I don’t know how to do the “under the cut” thing so I’m sorry about how long this post is.

Okay guys, here’s my reactions to The School for Good and Evil movie (this was me taking notes as I watched).

-They’re a lot better friends in the movie than in the book. I think I like it

Okay, so basically they hit enough of their basic plot points to make it through but honestly? Wasn’t the best. The book was waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better.

Whatever happened to that venture bros essay?

I totally didn't suddenly hate it and become permanently afraid to look at the document, and start questioning "why does anyone even need to hear a 20 minute rant about an upsetting character," and "why should *I* allow myself to focus on an upsetting character," and realize it would probably be controversial because I take a huge shit on Doc Hammer and Christopher McCollough (wow I didn't know he voiced in Five Nights at Freddys).

But here is basically my essay from memory since I'm too literally afraid to open the dang document, like its gonna release a creepypasta on me or something:

Intro: Every character in Vbros is a trope but with nuance. Except for. Him. Hatred. The biggest mistake.

Hatred actually has a great introduction scene! (not... that scene. the scene where he first arches rusty.) Great establishment!

Conclusion of summary: the only plot-important moment Hatred literally ever acted out was blowing up the cocoon in the end of Season 5, which he totally half-assed, and had nothing to do with him personally!

Hatred should literally just be scrapped abut he could've worked well as: A.) Just a foot fetishist like the original concept! Haha foot fetish funny! His racist caricature girlfriend is still really disgusting though! Please get rid of her! B.) The rivialry between him and the Monarch was really promising! It would've been great if they were both villains, but actually seemed more like each other's arches. They're opposites and I loved that! So, yes please! Give us Monarch beating the shit out of pedophile daily!

Making Hatred the Venture body guard was literally the worst thing they ever could've done with him!

Unless they wanted to emphasize the horrors of abuse. Because its fucking horrifying how he is so abusive and Rusty does nothing! And that is the only use Hatred has to the plot: Horror!

Hatred literally has such a lame dynamic with every character! The Monarch: they barely ever interact ever again! Dean and Hank: they are uncomfortable around him (at least until later seasons)! Rusty: doesn't play off of his personality at all even though they are constantly around each other and get along... and.... 21? ....................

The rivalry between 21 and Hatred makes little sense, is out of nowhere, and only probably exists because the writers saw two guys they can make fun of (fat, boobs, nerd, pedophile), (terrible to see them make a pedophile joke and then a fat joke next to each other like theyre normal and equivalent. i hate this show) and said, ohhh~!! HaHAHAHA... they FIGHT...!!! funnnieee!!!! :))))))) (my unfair hate towards the writers pops out here for some reason) yeah this was stupid of me. its not that deep.

THEN I INTRODUCE THE WHOLE QUOTE THIS ESSAY WAS INSPIRED BY BUT........... I........ somehow can’t find the quote anymore? It was from the Art Book and basically said: they played around with the idea of 21 being the Venture Body guard in season 4 but then realized they couldn't because 21 was busy going through his bimbofication arc.

Goes On A Rant About 21:

Overanalyzes like 20 million scenes to prove 21 is queer-coded neurodivergent mentally ill pro-aborition pro-drug dude who hates pedophiles and would make a great dad and CRACKTHEORY:

21 actually forms a pointless rivalry with Hatred because he wants to protect Dean and Hank from him and no one can tell me otherwise. CANON.

So basically, 21 as the body guard would've solved all the shows problems. He would make Dean and Hank happy kids who are not abused. And being around Dean and Hank would make 21 happier too! But then everything would be happy and there would be no plot. so. : / fuck.

GOING BACK TO HATRED:

Okay so like I said, his purpose is to make the show horrific.

But actually! The writers SUDDENLY decide to make him an incompetent dumb uncle figure who can't even shoot a gun straight and is constantly made fun of in weird ways by every character and for some reason has boobs and is overemotional as a joke! (and I brought up like 20 million scenes to support this even though its obvious)

So actually the purpose of Hatred is to be a terrible joke.

(And then I make some controversial comments about how I enjoy/appreciate some things the writers do, but I also hate them. But no one wants to hear me hate on them! so Ill just skip over that).

In conclusion:

Hatred is a bad joke.

Run in, grab the boy, and leave. That was the plan. But of course his plans never went according to... well... plan. Zuko struggled against the chain, panic obvious in his face but stopped when he saw the watertribe siblings staring at him. He stared at the girl for a second and then at the boy, the one he shared a scar with. Agni his eyes were so blue, even in the golden hour lighting they were like the warm waters on ember island, welcoming and well... warm.

He found himself lost in those eyes until he heard the girl clear her throat and he turned to the side with a faint blush spreading across his cheek. "Didn't your mother ever teach you staring is rude?" She teased

"No," he narrowed his eyes at her "she left me when I was eight"

"Oh, I'm sorry" She said with a small look of empathy

He gave a half hearted scoff "Don't be, she left to protect me"

At that point Zhao made his way over to Zuko "prince Zuko, making friends with watertribe savages?" The older man mocked as he reached the boy, leaning down and holding his chin

"Theyre not savages Zhao" he spat at his face earning a low growl and a smack

"Watch it Zuko, you're chained up in fire nation waters, you're already on thin ice don't drip another pick" Zhao walked away leaving Zuko staring to the side, refusing to face the water siblings until Katara spoke up.

"Who is he?"

"Captain Zhao, a.k.a. a jerk, probably more of a threat than me" Zuko turned back to them but only for a second before the doors opened and avatar Roku appeared. The chains melted and he took off running. No way in hell was he going to admit he knew if Sokka wasn't going to, and no way was he going to face Zhao or his father any time soon.

After the trio managed to get out again Sokka rubbed his face, dang that was a hard slap Zhao landed on Zuko. "What was that about? Why would Zhao slap him like that?" Katara asked.

Sokka took a second too long and Aang turned to them "who's Zhao?"

"Some captain that straight of slapped Zuko, hard" Katara answered him

"Yeah, I dont know what that was about... and he called him prince? Why would he be on thin ice let alone traveling on such a small ship?" Sokka added in. If he's the prince wouldnt he be treated with more... respect? Okay now the universe really was playing tricks on him, a fire prince? Really? That's the dumbest thing he's ever heard.

Aang gave them a look "that sounds like banishment if I'm not mistaken..."

Sokka gave him a weird look "banishment? Against their own prince?" Now thats even more dumb.

"Well, it could be a number of reasons but if his dad is the firelord then I suspect it was something petty that the firelord didn't like."

"But thats his son?"

"Yeah and he's the firelord" Katara chirped up.

"Yeah but still, thats his son, like if dad was some tyrannical leader he wouldn't banish you or me yknow?" Sokka said with confusion dripping in his words

Katara could only offer a shrug. Why on earth would Zuko have been banished from his home? How long had it been? Could it have been two and a half years ago when they he, got burned? What happened with that burn anyways? Was that connected to his banishment? Sokka lost himself in a spiral of thoughts on the flight away from the crescent island.

Meanwhile back on Zuko's ship Zuko was pacing in his room unable to get the image of Sokka's eyes out of his head. How were they that blue? He's never seen anyone with blue eyes before, they were simply not normal in the firenation, but Agni they were so... pretty.

"What is troubling you prince Zuko?" Iroh asked as he stepped into Zuko's chambers.

Zuko turned to him "nothing is bothering me!" He paused "nothing besides just narrowly avoiding whatever Zhao had in mind for me before we reached Caldera"

Iroh gave a hum "yes, that red mark on your face definitely shows he planned on something, I'm just glad you escaped." Iroh raised a brow "that is not all thats troubling you is it Prince Zuko?"

Zuko groaned and let himself fall onto his bed "blue." He stated "the color blue. I want something with that color... do you think we could stop at a port town and find something blue?"

"Of course, mind if I ask why blue?" Iroh pressed, hoping to get a confession

"Yes, I do mind. But if you must know, I just wanted something other than red in my room. That is the only reason. Now... can you leave me alone?" He gave a half hearted glare but he was far too tired to care too much about his uncle sti being there.

