This is when Aragorn lost my respect!
The dead dudes in the cave had problematic histories and problematic beliefs. Yet Aragorn ignored that in order to focus on the goal of defeating Sauron.
A true hero would not have compromised his morals. Aragorn should have flipped the problematic ghosts the finger and just let Sauron take over.
The affects this would have on his friends and family, the environment, and himself aren't important. At least Aragorn would be able to say "Hey I didn't vote for either of them!" when Sauron scorched the earth and enslaved everyone.
Accepting help from the problematic ghosts to defeat Sauron would be like voting for an imperfect candidate like Kamala Harris to defeat Trump.

Being a lifelong fan of fantasy will lead very naturally to you having random out of the blue thoughts like “I bet orcs would make really fuckin good barbecue and I’m kinda sad that I’ll never get to have orc barbecue.”
And most people will look at you like you’re crazy and go “Umm, you know orcs aren’t REAL, right?”
But some of them will GET it and will be like “Yeah, I feel the same about halfling breakfast food” and you need to HANG ONTO those people because they’re the ones who will play with you unashamedly, which is a rarer skill than people seem to think it is, and which will feed your soul at all times.

I'm so happy right know I could cry.
A long time ago I lost every bit of hope to get back to drawing. Everything I started felt wrong.
I had a break from drawing for over 10 years. And before that I was struggling to get better and I was not happy :(
I see all the amazing art out there and I never used social media before,so I just looked and maybe liked something and then I stumbled over @thelien-art blog.
Who does this super cool challenge where you can draw a pic of her own in your style!!
And she is so nice to all of the artists who do that challenge despite them not being the best or having perfect styles.
So I thought I could do that challenge. And I did.
And she reacted to it! Kind and so wholesome.
And I had a new goal. To do my art and hope that I get some positive reaction, some chatting and to make someone happy with it.
I don't get so many views or hearts or reblogs and I don't think even 1 of my post has reached a 100 whatever. More important was for me
To find mutuals who are happy when I post something.
I don't need many I just wanted some who like me and my stuff.
And I found them. I want to give a special shout out to @erendur @serene-faerie @dfwbwfbbwfbwf @starshadeemilyart and of course @tar-thelien.
I would have stopped drawing like I always do but you guys headcanons, fun comments and interactions make me keep going !
And the Tolkien fandom especially the Silmarillion fandom is so freaking kind. I love being part of this community ❤️

Got a driving lesson this morning. Dreading it, literally gut wrenching anxiety. I hate this so much. I'm so SICK of doubting myself.
So, I'll try to be my own Samwise today...encouraging and enthusiastic self talk, and carrying myself with strength and determination!

i really really don't want this to be some sort of petty rant account (i've done too much already, i'm still repenting), but i have this little pet peeve that i'm just dying to vent about
so, you might've seen this picture before!
Tumblr media
a watercolour sketch made by tolkien himself
usually said to be how sauron is 'supposed' to look (and occasionally accompanied with a comment about it looking bad or tolkien 'not being an artist' which is mean :/)
but it's always missing the context!!
for one thing, this really shouldn't be seen as "what sauron looks like" this is that bit at the very end where sauron is killed and he takes the form of a giant shadow for a moment before disappearing we don't really know what sauron looked like in his normal form (just big and scary basically), but it wouldn't be this!
also, this is basically just a doodle! like, that's why there's another arm randomly placed below it! it's just him testing out an idea, not a finished piece or anything like that
in fact, he was testing out this idea so he could do a better final copy later!
Tumblr media
this was tolkien's concept for the cover of ROTK and at the top right, you can see a MUCH better version of the spooky sauron shadow there were definitely things tolkien struggled with drawing (people mostly, and perspective/scale are usually pretty wonky) but i think this picture of sauron is actually pretty effectively sinister! he doesn't get enough credit as an artist, he had a really charming style and i really love a lot of his pieces
unfortunately they couldn't include sauron on the finished cover because it wouldn't have printed legibly (it is already kinda hard to see just in the concept) honestly too bad, i do think the rest of the cover is kinda. mmm. i have never been able to figure out what those two feathery things on the sides are supposed to be
so yeah, to sum up: that watercolour sketch really isn't "what sauron really looked like" or anything like that, AND there's a much cooler version of that picture out there anyway

Me: I probably shouldn't put fandom things on my IG, with contacts I've known forever who will think I'm quite strange. I could lose followers and have weird interactions.
Me like 6 months later, putting up fandom content fairly regularly: gained a good # of followers and having a grand old time
I love being a nerd. I'm getting to a place where that's all that has to matter. That is all.

The last chapter of echoes of mairon made me cry and laugh and howl Idk how to feel honestly Hope why you do me like that??? Mairon telling Ëonwë he won't cause him anymore grief?? Elrond being completely chill about morgoth taking his bride cause he hung out with sauron once for like 2 weeks and knows what a psycho he is and that he'd never let celebrian go to him lmao this story is a gift. Everyone's so in character and yet so expansive and it just urghhh
thank you friend, i'm genuinely moved you feel this way about my silly story :)
In terms of opposing views, in a world where everyone says this is black and this is white, Elrond is the only one who says it's grey. You get a sense of safety from Tolkien, you know where everyone stands, there are no secret deals and double-agents, evil is evil and good is good, that's why many people gravitate toward it. There is simplicity in the safety of this story - and because life is so fucking complicated and difficult, we WANT a story that we don't need to figure out. That's just there and it's a safe haven and a home.
When you're writing a story full of headstrong characters like Galadriel or her daughter, who stand firmly on one side and expanding those views is asking a little too much, you look at the ensemble and upon not particularly close inspection, you realize that Elrond is probably one of the few if not the only one who does not separate Sauron and Mairon but rather sees them as a whole. There's this guy who has been sort of redeemed - and it's true, he has learned to care about something more than his rings of power - but is it fair to say his nature has disappeared? His nature of perfectionism and deceit - are those rendered obsolete in the face of love?
Love by nature does not erase, merely expands or navigates. So now, that perfectionism and deceit is channeled toward a better future - protecting the family and the realm.
So while everyone is freaking out - oh no, we're gonna lose, this is a terrible idea - Elrond feels like the best person to go: You guys. It's Sauron. He has a plan. Chill.
Hope that makes sense?

Making Aragorn's cloth cloak (bad choice or lucky coincidence) -WIP
Today there will be a non-standard format – we usually don’t show our work problems, so perhaps an outside observer may get the impression that we successfully and easily select all the materials for projects the first time, but…Let’s talk about replacing the main fabric for Aragorn’s green cloth cloak.A small spoiler – we already ordered new fabric, and even received it) But it had to be…
