so I cancelled my table at that new con in Glasgow because the whole thing is super disorganised and happening really late in the evening, which for me is not great for travel etc. and I did this back in January before the cut off date for refunds and never heard anything back from them and today they resent a discord invite for the con to me and I was just like... Ok. so I sent them a follow up being like 'um hey I cancelled my table?' and I thought about asking for a refund but I think at this point I just need to take a loss on that table

oh my god do not click links in emails that tell you to verify your data or your bank account gets locked or click links in messages telling you your safety protocol is ending, like, tomorrow, you will get SCAMMED SO BAD AND YOU WILL LOSE A LOT OF FUCKING MONEY never ever let anyone pressure you into giving away login information especially to your online banking by creating a sense of urgency oh my GOD

some things to look out for

1. spelling mistakes. do you know how many rounds of marketing and sales experts these things go through? if theres a spelling mistake dont click it

2. not using your name. if an email adresses you with "dear customer" or, even worse, a generic "ladies and gentlemen", it is most likely not actually targeted to you

3. verifying or login links. even IF your bank was stupid enough to send these to customers, dont EVER click those. look at me. they can legally argue that youve given your data away and thus they dont have to pay you anything back DONT CLICK THAT FUCKING LINK

4. creating a sense of urgency. do this or we lock your account next week. do this or your ebanking stops working tomorrow. give us all your money in cash or your beloved granddaughter will get HANGED FOR MURDERING BABIES. no serious organisation would ever do something like that over email or sms. ever. hands off.

5. ALWAYS CHECK WHO SENT YOU THE EMAIL. the display name and the email adress can vary a LOT. anyone can check the display name. look at the email adress. does it look weird? call the fucking place it says its from. you will likely hear a very weary sigh.

6. if its in a phonecall, scammers love preventing you from hanging up or talking to other people to have a little bit of a think about whats happening. there should always be a possibility to go hey i wanna think about this ill call back the official number thanks.

7. do not, i repeat, do NOT a) call a phone number flashing on your screen promising to rid your computer of viruses after clicking a dodgy link and b) let them install shit on your computer like. uh. idk. teamviewer.

7.i. TEAM VIEWER LETS PEOPLE USE YOUR COMPUTER HOWEVER THEY WANT AS LONG AS THEYRE CONNECTED. IF YOU DONT KNOW FOR FUCKING SURE YOURE TALKING TO ACTUAL TECH SUPPORT DONT GIVE ANYONE ACCESS TO YOUR COMPUTER.

fun little addendum: did you know a link can just automatically download shit? like. a virus? an app you can't uninstall unless you reset your entire device? dont click links unless youre extremely sure you know where they lead. hover your mouse over it and check the url.

Head of UK’s leading anti-monarchy group arrested at coronation protest

The head of the UK’s leading republican movement has been arrested at an anti-monarchist protest on King Charles III’s procession route.

Graham Smith had been collecting drinks and placards for demonstrators at Trafalgar Square when he was detained by police on the Strand in central London.

It is understood Smith was detained after bringing a megaphone to the demonstration. The Met police had tweeted earlier this week that they would have a “low tolerance” of those seeking to “undermine” the day.

Harry Stratton, a director at Republic, who arrived as Smith and the others were detained, said: “They were collecting the placards and bringing them over when the police stopped them.

“The guys asked why and they were told: we will tell you that once we have searched the vehicle. That’s when they arrested the six organisers. We asked on what grounds they had been arrested but they wouldn’t say. It is a surprise as we had had a number of meetings with the police. They had been making all the right noises”.

Simon Riley headcanons!

Simon gets a kitten!!

- one random night Simon’s coming back home from deployment and finds a kitten left alone on the curb

- the cat distribution system chose him :’)

- Simon being the pookie wookie kind hearted babie he is (lmao) ends up picking her up and checking around for any injuries before keeping her back on the ground

- “u seem alright. Take care i guess.” Just as he begins walking away he hears the tiny tippy taps of the kitten following him. He pauses looking down at her who waits right next to his gigantic boot-worn feet

- guess who brings her home~?

- Simon will be sitting on the floor to his bathroom, the kitten playing with his shoelaces while hes on his phone searching for ‘how to take care of cat’

- Simon is so absorbed that he doesnt even change after coming home. Just straight away searches for the tiniest cup to serve the kitten some water and empties out a random plastic organiser to be her makeshift litterbox

- I have a feeling Simon wont even bother naming her. Just calling her ‘kid’, ‘little one’, or just simply ‘cat’

- the 141 dont get officially introduced to the new addition to Simon’s life, so theyre surprised when they one day find his vest coat with thin scratched on them

- John is also particularly intrigued when he find Simon in the bathroom with the lower half of his mask undone while his fingers try to remove a strand of cat hair in his mouth muttering “ugh that lil cat”

- when they do finally get to know about his cat its in the cutest and surprising way possible: little kitty accidentally hid herself in Simon’s backpack and got brought to the 141 base

- Simon doesnt allow anybody to hold her more than a minute (and even during that minute he is extremely possessive)

- at night when Simon is particularly tired but not sleepy, he’ll have the cat, now all big and chubby walking all over his chest until she settled to keep her butt close to his face

- “be a little more ladylike, eh?” He uncharacteristically chuckles lightly swatting her butt away. Her purring eventually making him fall asleep

- in the mornings Simon always finds himself either suffocated under the weight of his chubby cat on his chest or finding her sprawled out taking up more than half of the bed

- and no matter how annoyed he acts, Simon loves his little cat <3
