.
“Chill Keisha, watch out.” He grabbed her wrist lightly.
Keisha laughed. “Boy stop playing with me and let me see.”
Distracted by her going back and forth with him Erik wasn’t aware of Celina sneaking around the other side of him and successfully grabbing the card. She ran behind the couch and read it.
“Let’s see why Stevens was act like a pussy.” She slurred her words. “It’s says motorboat the person to the right of you for 15 seconds, even if they don’t have boobs. Do this or take three shots?”
Everyone looked to the right of him. Sitting at the end of the couch left only one person, Kaila. For the second time that night all eyes was on her. She wished that she could find a hole to crawl in and just die but that wasn’t possible for her. Hearing Celina read the card had her wishing that she would have just left it alone when he skipped the first time. She was embarrassed but she didn’t know if it was because the card dared him to put his face in her titties or that he wanted to skip the turn.
“Celina sit your drunk ass down and just leave the card alone.” Leah grabbed her arm and pulled her down.
“Oops sorry.” She burped putting the card back.
There was silence for a few minutes. For almost the whole night Kaila skipped her turn or declined when someone had to do something to her causing them to lose. She didn’t want to be the party pooper of the hour so she spoke up.
“You can do it if you want.” Her voice coming out lightly. Avoiding the stares from the others her eyes stayed on Erik’s.
His brows lifted up surprised. “Look don’t let Celina’s drunk ass pressure you into something you not down for Kaila.” The way he said her name made her squirm and Erik peeped it himself.
“She wasn’t but if you don’t want to I get it-“ She stopped her sentence when he stood up from his chair.
His body was now in front of hers. Kaila couldn’t help quickly glancing at the print that stuck out through his sweats. The feeling of his hand under her chin tilted it up startled her a bit.
“You wanna do this out here or we can go somewhere private? It’s up to you.”
The room was now quiet as everyone watched the two under the influence and yet still drinking from their cups. Kaila nodded as she stood up signaling that she would rather do it somewhere not in front of them. Stepping to the side she went in front of him and felt his hand on the small of her back.
“Don’t take longer than 15 seconds.” Celina laughed sticking her tongue out when they briefly looked back at her.
Kaila looked around aimlessly as Erik led her down his dark hallway. The only thing that could be seen was the faint wall art from the infrequent lightening outside that came through his windows due to the rainstorm they were going to have tonight. The closer they were to their destination the more the butterflies in Kaila’s stomach start to appear one by one.
“Here we are.” Erik pushed a tall black door opened revealing his master bedroom.
Kaila didn’t stop her eyes from wondering as she looked around. The theme color to his room was black and red. His king sized bed was placed in the middle with a Versace Medusa logo cover resting on top. Laying on the ground next to it was a large black and gold Persian rug. But what caught her attention was the wide mirror that was over his bed.
“You have a nice room Erik.” She sent him a light smile standing in the middle of the floor.
Erik closed his door with the weight of his body. He smirked watching her stand there timidly barely keeping eye contact with him. Erik knew that Kaila had some sort of crush on him but he never said anything about it because he didn’t want to embarrass her. She was always shy around him but was okay with talking to everyone else in the group. Erik couldn’t stand that shit. Watching her round face give her sweet smile to Troy and Tyler always made him jealous. He wanted to be the one to put it on her face but could never get the chance with her always running away from him.
Before she became a part of their group Erik already noticed Kaila around the office. The curve of her wide hips and thickness of her thighs that she would cover up lured him into her. There would be days when she wasn’t wearing her turtleneck and he could finally get a peak at her smooth and chocolate double D’s along with a whiff of her perfume. Erik’s mouth would began to salvitate as he became curious wondering how they would taste. Now he had the chance.
“Thank you. I appreciate that baby.” He chuckled walking to stand in front of her.
Kaila’s eyes averted down at the new pet name. Looking back up, his russet eyes met her chestnut colored ones. His teeth held the full bottom flesh between them. The moment she inhaled for the first time with their closeness Kaila smelled his cologne that sent signals down to her vagina. She could feel the sticky wetness that he was created and he hadn’t even touch her. Her chest rose and fell as her breath hiked up.
“So you ready? It’s only 15 seconds.” The sound of his deep voice had her doing kegals on an imaginary dick.
“Yeah let’s do this.”
The sudden movements of his hands going up to her breast spooked her. Wearing an off the shoulder ribbed dark grey long sleeve tub top Kaila was able to feel his fingertips against her skin. She did a soft moan from the contact hoping that he didn’t hear.
“Big ass fucking titties.” Erik spoke out loud not caring if she heard him or not.
He began to grope them. Bringing his hands to the cuff of them he played with her breast. Lifting them up and down. All of a sudden he was like a kid in a candy store. Kaila could feel her nipples harden on his hands, that frequently rubbed against them. She bit her lip.
