The real-world impact of Lore Olympus

Long post ahead

A while ago, someone told me that Lore Olympus was just a silly little comic written out of boredom. That it was made to be "funny". They told me that "[I] can't hope [for] an extremely [well-written] story when it was just made with the intention to make something goofy" and that if Rachel actually wanted to make something serious like I had, she would write a book and not a comic.

At the time of this exchange, it was past 1 a.m. and I was exhausted. I did not want to argue with this person and it simply wasn't worth my time or energy in the moment.

But looking back at that (mostly one-sided) interaction, I can't help but think that there is so much wrong with that point of view. Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion about Lore Olympus, whether good or bad. But Lore Olympus isn't just some silly little nothing comic about nothing important. It is a comic that actively appropriates and erases Greek Culture. It is a comic that has no respect for the actual stories that have been passed down over thousands of years whether by word of mouth or written text. It is a comic that perpetuates a false narrative and harmful stereotypes about characters or certain groups of people. So, no, it's not just a silly little comic.

Incorrect information

Here’s an example of what I mean:

When I was doing research for my post about the 10 year time skip, I looked up Leuce to reconfirm the little information I knew about her. Wanna guess the first thing that popped up about her?

A Lore Olympus Wiki article.

Okay. How about Minthe? Hundreds of pictures of her from Lore Olympus and a LO Wiki article as one of the top 3 results. Both character are horribly represented in LO and unfortunately there isn’t really any documented stories or records that can refute how LO paints them. Because of this, other characters in Greek Mythology like Leuce and Minthe, whose stories have little to no documentation, stand to suffer the most harm from deliberate misrepresentation on Rachel’s part.

Of course well-known and better documented figures in Greek mythology face slander as well. What about Thetis or Leto? How about Apollo? All of their portrayals in LO are HORRIBLE. I have seen people online absolutely drag them to filth not because they're upset about how the character is portrayed compared to their mythological counterpart, but because they have no knowledge of how they are actually portrayed outside of LO. They just assume that's how the characters are. Similarly, people who have either very little or no prior knowledge of Greek Mythology and Culture would look at the comic and go "Yep, sounds legit. It must be true." and go about thinking that what is portrayed in LO is accurate to what was transcribed thousands of years ago.

Creative interpretations and racism/fetishization within LO

Don’t get me wrong. Creative interpretations and artistic liberties can be great. When they’re done tastefully. I personally think if done correctly, a Greek myth spun in a modern way has the potential be very good. But that's not what we were given.

Characters like Minthe, Leuce, and Thetis (all nymphs btw) are portrayed as trashy tramps who put out and are used as a foil sabotage Persephone and/or her relationship with Hades. Compare that to Greek Mythology where in the Iliad, Thetis is very well-respected by the gods, particularly Hera. Unfortunately, other similar characters like satrys (and basically any character that isn’t a god) are usually portrayed as a low-class POC that can be easily exploited, manipulated, or used as a temporary villain/lover/pawn to “get back” at Persephone, our white-coded protagonist who can do no wrong.

Additionally, there is a clear race/class bias against characters like nymphs in LO. We see many cases scattered throughout the comic of gods like Hera or Aphrodite referring to nymphs as "trash" or "low class" or the idea that nymphs do not belong with gods being heavily implied if not outright said. I cannot tell you how often I've seen Minthe be called some variant of "cheap" by the readers of LO. Even Persephone (who created the flower nymphs) treats them with such disrespect. She frequently calls them some variant of "stupid" or "simple" like saying how they're not the sharpest crayons in the box even though she's the one WHO MADE THEM. However, it's so odd not really to note that nymphs like Echo, Amphitrite, or Psyche (who was previously disguised as a nymph) are not discriminated against. This is because they are liked or trusted by the gods they are around and ergo are often portrayed as the "good ones", which is a disgusting mindset to have.

We also see the fetishization of nymphs in the comic that is disturbingly similar to the fetishization of women who are Black, Asian, or Latina. It is a known fact that Hades has a flower nymph fetish. Not only is this implied in the comic, but Rachel stated it outright in an old Patreon post. Nymphs are also generally treated as sex-symbols, disposable, and as a lesser-than. Zeus frequently displays this behavior by abandoning nymphs he knocked up in the mortal realm.

For example, when Persephone finds out Apollo is dating Daphne, she isn't upset he's dating her friend. She's upset he's dating a flower nymph, beings that are generally considered to be "rare", "dumb", and objects of sexual desire. Ew.

Even on the Lore Olympus website (loreolympians.com) nymphs are regarded as "beautiful", "desirable", and "very exotic". And when they're not described in a sexual manner they're say it with me now regarded as "low class" or "workers" for some kind of god/goddess.

