My contribution to the Toxic Chain-possessed Kieran theory is a bit macabre. As mentioned before, I think the Toxic Chain kinda acts similarly to Nihilego's venom, those afflicted lose their inhibitions, so they'll try to claim their wish by any method. It can also amplify strong emotions, like resentment towards a certain someone, those thoughts that YOU could be the strongest if that person that was stronger than you wasn't around anymore. (But for added detail, it's slower-acting, the Chain needs time to anchor into your heart, and those being influenced by it can waver between their usual personality and acting in a much more extreme manner than they usually would.)
(I was inspired by Haruka's MILGRAM songs, Weakness and All-Knowing and All Agony, tho more the videos themselves than the songs' actual topics. Tho Kieran kinda snaps himself out of it here before he goes too far.)

daemon and aegon ii have very similar attitudes and beliefs the only difference in outcome is aegon was primarily raised by an overbearing mother trapped in the feudal dystopia that is being female in westeros while daemon was primarily raised by a distant father trapped in the feudal incestual dystopia that was the targaryens under jaehaerys. in this i will--

Learning that Dan and Phil knew about all of the phandom lore and jokes is like learning Santa isn’t real. Looking back, it’s obvious and makes a lot more sense, but where’s the magic?

Messes me up that the closest we get to legitimate criticism of the idol business is the stuff that probably happened with Zero, Kujo, and Haruki as well as Takanashi, Yaotome, and Musubi. This isn't to say our current generation of i7 doesn't give us entertainment industry criticism (it obviously does), but I mean to say that, personally, the conversation between Torao and Ryu about Ryu's image was a horror story to me personally. Like, I can extrapolate the sincerity and heartwarmingness of surviving a terrible world because you have loved ones who see you for who you are AND be horrified by his acceptance of being sexualised by the media because he's an idol, right?

Quick... screenshot redraw? background study? idk, but i just wanted to do something for the sake of Doing it, instead of trying to create a finished piece. Starting a painting without intending it to be a finished piece, ironically enough helped me start it in the first place, and also get as far as it is.

