TOL Rewatch Week One

Just rewatched episode one with beloved mutual @magicaldreamfox1 and AAAAAAAA this show really does so many things to me

I have like a million and one thoughts but two main ones-

I am still so fucking pissed about Khai being made into a genuine asshole for drama reasons in the show instead of just being a dumb slut (affectionate) who thought his feelings for Third were Extra Special Friendship Feelings as if all friends dream about building a life with their bestie and get anxiety over the idea of said bestie not being by their side always.... yeah Khai is so much gayer in the novel y'all don't understand I will never shut up about this particular change. Never ever. HE SHOULD'VE BEEN A SIMP FROM THE GET GO. I get that the drama was important to fill up eps but like they did Khai a grave injustice by erasing so many of the scenes that showed his good side, his scared side, his confused side, his deeply in love with Third side. I will never forgive them for making the show Third biased when the story is supposed to be about Khai's journey.

What would've happened if Two had never intervened. Like I've already written a fic about Third giving up on Khai after overhearing him in That Scene but even then he'd at least tried and like his crush had been acknowledged by people other than him. But what if Two had never found him that night he decided to give up. What if neither Two nor Bone had tried to intervene during that time and Third had pulled away from Khai???? WHY AM I MAKING MYSELF SAD THEY'RE MY FAVOURITE SHIP But like imagine KhaiThird having a friendship break-up imagine Khai losing his fucking mind bc Third was his everything and he just didn't realise it until he'd already lost him imagine them remeeting a few years after they've graduated and Khai desperately trying to get back in Third's good books and Third being his meanest self trying to hide how much he still loves Khai AAAAAAAAA someone write the fic pls i am on my knees begging

Other notable thoughts I had while watching the episode

We should talk more about the fact that Khai went and got his ass beat defending Milk's honour AFTER he found out she was messing with him. Like he just did that huh. And he had no reason to think it would help him get her back or anything he just did it bc he felt like it. My poor lil meow meow my favourite puppy boy I love him.

Khai's not nearly as Straight in ep1 as he'd like to believe. To quote Dreamy, why are you as a man "riding" "charles". He's a bottom. I said what I said.

THE WAY KHAI SAYS LOVE YOU TO THIRD STILL KILLS ME APPARENTLY

Third is the og bl exploiter girlboss. He was capitalising on his sexuality and close male friendships before it was cool.

Two and Bone BOTH knew Third liked Khai in ep1. Two definitely noticed Third in the scene where they wrap up filming, tho he's obviously been eyeing him a while. And Bone absolutely Knew when Third walked away while they were teasing Khai about Milk. He literally frowned at Third walking off and then turned pensively to Khai. Maybe this is when he decided to confront Khai about Third's crush?

Fake Protagonist is still undefeated as best bl ost I said what I said.

Two and Bone are the best friends ever. This friend group is perfection like no other BL has executed a friend group this well, where everyone gets appropriate screentime and no one exists just for comic relief or to further the plot, they all have their story arcs, their own motivations and flaws and endearments, and they don't go off on their own after the show ends. And they ALL actually get along well. Not Me could've had this if the writers weren't Black antis.

It will be so fucking hard to watch one episode of tol per week literally itching to go watch more as I type AAAAAAAAA

Hello! I'm here because your posts about colors altered my brain chemistry and now I can't watch anything without, like, being aware of them?? I mean, I guess I just kind of notice some stuff, I definitely can't analyze them the way you do and I'm not even sure how you always notice all of those patterns 😂 ANYWAY, what I actually wanted to ask is: Triage colors. I just finished rewatching it and now I need the colors. Pretty please 🙏🏻 How much of that blue can I actually trust? (Maybe it's because the search tag sucks on mobile but I couldn't find anything on your blog.)

I did not watch it weekly because I knew it was going to stress me out. The entire premise of one of the leads dying each episode seemed like a solid foundation for my blood pressure to rise each week which would cause my heart great distress, so I binged it right before the finale.

Then I was in my feels and refused to write about it. Like the petty person I am.

But I also didn't write about colors in the show because I wasn't sure if what I was seeing as an American was true of the Thai medical system since the purpose of triage in America is to prioritize patients' care based on resources and needs with the help of a color system and . . .

in America, "Code Blue" is used for a person who has gone into cardiac arrest.

