Day 35: You know how hasmashdoneanythingwrong has the Tiamat Vibe Check (I think it was called that, don't quote me on that)? I personally believe that Siegfried can pass Tiamat's Vibe Check.

not to turn this into an ask game, but I'm also curious about your sexiest/least sexy paladin subclasses (admittedly I know next to nothing outside what we've seen on cr/exu)
Oath of Devotion (the purest expression of paladin vibes) (CR examples: Kerrek; initial build for Kima but later moved to Vengeance)
Oath of Redemption (it's about patience in the face of everything but it's also about having stupid high bonuses to charisma checks and Rebuking The Violent) (CR example: Zerxus)
Oath of the Watchers and Oath of the Ancients are tied (personally I slightly prefer Watchers but that's because *Chetney werewolf voice* you guys ever do it on the different planes, but both are impeccable, it's really just planar vigilance vs. being a source of nature and light) (no CR examples but I believe you would know ancients from Beverly Toegold V)
Oath of Vengeance (bit edgy for my taste and I do not personally have a wing kink but like, it is pretty cool, ngl) (CR example: Vax, NADDPod example: Beverly for a bit)
Oathbreaker (frustrating that the DMG automatically goes to 'evil paladin obviously broke their oaths and now is super into zombies' when Teven Klask is out here kissing hands and does not seem to be weird about the undead. but also...I could fix them.) (CR example: Arkhan, which, again, seems weird, seems like he's actually keeping all oaths to Tiamat)
Oath of the Crown (ngl I am not searching through my files for my Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide digital copy of questionable legality right now, but iirc it was a decent support-heavy build; I don't particularly care for the monarchy but it did make you super good at healing and that's sexy)
Oath of Glory (I fucking hate this subclass but it would probably be a good lay it must be said)
Oath of Conquest (Douse the Flame of Hope douses a whole lot of other things...mechanics actually go hard but the flavor is really a turn off, like, politically)
oath of the open sea (CR example: Fjord) is not published by the WoTC and so is not officially ranked here but unofficially it's #3.

it's gonna take 500000 years for moriarty's turn on the tiamat vibe check poll because of his release order but when that happens i strongly hope to see a "no" sweep across the board

I wonder which direction they'll go with Ahriman since we have Ahura Mazda now. There's the typical demonic, horned man appearance attributed to satanic figures and there's the gryphon/lion-dragon portrayal, which is interestingly similar to the art that is most commonly associated with Tiamat and Marduk.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This winged lion-headed being's identity is debated on by scholars since it's not particularly clear who they are, but one of the theories is that it's meant to represent Ahriman. On a side note, I think the snake is cute. On another side note: this portrayal would be fuel to the crack theory that Iblis went snake in the Garden of Eden mode to instigate the war between Ahriman and Ahura Mazda.
Tumblr media
I also wonder how Ahura Mazda feels towards Loki since I recall reading that at the end of the war between good and evil, Ahriman will be wrapped in chains and tossed into a pit similar to Loki's circumstances after Ragnarok. Possible "this person doesn't pass the vibe check because they remind me of so-and-so" scenario.

anonymous asked:
Vibe check! You've got either "soprano who's confident enough in that high F to fight any god you believe in then overthrow the composer right after" OR "baritone who thinks his upper range makes him a tenor with great chest voice when in reality he's just moderately squeaky" vibes. How does it feel to not fit into any section of a choir?
Mun, pass on the gentle funny roasting please~

The man stares in stunned silence for a long, long moment.
He'd been on his way to work, but someone had stopped him - which is fine, he always tries to make extra time for socializing and he doesn't have Pilvi for another hour anyway.
Once the words fully set in, though, he finds himself starting to laugh.
"I can certainly think of people who fit those statements quite well - I am not one of them. You have a good sense of humor, though, don't you? I will say, though, I typically do sing with the sopranos... so I suppose that puts me out closer to your first statement, but I'd never fight Lady Tiamat or try to destroy a composer's intent."

