hello i’ve got some thoughts and updates for this blog.
i’ve been on a bit of burnout for a while, including life outside of writing. naturally the termination has sped up that burnout. i’m exhausted and struggling to be graceful about it, but that’s to be expected. i’m not one to sit on my feelings even though i’ve lacked the energy to write. which really bites because that’s my number-one passion really.
however i’ve taken some time to relax by diverting my attention away from social media and niji streams. i’ve relearned an old hobby and splurged a little too much on a new one, and i kind of can’t believe how much i missed drawing on real paper with a real pen and pencil. and thank god the love and deepspace sponsorship wrapped up before the termination, because that game has me in not just a chokehold but like one of those umbilical cords from astral projection. the silver cord? that
i’ve been watching other vtubers lately as well. i’ve always considered adding holostars en to my list but hesitated because everything else on my blog was niji-related.
consider this confirmation that i will be adding holostars’ tempus hq, vanguard and armis, and first stage productions’ avallum to my list of characters i will write for. i admit i’m not as familiar with armis, but i’ll be paying closer attention in the near future as i branch out from strictly watching niji only.
(might also be adding idol corp’s e-sekai? maybe? i watch them once every few months and i haven’t seen pochi or yuko stream since they debuted 💀 no clue on their gen 2 either)
i’ll be overhauling my masterpost for organization soon. so apologies for the horrors about to come… to be clear i will not delete any of my writing so don’t worry!
i’m unsure how much niji i’ll write in the future. give me some time to think as the situation hopefully cools down. i appreciate your patience.
and who knows maybe i’ll write for non-vtuber fandoms too
i think it’s about time i clean my inbox out soon too. i‘ll answer what asks i can and delete the remaining ones. i’ve had a few requests sitting in my inbox for nearly a year now and i’ve recently realized how stressed i was over them and learned about some boundaries i didn’t know i had beforehand, among other things, so so it’s about time i face them head-on. i apologize if i never got to your request! please don’t take it personally if i don’t answer your request. but above all else thank you for being patient, understanding, and kind enough to send in a request. even though i tend to bite off more than i can chew i always get so happy whenever i see a notif in my inbox and i appreciate your time for a little unit 4402.
even though i’m not watching niji streams atm i’m hesitant to stop writing for them because, like, i keep thinking of this clip of doppio saying he feels like he’s allowed to buy healthy/organic food because of fan support and donations, and among other reasons... it’s very easy to make conclusions on people you only know through a screen and i just can’t bring myself to cut them out so abruptly, even if i’m a fan creator on a site none of them use.
idk when i’ll post next and it feels nice to say that. i usually try to post once every 2 weeks, but considering how i’m trying not to think about niji right now and am instead embracing other parts of my life, i dunno. it’s nice. this blog is a major source of joy for me and it feels like i’m preserving what makes it so special for me instead of turning it into a chore. hopefully with time and rest i’ll have a clearer idea of where to go from here.
that’s pretty much everything on my mind, i think? thank you for bearing with me and my yapping. i hope to return soon and that the next time you see me, my blog will be cleaner, more expansive, and with a fresh mindset. take care of yourselves and don’t get immersed in toxicity. don’t forget to do what you love 💛

requested by @niviasthoughts - thank you for approaching me!! I hope this post can help!
The IB Program is hectic enough without having to worry about where your stuff is, when you need it, and how you’re doing. Keeping track of things is pretty much essential for success, because once you get behind it’s difficult to catch up.
I graduated in 2018 with an IB score of 37 out of 45. I started the two years organized and ended even more organized than I thought possible. It’s definitely a program that tests your limits and forces you to surpass or reinvent them.
This is gonna be a pretty long post, so I'm going to put it under the cut.
part one: starting out
It's important that, before you follow through with any of the systems I suggest/inventing your own, you check that your teacher doesn't already have a system set up. In my experience, my teachers' systems have never worked as well as ones that I have determined for myself, because they haven't spent ages and ages developing it just for MY benefit like I have. However, just as life often does to us, you may not have a choice.
Some teachers (and in my experience, the ones I like the least) have a system that they don't just suggest but enforce, and will often take off points in grades such as notebook checks if you don't use their suggested materials/system. There's no way around this, so make absolutely sure you can use your own system on a class-by-class basis to ensure you're getting the best grade you can. Those points add up.
part two: materials
You do not need anything fancy or expensive. All of my stationery is pretty affordable and there are only a couple products I use that I saved for/splurged on. You. do. not. need. fancy. stationery. to. succeed. or! be! a! real! studyblr! say it with me y'all.