Erik smirked watching her get aroused in front of him. He could feel the pebbles turning into rocks from his touch and when he saw her suck on her bottom lip his dick jumped. Wasting no time he lifted her breast up and dove straight in face first. With the combination or her soft titties and her scent Erik’s dick started to get rock hard. He knew then that he now wanted to add titty fucking to the list of nasty shit he wanted to do to her.
“Mm.” Kaila tried her best hide her moan. She didn’t want him to think she was a prude for moaning at something as little as this. It was all a part of a game for goodness sake, but she couldn’t help it. Reaching up she gripped his dreads holding on to him while he moved his head side to side.
The fifteen seconds was long and over with but he was still down there. What was only supposed to be a quick playful motorboat session turned into love bites and delicate sucks. Erik took his time placing a kiss on to each breast. Tracing his tongue over them and then giving a soft suck. He could hear her trying to suppress her moans, but he was working for them and wanted to hear them clearly.
Reaching behind her he slid his hands around her thick waist and then traveled down to her ass. Gripping her cheeks roughly through her leggings he pulled her body into his pressing her down on his thick and solid member. Still continuing his sucks on her breast he groaned hearing her give in.
“Erikk.” Kaila felt the flutters in her stomach and her toes curl when she felt his package bump her area.
“Hmm?” He was now moving up to her exposed neck never losening his grip on her ass.
“The game.” Her words came out as a whine.
“Fuck it. You can’t tell me you not tryna let me fuck right now. Letting me suck on you and shit. I know you wet as fuck down there.” The confidence he spoke with had her dripping even more.
Kaila brought her hands up to his biceps. She turned her head to give him more space to kiss. Squeals left her mouth every time he would grip her cheeks separating them. Kaila wanted to submit badly but was still undecided as she worried about the others listening to what could happen in this room.
Erik pulled away from her seeing that she was hesitant. That’s when an idea popped into his head. His dick was too hard for him to leave without feeling any type of warmth. Going into his nightstand he found the coin and flipped it before walking back to her.
“Alright I have this coin here that’ll decide on what I can receive from you. Since you’re so worried about that dumb ass game out there. We can play our own.”
Kaila’s knitted with confusion but she was curious.
“What type of game?” Her soft voice asked.
Erik licked his lips as she watched hers move. He tugged on her lower lip with his thumb and index finger before showing her the coin and handing it to her.
“If it flips on head I get some pussy and if it flips on tails I get some head. You down?” Stepping in her space he bent his head kissing on her neck. She was so soft to him and it was hard for him to stop.
Kaila observed the gold naughty coin. She never tried anything like this in her 24 years of living. It was new and exciting and with Erik being the person behind it tempting her, she wanted to give it a chance.
“Okay. You flip?” She handed the coin back rubbing her sweaty palms up and down her black leggings.
Taking the coin he strolled over to his bed. Sitting on the edge of it he patted the space next to it offering her a seat. Kaila worked up the nerve to walk over from the liquid courage that she was feeling from the wine. It was making her feel frisky and horny all in one. She sat next to him and smiled sheepishly.
Erik leaned back and smirked. He wrapped an arm behind her as he got ready to flip the coin. “Heads I win...Tails you lose.” He chuckled as she understood the double meaning.
He tossed it up just a few feet above them and caught it quickly with the same hand.
“Hold your hand out.” He demanded and placed the coin flat on her palm. There was a pause for a few seconds before he lifted his hand. It landed on tails.
“Hope you know how to suck some dick.” He reached his hand behind her smacking her ass.
Kaila got up and stood in front of him. Rolling her eyes at his cockiness she pulled her braids up into a bun wrapping them around to keep them out of the way. She pushed him back causing him to lean on his elbows. Getting on her knees he started to rock his leg side to side. Tugging at his sweats she pulled them down along with his briefs making his semi-hard long and girthy length pop out. From the size alone Kaila got intimidated know that if he knew how to work with it he would make her go crazy.
Erik pulled on the hem of his shirt hiking it up to show his abs. He reached down grabbing the base of his dick whirling it back and forth. “I don’t wanna feel no teeth. You hear me?” His command coming out crystal clear.
Nodding her head Kaila leaned forward giving him a gentle kiss. The thick mushroom tip felt good against her lips. She hasn’t been with a man in almost two years so she wasn’t sure if she still had it. But tonight she would find out knowing that Erik would have no problem letting her know.
Getting her mouth wet she let a long sting of saliva drip on to his length. Sticking out her tongue she ran it against the sides wetting his stick up before taking him into her mouth whole. Erik was a challenge so she wasn’t going to get him down in one fit. She’d have to work her way down. She let him slide in and out of her mouth twirling her head when she would reach his tip. Taking one of her free hands she stroked his shaft while shoving her other hand in her leggings rubbing her clit. The feeling of having a dick grow in her mouth made Kaila’s pussy drip and nipples hard.
Looking up she watched as Erik kept his eyes on her. His jaws tightening from her locked jaw that she had on him. The ‘gawking’ sound coming from her made his balls jump. Erik’s eyes now became low as he reached for her braids unraveling the bun and created a ponytail with his fist.