Sound familiar?

As in, that was a major theme of the show?

A person having a heart attack?

In a show that was about heartless people finding their heart?

So I thought it was super fascinating how the colors were used in the series, from an American perspective, since the emergency room uniforms were blue (as they would be),

and blue on the triage scale would be needing close observations to monitor the situation.

But also how the other triage colors showed up. Like black is expected death.

Green is stable but still wounded and will need care.

And red is immediate care needed.

But above all else, the blue just really stood out to me because it was constant.

So at first, I thought Tin was a Blue Boy who needed to take care of his wounded.

But then I realized that the colors didn't actually show up on Tin outside of his hospital uniform until he started to care about Tol.

Because when they were kids, the blue was there.

Yet they both became jaded as they grew up and lost the love that colors life, so even though Tol only had his school uniform for most of the show, he still lacked color too.

Well, until they began caring again.

Then the blue came back.

Tin cared first because he had to go through the loop countless times to save Tol.

So even when Tin wasn't aware of the loops, his blue still showed up since it was guiding Tol.

And eventually, Tol got there too.

And once he realized it, he couldn't go back.

Because blue = 💙and both boys needed to take care of each other's. It wasn't just about finding love; it was about taking care of someone else's heart. Tin lost his sister and it broke his heart. Tol's heart would have killed him. Without the other person, neither would have survived.

But the other person saved them, literally, multiple times, and figuratively through love, which is why they both ended up in blue.

However, I'm looking at this Thai show through an American medical lens, so . . . the blue between Tol and Tin could mean nothing.

Sometimes, the curtains heart is just blue.

July 2022 Wk 2 

Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs. Organized by which ones (in each category) I’m enjoying the most.

Ongoing Series - Thai

Triage (grey) Ep 12 - Tol’s turn to fix the timeline - well he can’t do any worse, right? I found this episode a little frustrating, but I still think this is one of the better high concept Thai BL‘s I’ve seen in a long time. I’m reminded a little of Great mMen Academy for some reason (much as I question if GMA is a BL). I’m excited to see howTriage ends, but also glad next one is the final ep. Where Triage falls down, for me, like Manner of Death, is going to be in rewatchability. I think once the element of surprise is removed, there isn’t enough romance holding this show together to make me want to rewatch it. But I think the story is a lot better for having not been that romantic. It’s just I happen to be a romantic at heart. 

Love Mechanics (Sun WeTV) Ep 4-5 - ep 4: of course the cheating gf is hurt in a car accident with her rich boyfriend#2 and Vee rushes back to her and then makes eye contact with Mark who he is hurting even more. Because why not MORW PAIN? This whole series is basically a diatribe against cheating and the one honest gay reaps all the punishment. And yet I CAN’T STOP WATCHING. Stupid genius YinWar. Also I do love Poppy turning up, he’s got to be one of my favorite character actors in the BL universe, right up there with Gunsmile. Watching Vee lose everything was cathartic, his family, friends, and Marke are too good for him. He is a lovable asshole tho. I am both delighted and terrified that we have 6 more episodes of this nonsense.  Ep 5, why are these cheaters so cute? Because it is YinWar, that’s why.  Also I love it when Mark gets his own back against Vee, even if it’s just teasing and standing up for himself. Don’t ask, I didn’t get the bit with Vee’s dad either. Lots of good brother characters this summer in BL. Meanwhile  Yawhe is figuring everything out.

 Vice Versa (Sat on YouTube) Ep 1 - The meet cute was awkward and I don’t love that. Jimmy (Puen) is lovely, of course. The lead (Lay) is okay, I haven’t fully warmed to him. (Hooray for a butch character! Even if they had to use body swap to explain them. Notice mostly no polite particles?) I like the concept of this show. You know me, I’m big into paranormal and magical realism and skewed reality. I’m engaged with that if nothing else. And then Nanon waltzes in holding a goddamn guitar and I’m mad at the whole universe.