I'm not even going to bother to list specific brands because it'll just discourage you from others. I'm going to be as vague as possible. For a reason. Decide for yourself what you like best.
rivkah's very basic IB shopping list
black/blue pens
(trust me, you'll need multiple. I went through a whole pack of 12 THE FIRST SEMESTER of my senior year because I was writing so much.)
a binder and loose leaf paper OR notebook, one for each class
this is entirely up to your personal preference. I prefer to have loose leaf paper because I can rearrange things as I wish (I'm so indecisive and often reorganize). I typically choose 1 inch binders and 4-8 tab dividers. It really depends on the class how I organize these dividers, but they're usually something like classwork/homework/projects/tests/etc.
a colored set of some kind of writing implement
markers, pens, highlighters, it REALLY DOESN'T MATTER as long as you have AT LEAST five colors. I prefer 7-10, because annotating history/english documents requires that you look for a lot of different things. pick whatever works best for you and figure out what your color systems are. it's best to have multiple, especially cross-subject, because your needs may differ depending on the document.
a pencil pouch/supplies organizer
again, whatever fits your preference. I like backpacks with pockets that have little built-in organizers or a pencil pouch that, likewise, has different compartments. I'm one of those people where I like to know EXACTLY where my materials are. I don't like wasting time rifling through a general pouch. if that doesn't bother you, go ahead and get one!
post-it notes
these are so versatile. annotations, reminders, misc notes, anything. I always have multiple colors and sizes on me because I use post-it notes for almost everything, including writing down ideas and reminding myself of deadlines.
planner/bullet journal
digital or paper, doesn't matter. but YOU NEED TO WRITE THINGS DOWN IN IB. don't rely on your memory, because it'll start failing you as soon as you get stressed and busy. also don't worry about spending too much money. I like my bullet journal because if I feel artsy, I can be. If I'm in a hurry, I can keep it minimal. plus I never need to worry about not having enough space to plan. whatever you pick, if it works, stick to it. don't try to have 5 planners because I guarantee you'll just confuse yourself.
misc materials like scissors, glue, white-out, tape, etc
I like to have these on hand just because you never know when you or someone else might need them.
part three: how to integrate these materials/systems
general tips
if something can be done in less than 15 minutes, do it as soon as you can--whether it's at lunch, in extra time at the end of class, or when you first get home.
if it's a large project/assignment, get something down the first day it's assigned. write up a schedule to work on it, or an outline/draft skeleton, or do a little research into what you'd be interested in covering if it's open-ended. something, anything. at the very least, if you don't make progress, it'll cement the assignment in your mind and you won't forget at easily.
do not leave readings to the last minute. they often seem small in comparison to presentations or essays, but they're important.
whenever possible, try to link projects or topics back to your interests. it makes things like the IAs or EE so much easier to write... because the only thing worse than having to write 2000 or 4000 words is having to write 2000 or 4000 words on a topic that puts you to sleep.
utilize your connections with your teachers. in most cases, they want to help and see you succeed. if you have any teachers you're close with, confide in them.
at the very least, if you can't be friendly with them, communicate with them. and suck up a little. because if you're in their good graces, they'll be more understanding when you have your 9th consecutive breakdown or run out of time and can't hand something in. And if they know you're having problems (mentally, socially, in your family, whatever) they can extend their hand to help more. even if it's just one or two teachers, it makes a difference.
set reminders in your phone/calendar for the end of the school day if you have to take a textbook home and you keep it in a locker (hopefully you do, it's bad for your back. IB is bad for your back lmao.) it'll save your life when you start on your way home, exhausted, not remembering. funny how stress makes you totally memory-less.
is a desktop and phone app that has saved my life on numerous occasions. it's more suited for college, but it's really nice because you can track your PROGRESS on assignments, not just on whether you've completed them or not.
obvious, but get sleep and eat good foods. it'll improve your concentration and memory.
it's really tempting when you walk into your room to just dump your stuff somewhere, maybe in a pile. try to make a bin/tray/spot that is specifically for "stuff to be done/sorted/taken care of" and then take care of it nightly.
I know it's often tempting to relax until dinner (at least, if you're like me) and then do your homework after dinner, but please. start your homework as soon as possible once you're home, or before then if you can. you don't have to study every second, but I know I got really tired of seeing 2:30 AM blinking back at me every night.
set your own deadlines and, for the love of all, hold yourself accountable for them.
schedule in at least a half-hour of you time, hopefully in the middle of your homework. you'll forget to have it otherwise and you'll be a zombie. I've been there.
