So I finished good omens season 2 last night at like 4am and idk if its cause of tiredness or cause I acc dodged every spoiler like an expert acrobats but...the final scene. I didnt see it coming. Not from a mile away.

Look I don't care that we got Nina and Maggie who are basically a mirror of Azi and Crowley. (Also so much to say how Ninas abusive relationship is basically Azi with heaven but anyway)

I also don't care that Azi and Crowley have basically been married since Eden. Nothing...and I mean nothing, physically prepared me for that finale.

Years of queerbaiting have desensitised me to hope of any kind. Genuinely even when all the signs were pointing to a confession, as soon as Azi went first and started talking bout heaven I thought that was it. Crowely is gonna crawl back into his shell.

BUT NO HE HE DIDNT. HE STILL SAID IT. and god can I say how incredibly brave that is. Like I'm so proud of him for saying ANYTHING. Like I get us as an audience think it's obvious and woulda been frustrated if he didn't and we are frustrated with how it went but. Honestly with the set up the boy was given I don't think HE for one second even remotely thought this confession was gonna go well. He had like the tiniest smidge of hope that was...of course crushed and burned. But. God I'm proud of him for saying something. And then standing his ground and not going with the man he loves even though it hurts cause going back to heaven would hurt more.

Anyway needless to say my jaw was ON THE GROUND for the kiss. Absolutely unhinged. My jaw hurt but I was so flabbergasted. I didnt know what to do with myself. It came outta nowhere in my mind even tho in traditional media it had obviously been building up to that I was still so...wow. This show. 2023. I love you.

Given this after the gift that was our flag means death. I dont know if I'll ever emotionally recover. Also I'm so not used to this idk what to do now. Do I go read fanfic? I mean..yes always but. Its canon. I almost wanna save myself for canon even though season 3 isn't confirmed. Idk if I have enough patience for that tho.

Something that has been on my mind lately is how Aziraphale, in the bandstand, asked for Crowley to be forgiven (by God) for his lack of faith.

To which Crowley responded, "I won't be forgiven. Not ever. It's part of a demon's job description. Unforgivable, that's what I am."

And Aziraphale argues that he'd been an angel, but eventually, he realizes it was indeed a long time ago, and it kills him. Aziraphale knows it isn't fair that Crowley is unforgivable, and he disagrees with the "job description." He doesn't want to admit it, but many things happen at the bandstand, and one of them is him realizing just how much faith he has in Crowley. So much, that he finds himself disagreeing with God on something fundamental (for demons).

His faith in Crowley is bigger than his faith in God at this moment, and that scares him.

He's already having a crisis of faith.

This isn't to say it's his first one, don't be mistaken, but this specific moment of crisis is important. Aziraphale panics and completely calls off Their Side, because he needs to put all his faith in God for the time being. He cannot afford to question where to put his faith - in Crowley or in God.

(Like I said, many things happened in the bandstand. That was not the only reason Aziraphale called it off. But I believe it played its part.)

His next move is, after all, to talk to God because he has faith in Her and believes everything will be resolved if he just talks to Her.

Before he does that, though, when Crowley shows his lack of faith again (same thing as before), Aziraphale is the one forgiving him this time.

His stance on forgiveness changed since the bandstand - now he's taking it upon himself to forgive Crowley, who had previously said he's unforgivable. And before he says it, he looks at him as if he's remembering what Crowley said about being unforgivable. He's essentially saying, "God may not forgive you, God may say you're unforgivable, but I don't think you are, I forgive you."

It's ironic how that happens right before he's about to put all his faith in God, desperate to be proven right, just to be met with the Metatron's floating head, whose words are making him question his faith even further.

I had this sitting in a Google Doc from ages ago, and it seemed like now was a good time to pull it out. Let’s take a second to talk about the Ball, specifically the actual dancing part.

So you have the two lines of people facing one another. For this style of dance, the line would have traditionally been one line of men and one of women, but it’s scrambled in the show because gender is made up and the points don’t matter. The person across from you would be your partner for the dance. You come in and greet your partner in the center of the aisle and then go back to your respective lines. If it actually matters to anyone, I would say that Maggie’s line is intended to be the ‘male/lead’ side because she bows to Nina. 

This bit really only matters to me because later on you’ll see Aziraphale on the same side as Maggie. Both of them are the ones who are actively pursuing their partner. Maggie asked Nina to dance, and Aziraphale asked Crowley.

