okay I am predisposed to hate Richard because of the youth pastor vibes and I cannot fuck with that even a little. he never stood a chance with me. but after watching 1x09, like. he actually does suck, right, it's not just me? it's fucked up that he took Julia to kill Kira without talking to her about it? he tells her that she will know what to do by doing whatever is hardest, and that's how you get redemption? like.... no? even *if* that were true, you can teach that in a way that's supportive rather than throwing someone into the deep end like that without giving them the chance to think about what they're doing. just because he's testing her for the sake of becoming a better person or whatever and for learning to use magic to "do good"... doesn't make it okay for him to be testing her like that at all...

Ranking Portrayals of Marcus Antonius

Alright I've watched enough rome media to finally start making these lists. Lets begin:

#1: James Purefoy in HBO Rome (2005)

Look at him in his beautiful Alexandria eyeliner. Is this series the most historically accurate portrayal of the late roman republic? Absolutely not, they had the audacity to cut out my good friend Fulvia (and Porcia and the Junias). However James Purefoy without a doubt put 100% of his pussy into this performance. Definitely the most personality out of everyone on this list. He's so funny, we need more fancams/edits of him. But also his decline during the final Egypt arc, so well acted and painful to watch.

#2: James Corrigan in Shakespeare's Julius Caesar (2017)

Not the best screenshot, but you get the idea. I think people talk more about the Cassius performance in this one, but James Corrigan also killed it with Antony. His cry havoc scene was so beautifully performed. Friends, romans, countrymen almost had me switching sides. He also really imbued the right amount of swarmy jock energy into his portrayal, just slightly more restrained than James Purefoy.

#3: Richard Burton in Cleopatra (1963)

Love it when costume designers get the Mark Antony belongs in a miniskirt memo. Honestly, I did not really enjoy his performance until the very end with his post-Actium depression. His regret over not dying an honorable roman death was moving. He was just a little too boring for me in the first two thirds of the film. But the costuming is so fun to look at, though I know less than historically accurate. This was the most expensive movie ever made at the time, and you can definitely tell.

#4: Marlon Brando in Shakespeare's Julius Caesar (1953)

He's serving cunt your honor. Apologies to Mr. Brando and his sweet little lupercalia miniskirt, but someone had to be last. He actually really delivered with the friends, romans, countrymen speech, just not quite as well as James Corrigan. Interestingly, his casting was apparently controversial back in the day. They didn't think he had the range. He totally pulled it off though and looked pretty while doing it.

Practitioners who are unfamiliar with dissociative disorders or to working with DID may prefer to start with texts that are based on their core models or familiar ways of working. Survivors can also expect to come across and be offered a variety of theoretical approaches, summarised below, although none have the monopoly on healing. It is more important that professional help is trauma-informed and based on a collaborative and companionable approach to finding what is best for each individual’s journey.

Attachment-based Psychotherapy – focuses on relationships and bonds between people. It emphasises the developing child’s need to form a healthy emotional bond with at least one primary caregiver for positive social and emotional development.

Ohhh maybe this was obvious but I just realized that the things Free Trader Beowulf are trying to do line up directly with stuff going on in the Brakebills storyline: curing depression, curing cancer, turning back time, and bringing someone back from the dead.

This is like... Major Mendings, I guess. And I can't help thinking of it in context of Eliot's line last episode, "Thinking you can change anything is such an act of monumental ego." Very interesting that they think a god will even want to fix their problems (or give them the power), even if they manage to summon one!

Well, we know how that's going to turn out for them. But that doesn't make Eliot right either, I mean trying to fix things does require some ego, but not always in the unrealistic/bad way that he's implying. Quentin was pretty unrealistically egotistical when he tried to cure cancer during his first semester. But he was also wrong when he said they can't fix anything that matters!

It really sucks most of FTB don't get to live long enough to grapple further with any of this, it would have been really interesting to see where they would go next.
