Pros of dating Margaret in RF4 - she's very cute and sweet and all around lovely. She's also the only girl to get a skill exclusive to romancing her, and it is BUSTED. Her healing rainbow wave is the best support move in the game, IMO.
Cons of dating Margaret in RF4 - Unless you get obscenely lucky or choose to save scum a lot, you will NEVER be able to marry her.
#rune factory#rf4#rf4 margaret#to be clear this is a SLIGHT exaggeration. eventually you'll get her FOUR required events. but...#expect it to take so long that there is virtually NOTHING left to do in the game#you can EASILY beat rune prana AND do all the eliza requests before being able to marry margaret#and at that point what is left? trying to gold crown all shipment stuff? that's SO tedious and NOT fun#at that point i can't find the motivation to keep playing and just want to start over#fun fact on my FIRST playthrough of the game - before i knew how everything worked - i dated margaret#i fell in love with her almost instantly and get her 'thoughts lost in the lake' event very early on#we were like 3-4 FP level so it felt like the natural and organic point to switch to calling her Meg#and THEN i got her mini-event right before confessing (successfully! on the first try!) at 7#so not only was i REALLY digging her but the game had given me these lovely coincidences to make it feel RIGHT#it just felt so natural and real to date her and i was so excited to eventually marry her#but then. BUT THEN. literal YEARS passed in game. so many dates. affection WELL PAST 10 hearts.#but her other 3 events eluded me. i got ONE eventually. but my patience ran out.#i didn't necessarily want to be a cheater but i knew the game allowed me to date multiple people with no repercussions#so i started confessing to the other girls. at first just clorica since she was my second fave at the time...#but then xiao pai as well since clorica was NOT biting and i could only take so many platonic just friendsly 'i love you too's#i ended up dating xiao pai 2nd and she was the first person i married. and she's probably my favorite girl now#but i kept a save file where i rejected her because i still held out hope for margaret#in the meantime i decided to go for as much content as possible and aimed to date/marry ALL the girls#and let me tell you - i SUCCEEDED. in ONE file where i initially JUST wanted to marry margaret...#i ended up dating and marrying EVERY OTHER GIRL first. and i STILL never got all the events i needed before finally giving up#i like margaret a lot but marrying her is SUCH a pain. on my recent NEW file i got lucky and got 3 of her events in a single year#so my hopes are up and i chose to date her again. but in my mind and heart i know - i FEAR - her final event will just never proc#anyway take it from me - she's a trap. unless you have the patience of a SAINT you should pursue literally anyone else#thank god none of the dudes cause me similar issues

I apologize in advance, but the brainworms did a heckin screech and I felt the need to share the chaos.
Imagine, if you will, that our Creator let's it slip that they've interacted with other worlds before reaching Teyvat. (Played other video games) Imagine having to explain that in these other worlds, they may or may not have been interested in the denizens of those realms...sometimes in the romantic sense, which led to wedding bells and/or children.
Cue the uproar from the Genshin cast. The Creator, Blessed Maker of All...you have courted others? Have been married?? You have had children??? Their image of you being pure and untouchable, blown apart into tiny little pieces of confetti. 🎉
Though many loathe to admit it, they are curious...who are these people, what are they like? Is there a common factor in your selection of spouses? You would only pick the very best of a realm to choose as a potential partner, surely another being of creation...or perhaps a demigod?
It leads to the proverbial red string board getting made, the Archons trying to find out who is your most likely pick from their regions. It's all for your safety, your Benevolence! If you insist on having a partner, they must find the perfect match for you! You deserve only the best of the best, after all.
Bonus points if the Creator was a fan of games like the Harvest Moon/Rune Factory series. They're gonna need to make a list of all their partners, there are so many options to choose from. >>_>>
I'll admit I never played any of those games so I skimmed through the harvest moon wiki and chose one of the bachelors and chose some other game characters lol. Plus a game for all of you, guess the characters.
Though I do think that the reader having children before causes a bit of whiplash because it's totally unexpected, mostly because there were no records of you taking spouses or kids, even knowing you ‘have’ (play) other worlds is a surprise that causes a bit of a crisis. Either way here are some head cannons.
“I must admit, your grace is awfully attached to Qiqi” Zhongli hums as he blows on his white tea, a small cloud of steam leaving.
Qiqi doesn't pay him much mind, her head coddled under your chin like a little puppy, between her hands there is a small bird plushie “Well, I must admit she does kind of remind me of one of my little ones” Your hand softly pats her head, a few strands of hair moving as you do.
He stills as you spoke, eyes fixated on his cup “your… little ones?”
“Mhm?” Without looking up from the braid you were giving to the little girl you just nod “yep, she is quite soft spoken like Milenoe”
“... I wasn't aware your grace had sired children” there was never any mentions about holy spawns or spouses taken by you in any manuscript he got his hands on.
“Well, I never chose a couple from this world, so there wouldn't be any descendants” the comment slips airly from your lips as Qiqi slides off your lap towards baizhu who had finished checking the books from your bookshelf. “Do you want to see her? She started elementary school a few weeks ago” without waiting for an answer a screen appears displaying a tall man with black hair and horns standing regally behind you and a child with emerald eyes and horns.