Once you’ve greeted your partner, then the rest of the dance commences. I’ve danced a few reels and contra style dances myself, but I’m not an expert on if there is a difference between them and what you’d find at a cotillion ball. I’m just going off what I do know. The most important thing that needs to be taken away from this dance is that everyone is doing the exact same steps. They even make a point of having Nina ask Maggie when she learned the steps to this dance because everyone is in sync despite no one dancing like this anymore. 

Now, the steps of this type of dance would usually be given to you by a caller. There’s generally someone directing at what point you’re intended to move. In my experience, it was a person, but the musical phrases can also do a lot of the heavy lifting to let people know when they’re meant to move, like in this scene. (Although, if you watch the X-ray, the actors apparently all had earpieces.) 

So why is all of this important? Because it still serves as a metaphor for Aziraphale and Crowley’s relationship. They’re continuing to follow the same steps that they always have. They fill their appropriate roles, and they still have to answer when their Head Offices call. More importantly, this type of dance doesn’t require any communication with your partner to complete it. It’s not like a waltz or any other two person style dance where someone is following the other person’s lead. You can operate as two separate parts as long as you still listen to the music or the instructions you’re given.

However, Aziraphale and Crowley don’t actually complete the dance. They don’t do that turn that everyone else does. They stop in the middle of the aisle to see the chaos outside. It serves as extra reinforcement that while they are trying to do the steps, they’re not quite succeeding like the other couples who are dancing (Mrs. Cheng and her husband, and Maggie and Nina).

What season 2 finale? Good Omens has never been adapted into a TV show. I love the book tho!

Hi I can't stop thinking about how the offer for Crowley to go with Aziraphale to Heaven must have seemed so perfect to Aziraphale (despite being such an obvious manipulation) BECAUSE

Aziraphale wants to take this job because he believes in Good. And he has finally, FINALLY, learned that Heaven is simply lawful, but that's not quite the same thing. His vision is to make Heaven what Aziraphale had always clung to believing it was or should be.

Who taught him that? Who helped him realize that Good was good independent of Heaven and laws, and Heaven was lawful independently of Good? Who helped him realize sometimes helping people and doing what was Right meant changing the course Heaven had set out for him?

Who better then to be at his side to help him change the course of Heaven itself to do what was Right?

Ever wonder about why God just stopped talking to everyone? Like, I get she just didn't think questions were allowed, maybe because nobody understood why she did the stuff and wouldn't or couldn't tell them, it was made quite obvious with Job. He could ask but the answer was "You don't get answers because you know nothing and I do", and she was pretty offended by Crowley asking questions, I bet there were many others who had their own hopes for the universe and also had their own questions... I've been thinking about how naive and sweet and child like Jim was, l mean, while Gabriel was such an idiot and a bully, I suppose without his experience there were just the basic settings of him... I can picture him following Her as a puppy (Jim) and seeing the way she acted when others had questions and just taking her side without even considering the questions, none of them cared about why they were asking, and boom! You got a ton of fallen angels.... and Gabriel grew to be a complete b*tch.

But... in the process She stopped wanting to talk to everyone, just went quiet... what the hell is the place of Metatron there? Like he is supposed to be the middle man, he knows stuff and he is nasty (can convince otherwise, he KNEW what he was doing with that proposal for Aziraphale)... Like I can picture him also being a naive precious angel ONCE, but why and how they ended up considering that way of acting is normal.... it's on her hands, she was the one doing the creating and in some way set the kind of nurturing the angels got, I can picture someone who is pretty much lost too, no guidance, no idea of what living souls such as the angels would do... because if she knew she was setting up the ring for all the fighting is just ... awful.

Obviously, there's the philosophical and theological side of this question but I'm not interested in that part (now) just about *this* narrative... I want to know!!!

Like I can picture Aziraphale being the one placing the 2nd baby Jesus, and it being a girl this time, and him trying to replicate the plan of the book so the world can't end... I dream about Adam being older and finding her just as Anathema did with him...

What I'm out of imagination is HOW the angel and demon come back together again, how Azyraphale explains the plan to a very angry and hurt Crowley and convince him to help...

And that question about why God went quiet and left Metatron in charge, what is She doing now? What is she going to do now? I don't suppose she enjoys her will being challenged (twice already she's been against answering people) so... I suppose it's a big part of the long-term plan for her, or maybe she is just a capricious creative type who just left and went to do whatever else she fancies somewhere out in the multiverse, at least until the date of the final kaboom.