Final thoughts

So not only is the characterization of characters like Minthe or Thetis harmful to Greek culture and the stories that are so ingrained in their society, but it is also perpetuating harmful stereotypes about people of color and women who are confident in their sexuality.

Of course, the characters within Greek Mythology had their own issues. Zeus was a serial rapist, many of the goddesses deemed to be "feminist" by today's standards were actually horribly misogynistic looking at you Athena. But 1. that's just how things were back then (but that does not make it right) and 2. all of the good, the bad, and the ugly is still there in Greek Mythology. They're not denying how fucked up it is, but they're also not changing their history to better fit their own narrative or the narrative of the modern world. It exists, it happened, but now it is studied and called out by historians.

Rachel, on the other hand, is doing exactly that. She is actively changing the Greek's cultural history to better fit her fic's narrative. She is constantly sweeping things under the rug or going "No this is how it ACTUALLY happened". Lore Olympus is marketed as a "feminist retelling" yet somehow, it takes allllll the ugly parts from Greek Mythology (rape, incest, problematic age gaps, dubious consent, etc.), mixes it with a majority of the issues we have in the modern world (white feminism, rape-apologists/rape culture, grooming, fetishization of certain minority groups, etc.) and then amplifies the concoction to 20. Lore Olympus cannot be a "progressive, feminist, retelling" and also have characters that are morally apprehensive/come straight from the ancient myths. It does not work. In fact, IMO it makes all the problems from both eras worse.

News flash: actual cultures that are still thriving today are not your toys. They are not "made up". They matter. Do better.

hi jade! i think your concerns about the way people are treating you are completely valid!! you are allowed to speak up and say actually people aren’t being that nice to me and it isn’t victim mentality, the people we’re surrounded by have serious effects on us as humans because we’re social creatures and have always depended on one another so when the people around us make us feel bad and like there’s something wrong with us your brain convinces you that there must be!!! but there isn’t, you’re just not with the right people! but don’t worry they’ll come; you have to trust the universe she will always provide for you.

i think life’s stressful at the minute, i’m feeling it too! the job market in the UK is so so difficult and being unemployed is a real kick in the teeth, being at the age where all your friends are off dating but you’re not and you’re not even sure you want to is really isolating because you know your friends don’t want to see you as much because there’s someone else for them now, they get to go home to someone and you don’t, i’ve been following you for a while because i like your work but also because you make me feel less alone, a lot of the problems you face i also face, you post complaints and worry they’re annoying but i read them and know the world isn’t as small or as dark as my room, that i’m not completely alone even in my isolation- and i want you to know that the way people treat you isn’t fair! you deserve the kindness and joy you put out, you deserve it ten fold! you’ll get it one day i promise, i think continuing in an environment that’s hard for you is a very brave thing to do, yoy just have to remember it’s not forever 🫶🏻

So instead of being able to just say people haven’t been that good to me lately, I read it in someone else’s head and think oh look Jade’s on another ego trip she thinks she deserves more than she has because she’s delusional but honestly, right now, I think so many people have disappointed me, not like they’ve hurt me or that a persons job is to be perfect, and not that we should expect people to be perfect and never disappoint us because I really don’t think that and don’t think we should expect people to read our minds and always be their perfect selves, but oh my god! Oh my god I am so tired of people acting like there’s nothing wrong with me when I am constantly telling people I am not okay. Obvi this doesn’t apply to everyone in my life because some people of course don’t even know how I feel and that’s my choice because like I’m vaguely private as a person (you wouldn’t think so on luveline.tumblr) so I’m not saying every person in my life is letting me down, but a surprising selection of friends and family have really hurt me lately. It’s so complicated! I hope you’re getting a sense of what I’m saying cos I am not doing a good job. I sent a friend a message recently about how I’d felt like hurting myself (they’ve told me in the past it’s okay to bring up btw I promise I’m not just randomly saying such heavy things to friends) and they didn’t acknowledge it, and I know we can’t expect people to be at our beck and call or to always have the capacity for our hurts and pains, but I felt so ashamed of myself for opening up and just wished they’d said hey I don’t have the space for that right now, or anything. Maybe that’s silly. I don’t hold it against them because that’s a big thing to tell someone, but I really can’t help feeling hurt that it was ignored. I don’t want to be that person who imposed on friends and doesn’t seem to realise what a burden they are, but I also just don’t know what to do with myself now, because i can’t keep writing the same thing in my diary every day. my head hurts allll the time and I’m barely eating and some days I spend the whole day in bed, and I know that that’s making me bitter, I know that when you get super depressed we can start to hate everything, but I really can’t help thinking that I’m being let down for real

I don’t want you to think that I’m ungrateful for the people in my life though I’m blessed to have a family and to live in a home with no shouting, I’m lucky to have friends who go out and people who want me to be safe and happy, I just feel so lonely lately. Heavy and Medic Switch

Basically, how I view Heavy and Medic’s intimate relationship in a nutshell.