English
stay ahead on readings. see above. if possible/time allowing, read/skim the first time and THEN go back to annotate once you understand what you're looking at. when you notice things the first time, you can start connecting the dots the second.
always know where your books are. have a specific place in your backpack/locker/desk/room. nothing's worse than losing a book you're halfway through and have a paper due.
keep detailed notes for your EA/IOP/IOC. my teacher made us do this thing called "grids" which dissected key symbols/motifs/themes to DEATH, and it was hell, but it helped a lot.
History
again, detailed notes. include not just what happened but why? what were the causes, the events, the effects, and the historical interpretations? this is a fancy little buzz word for "quotes others have on the subject." if you throw even one of these into each of your final papers during senior exams, it boosts your score. my history of the americas teacher never let us forget it. and boy, did I have it in my head by May 2018.
you don't *need* a book for your IA or History EE, but let me tell you, it's hard as hell to get a good score without one. get that deep, deep knowledge bb.
keep things in whatever order works best for you. for my purposes, I always did it chronologically, because I didn't want to jump around too much in an essay. but there's other ways to structure an essay and you need to find what your strong points are.
Spanish/French/etc language
I personally took Spanish. Got a 7 in it, too, so I know how to organize best for this class.
It's INCREDIBLY important that you stay organized in this class, particularly with vocabulary. It's up to you how you want to study and structure your notebook, but leave ample room to write words over and over and over.
You will most likely (assuming your teacher is doing their job) have readings. Devise your own color system, but I typically had three colors for Spanish readings: 1) words I don't know (and later define), 2) vocabulary we learned in class/need to memorize, if applicable, and 3) words I know/need more practice with. You can add/subtract depending on your strength and weakness in the language.
Math
The only class I kept a notebook for, not a binder.
You won't pass just by studying rules. You need to be able to apply them, too, so please keep a section of your notebook/binder for practicing problems. As many as it takes/you have time for.
Keep. All. Your. Tests. I do this for all my classes, but it is VITAL for Math that you're aware of your weaknesses. When it comes down to it, you need to study what you DON'T know, not what you know.
Science
I took Biology. My brother is currently taking Physics.
There will be math in both, just much more in Physics. Follow the rules above for Math when applicable.
Biology was so difficult for me that I rewrote my notes three times. First for studying for the upcoming test, then for the Year 1 "final" my teacher gave, then again for the IB Exams. It's incredibly time-consuming, and might not work for you like it did me. Whatever you do, organize your notes in a way that let you understand difficult concepts in a step-by-step order. IB Bio and Physics are super step-by-step and if you go out of order, you lose points.
Art
I took art, not psychology, so I'm sorry I can't help for psych. But I was basically on my own for art because my teacher was not up-to-date NOR ORGANIZED AT ALL. I had to do all the research myself for the rules before I could even start my work. And I had to do it all senior year, because she wouldn't let me start as a junior.
honestly, I could write a whole separate post just on this subject.
make sure your stuff is neat and in black pen. especially for your process portfolio, that's the only way they'll grade it. I did my Comparative Study on the computer.
TOK Presentation/TOK Essay/IAs/EE
I didn't mention this in the material list, but I was so paranoid about losing materials necessary for my History IA and EE that I literally had 2 folders, one for each of them, JUST devoted to all of the papers that were thrown at me for them.
I was instructed to keep one for my EA by my English teacher, AND I had another kept my grids (used to study for the EA) in a separate folder too.
This is completely optional, but I found it really helpful in making sure I knew where I was with all of my assignments. You could easily substitute all these folders for an accordian binder, it whatever works best for you.
Okay, I've covered all of the subjects I took and major assignments, as well as the general organizational tips. There's still so much more, but this is the bulk of what I did and what I remember. If any of you want to see anything on one of these subjects specifically, please reach out to me! And as always: IB is scary and confusing, as well as incredibly fast-paced, but it isn't impossible and you're not alone. My messages and inbox are always open if you need anything.

Auburn must replace some big time production up front
Auburn fielded the best defensive line in college football last season. The leaders of that unit, Derrick Brown and Marlon Davidson, combined for 23 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, 5 pass break ups, 3 forced fumbles and 3 fumble recoveries. They were the scariest duo in all of college football.
But now they are gone and Auburn must rebuild its fearsome front once again. 2018 sack leader Nick Coe is gone as well so it’s time for a new name to emerge as Auburn’s top pass rusher up front. Interestingly, two of Auburn’s top leading returners in sacks are linebackers.
Auburn's top 3 returning sack leaders KJ Britt (3.5) Tyrone Truesdell (3) Owen Pappoe (2) Some opportunities to make an impact on the edge this fall for this 2020 class
— AUNerd (@AUSportsNerd) June 19, 2020
There’s a lot of talent up front but not a ton of proven production. The incredibly wise contributors here at College & Mag decided to put their brilliant brains together and predict who emerges as Auburn’s newest top pass rusher.