“That’s how you sucking Daddy dick?” He asked surprise as he now sat up leaning on his free hand watching her perform her work of art.
When she felt him hit the back of her throat she answered him on purpose so that he could feel the vibrations. “Mmhm.”
“Ahh SHIT!” Erik threw his head back feeling how her throat had clenched around him. Kaila surprise the fuck out of him. He never expected a head monster behind that quiet little desktop bookworm facade she had put on, but everyone know that they be the main freaks.
She was sucking his shit sloppy just the way he liked it. Her tight warm jaws had his heads in the clouds. Kaila’s head game was starting to get so good Erik felt like he had to do or say something to throw her off.
“Let Daddy slut this muthafucking throat out....gah damnn.” Standing up he lifted his crisp white shirt up to his mouth tucking it in between his teeth. Grabbing her braids and making a ponytail with one hand he cupped her chin with the other as he fucked her throat.
When the spit began to run down her chin and hit her top it reminded Erik of her big chocolate melons that he wanted to fall asleep on. He had got to feel them now he wanted to see them.
“Pull them big ass fuckin titties out.” He spoke with his shirt still clenched in his teeth making his dimples show.
Kaila heard comply to his orders. She pulled the top down and her strapless bra up and began to play with her nipples for him. Using the spit that dripped on her chest she rubbed it on her pebbles as her mouth became wetter with her arousal. She brought a hand back into her pants and tweaked her nub.
Erik watched her play with herself knowing that head wasn’t the only thing he was trying to get from her for the night. If she could suck dick this good he only imagine what that pussy was feeling like.
“Mouth to fuckin good to not try and fuck. You gon give me sum pussy after?” His hips still stroking in her mouth. Kaila tried to push him out by his thighs but he pushed her hands away. “Move them fuckin hands and answer my question.”
Closing her eyes trying to breathe through her nose she nodded her head. Erik smirked as he pulled out of her mouth. Dick standing up and dripping with her saliva.
“Get yo ass on this bed.” He took off his shirt and stepped out of his sweats and underwear leaving him in his naked glory.
Kaila got on the bed, kicking of her shoes she laid on her back looking at herself in his mirror that was above them before she felt him pulling at her leggings. She squealed from the quick action lifting up to help him get them off. The moment the air touched her thighs she grew self conscious of her appearance. Erik noticed when he opened her thighs climbing between them.
“Instead of being worried bout how thick these thighs are you should be worried about how you gon take this dick.” He leaned up and tapped his heavy meat on her covered clit.
“Ooh.” Out of reaction Kaila moaned and shut her thighs closed.
Erik grabbing them and pushing them back to their previous position. “Unh uh. Open ya fuckin legs. I know you got some good warm wet ass pussy. I can feel the heat coming off that muthafucka and I ain’t pull ya panties to the side yet.”
His dirty talk was making her pussy throb. Kaila wanted to feel that heavy dick split her open even if she cried right after. Erik spoke with big dick energy because he know he had big dick to deliver.
“I want some dick.” Her shy hushed words coming out. Kaila didn’t usually speak like this but Erik brought it out of her.
He smirked and grabbed her the back of her thighs and lifted them up pushing them on her stomach. “Oh you gon get this dick, but I wanna eat this pussy first.”
Without warning he bent his head down between her thighs. Using his teeth he dragged her panties to the side. Kaila jump feeling his breath on her lower lips. She started to brace herself when she felt a long lick go up and down her slick coated slit. Taking his hand he used it to separate her meaty flesh. Her natural juices sticking to the sides
Erik groaned biting his lip. “Mm I know you be making niggas drown in this shit.” He watched her hole open and closed as he spoke to it.
Spitting on her clit he went straight to sucking on it. Erik had to stop her legs from snapping on his head. He used the all the upper strength he had to hold her thick thighs down all the while never letting up on her clit. Keeping his mouth around her he flicked the bud repeatedly. Her juices started to drip out already soaking his beard. The smell of her sex made his dick jump with anticipation. He was ready to feel her in some type of way. Bringing his tongue down he began to tongue fuck her tight hole. She clenched down on him as he slid in and out of her walls. Using his thumb he rubbed her clit adding to her pleasure
“Ohh fuuckk....I’m about to cum babyy.” Kaila covered her mouth to try and lower her whining moans but the way he stuck his tongue in her made it impossible.
“Let that shit out.” Smacking her inner thigh he went back sucking her clit. Erik felt how tight she was on his tongue. He knew he had to open her up a bit to get her ready for his dick. He took two fingers and slowly worked them into her.
Kaila lifted her hips to meet his strokes as she felt herself come undone on his fingers. The suction he was applying on her clit brought tears to her eyes. Her legs shook already giving out. Erik lifted up bringing his fingers to his mouth sucking her essence.
“I’ll have game night every day just to get up in this pussy.” He rubbed his tip against her clit. Using her natural lubricant he made himself slick enough and sat at her tight opening. Erik lifted her thighs back to as far as they were able to go and used the weight of his hips and thrusted inside of her.