"Of course, rest well prince Zuko" and he did. His dreams were of nothing much besides flashes of Sokka's baby blues, the ocean, and the sky. There was more but he wouldn't remember it anyways.

gonna post a dang dream cause it was dang weird and I want a link to send

    it was in the form of like, a movie? main character is me but is blonde girl, looking like stock 30-something protagonist chick from an apatow movie. but this is some sort of drama. i can't tell whats going on specifically because the dialogue makes no sense. i am arguing in a room with some other girls, ones older, scolding me i think. i get my things and go.

     i get in my car, but where i was parked was in some grass. while driving into the road, i realize its a much steeper dropoff onto the road than i thought, and it bottoms out and damages my car. brand new car all fucked up. im mad but oh well, i drive on.

     seems the movie keeps switching genres because now its like a dumb 2000s era college comedy where i keep getting into small accidents as im driving. more and more of the car gets damaged. but like, damaged as in gets hit and falls off completely.

     eventually i am driving what is basically a car frame with just wheels, engine, and a couple body panels left (which is funny because that joke doesnt work anymore since nowadays cars dont have frames like that, theyre unibodies, so fuck you dream). i am super pissed off cause there goes my new car, and its all because hundreds of stupid people keep crashing into me.

     im driving out in the woods and its getting dark. now the genre switches to horror as i am forced to abandon whats left of my car, on a dark country road in the woods. the last guy i crash into is one last jock from the comedy who is trying to apologize to me stupidly when he gets utterly gored from behind by some mchael myers killer dude.

     so obviously i take off running. i try to stay on the road but it turns into trail anf then just into forest. i am gradually less aware of my surroundings until im not even sure why im running and i end up on a train.

     there are a couple people on the train, presumably the party i boarded with, but i don't know them. i try to warn them qbout the guy chasing me but they just laugh. then he shows up and kills another person.

     he manages to hit me a couple times, and now im like the car from earlier, pieces of me coming off. but its just cosmetic damage this time, for lack of a better phrase. little bits of flesh here and there.

     i get hit on the head and i think im fine. but when i examine the damage, a piece of my skull, between my temple and forehead, comes off in my hand, sticky strands of blood and meninges detatching as i pull.

     i escape enough to lock myself in a dark-ish bathroom with one other person. i can see enough that i can tell its in a home, not a train. theres a full size tub and a pedestal sink. the other person is pacing back and forth, gesticulating and rambling.

     shes explaining some barely comprehensible paranoid delusion about how dreams, ones with a series of scenarios like I'm having, are some kind of matrix prison thing. our souls or consciousness or whatever are forced to jump from one body/reality to the next while the body is perpetually sleeping, somnambulantly performing menial tasks necessary for the prison to function.

     the dreams act as instructions for the body. like, in the dream im, say, taking a food item out of a fridge, but in physical reality, my sleeping enslaved body is doing some job that requires bending over, opening a container, and taking a thing out to put into some other container.

     but are the dreams just post hoc rationalizations for the otherwise incomprehensible tasks my body is forced to perform, unbeknownst to me, beyond my control?

     I brush off their schizophrenic conspiracy yheory and leave the dark bathroom, abandoning my plan to assess my damage in the mirror. im sure its fine

     i walk out and im in an apartment. but its somehow mine? and im hosting a party? but i dont know the place or the people so i guess it's still movie mode. im hungry as hell and all the fast food burgers somebody bought got eaten. i go to the fridge and try to microwave some white castle burgers.

     but then everyone is leaving and i have to go with them? for some reason? and this is now like, a lame teens dramedy? like, juno or something? i hate it still? i grab the obly thing in the fridge left and leave with them. we're out in a neighborhood street as the sun is coming up.

     its the old abandoned neighborhood trope again. this neighborhood is tree lined and was probably pretty, but recently abandoned but there must have been a storm. everything is wet leaves and branches broken off the trees strewn about, clogging the road.

     i still have this weed in my hands and im idly picking out stems as we walk. but as i pick i come to realize its just about all stems and either i dropped the flowers or there never was any real weed in it. and im finding inchworms.

     i freak out and drop all of it as i realize all the "stems" in my hands are inchworms or some other kind of caterpillar/worm. i try to point out how weird this is but i look up and whoever i was walking with are all gone. im looking around for people and i just see wet broken branches and dead houses.

     i notice a big arm-width, 12 foot or so branch is kinda moving. i look closer and its not a branch, its also a worm thing, with that same dry caterpillar texture. freaks me out. but im thinking i must be seeing things, it looked just like a branch a second ago. i look closer at the end of it and i can see its dead-eyed bug face turn toward me.

     but for slme reason, maybe because of the fear and panic im feeling, i can see far too much detail (this high-res sharp detail thing happens a lot in my dreams). its face, and all its alien bug features, seem to be segmented, or a lattice of some kind, made up of little spider-like eyes. but the eyes start squirming, like im seeing the tips of larvae in a beehive.

     and from these little orifices out pop, one by one, those little stem-like inchworms, the worm was worms all along, all the way down, its all bugs and crawly and wet leaves and dry wiggling worms and i wake up

Do you have any advice for writing or creating regularly? That’s hard for me and I’d like to get better at it.

it boils down to what works best for you personally tbh. i’ve got a system to write semi-regularly (or i did......restricted movement hours have kinda forced me to restructure that lol) and it works for me but that’s just how my brainyot works. i’m a routine-based creature so working writing into my routine was how i got myself to write semi-regularly. 

ive also had significant Brain Junk for most of my life and was gradually able to navigate how best to create in spite of that but im also like, medicated for it and the like so self-care was a factor. i couldnt create shit while i was too busy lying in a pool of my own filth having fits of paranoia about the nature of reality so i was hardly about to make myself try and create stuff when that wasnt even on my radar. 

i can share some of the things i do to keep myself writing though! like again this isn’t something that’s for sure gonna work for everybody cause everybodys wired differently but i hope some of it helps!

1. daily wordcount - i’ve mentioned this before but i have a daily wordcount that i do for my original fiction. i don’t apply the same standard to fic-writing because that risks making it an arbitrary barrier that puts too many numbers on my internal list. that being said, it’s very small. i make myself do 200 words per day. if that gets me going and writing more than that, awesome. if not, i still got a little bit done. 200 words is small, and it’s not overwhelming to catch up on if i miss a day. no matter how shitty im feeling i try to get in 200 words.

2. routine - since i’m a routine-based person by nature i basically found ways to finagle creative processes into all that. it’s not hard and fast because that kind of rigid structure makes me balk and i’m not that disciplined lol, but it’s usually something like “i have an hour-long lunch break at work and literally nothing else to do during it so i’ll write in that time period” or “i have thirty minutes of sitting by the stove making dinner so i’ll write until it’s ready”

3. momentum - or what my housemate fondly calls “The Juice.” if i have The Juice of inspiration i keep that going for as long as i can. if something’s not working for me i don’t scrap it or toss it right away. if i’m having trouble with a scene i make a note to myself and move on to a different one. example of this from my latest wip, which is part iv of mayhem

i hadnt worked out what was gonna go there and nothing was coming to me easy in the moment so i stuck the note there and kept going. my works are full of this shit. if i can’t think of a name or if there’s a statistic or a character i haven’t worked out yet i don’t wanna break my focus and momentum so i slap a note in the first draft and keep going. at a first draft stage the important thing is getting the words Out so it doesnt matter if theyre perfect. ill go back and fix them later, revise all i need to. first drafts dont need to be good, they just need to be there so i can spruce them up later.

on the flip side do not be like me and commit to this momentum so bad that you forget that you are a human being who needs to eat and consume liquids. i do that sometimes because of who i am as a person and it is a serious flaw of mine, do not be like this. sometimes getting some food in you is what you need to get The Juice flowing again and that sounds kinda gross and i am sorry

4. planning and hangups - this ones dependent on how you create. i forget where this analogy came from, but i’ve heard it said that some writers are architects who need a blueprint of where they’re going before they end up there and some writers are gardeners, who don’t need a set plan so much as they need to keep going. i’m definitely an architect - a lot of my works start out as bulletpoints of what scenes i wanna cover, what topics i wanna explore, etc. - though i have on occasion simply Written without any set destination, usually to force myself out of a creative slump. me being a big planner used to be one of the biggest barriers for me creatively because i’d spend hours agonizing over minute universe details and never start the dang story. this still happens from time to time. like heres what my organizational folder looks like wrt “pray for disaster”

that is not even all the files in there. why do i have two dictionaries. jesus. like i make these giant ass fuckin....tomes of stuff i like to keep track of, which i like to call “bibles” lol. except i could tell that getting too organized was gonna be an uphill battle with very little payoff so by the end i just made a “MISCELLANEOUS BULLSHIT” doc and for now i throw everything in there if it doesn’t fit into something like a dictionary or timeline

shit like this is why i like to just sit down and write without a clear destination in mind if i’m having writer’s block. that’s one of those things that goes hand in hand with the way i take advantage of my own momentum - if i reach a certain point where i’m just picking at details and not doing any writing i just go “ok motherfucker sit down and write shit. we will work out the details later.”