Unforgotten Night (Weds on GaGa) Ep 4 - I am beginning to think we should be calling this show Forgotten Kink rather than Unforgotten Night. Actually, this week was fine, we got a bit more of the side couple, whom I am now officially calling P’Daddy and Baby Boy. Also I may a UFO pun joke. Go me. TRASH WATCH IS HERE! 

Sky in Your Heart (Fri YouTube) Ep 7 - How is this show now boring, corny, AND cheesy? Also I’m starting to get bad secondhand embarrassment. And then... the white sponge bath, of course.

Even Sun (Wed iQIYI) Ep 3 - They are pretty, it pretty, that’s it. I’m so bored.

Check Out (Sat IQIYI) Ep 6 - World’s most boring date? Mostly I was just confused by the random English letters on Daonuea’s shirt and wondering if I could get one like it with Thai script (since it’s so pretty). In other news, should I start a vomit trigger warning for BL shows? Why do people throw up so much? We don’t have to SEE it, ya know? 

My Secret Love (Sat YouTube Sat) Ep 7 - Interesting that they call GL yuri in Thailand. That’s it. That’s all I got. 

War of Y has semi started or something? Whatever. 

Oh My Sunshine Night (?) - Ep 1 I managed the first ep without subs but it seems really really sad. I am nto sure I am in the right mind set for this one so I think I will wait until 1. I know if it ends happily, and 2. It’s easier to get internationally. 

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

Minato Shouji Coin Laundry (Japan Weds GaGa) Ep 3 - currently my favorite show by a land slide. I like everything about it, the questionable content and relationship, the age gap, the characters, Shin’s obsessive staler edgy intensity, the side boy with the terrible hair. The food. ALL OF IT. Minato’s feelings for his sensei are an interesting parallel to Shin‘s feelings for Minato - and explain both why Minato is sympathetic to Shin and dismissive of him at the same time. When Minato admits to his feelings for his high school teacher, Shin final understands Minato’s reluctance, or thinks he does. I feel Minato deeply, he’s sunshine honesty and core integrity does not allow him to outright lie to Shin that he isn’t attracted, which goes up against his ethical scruples around their age gap. There’s an interesting dialogue going on within this show around how seriously to take teenage love and first true desire (simultaneously the most intense of our lives and the most scary for the adults around us) and how it’s belittled by society as a result. I should note at this juncture that the age of consent in Japan is 13, the lowest of any developed country. However, most prefectures also have local "corruption of minors" or "obscenity statutes" (淫行条例) which raise that AoC to 16-18, unless they are in a "sincere romantic relationship" (usually determined by parental consent). Are we going to meet Shin’s parents and large family under this context? I’d really like it if we did. Japan may be reserved in its romances but it usually attacks social criticism and difficult content head on (unlike Korea), so I wouldn’t be surprised if we got this topic grappled with directly. See Japan’s approach to noona romances. 

Want to See You (Vietnam YT) Ep 6-7-8 - Far be it for me to say this with our prince of VBL but I don’t think that these leads have any chemistry. Sad, that’s usually not one of Vietnam’s issues. The brother character remains my favorite and a best boy and the only reason I’m still watching this show.

Senpai, Danjite Koidewa! (Japan Fri Viki) Ep 4 - We are halfway through this one, and I’m still not sure if I like it. It’s just too cringe. Also they keep reusing a lot of footage.

Gameboys 2 movie - didn’t drop for me in the USA on gaga.

Love in Spring AKA Spring of Crush (Korea grey) Ep 15-16 - A suitably tragic ending (including an Untamed call back) for all the bad characters and some of the good ones. I liked the psychopath second lead best - apparently my second lead syndrome extends to COMPLETELY INSANE. In the end, this drama was all over the place with uneven acting, narrative, and focus (sometimes it wanted to be a slapstick comedy, sometimes a depressing drama) which meant no one, actors or viewers, took anyone or anything seriously.... AND it’s a bromance. I was left wondering is SalHyung is now code for “they were roommates” in Kdrama historicals but otherwise largely apathetic and unimpressed. Korea, we now know you can do better. Watch Tinted With You or Nobleman Ryu’s Wedding instead: 3/10 not recommended, I don’t know what I’m watching, and neither does it. Full review here. 

