Awwww, Shadow Dog is very comfortably snoozling! What's his opinion on the winter coming in? It's definitely getting colder here, and my dog had a really interesting relationship with snow. I don't think she understood why everything was cold all of a sudden and where the grass had gone, haha!

I get why so much people makes Petey kinda tsundere and closed with his feelings because he is grumpy and traumatized, but in the comic books he is so caring and demostrative with Li'l Petey that I think he would be really sweet when he loves someone. Like, after he accepted Li'l Petey was his son he always put him first and try his best so he can feel loved.

(And even when he was in denial everyone was aware he loves Li'l Petey, even his enemies)

When Li'l Petey asked him if he was still mad at him (After letting an entire Ice cream fell on him when Petey told him to not eat on top of him) Petey was a little angry but made sure his son knows he will get over it.

When he was out of cat jail, first thing he did was buy everything he needed to take care of his child.

He had no obligation to let Dogman have shared custody but did it anyway because Li'l Petey missed him.

He accepted being evil again against his will to save Dogman and make his kid happy.

When he said he hated affect and Li'l Petey apologised he made sure to reassure he can do it, he was talking about everyone else (lol)

And he, indeed, is always carrying him, hugging him and telling him such lovely stuff

Am I making a point? Or I just wanted to show how cute and lovely he is with his son? Yes.

If you haven't read the comics please do yourself a favor and do it. I'm sorry but Comic Petey is the superior Petey.

Bonus because I almost cried at this part 😭 look at him trying to cheer him up

I know is not the same to love a child that to love a partner but I think it would be cute and funny that Petey is just the sweetest partner ever, like Dogman would have such a whiplash but I don't see him complaining since he loves physical affect.

You think Aether saves the tastiest parts of his kills for Dew as romantic little gifts? He gets more nourishment from the mental side of the kill anyway, so even if Dew's had a kill all to himself, it's about the gesture. Sure, he likes a good heart now and then, but he likes the way Dew's eyes go soft when he lets him have it even more.

ABSOLUTELY YES

Especially right after they get back from tour, when Dew's claws are so, so sharp but his body is far too exhausted to hunt. Aether will bring him all his favorite parts - tongue, heart, pancreas, maybe even a nice marrow-rich femur - while Dew rests, works on getting his sleep and meal schedule back on track. That look in his eye, the way his crow's feet get even deeper when he smiles? Aether lives for that look, any way he can get it. This way just so happens to be one of his favorites - he knows his gifts nourish the both of them, after all.

i think he's felt most completely at peace/not vulnerable when he's completely alone. or, maybe even more, when he's just gotten paid for something. having the money and counting it is soothing and makes him feel like he's good for that moment

🕯️] what memory do they replay when they’re alone?

i think two memories that keep finding their way back to him are two childhood memories: in one memory he's running on rooftops trying to catch birds to eat. he's so hungry, but he also feels free above the city, with no one else around, and when he gets close to the edge or slips on a tile, he can't tell the difference between mortal fear and exhilaration. the other childhood memory is following small fishing boats, teeny ones and larger ones (like sloops) up and down the line of the river: trying to figure out where they go, how they get fish, who pays them and when.

as an adult, he often remembers going through the emperor's things underneath the elfsong during act 3. the first time he learned to love someone else selflessly, or more accurately, to feel moved on another person's behalf, to tenderness, to compassion, to pity. the feeling of his hand touching the shell, the hilt of the sword, comes back to him a lot.

i don't think he'd be able to make sense of why these memories occur to him in a quiet moment.

a recurring dream of his, albeit infrequent, is just walking through the streets of the gate. they're not actual places, they're just a mishmosh of typical lower city scenes, and they go on forever in mazelike twists and turns. he usually doesn't remember that he's had the dream before

These little ice cream cups that they'd give to the kids at her school on mondays, as well as human-made ice cream in general!

Humans make ice cream using avocados, but pokemon use soy milk for their own version. She still enjoys pokemon ice cream, but misses the particular type of creamy smoothness of what she'd have as a kid. Eventually she mentions this difference in ingredients to Dusknoir, who is absolutely thrilled to hear about Twig's bunker's cuisine compared to that of pokemon as a whole. They have a long conversation about the similarities and contrasting elements of the food Twig grew up with versus what she eats now.

Dusknoir is taking notes the whole time and Twig has a nagging feeling that she's going to cry during the next family meal, if the thoroughness of his questions about ingredients and prep are anything to go off of.

In my continuing quest to learn more about Laura Ingalls Wilder as a writer beyond the Little House books, one of the most surprising things I've learned is that apparently she wrote a small collection of cutesy poems about nature fairies.

They were originally published in a children's column in the San Francisco Bulletin in 1915, and are apparently about a couple of fairy characters who paint flowers and bring dewdrops and bring about other natural phenomena. This post goes into more detail about the poems, and the interesting blend of practicality and whimsy that goes into her presentation of fairies.

It also provides one of the poems.

And this quote about the importance of giving children fairy tales that's almost Chestertonian.

Wilder explained why she preferred such magical images of natural processes in a column for the Missouri Ruralist called “Look for Fairies Now.” She argued that children needed tales of fairies to help them see beyond the surface and to use their imaginations. In the olden days, she explained, farmers left some of their harvest for the Little People who “worked hard in the ground to help the farmer grow his crops.” Perhaps this idea was just superstition, she continued, “but I leave it to you if it has not been proved true that where the ‘Little People’ of the soil are not fed the crops are poor. We call them different names now, nitrogen and humus and all the rest of it, but I always have preferred to think of them as fairy folk who must be treated right.

On the one hand, this feels like just another example of how it was apparently a requirement for female authors of a certain era to write cute nature fairy poems. But with the context of the quote, it's also surprisingly fitting for who she is as an author.