BnHA Ch.331 - Review, parallels & comparisons
This is an odd chapter. Lots of text and big art pieces, yet not much actually happens? Let’s see what nuggets we can extract.
The first few pages are AFO!Shig!Tenko analyzing Star’s quirk in gamer terms. Not only is this kinda rambly like Izuku’s muttering, it’s finding a way to win using the video game analogies that both Izuku and Katsuki have used. Is this a new hint Katsuki will be important in saving Tenko???
Tumblr media
When Katsuki was kidnapped by the LOV, Shigaraki thought he and Katsuki would have some things in common. Shigaraki attempted to “turn” Katsuki by talking about how oppressive rules can be. The rules of hero society cause suffering, even for fledgling heroes, right??? Of course, Katsuki didn’t buy it. He found a way to be himself, even within hero society. He never let rules or appearances constrain him. But if Shiggy can steal New Order…if he can make his own new rules, then Shiggy can change it all. Yes, I know the “urge” is AFO talking, but I feel like a part of Shigaraki is excited too.
Tumblr media
The other thing that stood out to me was the true re-emergence of Tenko as a distinct identity. We haven’t really seen Shigaraki explicitly refer to himself as a Shimura before. (Meanwhile, calling her Ms. Star is adorable and oddly respectful; remember, Shiggy isn’t trying to kill her):
Tumblr media
Awww, Mon!!! I LOVE Shiggy thinking about his dog. But not merely that he misses his dog — he’s asking if his dog has sufficient self-awareness to fall victim to Star. Could she pet a dog, say it’s name, and make it attack? Probably not. What else doesn’t have a sufficient sense of self? How about the Nomu? How about AFO himself? How about anyone else struggling with a duality…maybe a hero/villain name or family name that isn’t who they truly are? Maybe someone who can change appearance? Or maybe someone whose body houses vestiges, or pieces of other people? This part is VERY nicely aligned with the two most recent Vigilantes chapters.
Tumblr media
Speaking of names and identity, Star’s name is officially translated as Cassie, not Kathy. She (and Agpar, and by extension, America) are competing to “surpass All Might” just like Endeavor, who she name-checks. But she’s not trying to surpass All Might by saving; she’s killing to win. You can criticize All Might’s sacrificial tendencies and “pillar” approach if you want, but he NEVER would ask a squad to go down at his sole direction. Cassie’s fist bumping her bros like Uraraka, but do NOT mistake this for true teamwork. This is following orders from a reckless leader committing war crimes, and the pilots know it.
Tumblr media
Star’s behavior is recognized in canon as extreme, even for the extraordinary circumstances, but it’s also shrugged off because Number One Hero and Surpass All Might. It shows just how much restraint All Might must have used; how much his heart really mattered when wielding such a powerful quirk.
Tumblr media
Also the Endeavor name drop makes me think…. will he join in this fight? I’ve been wondering if he can bring himself to attack Shiggy again. If he agrees with Star that Shiggy needs to die…..that means his villainous serial killer son might be deserving of death too. Or maybe Horikoshi was just being a goof and playing off this:
Tumblr media
That brings us to Tiamat. Yes, the name is a reference to a Babylonian goddess of the sea from which other gods were born, and a powerfully evil dragon goddess/queen of the dragons in DnD. But it is ALSO a reference to Barrage (Horikoshi’s series before BnHA) as seen in the Vol 32 preview, which was part of Vol 31. See @hanashimas post here for detailed scans & translations. In Barrage, “Tiamat” is a young, powerful knight and astute military commander who is loyal to the crown and afraid of women — funny given his namesake. In Ch.331, Tiamat is the name of the missiles headed to destroy Shigaraki, the man-child gamer who sometimes gives off incel vibes, at the direction of a woman.
Tumblr media
FWIW, Barrage is only 16 chapters long, and I do recommend reading it as there are similar themes, even some exact dialogue, that makes its way into BnHA. I haven’t included anything specific here about Tiamat’s character arc, although you can probably guess some of it. :)
Finally. Hypersonic cruise missiles. Hypersonic just means faster than the speed of sound, like Edgeshot /hj. These missiles are intended to hit land-based targets, and can carry nuclear warheads. They are self-propelled by a rocket and they fly on a relatively low and flat trajectory — but they can maneuver while flying, generally via radar guidance or some type of remote control. If a fleet of these hit Shigaraki on the ground, it’s certain to cause destruction of the surrounding area. But Shigaraki — or AFO — might be able to use radio waves to change the flight path….

