as much as you may have wished in the back of your mind for the air to be heavy, and burdened with the hatred that kazutora’s partner had for you in your mind, a wash of warmth blanketed your heart as kazutora’s keys turned the handle, and opened the door to the shop.

it was quiet— serene almost. the hum of music that filled the air the first time you had visited was gone, leaving only the sound of jingling toys and purring cats behind, and it was something you had only ever imagined in stories. 

among the rush of anxiety that had settled on your mind when kazutora offered to bring you along had clouded your thoughts— chifuyu wouldn’t be there until much later. and so the weight on your shoulders seemed to list when the soft glow of the lights spread across the empty room.

it was just you, and kazutora.

you— a part of his life now— the capacity didn’t much matter. it was a feeling that had never quite resonated with you the way it did now. people seemed to come and go in your life like customers in a store. always there to get what they needed, only to leave soon after, and always like clockwork.

you had grown used to this feeling— the feeling of impermanence and fleeting relationships. friends were always distant, never close, and never vulnerable. and relationships, they were no better, for if you could barely maintain a friendship, how could you maintain anything more?

these were the thoughts that moved through your mind, penetrating the channels like a virus that you couldn’t quite kick. it became a permanent part of your life— a permanent part of the way your mind worked, and yet here was kazutora, breaking down every barrier he could to change that. you found yourself wondering in that moment, trapped under the soft light of the room, if he had meant for this— if he had wanted this from the start. someone as troubled as him— someone that carried as much baggage as he, certainly was there for something you could give him. surely there had to be something, you just didn’t know what. 

as kazutora filtered through small piles of cash in the register, and tended to the tasks he had before him, you couldn’t help but think back on your very first encounters with the boy. you found yourself settling in these thoughts quite often, always trying to analyze the way he moved, or the way he spoke to you about his life. you thought back to the time you had first trapped him in a kiss, giggling at the way his face lit up with heat, and the way he struggled to speak after stealing his breath. were you his last first kiss? were you something more to him than a study partner, or a place to crash when things got complicated in his life? so many things had happened over the course of your friendship— so many things with so few explanations that you struggled to comprehend the meaning, and the role that you played in his life. 

“hey” kazutora cocked his head, peering over at you from across the counter where you stood. even in the dimmest of lights, his eyes twinkled like tiny stars in the sky. 

“hmm?” you refocused your attention to the inquisitive expression that knit his brows with a frown.

“are you okay?” 

such a simple question. so simple, yet you had only ever heard it from him. 

“oh—” you stuttered, smoothing out your half wrinkled clothes and fluffing the sleeves of your cardigan until the sleeves covered your hands. kazutora watched the way your body shrank at the question— the way three simple words seemed to pull you into yourself, and away from him. “yeah!” you continued, denying his piercing gaze. “I’m just tired, that’s all” 

“wanna help me with the cats then?” he offered, desperately hoping in the pit of his chest that his efforts would work. 

when you nodded, and the smile he fell in love with returned to your face, kazutora felt the weight of his worries lift from his shoulder and diffuse in the atmosphere. when you followed close behind him with sparkling eyes as he opened the cage and handed you a cat, stretched out and sleepy, kazutora felt the flood of joy pour from your soul and fill his heart. that was the moment that kazutora knew all he wanted was to see you happy— a genuine sense of happiness, pure, and untouched by anything around you. he wanted to see you giggle and smile when you were around him— uncaring of what people thought of you, and unfocused on everything that surrounded you. he wanted to see you let go, and give in to the pureness of joy, and be at peace with those thoughts— something he never got to experience. something robbed of him from such a young age. 

he watched as you touched your nose to the cat’s, grinning at the way you spoke in soft baby talk and stroked the fur between it’s ears in gentle patterns down it’s spine. he watched you cradle and kiss it’s fur, rocking it back and forth as you swayed in your own little world. kazutora had never seen this side of you before. he had never seen you submit to a moment of vulnerability— a moment where the world around you was gone, and he wanted more. 

“her name is princess” he spoke through a smile— almost proud of what he had created in this moment as he watched you coo back to the cat, repeating its name between kisses. 

“princess” you hummed, poking her paws as she stretched out in your arms. “what a pretty little name girl”

kazutora giggled as you cooed as if she were a baby, sitting down on the floor beside you as he leaned forward on his elbows. you were too enthralled with the way the cat nudged against your arm to notice the smile on kazutora’s lips, and the itching desire he held behind his lips to kiss you.

