What an eleven year old gets wrong about Scooby do (a response
I’m glad that we have all agreed that the abomination known as Velma however strangely enough an eleven year old girl who somehow is a publisher in a magazine block is saying that Scooby doo is bad and Velma is good now you’re probably thinking why are you responding to this she’s an 11 year old kid and too that I say if she’s old enough to post in a magazine she’s old enough to be corrected now let’s go
Tumblr media
Okay first off the fact that you’re eleven years old and you watched Velma bring me some concern because Velma is a very adult show (somehow!)with both its content and humor if you were 14-18 I’d be less bewildered but should your parents be letting you watch this?
Tumblr media
Well yes these are all valid reasons for both sides to dislike it as one it’s a cheap attempt to be representative by taking an established skin color intrest and changing just to appeal to the left instead of genuine creativity and her personality is awful and liberals hate it because it’s a poor attempt at being woke some even go so far as to say it feels like satire of the left then a genuine representation
Tumblr media
No there was more than that there was the slapstick the wisecracks the chase scenes the disguises and the stoner thing didn’t start until James gunns film I’ll have you know so this tells me you didn’t watch the original show which puts the rest of your criticisms into question.
Tumblr media
And guess who was the one who started that trend it was Scooby doo
Tumblr media
Funny? Please and that’s an insult there are a lot of people who loved the original Velma and found charm in how she was portrayed she was the smart and nerdy girl in the group and that’s what we loved about her and as far as her being flat yeah that was the point this was back when cartoons were made to entertain people that’s like complaining the looney tunes are flat Tom and Jerry are flat Mickey and his friends are flat
Tumblr media
News flash Snot nose! She was interested in boys before like Ben ravencroft(witches ghost) and windsor(phantosaurus) so it didn’t confirm anything if anything it retconned and I care because it did exactly that (and don’t reference Buffy again please)
Tumblr media
Well it’s normal for most actors to play similar roles due to the fact that it’s what they are good at for instance Jim Carey typically plays in these comedic eccentric roles whereas Tim curry is fond of playing villains the difference is those people are able to put a different twist on each role but that’s not what I heard I heard it’s because Velma in this show feels like nothing more than a mindy kaling self insert and to say Velma has never had a personality is asinine I’ve seen other shows give her a unique personality that was well what you described whereas Mindy kailing’s velma is a total jerk a know it all someone close to being a Mary sue and she isn’t funny she’s just a jerk (and Daphne has a personality you know)
Tumblr media
Yes we all knew that shaggy’s real name is norville your not impressing anybody and he isn’t complex considering he basically develops in reverse and it’s very poorly done to consider Velma treats him like trash
Tumblr media
There were more jokes than just those two and Scooby Isn’t important he’s the face of the franchise he and shaggy’s bond is one of the most iconic things in cartoon history about as iconic as bugs and daffy or Tom and Jerry and the more serious interpretations show that Scooby is the glue that holds the team together
Tumblr media
That’s not funny that’s being pathetic and the Scooby doo joke was horrible it was so on the nose a good in joke should be something that those who have done their research will understand for instance in animaniacs one of my favorite in jokes was this
youtube
The joke here is funny because once you know the whole backstory it puts everything here in a funnier light
Scooby doo has been a part of my childhood for a long while I remember growing up watching reruns on the boomerang channel this is one of the most influential cartoons of all time and the see it desecrated and devalued just ticked me off if 11 year olds are exposing themselves to this drivel I worry for our future that’s my response let me know what you think

Can we talk about Devi's development
This season's storyline was so well crafted for so many reasons.
Devi getting over Paxton. Their relationship wasn't working because Devi had so much self-hatred rooted in how others saw her and her culture. It made so much sense for them to break up because the whole relationship was built on Devi's idolization of Paxton and how she felt unworthy. By the end of the season, she is able to have a healthy friendship with him, and Paxton also gets to feel like more than just some object of lust. She's also able to actually choose to be with Ben.
Devi's relationship with Des. This was like the beginning of her loving herself. Since she saw a reflection of herself (i.e. her culture, values, and goals), in Des (the smart, nerdy kid) who she also saw as attractive and cool, she was able to love herself more. Devi has only seen herself and other brown kids as her as uncool. Des is the kind of real-life representation she needed to break out of that self-hatred. (The reason why representation in media is so important.) Also, it was pretty obvious that Mindy Kaling was having a moment pairing Devi with a brown guy. But the end of their relationship was kind of realistic. Speaking from experience, brown guys live for their mothers.
Overcoming her trauma. With all of Devi's growth, she's able to focus on more important things and can handle her feelings better. She was able to overcome some of her grief at the concert because she has support. Her relationship with her mother has been strengthened so much this season which is such a thing for brown girls. The difference in her relationship with her mother in the first season to now is absolutely beautiful.
There's a million more things I want to say about this season. I love how she's making sensible choices now and is actually a likeable character. There are obviously always places to improve, but, as far as representation I never had goes, this show will always be one of my favorites.