“She looks rather shy”
You hum nodding “she is as shy as her father when he was her age. There aren't many children her age she can play with so she was pretty lonely her first 50 years”
“50 years?”
“her dad is a slow maturing species” so it should be 10 times the life expectancy than humans. Not that long for him but certainly longer than usual.
•°•°•
“It's a wonder to see how you manage to get Klee to change her mind about going fish blasting,” albedo scribbles some data half mindedly as he watches you hover next to Klee, who showed you a new drawings every few minutes “she is so stubborn even with Alice”
“Well I do have experience with headstrong children, Pardine is as focused on her goal as her father” one of your hands fall on her blonde hair, bright but still darker than Pardine’s almost champagne blonde and her red eyes polar opposite to her icy ones, a carbon copy to her dad. Even if your genetics rarely showed up on any of your kids it was uncanny how similar she looked to her dad and aunts “but I will admit she does annoy many guards asking to train her”
Albedo just laughs it off, listing the few loose characteristics of one of her spouses. Venti has been annoying him about his nation almost getting no information so he hopes a few spare tidbits and Klee’s rough drawing of a blond blue eyed man with a big shield works for whatever weird thing the archons have going on.
•°•°•
“Your Grace has married before?!” Ayaka gasps as you take a stroll around the nature surrounding her home. Her hand had swiftly unfolded her fan in front of her face.
“Mhm, I don't know why people get so surprised, after all it would be weirder if I spent so much time somewhere but took no lovers” you laugh at her slightly seeing her slightly flustered “it's almost a tradition at this point, to wed someone from each world. Want to see some family portraits?” She nods fervently looking at the tablet like thing that appeared on your hands, first a white haired cowboy like man is kneeling on the ground holding a baby by the armpits surrounded by three wolves ,seemingly playing with an older child, by the time the next imagine passes Ayaka is almost hanging by your shoulder, asking things about the siblings and begging to see more photos of your babies.
“And who did you take from teyvat?” Ayaka looks up sweetly at you, she has always held you in high regard and now that you are in Inazuma she can't help but get giddy thinking about how you decided to spend the stay in her state and most of your time with her.
Feigning surprise you tap your chin with your index finger “now that I think about it I didn't choose anyone yet... maybe it's about time”
“Then that means you could pick my brother!” She wraps her hand around your own, smiling as if she got the best idea ever “I could even call you older sibling!... If you wanted so of course”
“Big brother you remember how you told me you would find me a proper bachelor”
“If this is about wanting me to rush it won't work”
“It's not about it, I found you someone”
“Fine, as you please, need I remind you my standards are quite high”
“It's their grace!... Why are you choking on your tea!?”
•°•°•
“There isn't one damned coincidence…” Raiden slaps her head against the table with the rough drawings and some information about them “a king, a captain, a cowboy, a damned sorcerer…”
“Maybe there isn't supposed to be a coincidence” Nahida guesses “maybe they just look for someone who catches their eye”
“It doesn't help out as much as you think it does” the tsaritsa crosses her legs and leans against the back of the chair “if we are doing people with very clear characteristics maybe Ajax could fit nicely? Redheads aren't very common”
“Mhm, maybe but don't they have a liking for smart men? Then Alhaitham would be closer to their past couples”
“Well if we are going by that logic they should like the geo archon, as one of them has dragonic features” the tsaritsa side eyes Zhongli from the other side of the table.
Sighing deeply Furina, who came in place of Neuvillette, chimes in “It is their decision who they want to marry and even if they wanted to!”
"obviously you would be so calm, after all they are very close with your iudex. Don't get so cocky, I heard the commissioner Ayato is interested in the idea"

Rating Rune Factory Children
(Because I play favorites)
Rune Factory (1)
1/10
Cute but not much else to say. You have to wait a ridiculous amount of in-game time to get one short cutscene meeting your genderless nameless child (Game doesn't even bother to give them pronouns) and then never get to interact with them again. Disappointing.
Tumblr media
Rune Factory 2
8/10
A unique idea that the series has yet to implement again, this game let you play through the second half of the game AS your child from the first half, and honestly It was a cool concept even if the gameplay got a little wonky and unbalanced near the end. The game also introduced the first female protagonist to the series, Aria (left). She and her twin Aaron (right) actually had some personality of their own and even had unique interactions with the other villagers and children of the town. Cool concept and solid designs. I just wish you could interact with them a little more as a parent before the timeskip.
Tumblr media
Rune Factory Frontier
7/10
I may be a little biased here, as this was my intro to Rune Factory, but I love these kids. Default names; Leif and Leona, are the first, and so far only, RF children you can interact with at multiple stages, these kids have several cutscenes documenting different milestones and are quite cute to watch. Once they reach the final stage, they don't do much besides toddle around the farm and look cute. You can gift them certain items but that's about it. Still, It's refreshing to watch your kid grow over time as apposed to the usual montage you get with RF kids.