“Ahh FUCK!! Gah damn. Wait a minute.” He pulled out instantly and closed his eyes. He chuckled lowly shaking his head. “You got me fucked up if you think I’m not beatin this shit down.” He gripped Kaila’s thighs pulling her to the edge of the bed. He had her at an angle and was standing up.
Kaila squeaked. “Erik wait don’t go too deep-“ She was cut off feeling him sink inside of her. Her arms flailing over as she gripped his sheet. Mouth ajar and formed into a silent ‘o’ as she felt herself getting stretched open to max she’s ever been.
Erik wasn’t playing when he said he was going to beat her pussy up. The size or weight of her body didn’t stand a chance to him. He was in beast mode as he drilled her shit in. Kaila’s cry’s and moans fell on deaf ears as he was hitting her spot. No matter how much pushing at his chest she did, it didn’t change the pace or motion he was going in. She had already came on his dick two times but that didn’t mean anything to him.
Kaila whimpered as she brought her hands to his hips to try and stop him. “Daddyyy please l-I can’t.” She brought a hand up to her mouth and bit on her knuckles.
Erik ignored her knowing that she was only speaking because of the sensitivity of her pussy started to probably grow higher the more he stroked her out. The minute he felt her pussy wrapped around his dick Erik got stuck. Her warm and gushy walls clenching him every time he tried to pull out. There was no way she wanted him out of this pussy.
“Move ya fucking hand and take some dick.” He barked as his dreads hung over his eyes and chain swung low. He pulled out tapping on her clit only to slide back in deeper this time.
“Unh..okayy.” She cried frustrated that she couldn’t run
He had her thick frame bended up like a pretzel. Looking between their bodies that was starting to sweat up, Erik watched the way he slid in and out of her. Her coat attached on to his dick. The way he could see her pussy throb around him. But the way she would involuntarily clenched her walls around him when he would pull out only leaving his tip in had her flipping Erik’s crazy switch.
Erik wanted to laugh when he saw the tremble in her lower lip and her tears coming out the corner of her eyes. He was giving her that good dick and he loved watching her get ruined in front of his face. Leaning over her he started to suck her nipples while his stroke never faltered.
Glancing up at the cieling Kaila watched him stroke deep inside of her in the mirror. The rotation of his hips along with his slight curve he had on his dick was sending her to another dimension. He was digging so deep inside of her it had her mind making up scenarios of having a family with him. It was the way he stroked her and fed on her nipples at the same time that had her seeing stars on his wall.
Kaila gripped his dreads. She moaned and whimpered with panted breaths. She couldn’t control the level of her voice. When his strokes were short and fast she’d moan but when he started tapping at her bottom her toes would curl and she’d whimpered and shake underneath him. Kaila didn’t have a clue when she would be able to find another person to hit it the way he did or if there would be another at all.
“Ohh daddy....you so deep in my pussy.” Her sexy moans in his ear had Erik ready to bust. He lifted from her tittes and gave her a nasty kiss. Tongue and all. Kaila moaned and clenched down onto him. Erik’s fingers dug into her skin and sucked on her lip.
“You gon let me nut in this tight ass pussy?” He whispered in her neck.
Kaila shook her head yes willing to agree with anything while he was laying that pipe on her. “Cum in me daddy.”
Erik wanted to hold off but the pussy was hitting too good. He stood back up and stroked until he bottomed out inside her. He’d always get his best nuts when he would go deep. Tucking his lip into his mouth his deep long strokes started to slow feeling his balls tightened. Erik closed his eyes when she gripped his meat and pulling his seed right out of him.
“Fuck!” He groaned and continued to stroke his nut out until he was empty. He pulled out of her with her cream coating his member.
His dick was still hard. Kaila was laying in the same position. Her thighs sore and unable to close from staying open that long. Sitting up she rested on her palms to observe him. Erik’s eyes was glued to her pussy before taking his hand and rubbing her clit.
“I can’t stay out this shit.” He licked his lips.
Kaila shyly smiled as she was about to speak when she heard laughing on the other side of the door.
“Now y’all niggas know them 15 seconds been up.” Celina stated loudly before laughing along with the others.
Her hand covered her mouth as embarrassment clouded her face. She pushed his hand away.
“See Erik I told you.” Kaila whined getting up.
“Wait, where you going?” He asked stepping in front of her.
“I’m going back to the game.”
“We not done here yet. Now come flip this coin to see what you could get. This head...or... this dick.”

Cassian was happier than he ever thought he’d be.
Over the past few weeks, he, Nesta, and Nyx had really become their own little family. It seemed that after all the heartache, after all the awkwardness, everything was falling into place.
Since that night they had slept together, again, Cassian had spent every night with Nesta in her bed, and awoken to her face every morning.
Cassian had been training his replacement at the bar, and the opening of his bar in Nesta’s restaurant was quickly approaching.
