repeating tics multiple times isn't a sign of faking!
(it's very common in tourettes, especially in tourettic OCD)
someone laughing at their own tics isn't a sign of faking!
(everyone deserves laughter and healthy coping mechanisms)
having tics that reference something related to a conversation or something in the environment isn't a sign of faking!
(its very common in tourettes)
having tics from other content creators isn't a sign of faking!
(its called echolalia, and its very common in tourettes)
having tics that appear 'dramatic' or 'forceful' isn't a sign of faking!
(a clinical feature of complex tics is that they can appear forced even though they are not)
having any sort of stereotyped symptom related to tourettes isn't a sign of faking!
(duhh??)
someone online claiming another person is faking tics... isn't actual proof of faking!
(refer back to above points)
fakeclaiming never has and never will benefit the tics and tourettes community.

Happy Tourette's Awareness Month!!!
This marks the start of the TAM event!
(Details under 'keep reading'. (please read if you want to participate.))
During TAM (May 15th - June 15th) me/my sona and the Tourette's sanses will be answering questions! Ask us about Tourette's/Tic Disorder stuff and/or ourselves. Some questions will be answered with drawings, but not all of them.
If you want to send an ask, but don't know what to ask about, do some research on Tourette's/Tic Disorders! Maybe watch some videos on YouTube. (support Tic Disorder creators during Tourette's month!) And come back, prepared with your new knowledge! :3
The characters available for asks:
Alex (my monstersona)
TTT: Tic (Tourette's sans) Tac (fell Tourette's sans) Tou (swap Tourette's sans)
Crispy crew: Rice (nightmare Tourette's sans) Crack (horror Tourette's sans) Snaps (killer Tourette's sans) Pop (dust Tourette's sans) Marsh (cross Tourette's sans)
Secret third option: Rock (Tac's brother) Paper (Tic's brother) Scissors (Tou's brother)
Rules:
Be respectful!
Don't ask anything shippy about two sanses or papyri!
Please keep questions to 2 per ask! Or if it's for more than 1 character, 1 per ask!
Max of 2 questions a day per person!
Max of 3 characters per question! OR one group. (ex. TTT, Crispy crew, Secret third option.)
(The reason for those last three is that I am busy, and so I don't have a lot of time. And to prevent people from abusing the ask event. Also. I may not get to all of the asks. So please keep that in mind.)
Thank you, and have fun! :3

Fake claiming people who had tics in 2020/21 needs to stop and here's why:
first of all. I'm against fake claiming in general. you have no idea what people's situations or lives look like. you have no right to tell them what medical conditions they do or don't have. but. let's lay out some reasons why you may have seen a lot more people with tics then vs now.
***
- firstly. it was 'trending'. if you were seeking out people with tics to gawk at. you were going to see them.
- talking about tics brings them out. people were making videos and content about their ts/tics, and so naturally, they were ticcing in those videos. that does not mean that they must tic all of the time in order for them to have tics.
- I spent years trying medications, waiting to see a neurologist. getting on different doses, etc. before I found something that works. when I'm on my meds, I usually don't tic hardly at all. that very well could be the case for some of these people as well.
- tic disorders wax and wane. it's a well known part of the disorders. tics can be bad for a while, and then almost non-existent for a while. and then come back. it's normal.
- tics also tend to get worse in times of high stress and anxiety (global pandemic??!)
- tourettes is not the only tic disorder. the options aren't only. tourettes or faker. there is such thing as transient/provisional tic disorder, which is a very real tic disorder that lasts for less than a year. there are also other causes of tics such as fnd.
- it's a well known phenomenon that people's tics sometimes improve in adulthood. it doesn't mean that they were faking before. it just means that they got a lucky break.
***
fake claiming is gross, and this mindset only does harm to the tic disorder community. it's ableist and ignorant to assume someone is faking just because you're uneducated and think that you know more than the person who actually has the disorder.
please try to support the people you know, and the people in your community with tics. it's rough out here for us.

Think I've just about had it with people who ONLY find Tourette's funny.
I'm declaring here and now, yes it absolutely can be funny sometimes.
But I'm also declaring that it is sometimes very NOT funny.
You're just lucky that you haven't seen anything nasty.