Tumblr media
Rune Factory 3/ Rune Factory 3 Special
3/10
They get bonus points for being the first in the series to let you have multiple kids (up to three) problem is, there's not much difference between em. The birth of each one plays about the same and while there's technically some different "personalities" it's more like each kid get a random lot of four or so unique lines of dialogue and that's it. There are also just the two sprites so if you have two or more of either gender they'll be identical, no matter the age difference. You can't gift them and they don't sleep, leave the house or even show up on the map. Honestly they're little more than cute house accessories.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rune Factory Tides of Destiny/ Rune Factory Oceans
4/10
First off, please pardon the crappy quality. This game doesn't have traditional character portraits so it's hard to find decent quality pics. Tides of Destiny kiddos were the first in the series to inherit physical features from the player's spouse. (Pictured are Electra's daughter and Sonja's son) They appear to use the same child models as Frontier with some minor cosmetic changes but I liked Frontier's kids so no complaints there. I do wish they had real portraits and more dialogue but they're okay. At least they'll accept gifts and the events leading up to their births are quite wholesome.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rune Factory 4/Rune Factory 4 Special
9/10
RF4's kids are darn near perfect. Luna and Noel have identical dialogue but they have more to say than any RF kids before or possibly since. There are TONS of unique exchanges and events with them, they participate in festivals, and most interesting of all, you can equip them with gear and take them adventuring! These babies are really something special. If I had to pick one complaint, I'd say I wish they looked liiiittle more like their concept art. They look like they both got aged up a little, which isn't bad but they do look barely younger than some of their possible parents...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rune Factory 5
9.5/10
Rune Factory 5's children are right up there with Noel and Luna, but they get a slight advantage when it comes to customization. Like RF3 this game lets you have up to three kids, but unlike that game, these kiddos are treated like actual characters. Depending on your choice of spouse and your answers in a particular conversation, your kids can have a variety of looks and personalities, including the fan favorite feature of inheriting hair and eye colors from the spouse, and continuing along that customization train, these babies can once again go adventuring! My one, one small gripe...It'd be nice if your eldest could grow a little by the time their siblings are born. Heck, it'd be cool if the villagers kids could grow too. I'd love to see teenaged Julian and Hina~
Tumblr media
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So there's my thoughts on the Rune Factory children. I hope future installments continue the trend of more giving their kids more personality and better customization, maybe someday we'll even see kiddos inherit traits from non-human parents? How cool would that be if your kid could actually look half elf or mermaid or furry wereanimal? XD
If you agree with me (or strongly disagree) feel free to comment. Always up for discussing my favorite franchise~
I was looking for blank art memes/templates for Rune Factory, and this is the first post that pops up when the search results are sorted by popularity.
My, such new news: Video game for kids has marriage candidates that may appeal to kids, as well as other older-looking marriage candidates to appeal to older players. Shock horror!
Reddit is also full of these idiots who accuse the creators/publishers of the games of horrible things. So full of that racist "but it's from Japan where this thing is seen as normal, so for them it's not as creepy as for us" crap.
If it's that terrible to them and they truly believe the creators/publishers are horrifying people, why don't they just boycott the series then? Oooh right, because they're the only ones who are able to play it ~critically~ unlike all those evil gross horrifying people, like those terrible children who traumatize themselves and normalize horrible shit by choosing those oh-sooo disgustingly designed marriage candidates because they appeal to them. Lmao.
Why are modern farming games getting rid of festivals?
The latest story of seasons, Pioneers of Olive Town (I'm not including the remakes cause they're remakes. Also Friends of Mineral Town actually has festivals), Stardew Valley and Coral Island have two festivals per season. It's ridiculous. I don't have Winds of Anthos but I hear it only has four total
I liked the festivals. I wanna see more festivals.
I'm using Back to Nature as my baseline cause it was my first. But they fit in about 18 festivals. And about 8 of them were romantic in nature or at least involved some kind of couple activity
Which brings me to my next point. Where are the romantic festivals? Half of the Olive Town festivals have you doing something with your partner so fine but last I checked Stardew Valley just has the dance. And I haven't seen the last festival in Coral Island yet but so far none of them have involved dates.
I'm referring to BtN again but give us the Spring Harmony Festival! I don't care if you call it Valentine's Day I want a day to give out chocolate. The Starry Night festival. Moon viewing.
Is it because festivals that just involve dialouge are considered boring now? There has to be some kind of mini game attached? I don't know I'm just spitballing. I'm loving Coral Island but the festivals don't all need minigames
I loved the goddess festival in BtN. I loved seeing them in their pretty dresses and then going out on a date afterwards. I loved it in the girl version where I actually got to dance with them (also off topic but Gotz giving you his wife's dress was the sweetest scene and I really wish I still had my psp so I could see it again).
Rune Factory 5 has it's problems but it still manages to have a good mix of activity and dialouge festivals with about 22 or so in total
Sorry, I'm all over the place.
Point is, I want more festivals in farming games. And I want more romantic festivals
Top ten favorite Orcs? Either specific characters or a given setting’s take on the species as a whole.
I'm not sure I have enough strong feelings about Orcs to really make an interesting list of ten, but what the hell I'll try.