Gossip

Japan to adapt yaoi Takara Kun To Amagi Kun as Takara-kun and Amagi-kun. Oriyama Nao and Sato Arata will star, and rumors of the leads from My Love Mix-up putting in a cameo. 8 epes. About a popular guy and an outcast boy who secretly like each other, and soon after start dating in secret. Premieres August 18 no word on distribution yet. 

Japan to produce The 8.2 Second Rule AKA 8.2 Byo no Hosoku about a boy finding his first love. 

Korea’s Kidari Studio to adapt Happy Merry Ending about two men who work with wedding events, grumpy/sunshine pairing. 

Blueming is getting a season 2. This is one of my favorites from this year (9/10). I am not thrilled about this decision. It’s the same director as TMS2, and I didn’t like that one all that much. Still, I’ll probubly watch it. I’m very intersted in where Korea goes when it’s given enough rope to hang itself with.

i'm rewatching tol for the fifth time i think, and i've never felt the need to know how watching it while it aired would have felt more than now. like i watched yesterday episode 6 and the ending is so WOW, i was thinking JUST IMAGINE WATCHING THIS FOR THE FIRST TIME AFTER WEEKS OF SUFFERING. Did you watched it while it was airing??

bestie... I watched ep 6 yesterday too & fucking screamed, like??? are we connected or what??! but yes, I definitely watched theory of love while it was airing & it was THE BEST! it's also at that time that I started making gifs with photoshop, so frankly let's give tol all the credit for what my blog has become <3 but yeah, theory of love was INCREDIBLE to watch live as it aired tbh, like I never fucking knew what to expect, and even when I had been warned by off on jennie's show challenge that there would be a change of point of view halfway through the show, I was still FLABBERGASTED by the end of ep 6, and then the second half of the show just got fucking better as each ep went by. khai admitting that he likes third, the accident, their first kiss, that singing girlie kissing khai in front of third, the train station scene, the beach ep, the confession in the theater... I HELD MY HEART FOR EACH & EVERY ONE OF THESE MOMENTS!!! and then bc there was a week between each ep, I just rewatched them over & over again until the next one. and at the time there weren't as many shows so this??? was the only show going on all summer, like all the eyes of the fandom were on it!!! like, summer 2019 IS theory of love for me, and it will always be!!! truly the most vivid fandom experience I had until not me, I'll always remember it fondly <3

Motherland: Fort Salem. Musical analysis for Raelle and Scylla

It is no secret (unless you did not know that the Original Score for MFS exists and if you didn’t, it does and you should go listen immediately) that there is a track named Raelle & Scylla on the score. If you didn’t know that, then this is more interesting. More below the cut - in case you don’t care or don’t want to be spoiled.

The track “Raelle & Scylla” is the music that plays when Raelle and Scylla take Salva for the first time in the Pilot.

In the majority of the Raelle and Scylla scenes that follow (typically ones that are Scylla emotionally conveying a message) this musical theme always plays. It is not exactly the same as the first time, but very clearly the same notes are played.

We hear it in Episode 2, when they are walking in the graveyard

Episode 3 in Memorial Hall, when Scylla tells Raelle about her parents (for real)

Twice in Episode 4. First after Raelle leaves the infirmary and Scylla is relieved she is okay.

That’s this season SO FAR. But there���s more:

While everyone has probably guessed that next week during Salva training Raelle is going to be filled with grief over Scylla being missing, we can confirm this by turning to the Original Score. The track “Missing Salva” starts with this same thematic music, so for sure we will hear this theme at least once in Episode 6 and it will represent the heartbreak Raelle is feeling from Scylla [potentially] having been “killed”. When I first listened to the score after episode 1, this gave me chills that they so seamlessly conveyed this message with music.

Also in the score (MAJOR SPOILER) is a track called Scylla Revealed. While we probably all guessed this would happen eventually and the majority of this track is the sound of the Spree, the last few seconds are… Raelle & Scylla’s musical theme. Again, I got actual chills when I first heard this 4 weeks ago, knowing nothing about what was going to happen. Because of this, I’m guessing Raelle will witness either Scylla revealing herself with fire or her carrying out some sort of Spree order (I would love the former) as opposed to being told by Tally or Anacostia. 