AUNerd
There are two obvious picks out the gate. Big Kat Bryant and Derick Hall are the likely starters on the edge. However, Hall did not record a single sack last season while Big Kat finished with 1.5. It’s not like either are stone cold locks to lead Auburn in this category this fall.
There are quite a few wildcards to consider. Tyrone Truesdell provided surprising pressure up the middle last fall recording 3 sacks which was 4th best on the team in 2019. Doubling that number could put him in line to be the sack leader in 2020. What about TD Moultry? There have been flashes where it looked like he was emerging as a speed threat off the edge only for him to disappear again. Maybe a new face from that 2019 class like Jaren Handy, Colby Wooden or Caleb Johnson emerges? Dre Butler was ultra productive in JUCO and could be a nightmare rushing from the 3 tech. Ya’ll also know I am a BIG Romello Height fan.
I’ve wrestled with this one for a bit and while I am tempted to go bold with my pick, I decided that with a full offseason of strength training and hopefully a full year as starter, Derick Hall becomes Auburn’s newest edge threat. I would love for this to end up being Big Kat but it’s going to take quite the jump for him to get there so I’ll go with the sophomore.
Verdict: Derick Hall
Will McLaughlin
With Derrick Brown and Marlon Davidson off to the NFC South, the Auburn defensive line will most certainly take on a different look next season. While this will probably be the obvious choice, it’s time for the next great Auburn defensive linemen to step up and I think that’s going to be the large feline.
Big Kat Bryant recovers the fumble, then reels off an 83-yard return. pic.twitter.com/J7lsSYN2R4
— Auburn Football (@AuburnFootball) March 30, 2020
Verdict: Big Kat Bryant
Jack Condon
After losing the core of one of the best collections of talent in Auburn defensive line history, we now have to find out who’s going to be able to fill the bulk of the production. Is there a guy capable of winning multiple Defensive Lineman of the Week awards? I think so, but we’ll have to wait and see on the production. You would’ve thought that the attention teams paid to Brown and Davidson last year would’ve helped someone else become a huge monster, but that pair shone in spite of the extra blockers.
That said, there’s one guy who’ll get the bulk of the attention this year, and that’s Big Kat Bryant. As Auburn’s most known returning lineman (super cool name helps with that), he’s going to get a ton of attention when offensive coaches look to scheme against the Tiger defense. Therefore, I think he ends up having a quiet season stat-wise, even if his work shows up on film occupying multiple blockers. So, we’re going to see someone have a big 6+ sack year, and I think that guy’s going to be someone with experience and who spent a fair amount of time in the backfield in his opening season.
Verdict: Owen Pappoe
Ryan Sterritt
It goes without saying Auburn is losing a ton of talent off the defensive front this year. With Derrick Brown and Marlon Davidson gone, the focus will fall on vets like Big Kat Bryant and Tyrone Truesdell up front. Under Kevin Steele, the pass rush has generally lived or died with the success of the Buck - Carl Lawson and Jeff Holland each had 9.5 sacks from Buck in 2016 and 2017 respectively, but the pass rush fell off slightly in 2018 (Nick Coe, 7 sacks) and more noticeably in 2019 (Big Kat Bryant, 1.5 sacks). It’s unfortunate, because the Auburn defense last season did pretty much everything well except rush the passer.
The expectation is that Bryant will slide over to a more natural fit at end, replacing Marlon Davidson. Who’s going to take over at Buck? Will Moultry get it together? Will Hall break out in a big way? What about one of the newcomers?
Ultimately, I’m not sure anyone distinguishes themselves to lead the team in sacks from the Buck this year. Instead, I’m going to lean on Auburn’s returning sack leader to have an even bigger year and put himself in position to be Auburn’s first 1st round draft pick at linebacker since Takeo Spikes.
Verdict: KJ Britt.
Joshdub
“Big Shoes to Fill” is a theme here - you can’t actually replace the talent lost to the NFL. Derrick Brown was THE man - and the talent around him just made him better. Auburn’s defense won’t have that kind of talent in 2020; it will have to rely on the remaining veterans.
Nobody covered more ground than the true freshman linebacker Owen Pappoe last year. It feels odd to call a true sophomore a veteran, but he’s got the physical skills and leadership capability to step into the role.
Verdict: Owen Pappoe
You’ve read our takes now it’s your turn. Who will lead Auburn in sacks this season?
War Eagle!

FINALS EW
Today begins my short leave from work so I can focus on studying for and taking my finals. Because of online classes, I decided to go ahead and make a schedule so that I know exactly what I’ll be doing on what day, and I decided to share with you all to hopefully give you some ideas about making your own study/exam schedule.
