DPxBNHA Prompt

@evilminji recently made a Post about DP x MHA and I'm in love with the idea of those 2 fandoms together. (I'm gonna tag this dpxdc just to spread it around but there won't be much dc in it. Maybe a few crumbs here and there)

So! Quirks came into existence the same day Danny became a Halfa. He wasn't directly responsible for it, but when the Portal opened it released a truly Massive amount of Ectoplasm into the world at large. The Dr's Fenton didn't notice it at first, because Amity Park had always had that level of Ectoplasm and all of their Sensors were within the City Limits.

The Ectoplasm released onto the world quickly and integrated with multiple Humans across the Planet, and eventually enough Ectoplasm gathered in a single Human to form the first Proto-Core, aka Quirk. That human was the Glowing Baby.

This phenomenon spread across the world as the situation in Amity Park devolved. The GIW knew for certain that these "Meta Abilities" were the result of Ectoplasm Contamination, and doubled down on Amity Park to try and fruitless contain the spread. Not that it would have worked, the Portal opening had sent a Shockwave across the fabric of Reality, creating mini-portals that continued to feed Ectoplasm to the Earth.

Eventually the day came when Amtiy Park was Evacuated from the Mortal Realm by Clockwork for it's own Protection. It's disappearance was blamed on a newly awakened Quirk destroying the entire Town, which was used to feed the flames of hatred in the Early Dawn Era.

Then one day, Amity Park returns. In Japan of all places.

Clockwork had dragged the entire Town through Time, to an Era that would accept their abilities. It was placed in the countryside of Japan. Clockwork had considered putting them in a dimension of Heroes, bur decided that would like to stay in their home dimension for now.

Thats the basic world building, but there are other parts we can expand upon in this AU

For Example, OFA and AFO

All for One was the first True Core in the 1st Gen of Quirks, but he was born with a Defect that made him unable to generate his own Ectoplasm. He felt a Hunger that could never be satiated, and eventually found a way to feed that hunger by absorbing the Proto-Cores of other people into his own True Core, stealing their Quirks.

One For All was the Opposite, born as an empty True Core but without the insatiable Hunger that his brother had. Then AFO force fed him a Stockpile Core and it fused with his own, giving him the power to Generate and Stockpile his own Ectoplasm.

He also had the power to Pass On his Core to another Body, basically just passing on his power. Then his Successor did the same, and their successor, and their Successor. Eventually we reach the 9th Holder of OFA, and the Singularity.

In this world, the Quirk Singularity isn't just an event where Quirks grow too powerful for their Bodies to handle, it is an event where the Proto-Cores of Quirk Users experience an Apotheosis, and change from Proto to True Cores. True Cores which the Human Body can't handle having.

But it's different for OFA. It was a True Core from the beginning, born within a Human Body, and it has the power of 6 other Proto-Cores within itself all ready to Apotheosis into True Cores themselves. When OFA is passed onto zuku Midoriya, it floods him with 7 Cores worth of Ectoplasm, and turns him into a Halfa.

When Danny and the rest if Amity Park reappear in Japan, they find not only a world populated by mostly Liminal Humans, but also a Powerful Halfa who doesn't even know he is a Halfa. Maybe even 2 if All Might also experienced the same Apotheosis?

A bad and unprofessional analysis of Being Different, aka the love of my life

So obviously this score plays during the van scene. Here’s the entire video from where the score starts for reference (as if you haven’t seen it enough)

There are three main sections I’m breaking this up into. 1) the Mike Monologue, 2) The Heart, and 3) The First I love You

1) At the beginning of Mike’s self deprecative spiral (when he says “I keep telling myself that”) the music cuts from Argyle’s radio to Being Different. This part of the score sounds dramatically different than the rest. Now I don’t know any fancy technical terms, but I DO know that it sounds sad. The notes are long and simple— it’s uncomplicated. Will is putting his full attention into listening to what Mike has to say, and it makes him sad that Mike sees himself that way.

2) This section starts right at the moment Mike opens the painting. There’s an obvious shift in tone (the swell, and then the little happy beeps). And then comes the really interesting part: as soon as Will opens his mouth, another layer is added. I’m going to try to explain this as scientifically as possible— so if you listen very closely, you can hear sort of a wa WA, wa WA, wa WA. You know what that sound reminds me of? A heartbeat. A HEARTBEAT starts playing at the same time that Will explains how Mike is the heart of the party. Not only that, but in the original score (https://www.tumblr.com/gaysforbyler/765278990711898112/wawa-wa-waa-wa-wa), the heart starts beating out of rhythm. THEY’RE NERVOUS. Will was nervous to give his speech, and Mike was nervous to receive it.