5. motivation - the ways i tend to motivate myself are weird so idk how true this is for anybody else but i’ve been writing for a pretty large part of my life. i went to college for english/creative writing and got a whole dang degree cause i still wanna make this my vocation somehow. one thing i cannot ever turn off is the writer part of my brain that’s going “oooh huh that’s not how i would’ve written that” in literally every piece of art i consume - tv, movies, books, songs, etc. sometimes that’s enough to inspire me into doing something on my own time. most of the time though if i’m feeling stumped i tend to crack open some of my personal favorite works, like books or fics that have really resonated with me, to fall in love with the art all over again. seeing the way different authors and artists do their craft helps me get in the zone of wanting to write more cause i get this nice feeling of “damn, these people really did those things with those words.....that’s fuckin amazing.....i wanna do that.” 

you do risk falling into the trap of “ugh i can’t write like them though” but that’s the beauty of writing. nobody can write the way anybody else does. ofc i can’t write like terry pratchett, only terry pratchett can write like terry pratchett, and if i compare myself to terry pratchett i’m only gonna get sad and mopey. but i can write in a way thats totally unique to me so i should not try to write like terry pratchett because that’s just impeding my own creative energy in the interest of trying to cookie-cut myself into someone else’s zone. only terry pratchett can write like terry pratchett but only i can write like zero graffitibible.

i hope that was helpful? like this is all stuff that works for me so no guarantee it’ll work for everyone else.

oh right and idk how many of yall are minors because let it be known that i do not condone underage drinking; i am an adult who occasionally will get crunk because i like to write drunk and edit sober. if you too are an adult who can legally consume alcohol feel free to write while buzzed because that is a nice way to write with zero fuckin inhibitions. i dont get blackout drunk or nothing just a little buzzed and sometimes what i write makes no sense but i am at times at my most productive at 2am while mildly buzzed. its a thing.

Top ten KH3 moments?

***SPOILERS AHEAD! SPOILERS AHEAD! SPOILERS AHEAD! DON’T READ UNLESS YOU’VE EXPERIENCED THE WHOLE GAME OR YOU DON’T GIVE A DANG ABOUT SPOILERS!***

Confession: in trying to come up with my answer for this post, I came up with THIRTY. I’ll just put the ten here, but if anyone wants to ask about those other twenty, feel free :-D

10. The reveal of who Luxu really was the whole time. It tied together a lot of things that made sense and it set up EXACTLY THE CHARACTER IT NEEDED TO to take up the villain helm in place of Xehanort. I’m actually going to skirt saying this name, even though I warned for spoilers, because this reveal is just SO good. And a lot of the endgame made me feel sour and numb due to THE HORRIBLY TRAUMATIZING DEATH OF KAIRI, but this scene picked me almost all the way back up to normal again. 

9. When Xemnas assembles Demyx, Larxene, Marluxia, and Luxord at the Keyblade Graveyard and it’s NONSTOP BANTER. Larxene firing off the most hilarious insults at Demyx (a CEREAL BOWL), Demyx openly admitting that he’s not imposing on purpose, Larxene trying to get Marluxia to start another coup, Luxord listening in the whole time and not letting on until his name is called, Luxord fiddling with the cards and making gambling metaphors, Demyx playing his sitar the whole time…and let us not forget the line that embodies a Big Mood: “Ugh. Xemnas.”

8. When Sora reunited with Hades. It was less “MY MORTAL NEMESIS WHO MUST BE STOPPED” and more “Oh, my weird friend of opposing morality who I don’t really like but have to say hi to.” Their reactions to each other were so hilariously casual. Then Hades introduced the Titans in the most EPIC way…only to realize he sent Sora EXACTLY WHERE HE SHOULDN’T GO and deciding this was fine. Also, bonus points for Sora later calling him “the H-ster.”

7. When the Demon Tornado (my personal name for the GIANT CYCLONE OF SHADOW HEARTLESS; canon will probably prove this wrong later) is about to wipe out everyone, but Ephemer helps Sora summon ALL THE KEYBLADES OF THE DEAD WIELDERS OF THE KEYBLADE WAR IN ORDER TO PULVERIZE IT. There’s so much going on there: the epicness of using a hundred Keyblades at once, the beautifully victorious arrangement of “Dearly Beloved,” the shout-outs to the player names in the commands, and, perhaps most of all, the realization after the fact that these blades were all of people who died killing each other for petty reasons…and after death, their spirits realized it was time to set aside their differences and focus on not letting Xehanort win.

6. Battling Davy Jones and the Kraken at the same time. The Kraken is one of the two Disney boss battle fights I have wanted for a DECADE (the other was Randall Boggs; you had your chance and you BLEW IT). I actually was half-disappointed with the naval battle portion because I had imagined it should be melee, but then Davy Jones turned out to be the first true Disney villain boss fight that wasn’t transformed into a Heartless or somesuch, and I’d been thirsty for content of him since arriving in that world. But then it turned out THE KRAKEN WAS WAITING IN THE WINGS TO ASSIST HIM and I actually DID get to fight it melee and it was just the PERFECT way to close out PotC’s role in KH.

5. Fighting Ansem, Seeker of Darkness; Xemnas; and Young Xehanort at the same time. First of all, BEST BOSS THEME IN THE ENTIRE GAME. It was the perfect culmination of putting all the Xehanort themes into one piece that flowed and made sense. Second, the sheer epicness of this CONCEPT. Third, the coordinated triple attack they make where Young Xehanort freezes Sora, Xemnas shoots him with the vines, and Ansem lets the lasers fly.

4. Even and Demyx’s one interaction. While I still don’t think Vexen/Even is hero material, the one thing that made that redemption worth it was this. Seeing these two diametrically opposing personalities, who you think would hate each other, play off each other perfectly. They’re just the right amount of annoyed with each other to be hilarious, and then there’s obviously some genuine respect passed between this odd couple. I will never be over how they have to shush each other in succession.

3. Ienzo’s intro to the plot, though this is kind of in two parts - I’m counting his initial reveal as Sora’s guide with his almost immediate return to help with tech stuff when Pence logs into the computer. Ienzo is just such a CINNAMON ROLL. He just wants friends now, he’s a total ambivert, he keeps slipping into jargon before realizing he’s the only one in the room who knows what he’s saying and reverting to layperson’s terms without being condescending, he flinches at sudden loud noises, he has a cute smile and a nervous laugh…oh. Oh, no. JCMorrigan has a crush.

2. When Vanitas is on the cusp of wrecking Sora on the Laughfloor…and Sulley intervenes by picking him up and YEETING HIM into a door. Oh, but not just that. Taking that door and THROWING IT INTO ANOTHER DOOR, THEN INTO ANOTHER DOOR, THEN INTO ANOTHER DOOR AND SHREDDING THAT ONE. I could NOT stop howling with laughter through this whole sequence. And about four hours later, it hit me that Vanitas could just Corridor out of wherever he got thrown, so Sulley basically did all that for nothing, AND NOW IT’S EVEN MORE HILARIOUS. BONUS POINTS STILL IF YOU THINK ABOUT THE KIDS’ ROOMS WHO EITHER HAD A DOOR FLUNG INTO THEM OR VANITAS HIMSELF. Also, can we appreciate how Sulley somehow knew after five minutes that Vanitas was THAT much worse than Randall that he’d need this treatment?