My thoughts on NHIE S3:
Devi wears sweaters an awful lot for someone who lives in Southern California
I really want Devi’s green butterfly sweater. I can’t find it anywhere online. If you could send a link to that I’d really appreciate it
My favorite ship so far this season is Kamala and Mr. K
But if I were Devi seeing my cousin date my teacher would be the most embarrassing thing ever. Like eww I don’t wanna know you fuck my cousin
People saying Devi is a toxic character need to STFU. She hasn’t killed anyone or ruined people’s lives for good like all the middle-aged white male anti-heroes we’ve seen who mind you, got praised for it. Just admit you can’t stand seeing young WOC lash out or watch the goddamned Disney channel instead to watch a teenage girl be well-behaved
Kamala’s apartment? Let’s just say I’m glad that Desi parents don’t put their kids into show business like her neighbors do
Devi’s grandma is a badass
Lol when Mr. K tells Devi’s Grandma about how he has zero connections to the culture
Paxton has so many nice things to say about Devi
Glad Ben and Aneesa split
Kind of rooted Aneesa and Fabiola but glad things didn’t get in the way of their friendship
Really don’t like Trent and Eleanor together and how she has to be the one to talk sense into him all the time. I know it’s supposed to be this opposites attract dynamic with them, but it doesn’t work here.
Loved Des and Devi together. He was a good influence on her and he didn’t get offended when Devi would say she was better than him or anything like that
The way Des exudes coolness, good God. He doesn’t try to act like he’s someone else and isn’t a fuckboy.
LMFAO’d when Rhylah walked in on them when they were at second base
Surprised that Nalini let Devi date him
But fuck Rhylah for being a two-faced kutti. She helps Devi overcome her panic attack and then has the gall to say she’s a danger to her son? Her dad died the night of her recital, you pretentious asshole!
If it wasn’t for her I’d want them to stay together
How TF is Devi considered a loser when she’s made out with four dudes before graduating high school?
This show has such a good soundtrack
The principal calling the French theater night event a school sanctioned orgy 🤣
If I were Devi I would’ve gone to the Colorado school but I know she wants to be with her friends and family
WTF?! She chose to lose her V-card to Ben? I love enemies to lovers just like everyone else and know this is common in Mindy Kaling’s stuff, but it didn’t seem to me like Ben genuinely changed. I just really didn’t want her losing it to a white guy. Then again he’s a saint compared to Danny Castellano *cough* cough*
But I like to think they kiss and then it feels awkward to her and she runs out of the room. We’ll have to wait till season 4

Slocg finale thoughts and spoilers🚨🚨🚨🚨
Bela: As I've stated in a previous post, I had a feeling a new comedy group would get started. It would have been nice to see the legacy of The Catullan thrive and change for the better, but this is a good thing. Bela is charismatic and has the makings of a fantastic leader. Also Eric and Bela absolutely make sense. They’re basically Mindy Kaling and Bj Novak. I do understand why people are hesitant for them to happen, but Eric was in a tough situation. I can't imagine someone telling me my best friend assaulted them. He handled it shittily (?), but he can make amends.
Leighton: Alright, fuck Alicia for giving Leight an ultimatum. People coming out is a big deal, it doesn't matter how welcoming the community around you is. Leighton has grown so much this season, and I look forward to seeing her progress come next season.
Whitney: I'm so glad that her teammates weren't angry with her, it was my one fear. I'm glad they didn't when the tournament game, as that would've been too cliche. Her and Canaan though👀
Kimberly: My girl fucked up, but she's getting another opportunity! With no scholarship. I- Kimberly busts her ass and im infuriated on her behalf. Working full time and being a full-time student is hard. Now this added stress? I hope we get a solution. Also, she's a great person, who was falling for another guy who broke her heart. And we have no idea how's she's handling it.
Nico- He likes Kimberly, that much is evident. But we never see an apology or talk about his actions. Obviously, the storyline is far from over.
My favorite: I genuinely can't pick one.
Best ship: corefour for sure

Life & Style, April 26
You can buy a copy of this issue for your very own at my eBay store: https://www.ebay.com/str/bradentonbooks
Cover: Khloe Kardashian is a total fake
Tumblr media
Page 1: Lady Gaga in a wedding dress on the set of House of Gucci in Rome
Page 2: Contents
Tumblr media
Page 4: The Top 10 SAG Awards Looks -- Mindy Kaling, Jamie Chung, Amy Adams, Sarah Levy, Kerry Washington
Page 5: Kaley Cuoco, Nicole Kidman, Natalie Morales, Viola Davis, Lily Collins
Page 6: Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen celebrated their 12-year anniversary, posting heartfelt tributes to each other on social media, but their relationship hasn't always been so rock solid -- Tom admitted that Gisele has made a lot of sacrifices for their marriage and she hated living in Boston because she had no friends there and felt so alone because Tom was never around; things got so bad they sought counseling, which was the wake-up call that Tom needed -- he promised to make changes and he agreed to quit the Patriots and sign with a team in a location that was more desirable to Gisele and Tom stuck to his word and he came the new quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and since moving to Florida, Tom and Gisele have never been happier and they have date nights every week and always make sure to communicate -- it wasn't easy, but they're both really proud of how far they've come
Page 7: After multiple delays, David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry and Matt LeBlanc have finally filmed the highly anticipated Friends reunion special and they all got really emotional when they saw the set and being there brought back so many fond memories -- it's the first time in 17 years that fans will get to see the entire cast together since the show went off the air in 2004 -- afterwards, everyone went to Jen's house for dinner -- each of the stars was paid $2.5 million to appear in the special