Online classes treat exams slightly differently in that instead of taking the exam at a specific time on a specific day, I actually have a 3-9 day window to take the exams, and they all have to be taken by 11:55 pm on the 9th of December. While it’s nice to take exams on my own time, if you have a tendency to procrastinate like I do, you could end up leaving everything until the last minute and not have enough time to take all of the exams.
The first thing I did to get organized was make a list of all exams and papers that have to be done, when they have to be done by, and whether or not the exams are cumulative or not.
For my medical terminology class (HIT 135), I have a 100 question cumulative exam that has to be taken between 5:00 am on 4 December and submitted by 11:55 pm on 9 December, with two attempts and (I believe) two hours per attempt.
For my anatomy/physiology class (BMS 146), I have a 40 question non-cumulative exam that has to be taken between 5:00 am on 1 December and submitted by 11:59 pm on 3 December and will only consist of the last three chapters of the text. I also have five multiple-choice assignments that have to be turned in by the time the exam is due.
For my finance class (FIN 100), I have a 4-6 page term paper (single spaced!) on one of 8 topics of my choosing that has to be turned in by 11:59 pm on 9 December as well as a semi-cumulative exam on everything that we learned after the midterm exam that has to be taken between 5:00 am on 1 December and submitted by 11:59 pm on 9 December.
Now that I have figured what I have to do, I had to figure out when I wanted to take each exam and have the paper turned in by. Even though I have until the 9th for everything (except the anatomy/physiology exam) I want to have everything done by the 7th so I can have a few days to rest before I go back to work full time.
Because the anatomy/physiology exam is due first, that would obviously be my top priority. Having only three chapters to study means I can do one chapter a day between today, tomorrow, and Friday, and then take the exam on Saturday.
The finance exam is only on five chapters, so I could study 1-2 chapters a day before I take the exam. As for the paper, even though I can write an entire paper from start to finish in a few hours, I want to present my best work. So I want to have the time to research, create an outline, a rough draft, a revised draft, and finally, a final draft.
The medical terminology exam is the one that is the most important to me, and also on the most material, so I want to have a bit more time to study it all, ideally studying between 3 and 5 chapters a day (22 chapters total), so this exam will be the last one I take. It sounds like a lot of pressure, but you cannot go into the medical field without knowing the terminology, and especially because this class only covers the basics, I am shooting for a perfect score here.
I’m also planning a trip to campus to study with some friends and be in the nice quiet library, so that will play a factor here. With all of that in mind, here is the composed schedule, from today until the 9th.

(as a side note, the reason why each exam gets a full, dedicated day is so I can take as much time as I need during the day to do final reviews and take the exam whenever I feel ready, or, ideally, do the final review in the early morning, take the exam by the afternoon, and have the rest of the day to relax)
SO
It’s gonna be lots of work, but I’m gonna do everything I can to make it fun and understandable, and I’ll do my best to share a different study tip every day and post a bunch of clips on my snapchat.
To start things off, my tip for today is to take a break at least every hour (ideally every 30 minutes) and walk around. I set it up like a school day where I work for an hour, take a 5 minute break, then every 3-4 hours I take a meal break.
Happy studying!

New ask game for writers
1. Favorite place to write.
In a room alone on my laptop, however I’ve been poor lately and my laptop is broken, so I’ve been writing on my phone. I come to enjoy writing on my lunch break at work in my car.
2. Favorite part of writing.
It would probably have to be the world building as far as the villain is concerned and showing them off to the reader.
3. Least favorite part of writing.
Being distracted
4. Do you have writing habits or rituals?
Not really. I just do it. I used to have to take a bath and getting my mind working before sitting down are writing.
5. Books or authors that influenced your style the most.
There are things always being added to this list. First off, I’d be amiss to not mention that me having any sort of style is thanks to Micheal Creighton. I was always very creative and good at writing, but in 2009 I had read Next not long earlier and decided to write a story of my own that I am now embarrassed of.
Anyway, Max Hathorne who writes Kronos Rising was a huge influence. I might not write the same kind of science fiction as him, but the way he approaches things, including the villains and Kornosaurus/ Kraken inspired me to added scence in the Zoey series that center around the villain, lord Neball.
Neal Asher’s solid world and character building left me in awe as I read the Transformation series, this has inspired me to do a better job with those aspects.
George R.R. Martin has inspired me in similar ways, but also to not always be afraid to have to many characters. Sometimes it fits and works best with a series.