“cute right?” he mumbled, feeling his face flush pink as he inched closer to your face until he was sure you knew his intentions.

you were vulnerable— left with your guard down for once and kazutora had taken the opportunity to get close to you again. his fingers brushed the sides of your face. he moved like an expert, but the butterflies that rattled against his ribs said otherwise and he found himself having to swallow a knot in his throat before he could get any closer. but you were smarter than that— you giggled at the nerves that so obviously showed right through his skin. he could act as tough as he wanted, but he couldn’t hide the blush on his cheeks, or the way his fingers trembled the more he touched your skin. 

“tora” you whispered, drawing his face closer and closer to yours, until your lips hovered against his. 

kazutora had no words now— only the shiver of his body as your fingers brushed behind his ear, pulling him flush against your lips in a gentle kiss that let his shoulders relax into your touch. his lips were soft— they moved slow against yours, bringing tiny tendrils of electricity between you as you smiled into the kiss and giggled. 

“what?” he asked, looking away with shyness in his eyes. 

“nothin” you huffed, planting another kiss on his lips between words. “you’re just funny is all”

kazutora frowned, letting his hair fall back in front of his eyes as you brought your focus back to the cat and away from your moment of weakness. 

“princess.” you hummed, stroking her silky fur as she purred. “who gave you such a pretty name, huh?” you cooed, pursing your lips at the cat as kazutora sat back on his hands. 

“chi—” he started, only silencing himself as the sound of footsteps behind him filled the room. 

“I did” chifuyu hummed, setting a set of keys down on the counter. 

his voice nearly ripped your heart from your chest as you whipped your head around to follow where his voice had come from. he had seemingly appeared from thin air— his feet were so quiet, or were you just too distracted to follow the world around you?

“when did you get here?” kazutora asked, scrambling to tidy the space around him in some effort to look like he hadn’t just been standing there admiring you. 

“just a minute ago— I came through the back” he muttered, putting his things away under the desk and hanging up his jacket. 

the room felt heavy again— whether it was his presence, or the burden that returned to your shoulders, you weren’t sure. you could tell chifuyu was frustrated— he wanted to be civil, but you could feel the tension in his body cut through the air like a knife. 

“I got the shop today, fuyu” kazutora smiled, trying his very best to soften the air. “it’s your day off, remember?”

chifuyu shrugged, leaning over the counter as he watched you hesitantly return the cat back to her cage. kazutora sighed as frustration returned to his thoughts. he knew what had happened— chifuyu could tell by the way kazutora’s face seemed to glow with a certain happiness he had never seen. perhaps that was the root of his issues— the root of his jealousy and disarray with your presence. he wanted so desperately to be what you so easily became to kazutora, but it was a wish he would never be granted, and it was all your fault. 

“tora” he motioned towards the counter, and kazutora swiftly got up and scampered over to the corner where chifuyu had trapped him. you tried your best not to listen, but prying ears couldn’t help but strain to hear what was being said. 

“is this going to be a distraction” chifuyu muttered, trying his best to be silent as he glanced over to where you had sat playing with the cat. 

“no” kazutora shook his head, eyes wide with desperation as his tone seemed to beg for chifuyu to understand. “no I—” he paused, shaking his head again as if to clear his thoughts. “I just needed some help today that’s all and she had nothing to do”

“what about last night?” he crossed his arms, looking kazutora up and down with a sense of judgement that wasn’t quite obvious, but wasn’t easy to pass by, either. 

“I—” kazutora stuttered, struggling to wrap his mind around everything that had happened the night before. 

if he told chifuyu what happened— if he told him what he said, what you said— staying at your house— he would be left forced to accept the reality of his life again. he would be left to suffer with his thoughts, and left to contemplate your every response. it opened up worlds for him to lose himself in— worlds driven by questions, and inquisitions on chifuyu’s behalf. 

kazutora knew that his best friend only had his heart in mind. that his best friend only wanted to see him thrive, and live a normal life. but if that were the case, why was he so persistent about keeping you away from him? why did his mood turn sour at any mention of your name? it never used to be like this— not until kazutora began to settle into himself— not until he became more confident in you, and the feelings you so clearly had for him, too. what did chifuyu have to oppose? was this not what he wanted for his best friend?

“it was nothing— promise. we got… caught up doing work for our project, and it was too late to go back, so I crashed on the couch” 

chifuyu raised his eyebrow with doubt, but who was he to prod any further?

“does she work here now?” he asked, nodding his head to where you sat on the floor, replacing bowls of food and water with fresh ones, in an attempt to look like anything aside from a hindrance. 