* Throwback -- Dolly Parton in 1965
* Biggest Spenders of the Week -- Bobby Flay, Aaron Rodgers, Vanessa Hudgens, Angelina Jolie
Page 8: Drew Barrymore revealed that, after three divorces and a string of failed romances, she's sworn off marriage altogether -- Drew doesn't need a man to feel complete and she's happiest hanging out with family and friends -- if the right guy comes along later down the line, great, but for now, she's content with being single
* Becoming one of the most sought-after stars in Hollywood has gone straight to Ana de Armas' head -- the cast and crew are often left waiting for the actress to emerge from her trailer on the set of the new action thriller The Gray Man -- Ana's got a lot going on and she's juggling several different projects, as well as photo shoots and phone calls with her team and people don't stay mad at her for too long, but they have nicknamed her Ana de Diva, but she isn't upset by the scathing moniker because she's a big name now, and with that comes a lot of responsibility and the way she sees it, there are worse things than being called a diva
Page 10: The Week in Photos -- Orlando Bloom got a surprise visit from the Easter Bunny
Page 11: Jennifer Lopez in jeans at a photoshoot for InStyle, Priyanka Chopra dancing around her backyard in a bright yellow dress
Page 12: Animal Tales -- Gilles Marini posed for a pic with his African grey parrot Anya, singer Madison Beer leaned in for a kiss from a caramel-colored stallion, Kate Beckinsale's feline Clive seemed less than thrilled when Kate strapped him to her chest in a carrier
Page 13: Kaia Gerber and her precious pooch Milo snuggled up in bed, Malin Akerman and a goat
Page 16: Stars Behaving Badly -- Lisa Vanderpump let her parched dog drink from her water glass at a restaurant in West Hollywood, Maisie Williams went topless under a translucent jacket while shooting a new TV series about the Sex Pistols in London, HGTV Design Star host Allison Holker used a megaphone to give out instructions to Property Brother Jonathan Scott on the show's finale, Calvin Klein wasn't worried about stains when he shoved a pile of spaghetti into his mouth at West Hollywood's Mauro Cafe
Page 18: Say What?! Helena Bonham Carter who turns 55 in May, Chelsea Handler who admits she consumes mushrooms almost every day, Olivia Munn who is the proud pet parent of rescue dogs Frankie and Chance, Melissa McCarthy on doing her own stunts in Thunder Force, Brian Tyree Henry on Godzilla vs. Kong co-star Millie Bobby Brown
Page 20: Pete Davidson has officially moved out of his mother's home and into a $1.2 million luxury high-rise condo on Staten Island, and it's all thanks to his new girl girlfriend, Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor -- the Saturday Night Live star showed off his two-bedroom, two-and-a-half bathroom bachelor pad during a Zoom call -- Phoebe is a down-to-earth girl, but she doesn't want to date a man who lives in his mom's basement and she thinks Pete's mom, Amy, is awesome and says it's a great thing that they're super close, but being in a long-distance relationship is difficult enough so Pete and Phoebe need some alone time when they're together, which was almost impossible with his mother hanging out upstairs -- Pete knew it was time; he just needed that gentle nudge
Page 21: Matt James and Rachael Kirkconnell were spotted in NYC together, sparking speculation that the former Bachelor couple have rekindled their relationship -- the pair parted ways while the show was still airing after photos of the graphic designer at a plantation-themed college party in 2018 surfaced on social media -- Rachael made a mistake but she owned up to it and was willing to learn from it and it didn't change her feelings for Matt or vice versa and Matt was in love with Rachael too and he couldn't just turn those feelings off so no one would be surprised if they decided to reconcile
* Michael B. Jordan's girlfriend Lori Harvey was left reeling over photos of the actor sharing a smooch with Chante Adams on the set of their new movie A Journal for Jordan -- of course, they were just shooting a scene for the film, but Lori was still annoyed and she asked Michael about it, and he brushed it off and explained it was part of the job but Lori still has her suspicions and she's been thinking about dropping by the set just so she can keep a very close eye on them
Page 22: Cover Story -- Khloe Kardashian living a lie -- devastated by an unretouched photo leak, Khloe faces claims she's a body positivity hypocrite as she demands the viral image be taken down
Page 26: Alex Rodriguez to Ben Affleck: Back off my fiancee -- Ben gushes about ex Jennifer Lopez in a new article and A-Rod isn't happy about it (not quite Bennifer yet :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Page 28: Prince Harry overwhelmed with work -- Harry struggles to adjust after trading his cushy royal role for a variety of normal gigs -- though his job for BetterUp is primarily remote, added stress comes in the form of Harry's Spotify and Netflix deals, plus growing charity work -- Harry finds all of his new, non-royal titles fresh and exciting, but while he's a great person, some in his inner circle say Harry's kind of dumb and worry whether he can handle the pressure
Page 30: Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli life after prison -- reunited following months spent behind bars, Lori and Mossimo try to pick up the pieces -- prison definitely took a toll on Mossimo and he doesn't expect sympathy, but he's still struggling to adjust to what he went through; it really broke him down and forced him to reevaluate his life

Whatcha Doin’?
I was tagged by @pynkhues! Thanks ❤
Last Song: Ghosts on the stereo by Carrie Underwood
Last Movie: Como agua para chocolate (like water for chocolate) saw it first in an adv spanish course, but it became one of my favorites. I recommend if it's your genre.