Tolkien's orcs - not just LOTR orcs, but specifically orcs as written by J.R.R. Tolkien - are pretty high up there for me. I've probably mentioned this more than enough on this blog, but I'm still moved by the moment in The Lord of the Rings where we get this conversation between two orcs when their bosses aren't around, where both of them commiserate with each other about how shitty being drafted into Sauron's war is, how they long to go back to their simpler life as mountain bandits, and how, maybe, if they could find a way to escape being caught by their superiors, they could run off and find someplace far from the war to settle down together. Their names are Shagrat and Gorbag, and later in the book one of the heroes finds them among a pile of dead orcs, their dream of a simpler life tragically unfulfilled. I bring this up because, for all the flak Tolkien's cosmology gets for codifying the fantasy trope of "Always Chaotic Evil" races, there's a lot more moral complexity to his "evil" races than most people think. The orcs we meet in his stories are universally pretty nasty people - even Gorbag and Shagrat can't conceive of a simple life that doesn't involve killing people for their valuables - but it's very clear this is a result of the culture they are living in, which, if you get nerdy and read up on the Lore (TM), is one that has been specifically designed by the Middle Earth equivalent of Satan to turn all living things in it into tools of warfare - a world that exists solely to serve as a vast machine of industrialized conquest and mass murder. And it makes them miserable. Orcs don't like living this way, even though it's the only way they know how to live. They are at once victim and villain, and that's explicitly the canon way to look at them in the text. So it kind of sucks that their reputation in pop culture - and how they're presented in most adaptations, including good ol' PJ's film trilogy - is as one-dimensional evil henchmen, because they do have more going on than that in the books themselves, and it enriches the themes of the story when those dimensions are included.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The orcs in Rune Factory are probably my favorite from a design standpoint. I'm kind of neutral at best with the standard "green skinned humans with optional tusks" look of most orcs. There's nothing wrong with it, but it doesn't thrill me either, existing in the same nebulous space as, like, traditional fantasy elves, dwarves, and hobbit expies - I understand why they're classics, but they feel kind of boring when you've got other options on the table. So seeing these guys when I booted up my first Rune Factory game was a revelation - finally, orcs that look INTERESTING! And they're so cute, these gnarly little Jim Hensen/Brian Froud style pig people. And they'll help you water your plants! A+ Tier orcs as far as I'm concerned.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dungeon Meshi found a good middle ground between "gnarly boar people" and "humans with tusks" that I really like, and while the orcs aren't given a whole lot of focus, what world building we do get about them is pretty great, taking a lot of the classic orc tropes and giving them that Ryoko Kui caliber thought and detail that makes them so wonderful.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What else... well, ok, my brain still categorizes these guys as "goblins" rather than "orcs," but since the two are more or less synonymized in both Tolkien and the Rankin Bass adaptations of his work, I guess I can include them. They're one of my favorite designs for goblins of all time, and since I generally like goblins more than orcs, I guess this makes them my favorite orc design by default? I just love them, nasty little toad people.
youtube
The 1980 Return of the King movie in particular is one of the few adaptations that keeps Tolkien's sympathy for the orcs in tact, with Frodo even having a dream sequence about living in a world where his run in with orcs is fully pleasant, each of them waving at each other as they cross paths, content to share a beautiful world together.
youtube
And while it adapts the parts of the text that take place after the deaths of poor Shagrat and Gorbag, it still manages to work in a moment where the orcs lament their lot in life by way of the infamous "Where There's a Whip There's a Way" song written just for the film. I know this song is generally viewed as "bad" and corny and whatever, fuck that, I unironically love it. It's my wakeup alarm for workdays. I am these orcs five days out of the week.
What else...
youtube
So, like, kind of a cheat I suppose, but the Darkspawn in Dragon Age take a lot of cues from Tolkien's take on orcs, right down to seeming like they're just always chaotic evil at first glance, and also being the product of Supernatural Crimes Against Nature by semi-divine powers. And indeed, in Dragon Age Origins you're basically given no reason to view them as anything but evil obstacles to destroy, especially when you learn the body-horror involved in how they reproduce (it's more in the vein of Slither than Goblin Slayer, for those unaware - grotesque but, thankfully, not in that way).
But the big ol' DLC for the same game, called Dragon Age Awakening, throws a big monkey wrench in that view of them. We meet Darkspawn who are capable of speech - ones that have been broken free of the evil hivemind their species is ruled by, and, like freed borg drones, are now at a loss of what to do with themselves. They are, like Tolkien's orcs before them, a people who were made for war and violence, and yet still crave something more than that when given the chance to think about it. It's something that hasn't been followed up on much since, sadly, but it's a damn cool take.
What else...
youtube
I'm probably the only person who still remembers this movie, especially with any fondness, but I liked the orcs in the Warcraft movie directed by David Bowie's son. They were given a lot of nuance and I honestly think their parts of the film were by the far the best. Actually I remember liking that movie a lot despite some of its pacing issues, I should revisit it.
Ok that's not ten takes but I feel like there are at least 10 designs on display here so I'm calling this done.
why YOU should play rf4!!!!
yes! you!! stardew valley player and/or person who had harvest moon on the ds as a kid and/or the person who is in any way, shape, or form a stereotypical tumblr user!!!!
please let me introduce one of my favourite games ever; rune factory four!!!