It honestly baffles me how people are dunking on Sada and Turo for being shitty parents much more than I saw when Sun and Moon first came and Lusamine was first revealed to be the villain like huh 😭 where was that energy before??? Because I feel there’s more nuance with Sada and Turo’s characters and their motivations than there were with Lusamine’s (I’m talking about her in the games of course, not the anime. I will also leave discussion for what happens in Ultra Sun and Moon for another post, so I’m only talking about the plot of the original Sun and Moon here). I’m honestly just tired of all the bashing on the Professors and them being watered down to “typical shitty parent in Pokemon” when the game clearly states and implies the exact opposite.
Lusamine is very much shown to have abandoned her kids, openly berating them and saying she has no children right in front of her daughter’s face because they “abandoned her love” and going forth with her plan to open the wormholes and summon the ultra beasts with no consideration for anything else. She doesn’t have the headspace to care about her children anymore in her plan, in huge contrast to Sada/Turo’s plan where despite how extreme it was, was at the core still centered around their son and their family. I think chalking it down to just “well they’re still both bad parents anyway” takes away some of the complexity surrounding their characters in the first place. Also I’m only bringing Lusamine as a comparison mostly because Ghetsis and Giovanni do not have any other depth to their characters in the core games lmao, and I feel Lusamine is a great example of a parent who used to care but had lost that love after her husband’s “death” and along the way of achieving her goal, while Sada and Turo are examples of the complete opposite: parents who still held onto that love and care throughout their goal, but took it so far that they hurt the one person it was for the most out of everything. It really feels like people are portraying the professors’ flaws in the completely wrong way. The problem was never “they never loved their son at all and intentionally abandoned him” it was “they became so invested and deluded in their plan they ended up neglecting the treasure it was supposed to be for.” which is exactly what distinguishes them from all the other parent antagonists we’ve seen so far. There’s a certain tragedy present in seeing a broken family that used to be so happy together that I feel was also in Sun and Moon’s story, but was muddled due to the story focusing on other aspects.
And I’m going to address this right now because I know people are going to say something because they lack reading comprehension: I am not excusing Sada and Turo’s actions in the game and how their neglect had affected Arven. Explanations are not Excuses. You can acknowledge that they loved their son while still hurting him in the end, both ideas can coexist. I merely just want to analyze wtf even happened here for the professor to go down this path. And it’s also worth nothing that we don’t have much answers in the game itself as of right now, since well—the original is dead and we’re dealing with an AI version of them for the entirety of the game. Most of this is coming from the original’s journals in the lab, but I think the game makes a clear distinction that they still loved Arven even after everything. Despite their delusion taking over them, I think they genuinely believed what they were doing was the best for them and their family despite otherwise. The whole point at the end was to highlight how they didn’t need to create that paradise. They had that loving family already, and it was too late for them to realize that Arven only needed them and nothing else.
I don’t know if it’s just me, but I want the DLC to address Arven’s other parent and what exactly happened to them (or better yet, meet them in the story which would honestly be an interesting parallel where the professor of the opposite version is the one you get to know more than the original in game one). I know the in game Professor’s journal entry says they “walked out” but what does that even mean in hindsight? Keep in mind this is from the point of view of someone who’s continuously being deluded into their own idea of paradise, who most likely felt grief after their partner left them that they built an entire AI of themselves to help complete the project.
And yet they still say they’re going to build a paradise for “the three of them.” Does that mean the in game professor was also trying in some way to bring the other parent back? What if it was an accident? What if they were sent through the time machine and couldn’t go back, and the in game professor was so distraught their delusion out of sheer desperation made it so they processed it as “(s)he walked out on me, and now I’m all alone.” Of course this all a lot of speculation, but it just doesn’t make sense to me how Arven’s other parent would “leave” like that. Maybe I’m being an optimist about it, but it really does feel like it was unwillingly in some way, where the in game professor’s increasing delusion was the reason why they “left” so to speak.
And that’s not even addressing the 3rd legendary of the game and its role in all of this is. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was meant to parallel the snake/the devil in Genesis, as the sin of temptation since the professor and Area Zero have a lot of similarities with the Garden of Eden and this idea of “paradise” for their family. Where the 3rd legendary gave them the opportunity to create their paradise by giving them access to the paradox pokemon and terastalizing, and thus influenced them so much, it eventually led them down to a path of their own destruction consumed by the delusion that they could create a paradise for their family, but failed to recognize they ended up hurting the one person they treasured most in the end. If the other professor did indeed return in the DLC, maybe it would give the chance to separate themselves from their spouse and make things right with both the region and Arven. Having them be the antithesis to the other Professor’s motivation and making the choice to stay with Arven in the present would be a really cool way to wrap up the story ngl.
Anyways people who portray them as apathetic and uncaring to Arven in fan art and fics I wish you a very “play the fucking game again please”. Even their character design sheets say otherwise, especially with Sada like I cannot imagine the woman described as “not being able to hide her emotions well” would be a cold and uncaring mother like come on 💀 I played Violet for crying out loud and I’m still able to recognize that.

Question. Hypothetically, if your ex-boyfriend (who you broke up with 1 1/2 years ago) texts you after not texting you since September, what would you do? Hypothetically. (Asking for a friend)
Depends on what he's saying, I guess? And depends on how we broke things off too.
(but I'm like... Pretty weird about relationships, romantic ones I mean, but that's a whole another story haha)

your tags on the reblog of that sv music made this come to mind: i love the main area zero music because to me it sounds like something that would be SO at home in a pmd game, it feels like it would be perfect for a late game pmd area. would love to hear your thoughts on that, id love to hear if another sv + pmd enjoyer might agree :3
WAIT YOU'RE ACTUALLY SO RIGHT.... like i can totally see area zero being its own dungeon too (if it weren't already a main series area ofc). like imagine you explore this dungeon that's considered to be extremely dangerous, moreso than most other dungeons, and you go inside and you see so many pokemon that look oddly familiar but clearly aren't the same as the pokemon you consider to be your friends and neighbours. gen 9 pmd game when wtf!!!!!