It's about a girl named Tita and and her family's tradition that the youngest daughter can't get married because she has to take care of the parents until they die, but she falls in love and it gets angsty lol. (Also, nudity)
Currently watching: schitts creek. I finished s6 (I managed to take my time to make it last longer) and now I'm back on 1.01
Currently reading: my vampire fic that I'm trying to finish before Halloween but keep changing direction on (haha) but books! I picked up Mindy Kaling's 'is everyone hanging out without me?' & I like it so far!
Currently craving: Red velvet cheesecake cupcakes.
Tagging: (hope you haven't been tagged yet) @hereliesbethboland @xenalovesoq @gild-and-fire @pepperanne1

rules: it’s time to love yourselves! choose your 5 favourite works you created in the past year (fics, art, edits, etc) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you’ve brought into the world. tag as many writers/artists/etc as you want (fan or original) so we can spread the love and link each other to awesome works!
I was tagged by @andrea-lyn and @saadiestuff-- thank you both! This was hard-- I had 19 fics to choose from, but I feel all my real favorite stuff is older than a year.
---
1. Shades of Blue - RNM | Michael & Isobel, Malex - My first fic for RNM fandom, and first fic I’d written in awhile at the time, period, so this was simultaneously shaking off the cobwebs and tentatively learning to write new characters. I like how it turned out, though, and I really really like writing in Isobel’s voice. And then this was beautifully remixed by @el-gilliath for the Remix exchange, which made it even better!
2. Variations on a Theme - RNM | Malex - Most of what I write fits pretty neatly in the “fluff” category, and this was one of the first things I’d written in a long time that was actually vaguely angsty. So naturally I had to add a fluffy second part to it. But yeah, I just liked the writing here, and the wistful bittersweet vibe of part one.
3. Under Observation - RNM | Kyle & Michael & Alex, Malex - This one was fun. I had the idea at work one day and jotted it down, then the writing of it came really easily a month or two later. And as it turns out, I really love writing Kyle Valenti, too. I also love writing shenanigans. Sue me. This is a very Amy-style fic.
4. Tin Cans and String - Late Night (2019 Movie) | Molly/Tom - Obviously an outlier, but I enjoyed this movie and absolutely love writing in Mindy Kaling’s voice (which I’ve done twice before-- once for The Mindy Project and once for that one chapter in Why Not Me where Mindy envisions her life if she’d become a high school teacher), so when I saw it on the list for the Yuletide exchange, I had to write a treat. The romance in the movie is really underdeveloped (possibly intentionally-- it’s far from the point), so this was a fun chance to flesh it out, and this is 100% a fic I’d want to read, even if it’s one that has understandably stayed under the radar. Also very much an Amy fic.
5. Secrets & Pies - 911 Lone Star | Tarlos - I’m really loving writing for Tarlos; I find their voices both come to me much easier than either Michael or Alex’s do. And this one is probably the piece for them I’ve written that has the most emotional weight (though it’s still me, so it’s still pretty light lol). And I just really want to get to know Carlos better, so. Here we are!
---
I know this one has been traveling around for a long time now, and I’m pretty late, so not sure who to tag. If you want to do it and say I tagged you please do, and tag me so I can read your faves!

Warning: Spoilers for S4E09 and S4E10 of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
Hi, lovelies, and welcome back to Bianca Spills the Tea (now in italics!). Today I’ll be talking about the above episodes of CXG (TBH this is basically me live-tweeting these episodes because I’m watching them for the first time)
S4E09
- The boom dude in the theme song omg d y i n g
- I actually really like Skylar Astin’s portrayal of Greg! I was definitely on the fence about the casting decision when I first heard it bc I LOVED Santino Fontana, but Skylar has won me over
- SAUCEMERGENCY/TASTROPHE/POCALYPSE I’M DEAD
- ^^^  If you haven’t figured out by now, I love callbacks
- Nathaniel is trying to be nice and I’m PROUD OF HIM (and he can still get it)
- I love Rebecca’s lil braid during the date scene! It’s so cute!
- FRED ARMISEN YOU’RE DOING GREAT SWEETIE
- I’m just waiting for the small Nathaniel/Greg friendship to crash and burn and I fear that moment (White Josh is me and I am White Josh)
- WE SHOULD DEFINITELY NOT HAVE SEX RIGHT NOW WE SHOULD DEFINITELY NOT HAVE SEX RIGHT NOW
- Todrick Hall is KILLING IT YESSS
- Look, this whole Darryl vs. Bert thing, while understandable, is cringy. Both of you be adults and have a goddamn conversation (which I’m sure will happen at the end of the episode but I need it now)
- In the same vein, thank god for Paula’s Mom Yelling Voice
- Maya’s “confession” is ME AF AND HER BREAKING THE FOURTH WALL ABOUT RACHEL BLOOM AT THE TONY’S IS EVERYTHINGGGGG
- I love you, Elated Cat. I’m proud of you.
- When they both showed up at Rebecca’s house, I heard John Mulaney say “The other shoe just dropped.”
- HEY SEXY STRANGER I’LL BE RIGHT BACK I JUST FORGOT TO DO THE DISHES
- You know I didn’t know Megan Amram could sing but she’s good! Also any TGP writer has a special place in my heart
- JACK DOLGEN AS THE DOG LMAO
- You know, this show’s done a lot of weird things (the Textmergency song, the Santa Ana Winds, etc), but the cats take the cake. I just... don’t even know what to say about it other than that I love it a lot but it’s insane
S4E10
- Hebecca is such a cutie awww I love her!!