Treatments
Tourette’s Awareness Month, May 21 2025
As of writing this, there is no cure for Tourette Syndrome. There aren’t even medications geared directly towards tics. There are, however, a few options. There are ups and downs to each option, and not all options will work for everyone. As this is the informational/medical sector of the month, I will be giving only the medical information and saving my experiences with some of these options for the personal section, if I touch on it at all. No one should form your opinion on treatments apart from yourself and a medical professional, I am neither of those, I am just here to present the information.
Medications:
As previously stated, there are no medications for tourettes directly, but some medications for other conditions have been shown to sometimes reduce tics to more manageable intensity and frequency.
Dopamine inhibitors were the first medicines that had a noticeable decrease in tics. Usually used to treat conditions like schizophrenia, stimulant psychosis, and bi-polar disorder. These aren’t often prescribed unless absolutely necessary, as they have a host of possible negative side effects, such as weight gain and involuntary repetitive movements.
Stimulants, such as those for ADHD have also shown a decrease in some cases, but also have a risk of increasing or exacerbating tics.
Central adrenergic inhibitors are another option. Commonly used for high blood pressure, they have side effect including drowsiness, dizziness, and headaches
Anti-seizure medications are a newer player in the possible treatments for Tourette Syndrome. However, it can cause brain fog, dizziness, fatigue and weakness.
Botox is one I don’t fully understand, but from what I do understand it can relax the muscles involved in the tic to lessen the intensity of some tics.
Indirect Treatments:
Another form of treatment for Tourette Syndrome is by treating underlying issues that may be contributing to the intensity and frequency of tics. This usually relies on treating things like anxiety and depression separately from the Tourette’s, in hopes that reducing possible triggers can lessen the tics.
Therapies:
Some Therapies have been shown to help reduce tics as well, but of course are not guaranteed to work.
Behavioural, or Occupational, therapy focuses on helping people with TS learn to recognize their premonitory urges and redirecting the tic to a less noticeable or less destructive movement.
Psychotherapy, or talk therapy, can help cope with the stress of Tourettes and other conditions, which may help to reduce triggers.
Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) is yet another one I don’t fully understand, and as such don’t feel very comfortable talking about it. There’s very limited information on this, and though it is listed as a therapy, it does involve a surgical procedure.
Once again I want to clarify this is purely for informational purposes and is in no way medical advice. If you want to try medical interventions, please speak about it with your doctor, and preferably with a Neurologist. While I’ve tried to remove any chance of biases from myself, there’s probably still traces of them, so please keep that in mind when processing this information.
Just a reminder that tomorrow will largely be a rest day, but I'll be open for questions or topic requests if I can. When we return, we're moving into the more Personal section of the month.
As always, thank you for reading, and I hope you have a great day!

daily reminder to go fuck yourself if you think tourette's and other tic disorders are just "making funny faces" or "an excuse to curse in public"
tics are painful. i've pinched nerves, displaced joints, bruised myself, almost ran out of oxygen, and generally hurt myself due to tics
tics make it so hard to interact with new people. you basically have to choose between immediately disclosing you have them and having to answer a bunch of questions, not disclosing anything and ticcing freely which will inevitably lead to more questions, or constantly mask your tics which takes up a lot of mental space and doesn't guarantee your freedom from questions.
tics make it hard to maintain relationships. i missed my little sister's birthday party because i had a tic attack that caused me to miss my bus. i've had to cancel hangouts with friends because their stims or mannerisms trigger my tics and i'm having a bad day. group hangouts are hard because ticcing a lot is annoying but concentrating on not ticcing so much makes me miss stuff.
and yes, me having a kissing sound tic is funny when i'm with my friends but then i'm walking behind a woman and make a kissy sound and i know she must be so uncomfortable but i also know i can't just explain my tics to every single person i meet
so, yeah, tic disorders suck, i dunno man

Tbh I need the functional tics=tourrettes ppl to explain this but add credible sources. Like it's not that I don't believe you but it does sound kinda like a strange and empty theory rather than what I'm assuming is apparently supposed to be a fact.
Like I'm trying not to say that your lying, but if ur gonna make those kinds of claims or any claims about medical conditions (esp conditions that ppl don't know Abt or is rare) SHOW ME YOUR SOURCES OR IM GONNA ASSUME UR JUST YAPPING ABT SOMETHING U DONT UNDERSTAND. (Or just lying)

Watched a girl ( with what I'm assuming tics) bang her fist repeatedly on a metal railing and I feel nothing but pain right along with her. She also sniffed a couple times which triggered my sniffing tic.

remind that no matter how 'severe' or 'mild' your tics are, its normal for them to sometimes be worse and other times barely noticeable!
its apart of the tics/tourettes phenomenon called "waxing and waning" and if anything, should make you feel more validated in your diagnosis <3

Happy Tourette's Awareness Day!!! <3
This ofc goes to those who have other Tic Disorders too. This month and day is for all Tic Disorders. <333
If you have tics, treat yourself today! ovo) <3 If not, support someone who does. Whether that be monetarily, or simply through liking and sharing their content, and/or saying something nice to them.
(But please don't give any interaction to videos/posts about people "faking" Tourette's. No fake claiming (ever but especially) on our awareness month!)
#that bit about supporting people with tics is ofc not me asking for those things lmao#i just would love it if people supported more people with tics today#and the rest of TAM#and don't just support me and call it good bc i'm easy!#find people!#there are plenty of lovely tourette's youtubers you could support :3#tourette's awareness day#tourette's awareness month#tourette's#tourette syndrome#tic disorders#tics#today fake claiming videos and posts should be burned around a fire with fun music and dancing#that would be beautiful hehe

Someone came up to me yesterday and asked if I have Tourette's, and then proceeded to explain how they have no filter and that it'd be great to have Tourette's as an excuse for all of the random things they say.
This is a reminder that Tourette's is INVOLUNTARY and is NOT just speaking tics. It is PAINFUL self-injury tics, muscle and joint pain, repetitive strain injury, not being able to cook, not being able to drive, feeling excluded from spaces, being told off something you can't stop, being glared at, and more.