Perfect.
Everything was going perfectly.
It was a Saturday and both he and Nesta had off, which meant they got the rarity of spending the entire day together, just the three of them.
And it was Halloween.
There was a little Halloween carnival going on downtown, just outside of the Rainbow along the Sidra.
And although Cassian was happier than he ever thought he’d be, he did feel completely and utterly ridiculous as he looked in the mirror and saw his reflection, dressed in the Halloween costume that Nesta had bought for him.
It could have been worse, he decided, donning the floppy hat it had come with. He didn’t have paint all over his face and he wasn’t dressed as a dog, like Rhys had been the year prior. Just a smidge of eyeliner Nesta had coerced him into letting her put on him. And he may only have one hand, thanks to the “hook” he had to wear, but at least he had a bad ass looking sword.
Even if it was plastic.
Nesta appeared in the doorway, wearing a green dress and matching slippers, complete with white balls of fluff adorning the toes. “You about ready to go, Captain Hook?”
He slowly turned to look at her. “Is it the hair? Hmm? Are you one of those girls where long hair automatically means pirate?”
Nesta raised a brow as she crossed her arms. “Are you complaining?”
Cassian blinked. “These leather pants are so tight that I don’t think my balls are going to survive the day.”
Nesta’s grin was feral. “I promise to make it up to the boys once we’re back home.”
Cassian’s eyes narrowed. “Tease.”
“Not a tease,” she crooned. “A promise.”
She gave him a wink before leaving the room and walking down the hall. After a curse about how turned on he now was, Cassian followed.
At the bottom of the stairs in the living room, Nyx was standing up in his little Peter Pan costume. Cassian laughed, quietly. “You put the poor kid in tights.”
“He looks adorable!” Nesta hollered, from where she had disappeared in the kitchen.
Nyx looked at Cassian for a moment, slightly confused, but then recognition lit his eyes and he giggled, reaching up for his uncle. The second Cassian picked him up, Nyx was playing with his floppy hat.
“Pretty damn cute, alright,” Cassian said, chuckling. “Ready, Nes? Bands start playing soon. A couple of local bands I know will be playing, I think you’ll like them.”
Nesta swept out of the kitchen with a tiny cooler bag full of water, juice, and snacks. “Then let’s get going.”
After a short ride and a short walk, they entered the carnival and spotted Elain, Azriel, and Seph sitting in the grass, listening to the music. Azriel was dressed as Tigger, Elain was Pooh, and Seph was the cutest Piglet they had ever seen.
Cassian plopped down by Azriel and chuckled. “And I thought my costume was bad.”
Azriel looked over at him. “Shut up, Captain Jack.”
Cassian gasped indignantly. “I’m Captain Hook, you heathen.” He held up his left hand and shook the cheap, plastic hook in his face. “Get your pirates straight.”
The cousins were instantly squealing at each other, Seph having recently started crawling and Nesta couldn’t help but smile down at them as she sat next to Cassian. He slung an arm around her and pulled her into him, kissing the top of her head.
Nesta looked at Elain and caught her small smile, even though she tried to turn away before her older sister caught her. “What?” She asked, raising an eyebrow.
Elain shook her head, but that smile was still on her face. “Nothing.”
“Tell me,” Nesta said, leaning forward to see her around Cassian and Azriel.
“It’s just…” Elain blinked and Nesta could’ve sworn she saw tears shimmering in her sister’s eyes. “It’s just nice to see you happy.”
Nesta stilled for a moment. Was she happy? She supposed she was. It had all happened so quickly that Nesta hadn’t hardly realized.
She was happy.
Judging from his laughter with Azriel, and the way his fingers brushed along her skin, Nesta assumed that Cassian was happy, too.
“It’s a good thing, you know,” Elain whispered, when Nesta said nothing. “A very good thing.”
Nesta remained quiet, but she leaned into Cassian’s side with a little smile of her own.
The music began to play, and Nyx was having the time of his little life. He stood and danced, having no idea what was going on, but loving every second of it.
There were small tents set up around the carnival, passing out candy and other little toys and treats for the kids. Helion was there, at a tent sponsored by Nesta’s restaurant, handing out cookies and brownies she’d spent the past few days baking. Nesta had always loved Halloween, and having Nyx to enjoy it with made her love it all the more. They walked around while the bands continued to play, Nyx’s little bucket filling up with more candy and treats than the little boy could ever eat. Cassian ensured Nesta that it would not go to waste, but she just rolled her eyes.
“You know, I’ve always been a fan of Tinker Bell,” Cassian said, while they were eating candy apples.
Nesta looked at him, brow raised. “Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for Hook.”
Cassian chuckled, looking at Nyx while he nibbled on some goldfish that Nesta had packed in the cooler bag. “And what about Cassian?” Cassian asked. “Are you a fan of him?”
Nesta laughed, softly. “Are you asking me if I like you, Nazari?”
Cassian’s eyes lit with amusement. “I care about you, Nesta. That’s what I’m saying.”