- But I hate her name. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Darryl, you should have taken them up on that 24 hour grace period to change her name.
- BABE AND MAMA COOKIE I’M CRYING REBECCA AND PAULA FRIENDSHIP I LOVE IT DSJDFHSJKALSJFKLSAS
- Even when she’s crying Hebby is adorable I love her and I would die for her
- And good for you, Greg. Talking about your feelings is v important so I’m glad you’re doing it
- Have I mentioned that I love when this show breaks the fourth wall? Because I love when this show breaks the fourth wall
-^^^ in this case it’s Heather saying “I’ve never seen your living room before.”
- Also people calling their partners by their last name makes me w e a k (idk why but I just love it) so Nathaniel asking when “Bunch” was going to be here was everything
- Y’all I’m screaming Valencia said “If you ruin this, I’ll kill you and throw your corpse into a river.”
- I really don’t know how I feel about Rebecca and Greg getting back together (I’m sure she’ll have moments like this with Nathaniel and Josh, too, but... I have mixed feelings about all of it)
- I do know that she and Josh aren’t endgame, though. We’ve come too far for that
- I forgot for a while that I’m obsessed with Scott Michael Foster’s voice but... I’m obsessed with Scott Michael Foster’s voice (side note-- I just found out that his girlfriend is Penny Pann on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and idk I just thought that was cool)
- Throughout this entire series Rachel Bloom has gotten to make out with like five or six really hot guys and honestly? That’s the acting dream (I’m kidding I promise)
- HECTOR STANNING MINDY KALING IS ME (MINDY IF YOU’RE READING THIS ILY QUEEN)
- I knew as soon as Hector went into the kitchen by himself that there would be some sort of something with Valencia, but for just a tiny moment I thought (irrationally, of course) that Valencia would be hiding in the fridge when he opened it. I don’t even know where that came from
- Sweet, lovestruck Greg is my favorite Greg
- Everyone helping Josh to get that Fett Regoso pic... I live for friends supporting friends
- HERE for Rebecca accepting Hebby
- Oh, sweet Nathaniel. Don’t worry. Your two or three episodes will come.
- Overall, I loved these two episodes! They were sweet and hilarious and reminded me just how much Rebecca is growing. God, I’m so proud of her. I’m proud of all of them! So anyway, thank you so much for reading this. I know it was kind of long but I’m glad that there are some of you who enjoy my thoughts on various shows. Hope you all have a wonderful day! Bye!

thanksgiving 2021 —
the household got sick on November 22 & had to call all of our holiday plans. cancelled flights, chatted with family + friends to let them know, and accepted our quarantine fate. the mood was pretty somber the first couple of days. everyone of us felt differently, rapidly declined and then for the most part fine the next day. we laid around and worked from home before the break — watched a lot of movies and sports and rooted for every leg of every parlay. stuart finished a puzzle, we had groceries delivered to the car (ben and Jerry’s), and we cuddled the animals. Thursday was actually one of my favorite days. I woke up in a great mood somehow. I started on the chili when I went downstairs and then started a cute mindy kaling show that came out recently on HBOMax. Something about college girls. First we experienced two games that ended in defeat — by no surprise the Detroit lions and then sadly the rapids. We were hoping they would win so we could attend the next game here in colorado… maybe next year. Second, the cowboys. The most toxic relationship I have ever been apart of… nothing tops it. Regardless I had stuart join me in getting ready in our full cowboys fit to take our annual thanksgiving photo out in front of the house. We feasted on my chili which was delightful. We watched more tv and later in the evening (my favorite part) played yahtzee, drank wine, and watched the dog show. One of my runner up moments of the day was crawling into bed. We cuddled up and had a sweet time before falling asleep… I felt very in love. Today (Friday the day after thanksgiving) we made a thanksgiving feast because our honey baked ham was not ready to be picked up until earlier this evening. His mom ordered it, she is a precious angel. I made four different sides from scratch and (fingers crossed) I am now a few steps closer to a ring on my damn finger! Hehe. We set the table, put on a record and the five of us gathered around the table to devour. Despite the unfortunate and unforeseen events of this week, I am feeling so grateful. I am undeniably happy in my relationship and I love that I can look back on the past year and a half even with all of the sad times we had, yet truly think to myself what a cute little life. What a time. What a guy. What a team. I complain about small things but all of these things make my life worth it. My people, near and far. I’m thankful for my mom being here with me still to answer the phone and send me recipes. I’m thankful for my grandma who does the same. I’m thankful for Texas friends who check me, check in on me, and wish the best for me and my happiness. I’m thankful for such an amazing partner, who puts me first and wants to be each other’s peace. He teaches me patience, gentleness, eloquence, and makes things so comfortable and fun. I am happy to be here & think that tomorrow morning I’ll go play bingo.

About Me Meme
I was tagged by @roses-and-radiation (Thank you!! I never get chosen for these types of things.)
ONE ( ALIAS ): I don’t have an alias or nickname, but my real name is Natalie.
TWO ( BIRTHDAY ): May 18
THREE ( ZODIAC SIGN ): Taurus
FOUR ( HEIGHT ): 4′11″
FIVE ( HOBBIES ): I like to play video games, which should be obvious. I used to love to read, but now I don’t really have the focus for it (meds make it hard for me to focus on doing tasks that take a lot of concentration) and full-time school AND work make it difficult to do much more than I do so... video games!