Grimoire of Tiamat: Some Thoughts
The Keys of Solomon, or KoS, are a neat little thing. Generally, you have your neatly presented means of controlling, envoking, banishing, and restraining the beings you work with.
I like those books. They tend to be very straight forward, very "this is how not to fuck around and get fucked."
Now the Grimoire of Tiamat, or GT as I'm calling it, is very less straight forward and reads kind of rapey. I guess I forgot since I put it away after reading it 1.5 times, but this book gives me super strong UPG vibes. I mean yes, they do start the book by saying that there are essentially no archeological or historical findings, beyond exorcisim/banishing formulas, to support their book of gnosis. So perhaps Mason just went out and worked with a primordial being that was straight up like: I will fuck up some ish out there, please promote me and my homeboys. 'Cause they sure as shit didn't offer up any of the shit Solomon has in his system.
The GT is just straight up: "these rituals open the gateways of the soul that can never be closed" (i). Tiamat is a "force that cannot be tamed or locked within the boundaries of a structured order" (12), and "there exists no exorcism of Tiamat" (28). "She cannot be banished" (28).
. . . Why the actual fuck would I invite a supposed omniprescent, all-knowing being into my house if I can't even fucking banish her? This sounds like a bad deal on my part. Just let me invite the Dragon of Primal Chaos into my house so she can *checks notes* devour, dissolve, transform and rebirth my soul which can afterwards never be closed to her or her eleven demonic/maybe-god children ever again. That is, of course, if my consciousness isn't "shattered in the Womb of Chaos" (12).
If that wasn't tempting enough, here are some nifty little quotes from pages 40-41, excluding the section on using sex to dissolve your ego and perhaps sacrificing some living thing to the Draconian entities:
"In order to experience the communion of energies in its totality, you have to offer yourself as the temple, the altar, and the vessel for the essence of the demon-gods . . . The gates of flesh, once opened, cannot be closed again."
Also, "protective circles are useless. There are no boundaries that would withhold these powerful entities" (42).
I just . . . why?!
Like the only plus side this book presents is that I can be a dragon, in essence, and fuck up like the general direction of my enemies + their surroundings. And like that's nice and all, but that's not a life goal of mine. I'm trying to make money, live comfortably, and not be visited by *checks notes* the eleven different embodiments of primal chaos.
I'm sorry but I've seen The Magicians. I know how this goes down. I'm going to have to see some other folks work through this grimoire before I offer my soul up to some 194 page book of UPG.