6. Favorite character you ever created.
Oh damn, that is a loaded question. On one hand I’ve got a character named Haley who is extremely depressed, abused and also has a lot of anxiety and some addictions. I don’t think a depressed character has been written to this extreme in a novel, at least that I can remember.
Zoey, is my first love obviously. She is the title character to the first series I ever started creating. The title character to an absolutely massive series. There is reason enough in that for her to be my favorite.
Randy would have to have a place high up on this list because he is the main hero for most of the Zoey series, I can’t give away why he isn’t actually. Though I highly enjoy his personality despite his life threatening flaws.
Hollie is a character in the Zoey series that comes in much later, but I quite enjoy her as well.
I also have a soft spot of a character named Eric in a store that is very nearly ready to be written, Let it Die. He’s the main.
7. Favorite author.
Micheal Creighton
8. Favorite trope to write.
I don’t feel I have one. Though sometimes I’ll be writing a scene and one will pop into mind and I’ll have to insert it somewhere.
9. Least favorite trope to write.
Again, I don’t have one. I don’t go out of my way, they just pop into mind.
10. Pick a writer to co-write a book with and tell us what you’d write about.
Neal Asher would probably be my number one, especially since Creighton couldn’t happen. Obviously it would have to be a book that takes place in space. I think I might show him the small outline I have for a novel I have currently named Collapsing Universe.
11. Describe your writing process from scratch to finish.
It depends. The Zoey series is a terrible example. For them, I really only do the plot of the novel, write down a description by chapter, sometimes it has to be tweaked during the writing process. It also isn’t very long. For a series that is typically 200 to 300 thousand words a book, the outline might stretch twenty pages. In comparison Cruel World has over ten pages for it’s outline and I don’t think it will hit sixty thousand words. Let It Die, a novel I haven’t put much pen to paper for, so to speak, I started with writing down a description for it. Then I detailed it out more with a chapter by chapter outline. Then I went and read through it many, many times and added on. The outline is over twenty pages for what will be a typical sized novel, 90 to 100 thousand words. Next is to do character details, though I will probably read through the outline before and after this step. Then I will start fleshing out the manuscript. After I finish that, I will read it and edit, read it and edit, read it and edit. (I’m a perfectionist.) Then I’ll have others read it and edit it from there. Then I’ll read it and edit it. Hopefully get a publisher behind it at this point.
12. How do you deal with self-doubts?
I honestly try to ignore them. If I can’t I will actually read chapters that are about Lord Neball from the Zoey series. It’s still my favorite writing that I’ve ever done.
13. How do you deal with writers block?
Sometimes I will actually step back for a few days or a week or two and just read other peoples work. If nothing else it might inspire me to continue or give me a new idea.
14. What’s the most research you ever put into a book?
Zoey. I have probably put in three days worth of research just with the first novel which has gone through peer revision and now overhaul inspired by Martin and Asher. I’ve probably put in another twelve plus for the second book which sits at a thrid of the way done.
15. Where does your inspiration come from?
The desire to write. The desire to have someone read my work. To have someone say they got lost in the book and couldn’t put it down. I don’t care about fame or fortune. Right now I make roughly 2,000 dollars a month, if writing started doing that steadily, I’d quite my job and be happy with that for the rest of my life.
16. Where do you take your motivation from?
Reading. Either what others have published or what I have written.
17. On avarage, how much writing do you get done in a day?
I typically write about a thousand words. In a week it could be about ten thousand.
18. What’s your revision or rewriting process like?
Hell. I’ll want so desperately to be done, but I go through my manuscripts over and over until I feel like it flows well enough and moves at the right pace, and everything else enough to share with others.
19. First line of a WIP you’re working on.
Haley lays under her covers in her room which is somewhere around seventy nine degrees. The only thing that is good in her opinion. She however is not sleeping peacefully. Laying on her side, her body is struggling with something that is not just in her head.
That is the first paragraph for Cruel world. The first line isn’t the most exciting, but I think the paragraph sets it up well.
   20. Post a snippet of a WIP you’re working on.
This one I must preface. Lord Neball has finally turned on those that thought of her as a slave and this scene has her with the leader, the one who had been keeping her as a slave until her evil side awoken. I love this because leading up to this you have seen how, sick, vile, twisted, and depraved Neball can be.
"This time, I'll let you finish," she whispers into his ear. True to her words she squeezes him as tightly as she can and feels him begin to finish inside her. Aliessense lifts herself back up to a sitting position on top of him. "I am no longer, Aliessense," she breaths fire through her hate filled words and Dalient opens his eyes. The most fearful expression crosses his face that she has ever seen, as he looks up at her. "I am Lord Neball," she bellows at him. I am Death, Dalient thinks. A blinding light fills the room and the last word is stuck on repeat. Death is what the word Neball means in their language. After a moment, the light disappears, along with his head. That is one wound Dalient will not suffer through.
