Right so... been going crazy trying to catch up on the explosion of stuff peeps have been doing since the EPIC: The Musical Ocean Saga release, but. Got some downtime now, and I just wanted to post my reaction to listening to the songs, 'cause it was wild bro.

Fyi, this is all taking place at around 11:30 pm 24th Dec for me, as I'm an australian, so that would make it... uh, 8:30 am 24th Dec for americans I think? Idk, timezones are weird bro. Basically, I listened to the songs and then wrote down my immediate reactions at like 1 am lol.

I was on dicord, right? And then another australian says they're out, and i'm like wait what but there's still like 16 hours till midnight in est, but i look up 'luck runs out jorgre rivera-herrans' on yt (cause it's a unique name) and scroll down and FUCK IT'S THERE!! THE STANDARD AUTO TOPIC VERSION!! IT'S NOT EVEN MIDNIGHT HERE YET?? (23:24 at the time of discovery. The vid says it was uploaded 3 hrs ago already)

The piano. I heard the first notes of piano and ohhhhh shiiiit it's actually happening!!!

i opened the door and called out to mum 'cause i was still in disbelief and she was still awake and i was like "mum... i think it's out" or SOMETHIG LIKE THAT IDK THE EXACT WORDS. She said jokingly she'd thought i had an existential crisis and GIRL IT KINDA FELT LIKE IT?? I WAS NOT PREPARED! I WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE ANOTHER 16 HOURS!

I tapped on the link thingy to the album in the description and then i had the album RIGHT THERE HOLY MOTHER OF JESUS. IT'S STORM. IN THE FLESH. THERE'S A FUCKING TRUMPET-

I did my civic duty and informed (read: screamed in all caps) to everyone in the discord while mum listened to the first song 'cause she said she was interested and asked and i was so excited and gave her my headphones to listen to storm and then I took em back once I was done and now it's time to go dark. I said goodnight to mum and... pressed play.

Here's the highlights:

Storm: mixing is on another level bro. The vocals, the harmonies, the chorus, and hearing all those snippets without breaks in between, actually flowing and making sense and that ending beat is AHHH-

It went so fast. It's three min long how did it go by so fast what-

Luck Runs Out: the piano is godly. They actually changed the melody of the 'you could be caught off guard' part. My first thought after ooo? Was 'damn it no longer sounds like shut up and dance w/ me' lol.

I think this one changed the most from the snippets. Jsut the way they say lines, and stray words. I love it. The harmonies-

KYFC: the intro is that one atmospheric snippet he did with the flutes!! Aeolus sounds so sassy compared to the old snippets oof hell yes! There's a small instrumental interlude between the first chorus and the crew asking about the bag which is new.

THE PENELOPE PART. OH. MY. GOD. I LEGIT TEARED UP, I WAS CRYING, I'M CRYING JUST THINKING ABOUT IT AND TYPING THIS OUT IT WAS SO FUCKING HEARTBREAKING.

Trying to hold them in his arms? Time to be that father he always wanted to be?? His eyes and heart and soul is heavy??? I'm FUCKING CRYING-

Also wow he really just stayed up for 9 days huh? Respect. Also, fuck those crewmates man. Bet they felt real stupid when it got them killed. Oh, wait, fuck it didn't Poseidon killed everyone but them oh hell nah- And Odysseus still goes to save them from Circe?? Bro. BRO. Just let them die. It ain't worth it.

And that's how Jorge introduces the land of the giants? Cool! I was wondering about that.

The chanting, Ody's terrified 'Poseidon...', the electric guitar on Poseidon's verse, the fucking growl in his voice is amazing, the 'Die.' is as;ihfd HELL FUCKING YES!!

I love that the 'Captain-!'s of the drowning men is more apparent here, and the silence afterwards... ooof you can hear Ody's horrified stuttered breaths and the way the lyric's changed to '43 left under your command' is soooo fucking good.

And then Ody's sudden defiance and the fucking burning in his eyes as he defies a god and escapes death- Yes. YES! It's so good-

... No wait it's over?? That's it??? WHYYYYY-

(Side note - the fact that there weren't any ads between vids is incredible and I thank the gods for this blessing.)

Ok, but all seriousness, that was incredible. I- I couldn't stop smiling. My face actually started hurting I was smiling so much. I was shaking the whole time, and I had to keep reminding myself to breathe, and- It was amazing. This was an amazing experience, and I'm so glad I could freak out to mum, and she was excited with me, and it was such a good surprise, like an actual chrismas gift from Jorge or some shit. I love it. I love this. Genuinely. It's an amazing thing he's given us and I thank him, sincerely. Thank you, Jorge, and everyone involved in creating this for people to enjoy and love. You should all be proud.