Tumblr media
the short explanation is that it's half farming sim, half actual plot. the game is split into, in total, three acts: act one, the first half of the plot; act two, the finale; and act three, which has more plot too but the game is considered completed after act two.
the plot is, basically, that you are an acting prince/princess of a town while you try to get your memories back. the whole thing is a lot more complex than that but spoilers, and it made me cry a couple times. very emotional lol.
see also:
your roommate is a dragon! just a full talking dragon. her name is venti and she's very sweet <3
lots of different characters! each character has a unique personality and there are a few common tropes, like "rude and brash but secretly soft and shy", or "bright and happy to cover up dark feelings", or "flirts as a coping mechanism", among others.
it's partially voice acted! some recognisable names are matthew mercer (as leon), yuri lowenthal (as doug), and wendee lee (as lin fa/venti)!
different dynamics, especially found family! only two pairs of people are actually related, while every other family was formed some other way! it makes for some very heartwarming events. aside from familial dynamics, there's rivalries, a ghost and her familiar, roommates, etc.!
lots of unique dialogue! iirc you can get through over two in-game years without any repeating dialogue! each one has a lot to say and it all feels natural to the character.
it's super fun! it doesn't feel very repetitive, every area has its own secrets and special features to it, making everything fun to explore.
please. i've consumed every bit of fan content there is. i'm desperate for more.
Actually, going back to yesterday's topic of TMNT 2003 and it's lack of romantic subplots with the turtles themselves, I think this is the part where I mention that TMNT 2003 actually came into my life at just the perfect time?
So a little over a year ago, I ended my first serious relationship as an adult. I don't like talking about my ex too much even now, but we were together for over five years and after the break up, the next several months were spent stewing in a boiling pot of rage, sadness, and regret. I wanna say all my negative feelings towards my ex and our relationship peaked during May - July 2023 and didn't simmer down until around autumn, which coincidentally was about when I started watching TMNT 2003. (I'm also convinced that a lot of the stress from the breakup led to some of the minor-yet-concerning health problems I've been dealing with over the last several months, but I have no way of proving that.)
One of the big problems is that, at the time I broke up with my ex, I tended to watch/play a lot of romance-focused media. Under normal circumstances, I'd still be able to regularly engage with a lot of the shows and video games I normally do without being becoming a bitter ball of anguish. Unfortunately, within a couple of months of breaking up with ex, games I used to love like Rune Factory 4 Special or shows like Snow White with the Red Hair became absolutely unbearable play/watch because of all the negative feelings I had towards my ex. If a love interest wasn't reminding me of my ex with certain...behaviors, I was looking at a relationship onscreen and thinking to myself "Why couldn't we be like that?" It was a nightmare.
Fast forward (lmao) to... god, when did I start watching TMNT 2003? I wanna say I started watching it either late August or early September? The pipeline of how I ended up watching TMNT 2003 is a weird one, but there were a couple of things that stuck out to me when I first started watching it. For starters, even though it was a Western cartoon, there were certain quirks about it that reminded me of the anime I usually watch (namely the fight choreography and being so heavily plot-focused rather than episodic in its storytelling) and I found myself gravitating towards it because of that alone. And I just love the characters. The turtles themselves are incredibly well-rounded with their own strengths and flaws, and the supporting cast and antagonists make the world feel very alive and lived-in. (I personally can't get over how half the time the turtles aren't even attempting to get into trouble; they usually just end up walking into the plot of the week purely by accident.)
Tumblr media
But besides that, as I mentioned in my other post, even though there are a couple of romantic subplots in the show, most notably the April/Casey one that spans pretty much the entire series, the turtles themselves never end up entering a serious relationship with anyone. The closest we ever get to romance with one of the turtles is Don's one-sided crush on April, which was never going to go anywhere on account of her being an adult and ending up with Casey, and I wanna say the crush is almost entirely dropped by midway through Season 3. Beyond that, the turtles are never shown becoming physically attracted to anyone and all their important relationships--Splinter, April, Casey, Klunk, Leatherhead, Honeycutt, Sydney, Angel, the Professor, the Justice Force, Traximus, the Daimyo, Usagi, Gen, Renet, the Ancient One, the Acolytes, Cody, Serling, and Starlee--are all strictly platonic. And you know what? That's okay by my book.
It is a fact that society regularly insists that the key to happiness is finding your One True Love and places more emphasis on romantic relationships than platonic ones. I personally don't want to die alone, but at this point in my life, I don't need a romantic relationship to be happy--in fact, I think being in a relationship would just complicate things when I'm still getting my shit together as is. When you look at Leo, Raph, Don, and Mikey within the context 2003, I cannot recall a single moment where one of them complains about how their status as a one-of-a-kind mutant turtle means they'll probably never land a partner and as far as I can tell, they seem perfectly happy as is. They have each other, they have Splinter, April and Casey are there too, Klunk, all their other friends--really, what would giving one of the boys a love interest do for them? The answer; not all that much, honestly. In fact, I feel like the risk of giving any of the 2003 turtles a love interest far outweighs the reward.
Now, mind you, I don't think it's impossible to give one of the 2003 turtles a serious love interest--in fact, I have a lot of thoughts about how it could be done right--and that it actually would be something worth exploring in a reboot/sequel series that'll likely never happen, but again, I don't think that TMNT 2003 suffers for the lack of turtle romances and is perfectly fine as is. 2003!Leo, Raph, Don, and Mikey are very lovable characters and are able to have fulfilling relationships without any of them being romantic in nature and I think that's a good message to send to people, whether you're a young kid or a grown adult. Romance is great, but so is a crushing bear hug from your three brothers, your rat dad, and the two humans you adopted.