The words she longed to say got stuck in her throat. The truth she’d wanted to tell him since his birthday over a month ago, when they’d finally succumbed to their desire for each other. But she wouldn’t. She couldn’t, not here, not right now, with strangers around them. Elain and Azriel weren’t far, but…
Something about those words. She wanted it just to be the two of them.
So Nesta chose to smirk instead, reaching over and rubbing caramel off his cheek. “You aren’t half bad, I guess.”
He sighed, dramatically, looking up into the sky. “I knew it, you’re only in it for the sex.”
“Cassian!” She blushed furiously, hoping no one had overheard him.
Grinning, he leaned forward and pressed his lips to hers. Nyx threw a goldfish at them, hitting Cassian in the side of the face.
Nesta couldn’t stop her laughter as she pulled back.
Even after a month, Nyx didn’t like Cassian kissing her. The fit he threw the first time he’d seen them kiss on the couch while he was playing with his toys on the floor and they watched a movie would go down in history as the worst meltdown the two of them had seen.
Nesta thought his continued, but lessening, tantrums were hilarious. Cassian could only roll his eyes.
“Was that necessary?” Cassian asked.
“Da,” Nyx said, popping a goldfish into his mouth. It was the closest thing he’d come to yes thus far.
“He used to like me, you know,” Cassian said, looking at Nesta, “before the two of us were together.”
Nesta shrugged. “He’s protective, what can I say?”
“You can say, to him, that you like it when I kiss you,” Cassian replied.
Nesta laughed as Nyx threw another goldfish at Cassian. “He’s smart, Cass. He may be a baby, but he knows you’re talking smack over here.”
“I would never talk smack about a baby,” Cassian said, taking a bite of his caramel apple. “Even if it’s true.”
It wasn’t too much later that Nyx was falling asleep, his little, green cap long forgotten and tucked into the pocket of Cassian’s obnoxious coat. He gently rubbed Nyx’s back as he slept on the blanket they’d laid out on the lush grass. Footsteps and a groan alerted him to Azriel’s presence as he sat down next to Cassian. Seph, in a carrier strapped to his chest, had been asleep for nearly an hour already. Cassian couldn’t help but smile at his brother and niece.
“So you two are actually making this work, huh,” Azriel said, smiling down at Nyx.
Cassian’s laughter sounded as if even he had a hard time believing it. “I guess so. It’s just…so easy with her.”
“I get it. I completely get it,” Azriel said, looking at something over Cassian’s shoulder, and from the way his eyes softened, he knew his brother’s gaze had found Elain.
“I think she feels the same way,” Cassian said. “She’s hard to read, though. Easier than she used to be - thank the Mother - but sometimes… I just want to grab her by the shoulders and ask her what the hell is on her mind.”
Azriel snorted. “Nesta is…”
When he didn’t complete his sentence, Cassian raised an amused brow.
“An interesting woman,” Azriel finished, at last.
Cassian laughed, quietly. “Yeah, she is. But, that’s what I like about her. She’s not a surface-level person, you know? She’s like an onion.”
Azriel blinked. “An onion?”
Cassian nodded. “A lot of layers.”
Azriel laughed, quietly. “I would keep that one to yourself. Not sure how Nesta would feel about being called a vegetable that makes you cry.”
Cassian chuckled, and shrugged. “I think it sounds nice.”
Azriel grinned and looked down at Seph. “Do you see it working out long term, then?”
“You make it sound like a legal document,” Cassian replied, snorting.
Azriel shook his head. “Fine. I’ll ask it simpler, then. Do you love her?”
He hesitated. “It’s only been a month.”
“And?” Azriel asked. “You’ve lived together for half a year. You've known her for over five years.”
Cassian was quiet. He contemplated Azriel’s question, watching the gentle rise and fall of Nyx’s breathing. “I don’t know.”
“You still think Rhys and Feyre didn’t know what they were doing when they set you up all those years ago?”
Looking up at Azriel, Cassian wasn’t expecting to find him smiling softly. “I still think they were bat shit insane,” he chuckled. “But… No. I get it now. They… They just wanted to give us the chance to be as happy as they were.”
“And are you?” Azriel asked, curiosity on his face.
Cassian looked around, finding Nesta laughing with Elain and Mor and Emerie and Gwyn. The smile as he watched her wasn’t faked. “Yeah. I am.”
Azriel’s smile was as genuine as his own. “Then I think you know.”
*
It had been a good day, and an even better night.
Nyx fell asleep in his carseat on the way home, and Nesta had gotten him out of his costume and into a fresh diaper and pajamas without him hardly stirring. After that, when Nesta meandered into her bedroom, she found a half-dressed pirate with a mischievous glint in his eye. He had made a show of taking Nesta’s costume off with his hook, which had her unable to stop the wide smile, the giggling, that escaped her control.
It was all sweet, adorable play until his lips found her skin, and then Nesta’s giddiness faded away as complete euphoria took control of her body.