This was sort of based on a post that I heavenly agreed on but I also wanted to put my two cents in here. This is gonna be a long post about my journey with this couple.

Let me explain: 

There has been a silly little debate about what activities Heavy and Medic do behind closed doors, especially their roles/positions. 

On one hand, there’s Team Heavy: he’s big, strong, and intimidating. He can rock your world (as well as your bed). On the other hand, there’s Team Medic: he’s professional, insane, and sadistic. He can take your breath away (as well as your virginity). 

Team Heavy has been there since the very beginning since he’s viewed and portrayed as the more “masculine” and “dominating” man. He may know a thing or two about sex (or not since Heavy spent most of his life in the Gulag, idk). 

Throughout the years, Team Medic has been sprinkled in from time to time since he may have more experience in this field (or not since he may be focused on his experiments, idk). He’s got a few tricks up his sleeves and may be skilled with techniques. 

Anyways, I’ve seen and heard from both sides, so I’ll tell you a thing or two from my experience.

When I first got into TF2 and was interested in HeavyMedic, I assumed that Heavy was like the oldest merc just because of his voice, height, and strength. (I’m stupid to think that’s what it means to be old and how they should be.) I was then wrong to find out that it may be either Spy or Medic (idk which tho). But I thought that it was a pretty interesting dynamic to have a serious, tall younger man and a crazy, shorter older man in a relationship and I think that’s pretty cute. 

Now when it came to same-sex relationships in smut art or fanfics, most people prefer the older masculine man to top since it’s more hotter, I guess. Back then, I enjoyed it but whenever I see or read a fanfic where it’s the opposite, I love it even more and I wasn’t sure why. Is it because the dominant one gets a taste of his own medicine or is it because I enjoy the reactions he gives or even both? I thought it was because the younger one finally gets to have a go at it. And ever since then, I clinged on to it and preferred it even more than the norm or majority.

And like I said, when I got into HeavyMedic, I was Team Medic, because I thought that Heavy is older and I wanted Medic to top (until I realized I was stupid). Ok, Heavy is younger and topping Medic so that means I enjoy it, right? Well... yes and no. Yes, because it was interesting to read and I enjoyed reading it, and no, because... well... I hate to say this but... 

It just gets repetitive.

I then ask myself, “What’s wrong? Why don’t I enjoy it as much as I used to anymore?” Is it because Heavy is bigger? Stronger? More masculine? Just what is it? Or is it because Medic is my main and my favorite character (Heavy’s my second favorite character, btw so aww) and I want him to have a piece of Heavy’s cake for once? Or maybe I’m just biased, I guess, idk. That could be the case until I read some fanfics that contains Medic and another person (let’s say Engie since I like the pairing tho not as much as HeavyMedic) and I noticed something different. Sometimes Medic tops and sometimes he bottoms (tho it depends on the person he’s paired with so results may vary). Now tbh, I never read a fanfic where someone else is paired with Heavy since I didn’t know who else was perfect for him so please prove me wrong when I say this but...

What are the chances/percentages that Heavy bottoms?

Most of the time, it’s pretty rare and look, I get it, I completely understand. He’s an impressive specimen. Who wouldn’t want Heavy to fuck them? Hell, I would too, tbh. But see that’s the thing. We all want Heavy to do something for us but we never considered doing something for him.

I read some Bottom Heavy fanfics where Heavy even expresses this issue and I sympathized with him for it. So whenever Medic (in this case) is there for him and does the deed, it leaves me in a good mood. And because of that, I was Team Medic (also like I said before, I just want to see Heavy’s reactions and eat it up as much as possible and, well, Medic is hot when he’s dominating him). Also, “Heavy and Medic Get It On” is an old-time classic and I love it.

Also, just because Medic is shorter or less muscular, that doesn’t mean that he should be portrayed as the more weaker or submissive one. The same goes for Heavy, just because Heavy is taller and more muscular, that doesn’t mean that he should be portrayed as the more stronger or dominant one. Let them both have a fair share of fun.

I then realized that a majority of my favorite HeavyMedic smut fics were Bottom Heavy based and again I ask myself, “Why do I enjoy it more than the majority of fanfics? Just what is it?” Until I realized something, I put all the pieces together. “Dominant one bottoming” “Majority” “Repetitive” “Chance/Percentages of bottoming” I soon came to this conclusion.

