okay I am predisposed to hate Richard because of the youth pastor vibes and I cannot fuck with that even a little. he never stood a chance with me. but after watching 1x09, like. he actually does suck, right, it's not just me? it's fucked up that he took Julia to kill Kira without talking to her about it? he tells her that she will know what to do by doing whatever is hardest, and that's how you get redemption? like.... no? even *if* that were true, you can teach that in a way that's supportive rather than throwing someone into the deep end like that without giving them the chance to think about what they're doing. just because he's testing her for the sake of becoming a better person or whatever and for learning to use magic to "do good"... doesn't make it okay for him to be testing her like that at all...

I'm as much of an Alex person as it gets and want the world for him, but good Lord I have had to block quite a few annoying Alex fans with all the F*rlex discourse over the past year. I'm a simple girl. All I want is a scene with Alex coming home at the end of a stressful day and Michael making him smile anyway. Is that too much to ask??? I cannot believe the potential of Alex coming back to Roswell, again, with Michael quietly waiting for him, again, is wasted on F*rlex.

Oh mood. I adore Alex, and I also want to see him being happy, and all the bright smiles, and seeing him laugh again. I want it so much! But I don't understand why people are so excited to see that happen with Forrest because we know he's not sticking around. We know that. So...you want to see Alex finally happy and smiling only to what? Have that happiness ripped away when it turns out Forrest is a bad guy and has been using him all this time (which is still a betrayal even if they have Forrest have "real feelings"), or if he leaves Alex because he finds out his cousin was murdered and Alex knew all about it and helped keep that secret? Or he decides Alex just isn't enough or can't give him what he needs? Because I certainly don't want that for Alex! And if they go the other route and have Alex break up with Forrest then what? We have to watch Alex with glassy eyes talk about how he's "broken" and can't be what Forrest wants? Because the only other option really is that Alex isn't "finally getting to be happy" with Forrest and the break up is fine and doesn't bother him at all because it was never that important to begin with and then we're back to it just being a waste of time and a tactic to keep Malex apart and all that "oh Alex is finally getting to be happy" stuff doesn't track anymore.

Personally, because the show got stuck with that season 2 ending and c*rina wasn't gone until after she wrote the first episode which means Christian's contract was probably already signed at that point so they had to use him, I'm just hoping that it ends as quickly as possible with minimal damage to Alex, but until it's over I don't want to see the takes that Alex can finally be happy now. Like....you don't have to be dating someone to learn and grow and be happy as a person. And I think that's where a lot of these shows and season 2 of RNM specifically went wrong. Michael should have gotten to be spiraling and messy and single last season while they followed up with the narrative promise of 1x09/1x10 of Alex showing he's tired of walking away and no matter how messy Michael is, he isn't getting called away by the military this time and he isn't running, and building up that foundation of friendship Alex said they were missing. And while we did kind of get that considering every time Michael needed emotional support he went to literally anyone but his gf, and usually to Alex, we also had to suffer through him being a totally different person with a totally different energy when he was around m*ria and watching Alex suffer through propping that relationship up without the writing addressing that this was all a problem, that he was hurting, that he should have had to do that, and on and on and on. I'm Tired(TM) can we just be done with the pointless side relationships now?

(and forgive my indulgence in talking about my current hyperfixation 911, but we got Buck and Eddie both single for all of season 3 and they had SO MUCH growth and learned so much about themselves! It was actually really great and refreshing to see!)

Got back to working on RNM transcripts this weekend. Did 1x08 yesterday and just starting on 1x09. Haven’t looked at RNM stuff much in a little while because I’ve been busy, but it’s always so nice to come back to. It’s just SO GOOD.

Don’t @ me, I know it’s the CW and not Prestige Drama TM lol. But it’s just so delicious and one of the most fun things to watch. I mean these characters, the angst, the romance, the humour, the aliens!! And yeah I’ve got my favs and my ship but I love everyone.

Ohhh maybe this was obvious but I just realized that the things Free Trader Beowulf are trying to do line up directly with stuff going on in the Brakebills storyline: curing depression, curing cancer, turning back time, and bringing someone back from the dead.

This is like... Major Mendings, I guess. And I can't help thinking of it in context of Eliot's line last episode, "Thinking you can change anything is such an act of monumental ego." Very interesting that they think a god will even want to fix their problems (or give them the power), even if they manage to summon one!

Well, we know how that's going to turn out for them. But that doesn't make Eliot right either, I mean trying to fix things does require some ego, but not always in the unrealistic/bad way that he's implying. Quentin was pretty unrealistically egotistical when he tried to cure cancer during his first semester. But he was also wrong when he said they can't fix anything that matters!

It really sucks most of FTB don't get to live long enough to grapple further with any of this, it would have been really interesting to see where they would go next.