“no but—” 

“well the very least you can do, is train her right. even if she doesn’t work here”

kazutora cocked his head. did those words really just come out of his mouth? did he really allude to the fact that your presence wasn’t necessarily unwelcome in his shop anymore? kazutora was sure he was in for it, and the release of chifuyu’s tension made kazutora’s shoulders drop as he let out a sigh of relief.

Mikey clings tightly to you when he sleeps and cuddles. 1. because he gets cold quickly in his sleep and 2. because there are moments, when he hates himself so much that he thinks you'll leave him if he doesn't. He thinks that you would leave and that he will end up alone.

Draken sends you several messages throughout the day in which he either reminds you to eat, drink and sleep enough or that he loves and values you above all else. Most of the time the messages aren't really long, but it's enough to make you smile every time.

Mitsuya also makes you a bento every morning when he makes one for himself and his sisters, just to put it on your table before the main break. He thinks it's so cute how your eyes sparkle when you find your favourite food, but doesn't have the courage to look at your adorable expression for more than two seconds.

Chifuyu is extremely worried when you don't come to school, even if you just have to go to an appointment or something like that. He always thinks that you're lying in bed at home, terminally ill, and that you're feeling terrible. Sometimes he skips school to look after you straight away and if he doesn't, he goes to see you as soon as possible after school.

Baji can't handle seeing you cry. He just can't. Every time you start crying, he feels like something inside him is breaking. The thought that he might be the one making you so unhappy spreads through him extremely quickly the moment he sees the first tear. However, when they tell him that someone else has made you cry, he comforts you first and then disappears as quickly as he can. I think we all know why the mean person somehow stops coming to class from then on.

Takemichi cried during your first kiss. He cries quite often for different things, but it just made him cry with joy. How close you were to him, how soft your lips felt on his and how perfectly you fit in his arms. How could he not start crying?

Angry loves the way you smell. Of course he likes your perfume, but your natural body odour smells a thousand times better to him. He's far too shy to do it in public, but when you're alone he likes to put his head in the crook of your neck because that's where your body smell is strongest. He would kill for it

Smiley, unlike his brother, is not at all afraid of showing affection in public. Whenever he can, he literally sticks to you. Hakkai talks quietly in his sleep. He usually talks about trivial things or tells you about his day. It may sound confusing, but after practising a few times you understand what he is mumbling to himself. The first time you noticed it was when you spent the night at his place and you went to bed, but he suddenly started talking in a drunken stupor. He is such a shy soul and usually he is the one who listens while you talk and he loves to listen to you, but in his sleep he always starts talking non-stop. How ironic…

Kazutora keeps writing you letters. He got into the habit when he was in juvenile jail. He sent you countless letters and you answered him as quickly as you could. You gave him therapy from afar and he was able to tell you about all his worries and problems. You made plans for the time when he got out again. That was one of the few things that kept him alive.

Koko can't help but take you to every one of his business dinners and show you off excessively. He buys you the most expensive dresses and simply takes you with him as his mental support. He has one arm around your waist the whole time as if you were a trophy.

Inupi can't fall asleep without you. He makes sure he spends every night close to you and therefore always comes home on time. When you're not by his side, he feels so lonely, almost empty. As if every happy memory around him has completely disappeared.

Hanma cannot stand arguing with you. It feels like he's pushing away the only person he's ever loved and who has ever loved him for who he is. He was never loved by anyone for who he was and so he just couldn't bear to see you go. Although he teases you all the time, he deliberately avoids arguments with you so as not to give you a reason to turn your back on him.

Ok so like, baby boten headcanons on who affects the baby and how based off of @reallyromealone ‘s work cause it’s amazing:

Mikey: How to be intimidating, strong, confident and a leader

Kakucho: how to have a fucking heart and care

Koko: obviously how to maintain and make money

Ran: how to be look the best and weapons use with medium to long weapons from a baton to bo staff

Rindou: How to be relevant and stay in tune with trends and the like, hand to hand combat which includes his famous bone breaking techniques

Mochi: how to manage stuff, be neutral, calm and an ok person even in bad situations and is teaches the child the broad spectrum of fighting and how to be safe. Basically manages training over all so he does everything else that is not specifically taught by someone and fills in some gaps even for the specialists. Also teaches the child how to be safe and what to do when kidnapped and shit

Sanzu: ahhh the crack head, teaches the child how to find scammers and traitors, how to treat them, how to use swords and the like ofc which do include knifes. How to torture people, drugs ofc don't know what exactly but maybe what type each is, how they affect a person and the plants surrounding them (thinking about it now he actually may have a garden for drugs and weed). How to act cause his acting do be on point, loyalty, how to have fun (though his is kinda wack but he tries)

This is all I could think of on the spot. Ofc they don't stick to this as they all do it as a group and teach them together but this is what they specialize in and do the best at.