1. Randall Boggs hijacking the Monsters, Inc. factory. Randall is a legacy favorite villain of mine. He was a big part of my late childhood/young adolescence, and I was CRAZY over him. Over time, I’ve found he still holds up. I could gush about how KHIII’s additions to his entire characterization pretty much renewed my love for him afresh, but let’s focus on his finest hour. Normally, the designated villain of a KH world just peaces out and waits for you to find them at the boss location. Randall, instead, turns the entire factory into death traps and TAUNTS HIS QUARRY OVER THE PA SYSTEM GLADOS-STYLE. Not only that, but he makes TERRIBLE puns (”This one’s got some spark in him!” during the electric fence, “I’ve decided to ramp up the difficulty” as Sora climbs an upward-headed conveyor) and he easily slides from Large and in Charge (”Enjoy what’s left of your miserable little lives!”) to realizing he’s getting humiliated and trying to cover (”You get one freebie, but that’s it.”). KHIII did Randall so good I can’t even.

but ya know, they’re still super busy ALL the time 

whenever you’re not with them, you’re studying for an exam or still filling in as a temp assistant

a lot of your time is spent trying to get their groupchat to shut up because theyre always texting in it 

and oh boy 

you know they need sleep and they’re not sleeping enough if they’re texting you at 3 am

when you have free time, you’ll do one of two things: go to their practice room or go to their place

you love to see them dance 

it’s an experience that can never be replaced

honestly youre too tired to even catch a cab back home so you go to their place and put on a movie

eunwoo is off reading his books before he showers

My Unrestricted Opinions on Stranger Things 2

linking @capthawkeye as requested, im sorry this turned into such a rant :’)

First off, i loved the 80′s vibe in the first season and i still love it now its so damn good. One of those things i never knew i needed until i saw it. Like the theme song has to be one of my favorites of all time, it just captures the essence of the show so perfectly god dAMN. 

But before i talk about the rest of the  Good Shit i gotta get some stuff off my chest about this cause oooOOOHHHHH boy there was some weird shit with this season.

Problem #1.

Max served no purpose. I kept waiting for her and billy to like,,,,, do something??? Like max kinda just followed the boys around, and billy was an antagonist to steve, but like, for what purpose?? Its not even that i dont like them, its more that i dont care about them cause we weren’t given any reason to care about them. So if anything, i really hope season 3 does something about that

Problem #2.

Mike didnt do shit in this season either. I really liked his character in season 1, but in this one, anything having to do with him or his development involved him pining over eleven or some shit, and that was fine and all, it served a purpose, but i would have liked to see a little more of his development with other characters too. Like the scene where he talked with will, that was GOOD SHIT, i wish there was more stuff like that.

Problem #3.

The entire plot line with dart. HoLy FuCK. Dustin what the fUCK? Why are you keeping this horrifying lamprey-pollywog thing????????? Did you not learn your lesson about weird creature bullshit from last year? especially after you watched it sprout fucking LEGS out of the sides of its body??????? that shit aint natural!! And what the fuck are the chances of discovering a new species of that complexity in the middle of god damn iNDIANA? Amazon rain forest, i could see. Galapagos islands? For sure. But BOY sure as hell not in the middle of the US of A. But for the sake of argument, lets say he just got real excited and weirdly attached to dart (Which i know is what they were going for, but god damn that decimated the ever-loving shit out of my suspension of disbelief). So Will, obviously aware of the fact that he spit up a worm boy that looked suspiciously similar to  dart. They even show us a got dang flashback. WHY THIS BITCH AINT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT IT UNTIL ITS TOO GOD DAMN LATE?????????? ooooOOOHhh that really salted my apples, like i blame that shit 100% more on will than i do on dustin. And in the last episode where dustin meets full grown dart in the tunnels and then…..,,,, i dont even know what the fuck happened? ??? ? I thought the demodogs were a part of the hive-mind? Why was dart exempt from this? Like he physically should have not been able to break from the hive mind, heckin WILL could barely break from it. My ONLY guess is that Dustin left a bit of imprinting on dart as a baby worm, but like even thats a bit of a stretch for me.

Problem #4.

Love triangles. Ive never been a fan of them, and i likely never will.

Problem #5.

The overall ost for this season was not as impressive to me as the first season’s. Like i remember specific tracks from scenes in the first season, but i didnt get any of that with this one. It wasn’t bad by any means, but it definitely wasn’t that memorable.

Problem #6.

Ok, i fully realize this is 1 000 000% a me problem, but fuck this show for getting the Stalker Song stuck in my head. Now dont get me wrong, i absolutely adore The Police, theyre one of my favourite bands, but oooohhhhhhhhhHHHHHHH why is their most popular song Every Breath You Take? I remember when my mom first showed me that ear blood and she told me how it was mega popular when she was in highschool, and it would always be played as a slow song at the dances and i was astounded by this????? Its about this dude’s creepy stalker-attachment to a girl and ahhhh?????????? why was that a good candidate for slow dance music? Also i just think it sounds like shit, especially compared to their other stuff (actually i hate their entire Synchronicity album but thats completely unrelated to this). So knowing all this, i remember sitting there watching the snow ball scene and then it dawned on me that it would 100% be a possibility that  the stalker song could play, and when it did i think i died a little bit. Like y’all couldn’t have played Every Little Thing She does is Magic??? thats the real good shit, not this schloppy garbage. The ONLY redeeming quality to this choice in song was that it acted as a really nice duality to the fact that the shadow monster is also watching every move they make as the lyrics suggest, which i thought definitely fit the song very nicely.

Ok now that i got that all out of the way i can talk about the Good Stuff

 First off, id like to just acknowledge the fact that all these kids are such good actors? like holy shit, especially millie, so god damn talented, im crying

Every scene with Hopper and eleven were so good. Their character dynamic was so good. They played off each other spectacularly, and i hope we get more in season 3. Like they were hands down the best part of this season for me, no questions asked. The scene with eleven’s psychic tantrum was my absolute favourite, it was shot so well, the dialogue was perfect, you could understand  why both of them were so rightfully upset, i just loved it.

Another spectacular scene this season was the one where joyce plays back the footage will took halloween night, and she sees the shadow monster outlined in the static of the tv screen. holy shit did that blow my mind. Gave me the same feeling as her communicating to will through the christmas lights last season, pure gold.

I also continued to enjoy all the dnd analogies they used, like True Sight was such a good metaphor for what they thought will was experiencing.

Just the entirety of episode seven honestly.

STEVE what a good father of five, i really loved his turn of character in the last season and he is such a wholesome person and im glad he and nancy broke up cause fuck nancy, she served a purpose but i never liked her character, she dont deserve steve.

I also was really not expecting to like bob as much as i did. he was just such a good-hearted person. I was also not expecting him to die. rip bob and rip joyce’s sanity.

THE AESTHETIC OF THE SHADOW MONSTER WAS SO SO GOOD HOLY SHHHHHHHH and i really loved the fake out where we thought will would be the spy into the upside down, and then it turned out the shadow monster was actually using will as the spy, that was goooood shit. like when the realization hits that will set up the trap for the lab guys in the tunnels, that was so so good.

Thats about all i can think of right now, the rest of it i thought was good, just nothing that stood out like above mentioned things. I may add more if i think of any

Today I woke up around 1:30 with really sore calves (from the concerts) contemplating whether to actually leave the apartment today. Around 2 ish I decided I wanted to get pho at my fav restaurant on Bowery. I thought about putting on makeup for fun, but decided my face needed a break from all the concert makeup lol. Then when I left, I doubled back in for my sunglasses because it was actually really nice out, 80+ degrees and really sunny.