I’m so excited about the depth of this show and the little details they put in. I’m going to keep track of every scene where I hear this theme and I’m guessing it will reveal some foreshadowing in hindsight after the end of the season.

EDIT:  An update following Episode 6, Up is Down

As predicted we were gifted with the beauty of “Missing Salva” this episode but this was not the only time we heard Raelle and Scylla’s Musical theme this week. In fact, we heard it three times - what appears to be a record for number of appearances in an episode.

The first time we hear it is during Salva training on base. This is actually the original Raelle & Scylla track from the original score but slightly more raw towards the beginning

*Sings* So you think you can flyyyyy

The second is extremely subtle but the theme plays when Scylla contacts Raelle, interlaced with music that conveys hope

The only time giving your S.O. a rash is sexy and appreciated

And finally, the third time is our “Missing Salva” track. Beautiful, heartbreaking, chill giving. But also; drugs are never the answer, kids. Remember, you are important, you are beautiful, don’t push away the ones who love you. They will be your wings to help you soar.

EDIT:  An update following Episode 7, Mother Mycelium

Is everyone okay after this episode? I’m pretty sure I’m still dead (no captions for these, they all caused to much pain). Another beautiful and heart breaking week - let’s go over our theme moments. This week brought us the next big track containing the theme: Scylla Revealed. Like last week, we get to hear the Theme three times even though our girls are apart; further solidifying their connection.

The first time the tune graces our ears is when Raelle is looking up at Scylla��s room. Everywhere she looks she sees (and hears) Scylla. This version is slow and depressing and makes it seem like Raelle is really starting to believe Scylla might actually be dead.

The second is during their reunion in the dungeon when Raelle finally says, “I love you”

And the third, as expected, comprised the ending of Scylla Revealed

Seeing Raelle made Scylla’s mind vulnerable and cracked her open (like an egg). All Scylla can think about now is Raelle, even after she has just been forced to reveal her most terrible secrets about herself. This pain we see here is not that Scylla’s mind betrayed the Spree, it’s that she lost Raelle in the process.

This is the last score track that contains Raylla’s theme. Perhaps we will hear Scylla Revealed again when Raelle discovers the truth? But I can guarantee this isn’t the last time we’ll hear our tune.

EDIT - An update following Episode 8, Citydrop

Raelle is reeling after discovering both that Scylla is alive but also may be a member of the Spree and it shows in their music this episode. After rewatching, I only detected their theme once, and barely. When Raelle is remembering their reunion, the theme is ever so subtly hinted at. In fact, I would argue it doesn’t even get the chance to be fully realized. 

I really think this is the only time we even remotely hear it in this episode. And even here it is not obvious at all, and I think is indicating the emergence of Raelle’s doubts about how much she truly knows about Scylla. We know by the end of the episode Raelle is really beginning to question what is real and what isn’t. But we will definitely get it again in Episode 9 as more truths and feelings are revealed.

EDIT:  An update following Episode 9, Coup

The pain is real this episode and we hear Raelle and Scylla’s theme three times, though technically two of these three are in the same scene. Specifically, when Raelle goes to see Scylla one last time in the dungeon, their theme book-ends their reunion but in two different tones.

At first, it is soft but laced with sadness. Reflecting the pain of Raelle and the sadness of Scylla for realizing Raelle may be lost to her.

But at the end, it becomes harsher and more dissonant as Scylla pleads for Raelle to know her love is real. That she chose her over everything else. They are both raw, just like their music. 

And the third time is by their tree, when Raelle admits that she is still in love with Scylla. Here is it deeper and resonates. And it lifts up just as Anacostia tells Raelle Scylla’s love is real. Just a bit at the end but just like in the first scene when their feet leave the ground after taking Salva. It’s laced with hope and Anacostia’s words fill Raelle’s heart with hope.

EDIT:  An update following Episode 10, Witchbomb 

HOLY. SHIT. Well that was an epic finale. So much happened. With Raelle and the unit being immediately deployed, and Scylla still in the Dungeon, there was no time for goodbyes for our Necro and Healer. To be honest, I was really nervous that Raelle & Scylla’s theme was completely absent from the finale. But our faith can be renewed because Raylla’s theme does indeed make a small appearance making it 10/10 episode wise this season. 

