[Review Album] Harry Styles – Self Titled

Mungkin review album ini memang sedikit agak terlambat, but why not? Meski dirilis tanggal 12 Mei kemarin, tapi sampai saat ini aku masih betah dengerin album ini track by track.

Sebenarnya album ini sudah ku dengarkan tepat ketika perilisan di Spotify. Namun saat pertama kali denger single nya yang Sign of the Times, honestly I’m not really attached to that song. Epik sih lagunya, apalagi didukung video klip yang aesthetic dan niat banget ngelayang-layang di atas laut gitu. Namun trigger yang bikin aku ingin denger album ini secara keseluruhan adalah ketika hari untuk pertama kalinya nyanyi secara live lagu di salah satu albumnya yaitu Ever Since New York yang dari intronya pun aku telah jatuh cinta, love at first hearing. Meski Harry ngerilis Sweet Creature sebagai promo, namun aku tak begitu suka ketika mendengarnya secara individual, tapi ketika mendengarnya di keseluruhan album baru sadar Sweet Creature is the sweet song tho.

Namun, ketertarikanku untuk mendengarkan album ini tercipta ketika salah satu sahabatku sejak SD, ketika aku pulang kampung (derita anak rantau) nanya, “eh nir, punya album barunya Harry Styles gak?”. Tanpa basa-basi aku kirim full albumnya dan salah satu sahabatku yang lain yang ada disana juga bilang dia udah denger dan suka, dia bilang albumnya jadul jadul gitu. Sahabatku yang satu itu memang suka one direction sejak SMP, sejak Harry masih sering nyanyiin “Baby you light up my worlds like nobody else~” dan punya selera musik yang oke dan kalo ngomong musik emang nyambung sama dia. Dan akhirnya, karena dua orang tersebut sudah memberi “dorongan” untuk segera menyimak album tersebut.

Setiap ada album baru yang emang pengen aku dengerin, akan selalu aku dengarkan di 1/3 malam. Pasang earphone sambil liat langit-langit kamar atau kalo lagi dirumah sih biasanya duduk di balkon sambil stargazing, tapi saat itu aku dengerin album ini di asrama kampus. Lagu pertama di album tersebut adalah Meet Me In The Hallway, lagu yang atmosferik dan mengantui. Oke, dari track pertama seperti intro yang ngasih tau kamu kalo lagu lagu di album ini bakal punya atmosfer jadul, seperti track selanjutnya yaitu Sign of The Times. Carolina, lagu yang semangat dan ngingetin aku sama film film retro semacam The Breakfast Club, entahlah ketika dengerin lagu itu tiba tiba pikiran ngelayang ke film itu aja. Two Ghost, gak bisa nejelasin banyak tapi lagu ini selalu putar kalo lagi di damri, di jalan tol, tipe lagu yang cocok didengerin ketika lagi diperjalanan. Sweet Creature udah aku dengerin sebelum album ini rilis. Only Angel, aku suka banget part solo guitarnya, so retro and oldskool. Kiwi, punya atmosfer semangat kayak track sebelumnya. And then Ever Since New York, I really like that song ever since it play for the first time. Selanjutnya woman dan track penutup From The Dining Table yang sangat cocok untuk lullaby. Lirik yang paling ku suka di track penutup itu “Even my phone misses your call by the way”.

Finally, album ini adalah satu satunya album rilisan baru yang aku dengar dan aku suka di tahun 2017. Entahlah, belum ada full album yang dapat mencuri hatiku selain album ini. Tapi untuk selanjutnya who knows. Album ini highly recommended buat kamu yang hipster, suka album retro oldskool dan oldsoul.