SIX ( FAVORITE COLOR(S) ): I like all colors except orange. Eff orange.
SEVEN ( FAVORITE BOOKS ): I’ve always loved Lamb by Christopher Moore, The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood, and Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen. As far as genres, I like funny-ish memoir/essays (David Sedaris, Mindy Kaling, Amy Poehler, Anthony Bourdain, etc.), Sophie Kinsella romance books (EXCEPT the Shopaholic series, which I hate. Don’t @ me.), and true crime books (particularly around organized crime... if you read only one in your life, let it be Tough Jews, which is amazeballs and is so much better than the genre.).
EIGHT ( LAST SONG LISTENED TO ): It was either Ramin Djawadi’s “Heart-Shaped Box (Piano)” or Florence + the Machine’s “Big God”
NINE ( LAST FILM WATCHED ): That Lucy Liu Netflix movie - the one where she gets set up by her assistant.
TEN ( INSPIRATION FOR MUSE ): Face claim is here. But mostly inspiration just comes from music (so much music).
ELEVEN ( DREAM JOB ): Lottery winner. (Not necessarily a job, but it’s a nice alternative to working away more than 2/3rds of my life, right?)
TWELVE ( MEANING BEHIND YOUR URL ): I just wanted a FC related blog name. Originally I tried a couple of others related to Grace and Faith, but no dice, so MaryMay-Fairgrave it is.

‘Inside Out’ Movie Review
Tumblr media
*NOTE: The following review contains major spoilers, highlighted in bold letters for readers convenience. If you haven’t seen the film yet, skip past the bold letter segments and come back to read them once you HAVE seen the film for my full thoughts.*
Now I know what you’re thinking. Why in the hell am I putting up a review for a film that’s close to three years old now? Well, here’s a little context. Those of you internet surfers may have seen this little meme float around the web recently:
Tumblr media
Everybody has their own opinions on this and there’s good reason why it’s trending. It’s a legitimately fun discussion to hear about everyone’s favorite movies from the “happiest” company on earth. For anybody curious on what I think, HERE’S the version of the meme I created:
Tumblr media
*the distinct lack of any and all Emperor’s New Groove and/or Hunchback of Notre Dame is a crime against cinema*
You’ll notice how Finding Nemo beat Inside Out in the first round, and next to the bracket for Inside Out  I wrote “never saw it: may change later”. Well, after family and friends highly recommended I sit down and see it, I’m here to tell you that now that I’ve seen Inside Out . My opinion . . . has not changed. Finding Nemo beats it. Easily in fact. Let me explain why, starting with Story.
Story:
Tumblr media
Synopsis: Inside the minds of every human being resides five emotions: Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger and Disgust. These emotions have a duty to protect their human from danger and guide them through life. We follow the inner workings of a little girl named Riley’s psyche in which Joy has taken the leadership role to make sure every day of Riley’s life is a good one. She maintains Riley’s optimism and makes sure nothing gets in the way of her happy life by keeping Sadness on a leash. Things change though when a challenging time in Riley’s life occurs; she and her family move to San Francisco. Joy struggles to keep Riley’s optimism up and inevitably she and sadness get removed from headquarters, leaving the rest of the gang to try and do Joy’s job while she’s away (and failing at it). Can Joy and Sadness get back to headquarters in time to save Riley and make sure she can be happy again?
This movie is infinitely praised for being one of Pixar’s most creative and original films, and to be fair it’s not hard to see why. It’s a very outside the box idea that’s rarely been explored before and this movie explores it in a way only Pixar can come up with. It also has a lot of fun with demonstrating real life psychological concepts in a way that feels very fresh.
It also has a moral lesson that’s both original for a kids film and absolutely necessary for children to learn. Accepting that sadness and other negative emotions are not only a part of life but an ESSENTIAL part of life is a pill most people, even adults, have trouble swallowing. Of COURSE everyone wants to feel happy all the time, but it’s unhealthy to bottle up feelings that are a necessity to dealing with life’s special challenges.
Also . . . the climax of this film IS very emotional. Not Coco levels of emotional, but still sad in a way that got me to tear up a bit.
That said, it isn’t ALWAYS effective in how it expresses it’s ideas. While the visuals of this film are excellent (which we’ll get into in a bit) this film often runs into a bit too much of a ‘tell, don’t show’ attitude. A lot of concepts introduced in this film are verbally explained by one of the characters when they could have just as easily been presented clearly enough with visual context clues. I get that it’s a kids movie and kids may not be as skilled in picking up nuances, and to be fair this movie DOES explore a lot of concepts a child may not be immediately keen on, but film is meant to be a visual medium in which ideas and concepts are made understandable by what the audience sees rather than what they’re being told verbally. It especially makes it a problem for how characters are portrayed because one in particular feels like she exists solely as an exposition dump for three quarters of the run time. We should probably talk about characters for a second.