IDEA
Disclaimer: Fantasy Life (a 3ds game) is relatively unknown and I doubt that you know it. If you do, tell me please I have put 164 hours into this game and have no friends who know it. If you don’t, just ignore this ask, the story and game are complicated and don’t waste your time trying to figure it out for a tumblr ask. Backup question: what’s your favorite dinosaur?
Now, Fantasy Life idea:
Desmond AND Altair, Ezio, and Ratonhnhaké:ton all wake up in Fantasy Life in the place of the pov main character.
I think Altaïr would go for an Alchemist life before pivoting to do all the crafting ones. Get level 15 dagger skill so fast tho.
Ratonhnhaké:ton i think would initially go for Hunter life but mayyyybe the Wizard life would draw him in. He’d also be the most well rounded in terms of weapons even if he thinks it’s bullshit he can’t use a high level sword and shield.
Ezio im honestly not sure about. He might go for Paladin for the weapon style but I could honestly see him wanting to be a gatherer life instead. Or maybe a crafter.
Next to Ezio, Desmond would still probably switch the most. I have zero clue what he’d choose first he’d probably choose something out of panic at first and end up an Angler or smth lol.
During the story: Ezio tries and fails repeatedly to woo Yuelia, you can’t change my mind. Desmond finds it hilarious that he died due to problems with the Sun and now he’s having problems with the Moon. Altaïr is somehow the one keeping them all on track but also is the highest leveled in any and all of the skills he’s focusing on. Somehow, some way, impossibly, Altair makes a philosophers stone before they even make it to Al Maajik. Ezio is thrilled when he sees the Azure Rose and Rose Shield and uses them even if he has access to better weaponry. Ratonhnhaké:ton gets a dog from all three regions. Desmond immediately realizes they need the home in the Shopping District to hold all their stuff. Desmond unlocks the majority of the Bliss. Desmond at some point becomes a Cook. At least for a little bit.
I’ve got more but I think that’s enough.
I did not know about this but, considering it’s a Level 5 game, I am not surprised. Level 5 games tend to go under the radar with word of mouth being their best source of publicity (unless you get a super hit like Ni no Kuni).
It does remind me of Rune Factory a bit though. I would have tried it but the 3DS shop is already down. Oh, there’s going to be a new game for the Switch though, apparently, so we’ll see XD
I think you’re spot on with their life choices, especially Altaïr. He looks like the type of person who would craft lots of bombs and chuck them all to the enemies with his team wondering if this is Altaïr’s way of destressing and if they should be worried? Altaïr would probably try out Blacksmith too considering he did reworked the Hidden Blade and created the Hidden Gun. Did he recreate them in this world as well? Yeah, probably. It’s Altaïr.
No notes for Ratonhnhaké:ton, could totally see him going for Hunter first before branching out to check the other lives just to get a feel if any of them would be interesting in his eyes.
Ezio would go for Paladin at the start until he realized that he didn’t have to focus on fighting anymore. Sure there was the whole ‘the world is in trouble’ plot going on but he’s not alone in this and they have allies they can rely on. Ezio would change to something more chill like a Woodcutter, Angler or Tailor. He’s trying out the more chill lives to see which one he would enjoy and he’s happy that being a Farmer isn’t an option because he believes farming would just remind him of how much he misses his family.
Desmond would pick Mercenary first because Ezio had already picked Paladin and Ratonhnhaké:ton picked Hunter so he thought he’d pick the last remaining combat class. He doesn’t know magic so he didn’t pick Wizard. Also, he expected Altaïr to pick Wizard and Altaïr picking Alchemist is what made Desmond slowly start to realize the same as Ezio, that he doesn’t have to pick a ‘combat’ life. Sure, the first time he started to cook was when Altaïr invented protein bars (wtf) and Desmond needed to put his foot down because he is not going to eat protein bars for the rest of his life (Ezio was still in his Paladin phase). The reason why Ezio didn’t pick Cook is because Desmond eventually settled on a Cook life because he enjoyed cooking. There’s a kind of control in it that he didn’t have before and, also, this way, he can be sure his ancestors actually eat (especially Altaïr who tend to forget he needs to eat when he’s in a middle of experimenting).
I feel like in the end of this entire thing, Altaïr would have managed to recreate an Apple of Eden (which he just throws at Desmond because Desmond is a cook. Desmond is offended and wanted to hit Altaïr with his frying pan) and the Armor of Altaïr (which he gives to both Ratonhnhaké:ton and Ezio).