I took the A train to Fulton St and transferred onto the J for Bowery, because I didn’t feel like doing the usual A to Canal and walking 15 minutes. Again, my legs were hurting haha. I waited at Fulton for about 10 minutes for the J, it was hot af, and then when I finally arrived on Bowery I turned north instead of south towards the restaurant. Walked a few blocks and turned around thinking like “Dang it Kim you should know this.” Actually looked at the New Museum and thought about going in because I had nothing else going on, but decided that I was way too hungry, would go to the restaurant first, and then I should still have time to check the museum out before it closes.

Walking back south, waiting for the pedestrian light to turn for me to cross Broome St., I saw a guy from behind with long hair bleached blonde, with black roots. I was actually listening to ONE OK ROCK on this whole commute, and naturally I was still thinking about the concerts, so I saw this guy and remember thinking, “huh, his hair looks a lot like Ryota’s.” I glanced around really quickly and noticed that it’s a bunch of artsy looking people in black, there’s a camera, some equipment etc, pretty common in manhattan. THEN I start crossing the street, Ryota turns around, I’m instantly like H OL Y FUCKING S H I T.

Theyre right at the corner, so when I touch the sidewalk on the other side I just kinda freeze, and Ryota notices me staring at him, acknowledges me, smiles, and says “Hi!” I’m just freaking out in my head, and I say “Hello!” back. He waits for me to say something really patiently ( as in like the few seconds where I’m still gathering my imploding thoughts) and I  tell him I went to see their two shows here, and I don’t think he heard me the first time so he asked if I went to their shows, and I said “Yes I went to both of the shows!” I don’t remember his exact words but he smiled and looked excited/surprised and said something along the lines of “Wow! That’s awesome/great!” and then I noticed Michelle, his wife, standing there and asked really awkwardly “Your wife?” and he answered like “yes this is my wife”  and internally I was like smh why am I weird what do I say but then I started spewing out  things like “The shows were amazing thank you so much for coming!” and I told him I saw them here before too in 2015 and he was surprised/excited and I just kept saying thank you (???) and he was really smiley and nice. I asked if he’s having fun in New York and he said “Yes!!” Then he turned and said something in Japanese and I realized he was gesturing to TAKA who THEN WALKS OVER and says YO! Or HEY! (I forget) and I shake his hand like “Hello!” At this point I haven’t noticed anyone at all because I was so shocked in that moment that I was talking to Ryota and then it dawns on me that yes the others must be here too. Then I tell Taka that I went to both of their shows and they were amazing, thank you so much for coming please come back soon (this string of words comes up often lol) and he was surprised/excited and said “That’s awesome! Thank you” Then, again, I tell Taka that in 2015 I saw them here, and I met them and they signed my CD (35xxxv) and he was like “Really? Wow!” and I was just going thank you so much I love your music thank you, asked if he’s having fun in new york, he says “Yeah!” And I asked for a photo and he said “of course!” and we selfied and then WE HUGGED and I said “thank you so much! I hope you have a great day!” And he said “Thanks!” and I kinda just walk over to Toru. Remember, this is still HELLA FUCKING SURREAL so just then as I took a few steps I was like “That’s Toru. I’m just walking over to him.” And he’s tall! And I say Hi! And he says hi! And I (insert telling him I went to his shows thank you etc etc) and he was like Thank you! And honestly sorry if I am uninformed but I wasn’t sure if Ryota, Toru and Tomoya could speak English very well but they answered so fast and looked so engaged in what I was saying I felt so special omg 😭 (but in retrospect it makes complete sense because they hang out with a lot of American bands) but YEAH. And at some point Toru said that they were going to come back soon and I asked “Do you know when?” and he kinda just smiled (sWOON) and I laugh and I asked for a photo and he takes this goofy-ass selfie with me. I thought it was funny behind I accidentally unlocked my phone and was on the music app with NO SCARED playing and was fumbling to do the iphone-swipe-from-the-bottom-camera and he saw it haha. And then I say Thank you! AND WE HUG and hes taller than me so I LEAN UP TO HUG. And then Tomoya is actually standing RIGHT THERE ready to talk to me and says HI TO ME FIRST and im just thinking (“THESE MEN ARE TOO NICE THEY SEE ME HAVING A HEART ATTACK AND KNOW IM A FAN AND GREET ME GOD BLESS OMG”) and I tell him thank you so much for the shows and he smiles! And I try to tell him it’s hard to see him behind his drums from near the stage but he was amazing but I kinda get stuck in my words so he’s like “haha thank you!”  anyways. And he sees me holding my phone and says “Photo?” and im like “Yes!” and we take a selfie! AND HUG And then I say thank you and they have to leave. This whole time I’m vaguely aware the camera men were filming me and then they approach me and the band make their way out. As Taka, Ryota, Toru, and Tomoya were getting in the van they waved goodbye and I waved bye back! And then they were gone. This was all so fast, probably in the span of seven, maybe twn minutes.

Camera people aren’t as exciting but they asked me like,

“What’s it like seeing them in concert, and then just seeing them here on the street?”

“What’s your favorite song?”

“How did you discover them”

and they prompted me for my emotional response to the band and I talked about how their music especially for youth my age really inspires us to keep going and I talked about “We Are” and honestly I was just so frazzled like legit my hand was on my chest and my heart was pumping lol. The camera man thought it was hilarious how I took a different subway trip and turned the wrong way at first and somehow ran into the band I just saw in concert.  And they were so excited for me and happy to talk to me! After filming I asked the manager or supervisor or something what they were doing here, and we were standing outside of what looks like to be a restaurant and he explained to me that there is a studio downstairs and they just had a jam session. And the camera man pulls out his phone and shows me a video of the session and Im just like wow! Thank you. And they talked about how theyre filming a documentary and that I will be able to see it in the fall, and I signed a paper to let them use the footage lol.

And yeah guys! Sorry this is some kind of inarticulate diary post but that was my day today! I planned on going grocery shopping/museum visiting but after meeting them I was so shook I couldn’t really handle more functioning lol. I got pho, despite how my former appetite was just eliminated from how excited I was, and continued to freak out to my friend on my phone the whole time I was eating lol. P sure the waiter thought I was weird for intensely smiling while eating lmao.

Tl;dr, the men of ONE OK ROCK are so down to earth and friendly and adorable and kind and I’m so grateful they accommodated me, a spazzy fan that interrupted whatever they were doing. I HUGGED THEM AND TALKED TO THEM AND GOT PHOTOS (except I missed one with Ryota on accident because I wasn’t thinking coherently yet 😭) .  I cant believe that all my random decisions today, including bumming it in my bed until 2 PM led to this amazing moment. So yeah, this weekend was fantastic!!!

I am still so happy and I plan on nursing this high for at least a week haha.

QUESTION 3. At the moment, who is your favorite character? What about that character earns them this favor?

QUESTION 4. Who or what are Argon and Xenon, the gods in the comic’s world? What do you think their original purpose was? Why do you think only Augur’s can deal with them?

1) the scene where nikita realizes mikhail is, umm, not going to be joining him for anymore adventures. i liked this scene for two reasons. a-the framing was really great because it was fairly normal. like hes injured, of course hed be resting and of course nikita would have to shake him. no reason to suggest anything is off at first until it was all off. b- the pacing was also great. like everything was pretty speedy and then just wham, its like everything got halted for that beautiful moment of horrible realization. A+ adventure retirement scene. 2) I think the ancient people did what all dumb humans do: war against each other until they destroyed themselves. partly cause that be what humans do, partly cause the sense of war in the story seems very ancient and ingrained and i just get the feeling this has existed for longer than anyone can remember. i think eventually they will recover a lot of tech, but i also think theyre going to find out the true price that tech kind of comes at. and that the universe is more than their brains are ready to accept or comprehend.

3) Franquelim. I find him interesting and just in general I like his portrayal. Like you don't even need to know his job to take one look at him and go "this is the weird employee who doesnt fit in and is potentially hated by his superiors despite probably being good at his job." and to me, that makes him a lot of fun. i think he also adds some shenanigans to an otherwise serious and grounded group. and everyone needs some shenanigans in their life. 4) I want to assume Argon and Xenon are AI's that were created in order to advocate for the prosperity of humanity. Granted, probably damaged AIs or incomplete ones since they don't know everything there is to know. As for why only Augurs, I assume its as it was implied: only they can understand them. Which want to go on a limb and say maybe no because magic? It might just be Augurs got the right studying. Like they learned how to read C++ while everyone else only got taught Ruby.

yeah i have to agree part of the reason i like franquelim is despite his shenanigans, he also is kind of the most grounded in the way. the dude who is like "maybe we shouldnt get ambushed." the dude whos like "hey maybe we should call for backup given the circumstances." he is the beautiful voice of reason in a world gone mad.