Back From Break! <3

Guess who's baaaack! Well, technically not back yet, but! I return tomorrow!

Last week’s postmortem is here, and the tierlist is here!

Some shifts from last week's tierlist! - Namely, Serval and Yukong swapped places on a re-read and Huohuo went lower down the list (I am sorry babygirl, I just think I did better on some of these stories than yours...) I also decided to split the difference and put Hook in High B Tier instead of Low A. I also re-read Sampo's story and decided to move him lower in A Tier as well. Turns out looking at this list after 2 days of not thinking about it makes your thoughts a lot clearer!

Taste of Luxury, A Tier - I set out for this to be my redemption for Kafka's ficlet and I think I definitely got it. I introduced a conflict that didn't derail the whole story, and still hung to the idea prompted by the spinner. This was also the first of... Three? Ficlets that were technically posted after midnight EST (my timezone) but hopefully now that I've taken my break, this won't happen as often! (And if it does, it's still nbd because Animal Crossing Rules: If I haven't slept, it's still the same day!)

Something Sweet for Someone... Sweet?, S Tier - Look! I wrote a thing for a blorbo that wasn't heart-crushingly sad! I had a joy of a time writing this one, because the Aventio/Ratiorine dynamic is so fun. And listen, I love the sort of doomed flavor their relationship comes with in canon/canon-sanctioned media, but I really love all the silly fluffy domestic shit that they get put in. The dynamic of Ratio being so proper and Aventurine being a full-tilt peacock vying for his attention is adorable and I could write those two forever, I think, domestic Aventio ftw. (Also, Star, the "apology accepted" tag on this fic made me bust a gut laughing btw--)

Slacking Off, A Tier - Short n' Sweet! I don't feel much for this story outside of "this was quick and silly and it came out nice." I don't think there's much I could have done to push it into S Tier, just because of the concept I had at the start, but there's nothing wrong with a good A Tier story!!!

Cocooned, S Tier - Star said that Blade and Firefly have a father-daughter relationship and my little skunk paws have never let go of the concept. I'm really proud of how I was able to thread the needle between the sort of... terrified silence that follows a moment like the one shown in Wakey-Wakey, as well as the love that persists in the face of moments like those. For my own reasons that I won't get into because they're Big Sad and I don't wanna bring the mood down, this story was really cathartic to write, and I have a newfound appreciation for these two <3

Burning Up and Cooling Down, S Tier - Another apology fic! This one was really silly and fun to write up, and also weirdly full-circle in a way? The thing that got me back into writing and publishing on this blog after a like... Fuck, 3-4 year absence? Was actually a fucking horrific cold that was so bad I actually forced myself to write some cuddling headcanons for an obscure-ish otome game so I was doing something other than just laying in bed and being miserable. And now look where we are! I'm writing dragon boy cuddles!!! Also I was really surprised to have two separate people tell me that they hadn't seen/heard any headcanons about Vidyadhara being cooler to the touch than humans, so I feel. Really smart about that even now lol--

A New Normal, S Tier - This one was FUN as hell to write. I totally could have just hand-waved the blindness angle and taken an omniscient 3rd person perspective but like... I dunno man, this seemed like a great time to test conveying a story without a physical sense in play. It really got me thinking about how, while Jiaoqiu is a Foxian and probably has better hearing and smell than other races in the Xianzhou Fleet, sight still dictates a lot of how he does things. Also I am NOT sorry for that quick gut punch at the end, I saw my chance and I TOOK IT (/lh.)

Demo Version, B Tier - So I did enjoy writing this, but I think narratively it's just kind of okay. I think I got a little too excited to be on my break and also to do something of a shout-out to my sister and her gf. I enjoyed writing the music itself, but I feel like I could have done more with the framing device.

And this is who's left! The end is in sight, babes! What'll probably happen is I'll try to get into Amphoreus over Spring Break and once I finish what's out currently, I'll add Fugue, Aglaea, Mydei, and Tribbie to the list!

Weecest headcanons, coming right up!

1. Most of the shirts Sam owns are hand-me-downs from Dean. Since Sam is small the sleeves practically drown his arms so he has to roll them up to his elbows. Dean secretly thinks it's cute as hell.