Also, this section of the score is HAPPY. Will is happy to be doing this for Mike. Just isolating the soundtrack, it doesn’t feel like some big heartbreaking moment. Maybe it’s meant to be showing Mike’s POV here, but I feel like Will is just glad to be helping. Will’s love makes him happy

3) Many people know that the ending (when Will says “she’s so different from other people”) of Being Different uses the same motif as The First I love You and The First Lie, but it’s simplified down into four notes rather than eight. The First I love You plays for Mike and El, and Robin and Steve, while The First Lie plays during Jancy’s first kiss. This is Will’s first lie to Mike, and also his first confession.

What people DONT talk about is how different Will’s version is (clearly). For one, it sounds almost drowned out, like it’s playing from underwater. It’s being muffled. Will is literally covering up his feelings and trying to push them down so Mike can’t hear them. It sounds like the music crying. His love confession is sad, and raw, and distorted. That’s clearly shown through the score

Things I like:

Jesse Judy and Kelvin holding hands as they're bleeding out. Yes, they're really awful to each other sometimes but they do really love one another, and those moments where they go from shitting on each other to genuinely caring and supporting one another is one of my favorite things about the show. They're sniping at each other about Jesse's purse, but they're like this is it, we're going to go out holding hands. I think a lot of things this season have demonstrated how far their relationships have come.

Things I don't like: Kelvin's pained little cries of "I can't."

hot take of the day; something that would have made the bs time travel in totk at least FEEL a little more like there is literally any seperation between the present and the past is .. language barrier

just having zelda be unable to properly communicate with anyone from the past would have made it a lot more reasonable why she couldnt get them to listen to her, bc they literally couldnt, instead of rauru dismissing all her concerns like an ass it would have been interesting and elevated the tension somewhat to have them both struggle to understand (and as a plus also perhaps make it hard for rauru to tell you waht the fuck is going on at the start instead of just not telling you for no god damn reason)

that is harder to do with voice acting, but imo that was a mistake anyway, in neither game there are scenes i can think of that have action that couldnt be paused for text boxes and putting in a different language would have been easy to do this way, similar like in windwaker (also replay value? having it first be not understandable and the second time you udnerstand what they say?), and neither games are that narrative focused to begin with (stupidly enough) .... and alot ... majority of the voice acting sucks anyway (its not like all english voice actors are bad, have you heard elden rings voice actors?? hello??), i know i cant speak for everyone but after a few scenes i couldnt take anything seriously anymore (bc of .. how totk IS) EVEN THOUGH i played with japanese voices, which at least sounded like they were trying at all, i still cant wrap my head around anyone being able to listen to the most fake, forced or just unfitting voices in english i have ever heard and being immersed in it (on top of it just being not well written or paced or .. anything)

SuperIceLight has several fun short fics but I especially recommend (Heros) Never Die and These Scars (that show) which are both focused on Guy and are really fun. I think about them a lot. Especially (Heros) Never Die. Telepathic Guy Gardner what a concept.

CatBoyOllie (Vipersinapit) has SO many fun ideas and I think about Let The Sky Fall regularly because oh my god thank the stars someone wrote a fic about that concept. Amnesiac Secret Agent Hal with powers beloved 💖- wait I should do a green heart. 💚

The "Parallax is not Hal Jordan" recton is canon. How the universe is is that Hal Jordan is not Parallax, he has never been Parallax. (So why does it feel like Parallax completes him?) Really good writing of Guy, incredibly charming Steph. Steph's mom is going to rehab and her dad is in Jail so Steph needs someone to stay with during. Guy Gardner is her legal guardian! She gets to meet the Justice League International too, it's really fun :)

Whoo that was a lot of fics. It's not even all of them I cut out a few but!! If you want green lantern fics these are the ones I saved because I knew I'd think about them and want to read them again one day (and for many of them, already have). SO! Not an exhaustive list of fantastic fics I've enjoyed :)

Hi, just wanted to say that you post sometimes about how important it is just to go to things sometimes and socialise. One of your posts inspired me to join the meetup website and since then I've been to 3 groups and had a really nice time and talked to some potential new friends! I moved to a new city a few years back and never really made friends and now I feel really pleased to be getting out there so thank you!

I don't know why this particular lesson took me so long to learn (or why I have to keep learning it, over and over again) but the simple act of forcing yourself out of your space to do things really does make an appreciable difference. Life gets richer and deeper the more you engage with it, and you will never, ever know if you stay inside the four walls of your apartment and wait for it to come to you.