Tr characters and their duel decks

* Baji does warrior type monsters, he doesn’t have effect monsters and only has spell cards that that do healing or gives his monsters strength as he can’t remember all the effects of the cards and it would take him too long to remember

* Mitsuya has a deck like Sora from Arc-V because he doesn’t want to scare his little sisters with scary cards but wants to demolish his enemies

* Takemichi mains water type cards because he cries a lot so he’s a water affinity

* Kazutora helped Baji at first for his cards but he sucks at the game so both he and Baji lost often and Baji destroyed a shit ton of cars for it

* Chifuyu helped fix the deck and now he actually wins

* Kazutora learned how to play properly in jail 💀

* Hina got into Yugioh due to Michi and so Kisaki got into it too

* Hanma wanting to annoy and be chill with Kisaki started playing too

* Naoto is also into it he has an occult deck based on his phase at the time

* They play it in their free time even when they get older as Kisaki sees it as a fun way for his child self to have actual fun but also strategize and be smart

* Toman got into it because Emma found it fun, was playing it, got Draken to play so now Mikey ofc wants to play but both Emma and Draken says he’s too dumb to play it so he’s def playing it now

* And then Mikey passes it on to everyone else and so eventually the main people were see in the gang plays it

* And probably some background characters

* Only a few actually watched the anime

* Those people are Chifuyu (obviously), Mitsuya for his sisters, Draken (for Emma), Emma (for Draken), Mikey cause both parties he hangs out often with watches it, Takemichi, Hinata, Kisaki (for Hina is what he says), Baji though not often for Chifuyu because he can’t fucking read

* Chifuyu, Kisaki and the twins are the only ones that read the manga

* The twins favorite card is Gemini Elf (an actual staple in my Links Deck) cause their twins like them

* Honestly other than that one card and some spells/traps the twins decks are very different

* Smiley has monsters with more attack points and have more pyro and warrior type monsters

* Angry has monsters that have very high defense and usually tribute or special summons for higher attack monsters, he mains a lot of magician and spell type monsters

* Kisaki’s deck changes often depending on what’s the best set of cards at the moment

* Despite the constant changes his deck is usually an effect deck that uses a lot of special summoning

* Kisaki is actually the best player out of the Toman cast cause he actually really is into the game

* Supports Seto Kaiba in everything other than him ripping the fourth Blue Eyes White Dragon because WHY WOULD YOU DESTROY THE RAREST OPPORTUNITY FOR EVERYTHING?

* I just really believe that Kisaki is a kid that like Mikey, put too much on his shoulders and changed himself into a horrible being

* Hina has a deck like Yuzu Boyle

* Emma has one like Carly from 5Ds

* Mikey has a fighter deck with some special effect monsters to raise attacks

* Draken has a pure effect deck that includes monsters special summoning, gaining cards, raising attack, defense and as much effects as he can put in

* Chifuyu has a deck with effect monsters that have effects that increase attacks but the monsters don’t really come from the same group (spell casters, warriors, water type, etc.) but they work fine together anyways

* Mucho doesn’t have a deck, he thinks it’s too childish and cringey

* Sanzu has a deck full of monsters who fights with swords, katanas, axes and also wands strangely

* Hanma just put a bunch of strong cards in without much care and he’s only winning most of his duels by pure luck

* Senju plays too!

* She’s actually enamored by the anime and manga

* She has a deck full of female or gender neutral monsters just to fuck men

* She heard the Blue Eyes White Dragon is a fucking female dragon? Into the deck it goes

* Mai Valentine is her favorite character

* Hakkai has a spellcaster deck

* Yuzuha has a light monster deck

* Taiju believes the game is the work of the devil and doesn’t approve but who tf cares about what he says or thinks?

* He owns a gang and wants to get on these kids asses for a card game? Stfu

* As they get older they don’t stop playing the card game and they use it as bonding to remember the good old days (this is in a reality where everyone lives and such)

* Because of that they eventually force Mucho to start playing and he has a warrior deck

* The manga readers know of season 0 and freaks the rest of the gang out with images scenes or descriptions of what happens and gives no context so the gang is actually scare

* Anyways, they really like card games and it’s a good relaxer/break from all the gang shits they’re in