The reason I love Bottom Heavy so much is because it stands out more than other smut fanfics.

It just made so much sense to me now. And not just Heavy but other fanfics where the top bottoms. It was a breath of fresh air for me. And I don’t want to diss top Heavy but as I said before, it just gets repetitive to the point where that’s the norm and it gets a little boring. When I read it, I know what’s coming up so I know what to expect from it. So when I read one where Heavy bottoms all of a sudden, it just catches me off guard, leaving me surprised and yet impressed by it. And it leaves me wanting more.

And like I said before, I like Top Medic since it’s nice for a change and while there have been Top Medic fics sprinkled throughout the years I noticed that it’s slowly increasing in popularity and I’m happy that other people seem to like it as well.

However, just because I would love to see an increase of Top Medic fics, that doesn’t mean that I want Top Heavy to stop, slow, or die out. I’m not saying I hate it, don’t get it the wrong way or anything. I still love Top Heavy and I love how they interact especially their reactions (mostly Medic’s). I just want Medic to get a piece of that action, y’know? He may be old but that doesn’t mean he has no spark of energy in him anymore. He could become a beast if he wanted to. Let the old man have a go at it.

Also, because it’s just a silly little debate, I don’t want people to fight over who tops and who bottoms. That’s the last thing I want to cause. Besides, there are people who don’t like reading smut fics with them in it and that’s also fine. Not everything needs to be related to sex in a relationship especially theirs. It’s called having a normal life and enjoying it. I love reading fluff fics where there’s a strangers-to-friends, slow burn, friends-to-lovers, confession, dating, one bed/ sharing a bed, acting like a couple, being a couple, marriage proposal, wedding, couple life with or without a kid, and sadly even death/afterlife whether it takes place during or after the Gravel Wars. And of course, I LOVE reading stories where Heavy and Medic are just chatting and laughing in the infirmary during surgery (with Archimedes there, of course). This post is just focusing on when they’re in the bedroom. We are all different people with different headcanons. You got yours, I got mines. I don’t have to agree with yours and you don’t have to agree with mines. Alright? But I found out a little solution that may or may not solve this little problem and it’s much rarer than Top Medic/Bottom Heavy (just know that this isn’t the ultimate solution, but rather a small suggestion).

Switch/Versatile

What is this and what does this mean? Please correct me if I’m wrong or make a mistake. These two words may mean the same thing but just like how top/bottom and dominant/submissive compare, it’s different. Switch means you can either be dominant or submissive depending on the mood and versatile means you like to top and bottom. Most of the time when I forget, I just simplify both to switch to make it easy to understand.

I’ve read at least 3 smut fanfics where Heavy and Medic tend to switch roles and positions in the same chapter or story and tbh, I really liked them. Not as much as Top Medic but I really enjoyed reading them and just like Bottom Heavy it was a breath of fresh air, became some of my favorite HeavyMedic smut fics, and I would love to see an increase of it too.

Let’s wrap things up now. 

At the end of the day, if you were to ask me which team I’d prefer, I’d still say Team Medic, BUT I’m starting to lean more towards HeavyMedic switches. This is a copy-paste to when I replied to a random HeavyMedic post, but here’s why I love it.

“I see Heavy and Medic as good 'ol switches since they see each other as equal whether on or off the battlefield. HeavyMedic switches are also very rare in smut fics. In the beginning, Heavy says, "Get behind me, Doktor!" and ever since MvM, Medic also says, "Get behind me!" They fight together, help each other, heal each other, and make each other laugh so technically they should also please each other in bed.”

Also, it’s fun to read about what kind of whacky adventures they do together. They are both different beings who do different jobs and hobbies. One’s a heavy-lifter and one’s a doctor. Think of the many kinds of possibilities they could do to each other depending on the variety of settings to have full-on make-out sessions. It’s fun to get creative.

Technically if you really want to think about it, which team am I in?

Well, it’s a lovely, beautiful, sweet, short, simple answer that really means a lot to me that really brings it all together in the end.

The cold October air caresses your face as you wait patiently for your boyfriend on the roof of your building. You have known for almost a year now that Peter is Spider-Man, given one night, after only six months of being together, he showed up injured in front of your bedroom window in his suit, asking you for help. 

For the past few months you have made a habit of seeing each other at night after he has made his rounds in the neighborhood, to check that all is well, on the roof of your building. Even if andesso it starts to get a little colder you would not replace this moment with anything else: you love spending time with Peter up here, away from everyone and everything, without worry, as you watch the moon rise in the sky over Queens. 

As you stand there looking around, spying on their lives of others through their windows, you hear a dry thud behind you. Immediately you turn around already knowing who you would see. 

