So I just finished Promising Young Woman.

I loved it.

But probably one of the scariest parts of it is Bo's character of Ryan. I knew it was a bad sign when Ryan showed up to ask her out again after she gave him a fake number. And it was even worse when they just "happened" to come by his apartment.

These are not the scary parts, the scary part is that I liked his character for the majority of the movie. I saw the signs, but he was just so charming, and funny, and sweet, that I couldn't help but like him. And I saw what was coming too. I guessed it, because if Ryan was such a good guy, then why would she be in the nurse get up later in the movie?

When we found out he was there that night, I should've been furious, instead I was just disappointed and sad. When Cassie confronted him, I had hoped that he would show that he felt immense guilt for his actions, but he ended up being like everybody else.

I knew he had to be like everyone else for the movie to take the trajectory it did. But I got to know him, and I wanted to believe in him.

So that's what is truly terrifying about that movie. That I could like a person like that while knowing the outcome. That I could still care about him, just a little bit, after everything, because I'm mourning the person I thought he was.

I don’t know why, but it makes me so frustrated thinking about how the people constantly bringing up how the owl house was cut whenever criticism is levied against the show, are some of those same people who will turn around and act like steven universe being cut wasn’t any good reason as to why the last season’s writing may have been poor

Me yesterday: Aww, Evelyn is such a shy bean! And her sisters are all of different colors and their names are references to different times of day, how clever!

Me today: The Battle Chatelaines are a family torn apart by the death of their parents and the subsequent failure of the Battle Maison as people stop coming by and its seriously weighing on all of them, Morgan is trying so hard to make it an enjoyable experience for their guests by not going all out and instructing her sisters to do the same but in doing so not only is she putting more stress on her sisters but it might actually be making the Battle Maison less popular because it isn't a challenge to those who want one and Morgan doesn't even realize that, Dana seems to know that Morgan is wrong but she feels she can't say so because Morgan terrifies her and as a result she holds herself back so much that she has two Pokémon on her team that aren't fully evolved or holding an Eviolite even though evolving them should be relatively simple, Evelyn has cracked under the pressure and is a complete nervous wreck with no self-esteem and she practically has a panic attack if she wins because it's been drilled into her head so much that she has to lose or people will stop coming by, Nita is the only one who enjoys herself and is confident and she's much more willing to go all out as evidenced by her being the only sister to have both her multi battles be in the super multi battle course but she is constantly chided by her sisters and especially Morgan for the attitude which could very well be the only reason the Maison is seeing any visitors at all anymore, WHY ISN'T ANYBODY TALKING ABOUT THESE CHARACTERS?!

Alright here's what Esmera looks like, I think for these I'll tag everyone who said they wanted to be tagged in my Corruption and it's Depth story. I was playing around with lighting and how I draw lips, so sorry if the shading looks off. Still can't find a design I like for lips, but I don't think these ones turned out bad. Extremely dangerous how "grooming" in the context of child sexual abuse went from being a very specific pattern of isolation and trust-building with the aim of abusing someone to "telling children anything that contradicts their parents' ultra-conservative worldview is grooming" to "selling rainbow flags in a store is grooming" to "literally anyone I don't like is a groomer".

These days the word seems to most often be used by people who don't care about what it actually means and just want an easy "this person is irredeemably evil, kill them now" button.

hmm, i like femme, smaller girls. i like when they are a little mean and kinda spoiled, and i have a very weird fixation with long, acrylic nails but that's not mandatory, it's just a liking.

i think a lot of people (especially those who haven’t read the books) are underestimating Hades

yes, he presents as the sassy queer uncle who’s done with his family’s drama, but he’s not “just some guy”

when his Helm is stolen, no one knows about it. he uses his own resources and orchestrates a plan to bring Percy to the underworld alive, all while managing an entire freaking kingdom

he doesn’t threaten war because he doesn’t have to and he knows it. unlike Zeus, he keeps a level head and thinks about the situation logically

think about Percy’s priorities throughout the show, look at what the flashbacks are teaching us about him and his relationship with others. think logically. this is a 12 year old kid who grew up with a single mom and no friends

his priority is his mom, it’s always been his mom and Hades knows that. Percy’s worst fear is losing his mother and Hades uses that against him

he takes Sally before Poseidon claims Percy because he has eyes everywhere. he already knew who Percy was and he already had a plan formed before Percy even set foot in camp

when he greets Percy and Grover he isn’t surprised, relieved, or agitated because he planned this. he knew that Percy would come to him whether by force or by his own choice (for my book readers, think about this in comparison to how Zeus reacts to the situation. Zeus comes off as desperate and angry, whereas Hades is at ease. annoyed, sure, but never panicked)

when he offers them pomegranate juice it’s in the guise of politeness and humour but it has an underlying meaning. Percy knows the stories about Hades and Hades knows that he knows. the pomegranate juice is a reminder, it’s Hades demonstrating his power without outright threatening Percy. it’s him going “I can make something as small as a pomegranate seed into a weapon” it’s him asserting his dominance and control over the situation

he leads them to a seating area clearly made for their arrival. another reminder that he knew they were coming and Sally stands, frozen in the middle of it as a reminder of what they have to lose

when he learns that it’s Kronos behind the robberies he immediately offers sanctuary to Percy, Grover, and his mom. Kronos, the king of titans, the father of all Gods, and a being who could once tear the world in two with the snap of his fingers, wants Percy, and Hades offers to protect him because he’s that powerful

so yes, Hades makes dad jokes and he talks in a way you wouldn’t expect an all-powerful being to talk, but he isn’t “just some guy”

he’s powerful, he knows it, and he shows just enough of that power to absolutely terrify Percy