QUESTION 5. What has been your favorite illustration in the comic so far? What specifically about it do you like?

QUESTION 6. How do you think Nikita came to be a “slave” of the Empire, and what else happened that makes him so sensitive about the topic of his past? Will Nikita be able to overcome this obstacle of his life?

5) http://sarilho.net/en/arquivo/comic/ch03p06 This page in its entirety. The contrast here is fantastic between the clean and normal art and the chaotic presence of the piece of god. It's also a fantastic demonstration of pushing the page and website capabilities to bring about a specific feeling, in this case uneasiness and horror. I also like this illustration because it's very well suited to the dialogue. Franquelim is trying to express his ardent belief they need help and this is beyond them. And this sort of illustration really helps connect you to his concerns because you can see with the imagery why he is freaked out. Thus, emotionally it connects you stronger with his emotional state in this moment and scream "YES YES GET THE HELP GET THE HELP." So all in all, I think this illustration has great contrast, pushes the envelope, and does what I think an illustration should do in a comic: make itself so both the story and illustration are needed together to create the full effect.

Frank has had his share of battles and he's not keen to get into newer ones

Steffano knows that if they are caught (or bring an army in), war is bound to happen (again) and he's got his own selfish reasons for not wanting that. He's also not a particularly experienced leader and has trouble making these kind of decisions

The rest of the team kinda reflects what the empire thinks of itself, as Mikhail puts it "we're better trained, we have better resources and we're more talented". That attitude gotta interfere with decision-making as well

6) Maybe some sort of empire betrayal? Like their dad got found guilty of a bad crime or something. As for his sensitivity, I honestly just think it stems from the fact he wants to move on and create his own path and life. And it doesn't help when everyone keeps reminding you and asking questions. That and if he doesnt talk about it, he doesnt have to face the reality himself. As for overcoming the obstacle, I don't feel it'll be solved in a tangible way? More I just feel like the bigger fish that need frying are going to dominant and more and more ppl will just stop caring. Cause again, bigger fish.

what the other soldiers say about Nikita is right for the most part: he does keep a lot to himself and the part where he clearly can't control a lot of things in his life is a point of stress he'd rather ignore(edited)

(I hope I can bring up in the following chapter just how much he internalized his own social situation to the point that he almost forgets that other people can quit their jobs if they so desire)

QUESTION 9. What sorts of art or story details have you noticed in the way the comic is crafted that you think deserve attention?

QUESTION 10. What is the strange entity that Nikita and company discover, and what do you think its purpose is? Also, is it really a piece of God somehow? What implications do you think that has for the story in general, especially given Lusitanian involvement?

7) Well I did enjoy seeing Nikita and Mikhail. I found their dynamic to be interesting due to the contrast. they were just both very different ppl who viewed themselves differently, viewed the empire sort of differently, viewed their place in the empire differently, etc. This kind of made their conversations really insightful into getting two diff perspectives on "the way things are." its too bad mikhail retired. 8) I assume torture at best, hardcore torture at worst. Though for him torture might have consisted of just keeping him eternally connected to god? cause thats be torturous info overload that probably wouldve hurt a lot. As for affecting his judgement, I def think he's the most likely to do something stupid based on it. Like do some drastic thing like set off a bomb just so he doesnt have to get caught again.

9) I want to say i really love the more rampant use of narrative boxes that specify the location in the most recent chapter. TBH, I really struggled to follow the second chapter because the transitions were hard to catch just cause matching uniforms. So in the third chapter this helped out immensely and i think its a detail that deserves to be appreciated. 10) If I stick with my Argon and Xenon are just AIs theory, then yeah, its probably a piece of god. A piece that got disconnected from the network but was original like some waypoint for vast interstellar communication. As for its purpose, I don't think it has one. I think it's gone bonkers cause being disconnected from teh core has made it unable to access primarydirective.exe. As for implications, I think it's going to spark a war at the rate things are devolving. even if nikita and then somehow disappear into the night, the lusitanians are clearly hiding something that cant stay hidden forever.

I think Eurico's goal is probably just to get this squad out of their lands. I expect some level of "you don't know what you're dealing with trying to interact with this God-level technology, so leave now or you're seriously going to get hurt" conversation.

Regarding strengths and unique points, O Sarilho's very good at establishing extremely human-feeling characters very quickly. I like the fact that I know Nikita likes astronomy. I like the fact that Daria, Pfeiffer, and Timoteo have a dynamic and history of teasing each other. I like that Franquelim relies on drugs and coffee because he's Seen Some Things. The details brings a lot of personal stakes and heart into what could otherwise be a very dry military post-apoc story, and that's hard to do with a cast this large. I'm looking forward to learning more about the characters! It feels like we're just at the tip of the iceberg for worldbuilding, but I can tell that a lot of thought and care has been put into how technology affects their lives through big things like religious views and small things like what kind of curse words they use. I'm also looking forward to learning about the power/class dynamics that are happening with the military and Houses like Steffano's and Daria's. The integration of web design and animation for impact is also extremely well-executed wherever it's used, but it's not overused to the point where the reader becomes used to it, which is important for giving those scenes emphasis.

For me, the strongest and most unique part of the comic is the visual aspect. Like, even putting the animated and panel-busting pages aside, the colors used are outstanding at conveying the proper emotions. Like even on this early page: http://sarilho.net/en/arquivo/comic/prologo-8 Franquelim's colors are brighter, they're bleeding off his body, and they give off this aesthetic that's the perfect mix of computer-y and mystical. Right off the bat something seems unusual about this comic's universe, yet the other characters barely glance at him. That's great visual conveyance.(edited)

11) i agree with everyone else so far in that i think the comic's strengths are the usage of color and the use of animation and web design effects. every choice where these are concerned feels purposeful and really enhances the atmosphere of the moment. i feel they are what give a lot of the scenes their unique punch, as well as also add some visual context to characters' emotions where relevant. 12) Eurico just wants to have a tea party and needs to know if Nikita is game. But joke aside, he probably wants to tell Nikita some truths that Eurico thinks Nikita wasnt told. So that way maybe everyone can leave and nobody else has to die and no wars have to start. Which that last one is wishful thinking imo XD 13) I'm looking forward to more Franquelim doing his weirdo Augur things and everyone being like, "Sure my dude." But really, I just want to see more of that bundle of joy and fun. 14) I think the team is going to deal somewhat poorly. Cause not all of them seemed to take the mission all that serious and I think the hit of seriousness is gonna have some longterm PTSD affects. I mean I'm sure theyll play it off like theyre fine. But itll just be an army of Nikita's in that if they dont talk about it, they dont have to think or deal with it. XD As for the peace treaty, yes and no. I don't think Nikita and company will be responsible, but I think the piece of god might. And yes, yes more people are surely doomed to die. I'd even go so far as to say just assume everyone is gonna die by the end XD RIP

I gotta imagine the peace treaty is going to get affected, though. They're going to try to keep it quiet, but it's gonna get out somehow. Steffano's got a sinister aura around him, so maybe he'd spin the situation in a way that would benefit his political position.

(I could be wrong, but I adore it when people have ridiculously wrong theories about my comic so I'll just throw it out there.)

