picking out the nasty candies (twizzlers, banana laffy taffies, grape flavored dubble bubble) from the 3 variety bags you bought for Halloween so you can give those out first and not risk being stuck with them and forced to eat them at the end of the night. then picking out the candies only adults tend to like (almond joy, peanut m&ms) so you can stack on them but also have an emergency stash to put out if you run out of kid’s candies

So much of the complexity and simplicity of Usagi and Minako’s relationship is distilled here in just this one lil flashback from the R Movie, and I love it so much.
One of many things I love about Minako & Usagi’s relationship is that Minako sacrifices so much, all the time, in order to be a sailor soldier, and Usagi is the only one who ever kind of acknowledges that
(I think this is tied with Usagi and Minako being the only inners to mount their pre-Sailor lives). Minakos deepest dream is to be an idol, and besides her friends it’s the most important thing in the world to her. And it’s over the moment a talking cat finds her and tells her she’s a reincarnated soldier, all at the age of 13. So she compromises, she becomes Sailor V, the famous lone soldier who mysteriously fights monsters and everyone is talking about. And then that comes to an end too. Minako doesn’t get to be Sailor V anymore, she has to join a team of sailors as Sailor Venus. No longer is she famous, and no longer is she the most special sailor: that’s Sailor Moon. This drives Minako crazy, and I love that we see it as early as that season 2 ep where she gets sooo pissed at the little kids who are huge Sailor Moom fans but have no idea who Sailor Venus is 😭
Usagi saying my idol is here does two things simultaneously: it validates Minako’s sacrifice to join the team, and it validates her dream to become an idol. Usagi can’t even know how much this means to Minako. Usagi is, for all intents and purposes, the biggest idol in Minako’s life. Usagi is princess and queen and superhero all rolled into one, the most special sailor out of all of them that Minako is sworn to protect, that the world loves, and that all of their enemies target. She is the most important person to Minako, and to all of the other important people in Minako’s life (the other sailors). And that person, the supreme plot-anointed hero among heroes, the very reason for Minakos sacrifice, is turning to her and going “you are the coolest fucking person here!!!” I love how genuine Usagi is, she can’t contain her glee. It’s Sailor Fucking V!!!! Minako is hearing this from the princess, the most “special” person, but also Usagi is Minako’s best friend. They have an incredibly strong relationship stripped away from all the sailor stuff. And her best friend is saying to her, of course you can be an idol, you already are mine!!! It’s that simple. I love how much this means to Minako, and in so many different ways.
Lastly I love her response. She doesn’t break down in tears, or turn and tell Usagi how much this means to her. No, Minako is ever the opportunist, she has a fan, and so she poses. Ta-Da! And yet she can’t completely hide how touched she is- we can see her blushing. It’s so quintessentially Minako, she hides a mountain of feelings in a flippant gesture and a puffing of her chest, but also it’s a reaffirmation that you know what? Yeah she still is an idol.