They laid together as Halloween faded away and November 1st approached. Nesta’s fingers danced over his bare chest.
“Today was a fun day,” she said, quietly, as she watched her fingers move along his tattoos.
“It was,” he murmured, already half asleep, his arm wrapped around her, tucking her into his side. He had spent most of his day chasing down Nyx, while Nesta had watched, a smile on her face, as Elain took picture after picture. She’d promised to email the best ones to Nesta as soon as she’d edited them.
She could tell Cassian was exhausted as she looked up into his handsome face, the eyeliner still smudged under his eyes. Sensing her gaze on him, he cracked an eye open and looked at her. “What?”
She shook her head, laying it back down on his chest. “You still have make-up on,” she chuckled.
“What?” He asked. “You don’t think I look pretty?”
Snorting, she nestled into his warm body, settling as his calloused fingers scraped over bare waist. She felt his lips press against the top of her head and in that moment, she realized that this was how it was supposed to be. Nothing had ever felt as…right as this did. As being with him did.
“Cass?”
He grunted in answer, and Nesta realized he was just about asleep.
She decided not to reveal the bit of truth she’d been about to, not when he very well might not remember it the next day.
Instead, she settled her head back on his chest, and said, “I had fun today.”
He mumbled something that sounded like me too, but within seconds, his breath had evened out, and he was asleep.
She wouldn’t reveal that bit of herself, not tonight. But tomorrow…
Tomorrow, she would tell him.
And she prayed he felt the same way.
*
It was hardly after eight when Nesta woke up and found Cassian beside her, in bed, with a sleeping Nyx on his chest. He was scrolling through his phone, his back propped up against the headboard, his sweatpants nearly blending into the navy blue comforter.
Nesta blinked a few times before she yawned and said, “Good morning.”
Cassian’s eyes darted away from his phone, to her. He smiled. “Good morning. Little man woke up about an hour ago. Fell asleep again five minutes ago or so. Apparently he got worn out yesterday.”
Nesta chuckled. “I’d say so.”
“I was going to put him in his crib but he seems comfortable,” Cassian said. “I can, though, if you want me to make breakfast.”
Nesta shook her head as she propped herself up on her elbows. “That’s okay. I can make breakfast. I was in a french toast type of mood.”
“Sounds good,” Cassian crooned, and Nesta reached up to kiss him, softly, before dragging herself out of bed. After slipping on some cozy shorts and one of Cassian’s oversized t-shirts, she was headed downstairs.
Sunday mornings were her favorite, nowhere for either of them to be. Just time together and time with Nyx. She was humming quietly to herself after she’d made a pot of coffee, pulling what she needed to make French toast and bacon out of the fridge when there was a sudden knock on the front door.
Nesta froze, listening to ensure she had in fact heard—
Another knock, just as insistent as the first.
“Was that the door?” Cassian was carrying Nyx downstairs, the baby’s pacifier barely staying in his mouth as he sleepily leaned his head on his uncle’s bare shoulder.
“Yeah,” she replied, eyebrows furrowing as she reached the door and opened it.
Nesta froze as she found Alis Birch on the other side.
“Ms. Archeron, good morning,” she said, eyeing her choice of attire.
“Ms. Birch, good morning. What a surprise,” she said, trying not to panic.
“I hope it’s a good time,” she said, looking past Nesta to see what chaos she could find. “This is the last of my surprise visits.”
“I see,” Nesta said, then cleared her throat as she stepped aside. “Come in, please.”
Alis did not need to be told twice. She swept past Nesta and into the foyer, where Cassian caught sight of her. He stopped as their eyes met, and he hesitated.
“Ms. Birch,” he said, as if it were a pleasant surprise. “Nice to see you again.”
“You too,” she said, looking at Nyx. “Big Halloween, was it?”
“Fun Halloween,” Cassian corrected. “We were at the carnival downtown for most of the day. He had a blast.”
Alis nodded, but said no more.
“Have a seat,” Nesta said, gesturing to the living room furniture. “Please.”
Alis sat in a chair while Cassian carefully and slowly sat back on the couch, Nesta sitting beside him.
Before anyone could say anything else, Alis said, “The two of you have become intimate.”
Nesta swallowed roughly while Cassian could only blink. After a moment, she collected herself. “I—We…”
“It’s fairly recent,” Cassian admitted, taking over when it was clear Nesta was floundering.
She wanted to demand how she could tell, but she was very clearly wearing his shirt while he wore nothing at all, aside from his sweats. They were cooking breakfast while the baby dozed. It was all so…domestic.
Alis would have been blind not to notice it.
She hummed once before opening her notebook and scribbling a few notes down. “The two of you have come a long way in a few months then, since you were barely even friends the last time I was here.” She threw Nesta’s own half-drunk words into their faces.
“Things have changed,” she breathed, yearning to reach over and take Cassian’s hand, but not wanting to look weak in front of the woman.
The woman who controlled whether or not they’d be keeping Nyx.