GOOD OMENS SEASON TWO SPOILERS

Ok I’m gonna be deeply ranting and analyzing the kiss scene (mostly just the kiss itself) because OH MY GOSH THERES SO MUCH TOO IT

First of all here’s a gif of it:

And also I don't have a gif of it but when Crowley releases Aziraphale, what struck me was that he didn’t make them burst apart he gently and almost sadly just stepped back. And then watched. Now. One of the biggest things I’ve been thinking about in this (because I’ve been obsessively watching it over and over) is how Crowley is kissing him. It’s a long kiss. It’s not sensual. It’s not eating each others faces. It’s intimate and very romantic. Crowley missed Aziraphales lips by a hair and is slightly kissing his chin. Crowley holds him there as they sway back and forth slightly. I can’t see if his eyes are open or not. But the thing that strikes me about this is how much all of Crowley’s body language and everything just scream about how much he doesn’t want to move. He finally kissed his angel and he wants to stay pressed up against him, finally locked in the embrace he didn’t realize he needed for so long. He just stays there. He doesn’t kiss deeper. He just stays pressed against him, not wanting to deal with how Aziraphale will look at him afterwards.

then he has to break apart. He does it gently, but suddenly. Like he had to force himself but doesn’t want to . He wanted to stay, but he knows he can’t. So he steps back with his heart breaking more than he thought possible.

now onto Aziraphale.

Aziraphale is shocked. His eyes go from open to closed to open to closed. He leans back so slightly you almost can’t see it. He doesn’t seem to know how to feel.

And then his hands go around Crowley. It almost seems like it’s an unconscious motion, given how he looks after they break apart. It looks like for a split second, he lets himself melt into Crowley, as his hand wraps around his back and slides across it. But then he hesitates again abd takes his hands away. He thinks he can’t melt into Crowley. But there was the one moment where he broke.

after they break apart, Aziraphale looks shocked, upset, desperate, and to me, even a little disgusted. Probably because he doesn’t know how to deal with it. He licks his lips and moves his mouth around abd seems uncomfortable. But then after Crowley leaves he presses a hand to his mouth. He holds it for a second and starts crying. He realized he liked how it felt. He realizes everything he’s been missing. He loved the feeling of Crowley’s lips on his. Most importantly, he loves crowley.

on the topic of people hating on Aziraphale and saying the metatron did something to him, I disagree. This seems completely in character fir Aziraphale. He’s not an arsehole, he’s in conflict. He thinks he’s not allowed to love Crowley. I get him.

I need to rant about the Fallout show

Because this is the person I am. Full spoilers, so I’m putting it behind a Keep Reading:

I’m a huge sucker for Fallout (yes even 3&4). And I went into the Fallout show with some… trepidation. Amazon has been a mixed bag on adaptations, we could have been blessed with a Good Omens, or cursed by a Rings of Power. But early buzz and reviews seemed positive, so I slammed the whole thing in one night with my spouse (we were staying at my in-laws house and they have Prime. Time was a factor.)

And y’know? I was really enjoying it! The characters were fun, the plot was engaging enough, and the costumes and visual design were extremely on point. There were some minor lore quibbles to be had: Ghouls needing some kind of medicine to not go feral. Really, more Enclave holdouts? Timeline and date whoopsies. Wait are they in California? Where the hell is the NCR?

I made a face at Shady Sands being bombed and the NCR collapsing. But I wasn’t completely out of the story. Based on what I had seen so far, I thought it was building to a reveal that the Brotherhood had done it. That the more zealous turn they took in Fallout 4, which has clearly carried to how they are portrayed in the show, lead them to bombing the NCR. War never changes, as they say. Maximus even says when asked what happened to Shady Sands: “The same thing that always happens.” Yeah, it leans into Bethesda’s weird desire to keep the Fallout world in a state of perpetual wastelands full of raiders and no civilization, but it wasn’t so terrible that I couldn’t still enjoy the show.

But then.

BUT THEN.

Episode 8, and the reveal of Vault-Tec apparently being the ones who dropped the first bomb in the Great War.

I was surprised to hear that some fans have apparently been debating over who fired first? Some even asked Tim Cain about it?

That’s really odd to me because, in the games, there is already a pretty definitive answer to which side sparked the Great War:

Who fucking cares?