(Feel free to add more. I read TvTropes for this one hahahaha)
(I think it would be Archaeopteryx mainly because they’re supposedly around the size of a magpie and looks like the midway point of a dinosaur and bird looks like.)
ok happy wip wmonday this is mostly rune factory ft. one (1) romijuli. most of these did not escape the sketch phase (and the two that did... did not get far, as pictured) but they're all things i had intent to complete at some point.
commentary is below the cut if anyone is curious about my thoughts on anything i've drawn here
for piece commentary..... well first off i also had a shara/sofia sketch that got corrupted bc sai loves doing that at random and it's part of why i want to move away from using it :-( second off
(drops to my knees) PLEASEP PLEASE PLEASE.... CONSIDER PIA/RAVEN..... PLEEEEEEEASE oh the things i could say about those two regarding their own isolation / alienation due to being nonhuman and how despite the fact they've both found a place for themselves they still feel Othered and Lonely at the core. i think they could work on that together once raven gets out of her shell a little bit. the meeting of sea and sky. fire and water. please understand. (the one w raven in bird form is actually even based on the caelum et ocean story set from love nikki bc it made me think of them LOL)
dolce/forte is also like... please consider them. there's something really funny about the knight who's afraid of ghosts and the ghost whisperer. but i also think they have really compatible personalities and forte's generally headstrong nature could go well with dolce's quieter way of doing things. i think dolce would find flustering her funny. but not in like... a harassing way. just in a way where she knows how to make her blush a little bit. i like them
romijuli..... well you see (i open my mouth and begin screaming) (i do not stop screaming) (if you listen closely enough you can detect a garbled string of sounds that loosely translates to 'READ PERFORMANCE')
for the 5 doodles.... priscilla ended up being my favourite rf5 girl to my immense surprise LOL so i developed a habit of sketching her a lot in 2022. fat priscilla. please understand. reblog. i also really liked priscilla/lucy at first bc they're like... obvious, and while my interest in them waned for various reasons (one being a lamentation that they'd become The One Femslash Pairing^tm of the game where people don't really consider anything else bc they have that one...) i still like that doodle.
and lastly. ray and alicia r my favourite sibling steup in all of rf and i think they're both transgender. i hope this helps. (idk solidly what direction i see ray as trans in but whatever the case. ray is not cis to me. love and light)
Okay slapping together a bunch of assorted Pawn Lovers Guild QOTDs for archival purposes X'D
How do your Arisen & Pawn handle alcohol?
Reverie is kind of wary of the stuff starting out, she's already got a hazy head and that just feels dangerous, but as she starts to get more comfortable she will occasionally have a drink or two with friends, but rarely more than that. Though once or twice she did go drunk ""complaining"" to Klaus about Rann (Klaus and his poor unrequited love listening to her obviously crushing on her frustratingly charming Pawn) Rann is also a bit more reluctant, he likes to keep a clear head, but he'll sip slowly on a mug or two while the Arisen takes care of their business (or social calls). It doesn't… seem… like it has much effect on him? He generally has a pretty high tolerance but There Will Be Signs. The occasional "I swear to drunk I'm not god." verbal slip-up. A sudden bout of clumsiness. Not that he's particularly austere normally, but he'll smile and laugh more openly. Might even tease a little (in a sort of big brotherly way) P much opposites of Rev and Rann, Olivia and Emrys… they do enjoy their drink. Olivia slightly more, but she's… she's so bad. Like, the girl does not know her limit (which is fairly mid-high but she will drink herself into a ditch). She's just having too much fun! Very friendly and not a mean or angry or sad drunk or anything like that generally speaking, but definitely inclined to perhaps accidentally get into more bar fights or ending the night running from the guards. More often Emrys has to carry her (flailing, singing terribly) back home as he debates just dropping her. ^^ Emrys is similarly jovial, and only slightly knows his limits better than her. Just enough to be the one responsible for steering their comical staggering walk back home. Though he begrudges it a bit, you can count on him to be the one to get you back into bed and pull your boots off and make sure you don't die in your sleep.
What Pawns say about their Arisen
Most of Rann's remarks would be subtle, and usually would refer to similar habits when they happen to overlap; recklessness, forgetting to eat or sleep, etc. On the flipside, more cautious Arisen would hear quiet sighs and "If only my own Master could learn from this." But occasionally, when settling down around the campfire, you might hear him murmuring a soft remark about how "Though I've traveled in worlds beyond the Rift many a time, of late I cannot help but feel a certain melancholy when I am gone from her side overlong." Emrys… no holds barred. He will out her dirty laundry, especially if the subject comes up. And sometimes even if it doesn't. "Do you think it's a requirement that Arisen are to have insufferable savior complexes, or is it just mine?" (This can be genuine or sarcastic depending on the demeanor of the Arisen he's serving, and could either be seen as praising or critical tbh X'D) (if a quest ends in failure/someone dying/etc., he remarks somewhat more sadly) "…She'd not have liked that." (starts laughing when fighting phantasms and such) "Oh, sorry, just remembered a time my Master went screaming and running the first time we encountered these, I thought for sure she'd damn near pissed her pants." (if the Arisen gets their ass woefully and embarrassingly clobbered while trying to help or bite off more than they can chew) "Don't worry, seen it all before." (I should stop I could probably go on for a while you get the gist)
What kind of video games would they play?
Reverie would probably play more "relaxing" games, with a simulation/management side like SDV or Rune Factory, visual novels, and also all sorts of indies - but then she'd also have a few obsessive favs like Dishonored and Assassin's Creed (stealthy kinds of games with some good story). Rann's a cRPG guy, but he also probably gets into all of the popular co-op games like Among Us, Lethal Company, Phasmophobia - but Rev probably got him into like, Fire Emblem because it's very funny for me to imagine him getting into the particulars about getting good stats on babies.