Also, was it Fausta that the "Foreigner" was trying to communicate through? I wonder if she's got some affinity for that and if she's going to be further used in that capacity

Yes! Fausta is lusitanian-born, so she is naturally empathic and that's why the foreigner picked her out of the crew

it's interesting how the empath was affected rather than the augur. like, from my understanding, fausta's thing is reading people's emotions, while augurs can read the word of the gods/computers. so on the one hand, if the foreigner is communicating with fausta, does that mean the foreigner is human? but on the other hand, franq said that the foreigner's speech feels exactly like what connecting to the gods is like...

basically reading it felt like ms had maybe never had a conversation with a gay person in her whole life?? like once she said something like she didn’t want to treat the m/m relationship in her books any different from the m/f relationship... which is totally bullshit. first of all? adam and ronan literally barely speak for like two books (also i should say this is all based on the first 3 books bc i didnt read the last one.) and theres literally a moment where i forget who but either blue or gansey on page thinks “i have a crush on them” meanwhile in the third book, that is literally all about ronan coming to terms with his sexuality, she never even says it out right that he’s crushing on adam?? she uses weird vague language that could be about adam or they could be about like. the forest.

the romantic feelings dont seem to develop from anywhere? he just apparently has them which is fine i guess but it doesn’t make for a very interesting book when you have a young adult angsting about being attracted to his friend when u dont address the attraction or acknowledge his feelings in text or anything?? to be fair i think the het romance was also horribly written but at least she said they liked each other on the dang page

like this woman literally wrote in a line that compared said if blue was a lamp gansey thought she was a great lamp, and “ronan didn’t care for lamps” like what does that even mean!!! who writes like that!! and like the main demographic of the series is straight girls (altho i know there are non straight girls who like it too) but i feel like no one really talks about how many problems it has, because boys KISS and theyre so GAY but it really frustrates me that something thats not very well written can have such an enormous fanbase that is also largely uncritical of any of it. and i’m not even addressing the racist or misogynistic undertones

1.) Does your Five speak? If not, why not? nope! they cannot. they got in a car crash a year or two pre-apocalypse and (makes vague hand motions and mumbles something about smoke damage to vocal chords) no voice. im not a doctor. they know asl (bc theyre from america), they started learning it to entertain themselves while bedridden. sam picks it up after ‘a voice in the dark’ bc “were friends now, we should be able to talk!” idk how different asl and bsl are or if they’d be able to find resources on asl in england i haven’t thought that deeply about it but it’s probably fine. adrien gets by through a combination of signing to their close friends who have learned it, whispering, writing notes, and complicated games of charades, depending on the situation. its a whole system. 2.) Who are your Five’s best friends? (rolls out a mile long sheet of paper) ok so. sam, because duh, they support each other through everything. simon’s their partner in crime; the devil on their shoulder to sam’s angel. adrien’s really close to maxine, too, and paula increasingly after s3. they have a huge amount of respect for janine, but dont consider her a “friend” until s4 or so. sara’s a hugely important mentor and source of inspiration. they weren’t rly friends with jaimie bc he wasn’t around abel long, but they wanted to be. jody’s a good pal, too. and they really like tom and want to make up for, like, everything that happened to him in s4 and before. i could do this all fuckin day honestly but i don’t think i’m missing anyone major so i’ll stop. the actual Best Friends Tier is probably sam, simon, sara, maxine. 3.) Does your Five have any love interests? 5amon ride or fucking die. obvi their current relationship w simon is. complicated but i think it could be repaired. they def still care about him. and i don’t need to qualify 5am like Come On. 4.) Who does your Five not hang out with outside of work? there’s not many people they outright dislike. they’re a forgiving person to a fault lmao. like. sam does something to mess with them in d&d and adrien won’t speak to him for a week, but someone tries to kill them? i mean they had their reasons, i’m sure. actually the only big one i can think of is the major? not that they don’t respect her, but her mentality of treating people as soldiers and resources instead of people doesn’t sit right with them. they know its /necessary/ but that doesn’t mean they /like/ it. 5.) What kind of hairstyle does your Five sport? just kinda. short n’ layered. black, they’re a good portion native american. probably chippewa, mid-michigan. they let it grow out until it falls in their eyes too much or until they start putting it in tiny ugly ponytails and someone steps in. naga and i outlined a whole fiasco of them asking simon to cut it once and him giving them a bowl cut. it earns him the silent treatment for weeks and no one without a medical license is allowed to cut adrien’s hair ever again. 6.) What is your Five’s relationship to Abel D&D night? they’re super into it. they play an elven rouge who hates everything except money and his friends. this is also one of the situations where they unashamedly like. bang on the table or sth when they have an Idea that Must Be Heard. 7.) What’s one wacky headcanon about Abel? THIS IS REALLY HARD im kind of stealing nagas answer but i just have a bunch of little things about what they get up to as people trying to keep joy alive in the apocalypse. goofy holiday parties and meme wars on rofflenet. this is less wacky but i really like the idea that runners just Get each other in a way other people at abel don’t. like they have symbols and things they leave in the field, they have certain sensitive topics they never bring up, without discussion, they sit on each others bunks whispering their hopes and fears until they ‘accidentally’ fall asleep on each other. no one questions it or teases. sometimes you just don’t want to spend the night alone in the dark. that wasn’t wacky that was emo and gay. 8.) What’s one wacky headcanon about your Five? dang this is hard, too. um. they use signing to gossip a lot. for a while sam’s the only one who knows it and they can talk shit literally behind janine’s back. she she starts catching onto words like “hardass” and “strict” and they start making up codes until they’re signing shit like “the beaver jumped over the fence again, can you believe it?” simon only starts learning because he’s pretty sure they’re openly mocking him. (they are.) 9.) How did your Five end up at Mullins base? good question my dude. um. they’re american, they were taking their last semester of college abroad when the apocalypse hit. maybe their university advised them to do there? maybe they just ran for the nearest place that sounded defensible? don’t worry about it. 10.) What doesn’t your Five miss about the pre-apocalypse world? cars. their accident left them with a huge fear of them. they can’t drive, they can only really ride in a car if they’re reading or on their phone or somehow distracting themselves from ever looking out the window. walking everywhere being a necessity and not a weird quirk is a blessing. and just the volume of people? they have a Thing about being talked over or drowned out because they were a really passive kid, and just when they started finding their metaphorical voice as a person, they lost their literal voice. in the apocalypse there’s just less people to talk to at a time. its a lot easier to snap their fingers or sth and be like “hey, you interrupted me.”

the mall didn't burn down entirely (like from the outside it looked fine). the ventilation system caught fire so it was more internal—ceilings and all that. covered things with soot(?) and ashes so the entire mall was closed for nearly 2 years. and hey, i've experienced a school fire too back when i was younger. i, too, thought it was nothing but a fire drill until i saw the charred remains of the buildings behind our school : D thankfully, no one died.

the new nct track is for a samsung commercial AHAHA it's funny because nearly everyone uses apple TT_TT and the mv screams neo culture tech tho (well as it should lmao). yes, i was talking about that part in hot sauce but yes, it grew on me too.

ateez really know how to do a performance. they put the standard so high for me when it came to performing. their facial expressions and overall stage presence just impresses me. it's been a while since i've seen idols draw me to them by those standards.

oof the pd48 scandal is extremely complicated. to condense it in a few statements: all of the girls' rankings have been rigged since the very beginning and it was rumored that they already had their end group before the show even started. it was like this for pf48 and pdx101 (group x1) which was why x1 disbanded within a month of debuting, and izone were on hiatus for like 4 months. im not the best at explaining stuff like this haha, but i think you get it. you can check out yt or search up 'pd48 scandal', a ton of articles and videos. as for new groups, nothing has been made clear yet. theyve only made instagram handles for now and appeared on variety shows haha. as for acting career, hyewon was supposed to do acting but was forced to join pd48 so maybe she'll continue acting afterwards? nothing is confirmed yet!

QUESTION 5. Why is the Storyteller helping Syrma? What exactly are the Storyteller’s ultimate goals regarding Arunor? Do you believe Puck will remain loyal to the Storyteller, or will he now work for Deneb?

QUESTION 6. What do you believe Henna did in the past that caused her to be exiled from the court of the sidhe? What does this have to do with Henna turning into a monster? Also, what deal did Henna make with Puck?

