“it’s not about glory. it’s not about getting what you want. it’s about belonging to something when the world has told you you’re nothing. it’s about finding the family to kill for when yours are long dead. it’s about letting go of ego for something larger.” and with that, every queer person in the world started sobbing

"so, being like a year or so out from the record 'so much for stardust' and looking back at it, the idea that this record was somehow a lot about the idea...how like one day you're not gonna exist and that can just be this big existential dread that kinda follows you around and it can feel paralyzing. but i think instead of just feeling paralyzed, it was important to make this record, and it's a weird record, and i say that because whatever you make — it's bracelets or tiktoks or videos or music — i don't know, you know, memes, whatever it is. make stuff. make stuff 'cause you have to make stuff, make stuff so you feel like you're alive. make stuff, and make the world a little more fucking weird." -pete wentz before heaven, iowa; sacramento, ca 3/3/24

Hermes: “Well, you know, Jay, I have been running for a long time. My entire life, which is about four million of your lifetimes. And, I don’t know if it helps or not, but it doesn’t stop. And there’s nothing bad about that, ‘cause there’s energy in it. And sometimes it’s nice to slow down and look out and…enjoy the view but, there’s nothing like the wind in your hair. So, if you’re gonna go fast, ✨at least have fun with it ✨”

As any self-respecting Zane stan, of course I've seen Decoded. And of course I loved the sweet but subtle character moment of him being bashful and awkward when Jay brought up the statue.
Tumblr media
For the longest time, I've always interpreted this moment as Zane being his typical humble, bashful self. And while I'm sure that's true to an extent, recent events from Dragons Rising have led me to consider an alternative interpretation.
If I may bring your attention to this quote from DRpt2:
Tumblr media
"Zane had impressive shoes to fill. No one could live up to him, maybe not even Zane himself."
I dunno. There's just something about the fact that Zane's own legacy has outgrown him, that he's overshadowed by the memory of his past self, that rather than a testament to the love his friends and community have for him he instead sees the statue as an insurmountable burden he can never hope to live up to...
Which brings me to yet another blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment from the Shadow of Ronin video game (I know it's canon-ness is debatable, but hear me out for a sec)
Tumblr media
While everyone is gathered around Nya and speaking to Borg via hologram, Zane is...gone. He's off in the distance, standing at the base of his statue, just...staring at it.
God, and when you add this all up to Zane's Ice Emperor baggage...yeah.

i am so obsessed with how like. taken as read the ot3 are at this point. like on the one hand it feels like they've been building up to this for ages but on the other hand it kind of feels like i blinked and we skipped right past some Major Turning Point where everything got spelled out and we're just already in firmly Established Relationship-land. obviously tarvek is too well-protected for anyone to assassinate openly, look how angry his boyfriend and girlfriend are at the idea of anyone threatening him. at this point i'm half-convinced agatha's just going to refer to her boyfriends in passing to someone else and no one's even going to comment on it until van finds out twenty pages later and immediately starts making everyone pay up

eda and darius are especially hilarious because they are The Same Person. have we ever talked about this. i know i've been thinking about this for Years now and i can't remember if i've actually written any meta about it.
these are both ornery closed-off emotionally repressed adults with 10,000 personal issues and zero social life except for their weird gremlin roommate whom they treat like family even though the weird gremlin roommate is a giant pain in the ass. they both get followed around extensively by literally The Most Annoying Children In The World who refuse to take an "i'm a negligent burnout who should never be responsible for kids" hint until the kids finally manage to be so annoying and so relentless and so genuinely goodhearted that the ornery adult is like FINE. this is my FUCKING CHILD NOW. I GUESS. go on to become the child's mentor and then the child's parent or at least to blur the lines between those two. teach the kid about an area of interest they're hyperfixated on. complain mutinously the entire time they're doing it. constantly talk about how they're going to bed and/or want naps and/or don't want to work. engage in insane rivalries with extremely dangerous people sometimes for thematic plot reasons and sometimes just for the fun of it. can turn into giant really hot monsters made of magic. fail to let anyone in on what they're thinking or feeling or planning even on pain of death. truly both start out as completely miserable burnt-out bastards who then regain the life in their eyes when they start hanging out with their random pseudo-orphaned children with turbo autism.
like. listen to me. They Are The Same Person. you think they aren't because darius looks like this high-fashion super cool spy dude who managed to lead a coven without raising suspicion for 30 years and eda is an alcoholic nightmare lady who sleeps in a nest filled with animal bones and digs through actual trash piles for a living but I NEED EVERYONE TO UNDERSTAND. THEY. ARE. THE. SAAAAME

my favorite part of the mayor logic twist is that it really is such a reminder that a lot of things can falsely present as logic. Mayor Logic wasn’t in it with the DA, or in the mob’s pocket, he was just a reflex pretending to be more important than he is. What your brain presents as “logic” isn’t always actually logical and logic can so easily be clouded that you can mistake the two for years. And that doesn’t make you a bad or unintelligent person, just because you have reflexes, habits, or triggers, that interfere with that logic.
It seems so small and superficial, but it means so much to have it reinforced by a story you love, that logic isn’t always what it seems and sometimes it takes some work to piece together what’s right.