“So, this is not a fling, then?” Alis asked.
Cassian opened his mouth, but it was Nesta who politely said, “I’m sorry, but I’m not sure how our romantic life is an appropriate topic-.”
“Oh, it is most appropriate,” Alis assured them both. “If this is nothing but a fling, it could create a lot of drama in the home, which could in turn affect Nyx’s well being. However, if this is love, something that will become steadier day by day, then I could not be more overjoyed.”
You don’t sound overjoyed, Nesta wanted to say, but didn’t.
“We are aware that everything we do affects Nyx,” Cassian said, not unkindly. “We thought it through before we decided to get together.”
Nesta almost wanted to laugh. Thought it through? They hooked up twice, and the second time it stuck. She wasn’t sure that was exactly thinking it through. In fact, there hadn’t been much thinking at all.
It just kind of...happened.
Nyx had indeed lost his pacifier at some point and patted Cassian on the cheek.
“Babababa,” he chanted, which the two of them had learned meant he wanted his bottle and Cassian stood.
“Excuse me, I’ll be back,” he said, carrying Nyx into the kitchen.
Alis held Nesta’s stare, eventually asking, “Does Nyx have a support system, outside of the home?”
She blinked. “I’m afraid I don’t follow.”
Alis set down her pen and looked at Nesta as if she were the child in this situation. “Let’s say things don’t last. Let’s say whatever is between you and Mr. Nazari isn’t a love match and it falls apart. Aside from the two of you, does Nyx have other people who could step in to take care of him?”
“I don’t see why he would need it,” she replied, her voice cold. “Even if things don’t work out, Cassian and I will still take care of him. Nyx is our responsibility now. We love him.”
“And will you do that from one home?”
“We… I…” Nesta shook her head. “Ma’am, with all due respect, we haven’t even had time to figure out what exactly this is between us.”
Alis scooped up her bag and tucked her notebook against her chest as she stood. “That’s exactly what I’m afraid of. And I’d like the two of you to have that figured out before my next visit. I’ll reach out a few days before, so you can expect me. But I’d like this…” She gestured around her, “situation to be more straightforward before I return.”
She turned and headed for the door.
When Cassian came back, Alis was gone. He blinked, Nyx now awake, downing his milk. “Where’d she go?”
“She left,” Nesta said, quietly. “She’ll let us know when she’s coming next time.”
Cassian’s brows furrowed as he sat next to Nesta on the couch. “What’s wrong?”
Nesta hesitated, then said, “I think she thinks that us getting together is a mistake.”
Cassian looked at Nesta for a moment, then snorted. “She also thought that us living together, unromantically, and raising Nyx was a mistake.”
Nesta said nothing as she watched her hands, quietly.
Cassian’s smile faded away. “What? You don’t think us getting together is a mistake, right?”
“No, of course not,” Nesta said, but it lacked passion.
Cassian watched her. “Nesta.”
“She brings up some good points, Cass,” Nesta breathed.
Cassian’s jaw ticked. “What does that mean?”
Nesta closed her eyes and took a deep breath. “Well, what if we don’t work out? What will happen? We should at least have a plan.”
“You don’t think we’re going to work out?” Cassian asked.
“I don’t even know what we are, Cassian,” she breathed, opening her eyes, but continued staring at her hands. “Am I your girlfriend? Are we exclusive? Is this just what’s convenient for us both?”
Cassian was staring at her, unable to think of anything to say, barely able to understand what had happened in the past thirty minutes since he’d gotten out of bed. “This sure as hell isn’t just about convenience, not for me. But if it is for you, I guess I’d like to know now.”
She still didn’t look at him. “I don’t know, Cass.”
He had no idea what to say, no idea what to do. He shook his head. “I’m going to take Nyx on my jog with me. When we get back, you let me know if this is still convenient for you.”
His voice was colder than she’d heard it in months, barely recognized it as he silently made his way up the stairs. She didn’t move, could hardly think as she heard him get changed and then dress Nyx as well.
Her face fell into her hands.
This isn’t how she wanted the morning to go.
As she laid in bed with him the night before, listening to the steady beating of his heart after he fell asleep, she had a long list of things she wanted to say to him today, had a long list of emotions she wanted him to feel.
Pissed wasn’t one of them.
Unsure wasn’t one of them.
Nothing was going as planned.
It wasn’t until Cassian was carrying a babbling Nyx back down the stairs that Nesta looked up. Cassian wouldn’t meet her eyes.
“Cass-,” she began, but he strode through the living room and out the door, the door closing just a little too hard behind him.
No, this wasn’t how she wanted the day to go.
She didn’t get to tell Nyx goodbye.
She didn’t get to tell Cassian goodbye, or any of the other things she had planned.
But maybe it was for the best. Maybe things would continue to fall into place, just not the place that she had planned.
Nesta sat back on the couch, her face falling back into her hands.
As the first tear fell, she wondered if this was a part of Feyre’s plan.