Now when Raelle pleads with Anacostia to have the military go easy on Scylla,  that she’s not all bad - I listened to that scene so many times, side by side with others and I can’t confidently say that the Raylla theme was used in any capacity. That being said, I also can’t say that it isn’t there in the bare minimum. I’m pretty sure most of the music in the scene with Anacostia, Raelle, and Tally is more closely related to the Blue Rose Friendship theme but it is possible the Raylla theme is interlaced ever so slightly while Raelle is talking to Anacostia about Scylla... but I’m not calling it completely due to lack of confidence. 

Where I am more confident in the appearance of the theme is when Anacostia sets Scylla free and tells her to hold on to the part of her that’s good. The music is bare bones minimal and only during this exact moment. It’s just the core notes that drive the theme home but they are stripped and bare and it makes complete sense because Scylla has lost so much, perhaps even lost Raelle, but what she does have left is the goodness that Raelle instilled in her. And she still has her love for Raelle. 

So Raelle and Scylla may be in limbo relationship wise, but the love is real and the part of Scylla that’s good is Raelle. otp: No matter what happens.

1. Gay Ok Bangkok

I love this show so much I could honestly go on about it forever but I’ll keep it simple and short. I don’t even think this is technically considered a BL but this is one of my favorite dramas and in my opinion very underrated so I’m going to include it. Jojo who directed 3 Will Be Free and Friend Zone directed it and I’m pretty sure Aof aka everyone’s favorite director also worked on it so you know it’s good quality. It’s about the daily lives of a diverse group of gay men living in Bangkok and is probably one of the most realistic shows I’ve ever watched. Not to mention that a good portion of the cast themselves are also not straight and they deserve to be supported. It’ll probably never happen but I’m still hoping for a 3rd season. I need Nat and Arm to be end game so bad.

2. Until We Meet Again

Where do I start with UWMA? I still haven’t accept the fact that it’s over. It was such a soft and sweet show with an amazing cast and crew. OhmFluke have so much chemistry and are so cute with each other. I know a lot of people complained about it being boring and slow but I could have literally watched an hour each week of DeanPharm eating and cuddling with each other and been completely satisfied with it. The final episode made me cry and Fluke deserves all the awards for his performance.

3. History 3: MODC

This show got off to a rough start but quickly became one of my favorite shows ever. It’s also one of those shows I could go on and on about. It was so sweet and made me laugh so much. I love good friendship dynamics in my media and MODC had a great example of it. The friend group were the cutest, silliest, most supportive group of people. Hao Ting and Xi Gu had such an amazing relationship by the end and the characters had some of the best character growth I’ve seen in a while. It’s just a shame that it didn’t have a full 10 episodes like Trapped though.

4. He’s Coming to Me

HCTM was one of my most anticipated shows of 2019 and it didn’t let me down. It’s such a shame that GMM didn’t promote it properly because it deserves to be way more popular than it is.  I appreciate the fact that the main plot of the show wasn’t just about romance. I love a good mystery and HCTM delivered on that end. Singto and Ohm are some of the best actors in the industry in my opinion and if you don’t think so before watching HCTM then you definitely will after.

5. Theory of Love

TOL was such a fun show.  I loved all the romance movie references they made in it. We all know Gun is a great actor but Off really stepped up his game here. He did a wonderful job playing Khai. I only skimmed through Honey Puppy and didn’t really care for it so it was great seeing the two of them in a show together again. Theory of Love is also one of the only dramas I’ve ever succeeded in getting my sister to watch so you know that means it’s good.

6. Sotus

I almost never talk about Sotus but this show has a special place in my heart. It was the first Thai show I watched not including the random clips of Hormones I used to find on youtube. I can’t believe it’s already been four years since it’s aired. For being one of the early BLs it’s definitely one of the better ones. It has such a nice, sweet plot and doesn’t include a lot of the questionable elements a lot of BLs have. Not to mention it introduced me to the one and only Singto Prachaya.