"Hey Pete!" You say as you get up, walking toward him with open arms. He still approaches with his suit on and his face covered by his mask, but his arms mimic yours. You hug very tightly, before he removes the mask over his face. His beautiful smile finally returns as his eyes look intently at my face before he kisses me. 

Our mouths dance to music only we know until we are breathless. Once we part, my breath fails me a second time, but this time from fear. 

"What was that?" You say frightened under your breath. He immediately becomes alert, turns around and makes sure you are protected behind him as he checks the whole area. 

"What did you see?" Peter asks in a serious tone. 

"You're going to think I'm crazy, but I saw...a ghost, it was definitely a ghost, or something that looked like one." 

"Honey, we have to stop watching horror movies in the middle of the night because we can't sleep." He says half laughing as you punch him lightly between his shoulder blades. 

"Yeah yeah, you can make fun of me all you want for this, but can you go check it out? I know it sounds silly to you, but it would make me feel a lot better." You whisper the last part, pressing yourself against his back. He looks at you and leaves a kiss on your forehead before answering you. 

"Of course I'll go check, just stay here and try not to get kidnapped by Dracula in the meantime." 

You give him another little slap before he turns away and walks over to where you saw the ghost. What seems like hours but is actually a few seconds pass before a scream from the boy rips through the air. 

"Oh my God Peter, are you all right? Did you see the ghost too? Damn I shouldn't have let you go alone!" You yell back as you walk toward him. 

You see him lying on the ground laughing, holding in his hands a white children's blanket with a stylized ghost on it. 

"Love...it was a fucking bedsheet." He says, as he gets up still laughing at your fear. 

"You're an asshole Peter Parker." You say angrily, as you cross your arms over your chest, even though you too are smiling at the stupid scene that just took place. 

"And you love me for it too." He says, hugging you, and resting the blanket on your shoulders. 

"Unfortunately for me, yes, but you don't have to take advantage of it." You respond by closing your arms around him again. 

You stay for hours more on the roof of the building before entering the apartment, as you talk about this and that and look at the city from above kept warm by that blanket that had so frightened you.

(I'm with you with regards to the "quite easily I like it" OP post btw! Just wanna make that clear ^^;;) I almost wonder if the gripes are like, in part people who see how the women are drawn and base All Their Opinions of the series on that. That or they got mad at the clown thing Tumblr did and just decided to hate the series for it. Or they're just a little hater, honestly anything can apply. I'm not a fan of OP, haven't seen a second of it to make a decision, but like. 5 or 6 (including you- im not just a random, im just really shy LOL) of my friends are, and the one thing keeping me off from watching it is the fact that it's one of the longest animes still going- And I almost wonder if that also has a part to play in the "lol how can u watch one piece" thing people have going on. Also, have you seen the bananawanis yet?? I don't go here but I love them.

The thing is, I think there are plenty of things to criticize about one piece. I’ve seen and had many thoughtful discussions about elements of the work that can easily be considered harmful stereotypes, as well as some well-intentioned ideas that I think were executed in a subpar and clumsy manner. Some of these are directly a result of the author being only 1 guy with 1 lived experience, some are the result of broader issues in the shonen genre.

And these discussions are great! Everyone is better off for having thought about these potentially damaging aspects deeper, and it’s incredibly important to be able to recognize that an author you respect and follow isn’t perfect and doesn’t need defending over every single thing. And at the same time, I fully respect anyone who has no interest in getting into the work because they don’t want to put up with any of the parts that are far from perfect.

Personally, what I can’t stand is the tone of condescension people are very quick to take… I do not fault anyone for not digging the show's visual style, it's not for everyone. But I don't really appreciate the implication that I'm like, stupid or misogynist or cumbrained just because I enjoy the work overall. Or even because I do enjoy Oda's art; I think he is a really talented artist, but elements of his stylization are not always my favorite, including both his general figures for both women and men. This is not even starting to mention the incredible talents of many of the individual animators who work on the one piece anime, who all put a lot of their own amazing flair into adapting the work.