Characters:
Tumblr media
So not gonna lie, this is by far the weakest area of the movie. How can I be such a heartless monster to say such a thing? Well, the best way to explain it is to compare it to Finding Nemo, the whole reason I even saw the movie to begin with. Coincidentally enough, these two movies actually have a lot in common. They’re both “buddy road trip” movies where two characters go on a big scope adventure, come across wacky colourful characters on their path and ultimately learn a lesson not often addressed in kids films. The difference is, Finding Nemo does more to establish character motivation AND it takes more time to establish multiple character arcs, ironically within the same runtime as Inside Out more or less. Marlin’s motivation for being a strict and neurotic parent is immediately shown, NOT told, in the opening. Same thing with Nemo’s tendency to rebel. Both characters are given arcs in which they each learn a unique lesson. Marlin learns to take more risks to accomplish goals and Nemo learns to be self reliant when separated from his dad. Plus along the way they come across TONS of memorable side characters. Dory, The Sharks, the school of fish, the seagulls, the pet fish in the fish tank. It does more to establish an infinitely more appealing cast of characters.
Inside Out is focused on Joy . .  .TOO focused on Joy. She’s the only character with a truly fleshed out story arc. She’s the first character we see in the film and we’re verbally told through her perspective on why things are the way they are. She’s the only one of the five emotions who really learns anything and really changes.
The only other character in the story with an arc is Bing Bong the imaginary friend, who appears pretty late in the film and effectively dies soon too. His arc is wrapped up pretty hastily.
Every other character in this film is a means to an end. Fear, Disgust and Anger all exist to get a major story beat going. That’s it. Their banter between each other is likable at first but is pretty wash rinse repeat. Her parents only get one entertaining scene in the film that express any kind of personality and then the rest of the time they serve the same functions as each other (seeing if Riley is okay but ultimately not doing anything about it). Sadness is the biggest offender of not serving much beyond being a means to an end because despite having the most screentime after Joy she mainly serves as exposition dumping. Every time Joy isn’t sure about how the brain works (if she doesn’t know where things are or what they are why is she in charge?) Sadness just verbally explains it to the audience. “Oh, that’s long term memory. Oh, that’s abstract thought. Here’s what we should do about it.” She also propels the plot forward in a pretty lackluster way. The reason conflict even happens is because Sadness is compelled to taint memories (for reasons they never really explain). Riley isn’t even a character, really. She’s just an outward demonstration of the ramifications of the real conflict.
And I’m just gonna come out and say it . . . .Joy is too difficult to like for a good chunk of this movie. The movie shows her as very controlling and bossy and selfish. It immediately made me sour towards her. I know, I know, the idea is that everyone wants to feel Happy more than anything else and she DOES learn the error of her ways in the end, but they could have done a little more to make her actions sympathetic than just immediately show her hog the controls once Sadness shows up. It’s weird that Joy rubs me the wrong way more than Disgust does, a character specifically designed to be bitchy. To compare to Finding Nemo again, we understand that Marlin’s actions aren’t right in the beginning, but we know WHY he does it. It’s not for any malicious intent either. He only wants to protect his son because he learned the hard way how fragile life is and he feels like he failed to protect his family before. Joy just gets needy as soon as another character shows up and seemingly for no other reason than she just wants to have the final word in what happens. Maybe they could have made her more sympathetic by showing Riley get into a hard to cope with situation like her dad being really mad and yelling at her for something she did and Joy feeling like she owes it to Riley to make sure she never feels that bad again. That way it’s at least for somebody else’s sake besides her own. This is admittedly a hard problem to articulate because you could argue everything the emotions do, they do for Riley’s sake, but while all the other emotions clearly act with Riley’s best interests in mind Joy is shown to do what she does more out of competitiveness than duty.
Acting:
Tumblr media
Every cast member of this flick does a great job. Amy Poehler makes a strong performance as Joy, really communicating the oozing enthusiasm and the struggle to maintain a positive attitude. Bill Hader does a great job as Fear and has some of the more effective deadpan line delivery in the film. Lewis Black makes an effectively funny Anger who makes great comedic foil for pretty well every other character he interacts with. Mindy Kaling arguably does the best job as Disgust. I say that because making a character designed to be unlikable like this (the typical girl bully “shallow bitch” archetype) endearing and not annoying has to be no easy task. Phyllis Smith does an okay job as Sadness. She’s especially funny when she has to say something sarcastic. Richard Kind plays Bing Bong and does a great job as sort of a washed up but charming imaginary friend. The rest of the cast is passable but not remarkable.
Visuals (Animation & Design):
Tumblr media
As anyone would expect from Pixar, Inside Out is yet another visual marvel. This movies greatest strength is it’s use of colour. More specifically, colour contrast. The shear opposition between the bright saturated colors of the mind and it’s deep, unsaturated grays and blacks of the sadder scenes is excellent. There are some shots in this film that are poster material simply because the contrast adds SO MUCH to the overall composition of the frame. It makes your eye all the more drawn to the colours that really pop when they’re set against gloomy atmospheres.
One shot in particular that stands out is an extreme wide shot of Joy crying in the abyss, with her glow piercing the darkness and another memory fading away in peripheral vision.
The animation is great too. I like how while the human characters move rigidly and in accordance to real world physics, the emotions go to a cartoony extent with their dynamic poses, snappy energy and great use of line of action. The designs really showcase the best of their over the top acting, ESPECIALLY fear. the lanky, noodly armed guy has some of the most effective slapstick because of how fast and how far he stretches his limbs. In fact, all the designs of the emotions are great. As is always a necessity in character design 101, you can put them in silhouette and still be able to tell which is which.