7. Great Men Academy

Not going to lie, I put off watching this when it was airing because I was not into the plot at all. But after hearing all the praise it got I decided to check it out and I don’t regret a single thing. It’s such a good show! The plot may sound wacky but they manage to make it work. The cast is a major plus as well. James is one of my favorite actors and it was the first show I got to see JJ act in.

8. History 2: Crossing the Line

I don’t often do complete rewatches shows but I did with this one so you know that means it’s good. I also am not one to watch a lot of sports themed shows so the fact that I watched it not once but twice is another sign of how good it is. Fandy and Zach do such a good job and have so much chemistry with each other. It’s a very sweet and simple show. I hope we hear news of the movie soon.

9. History 3: Trapped

I’m a sucker for anything gangster themed so I knew I would be into it. Despite some plot holes due to choppy editing and a slightly unsatisfactory ending, it’s still a very good show. It’s a fun, action packed good time. It’s also very well acted. I was so upset when it ended I sobbed almost the entire last episode.

10. The Untamed

Although this is one of my favorite dramas I’m also not technically sure if this is considered a BL which is why I have it in honorable mentions. I got into MDZS right when season 1 of the donghua had finished airing so I couldn’t wait for this to air. I waited a until a few weeks into airing to really start watching so that I could binge it and managed to catch up for the last couple episodes. I honestly don’t have words to express how much I loved this show. Is it perfect? No but it’s still very well done and you can tell a lot of love and effort went into it. The acting? Excellent. OST? Superb. Chemistry? Off the charts. Also another show that made me sob. I think I cried through at least 2/3 of the episodes.

Having random Theory of Love thoughts today so of course I came here! I’ve always wondered why it’s not more popular/beloved by fandom when it is objectively one of the highest quality bls out there. I think it’s because it’s so angsty and most bl fans prefer fluffier romances. I also think the writing maybe pushed Khai’s behavior pre-redemption a little further than a lot of the audience could handle - I loved Khai and even I thought they didn’t have to go quite that far. What do you think?

so firstly, theory of love was in fact a HUGE success at the time, winning "most hearted content of the year" at the linetv awards. that being said, I do think the main reason it's not as beloved today is mostly due to the fact that bl has become such a consumeristic fandom. as I said in my last not me video, bl shows are now consumed faster than a mcdonalds order & forgotten right after, and it's sadly the case for theory of love for the general audience. of course, some people couldn't handle khai's behavior which I can maybe understand, though personally (and I wasn't even an off stan when I started tol so I really wasn't biased), I felt like khai was portrayed as such a cute and hilarious character that I was never mad at him during the show lol. and also, yeah, the show IS very different from other bl shows by being much angstier, so I understand that it's not a show you can rewatch many times bc it is A LOT. but personally, if we still look at the numbers on the special episode that was released more than a year after the first season, it was still hugely successful so I still think theory of love is a very beloved series. it's just that, with new bl shows coming out every week now, it's easy to get lost in the sea of content & not really give theory of love the light of day. though I personally think theory of love is the best bl romcom ever made bc it's firstly an homage to romcoms in such a great way, but also had a lot of layers & really focused on character development and friendship. and it will forever be one of the most special shows for me. I've said it before, if I had to choose 5 thai shows to be sent on a deserted island with for the rest of my days, it'd be: I told sunset about you, project s: sos, not me, theory of love & 3 will be free <3

!!! TOL Rewatch !!!

Since a bunch of people said they were interested I'm officially starting a TOL rewatch!

Now I've never done one of these before so don't expect a lot from me pls I'm just here to watch the show with other people and make a bunch of posts needlessly analysing everything.

It's pretty basic, we watch the show one episode a week, same as one would if they were watching it live, with Week One being next week and posting days being Friday (so posting day for ep1 would be 10th February). yeah honestly it really was, it kinda was a terrible week for me even though I got to spend quality time with my loved ones bc between not me ending & beam papangkorn passing away... I just cried non stop tbh :'( I'm starting to get better & I'm not feeling too down bc I'm one day late on safe house so I'll still catch up with day 7 today, but yeah... the content drought is deffo hurting already :((( I hope offgun fun night season 3 gets announced soon bc it's not a want but a NEED!!! honestly the only solution as of now is to rewatch not me & tol over and over again until our pain has lessened, idk... I'm as lost as you ;_;