1) my favorite scene is probably when henna goes to bathe and puck shows up and we start learning that something is wrong with henna. i enjoy the illustration work a lot with how much detailed work is put into henna's appearance. but i also just like the elements added to the story because it really adds this forboding sense that time is running out for everyone really, not just syrma. and i think the addition really helps to add more stakes to the matter, since the more lives in the balance the better? XD 2) this is a tough choice. probably henna. of the designs i like hers the most because its just so strange, mystical, and beautiful at the same time. but also i like how teasing she can get in one scene but then serious and badass in another. all around shes just a really intriguing character to me that i enjoy learning about. 3) I wouldnt label Nirur as "evil" so much as id probably assume hes self-absorbed and concerned only with his well-being. as for his role, i assume some magic shenanigans where somehow syrma's death will help release him. although i feel like not everything is as it seems. like nirur expects his sister to fail and is just trying to get syrma to come to him to trick her into using her inability to be affected by magic to bust him out of god jail. but just spit balling on that one i have no real evidence other then i assume nirur is cunning. 4) i think maybe the liosalfar saved menkar's life. and that menkar may have really just been depressed and had nowhere else to go at the time. i dont think itll reall affect the quest so much as make syrma go "omg hugs for menkar"

5) given the convo the storyteller had with hatal, im gonna assume hes helping syrma out of boredom. cause it seems implied that their world is just kind of stuck and static, never changing and never growing. and i think the storyteller just wants that to change. which i mean to be fair, you cant be a good storyteller when there are no stories to tell. and you cant have good stories without change, growth, and progress. as for puck, yeah i think hes gonna remain loyal to the storyteller. just cause deneb probably wouldnt help him even if he helped her. 6) im gonna just take a stab in the dark here and say maybe forbidden magic comboed with a lack of deference to the crown. although i assume that henna was exiled partly because nobody wants a monster in their lands, so better to get them out before theyre too dangerous to lose. as for the deal, help syrma and get cured? i mean that seems the most likely. and i assume it was a generally vague deal that henna partly regrets cause theres a lot of help needed.

1) This may be a weird choice, but I really liked the scene when Syrma kissed Menkar and ran off. Or rather, that's the scene that made me like her. It's not that I ship them (I'm aro and rarely get excited for shippy stuff). Rather, it made her feel more 3-dimensional to me. There's a lot of scenes portraying her as this perky, reckless warrior-huntress... But there's gotta be more to her than just the fighting and the hunting, right? And that kiss scene did it for me. She was still the same perky, reckless girl, so it wasn't like showing an unexpected hidden side of her. But it still showed that there are mundane moments in her life, too.

6) There is a short story in the Threads anthology that goes over this. I actually read that short story before reading the main comic... It doesn't explain everything, but it explains a lot.

QUESTION 7. What do you believe the group will do regarding the last potion ingredient since Henna’s blood is useless? How might Farian and the other sidhe help or hurt the situation?

I need to do an archive binge of this comic again but I wanna just say that I love this story. Love Syrma and want to see how she achieves her goals. I love the art style. It's clean and professional but it's on a stylistic side that attracts me (I tend to not go for stories, especially fantasies, where the cast looks too realistic). Keep up the amazing work, Monica! :D

1. What has been your favorite scene in the comic so far? What specifically did you like about it? http://moonslayercomic.com/comic/ch5-20/ I loved this sequence -- Syrma getting the Angisu was pretty dang neat to see, especially when she threw the flames at the monsters! 2. Probably Deneb. She's got enough mystery around her, but so far I just like how... IDK, goal-oriented she is? She's interesting so far, and I want to know what she has in mind for Syrma. 3. NO IDEA! I think Deneb probably expects that Syrma will take her place, and that's why she chose her and took her magic -- this was all necessary to get her ready. 4. Menkar was probably going to be king before the other guy was put in place, and things went badly. 5. I can't really say why the storyteller might be helping Syrma, but I do wonder how much of this has to do with fate? Alternatively, Deneb could be totally losing it and degenerating somehow, and he's trying to find a peaceful end for her. ...Granted, nothing involving Syrma ever seems to be peaceful for long. 6. ...Y'know, I'd like to know what Henna did? I imagine her exile is directly related to becoming a monster, and is just a consequence of not being with her people... I do think, based on the cast page, that Henna probably helped Iris become immortal, which pissed off several sidhe.

1. Definitely the sequence where Syrma first uses the Angisu. The flames turning into claws around her hands... beautiful. 2. Syrma. I just love the way you see her grow up throughout the comic. 3. I think Deneb wants to use Syrma to free her brother somehow? I'm not sure how sacrificing Syrma would help with that, however. 4. I agree with Rebel on this one. Menkar was exiled for his betrayal, and the liosalfar took him in. 5. I think it's possible the Storyteller just disagrees with Deneb's actions, and wants to stop her somehow? As for Puck, I think he may pretend to be loyal to Deneb, but I still think he's going to help Syrma overall. 6. Agreed with the other sentiments, I'd also like to posit that maybe Henna doesn't know if she's actually helping Syrma, or if she's a traitor. After all, she threatened to reveal her deal with Puck to Syrma and Menkar, which isn't something you do if you're only being helpful.

QUESTION 8. What insight do you believe the beginning of the comic gives us to the current story? What do you predict given that Syrma was warned about being seduced and is also emphasized to be all alone?

i want to add to some of the discussion that i kind of think deneb isnt losing it. i think shes already lost it. XD in the sense that shes just being completely used by her brother and just flat out cant see it. is so dedicated to him nothing about morality or anything else registers to her anymore. its all about getting nirur out of prison, even her children be damned. 7) maybe theyre gonna be extremists and kidnap farian. cause that can only go well right? although i forsee them getting majorly delayed, caught, and sent to sidhe court. puck can be their lawyer. 8) the fact shes all alone....gonna be honest. i just assume everyone be dead. henna is a monster, puck got offed by deneb, menkar died fighting the dragon. cause i dont have optimism from that beginning. i feel like the warning about being seduced is gonna cause syrma to maybe sympathize with deneb some. see that she is a victim of nirur's machinations. and then syrma will kill them both cause i mean the title is moonslayer O_O

Maybe Nirur lost it and that's why he's locked up... and Deneb's susceptible to the same issue as him. And Syrma's... well, Syrma's going to take over for both of them. Regarding question 8 -- I'm honestly worried xD Like, what's Nirur gonna do? Try and tempt her with power and such? Surely he knows she's not really attracted to that... Unless he can promise her all sorts of things like, her family back, a happy life... using illusions. But maybe he'll also just try to win her heart. XD

QUESTION 9. Do you believe that Syrma and Menkar’s relationship is changing, or is it all just playful teasing? How might the growing tension between them change the direction of Syrma’s quest?

No idea what Syrma's intentions are, but I don't think Menkar's going to take the teasing seriously. like 1) from his point of view, syrma was a baby yesterday, and 2) pretty sure he watched his wife and kid(s) die.

It reminds me of something from a game, when a human character and a dragon character interact. They'd met and fought together as allies in a war 3 years prior. They reunite, the dragon gives the human what he needed, and goes on her way. Human: Wait! Aren't we going to talk and catch up? It's been 3 years! Dragon: What? But we saw each other just 3 years ago!

My guess is Syrma has a crush that she's okay with being unrequited, because she understands there are the differences between them. By the same token, I think she might feel jealous if Menkar were to pursue a relationship with another woman, especially a mortal/non-dragon woman (I don't think this likely, just speaking hypothetically). Not like vehemently jealous, just a "hey I thought... ugh n/m " kinda thing.

9) i do think the relationship is changing. they seem way too blushy and into the flirting for it not to be. but more i think the dynamic thats changing is them both kind of coming to terms with the fact that they may have some feelings for each other, even if they dont know what to do with them. in terms of changing the direction of syrma's question, i assume itll motivate her more. up until menkar probably gets killed cause i ahve no hope for him to live through this quest. 10) i am looking forward to syrma's growth most of all i think. cause shes still got a ways to go before she's ready for any moon slaying. so im interested to see in how the future trials challenge her and prepare her for the task at hand.

I'm looking forward to finding out what the whole deal is with the intro, obviously! Wanna know what everyone's endgame is: Storyteller, Puck, Nirur, Deneb, etc. (I also wonder if the sun is ever gonna be more involved? )