Current Music Obsessions: June 1 - 15, 2017
This whole month is gonna be a bit of a doozy for these posts. I’m purging through my watch later playlist again, so there’s quite a few entries. Let’s start with the many honorable mentions.
Ravenscry - Overload Elyose - plus qu'humain feat Florent Jannier (Arkan) Divitius - Sky Endless Main - Age of Darkness Amesoeurs - Amesoeurs Dopamine - II Mouth of the Architect - Lullabye Evig Natt - A Final Lament Blind Saviour - Reign of the Robot Clans The Longing - 40 Days Flora Cash - Nothing Lasts Forever (And It's Fine) DragonForce - The Game feat. Matt Heafy (Trivium) Tesseract - Retrospect Clouds - How Can I be There OverAlive - Lucid Reverie Draconian - The Death of Hours Chronicode - Break Out Of Devilment - Father Dali Ten - Paragon Band-Maid - Daydreaming Despite Exile - Absent Foundation Moonlight Asylum - Can't Save You Anymore Mastercastle - Drink of Me Midnight - After Death Scarlet Haven - Titan, I Am Psyborg Corp. - World Genocide Blast Port Noir - Tide Across the Divide - Worthless Lamb - Wise Enough
Now for the many actual obsessions.
1) The Anix - Again
This is the second song I've heard from them and I am really enjoying their sound. It's so lovely and so great to chill to. I love the strings in this track too. They add an extra dimension to the song's sound that really takes it to another level even though it's only something so simple. I am definitely gonna give their new album a listen.
2) Kimberly Freeman - Rust
I'm already quite familiar with Kimberly's band One-eyed Doll, so when I saw that she released a track using her actual name, I was quite intrigued. It's so very different from One-eyed Doll. The only resemblance is her voice. It's so doomy and atmospheric and so beautiful. If you've ever wondered if Kimberly could do something gorgeous, this is the song.
3) Cellar Darling - Black Moon
This song is so good! I am so hyped for the new album, you have no idea. I've always been a big fan of Anna and her voice and hurdy gurdy, and to be able to have a full album featuring her voice singing the way she does with Cellar Darling is so amazing. The unique, soft vocal lines in the chorus and bridge are so pretty, and same goes for the hurdy gurdy solo. Can't wait to hear their debut album.
4) Bonnie Tyler - Holding Out for a Hero
A friend on Facebook shared this song and I got obsessed immediately. I feel beyond late to the party for just then hearing the original version of this iconic song. Bonnie's voice is just so epic and the song itself is epic. I low key wish a symphonic metal band would do a cover of this and make it over-dramatic. I would love that.
5) Tiamat - Carry Your Cross and I'll Carry Mine
I discovered this song on Pandora one day and decided to look it up at a later date, and when I did, I kept listening to it. It's such a simple song, but the execution of it and the blend of the two singers' voices is what makes it and it's absolutely gorgeous. A great gothic metal track.
6) Nemesea - Dance in the Fire
This is Nemesea's first single featuring their new front woman, Sanna Mieloo. Bruh. This song is so good! I was very worried about the new singer not being able to compare to Manda, which she doesn't, but she's still an amazing fit for the band and will more than likely be able to give Manda's songs great justice. Well, I don't know about the stuff from their debut album, Mana, but I don't think they've performed any songs from that album in years, so everything should be good. ANYWAYS, definitely give this track a listen.
7) Scenario II - Awake
This song is so good. I just wish the choir bits were turned up a bit higher. Other than that, this track is epic. Of the few tracks I've heard from them, I feel that this track really shows this band's potential and versatility. I was especially thrown off when their female singer unleashed them screams in the bridge leading up to the song's exit.
8) Lighthouse in Darkness - Oceanbliss
I discovered this band while searching on the metal archives to see if Helen Vogt had been featured on anything or was in any new projects since the split of the epic gothic metal band Flowing Tears. When I read their description, the fact they describe their sound as melancholic, cinematic trip-hop, I was immediately intrigued. I then found this track and fell in love. This song is fucking gorgeous. It's so nice to hear Helen's voice, ESPECIALLY her singing as low as she is on this track. I can't wait to hear more from this band, because I'm already hooked!
9) The Great Discord - The Red Rabbit
Guys. This song is so good! I've been so hyped for the new album, and this song is further fueling the hype. It's so interesting, weird and catchy. I'm constantly finding myself singing "hop, hop, hop into the rabbit hole" randomly throughout the day. Also the video is insane and the imagery is slightly creepy, yet so creative and out of the box.
10) Heretoir - The White