Tumblr media
Olivia will try just about anything, and is pretty competitive - she doesn't get very toxic but she will rage quit and just never pick a game up again. She'd probably be pretty big into something like Monster Hunter too, but she'd also play dress-up games and stuff like the Sims. Emrys... my sorta-meme answer is that he looks for "freedom and choice" in a game, he wants everything Todd Howard and Peter Molyneux promised and will bitch about it when it doesn't deliver. So: Elder Scrolls, Fable, Fallout, some certain cRPGs, etc Oh, he'd also play Pokemon though and get really attached to all of his Pokemon. (...his favorite is Probably Black and White)
What lines would the Pawns have upon the Arisen dying?
Rann: I'm thinking just an effectively heart-wrenching shouting of her name. One of those few instances all walls and restraint break down. In contrast with his usual soothingly calm town, it's pained, cracked with desperation, and a snarling touch of anger, a wellspring of grief. Emrys: "Arisen…?" He'd sound stunned and almost amused in disbelief. The air has gone from his lungs and he can't quite get it back. I think the main thing for him would be a long, dreadful silence tbh, the mental clambering for what to think, say, feel, do in this situation at all, because there's so much of everything welling up and most of it he does not want. "Hey… that's enough of that…" Whether the battle continues or not, it's over for him.
I was never a fan of Amber's marriage event, man.... I like that it shows a more serious side of Amber and her strong desires, but the lore implications and the fact that Amber isn't particularly present in it. Amber being so kind it almost kills her is kind of frustrating in the first place.
It specifically has always bugged me that the event tells us that Ambrosia and Amber are two separate beings that used to be fused together, and therefore the same would be true for the other Guardians and their respective monsters. It's just less appealing of a concept to me than if the process of becoming Rune Guardians literally transformed them.
(Also like, how is Ambrosia even able to stay in Amber's body in the first place? Her body went but not her soul? I guess Venti did that but she's literally a Dragon God...)
(I think this would also make the monsters Literally A Part of Them and not a separate entity and soul, so when you beat them with Tamitaya enchanted weapons, as all weapons in RF are, you send that monster part of them to the Forest of Beginnings. But saying they fractured into two beings because of that, for the purposes of Rune Factory, isn't something I'm interested in either... So let's say they were like that due to Rune accumulation or something, and sending that monster part away is really you beating the runes out of em. And when you rematch the bosses it's that Rune Energy re-manifesting or something. It feels neat and tidy that way, and makes sense how they are still physically changed. I mean, it doesn't make more sense than being physically changed from just being fused with a monster, because neither are realistic scenarios, but in my head it works.)
Because it's weird that Amber has an entire event like this but it's not addressed anywhere else in the game even though the plot surrounds it and there's 3 other characters who went through it! Do any of them ever talk about their time as a monster, and specifically about being a monster??? Even in Leon's event I don't think he addresses this issue (but I would love to see it if he does).
So anyway I think part of my issue with how this was handled in the game is that I want Amber, Dylas, Dolce, and Leon to actually be monsters and not just people who were temporarily fused with monsters because that means they aren't actually monsters and I have some THEORIES about Rune Factory Lore and the Forest of Beginnings and life and death. Which basically amounts to humans being monsters too, humans dying and going to the Forest of Beginnings*, etc. I think it ties into half monsters in RF3 very well too.
*dead humans can't come back through gates though... unless what has been established about monsters coming back through gates is incorrect and we have been killing monsters this entire time, and the monsters that come back are born from ~reformed rune energy~. Or something.
Humans And Monsters Are The Same is just a juicy theme okay.
Hug Kiss Marry or Kill all of your favorite farming characters!
Includes, but not limited to, Harvest Moon, Story of Seasons, Rune Factory, Stardew Valley, Sun Haven, Coral Island, Fae Farm and many more.
Inspired by @hug-kiss-marry-kill cause I've been wanting to do something like this for farming games for a couple of weeks now. But FMK just didn't have the right tone I was looking for.
Queue posts 5 times a day
A few rules:
All submissions will be through the inbox. I still have not bothered to learn how to do Google forms
One character per submission
Please include the name of the game. If you don't I will pick the first character I think of with that name.
Farming games only. If you're not sure if it counts there's the farm life sim page on tvtropes and the fogu forums have a masterlist of games with various variations. (Which I would link to if tumblr wasn't being stupid and deleting my links). Or you can ask but I'll just check those lists myself.
All farming game characters are allowed. Marriage candidates or single. Young or old.
Since I'm already copying hug-kiss-marry-kill any characters who are definitely underage will be adopt instead of marry.
If you can marry a character in game then they'll be in the marry category here. I don't care how young they look
Character has to have a portrait or some kind of artwork. No faceless npcs
I am only one person. If I mess up and give a child the marry option or an adult the adopt option please just let me know and I'll delete and repost the poll.
I have a zero tolerance policy for things like hate. I will block at first sign of harassment. No exceptions.
If I come up with any other rules I'll update here.
List of tumblr blogs will be updated as I remember names
@daily-coral-reblogging @coral-nerd @coralislandthinks @canonically-hot-bracket
