TMAGP Theory Board (S1 Episode 6)

Hey sorry for the slight delay in posting the weekly theory board because some new characters were added and I ended up drawing character cards for all of them (they will also be included below)

Anyways heres this weeks theory board update

What happened in Episode 6: Introductions?

This week's incident report was wild! I'm guessing we've met our first Protocol Avatar you guys and they are amazing!! I believe that Needles is one of the first emerging avatars in this world and an avatar of the flesh (that could also explain why the flesh has been so prevalent so far in the story maybe because it was able to influence someone into becoming an avatar first and therefore will get a head start in manifesting into the universe.) going off of that I find it super interesting how when Needles calls the emergency operator they don't appear afraid of them this could be just be this specific person is not afraid of needles like he said, but I think it would be cool if that operator is meant to show how this world is new to the powers, so the sense of fear of them has not had a chance to build yet

Ok lets talk about Celia First of all I love her and I really hope nothing terrible happens to her but I'm more interested in the fact she is not new to the TMAG canon. back in The Magnus Archives, Celia was originally a statement giver named Lynne Hammond but she is later introduced back in as one of Georgie and Melanies cult members. after the change Lynne lost her memories and began going by Celia because she couldn't remember her name both Archives Celia and Protocol Celia share the same voice actor (me and my roommate have been checking every new voice to see if they have any connection to the Archives universe after the Chester and Norris having Jon and Martin's voices happened) I started thinking maybe this is just this universe's Celia and not Celia being transported along with Martin and Jon. But if that was the case she would be going by the name Lynne not Celia ( because the change never happened so her memories stayed intact) Nope this is without a doubt Celia from the Archive Universe. This begs the question why is she at the OIAR? she seemed to be a normal citizen not associated with the ceaseless watcher was there something more to Lynne's original statement? I'm guessing she didn't just happen upon the OIAR by accident Her connections to TMA are to strong maybe she's looking for Jon and Martin who she knows would be the most likely to be transported to somewhere else with her. what will be her reaction to hearing Chester and Norris then?! Theres so many questions with this character and I cant wait to find out more about her

Also lastly this was not related to the events of this weeks episode but I updated the Augustus(Jonah) character card and instead of having a silhouette I made a crusty looking Jonah Magnus illustration hope you guy like it as much as I do (even though it is of the crustiest stinkiest man)

i actually forgot how much i like anglerfish. the first time i listened to it, i had no clue what the show really was, and i kept expecting to be scared, since all i'd been told is that it was a spooky podcast. which sucks, because the draw of the show really isn't its scare factor, and going into it with that belief made the first few eps underwhelming.

but on its own, anglerfish is a super fun episode. half because i love the concept, half because jon's such a fun little guy in the introduction. hero's journey denial of the call but he's actually firmly picked up the phone and is just in denial about the fact that somebody's listening on the other end.

You can pardon a clubmaker boasting a little when for 10 years they have made one of the game’s most popular putters and in recent times, consistently week to week the most played single model on the PGA Tour. TaylorMade Golf may have been pushed from the top metal wood sales spot by Callaway and have unfulfilled plans to carve out a bigger chunk of the Pro V1 market share from Titleist with the TP5, but by any standard the Spider putter and its descendants most notably the Spider Tour has been a smashing success.

Bill Price, TMaG’s Senior Director for Product Creation, Putters & Wedges expressed it well, “When we first introduced the original Spider putter in 2008, we never could have anticipated the global phenomenon it has become. With widespread adoption on tours around the world, not only has it become one of the company’s top-selling putters of all time, it has truly shifted the paradigm of putter design toward high-MOI mallets. I’m proud to have played a role in the evolution of Spider and what it has become today.”

The new Spider X follows the basic ideas that made all the Spider models so effective. Extremely high resistance to twisting coupled with a Pure Roll insert face TaylorMade pioneered that gives excellent distance control--the key to making more putts. The weights in the rear have been more integrated to the body with a more streamlined shape. The original weights used in the Spider models were from the R7 driver back in 2006 and now have been replaced with three choices: 2-gram aluminum, 6-gram steel or 12-gram tungsten.

Design of the new Spider X was done in conjunction with the Vision Sports division at Indiana University and augments the single alignment line of the old Spider Tour with a rather bold strip half the width of the ball. According to the research this is the best for an improved path, clearer vision and better perception due to the contrasting white color.

Need to Know:

Extensive testing, more than 12,000 12-foot putts, showed 66% of the time golfers hit the ball so the weight distribution of the Spider X which with the new visual alignment ques got more putts in the center of the face. The Surlyn face insert itself, called Pure Roll, is 2 mm thicker at 5 mm and with the grooves cut deeper to give more “grip” to the ball. Since the face slightly deforms at contact top spin is more readily imparted. The more stable head shape provides more weight on the outside of the frame (36% on both perimeters v. 30%). The CG is deeper center (37 mm) or three times deeper than a traditional blade putter. Head is 5% smaller but with heavier steel frame and a very lightweight composite core of only 15-grams compared with 70-grams in the Spider Tour.

jane prentiss first mention <3 shoutout to squirm for being the first episode to mention any ties between the magnus institute and government agencies, we love to see some casual reference to the fact the institute is actually treated semi-seriously by people in the know. which is very fun for me, personally, because imagining elias rubbing elbows with the government fills me with indescribable glee. love that for him, we love seeing startups prosper.

ANYWAYS squirm rules and i love the corruption so much. i know I said the main draw of tma isnt its scare factor, and that's true, but a creeping unsettled feeling of wrongness is deeply within its wheelhouse, and this one hits for me.

too deep - jon saying that he's not brave, but he is stubborn... how very reminiscent of nathaniel thorp in cheating death (he was bold as brass, yet bold is not the same as brave). something about a soldier boldly challenging death if it means escaping his fear (dying), and jon stubbornly exploring the tunnels, if it means escaping his fear (powerlessness through lack of knowledge)... nathaniel running from his deity, and jon running towards his, and it leaving them both in the same place in the end (bound to it with no hope of escape)

decrypted - i'm coming to accept that i just... really enjoy the concept of extinction. i simply think it's a neat entity! it fills me with dread! this is one of the weaker statements, on account of the obscure "and then i understood the eldritch message" nature of the statement, which is always a difficult sell as far as audience engagement goes imo, and it doesn't really work here. and yet... and yet.

perhaps it's my own dread of extinction talking, but it just kinda hits for me. the idea not just that we're going to die out, but that we're going to leave something worse in our wake. or, the idea that "humanity" may continue, but in such an unnatural, distorted caricature of what we understand humanity to be like, it will be synonymous to the end of life. a world where love and connection is replaced by technology and corporate exploitation and the absence of nature and care and the things that make people people.

absolutely gives me the shivers.
