Hello I am back with more Viva Piñata doodles! Turns out if you think enough about fluffy piñatas you can force your way through art block (at least for a while)
Tumblr media
The typical Viva Piñata experience, I love you Pretztail but why are you like this I drew so many Pretztail as a "do over" of my first Viva Piñata drawing from 2018

that's when it all started

reminder to master chef twst jp players that:
the 20 minute ingredient gathering is the most efficient one, but find the one that matches your schedule
focus on getting sugar, eggs and fruits because they're pretty popular ingredients
use low/medium ingredients to raise skill level, only use high quality ingredients when the recipe is above 50%
try focusing on one recipe at a time
when you're done with the event, use up the rest of your ingredients for 100%, then do the recipes with the fewest ingredients
when nothing else can be made, just keep making black dishes to earn what medals you can
i hope these tips help!!

Me: "Yeah I've been a potter for 10 years but I had almost no formal training :/"
Multiple people: "Well that probably means you're an Even Better Potter then right?"

Weird protip for drawing toony style furries.
Study fursuit foam bases. Build one, even if on a miniature scale that you dont plan to wear. They use geometric dhapes in the third dimension to get the same form so if you go at it like you’d building a fursuit in 2d, often times it works surprisingly well.

first time using photoshop! so far here's what I've noticed in how it's different from FireAlpaca
Pro: to be honest. I haven't found one yet
Cons: no easy flip canvas button by the navigator, no easy undo/redo, I have to use my keyboard for shortcuts which is hard when I'm using a tablet. canvas doesn't rotate with touch screen controls unless you also use keyboard. no reference window? (it's not in view where it should be at least). keeps trying to get me to watch tutorial videos after I have already watched them
wtf does the ⚠️ next to the color mean
Tumblr media
this answers nothing
It's also very laggy which could just be my computer but wow is it slow.
This took me 45 minutes to color. I already had the lines I was drawing directly on one I had done in Firealpaca. to be fair a lot of that was spent up looking up how to use the damn thing because it's not user friendly imo
it's not an exact copy but for the sake of comparison, using pretty much the same features (none of my preset Link colors, already using sketch for lines, very messy sketchy style, same basic pressure sensitive pen brush) took me five minutes in Firealpaca
Tumblr media
so far not worth it and FireAlpaca is better (and free)

also is it silly that i have a favorite line from that fic and it’s “Even carries the weapons, as they carry the water.” Because it’s an important line, to me, for understanding the relationship between them. They’re wandering out in a desert, and Even’s the one with both a weapon and the water they need to drink. the fic is from Even’s POV, and the first paragraphs are just about how miserable they are right now, how he’s dragging them around out there for seemingly no reason.
but they’re the one who has the water. they’re the one who has a weapon. on a material level, the master is very much fucked if even does decide to turn on him, shoot him in the back, strand him out there when they have the supplies. so how much of this is trust, and how much of it is arrogance?
i’m sorry. not to be a nerd about my own oc story, but the other side to that is just how aware of how much he’s relying on even is the master? yes, they save his life, that one’s obvious. but there are a few other lines where i was trying to show just how deep this thing between them has started to run. Even ducking under his arm so he can hold onto them, and that eventually culminating in him holding on too long and making them both fall. “They lumber the final stretch to the TARDIS like a three-legged beast.” Even says ‘Talk at me’ but that doesn’t actually work; when they let him ramble out his own train of thought, he ends up making himself worse, and it’s only when Even’s an active participant in the conversation that he really begins to calm down while they work (and why, when he’s rude once they start sharing and they shut him out again, he gets hurt again.) “thinking of you………” that’s not even a version of them that knows him, but the other one he contemplates is missy’s even, and. i think when i’m editing this i’ll give that section another pass because im really trying to imply there that obviously he’s uncomfortable about Missy because she’s a version of himself wrapped in this failed attempt at redemption, at getting the thing she wanted so badly, and he’s fresh off of learning she didn’t actually know what the thing she was chasing really was, either. but also that he’s. jealous. of herself. of missy, who still has even, of the fact that he can’t just go in and take that version of even with him because they wouldn’t let him, they would pick missy over him. man’s so messed up about his mary poppins-sona (among. other things.) that he went and staked a claim on a version of Even that doesn’t know he exists instead.
when i say codependency, i mean we’re doing codependency. the man’s fucked, and he doesn’t even know how badly yet.

I was asked by a friend yesterday if I could offer basic tips about comic paneling. As it turns out, I have a lot to say on the matter! I tried breaking down the art of paneling using the principles of art and design, and I hope it helps you out!
EDIT: uh uh there are a lot of people reblogging this, so i figure i may as well append this now while i can lol
This whole thing was very much cranked out in a few hours so I had a visual to talk about with a friend! If this gives you a base understanding of paneling, that's awesome! Continue to pull in studies from the comics you see and what other artists do well and don't do well! You can tell paneling is doing well when the action is flowing around in its intended reading format.
Here's the link to the globalcomix article from which I pulled the images about panel staggering! Someone sent in a reblog that it wasn't totally clear that the 7th slide mostly covers what NOT to do in regards to staggering, and that is my mistake!
I saw in a tag that someone was surprised I used MamaYuyu too, and I don't blame them lol. If I had given myself more than a couple hours maybe I would have added something else on, I just really admire MamaYuyu's paneling personally.
uh uh, final append: I am by no means a renowned master of paneling, so if you find anything off base here, by all means, counter it with your own knowledge and ways you can build upon from here! Art is always a sum knowledge of everything we find. 💪

Phase: Planning
This is the part where I imagine things will go the way I hope. Since I know plans don’t work out exactly, I’m hoping to lay a good foundation.
Tumblr media
Recap: I’m a forever DM starting a new campaign with a new group and writing about it. :)
While I’m still making some decisions, I have already made some. I’m gonna lay them out here, along with my reasoning.
Number of Sessions
I decided on a 4-8 session campaign; I am writing for 4, but giving this campaign the kind of detail and room to grow for a slightly longer run.
Reasoning
1. A specific session count/range is something I wanna try. I’ve done a lot of one-shots and a lot of open ended campaigns. I have been thinking about the way Dimension 20 structures the show. They have a certain number of episodes. The campaign fits inside of them, yet there is also a bunch of freedom for improv, exploration, and change. There’s a way to have some guardrails, some story rails, and still leave opportunities for big swings and surprises.
2. The starting number, four, is how many I think it will take to tell a short story that gives everyone a chance to shine a little. The upper limit is to keep things on track. I wanna try new stuff (including different systems), tell lots of stories, and give other folks a chance to try DMing for the group if they want.
3. The all mighty scheduling gods don’t always play fair. If we set a schedule with a fixed number of sessions (8), then it’s in people’s calendars.
4. I’m playing with all new people. The group may also be HUGE. It’s looking like it could be 4-7 people. They’re all new friends so this is also a bonding opportunity, which is why I think we need the room for a short set of sessions to grow a little bit to let the players have a chance to explore and go with the flow. Because…
5. I want to give people a chance to get their hands dirty. These are not totally new players, but they’re not long time players. I want them to have a chance to take a few big swings, and that might not happen in four sessions. I want them to get a little comfy, be silly, try stuff, fail upwards, etc.
6. I’m new to this formatting so maybe I’ll need the extra sessions to land the plane.
7. I like to set expectations. I like to let people know, as best i can, what to expect and what the plan is (in general).
