no but the dinner scene in “The House of Gaye” is actually something so important. the way uncle alonzo, a character who literally doesn’t speak any time else in the movie, breaks that silence and speaks the first time to alistair because he knows his nephew’s pain after everything where everyone started to all fight, all over one of the gold/silver duo girls making a single comment on his clothing style. this man who looks so stern and scary and all that, being the sweetest character, showing how vastly different people can be on the inside if we don’t judge them by their looks. and everything he said too like- FUCK. a whole heartfelt/heartbreaking monologue to alistair about the complexities of family, but how there's beauty within the complex. how things too simple or plain become dull and easy to take for granted. and then about how messy enough to still love, or damaging enough the not be involved with them anymore, the people who left us or who we leave behind, are who created who we were in that time, and the people who stuck around and are chaotic but beautifully so, continue to shape us into who we are going to become, and that the growing of self is an ever shifting process like- FAMILY, (BLOOD OR NOT), ARE THE HANDS MOULDING THE CLAY OF OUR LIVES AND WE ARE NOT YET READY FOR THE KILN. im crying