21. Post the last sentence you wrote in one of your WIP’s.
This is from Zoey: The Intergalactic Fighting Tournament (Second book). She is having a real tough time of things as of late and is about to figure out why, but that is actually in the next paragraph. It’s a very huge why.
"I know you are. I am far from angry with you. I'm worried. Admittedly I am afraid. Zoey, please, don't be afraid to tell me what is going on, if you have anything at all that you are hiding." Randy tells her, wrapping his arms around her. Not so oddly Zoey now feels safer and more relieved.
22. How many drafts do you need until you’re satisfied and a project is ultimately done for you?
It depends. I can see Cruel World getting one or two drafts. Zoey, as longer books, I can see as many as five or six... or seven.
23. Single or multi POV, and why?
Cruel World is for the most part single, until the end of the second to last chapter and the final chapter. Zoey will end up having had ten plus. Let it Die, two or three. Departure is the first book in my Argoes series of four books. It will have one predominate one and maybe two or three others throughout.
24. Poetry or prose, and why?
I’m going to say neither, but I do do poetry, mostly from a dark place.
25. Linear or non-linear, and why?
I prefer linear, but sometime there might be so story lines slightly further along, thinking from Zoey. I don’t really use non-linear though.
26. Standalone or series, and why?
Both. Though I have more love for the stories that are a series.
27. Do you share rough drafts or do you wait until it’s all polished?
I don’t like to share until I’ve gutted my work with a chef’s knife.
28. And who do you share them with?
People who like to read. I don’t really know to many other authors.
29. Who do you write for?
Me
30. Favorite line you’ve ever written. I like the lines that shatter either the readers mind or a character, though I can’t exactly think of a favorite line.
31. Hardest character to write.
Haley
32. Easiest character to write.
Zoey. She flows so well.
33. Do you listen to music when you’re writing?
Yes. Mostly Black Metal, but sometimes if something fits well, I’l switch it up for the scene.
34. Handwritten notes or typed notes?
Typed
35. Tell some backstory details about one of your characters in your story ________.
I can’t give away much about Zoey without revealing the entire mystery of the series.
Randy is not human. He is a species called Avant. He isn’t the most powerful Avant to ever exist. He actually isn’t even one of the most powerful warriors in the universe currently, but he is the most powerful protaginist in the series.
36. A spoiler for Zoey.
Zoey is a key to a lot of things. Much more than just say Randy’s hidden power. Far more significant things. Let’s just say that a certain creature that is bored and spans the multiverse more than knows of her.
37. Most inspirational quote you’ve ever read or heard that’s still important to you.
”If you don’t have time to read, you don’t have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that.” - Stephen King
38. Have you shared your outline of your story Depature (book one of Argoes) with someone? If so, what did they think of it?
My girlfriend. She liked it, but I had to overhaul half of the opening part of the book. She doesn’t really like love stories and it had a small one. Though I never wanted that to be much of the book. So it works better without it.
39. Do you base your characters of real people or not? If so, tell us about one.
I have done so with one, but that was it. The character Grant Stewart in the Zoey series is based off a friend of mine.
40. Original Fiction or Fanfiction, and why?
Original Fiction. It’s more satisfying to create your own characters and world.
41. How many stories do you work on at one time?
I have been writing both Cruel World and Zoey this year, but more so Zoey for the last month.
42. How do you figure out your characters looks, personality, etc.
A lot of thinking and looking around. I have started trying to use the profile sheets that pop up on here to see how that works.
43. Are you an avid reader?
Yes, but I haven’t read a book in the last few weeks. Not since I finished Infinity Engine by Neal Asher.
44. Best piece of feedback you’ve ever gotten.
Probably that my characters in Zoey are so exciting and relatable. I was told by a beta that they were excited for what was coming next while they read my original “final” draft of Zoey The Avant Rises.
45. Worst piece of feedback you’ve ever gotten.
Hmm. not sure I remember. Anything that isn’t helpful I tend to forget about.
46. What would your story Zoey look like as a tv show or movie?
Probably similar to The Expanse or Defiance, but with more fighting and more time spent on Earth than there is with the Expanse. Also a lot more school settings at least at first. After the first few seasons, because a movie would be impossible. It wouldn’t have much for school scenes.
47. Do you start with characters or plot when working on a new story?
Plot. The main character comes with that usually and I flesh out a outline with them and add characters from there and expand on the outline. Somewhere in there I usually get a story name.