im so fucking mad about capitalism's devaluation of manual labor (especially financial, hi raise the fucking wages) and expectation to outsource labor, leading to dire exploitation (everyone is exploited, but manual workers especially AND don't get compensated for the toll on their body AND get looked down on unlike white collar workers, all that because making intellectual products is worth 10 times more money i fucking guess). The average person used to have so many more practicak skills and we used to know how make so much more stuff, having people cook, clean, take care of your children and sew for you was the height of luxury for a wealthy woman, depending so much on buying to substain your lifestyle was reserved to the extremely wealthy. People were expected to hold more basic skills outside of a hyperspecific field of their career like today and were allowed to spend time on broad and practical knowledge, and today schools do not even out the playing field because it's still mostly theoric regurgitation (which great, but give all the youngsters a cooking, crafting and sewing class and teach them accounting im begging) making people into highly specific tools relying on buying most of what they don't even think they can make, because disempowered. (this is linked to capitalist shaming of perceived failure and beginners and imperfection but that's a whole other can of worms)
Like for example it was just a given painters made their own paint (or started by making it for their mentor, any way they were taught how), it was considered a necessary first step, a way to understand your medium, and a way no to depend on anyone else or a corporation, and i think a lot of artists are missing that step of having to spend effort on the medium itself. I don't know how my graphic tablet works and i can't make acrylic paint and that's a shame
Like it was always normal for the already rich to leave all physical work to exploited workers but today it's everyone else's case too (at least in the economic north), making your own stuff is a counterculture thing, and even poverty or being an exploited worker eats so much of time that it makes it so buying is necessary and stuff made with exploited labor the only affordable option, fucking vicious cycle
there were deep inequalities with how the teaching of those skills were segregated, which was for which gender and social class, im not saying it was universally good, and women were expected to accumulate way more skills just to do all the managing of a household AND get that labor devalued, just, urgh, it was considered important to know at least i guess
also the birth of packaging and the rise of single use plastic+ worldwide transport of goods is heavily linked to this and a consequence of a global economic boom but it's still a fucking disaster-
anyways buy a s little new shit in as little packaging as you can and fuck corporations

i love new york so much. separated by hundreds and hundreds of miles, no matter where i go, i can always be guaranteed to see a random "I ❤️ NY" decal on the side of a major highway
#brot posts#made the trek back to the island today after spending most of the week upstate with my grandparents#several hundred miles between their house and mine and i saw no fewer than 3 'I ❤️ NY' decals#and i know of a few on long island itself as well#and you know what? they're right. i do love new york#i feel zero patriotism for the United States as the nation i live in but by god am i such a rabid New Yorker#especially long islander#the pure relief i felt . several hours into my trip back home. going through the outskirts of nyc#and about merge onto the long island expressway. seeing the road sign with the giant arrow labeled 'LONG ISLAND' was so like#so utterly relieving i was just like :DDD LONG ISLAND !!! MY HOMMEEEE#i hate this place but also i love it . i cant ever leave. i most likely will have to bc its so fucking expensive but like#i will forever mourn leaving and a part of me will always belong here#i enjoyed the trip upstate and it definitely endeared me even more to ny state as a whole; but like#the pure relief of going to scattered suburbs around tiny 'cities'#suburbs that looked almost like those from home.. except for the fact they puttered out to pure rural communities within like 5 miles#going from THAT to the nyc area... having a /real/ city in the distance.. and having the surrounding suburbs stretch#for as wide as you could see... horizon to horizon.... and knowing the entire island is just one giant suburb#like yknow its annoying and kinda terrible that this place is so homogenous#but also . its relieving. like its my home. i live here. its what im used to#having a normal suburb that disappears to a void with population 5 within a 3 minute drive is so frightening. where is everyone....#and how do you call this thing a 'city' if there's only like five buildings with more than seven stories..........#sorry . im so nyc metro area pilled. i cant consider anything a city unless its steel skyscrapers with 100+ stories and busy traffic#and thousands of pedestrians rushing about at any given time#and how do you call this thing a suburb if there's only ten houses on a single street. why are your yards so big. where are the fences