On the topic of the latter thing, I've truly never understood the length being a barrier to the ability to enjoy the work. It's always really baffled me...? I don't know if it's like, people who are only interested in getting into OP specifically to interact with the fandom, but in my opinion there's no actual factor that makes you need to catch up to current as fast as possible. In my mind, having so much of a new thing is wonderful for me; I'll have a lot of great story to enjoy, I can take it at my own pace, enjoy watching a bit at a time for a long time. I guess everyone just wants to be done with something as fast as possible these days... Pretty sad... Make it last and enjoy it lots :-)

I've gone on for long enough, but basically, I couldn't care less if anyone doesn't enjoy the same thing that I enjoy a lot--that's life! I simply can't stand being treated like some sort of idiot for liking it, and I'm done basically agreeing with those kinds of people by giving them any ground. None of this is a super serious problem of course, just a pet peeve... but what is a blog for if not talking at length about my silly little pet peeves ;-)

more about Casey: something I’ve felt for a long time and haven’t seen any people address is, I feel like at the beginning of the rivalry with Donnie, it was less fighting over April and a lot more Casey just reacting to Donnie being a dick to him?? It’s definitely in his own insane Casey Jones way. But, its a lot more Donnie seeing Casey as a sworn rival and Casey reacting to how badly Donnie treated him for seemingly no reason, than them being romantic rivals at first sight. later on there definitely are moments where Donnie gets to do something alone with April and Casey throws his little tantrum in the background, but honestly I don’t see Casey as viewing Donnie as a “threat”. It’s just how I read it but I feel like to Casey its more,,,,,, playful. I think back to the farmhouse arc and when Casey told Donnie to “dream on” after April kissed him and it just read more as a light-hearted moment to me than Casey being super serious about it. and that’s how I read a lot of the jealousy over April moments. If April and Donnie had gotten together in the early series I think Casey would be a bit upset. a kinda “ah man :/” because he DID really like April. and I do think he might have spoken up about it, but mostly because all he knew about Donnie was that he was a huge jerk to him. But if Casey and April had seriously gotten together in the early series? Donnie would have been sobbing in his lab for like. two weeks. minimum. (btw I love donnie but also I am going to bully him a little bit. just a little bit). also I def could be reading that all wrong but. to me that’s how it is. to me

ANYWAY i think casey would play the bass. he kinda sucks at it. he’s the kind of guy to play like three chords. pause. and go “ok here’s seven nation army :)”. he’s trying though. he and raph do have jam sessions every once in awhile. I think one of the most important things is that he’s kind. It’s at the heart of who he is, he just wants to help people. part of being a vigilante is being able to beat people up and have fun, but I think the most important part to him (even if not always obvious) is being able to do some good out there. he’s trying. he’s trying so hard. I love him ok raph time: going to be honest here and say that I’m still trying to figure out his character. pressing out the details and all of that, so im probably going to give more silly/fun headcanons for him

starting off with the one I hold most dear. I think that post canon he adopts a couple more turtles. turtle dad. casey begs him to get a softshell because he thinks they look ridiculous and raph agrees, but then ropes casey into also caring for the turtle. turtle dads, together. I think Donnie eventually gets him to respect science a little bit more after bringing him along to the junkyard to blow stuff up. power of Violence

Ok i'm going to sleep now. I have been watching 10 and a half episodes today!!

So I just sometimes when I liveblog, or really just talk about SL in general, feel like a real oddball. Of course, I do say a lot of stuff that people agree with, but I at the same time have unpopular opinions, as well as.... well, thoughts no one else really has.

And I mean, that's good! I like being a little out of the box. But I also sometimes just feel like a fool.

Very few people for example, see the potential of Lumon being endgame. But I do!! I really, really do! Ok, in season 3, sure, it's clear they're not endgame. But in season 2 especially, the season I am rewatching right now, I really feel like they could be endgame! If I didn't know how things would go in the show, perhaps if I watched the show when it originally aired, I would have hoped and rooted for them!! (still would have ended up disappointed, but still). I don't know what would have happened with Matteo, or with Ámbar, if Lumon was endgame, and I agree it's hard to see Ámbar with anyone but Simón (my only other options would be Emilia and Ramiro, for her). And I like Simbar, too! I don't know if it's normal to like Simbar and Lumon at the same time? But I win and I suffer at the same time. It's really energy consuming, I'll tell you that. Though, I really don't like feeling all the time like I have to prove that I can like both. So whenever I lovebomb lumon I need to be like "no but simbar <3333 so good <333". I don't know why I feel that. Why can't I just like them both without feeling like I constantly have to compensate talking about the other when I talked about one of them?? It's so strange why I feel that. No one has really made me feel like that, it's all in my head!

I also love analyzing the crap out of Jim and Yam's scenes. While so many can agree they're lesbians, they're in love, etc, I just feel like I just. Am taking it to the next level. They're not just a "haha they're in love" ship for me, I am serious about them. And I think perhaps that, the way no one else really analysed them the way I did, just caused me to do it more. No one else ever wrote Jim/Yam fics, so I did. But sometimes when I do my long analyses, they always get like. One or two notes at most. Sometimes they get none. And I always sit and think like, "I wonder how many people just scroll past like 'ok then?' when they see these posts". So I am a lonely Jam warrior, so be it! What is really crazy btw is that I do these analyses of wlw ships all the time in Violetta, and that's no problem. So I really wonder why I feel more... awkward and a little odd doing it in the SL fandom? I don't know if it's because it's more normal to do that in the Violetta fandom or what's going on.