The world ended. What does it matter who shot first?

There is no China, no United States, no communists or capitalists left to fight about it. 

It's a powerful little bit of lore.

For all the posturing, all the promises from each nation that their way is the true way, all the nationalism, the militarism, and blind loyalty to flags over humanity, they both lost. Everyone lost. All that remains of the ideologies and nations that were so important to the people of 2077 is faint echoes over vast expanses of radioactive ash.

Who started the end?

No one knows. No one cares.

It only matters that their conflict was so bitter, so all-consuming, that one of them dropped their bombs, and the other dropped theirs in return.

The truest legacy of the old world is the devastation left by their final, most horrific war.

Can we do better?

Then the show says "Nah, Vault-Tec did it. It's not a commentary on human nature and the futility of self-destructive conflict, it was actually these guys, these mustache twirling villains huddled in a darkened room literally plotting to end the whole world so they can rule what's left."

And I can see the attempt to make this a critique of capitalism. I actually paused the show to praise a bit of writing when Coop is talking with Charlie before the war, when Charlie tells him that the “cattle ranchers are in charge” to illustrate how capitalism and corporations hold too much sway over the government, it felt very in line with how in New Vegas one of the recurring critiques of the NCR is that all the real power is in the hands of the “brahmin barons.” Nice parallel, spot on!

But “we’ll set off total thermonuclear war so we can rule the ashes and have a True Monopoly” isn’t capitalism. It’s just dumb “we’re the baddies” writing.

And then Shady Sands was also Vault-Tec?! Forget any meaning in the NCR falling to the same corruption and/or factional fighting that consumed the old world, they were literally just bombed by the evil shadow conspiracy that apparently also killed the old world. Hank gives this speech about factions fighting and the futility of it all while we see the Brotherhood fighting Moldaver’s NCR remnant, and like, no! You can’t say that when you’ve made it so neither the old world or the NCR fell to war with another faction! It was you! You and your band of cryogenic supervillains!

I don't care that they changed it. Timelines and dates and little retcons don’t bother me all that much. I care that they changed it to something so much worse.

Okay, I was just rewatching season 1 of good omens.

The final episode comes up, and it's nearing the end. The scene when Crowley and Aziraphale are about to be kidnapped by their respective "sides" is about to happen, but we already know that while they were ordering the ice cream together, they had already switched bodies.

It has come to my attention that as they were ordering the ice cream, and they were talking together.

(When I refer to "Aziraphale" in quotations, It refers to Crowley in Aziraphale's body, and vice versa)

"Aziraphale" asks "Crowley" about the car's state, and he replies that there was "Not a scratch on it." Then, "Crowley" asks about the book shop, and "Aziraphale" replies that there was "Not a smudge. Not a book burned. Everything back just the way it was."

I didn't notice during the first watch because I wasn't even aware they had switched bodies until later on, but this means that prior to their meeting, it's likely that the scenes where we watched "Aziraphale" walk around the bookshop, and "Crowley" seeing the bentley and faintly smiling, was also when they were switched. This would also explain why "Crowley" saw the bentley, and yet proceeded to not drive it, instead taking a taxi.

The thing that got me ranting about this is that when "Aziraphale" walked around the bookshop, checking around to see the state of everything, he saw the book collection on Azirphale's desk and said "Those are new."

Now, we are under the assumption that this is Crowley right now. Crowley looked around the book shop and was able to confirm, not only that everything was restored, but also that this very minute detail had changed.

I don't think it would be a stretch to say that Crowley had Aziraphale's entire bookshop memorized, so much so that he could tell this small stack of books, in this entire bookshop, wasn't there before. This speaks volumes about how aware Crowley is of the bookshop and what is inside it, knowing how much Aziraphale cares about it. (Which also makes sense considering they have probably been meeting here often for the past 6,000 years.)

This bookshop is essentially Aziraphale's home. Crowley knew it like it was his own. It's their bookshop.