2. Speaking of Sam being small, Dean's always been worried about how short Sam is for his age, how fragile he looks. It makes him hella overprotective, much to Sam's annoyance (he appreciates it, but c'mon, he can fight too!).

3. One of Dean's favorite gifts he ever got from Sam (aside from the samulet ofc) is a copy of The Outsiders. It came with a plate of apple pie with a candle stuck in it. It was for his 18th birthday. Sam baked it himself. The edges of the book are well-worn and the pie the best Dean's ever had (though he'll never say it out loud).

4. Speaking of books, Dean swipes a copy of The Lord of the Rings from the library because he knows about Sam's love for fantasy novels. It's one of the few things Sam takes with him when he leaves for Stanford.

5. Dean telling baby Sammy bedtime stories wherein Sam's the "prince" stuck in the tower that's guarded by the evil dragon and Dean is his knight in shining armour who rescues him uwu

6. Sam, who's too young to go on hunts, takes care of Dean's injuries after he gets back from a job.

7. Dean's reputation in school is either as A) The Guy Who Gets All The Girls or B) The Guy Who Won't Shut The Fuck Up About His Baby Brother And WILL Deck You If You Hurt Him. (Why am I even including this one it's lit rally canon.)

8. Dean kisses the amulet for good luck whenever he's on a difficult hunt. It makes John think of his wedding ring, how he takes a second to look at it and think of Mary when he needs strength.

It's really cool that you got into Genshin! How's your experience so far? What characters you have? It might be a little overwhelming in the beginning, but you can do it! Also, I know it's tempting (only two fates but boy that I wanted them, the consequences be damned), but if you don't feel ready for a raise in the world level, it's best if you don't. Or you can do it but immediately lower the level in the menu (but I don't remember in which level they let you do it. You can obit lower once, then you have to wait 24 hours to rise it back)

I think there's going to be a maintenance really soon, so do what you have to do now!

Hey! Yeah, I think the update is today for the summer events? Today or tomorrow, depending on Mihoyo’s timezone I suppose! Can’t say I am super excited since it seems to only be minigames and a new boss (as well as outfits for Baraba, which is cute, and Jean, who I don’t have lol), so eh... yeah uh, cool I guess.

Otherwise my experience is very 50/50. I love the characters and the story but URGH I don’t approve of the grind for your Adventurer Level. Grinding for artifacts and stuff like that is alright, but there isn’t an efficient way to raise your adventure level and it sucks so much. I absolutely could do without it and the overworld mobs simply adjusting to your character levels. It’s totally killing my motivation that some days you just hop on to make your dayly quests, use up all your resin and then log off again having achieved nothing. I finally got to 35 yesterday and partly I was happy to make progress and get new quest but that disappeared real quick too. So yeah, as someone who isn’t interested in getting amazing artefacts because I am not patient enough to understand all the stragetics, there just isn’t more to do anymore and having to work so extra hard on achieving 35 was really exhausting and overwhelming.

I am actually holding back on increasing the world level since I am, simply put, too weak. And you can only lower the level once you get to World Level 5 I think? So that’s gonna take a while lol. I got lucky with my Keqing who carried me up to, I think, AR 29 and then I pulled my Diluc who keeps on dying on me, but they do pretty nice damage together (Overload ftw). I don’t really care about artefacts and weapons, I’d much rather have more to explore and do quests. My current team is Diluc, Keqing, Kaeya, and Barbara, they carried me through everything lol I am still waiting for Rosaria to change with Kaeya and of course Zhongli (which reminds me: I never played a gatcha game that wouldn’t even give a slight chance of receiving characters even after their event times. I don’t even want to imagine how long it will take for me to get a chance on pulling Zhongli if they don’t put him back on the regular banner... That’s also a big minus point for me)

Otherwise, I think it’s a neat game, especially if you play it for free. I just wished they wouldn’t make the Adventure Level so important and yet make it the only thing that you can’t really grind but have to establish for days if you don’t want to use your extra resin since that’s better put in rewards. Also, make Zhongli pull-able again OTL But I finally found a friend who might help me with the last quest on Dragonspine that I am still struggling with so that’s neat! Maybe co-op will bring me some more fun and maybe I can make some more friends for it! I would have more if I didn’t decide to play on the american server but I didn’t realize that when I set it up, yikes

I’d also really like to beat one of the geo bosses someday. That would be THE day, but right now it’s only a dream OTL