Of course, a standout moment in the film when it comes to animation is the “abstract thought” scene. Borrowing a page from the book of Picasso, the designs in this scene are wonderfully out there and I love how it addresses such a meta idea for a kids movie. This is the one moment of the film where i think verbal explanation from Sadness is necessary.
The textures on the emotions are a nice touch too. I wouldn’t have guessed that the fuzzy, almost plush like look would have been an effective choice on characters meant to represent concepts as metaphysical as the emotional spectrum, but it’s genuinely a sight for sore eyes. I’ll admit SOME of the textures of specific location pieces seem a bit . . .dated and unpolished, but to be perfectly honest I saw this after I saw Coco so chances are the unbelievable textures of that are just spoiling me. I won’t hold it against the overall score.
Sound design (Music & Sound Foley)
As I’ve said in past reviews, this is a hard area to talk about, mainly because the film handles the sound design about as well as any other big budget film. I don’t remember anything music wise aside from one scene where I swear to God they just took the melody of Plug-In Baby by Muse.
There’s also the scene of the movie where they’re trying to break Bing Bong out of a balloon cage while not waking up a nightmare clown. The balloon sound effects are REEEEEALLY loud; easily the most blasted up sound foley out of everything in this movie. I guess it’s effective as the point of the scene is they’re trying not to wake the clown guy up but even so I think they could have made that point without making the loudness of it outweigh any other sound THAT much.
Conclusion:
Overall, this is a serviceable Pixar film. Where does it rank as far as Pixar films go? Well, probably lower within the Top 10 if I’m honest (The best Pixar films are The Incredibles, Coco, Wall-E, Ratatouille, Toy Story, Finding Nemo and Up, not necessarily in that order). It’s DEFINITELY not better than Finding Nemo. Finding Nemo does a lot of what Inside Out accomplishes except better with a more memorable cast, more relatable main characters, more fleshed out character arcs and less on-the-nose portrayal of it’s ideas. Inside Out has greatly effective animation & design as well as a healthy set of clever ideas, but I’d say it’s weak amount of character is what drags it down. It’s definitely worth checking out at least once, but it’s effect isn’t enough to shake the decisions of my Disney bracket. You now have permission to rant to me about how wrong I am.
Score:
Story - 1/2 - Average
Characters: - .5/2 - Below Average
Acting: 1.5/2 - Above Average
Visuals: 2/2 - Excellent
Sound Design: 1/2 - Average
6 out of 10. An okay movie, but ultimately disappointing.

We sat down with Rachel Berry, lead singer of Divine Influence, touring in a city near you! Does this young starlet turned soon to be Broadway star continue to enthuse us? The answer is a resounding yes.
Tumblr media
My full name: Rachel Barbra Berry! Named after THE Rachel Green from friends. I’d like to think the ‘Barbra’ came from the talented, wonderful, heavenly Barbra Streisand, but unfortunately, it’s just a name they saw fit. I can pretend!
My nickname: Rach is apparently a lot easier than Rachel! For my band mates, at least. My dads call me a lot of names, though! Rachie is the least embarrassing, so I’ll give you that one.
I have a real weakness for… Jacuzzi tubs! Pair that with Lush’s intergalatic bath bomb, and I’m good to go. Also pickles.
Tumblr media
Pet peeve: When people don’t give other people a chance or judge them before they get to know them. If we were all just a little nicer, the world would be a much better place!
Fave insta and/or twitter account: @lesmisofficial on twitter did a really cool write up of me before I start the show! And they have their performers give advice to aspiring performers, which I think is so awesome. The cat’s definitely out of the bag already, but I’m so excited to be on Broadway I could probably scream it from a mountain top.
My current #MCM: Can I have 2? It wouldn’t be fair at all to leave one of my dads out! They’re such amazing guys who would give the shirt off their backs even if it’s all they had to their name. They’ve supported me through so much and I can’t thank them enough.
My current #WCW: My cat, Miss Elphaba, AKA Elphie, AKA the cutest little thing in the world. But you probably want me to say a human so It’s obviously Mindy Kaling because I want to be her best friend.
I can’t resist someone who… Compliments me!
The sexiest thing that’s ever been done for me: You know, I’m not really the most experienced, which is probably not something you guys wanna hear, but no one’s wowed me yet. Can we please change that, though? I could always use some song inspiration!
I think everyone in their 20s should: Have a good support system of friends or family. Without my dads and Kitty, I don’t think I ever would’ve gotten this far.
Tumblr media
Something people get wrong about me: I’m not confident 100 percent of the time. I don’t think anyone is!
My go-to snack: Dark chocolate with almonds. Any brand will do!
The last show I watched: Mindy Kaling’s The Mindy Project. No other show has made me laugh so hard that I cry, and Dr. Lahiri is the epitome of relatable!
Place I’m most excited to visit: Being in New York is always a highlight of any trip, but I’m so excited to get out of the country eventually! I’ve never left America, so It’ll be so much fun to explore new places.
My guilty pleasure is… I take way too many selfies that just hoard up space on my phone because they’re too good to delete.
My favorite emoji is… 🌟
My favorite song to perform is…because… Stranger, for sure! Ballads are always so good to sing, and even though it’s a little depressing, I’m so proud of what I wrote and I really don’t get to be on the keys very often. From Afar will always have a special place in my heart, though! We all wrote it together and it really put things into place for us!