Then I just make these lowkey Luna/Nina posts, but with that it's really just me being silly. Cause I love them just as besties, they don't have to be more, it's just me being a little "haha but what if".

I'm also weird thoughts and ideas, so people should... you know, expect weird thoughts and ideas. But that’s the thing, too - I constantly jump from ”just write whatever you think without caring what others will think” while at the same time always feeling like I have to defend myself when I write more ”unpopular” opinions. It feels like, if I don’t defend myself, someone will come and question me. I don’t know if that’s because people did do that when I started watching SL for the first time, or if it’s simply that I am like that in general, I don’t know!

Anyway it's 3 AM and I really need to sleep, I just needed to write out my final thoughts for the night. Maybe they make no sense. Maybe I'll wake up in the morning and think this was a really bad post and I'll delete it. Idk.

It is because there is absolutely no reason to be that involved and pressed over your celeb crush’s relationship. It is not normal to want to know how things are in their relationship every single week. Nobody should care that much, it is weird. I saw this long rant from one of the anons on theloverscard blog that pretty much confirmed everything I already thought about them. It was just one long essay of projection. The reason why they get so defensive and angry when people on this blog (some of which happen to be tarot readers themselves but they refuse to believe that because of their confirmation bias) point out problems about the Evan tarot blogs is because most of those readings are telling them exactly what they want to hear: that Evan isn’t serious about Natalie and that they could be his soulmate. They cannot handle hearing the opposite of that. Every single time a reader posts a positive reading about Evan and Natalie, there will be a bunch of anon messages like “but this person said that things weren’t going well so how can that be true or “I don’t think this can be true because of ~whatever stupid reason they give~.” Also, since they keep bringing it up, I have seen other tarot readings done by other people, they show up in the Evan tag, and most of the readings I saw were positive about Natalie and Evan. There was only one I saw from months ago that said she didn’t see anything serious. So the whole “but so many other tarot readers saw the same things as us.” is simply wrong and silly to me.

YES, thank you. the irony is that any normal person who browses these peoples blogs can see what it’s all about and what purpose it serves. they were essentially founded with the concept that their blogs would be the hangouts for the fans who can’t accept evan and natalie dating and need reassurance that it won’t last; now, anytime anything remotely positive is posted, rosa and co come up to challenge it with their “what about…” and every time the admins play along because they know what’s up 🥴

okokokok so my first wish would be for motivation. it doesn't even have to be something that's super prevalent all the time just, something. my second wish would be for an ever lasting battery in my laptop please and thank you. and I think my third wish would probably just be something simple like decent spelling and grammar lol

hmmm something really difficult for me to write is intimacy on any sort of level regardless of the relationship, idk why. something really easy for me is angst. I like writing angsty shit idk

ok so i don't write in the margins, however i write in my notebooks about the books bc i'm a freak (dont worry i'm relentlessly judged for it by my friends). I will not under any circumstances dog-ear a page, i'd rather lose the page and have to go back for it. And I really don't take baths...? last one I took was probably like ten years ago if i'm being honest lol and i'll only judge you if you dog-ear, and no we cannot be friends if you dog-ear 😑(just kidding...unless)

17. Talk to me about the minutiae of your current WIP. Tell me about the lore, the history, the detail, the things that won’t make it in the text.

so for the wip that i've been staring at recently, Innocence Is (i swear i'll have the stuff posted soon), there's a lot of small nods to the main characters past that seem otherwise very minute or silly but actually play a very big part in how she conducts herself. especially with all the little trinkets she collects and leaves around.

24. How much prep work do you put into your stories? What does that look like for you? Do you enjoy this part or do you just want to get on with it?

ummm it kind of just depends on what kind of story it is and how serious i am about the worldbuilding. like for Crimson Waters there's a lot of worldbuilding, but for something like Rule The World there's a lot less that goes in to it but either way there's always a good amount of notebooks and google sheets being used lol

Relate it to their own relationships/own self ships, especially when it comes to Mario specifically, because I am very uncomfortable sharing and if someone were to comment on that and be like “this is how I feel about him, this is so me and him” I would literally end up in PRISON. i cannot be held responsible for what I would do (all jokes all jokes)

You are allowed to find whatever you want relatable, especially if it’s me I’m very relatable I’m very cool and everyone should relate to me (all jokes). Find whatever character you want attractive and post about it all you want. Idc. However I will avoid posts about him at all costs. Because they make me wanna rip my skin off. Woah who said that.