48. Favorite genre to write in.
Science Fiction. Zoey, Argoes, Collapsing Universe are stories, the first two being series that I am working on or planning out that are Science Fiction.
49. What do you find the hardest to write in a story, the beginning, the middle or the end?
The beginning. except for Zoey, most everything comes pretty easy with the series, at least so far.
50. Weirdest story idea you’ve ever had.
I once seriously considered one from a dream I had. There was a staircase that went all the way down to “hell” and there were wicked creatures at the bottom of the mile upon mile long staircase. (sounds like a Stephen King book)
51. Describe the aesthetic of your story Cruel World in 5 sentences or words.
Oppressively depressing and dark.
52. How did writing change you?
I have an obsession now. I also imagine far more then I should in my daily life. It gets me in trouble sometimes.
53. What does writing mean to you?
Everything. I can’t live without it now. Nowhere to jot down my ideas and stories would be devastating.
54. Any writing advice you want to share?
If you can handle going through the worst hell to get your story written then do it. If you can’t torture yourself, then writing isn’t for you. After that we can go from there.

Quarter 2 Goals
Tumblr media
Originally today was going to be another installment of Cass’s Cover Do-Over but this past month has been interesting for me and really everyone else too. I’ve been constantly sick all month with what I am guessing is the flu (NOT COVID-19 Knocks on every wooden surface I can find lol) So in place of CCDO I will be discussing my Quarter 2 goals.
Now in the first quarter of the year, I did monthly goals and though I did enjoy that I also felt rushed and overwhelmed at times. Also, the fact that it seemed to me that I would put up a goals post then turn around and look its time for another goals post.
Like with everything else in life there are pros and cons with doing your goals quarterly and mine are the same as many other people and that my pro is also a con. I have three months to get these things done. Yay, I have so much time, but shit I could possibly be lazy and procrastinate.
Most people write their goals down in a document or blog post or in their planners and then never go back and read them. That has been a problem for me in the past but a method that I have found that works for me is having my goals out where I can see them all the time. In the business world, there is a tool that is often used called a Kanban Board. A Kanban board is a project management tool that’s designed to help you visualize work or goals, limit what you’re currently working on, and hopefully maximize your productivity output. I plan on doing a post in the future going over what Kanban boards and are how they are used.
Now on to my goals:
Take part in Camp NaNoWriMo
Fully outline Project Oz
Fully outline Project Rune 2
Start the outline for Project Rune 0.1
One full first draft
Finish my CP Work
Complete CP Edits for Project Rune 1
Continue to build Agent List
Query Agents* (*If I get my edits back and completed before the end of May if not this will be moved to Quarter 3 so I don’t have to be in limbo for an extra 2 months while agents are on holiday)
Newsletter
Create 30 Premade Book Covers
Open up for cover commissions
Host a giveaway* (*Keep an eye out…)
Read 3 books
On top of these public goals, I have 24 private/ business goals I wish to accomplish in the next three months.
Question of the day: What are you going to achieve in the next 30 - 90 days?

Day 46: Learning Something New
Day 46:
Welcome back everyone, to this uneventful blog everyone knows and loves. It's 4:30 AM here so let's get started with this week's punishments...just kidding I mean goals, and on top of that I hope everyone had a good weekend and is ready to get through this new week.
So let's start off with this weeks goal, and then we'll recap the weekend and the minor things that happened on that front. Anyways here we go.
Goal 1: This goal is pretty straight forward since it focuses on the sequel of The Gloomy Existence of Fate Anderson, and I'm hoping to add another 15k words to the story this week like last week to get it closer to completion.
Goal 2: Finish up the first draft of The 30 Pound Backpack and also make a cover for the book.
Goal 3: Post on Wednesday for Writer Wednesday, the story that will be posted is called Can't Leave.
Goal 4: Continue to edit The Hollowed Eye Man.
Goal 5: *optional* Work on the log lines for all of the stories.
Those are the goals for this week, and most of them seem doable and that's likely the order that we'll focus on everything. Some additional progress though will likely be made this week since on the weekend I bought a Microsoft Surface Pro to manage my work load a little and so far it's really helping balance things out and increase productivity.
Also during my weekend I managed to edit a quarter of The Hollowed Eye Man which has really jump started everything and I'm hoping have the entire story edited in the next two weeks. Also I believe I figured out my blogger problem, since I discovered communities and such so figuring tHt out is like a spiritual goal 6. Other then that though the weekend was pretty laid back and I'm ready to hit the ground running this week in hopes to hopefully make a significant impact on this weeks magnitude of goals.
I'll return on Friday to inform those who care about the success, that I hopefully achieve. Until then remember that Tomorrow's A Different Day.