I discovered this band through a friend when wanting to find blackgaze bands to listen to. This song is more post metal, but I still absolutely love it. The aggression and beauty of this track are both intense and it's so great to just chill out to.
11) Weeping Silence - Ivy Thorns Upon the Barrow
I decided to listen to this track because I couldn't remember it. So glad I checked it out again. It's so lovely and epic. I love beautiful gothic doom metal tracks like this. And their current front woman has such a strong and beautiful voice.
12) Symphonian - Path of a Soul
I randomly discovered this gothic doom metal band one day while listening to either Weeping Silence or Draconian. So glad I decided to give this song a listen. It's so gorgeous and wonderful. The violins are to die for. Definitely am gonna check out more from these guys.
13) Amederia - Who We Are
This is a gothic doom metal band that I need to hurry up and listen to entirely already. I have loved every track I've heard from them, and this song is no exception. It's so beautiful, haunting and melancholy. The slowness of this song, like the others that I've heard from them, capture so much raw emotion that it can be overwhelming. So good.
14) Lethian Dreams - White Gold
This is an ambient doom metal band that I discovered last year, but haven't gotten around to listening to much of their work yet. This track is so lovely and pretty. Perfect song to chill to. It reminds me a bit of Trees of Eternity, just not as aggressive (which Trees of Eternity aren't even that aggressive).
15) Omnimar - Reason
I discovered this band a few months back and decided to check out another song by them and this is what I decided to listen to. This is such a great EBM/synth pop track. It's so pretty and pleasant. I really want to listen to their new album they've released this year, as well as other bands similar to them.
16) Vuur - Days Go By-London
Bruh. I was excited when Vuur was first announced, and after hearing this track, I can't wait to hear more! It's such a great and aggressive prog track. I must admit, the thing I looked most forward to with this project was that Anneke Van Giersbergen and Marcela Bovio were going to be singing together, so needless to say I was bummed that Marcela left the project. But no matter, I'm still gonna keep up with and jam out to this band.
17) Eivør - Surrender
If you want a haunting ambient/experimental track to chill to, look no further. This track is absolutely gorgeous. The exit is everything. Those notes that she lets out are just so beautiful and haunting. So lovely.
18) Trisha Paytas - Silence
I wasn't expecting much when I decided to listen to this track. Trisha is a good singer, but I thought I would become obsessed with a song of hers like I did with this track. It's so gorgeous. This is the prettiest that I've ever heard her sing and I love it.
19) October Ends - Faith in Me
I discovered this band a while back through Instagram after the lead singer either followed me or liked one of my posts. They're a metalcore band that's rather impressive to me. There's something about them that stands out compared to a lot of metalcore bands, but I can't quite place what it is. Either way, this track is epic.
20) Sirenia - Darkling
I decided to listen to Perils of the Deep Blue after so many years and I immediately got obsessed with this song. It just exudes the vibe that Norwegian gothic/gothic doom metal bands had back in the 90's and early 2000's and the vibe the band had back in those days. Dark and slightly doomy. So good.
21) Lisa Gerrard - Sanvean (live)
I was listening to a song Lisa was featured on by Havasi one day and came across this song and immediately fell in love. Lisa has one of those voices that is completely original and can never be replicated by anyone. She's such a huge vocal inspiration of mine, and this song is just one of the many examples why that is. It shows so much of her range and is so gorgeous. Oh, how I'd love to see and hear her live one day.
That’s it for the fist half of this month. The next half is probably going to be as long or possibly longer than this half. Sorry, not sorry. Hope you guys enjoy these amazing songs!

Last I checked, Lan Ling and Nitocris have the highest ratio of Yes to other choices on the Vibe Check. Goddamn.

Hmm, i should probably clarify the Tiamat Vibe Check poll options:
Yes: Passes the Tiamat Vibe Check with no questions asked.
No: Fails the Tiamat Vibe Check with no questions asked
Yes, but…: They’ve got so many good traits that Tiamat would almost certainly say yes! …As long as you could convince her the one or two major negative traits aren’t a problem, honest!
No, unless…: This servant could never be approved by the vibe check… unless you could convince Tiamat that one or two major positive traits completely redeem the servant in question!
Anyways, all relevant polls and posts will be tagged “Tiamat Vibe Check”