Hey i dont know if this makes sense but i love your bibleposting because it actually humanizes the bible and the people in it? I was raised in a fundamentalist christian church where everything was untouchable and there was no room for interpretation and ive been trying to deconstruct and idk after being told youre nothing because youre just human its so nice to see interpretations of the bible that are about people as much as they are about god

Ahh thank you <3 I'm about to go on a slight rant, but I think that's where me and my parents fundamentally disagree about it haha. While it is a sacred text, it's also a historical/ancient book that's been cowritten by many different authors in a language I -- and I can probably guarantee my pastor-- don't speak. It's been translated and rewritten several different times, and has been cherrypicked through by men who are now probably dead to determine what's canon and not. It's fine to regard it as a holy text, but it isn't above discernment or interpretation. The pastor tells us his interpretation of it, and suddenly every other reading is wrong? That isn't a discussion at all. It's a Bible study not a Bible lecture. The bible and its scripture should not be untouchable, to claim it so is to speak for god

Okay rant over. I love humanizing characters! If the authors of the bible were so touched by their encounter with god that they wrote down pages and pages of it, then I find it fascinating to explore their experience. Not to bring up good omens but I just finished watching it so I will, but when they bring up that job loved his children, they were right. Did Job not love his former children? Did Isaac want to die? Didn't Moses feel anxious having to return to Egypt? Elijah was afraid. Jesus didn't want to die. Jesus was afraid. Exploring the humanity in these stuff is so interesting because in reducing a man to a myth, you make it so they are no longer a man. We can't live up to myths. We're human

I’m obsessed with this show and fear a hyperfixation anyways here are my thoughts on every character in the show

Edwin Paine: forever my favorite, even back before the show when I read the comics! I think it’s funny that basically every man in the show wants him? I’m intrigued by his character arc throughout the story regarding his sexuality as despite dying in 1916, he seems to have had time to slowly become more accepting of gay people (I’m guessing in part due to Charles, who is pansexual), to the point where there’s only mild internalized homophobia if at all, which just exhibits itself in him denying any possible feelings for Monty. I love how face-value and logical he is while still being a sweetheart

Charles Rowland: he has a pan flag pin on his jacket which confuses me bc can ghosts only wear clothes they would’ve worn when they were alive, or how do ghost clothes work? Because he died in 1989 and I’m near positive he didn’t wear that pin back there. Anyways I do love him but I wonder about some design choices, like the one earring (not sure why it just kinda annoys me). That was more a rant abt his design than his character, which I have nothing notable to say abt since I LOVE HIM he’s so real

Crystal Palace: sometimes she was a bit annoying the way she was trying way too hard to pry into everyone’s lives, but honestly that was just momentary annoyance since nothing could make me hate her. I love how her past was slowly revealed (as someone who already knew it from the comics) and how she came to terms with the person she used to be vs the person she is now. She’s so cool!

David the demon: honestly kind of caught me off guard at first bc the person I’m dating is named David but I actually enjoyed his character. LOVED when Crystal dealt with him in the end. He was very interesting

Niko Sasaki: I love Niko, but I have some problems with her character. First of all, I feel like ditsy anime-loving cutesy Asian girl with dyed hair is a weirdly common trope? But whatever my main issue is that it feels like characters who normalize the fetishization of gay men are so common. Like if Niko had been a guy obsessed with lesbian manga evb would be weirded out, so why is it different? If we ignore all of this tho I absolutely adore her and I’m actually praying she’s in the next season bc she was one of my favorites (esp her relationship w Edwin)

Jenny: She is so hot and cool and funny I’m in love with her

Esther: oh my god words cannot come close to describing how much I love her character. She felt powerless and weak in the past and now she’s become obsessed with making sure nobody has that power over her ever again. She was so fun and I loved her attitude! I’m sure she won’t show up next season, as she was the main antagonist of s1, and while I love her, I kind of hope she doesn’t since I think her arc was finished.

Monty: His personality was like 2020 “soft boy” who acts nice and dumb but is lowkey a manipulator. So obviously this kind of made me like ☠️ bc why is he acting like that… but I still love him to bits because he’s just a crow guys he didn’t ask to be human,, Anyways yeah his personality annoys me but also I love him so much so? It’s confusing. ITS COMPLICATED. I will cry if he’s not in s2

Kingham and Litty: I honestly thought they were annoying but I can’t lie they were so fucking funny. Every time they were on screen I laughed.

Cat King: oh my god. He is so camp. I love him. There’s honestly not much to say he is simply iconic. Love how he’s afraid to be alone so chases after other people, he’s so real AGHH I love him

Night Nurse: Ruth Connell the woman you are… 😍 she reminds me of Muriel from Good Omens, in a way, and I love her! I really hope we get to see more of her in relation to the guy in the fish, and see her get to better understand human emotions and why they choose to cling onto the human world rather than pass on!