If I see anybody who isn’t me even sniff in his direction? It’s over for all of us. I have to do something drastic. This is the first time I've rlly heard about Riku since I followed you, what's his deal? :0 would you mind telling me a little bit about him?

HELLO THERE YES ABSOLUTELY I WILL TELL YOU ALL ABOUT MY BOY!!!!

Ok so this is the first ask I ever answered about him and it is a semi good summary of his plot but a lot has happened since then (it was over a year ago) so I'll go over it again here for convenience. This predictably got long af so it's under a read more.

Also if you want any more random bits of info you can find it by searching for "riku kirijo" on my blog (or on Tumblr itself he has his own tag 💀)! I make random little fact posts about him so there's more info in those. You'll also probably find my older art for him for his previous design, but the last art piece I did is his design as of now and probably won't be changed cause I'm super happy with it. Also if you look under "oc tag" or "au tag" I tag some random posts with those if I think they fit the au (it's usually silly jokes and stuff).

Basically Riku is my Persona 5 OC and he's the eldest (and only) son of Yukari and Mitsuru from P3 (I'm sure you know by now I'm a massive Yukamitsu fan but if not now you do 💀). Now obvs there's not enough of a time gap in canon for this to be possible so the gap in this AU is about 30 years, I haven't worked that part out yet. He also has one sister (Yuna).

Riku's story starts really about two years before the events of P5 (btw I mean Royal but I'm just gonna refer to it as P5 cause I'm lazy). Basically he was feeling very lonely, had a hard time making friends and felt he needed to step out of his moms shadows. So he decides to move to Tokyo to get a chance to live out on his own and have a change of scenery. Because he's only 14/15 at the time he can't live on his own and for reasons I'll go into another time, his moms can't come with him. So enter Chiyoko Hatanaka, one of Mitsuru's high ranking staff who offers to become Riku's guardian of sorts while he's in Tokyo. Mitsuru agrees and Riku moves to Tokyo with her enrolling in Kosei High (he's in the same class as Yusuke and Hifumi).

However a few months after they moved, Hatanaka starts to drop her nice act and reveals her true colors and starts abusing Riku (both physically and mentally). I won't reveal the reason why as that's a huge spoiler and I plan on doing something with this story eventually. Riku doesn't tell anyone ofc because he's too scared (Hatanaka has some serious dirt on the Kirijo Group which she uses to blackmail him). So Mitsuru and Yukari have no idea this is happening but have noticed weird changes in his behavior whenever he comes home to visit.

Fast forward to just after Madarame's Palace and Yusuke mentions to the thieves that there's someone he'd like to look into - Hatanaka. He and Riku had this kind of mutual understanding of what was happening to them but never really acknowledged it (they didn't know how - I planning on going into more detail another time). The thieves agree after they see her name on the Phansite (anonymous request from Riku himself). At the TV station the shujin trio actually meet Riku (he's there because Yukari or Mitsuru are giving an interview idk yet). He introduces himself after telling some creep hitting on Ann to fuck off and he's very chatty and kind UNTIL Hatanaka shows up when he becomes super quiet. The thieves are like huh that's weird we should look into this chick for sure. So they do and ofc she has a Palace.

They start investigating and they find out her palace is at her and Riku's apartment (more of a penthouse) and the keyword is Studio. The palace is called "The Studio of Arrogance" and is modeled after a TV station. Riku accidentally gets dragged in and captured by Hatanaka's goons. The thieves find Hatanaka interrogating a chained up Riku where she reveals a few things (again spoilers) and torments him. He has enough, breaks free of his chains and then BOOM Persona time.

His persona is Pimpernel, the titular character in the book The Scarlet Pimpernel. He specializes in Physical and Aqua (Water element from P2) attacks and his best stat is speed (easily the fastest thief).

Riku and the thieves fight off against her goons, and escape to a safe room where they tell Riku everything. Riku also wants to change Hatanaka's heart so he teams up with the thieves with his code name being "Noble". I have a WIP of his phantom thief outfit and Pimpernel so I won't say much about the design for now (purple Flynn rider that's the best mini description I can give 💀)

After they've beaten Hatanaka's palace and changed her heart successfully the rest of the story is pretty much the same but with Riku in it. Mitsuru, Yukari and Yuna also play big roles because the three of them move to Tokyo to stay with Riku after they find out about the abuse. They each have their own background arc too but aside from Mitsuru I don't really have any ideas for them yet (even Mitsuru's is a concept idea).

And that's pretty much his story for now at least! If there's anything specific you want to know please ask because I will literally sit here for hours and rant about him <3
